Sue I hate to see that too. I will let April put her head out to greet someone if I have stopped, but my fingers are looped right around her chest and hind legs.

I also detest and get really upset at people have dogs in the back of a pick up truck without being in a kennel. This should be outlawed!

Yeah, when we travel with Maggie we are also careful to make sure the sun beating in the window won't get her car seat too hot. We have 'baby' sun screens for the side windows and I will rig a towel to shield sun coming from the back window.

My thought is if it looks too uncomfortable for me, it is too uncomfortable for my poodly poo!

Oh, and speaking of car safety. I hate to see dogs with their heads hanging out car windows. So much can hurt them! Things can get into their eyes or mouths. If the window is wide open, they can fall out (yes, even if you are holding on). And even worse if the window is part way up and they put their heads over the glass, it is very very dangerous if you have to stop the car suddenly. I have seen vets of TV talking about how these behaviors are responsible for awful tragedies. I wish I could tell every driver I see driving with a dog hanging out a window how they are gambling with their companion's life.

I just got the a/c fixed in my new used car for Tara. I usually don't like a/c because I'm allergic to molds and more sensitive to cold than heat, but Tara really has heat issues (more than my past poodles, it must be the shih tzu part). Anyway, the car has a back vent right between the seats. Lap puppy discovered that it's actually cooler lying in the back seat nose to the a/c duct than sitting in the passenger seat with the a/c blowing on human level. Now, I can have the temp lower in the back and thus not sniffle myself. And now it's the season to use underground parking at the shopping center and library.

We are extra careful since moving to Southern California; there's not a lot of opportunity where we could have him in the car with us.

We were driving back from the desert, and we were hungry. Traffic was horrible, so we got off the highway. We stopped at Jack in the box (my 1st time ever), via drive thru. We picked 330 calories sandwiches so we did good! Plus water.

Then, we looked for a place to park with shade so we could eat! Forget Jack's parking lot! Shade is sometimes hard to find around here. We finally saw a guy backing out of a parking spot in an office complex where he had the only shady spot!

Score!

We munched, and Mighty Joe whined...there was chicken in the sandwiches!

Peace, Love, and everything Groovy!

I don't take mine in the car unless I know they will be with us in the air conditioned car or it's just short trips, and then I never leave them unattended in a hot car. No sirree...you're right, I love them too much!

HAHAHAHA!!! That Giunger sounds just like April! she tries the sad poodly eyes on me too and if that doesn't work, she will use the anxious poodly eyes. I say no, Mommy is going to work!!! I'll be right back in just a minute. Then when I come back, we play a game called "where is Mommy's Baby??" and I say that a few times, pretending that I don't see her and then I say "OH! There's Mommy's Baby!!!!!" she twirls and hops and pumps her tiny little paws up and down begging to be picked up and loved on. I love the feel of her tiny paws on my leg because she is not a scratcher, it is a gentle little tiny feeling.

Right on Mary! No,When the weather warms up Ginger's traveling is alot less.Sometimes even in the winter.
No matter how much she whines and begs and gives me those sad poodly eyes, I leave her at home. it is hard to shut the door in her face, but it is for her own good, and she forgets all about it when I get back home!
When I get back, she gives me a happy greeting! She's running and dancing and twirling and jumping, looking for her treat!
So, just leave um home!

Car or oven? To your dog, there is no difference

by Dayna Dreger, author of Life is Better with Sheltie Hair

As the weather warms up we need to reconsider taking FiFi and Rover along for a car ride. An idle car left in a parking lot can quickly reach temperatures dangerous to the health of your dog. An outdoor temperature of 85F (29C) can see interior car temperatures of upwards of 102F (39C) within 10 minutes and 120F (48C) within 30 minutes, even with the windows cracked open! Dogs can only withstand body temperatures of 108F (42C) for a couple of minutes without risk of sustaining brain damage. Your dog will be safer and happier waiting for you at home than coming along for the ride, only to be left in the car. "Just a minute" may be a minute too long.

This is so true! I do not take April unless it is somewhere that I can take her in like the cleaners or to staples where I take her but I carry her in my arms and also I take her into Dollar General store even though it says no pets because I used to take her in as a baby in my purse and her tiny head would be peeking out and I was trying so hard to socialize her with every kind of human being there is and every kind of dog there is so she would not be jumpy and a barkey bitey dog!

Now during the winter, I will take her. But even then we have mild winters here in the south and I have had flowers blooming until well after Christmas sometimes. I bet it is the same for Rosa (Cactusflower). These are our life our Poodles and I know ya'll would never take your Poodle and leave them in the car in the summer but I can't tell you how many horrible scenes I have seen on the animal planet on those animal shelter houston shows or animal heros detroit. OMG People are so stupid and hateful to their pets. I swear I could not do that kind of work, I would get so mad I might attack someone and physically harm then over the way some dogs and cats and birds and horses are treated. If they will treat animals that way, wonder how they treat their kids and elderly. shudder.
