Yea Bob, glad you are back and feeling good. Did you ever find out why the vet pulled so many teeth? Anyway, glad you are back.

Thanks for asking about bob. He is doing soooo good. He is back to prancing and smiling and teasing his brother. You can hardly even see his incision. He is eating good again too except for now he eats slower do to his teeth being pulled. I am so thankful that we got past that and that he doesnt have to wear that horrible cone around his head anymore.

I hope Bob's feeling better. I'd definitely take him to another vet. The removed teeth might only be part of the problem. The original vet did such a bad job with the stitching, I wouldn't be surprized at this point if he didn't nick something else in the surgery, and of course the intestines end not far from where the undescended testicle might've been.

Hi, I am new here and just read Bob's story. I think I would take him to a different vet and have him checked out. I still don't get why they pulled his teeth?! That is crazy.

Maybe Bob had gotten hold of something he shouldn't have had and ingested it? Poor little guy! My dog got his hands on a paper plate that I used to cook turkey bacon on in the microwave this morning. No repercussions...yet.

Hi everyone, Bob has been doing so good for the past week now. But then today he acts sickly. He usually is bright eyed and bushey tailed in the mornings. But he stayed in his little bed that is under my night stand this morning. I took him some peices of turkey. (he is usually begging for it in the kitchen while I make my lunch in the mornings)but he didnt want it. Then I saw that he had vomited. Foamy water. No food in it. I really hated to leave him this morning. I hope that he is ok. I have been hand feeding him skinless roasted chicken from the deli since his surgury. He only eats about 2 or 3 tbls 2x a day. It is pretty bland so I dont know why he is sick. I hope its not related to his surgury. What do you guys do for your poodles upset tummy?

hah! nice to men. that must mean I'm not much of a lady because I don't care if you are man or woman if you are in a position to be taking care of a living thing, you better have your big girl/boy pants on.

I would print this whole article that we typed back and forth and send it to the association of veterinarians, the better business bureau and the chamber of commerce!

ah, but there's still the Better Business Bureau. This needs to go on record...others thinking about using this vet, if they do their homework, will see the complaint and think twice.

So glad that Bob is healing.

Glad to see a different perspective on the vet. I felt sad after seeing the last Bob update because it felt like the vet was getting away with it. After all, Bob now has few remaining teeth to be removed for profit, and his human will have to feed him soft food for the rest of his life, which might well be shortened because of all the extractions (as well as its quality diminished).

Of course a vet with this business practice has defenses: he's got his money for removing all the teeth as well as the testicle surgery, probably didn't care about the dog in the first place, and by restitching has presumably covered up evidence of his surgical incompetance. Of course it's all a "misunderstanding" to him. When Bob's fully healed, there will be no pictures of what he looked like right after the surgery, nor unbiased professional record of what was done to him. But then we women are taught to be nice to males, especially professionals. And another vet might well take a "there but for the grace of god" attitude about the botched surgery too.

Guess I would talk to the vet and question why he had to pull the teeth. Would be nice about it. Then when Bob is healed - I would definitely change vets. We drive 35 miles extra to go to a different vet and it made a world of difference. Bob is only two with lots of years ahead and is so important to have a good rapport with your vet.

oh I will never go there again! believe me. Other than to remove the staples. Oh and i learned that if they have to replace the staples its about $150. plus they gave me an ointment to help with the inflamation. And they didnt charge me anything due to the "misunderstanding". (because I got so mad)

OMG I just read this whole thread. I had no idea what had been going on with poor little tiny Bob! I think I would have thrown a good old fashioned snot slinging fit with that doctor and I would NEVER take him back there. 10 teeth! and a 4 inch incision in a 5 inch tiny belly. Makes me grit my teeth.

Let us know how your little Angel is doing!

Bob Report.... He is doing good. He is so excited now when I come home from work. Before he could hardly lift his head. His belly is still black and blue and swollen and lumpy but the incision looks pretty good. I am still spoiling him a lot and hand feeding which I may do forever because he is actually eating. I also take him cold drinks of water in a dixie cup and he drinks that. The doctor said he was pretty dehydrated so I am trying to correct that. He has started doing a new thing where he licks his chops over and over. I think its from the teeth being gone and it was to sore before and now it just feels weird. Poor brother Ripley has felt pretty left out through out all of this. I think he is wondering why Bob is getting all of the attention. Bob gets his staples out on wednesday!!!

The latest on Bob.... He seems to be perking up a bit. He still walks pretty bull legged and really wants to chew on his nasty staples. But he can't because of the cone on his head. He is eating pretty good as long as its warm roasted chicken in tiny bits and hand fed to him. He has developed a fear of the doggie door because his cone crashes everytime he tries to go through it. So I just taped it open so its a little easier. He takes it pretty slow going through it. It will be 7 days tomorrow so we are almost half way there to getting the staples out.
I had to go back to work on monday and today but i have driven home on my lunch hour to check on him even though its about a 30 mile round trip. Which means I get to sit with him for about 20 minutes with his cone off. That makes him very happy. He hasnt fought the cone to bad I think because he is used to me putting coats and clothes on him sometimes so he probably thinks it another one of my weird fashion statements. Thanks so much to all of you for your friendship and support.

Yes, yes, yes...I agree with the others. Please keep us posted as to how Bob is doing. Let us know what you find out (if anything) about this vet (and I use that title lightly for that person!) as to whether he/she has had other complaints. If you complain to the BBB even if there are no other complainers, that's one black mark against him/her.

I totally agree with everything Jane said below. There are vets who will perform unnecessary surgery, such as pulling teeth that are healthy, without consulting the owner, all in an effort to make more $$$s. Did he give you the teeth?

My Mighty Joe is 14. He has had teeth pulled (3), and my vet said those needed to come out, showed me which ones, AND gave them to me after wards! And it was true; Mighty Joe has never allowed me to brush his teeth, and in his old age, he gets a lot of buildup (he gets professional cleanings a couple of times a year). And, I was given pain pills and antibiotics.

Based on what I know, there is something very wrong going on in your situation. I feel so bad about all this!

One other suggestion. Google the vet, and see if you find any complaints. Also, look on the better business bureau website, and see if anyone else has reported him (chances are pretty high on that one).

Hang in there.

Peace, Love, and everything Groovy!

I'd report the vet to the local humane society and maybe to the veterinary board. The former might know appropriate media outlets, but only the vet board can pull his/her license or otherwise discipline him for his lack of skill and very questionable ethics.

Pulling all those teeth seems inhumane enough, perhaps punishing the dog for waking during the other surgery and trying the bite the vet or something. And you and the dog have to live with the results. If the vet pulled the teeth merely to charge you for the almost certainly unnecessary surgery, it's extremely unethical as well as probably illegal without your prior consent. (it would be criminal assault upon a human patient)

While the Elizabethan collars are a commmon solution to dogs picking at stitches, restitching/restapling without anesthesia also sounds like a problem. As would be not giving you pain pills to assist Bob during the first few days/nights. I'm not into overmedicating dogs, but that's common practice for female dogs being spayed and I would think the same applies to male dogs with the more complicated undescended testicle surgery. Removing an undescended testicle isn't an uncommon (one of my late dog's pup's had to have it--waiting a few more years could mean further complications--but his family shopped for an appropriate vet), and this sounds a horrible mess.

Thanks for keeping us updated.

Jane.

what a horrific story...very sad to see the latest news. I agree that this vet should be reported somewhere...his "methods" should be publicized so that others are warned. The media is out there to help in situations like this, + perhaps others will come forward.

OMG...I would report them...who can you report them to? Honestly, not giving him anything when re-stapling him was just downright inhumane. If nothing else I would contact my local tv stations to let them know and see if they would be interested in doing a human interest story on this vet. How incredibly awful. This just doesn't sound right to me that they would've done something like this especially if they are a reputable vet. God bless him and you also. I honestly cannot imagine the pain he must have had to endure. My heart just goes out to him. :(

Here is the Bob report. We had a bad first night. He was in a lot of pain and whimpered most of the night. I tried my best to keep him from licking it. But by morning he had pulled out all of his staples. Yes his incision is about 4 inches long and stapled closed. His tummy is about 5 inches long so that gives you an idea of how big it is. So I had to go back on Friday and they put all new staples in. About 20 of them and they didnt deaden the area or anything. Then they put a big cone collar on him so he cant get at them again. He hates it. Last night (sunday) he vomited all night. His little mouth is very sore to from pulling all of those teeth and he will only eat tiny pieces of roasted chicken, and only if I hand feed it to him. I havent left his side for 4 days and today I had to leave him to go back to work. I am going to drive home on my lunch hour to check on him. (about 15 miles). I was worried that Ripley my bigger dog would hurt him because he plays so rough with him but he hasnt. Its so weird that he knows something is wrong. He checks on him frequently and is really gentle with him. He sniffs is sore belly and then washes his eyes for him with licks of the tongue. Poor Bob crashes every time he tries to go through the doggie door or jump on the couch because of the big cone collar. It barely fits through the doggie door. I have another 10 days to look forward to of this since they wont take out the staples until then. My daughter works for a Vet. She about died when she saw what they had done to him and the frankenstien incision they made. If I could go back in time I never would have done it.

Sorry to hear about Bob. Hope he's doing better. I agree that they should've asked about the teeth, especially since he is just 2. Even gum disease can be kept in check at that age by tooth cleaning. I know my vet now asks routinely about tooth pulling on the surgery form (even if it has nothing to do with the mouth). I always check the no space and to have them ask me specifically. If the gum disease is bad enough that the teeth are getting loose, of course the tooth has to come out, but dogs do need their teeth. Personally, I'd file a complaint about the tooth removal.

Poor Bob - Poor you! There is no reason for the receptionist to be glib in any case. RUDE. And I think they should have asked about pulling the teeth first.

Hey, ask about the teeth. Seriously, if they were in bad shape and he has gum disease it may have been important to get them out - NOW. If they were really bad and/or loose in his gums or decayed below the gum line, they would have needed to come out. Bad teeth and gums can cause serious chronic issues for dogs not the least of which is congestive heart failure. Young deaths in dogs can result from poor mouth conditions.

Make sure the vet explains why it was necessary - it very well could be in Bob's best health interest. You may even have saved his life by allowing the vet to do this. Just make sure they explain why.

Sending you and Bob lots of love, prayers, and healing energy. Perhaps now Bob can move forward and live a less health-issue life.

Hang in there. Bob is a fighter. Help him to heal quicker by using all of the positive energy, words and emotions you can use in front of him.

Bob will be just fine, I will however keep BOTH of you in my prayers. BooBoo went thru this & was just about Bobs age, I was scared for him as well, going to work that day was the best thing for me. But, it is a very routine procedure & relatively simple. Bob will be fine. He's tougher than you think.

Hoe Bob is okay. I don't understand why they didn't call and ask permission about the teeth!

ewww I am so mad! I called to see how bob was and the receptionist laughed at everything that was said. She said that he had a hard time getting one of the testicals out so he has a very long incision with STAPLES!!! And she says they pulled TEN teeth!! They didnt call me or anything. i dont think anything was wrong with his teeth. He is only 2 years old!

Well I left scared, shaking Bob at the vet this morning. I had dreams all night that I had left him on the beach and when I went back to get him there were hundreds of sick abandoned little dogs there but I couldnt find Bob. It was awful. Now I feel like I have abandoned him at the vet for stupid elective surgury that could cost him his life if things go wrong. He is so tiny and not very strong. I hope I can get through this day. I feel sick that I am doing this to my little baby.
