I have a few stories like that too!

My son was about 15 and I got a call from the school that he had cut a class and had not shown up. Off I went in the car. I got there and they had found him in the gym playing basketball instead of going to class. I checked him out and under the part where it say reason, I put "parental discipline." Then I took him home and dusted his bottom good. He never did it again.

My husband's ex wife decided to cause me some trouble and so she turned me into the Department of Human Resources (which monitors child abuse). A woman showed up on my door step and told me she would need to interview me and monitor my children's home life for 6 months because it had been reported that I wasn't sending my children to school and furthermore, I never fed them and they were starving to death. I told her to get her back side off my porch or I would drop kick her to the curb and not to EVER come back onto my property. That if someone had made a complaint that I hadn't sent my kids to school, she needed to go to the school to check and while she is there, she can ask if they buy their breakfast and lunch there every day. I never saw her again!

People are jerks sometimes.

I didn't have to spank my children much. Being a Drill Sgt. for so long, when they got unruly, I herded them outside and marched their silly selves till they almost couldn't walk. Then I would make them come home and clean their rooms. After that, it was a long time in between incidents because that kind of work out stays with you! LOL

True Mary! And Starlasue I am with you on the time out thing. Yep go ahead put them in time out, send them to their you where they have Video Games, A T.V, a Computer ya get the idea.
When I used to put my son in his room(he is 22 now-still remembers)I flipped the breaker to his room where there was NO power so he couldn't "sneak" to turn on the stuff. No Fair! HaHa. One step ahead of him!
My stepson(whose 21) came home for a visit the last time he said "Hey Pat, Do you remember when we were in about the 5th grade and I called Alex(my son) a Bad name on the school bus? Remember I hid outside the house. When I tried to sneak in and around the front door you were waiting behind it, grabbed my mouth and squashed it open and shove Dishwashing Liquid in my mouth you put on a rag and made me go to my room. I couldn't wash it out. When I came out of my room I told you I was sorry and you said,Don't tell me go tell Alex; you really hurt him. So I went and told alex.
I said and what did that do? He said I never called him a name on the bus again.
Point is 11 years later he still remembers that!
As for my dog more behaved than the kids today. You better believe it. For the most part they listen 100x better. Gotta love them

Nowadays, kids aren't allowed to get their bottoms dusted. In most states you can get into big trouble doing that. It is a shame really. I don't advocate hitting a child violently. But sometimes a well placed swat on the bottom gets their attention in a way words and time out do not. Just my opinion.

The new parenting style of allowing the child to do everything they want drives me nuts. A 3-year old having a temper tantrum does not have the cognitive skills to make decisions. What they need is direct consequence.

And the time out thing! ARGHH Sometimes my granddaughter takes 10 minutes to go to time out!!!!! She knows if she breaks one of
Grandma's rules that she will be picked up and PUT in the timeout chair. No exceptions. Spit out milk - she cleans it up and the rest gets poured down the sink. Keep running into the dog with your baby stroller, the stroller gets put away. Tired and cranky? Go down for a nap - yes even if she doesn't want to - she needs quiet time. It isn't rocket science. But why do the new parents think everything needs to be the child's choice? I am not talking about squashing their psyches for pity sakes, just give them boundaries so they can grow and learn safely. Eva certainly loves Grandma and funny, she seems quite happy to stay within my rules.

Last time she was here she got cranky, I told her she needed quiet time. I asked her if she'd like me to rock her in the big chair. She did and promptly fell asleep for an hour. Fortunately she is not overy heavy and the chair has big squishy arms so that took most of the weight. Her mom was so surprised - "She almost never does that." HMMMMM - coudl it be she knew Grandma might put her to bed if she didn't? HMMMM

THUMP - off my soapbax. Sorry - it is a pet peeve of mine. All my friends have young grandkids and we are seeing the same trends in parenting.

Bright Blessings

HAHA! Deb, not only are Poodles better behaved than human kids, they have better manners and they obey much much better!

some kids I see out in public need to be taken outside, have their bottoms dusted and they would straighten right up, but those kids are the bosses at their house!

That stinking little April! she is the same way when I get the brush out. I will hide it behind my back, but it doesn't fool her. I will say, come here let Mommy hold you! She will run as fast as she can to Matt's office and jump right in his lap!!!! When I finally can get her, she jumps around like a jack rabbit you would think I am killing her!

Ain't that the truth! lol. All three of mine are that way! Right now Raider is still needing his medicine for his ears and every night I'll call him over to me. He'll go directly to my husband and just sit there and he will actually REFUSE to come to me. Travis has to literally pick him up and hand him to me so I can put the drops in his ears! It is so funny. The other night one of mine actually laid a turd in the middle of our bedroom...I'm using a walker and it was dark and thank the Lord I didn't run over it. They NEVER poop in the house, so I don't know what was up with that? Anyway, when I got a light turned on and saw it, I asked them all..."okay, who did this?" and Snickers of course looked guilty right off the bat and had her little tail drooping, I mean I knew which one it was! Is that not funny? She got scolded, then all was good. They are just the most wonderful animals and my life would not be as full without them!

Thank You Starlasue for coming up with this idea! It's so great!
I to include Chloe in on all my card signing. People have come to expect it. When you look in their beautiful eye it does seem they are speaking right to you. Although alot of times I would swear she is saying "Bite Me' when I tell her not to do something.
You gotta Love Em!

My sentiments exactly. But, you know Kel., even if we may need to help with the typing some, those poodle &/or doodle eyes definitely do talk to us & tell us what to say. One Christmas when BooBoo was just a pup he told me that he wanted to sign the cards to. And ever since then up to this day, he also signs 9/10 of all the greeting cards I send out.

I ditto all that has been said. Thank you Sue and Maggie for the brilliant idea of poodles sharing their thoughts. They are such incredible animals with such bright eyes and intelligence that it doesn't take too much imagination to realize they can type and talk to us! lol I love reading about all their activitis and what they can get into and what they think about their humans...what fun!

Well, thak you. But really, Shilo can take credit. When she was alive she loved to sign cards and send emails. I know people thought it was me writing but hey, she was a smart pup. Then she taught Miss Ginny our Shih-Poo. And then when Maggie came along and I told her about how the other girls used to write she was afraid she wouldn't do as well.

But wow she found out she was addicted to it. So she asked me to let her on the PC and I said ok. She has never looked back. I was thinking - "no one will answer this post". But Maggie said "Oh ye of little faith." She wagged her tail and hit Submit. The rest is history.

Thanks so much Maggie, you are a smart pup and I love getting to know all of your poodle pals (mixes too!) and their humnas. Indeed it is one of my favorite threads of all time. Everyone here and their pups are so wonderful! Hugs and Kisses from Maggie and me.

PS - Would you belive Maggie is wanting to write a book. OH NO! lol
