Definitely depressive episodes can come out of the blue sometimes. Sometimes its meds uneffective, sometimes its stresses, heck it could even be hormonal. S.A.D seasonal affective disorder is related to melatonen levels in the brain for example.

The thing is in my case clinical depression didnt get better without the meds. You can get the blues without having depression which is why it is best to talk to a doctor. You could also talk to Sharyn she too has dealt with depression for a long time and she would not mind answering questions either

Thats exactly how I feel. I came home early and took a 3 hour nap today. I feel like my brain is all foggy too. This is so wierd because I was feeling so energetic just a couple of weeks ago. I am determind to fight through this!

I know that before I was diagnosed I was sleeping a lot, heck if I laid down on the couch i would lose hours from unplanned naps.I couldnt make myself do much of anything in those days just wanted to escape everything through sleep

I am really trying to pull myself out of my funk. I am constantly tired and wish I could just stay in bed and sleep. I am not sure if I feel depressed because I feel so run down and tired or if I feel that way because I am depressed. This weekend is my 20 year high school reunion and I have decided not to go. I just don't feel up to it. Yes I think a big part of it is that I don't want people to see me heavy, but it feels more than that. Sorry if I'm not making sense, it really doesn't make sense to me eaither.

Whenever u need to talk Chrissy, there's someone round here. Try to keep busy too, that can take ur mind off things.
I watched my mum's life support get turned off 11yrs ago n my dad died 2 yrs ago, plus I've had 2 siblings go as well.
People say that things get easier over time n sometimes it is, sometimes not especially with anniversary's n their b'day, xmas etc.
I hope u have as many pics of ur mum sittin around as I have of my relatives. Keep safe, cya.

Glad to meet you, Sharyn said she was sending an invite to someonw but she had to go out of town before she said who. Yes depression is a vicious circle. Ive suffered it for over four years, and am currently on stress leave from work. Both Sharyn and I have decided we wont let it win. We try to remain as positive as possible, keep active even when we dont feel like it. We are here when you need to talk.

Ive been treated for depression and it's not a good thing.So much has happened to me in my life time and I stay depressed all the time.I take meds for it sometimes it works sometimes it don't.I lost my Mother last year and I'll never get over that and this year I was laid off from job because I broke my left thumb last year at work so they decided to let me go.And still can't use it.And I could go on but I want.I've gained all this weight from this staying home and never going anywhere.That makes me more depressed.

I thought I'd bring this thread upto the top with the hope that everyone gets something out of the following. It's called the Goose Story by an unknown source for many of us trying to develop supportive structures, be they in families, schools, communties, friends or work...

Next Fall when u c geese heading south for the Winter...
Flying along in V formation...
U might consider what science has discovered as to why they fly that way.

As each bird flaps it's wings, it creates an uplift for the bird immediately following.
By flying in V formation the whole flock adds at least 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew on it's own.

People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they're going more quickly and easily because they are travelling on the thrust of one another.

When a goose falls out of formation it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of trying to go it alone and quickly gets back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird in front.

If we have as much sense as a goose we will stay in formation with those who are headed the same way we are.

When the head goose gets tired, it rotates back in the wing and another goose flies point.
It is sensible to take turns doing demanding jobs with people or with geese flying south.

Geese honk from behind to encourage those up front to keep up their speed.
What do we say when we honk from behind?

Finally...this is important...
When a goose gets sick or is wounded by gunshots and falls out of formation, two other geese fall out with that goose and follow it down to lend help and protection.

They stay with the fallen goose until it is able to fly or until it dies and only then do they launch out on their own, or with another formation to catch up with their group.

If we have the sense of a goose
Humanity would all stand by eachother like that.
So the next time someone calls u a goose, appreciate it.

I'm glad things are better for you Jennifer, I have never been diagnosed with clinical depression, but sometimes I feel that deep sadness that feels very dark. I do think mine is mostly hormonal. It usually only happens at certain times of the month.

However, I am feeling it more latily and I think that has more to do with what I am trying to deal with health wise and also some garbage going on at work. Just trying to survive.

Me too...I'd probably still be on them if my hubby hadn't suggested trying to go without them...I'm definitely glad to be off the rollercoaster AND the meds!! :o)

Glad you got off them, I did try them, they worked for a while, but had to move on to stronger ones but I am on an even keel with Effexor

I was on Celexa for almost a year; it made a HUGE difference in my life. I highly recommend looking into it...basically they helped me get - and stay - on an even keel so I could figure out what was going on. (Turns out it was a toxic friendship...I no longer need the meds, yay!!)

Hey with or without the meds you will have good and bad days, all the pils do is even out the highs and lows so you dont notice such marked differences in your days

You know it may be time to talk to your doctor again about meds I take effexor and it doesnt make me sleepy or gain weight. Granted it is not cheap if you dont have coverage but you would be amazed at how different it can make you feel. I wouldnt get angry I would cry at the drop of a hat and now I dont anywhere near as much. Just something to think about

I give tons of advice, let me know if it gets to be too much

awwwww thank you so much jen,, Ya i got to break that habbit saying sorry all the time.. No i have not try having a journal but I will give it a try.. it means so much that you all are being here for me.. yes my hubby would agreed with you.. ya he told me one day taht I am not the same person, i turn into a angry person like i am always mad and full of anger.. dont know if the depression did that.. Transition for children is harder on parents that the kids I think, so dont beat yourself up for what has to happen for her own wellbeing. Have you ever tried keeping a gratitude journal. You sound like me a while back I was so negative I swear I was the nastiest person alive if people could read my mind. I started keeping a gratitude journal listing three things each day I was grateful for. At first it was hard but slowly it change how I think and when I get too negative I stop myself cold. You are a loving mother and I will bet your husband unless there is something wrong with him would disagree with you being a bad wife. One thing you can stop doing here, stop apologizing for everything if you have a headache so be it you cant be here, if you have to leave to attend to your daughter that is life, nothing you need to apologize for. Sorry if I sound like I am preaching but I hate to see people in the kind of pain I have been in. I Love you as a friend Dorothy and even Dorothy is not allowed to pick on her

hi so sorry about that..
My daughter havent been sleeping well she in a big girl bed now..

Just bascially feel like a failure as a friend, as a wife and a mother,, bascially to everyone,, I know I am so bad for feeling like this,, i am so trying to feel better

Hey Dorothy, I know exactly what you mean in fact I equivovate depression with quicksand, you know you are stuck in it but there is very little you feel you can do to escape it. One of the biggest things Ive learned to avoid is isolation, believe me when I say it makes things worse. Try to do things in small controllable steps when you feel you are not getting anything accomplished. I have learned to combine tasks into a sort of game. I know it sounds wacky but it works. I have internet up when I do chores, I do a chore, then I do something fun on the computer and then repeat before long my chores are gone. I do the same thing with exercise when I dont want to go within a country mile of the treadmill combine a couple of min on treadmill with something I would rather do. Once I get focused and moving sometimes depressive episodes either lessen or disappear with the sense of accomplishment

ps if a single chore is big like putting away laundry I break it down, put away three things answer an email, etc
