Thanx Shari. We don't have that here but we do have Season All. But as Jen says, I will more likely go the individual spices & seasonings, as I loathe Season All. Can't wait to go shopping on Thursday.

It's a "spanish" blend of seasonings. Goya makes it. Maybe it's only available here in the states. But it consists of: salt, garlic, oregano, black pepper and tumeric along with preservatives (yuck)...similar to "season all"....or you could just use the individual ingredients.

I have always hated beans. But several years ago, my former boss took me out to lunch for "secretaries day" and I tried the black bean soup he ordered. It was thick and really delicious. I got to talk to the chef and he explained the difference was the balsalmic vinegar. Thus began my foray into balsalmic vinegar and beans. I now love beans and eat a variety.

I am not normally big on beans but must admit I would like to try this one.


Will try to put one of my recipies on here soon but will have to do some thinking, most of the time I dont cook from a recipe

I forgot! I shredded mint leaves in it too!

Ok. The soup. I submitted it, but it has yet to be approved.

1 giant can or 2 16-oz cans of black beans rinsed & drained.
1 cup each diced celery, onion, carrot
2 cloves garlic minced
1 pound ground turkey or chicken
5 cans low sodium chicken broth
spices to taste (I use cummin, adobo, black pepper and red pepper flakes)

Sautee the turkey/chiken. When cooked through remove from stock pot and add the veggies and cook until onions turn translucent (you may need a drizzle of olive oil). Add the cooked meat back into the pot along with the spices (1 generous tbsp of cummin, 1 tbsp of adobo, 1 tsp black pepper and the red pepper flakes depending on your level of tolerance...oh, yeah also a generous tbsp or two of parsley. Add the chicken broth and simmer at least 1/2 hour to blend the flavors.

As a variation, I do NOT drain the beans and I add 2 tbsp of balsalmic vinegar. The soup gets thicker, like a stew.

Thanks Sharyn this thread is a good idea. I have lots of ideas so i will try and post one here tommorrow. Guys since you will all be coming here to check this thread out. If you have a really good idea for another thread to get us interactive and focused on our task of weight loss by all means start one. I have no qualms at all about you doing that because good threads get old after awhile and more cooks can spice things up. How's that for a recipe lol

I was hungry for pasta salad the other day. So I used a cup of leftover whole wheat pasta, 8 grape tomatoes, cut in half, 1/2 cup cubed cucumber (with the skin) and 1/2 a roasted red pepper. I added a tablespoon of grated parmesan cheese, 4 tbsp of a low cal (rosemary & lime vinaigrette dressing -- 35 cals for 2 tbsp) and 1 packet of Splenda. So yummy I'm drooling just thinking about it. I also have a black bean soup recipe, but I'll save that for my next post to this thread.

This idea for a topic came from another dear friend... thank you Jamie.

If you have a favourite 'recipe' that you love to eat regularly AND is low cal, then why not share it with us here. I know we can add our recipies to Sparks recipe site but I think this is easier & more personal..... Just between friends.

For example: I love veges flavoured with lemon &/or lime juice. It adds flavour to what might be the same ol', same ol' dish & reduces the need for salt.
