My NSV this week is my 'new' shorts. My daughter only brought them for me last summer & they fitted just perfect. This year I need a belt on them to keep them up. emoticon

Morning all,

Nicole, we have the same problem. The whole sizing thing is positively ridiculous. I find it hard to belive that I got into a 14 BUT I am not complaining as it is a bit of an ego booster even if it is a 'big' 14....... emoticon

Hey Sharyn! That is wonderful! The BEST feeling is when you can fit into a smaller size! WOO! HOO!
Hey, if you ever want to feel tiny, buy some clothes with American sizing. We are about 2 sizes different. They call it "courtesy" sizing. Its gotten so dumb though. What used to be a 12 in the 50's and 60's is now called an 8! I have also heard that the U.S. is the only country with a size 0! LOL!

fantastic Karen, exciting news.

My NSV today was fitting into a size 14 t-shirt. I have been an 20 - 22 for so long that I very nearly looked straight past it but my Mum suggested I give it a shot. WOO HOO....... it fits (still in size 18 pants though).

Thanks, Crystal! I am excited! WOO HOO!

I praise God today, because I KNOW that HE has had it all under control all along the way, and will continue to be in control. I am just THANKFUL that I have been at PEACE with the whole situation. It shows me that I have grown through the past few months. Even more important than the weight issues, has been the changes on the INSIDE! PTL!

I have one for today! I went to go buy a few new pieces of clothing (from the clearance rack) to get me by for a bit. My husband is currently unemployed (but we're hoping for GREAT things at his interview today!) but, he was given a blessing we didn't expect and he gave me $100 with strict orders to buy some clothes with it. Anyway, I went shopping and found some skirts that were cute for $4-10, I picked out the size 14 and they were HUGE! So, I kind of laughed and took the size 10 back to the dressing room, and guess what?? They fit...AND they are a little BIG! I bought them, but now after wearing them today, I am thinking I need to go get an 8! Now, I CANNOT fit in a size 10 pants yet (my rear and legs are too big) but my waist is small enough with an A-line skirt to fit an 8! I have NEVER, EVER been a single digit size in anything! WOO HOO!

emoticon I have lost one ENTIRE pound!!! And, an inch from my waist!!! And, I think it was a half inch from my hips. (I saved the measurements, but don't want to lose this page now to go and look for them...)
I absolutely made a pig of myself one day last week, on shrimp and chips, but was under calories most other days; maybe my body needed the shock!
Now, I am about to head out for my morning walk, which was not really planned, but, I am out of milk, and hate black coffee.....
Let's have a good week this week!

Yep! One goal at a time! I was very close to gutting my whole wardrobe, as I hadn't been able to wear ANY of it for over four years! My husband wouldn't let me...and I thank HIM for being so insistent! Now, I wear some of the clothes and everyone asks if it's NEW! Well, it sort of is!!

I still a couple pair of pants in my wardrobe I am aiming for too. I can get them on but not done up. So by next winter, my dream is to be able pass them on because they are now too big.

My NSV for Tuesday is that I got my big dog washed. She was very reluctant but I partly lifted her coz she sat down dead weight but once she realized there was no escape, it was a breeze.

Oh I sure needed fresh clothes after that & the bathroom walls got washed too with having her shake down before she went outside.

I finally traced that smell!

It was my scrap bucket that I use for the compost. I have on ocassions not emptied it daily & over the years the smell had permeated the plastic. So it is now gone. Time to buy some more ice-cream in a bucket so I can get a new bucket.

What a grand excuse to have ice-cream.

Leslie, I just got back from my walk and wanted to let you know that I thought of you while I was out there. I got "Jumped" by 2 dogs. I didn't get bit like you did, but it did scare me. I was listening to my music and minding my own business, when these 2 dogs (not on a leash) ran from their yard out to the street where I was, barking like crazy and when they got to me I kind of froze. They were jumping and pawing at my legs, then I realized they weren't going to bite and walked away. Their owner yelled at them and got them back in their yard. Here in our town there is a leash law that is pretty strict. You cant have a dog off a leash in a non enclosed area even if it is your own yard. Anyway, after reading your story I was sure I was going to get bit! Thank goodness I didn't.

I agree; I love dogs, but hate it when they are so totally untrained. My bruises are fading.....
That was my first experience with that breed, and he was attractive---too bad his personality didn't match his looks......
I hadn't seen him before, and haven't seen him since, so I hope he was just a visitor to the area....

Leslie,

That woman is crazy & it is clear that not only can she not control it but it has had NO training at all. There is NO WAY I would allow one of my dogs to stand up on a person.

Oh btw........ the breed is actually a Labradoodle, which is a cross between a labradour & a Poodle. They are meant to be very gentle but as with everything, there is always an exception.

The dog was on a leash, and the woman was about my size, ie, short, and clearly didn't have control of him. He looked like a very attractive large dog, and as we passed on the sidewalk, I did not approach the dog, but asked her 'what kind?' and as she replied 'golden doodle' (whatever that is!), he jumped up on me in a friendly fashion and I wasn't concerned at first, but he must have smelled my cat on my jacket (and, thank God I was wearing the jacket!) and he started to get aggressive and the woman had NO control over him! When I finally got loose from him, I glared at him and said NO!! and walked away, but I didn't have a lot of faith that the woman could hold him back, but somehow, I got away with no further damage.
It was a little scary, and I have only been bitten one other time by a dog, and that was a Chihuahua, lol. But, this dog was very large, and could have really done some damage. I hope a small child or an older person does not get badly injured by that dog. I probably should have reported it, but didn't even think of it, being so relieved to get away!
When I went out for my walk this evening, I didn't see them again, thank goodness!
And, I am still smoke free!
Leslie

Great job, Leslie. Wow...a dog bit you? I think I would be carrying something with me from now on. I never even thought of that, we don't really have any problems around here, although, I guess any dog could get loose, and it is always a risk. Hope you recover quickly!

So sorry about the dog...looks like you need a stick to walk with...here we just throw rocks at the dogs that come after us. They are so used to it too that when you bend down to pick up a rock...they flee!!

Thanks Sharyn!! (Somehow I didn't find this thread until just now!)
I have now almost completed 6 days smoke free.
My other NSV for yesterday was that I got out for TWO walks!!! (Unfortunately, on the way home from the second one, I was bitten by a dog.....didn't break the skin, but I have 3 bruises from his teeth)

True, and I don't mind the riding time, just the waiting time....that was when I used to smoke, but now I'm not doing that any more.

yes.......... that is the worst draw back of having to rely on buses....... the time it takes. BUT...... when it is a 20 or 30 minute trip, it is great reading or knitting time.

WTG Sharyn! I also hate to miss a bus, because it is the same here: if I miss one there is another half hour before the next....
I still do miss my car, though not the expense of having one. The other day I had 2 errands to do, which would have taken me all of 20 minutes if I'd had a car, but, took me 2 1/2 hours doing it by bus.

Karen & Chrystal,

they are both FANTASTIC NSV's. emoticon

Yesterday my NSV was being able to run. As I came out from the Dr's rooms & was about to cross the road my bus came chugging up the road. I waved to it in an effort to let the driver know I was on the way but not sure if he took any notice (let alone saw me). Man did I bolt???? (I had another 30 minutes to wait if I missed it). So there I was running like a crazed woman dragging my little cart behind me.

I did it....... totally out of breath BUT not so much from being unfit but from the asthma. A couple of puffs on my inhaler & I was fine........ emoticon emoticon

Way to go Sharyn and Karen! Those are great accomplishments!
My latest NSV....I can go for a walk including the hills by my house now...and get to the top without getting out of breath halfway up!!!! I really just noticed this yesterday when I took a 40 min walk and it included 2 big hills! I have avoided going for a walk that way the whole time we have been here. Now I choose to go that way!! The view once I got there was breathtaking! Seeing the ocean from those hills is beautiful! The next time I am taking my camera a posting a picture of it!

Karen, I worry too much myself. and you are right, what good does it do? It just makes us miserable. Sometimes after a situation is resolved I feel stupid for getting myself so worked up over the situaltion that wasn't as bad as I anticipated anyway. So I think that is a great and HUGE thing for yourself! WTG!

WOW! Great job, everyone! I also like to remind myself that there are SO many ways to see NSV's. For me, it has been my attitude of worry. Maybe that doesn't sound like a big thing, but it's been HUGE to me and I know that my health is better because of it. I have had to learn to LET IT GO...worry doesn't accomplish ANYTHING...but making me miserable. I can't change the future, I can't always change the situation, but I can change how I handle it. I can let go...and let God take care of things. This is my huge NSV for the MONTH!! Maybe even the year!! :-)

I was thinking about this thread last night & decided that my mowing the lawns was a real NSV for me.

I was able to do all 3 lawns plus the neighbours section of the nature strip. And although I came indoors totally exhausted....... it was such a fantastic feeling.

AND I still had enough energy to use June's leaf blower to 'sweep' the pavements later in the afternoon after I had lunch.

I'm sorry, Nicole; you are right---you can't quit for him.
You might mention the possibility of the new med Chantix if he shows any interest in quitting again. It has helped so many people, and evidently removes the 'pleasure' from smoking, so it is a lot easier to quit.

Yes, Nicole, I am using the gum. I would prefer the patch, but I am allergic to the adhesive on it.
Is your husband planning to quit again? I have quit so many times, and some times have been easier than others; this is not one of the easier ones, but, maybe if I have to struggle with it for a while, I will be less likely to want to have to ever repeat the experience.

Are you using anything to help you Leslie? Like the nicotine gum or the patch? My husband quit for a while on the patch but he said he had very vivid dreams. He uses the gum whenever he is somewhere that he can't smoke.

I received good news for me! Got my results back from routine blood work. Everything is great. Especially cholesterol Last time was little high--triglycerides were high. This time chol. is 154(down 50 pts)--ldl--is good and hdl is good. Could bring good up a little-dr. says by exercise, what I eat, and wt. loss. Which is exactly what I'm doing. So...I'm on my way. Was great news for me!! So all my work is definately paying off in more ways than just wt. & inches lost

There is literature about nicotine being the very hardest addiction to quit, and I have known alcoholics who have said that giving up the booze was much easier than quitting smoking!
It is tough. I have now just about finished my first 24 hours, but it hasn't been easy.

The power of cigeretts is scary. My husband has tried to quite several times. I am so glad I never picked up that habit, it seems like the hardest addiction to kick.

Thanks to everyone for your good wishes. And, thank you, Shari!! I know that is a sacrifice for you!
When I quit for 12 years, I didn't expect to ever smoke again but, one day my fiance left a cig burning in an ashtray while he left the room, and I had ONE PUFF because I wondered what it would taste like after all that time.....big mistake!! I awakened the sleeping beast, and have been trying to quit again ever since.
I am REALLY struggling today, but, I am taking this one day at a time, and I will not smoke today.

Shari, that is awsome! You showed so much willpower by just having a little bit. I have a hard time stopping once I start.

You are all doing so wonderful! I have not lost much at all in 2 months. Not a platau, I have just been eating alot. I think my excercize routine is keeping me from actually gaining but I want to see a big drop again. I want to look like Crystal who is 15 lbs lighter than me, so that is my next goal. 160!

Sometimes it pays to feed a craving a little to avoid the bigger one so was a good effort to stop yourself Shari

My NSV today was controlling my craving. I've been hungry for candy. So I DID buy some, but the smallest individual size of the lowest calorie one I could find (in the gummy type) and I only allowed myself to have half of that. 85 empty calories, but it took care of the craving.

P.S. to Leslie -- I didn't have coffee today!

I usually don't have a lot of trouble in the beginning, but, it's the staying quit I have a problem with. I hope I can go on to match my previous record of 12 years!
