My mom has had both hips replaced, separate times, and they got her up immediately. She had the one done at 75 and the other at 81. She also stayed in a senior home until able to come back to her own house. We live 3 hours away and to fare to drive for all the pt. It was lots of hard work, but best thing she ever did. At 84 she had a shoulder replacement. That was the tough one to recover from. With each year getting older we found mental recovery was slower and she has always been a go getter. So, hang in there, keep informed with the doctor and don't let her get out of doing the physical therapy, it is really important.
Anyway that is our experience.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Pat

As of about 3 days ago, Mom "turned the corner, has kicked her wheelchair out the door, & is now using a walker.

Deb, please talk with her orthapedic surgeon...she should be improving more and more daily and if she's not, there's an issue! At least that's my take. I'd certainly talk to him/her if it was my mom!!!

No, Kelly,

She has only 1 major health problem, hypertension. She has phsoriatic arthritis to, but @ 79, that' no surprise. It has been 3 weeks & 1 day since the surgery, & she still can' walk more than about 15 or 20 steps & that's with the help of 3 people. One on either side & one following with a wheelchair. When not in p.t. she is wheelchair bound!

Deb, wow, that's rough. Having had two surgeries close together myself, I understand how traumatic that can be on a body, especially for an elderly person. Does she have any other health issues, such as Diabetes, Hypertension, Heart problems, etc? I will lift her up in prayer. Sometimes older individuals just take a little longer to heal, especially with other health issues. Hopefully she will be ok soon. God Bless!

My elderly mother had both of her hips done. It is amazing how good her hips are now. We are so glad she did it. God bless your mother that all will go well.

Oh Deb! I sure will. Matt's Mom had the shoulder surgery and a wrist surgery a few years ago, and she is about your Mom's age. It is so hard to heal when you are up in years, I will send out an email to my Sunday School class right now. I'll add you and BooBoo too! Wow that many surgeries is a lot. But I can understand wanting to be fixed and pain free.

My Mother (79 in August) has elected to have @ least 3 different surgery's, if not 4. Two hip replacements, one shoulder & one knee replacement! Thankfully, the first 2 (hip & knee) are behind her.{sigh!} But this latest one, on her hip, 2 weeks ago ~ she still cant walk more than 15 or 20 steps without help. Please pray for her total & speedy recovery. Many Thanks.
