Oh a heated bed! well just about everything I get for my kids they end up "losing" in some way or another and they are in their 30's! LOL

April is not bad to "shred" the couch but she does the sheets and the couch pillows. I make her stop though. I don't know if she is doing it much when I am gone, because I don't think she moves her butt while I am gone HAHAHAHAHAHA!

I purchased a heated dog bed off of ebay for $100, thinking that while I was gone to work the babies would be comfy and warm. It was pretty hard and stiff and they would never lay in it. So I gave it to my son's dog a mini pin. He loved it but they have since "lost it".

I must comment on the 'shredding' thing. When we moved to CA 8 years ago, we bought a new couch. Mighty Joe would jump on it when we weren't home, and scratch furiously in one spot. Took us a while to notice. Result? Lots of long threads on one side of the couch. I took a scissor to it, and clipped all the threads back to "repair" it. Good thing that the fabric is nubby, so it's not easy to see what he's done. But we did eventually block off the living room; he is not allowed in there when we are not home!

That Burrow Bed is precious! What a neat idea.Mary, I know just what you mean about poodles being shredders. My couch almost is no more, I had to buy a new couch cover & now he has 4-5 holes in it already. Guess I should have trained him not to get on the couch, then put the new cover on it! DUHHH!!

hahaha! when april is on the couch with me, if I get up for anything, when I come back, she is parked right on the pillow that my head was on. She found out about the soft spots early on.

I also put a big beach towel down on the other side of my dresser between the chair and the dresser. She likes to snooze in there too. And she scratches it to make it like she wants it every time!

Every time Matt is packing his suitcase on Sunday night when he has to go out of town that week, April gets in it and burrows under the clothes. When she was a puppy, she burrowed under and was so small he didn't know she was in there till he got his bag out to the car and drove off and then he heard her barking in there! Now, any bag that is on the floor, no matter what room, april gets in it because I think she thinks if she is in it, she can go! Their common sense is very very good!

My Skeeter did this a lot. We called it 'nesting'. She would make a nest out of anything. All blankets in the house belonged to her. She would pull them down from wherever they were and make them into a nest and lie in them. I also had a rug that was actually a yoga mat that I kept folded up on the floor. I would straighten it up and she would go over and mess it up again! So funny!

Charm doesn't really do this too much. But at night when we get in bed, she does scratch and scratch (kind of like digging) the bedspread. I might try the burrow bed with her. She might like it.

Brenda

p.s. Also, every time I get up at night to go to the bathroom, when I come back Charm is laying on my pillow. Kind of like she is in the picture I have posted of her (although that is not my bed; it is my sister-in-law's bed).

I think that is something that Ginger would really like as she likes to get under the covers, and when she gets hot, out she comes.
She likes to hide when it is storming and I am busy and can't hold her at the moment.
Ginger has alwys scratched my rugs, carpet, bed and her bed. I can lay a blankey down on her couch nice and neat and she will immediately scratch around on it til it is messy and lay down in it.
I wandered if other poodles did that, or it was something she does.

Oh that is a great bed! That digging they do, my vet told me that Poodles are shredders. They shred things up to have a comfy bed. When April was a baby he told me to put a whole section of newspaper in her little house and then sit back and watch. He also said it was really good exercise for a tiny puppy. She would get in that house and then 5 seconds later I would hear her furiously shredding that newspaper up! And after she shredded it up to her liking, then she would arrange it around with her nose until it was just like she wanted it! It was a hoot. Then we would put fresh in the next day. But after she was about a year and a half, I stopped putting it in all the time and just as a treat.

She "shreds" anything that she is fixing to lay down on!

I'm going to go look at those beds.

Thanks!

Hi Rosa, we have been really happy with the beds. The dog shown in the ad on Target is larger but you can kind of see how it works. Mine go way under it and you can't even see they are in bed.
They have never ripped a hole in the fabric with all the digging they do to go under the flap part.

I know they advertise it as spot clean but I unzip it and take out the inner pillow and throw the rest of it in the washer and dryer and it comes out just fine.

It is a very comfy bed even if they just lay on top. Breea use to only sleep on the top of it but now she goes underneath the flap part too.
Sometimes the flap sits up like a little tent and they will run right under it to sleep other times if the flap is laying flat down, they dig/burrow to get under it. They love it!
Can you tell I love the beds too?!!

The Burrow Bed is the cutest thing! I have never seen one of those!
Ginger would love that, as she also like to get under the covers! If she gets a little hot, out she comes.
She would not sleep in the Burrow Bed at night, but she would during the day.
Anytime I go and get on the bed, here she comes!
My Grand Daughter has tried to get her to sleep with her when she spent the night, but Nooo! no way, she will only sleep with me and her Daddy!

Hi Mary, Both Ava and Breea love going under the blankets. I think that is why they like their burrow beds because the top goes over them like a blanket. Sometimes I can't even see them especially Ava because she is smaller.
I don't know if the link will work but this is what their beds look like.

legs like qtips! that is right, April did too. And when she is really stretched out, she digs those sharp pointy little tiny poodle feet right into your back! I have to twirl her around backward. She never even wakes up. And she wants to sleep under that blankey too. I am always so worried she can't breath so several times a night I will lift the covers and put some fresh air in there for her to breathe.

Ava and Breea sleep in burrow type beds right next to our bed. The poodle we had before we got the girls slept on our bed. After he passed away, we got Ava. She was so tiny. Her front legs felt like Qtips. She weighed 1 lb. and 4 oz. She gained weight very slow too so she stayed tiny for a long time.
We weren't worried that we would roll on her at night, we were afraid that she would try to jump off the bed and hurt herself. The first night she laid right in her bed and didn't cry at all.
When we added Breea she got her own burrow bed too. She was much sturdier than Ava even though Breea weighed only 2 lbs when we got her. She is just a different build and I probably would have taken her to bed at night had we gotten her before Ava.

When we start turning out the lights and brush our teeth for the night both dogs crawl inside their beds so they don't have a problem with being in their own beds. But....many times when I wake up to use the bathroom I would love to scoop them up and put them on our bed!

Scooter sleeps with us. If I get up at night and go in the other bedroom because I'm hot or I need more room he follows me. This is the first baby I've let sleep in my bed. My other dog was a yellow lab, way too big. At first I was thinking of getting a crate but I like having him in bed with us. He's a total sweetheart. When he's not getting into trouble that is.

Charm sleeps with me. My husband and I also sleep separately, due to his snoring and my insomnia. Plus I like air blowing right on me and he doesn't.

Sometimes we will take a nap together and Charm sleeps with us. She will snuggle up to him. She likes him when he is laying down. Still unsure about him when he is sitting up!

April sleeps with us! She either is in bed with her Daddy or in bed with me. We had to stop sleeping together when I started menopause because I am so hot, I have to have the fan on high. He can't sleep with the fan.

A lot of times, Matt will take April to bed and then put her out a little while later because she wants to play HAHAHAHA! He doesn't know that when he is out of town, after her last potty, we play and play and run up and down the halls HAHAHAHAHAHA! He isn't sure what is going on.

Mighty Joe was not allowed to sleep with us until he was 2 or 3. He had a bed of his own on the floor. Then, we caved in.

Sometimes he sleeps by my feet, but he's usually by my husband's feet. Mighty Joe is waiting for him to move early in the morning, maybe a half-flip in his sleep, so that he can start the ritual of whining, jumping off the bed, and scratching my husband! Such is life.

LOL! Not enough room in our bed! The girls each have their own bed at the end of our bed. Plus three in the office and three in the living room for daytime naps as well as a recliner for Barbi doll. They do however complain if we stay up too late and insist we go to bed so they can retire for the evening! They come over and rest their weary tired heavy heads on our lap and roll their eyes up in question.

Yes Bob and Ripley sleep with me. Sometimes however Ripley preferes to sleep in his bed which is next to the bed under the night stand. When my husband is home though (he works out of state) we have to remind them through out the night to "go get in your bed". They are so cute when we say that because they immediatly fly off the bed and go get in their bed. But then within about a half hour they are back in the bed. My husband really doesnt care.

Never,
Tess would take up half the bed. Both her and her brother sleep in their pens which has their crates in the kitchen. They don't wake me up until 8:15am, unless someone comes or they are sick. They are told to go night-night and they both go to their own area and wait for their night-night bone.

Not any more. From the day we got each other until maybe 2 to 3 months ago. Then the manager started complaining that he could be peeing on "HER" carpet @ night while I was asleep, so I started putting him in his crate @ night, but let him sleep w/ me when I napped. Now, I leave the door to his house open & he goes right in when I go to bed, but I don't close the door anymore. 1/2 the time he ends up in my bed!

Yes, Maggie sleeps with us.

Our other girls slept in their houses though. They both could get in and out of the bed by themselves and did not always stay put. After Shilo died when Ginny was older we let her sleep with us part of the time.

Maggie started out in her house at night. But when she was doctoring for her knees before and after surgery, I made a place for her on the bed so we could help her when she needed it. And we just let her stay. She does not jump on or off the bed b/c it is too high. She is a good dog at night - quiet, stays out of the way, is a nice back warmer, and only wakes us if it is a necessity.

There are good reasons to keep pups off the bed though. Some dogs get territorial so can be prob for couples, then there is the hygiene aspect, etc. I figure we take it on individual animals. Everyone needs to be able to be comfy and the humans must stay alpha.

I know hubby was terrified at first that he would kick her off or roll on her or that she would crawl under the blankets and suffocate. I find she is too smart for any of those. :-)

Bright Blessings
Sue

Ginger has always slept with me. Matter a fact I can't sleep without her!
She would not know how to sleep by herself!
Just wandering how many Poodles sleep with their Mommys?
I have a friend that just got a little poodle and she said she isn't going to let her sleep in the bed with her. I don't know why.
