Sounds like a great test run for the ankle to make sure it's strong enough. Just be careful and safe.

Shari,

that sounds like a grand idea. I think before I go out for an overnight trip, I will go for a day walk. Just walk till lunch time & then return home.

My brother Steve (with the camper) just told me he loves to hike (even with his bad knees)...go figure...he's a postie and walks all day long! So now that the humidity is lessening I'm going to get him to go with me on hikes on Sunday's. I should be able to get some great pictures as the same time.

Totally agree that you need to be sure of the ankle before you go out in the bush so to speak,if cell goes you could be in a pickle

Sadly, I need to postpone my camping trip as my ankle is not up for the long walk yet.

The couple of days running round with my grandsons, proved this.

so I need to give a few more weeks apparently as it was a bad tear.

BUT........is better to work this out BEFORE I left.

I will go but just need to make sure the ankle is healed thoroughly. So in the meantime, I will be doing even more training. emoticon

That sounds like a lot of fun. I've been wanting to go camping, but not a fan of sleeping on the ground, even in a sleeping bag...too many creepy crawlies. However my brother just bought a 5th wheel that sleeps 8 or so. The next time they go out for the weekend I'm gonna beg to go along.

Wow! Sharyn. That sounds like quite the adventure. I am not sure if I would have enough spunk to do something like that. I hope you have a safe and enlightening trip.

thanx everyone. I quite looking forward to it. This trip is just a pracky run for the big one. I will only be out for one night.

But I am now in 'officially' training for a big hike next winter. The dogs need to be in training too. My big one is overweight & not used to walking long distances but she sticks with it whilst we are out. Will be very interesting to see how she copes on a day long hike....LOL!!!

oh yes........ Dad used to keep wire netting or fly wire over our chimneys for the same reason. Sparrows were well known for fly down chimneys as well as flys.

Thats interesting. I wonder if that was what was happening to us.

We also had a situation where a bird flew down the chimney into the living room flying around and screaching. I have never really been a fan of birds after those situations.

Oh well, sorry mate. BUT they do have a bad rep in some places for that reason.

As to the birds swooping you......... that sounds like the Magpies here in Australia. Every Spring they start swooping as part of their territorial range. Most people have found that if we put food out for them, they stop swooping the locals. BUT should a stranger walk through their territory...... they had better be ready to duck real quick.

I was just kidding about them being nasty. I saw a picture of them and they look quite cute. I have always been afraid of birds. When I was a kid we had this crazy bird living in our tree in the front yard, and it would attack us when we walked outside. We used to take a broom outside with us and wave it above our heads while we walked out there to keep it away. I'm sure our neighbors thought we were totally nuts.

well I have to say, I have never come across a nasty Kookaburra out in the wild. Out in the bush, they will fly from people.

The only time they are likely to get nasty is if you try to fed them at a touristy picnic site where they get used to being fed by hand. That has been banned now but naturally, there are always idiots who think they know better than the Wildlife People.

oh yes........ My last walk was goning to take up to a week. It was going to be a 60 mile hike but i only got 20 mile out before 1 of my dogs, Molly, sliced her foot open & I had to call my sister for a ride home.

By the time Molly was upto walking again, it was late spring & getting too hot. I am not about to try that walk again yet as it takes a LOT of training. BUT I do hope to one day.

Hi everyone,

As I was walking this morning, I made the decision that I am definately going camping. It won't be a long trip........ just 1 night out.

I will leave home first thing in the morning & walk til late afternoon. Set up camp & then return home the next morning. I will take my darling dogs.

emoticon emoticon emoticon

I have done this before but it was a few years ago before my ballooned to over 200lb.

I am not going until next week though as I need to go my daughters tomorrow for a couple of nights.
