Happy Monday, OP family! My weekend seemed to whirl by. Spent all day Saturday working on my final exam and got a good bit of it done! Then Sunday I slept in and kiddo and I spent the afternoon cleaning the house together. Only 2 days in it this week and then he and I are off on separate adventures for the holiday.

What a fantastic bit of stuff going on over here! Gopher and hawk sightings, early T-day celebrations and choir, fires (!). Goodness! It sounds like everyone on here is doing well. Kay, I hope your neighbors are alright. You know I live in SoCal and am very familiar with fires. I have a couple friends who have lost everything to fires in the past. It's quite the traumatic experience. Do you know if they have somewhere to stay or if they had pets or kids or anything? Gosh. My heart goes out to them. Let me know if they create a kickstarter or gofundme or anything. I'd happily donate.

Well, time to get to work! Should be a pretty easy day.

Oh! the website for the conference is www.timetothrive.org emoticon

Cool sightings on your hike there, Trail Trodder! Hope you get more in the days to come, sounds like a treat to have 10 days of hiking!

Choc, were you able to enjoy some hot tub time with those winds? Brrrrrr....

We had quite the event yesterday, I was about to head to the grocery store, when I heard a bunch of sirens, and saw a couple of fire engines on the cross street ahead (we live on a cul-de -sac), then Larry came out and said, "you have to come see this!", so I went out on the deck and one of the homes across the canyon was engulfed in flames! You can see a picture on my blog from yesterday, if you are interested. It took them a bit to finally put the thing out, Quite sobering, especially since I was just thinking how grateful I was to have a roof over my head (that was my status post yesterday before this happened!). It really goes to show how quickly things can change.

Anyway, happy Monday! It's a short week for me, so I'm going to enjoy that!

Sounds like a great hike Trailtrotter! Enjoy your upcoming days of hiking, sounds like good times ahead! :-) tried to view your coyote pic but for some reason it wouldn't show up (maybe because I was viewing on my iphone ... I'll try later from my computer.

We're supposed to get lots of wind today (gusts up to 50 mph or more)... Glad our trees are bare with no snow, but also glad I have a whole house generator just in case we lose power!

Gotta go let the dogs out... Be back later to catch up... Have a great Monday everyone!

Just keep swimming!

Greetings from the land of the bison. ..... While out last thursday I came across an eagle on two occasions, I observed a pair of Harrier hawks fishing, and watched a coyote chase down a rodent on an icy pond. All this in one afternoon. Lucky me. I have 10 days ahead of me, starting tomorrow, and will be hiking and hoping for more scenes such as these.

emoticon Mary! Glad you could swing by in busy times. Life does get that way sometimes, just gotta move along with it!

Maui, I'd think you'd decorate that onesie with peas, since you have them sprouting all over the place! Or gardening stuff...maybe not so "babyish" but it would put the little one on the right path. We got rain off and on all day yesterday, sounds like you did too? My dad is making a pumpkin pie from a pumpkin he grew, I advised him on how to prepare it, and told him to google it, and he'd get lots of recipes, he said he hadn't thought of that! emoticon We're slowly moving dad into the current era!

Wood, I'm sure you're voice will fit right in to the new choir. Have a great Thanksgiving! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I did not get many steps in yesterday (but I did get in a great massage...) so I'll need to step it up today! emoticon better get moving!

Busy! Busy! Busy! Today is our family Thanksgiving celebration! So lot's to do! Picked up Mom and brought her out yesterday. (She'll be here until next Saturday). Starting off the day by getting ready to head to church. Today will be my first time singing with this churches choir. A little bit nervous since this choir is more experienced than the last church choir I belonged to. They sound really good. I have this fear that they won't sound as good with me in it. Doesn't stop me from doing it however!

Have a great day everyone!

Life is good!

Afternoon,

Mary- I know what you mean about catching up with the thread here. Nice to have the comfort of the reliability of this team. Some times busy, like Kay said...it varies...sometimes slow, but always folks who are living a good and full life. Yay...flu shot! Good for you! Busy week ahead for me for sure. Cooking etc...you know, I was telling my hubby about you this morning as we dodged heavenly raindrops and picked peas again for super. :) Yep...they are happy as can be, growing like a weed.

Kay- Yes, hubby did good. It's fun to get surprised. Flowers are opening. Quite pretty. Hey, I looked at that very pie. Aster made one similar a few years back, said it was yummy! Let us know how it works out. I too am browsing pies to make. Pumpkin for sure, but always need another and maybe a cake...we will see.

SD- Ah...very cool about the conference. I read about it last time, and thought it was quite an experience for you. Is there a link to the upcoming conference? You caught up on sleep? Hope so.

Wood- How are you doing? Did you get to spin class? How'd it go? You know Aster's deer season opened today and her hubby got one on their property this morning. They are sure living the life on their farm/property. They too have one awesome wood pile. Tis the season. You know I have never eaten Venison. Not much wild game in my life...closest is Bison, but I doubt it was wild, right? I think they are raised in the great plains like beef cattle.

We found our fist gopher in amongst our raised beds. Dug and set a trap so we will see. No vermin allowed in my garden! Period!
I have a baby shower to attend tomorrow (One of my 4Hers). We are decorating onesies...lol...seems to be a fad these days. So I am trying to figure what I am going to draw on a onesie...lol. Back to my research. :)

Become the change you wish to see in the world.

Good morning deckies! emoticon

I have been reading and really enjoying your posts but my rollercoaster life has been pretty bumpy lately so no time for a proper response...but that doesn't mean I can't say a quick "hello!"

Hopefully I'll have time to fill y'all in on my week soon... no major climbs just some bumps...

Thanks for being here for me to read...thanks to y'all I did go get my flu shot this week!

Have a wonderful weekend!!

Woke up to a stormy, rainy Saturday! emoticon One of those days where it would be nice to hunker down and settle in by the fire with a good book, but we don't have a fireplace, so I guess I'll just hang out on deck by the firepit! Maybe take a ride on "Life" if Wood and Maui will let me up in the front for a turn. emoticon Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

Choc, nice that you got your hot tub fixed, it's no fun having one and not being able to use it!

Maui, happy anniversary! Your DH did a nice job on picking out those flowers, hope they made it through the storm!

SDL, I know what you mean about keeping up on this thread, if I miss too many days, sometimes I just have to start over on catching up! The activity does ebb and flow though, I guess this is a flowing time!

I told my dad I'd be bringing a pecan-bourbon pie I saw on Food and Wine for Thanksgiving, I've never made this one before, hope it turns out. The recipe looked fairly simple, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

And I have a massage today (had to reschedule from last Friday...) looking forward to that!

It can be quite the challenge keeping up with everyone on here. Miss a day and there are 10 posts to catch up on! I love how involved everyone is on here. :-)

Maui, I am indeed still working on that conference. This year it's in Portland, OR so if any of you are in that area, swing on by! Conference is in February over President's Day weekend.

LOVE the name for our coaster! I think as I go through rough patches in life I'll think about our rollercoaster here and all of you amazing people who are willing to ride Life with me. :-)

I got to sleep in until noon today, which was fantastic. I just have a couple clients and then we're going up to the roof (we call it the Penthouse - there's a kitchen up there and some lounge chairs) for our residential Harvest Potluck. Should be fun!

Maui-Happy Anniversary!

Choc-I seem to yank out the knitting when it gets cold as well. When its warm not so much. Working on some warm slippers.

Wood-Great analogy on life and rollercoasters. Its so true.

Well, its been busy here. Classroom parties, award ceremonies, final projects before TG holiday. The black lab we've been watching keeps me exercising though. She consistently reminds me its time to GO. :) Have a great weekend!

Morning all,

'Life'- Perfect! Just as it should be... Thanks again Wood for giving our coaster a prefect name.

I'll take you hand, hop in that front car, (Got your ear plugs?) Keep them handy ok?
Let's go my friend!
Who else is riding with us??

Choc and Kay- Yes, this friend has been a friend to the community, incredible lady. Choc, I'd love to be at her side, holding her hand, singing a song, reading her stories, whatever she needs. But sadly, she was taken to a special cancer clinic for her type of cancer in Southern California, so we cannot be at her side, or supporting her husband and boys. We can send pictures and write messages that they read to her. So every day I write a bit and send virtual hugs (which we know here on the deck, can be very powerful indeed!) But, I do feel a bit like duck out of water with ehr so far away.

Kay- Yes...seems I have had a 'run' lately...just life...it happens. well, what did you decide walk? Ride? Aren't we still getting some showers? No snow for you eh?Icy trails though, no?

Choc- Yay! Hot tub fixed...whew!!!!!!!!!!!!! Need that for winter!

Last night hubby and I celebrated our wedding anniversary and went out to eat! Fun Fun evening! First, the rain moved in as hubby came home early...torrential downpour. It was funny, because he had arrived home with an extraordinary bouquet, one with each of the flowers I carried in my wedding bouquet. What a a sweet man! White roses, white orchids, stephanotis, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephanotis_f
loribunda, and baby's breath. Anyhow...watching him trying to get inside in a mini hurricane was just adorable. Then we were off to supper, yummy dinner at a local favorite place, a glass of wine. Nice. Met this man in 1976...it's been a good run.
Yes...Life is Good!

Wood... I agree with Kay... You really have a way to use words to put life's ups and downs in perspective! And I love the name "life" for our roller coaster (still not sure if I'm brave enough to take a ride... Roller coasters always scared me a bit... Snow, maybe I'll sit in the last car with you and we can help each other "be brave!"

Maui... Sorry about your friend with cancer ... It's such a long hard battle, but I'm thinking having you for a friend will be a big help for her.

We got about 5 inches of snow yesterday, and this morning is one of those bright sunny winter mornings where all the trees and bushes are sparkling with frost and the below zero cold makes the snow "squeak" when you walk in it! (And this weekend is supposed to be the total opposit ... Temps close to 50 and rain... There goes our snow!)

Finally got my hot tub fixed yesterday (poor repairman worked for almost 2 hours out there in the frigid "snow squalls") he did bring a portable heater with him, and claimed he wasn't cold at all when I went out to offer him some hot chocolate or coffee... (I think he was just being brave when he said that!)

Happiness was soaking in my repaired hot tub this morning, sipping on coffee, and watching the deer in the woods as the sun peaked up over the frosty trees! Great way to start the day!

Have a fantastic Friday everyone! Choc :-)

Just keep swimming!

"Life" it is! I like it, Wood, you have such a way with words, What a great analogy, and something to remember when we're stuck on those inclines or swooping around the curves and twists and turns...

Maui, sorry to hear about your friend, you've had a rough time of it lately, but that also means you have a rich life full of friends.... She sounds very special. emoticon

SDL crazy busy! Hope you get(got?) a good nap in (or was that yesterday?)!

We did get a bit of rain last night, not sure how that will treat my trails for the walk in today...I actually managed to "run" in on Wednesday, but my legs were feeling a bit heavy yesterday, so I might not manage that today!

Happy Friday!!!

I think it's interesting that we now have a roller coaster on the deck, because I very often use the analogy of "life is like a roller coaster" and my life certainly is! (I believe that most peoples are!) We certainly have those slow, steep uphills where anxiety builds and things seem to stand still because this is not the part of life where we want to be stuck! (Gloria and I were actually stuck on a roller coaster incline for almost an hour one time! Sitting there facing straight up to heaven and wondering how we they were going to get us off if they didn't get it running again!) But then suddenly we're over the top a life moves so fast that it takes our breath away, turning us upside down, throwing us for loops and at times even sending us backwards to where we've been before but with a different perspective! ....and then suddenly in such a short period of time, it's over! It's a hell of a ride and I love it! Glad I get to share the ride with all of you! So take my hand and let's feel the rush yet once again this morning!

How about if we name the coaster, "Life"?

...and of course, "Life is good!"

Morning deckies!
Whoa...wild rides whenever we want...this coaster is the best!
OK Wood, 'Life' is right. I am thankful we live in a time, you can just go 'get' a new battery, and get back to playing. Sorry you have to get it done again, but VERY glad too.
This bike trauma seems to have really knocked your poor body for a loop. Still sore...yep...healing...takes time...sheesh.

SD- Sounds like your life is VERY full right now. Late nights , full days, family, fun and grad school, right? Very glad you found your way back...lol...keeping up with all the 'modern life., sometimes overwhelming. But ya know...somehow, knowing this gang is here (virtual and all), is reassuring, and gives me hope for this 'ol world. Thanks for keeping us as a part of yours. I was thinking about that conference you were a part of last year, and all the good work that conference sponsored. Is that something you are still active with?On going? And...I am very much a front car gal. Just sayin. Not sure if we have settled on a name, but I must say this is a great way to start the day. Woot!

Kay- well...here comes winter eh? Whew...we finally made it! Was the walk home last night extra cold? I drove up to Woodland yesterday, and it rained the entire way home...YAy, right? LOL...it was a long slow drive home. The 680/24 area was jammed and crawled all the way past 580. Remember when you had to commute back and forth? Soooooo...glad you don't that drive anymore. You heading down to sisters/dads for Tday? Hows the tummy/food? T-Day trickery maybe?

I have been sad a bit this past week, trying to yet again absorb the idea of cancer, with a very good friend. Last Monday i learned my friend has metastatic soft tissue uterine sarcoma. Bleh. She and I worked as partners raising kids, serving on PTSA school boards from 1992-2005. I have never know an individual who cared more or gave more to her local community. You know, this lady just ran for city council and came in 4th (The first 3 will serve). She and I hiked, helped with Local NAMI, and just a great friend. As many of you know, my oldest son has had a hard time and lived back with us for 6 years. Most Fridays, this lady would stop by here to wait for her hubby to get off work. She go know on my son's door, urge him to come out, so she could 'pick his brain'. She gave him hope, bu valuing him. Special eh? So..in June she was in an election, this week she is fighting for her life in ICU. Life. She calls me 'Mrs Muir' and 'Mother Earth'...sweet lady. Salt of the earth. Raised 4 boys...lol...a saint for sure. hehe.

OK...There are many things to get done! I am off, but will be back!

Become the change you wish to see in the world.

WE HAVE A ROLLERCOASTER!!!!! Thank you to our amazing handy people! Does it have a name, yet? I am SO going on a ride! I can never decide whether I like the front or back cars better. I love the suspense in the front car, but the back car gets the whips. I guess I'll just have to ride it multiple times! emoticon

So I was wondering why I hadn't received any emails for this thread in a while and as I went through my email today I found one that I hadn't responded to! I've done a solid job in the last month or so of unsubscribing to all the junk mail I've collected over the years, but I still have a lot of other emails that like to bury one another. So I'm glad I found it and am back!

Things are going well for me. Just tired. I've been out too late too many nights this week. I normally set a midnight curfew but last night I didn't get home until after 1 AM - and I have a 10-hour shift today. Told the bf that since he kept me out so late, I'm spending my lunch hour sleeping instead of eating with him. I have a sleepy headache. No fun. I'm drinking coffee and taking moments to just close my eyes at my desk. First client isn't for another hour, so I've got time to get it together.

Supposed to go see Lauryn Hill tonight, which makes a nap all that much more important. Fortunately I don't have to be in to work until 1 tomorrow, so I can get some solid sleep once I make it through today/tonight.

Wood, glad you're getting that pacemaker replaced. We need you here on deck! Hopefully you're mostly healed from your bicycle accident before the surgery. How is that coming along? I remember you saying you were able to dance. Have you been hunting, or just "shooting"?

Have a great day, everyone!

Good morning OP!

Nice start to the day here. First of all, it's a little warmer - all the way up to 26 this morning! Was out in the hot tub for first light and the early morning light had a mesmerizing effect on the heavy rolling clouds. I felt almost a childlike wonder watching them roll overhead. Then from my view from my dining room table we were treated to a very unusual visual illusion on the mountain we gaze out at. Apparently the rising sun was peeking through the clouds as it rose over our mountain and at lit up the top 3rd of the mountain in a brilliant red! It was gorgeous, but by the time I got my camera, the opportunity was gone. A little while later, Glor says chat are those two big birds sweeping down between the mountains. Turned out to be two magnificent mature bald eagles who were cooperative enough to land in a tree directly in front of us! Beautiful!!!! Like I said, nice start to the day!

Kay, sorry but you look wonderful in your new profile pic but it does not show off your new hairstyle. You're still going to have to supply us with a pic that allows us to see the full effects of the new cut!

Yes Maui, I was awfully glad to have remembered to my ear plugs! You've got a great set of lungs on you Girl! It was a great ride though wasn't it?

....and Snow, now it's your turn to ride in the front! I always felt the back seat was actually the roughest place to ride. Actually, it's a great ride no matter which seat you're in.

Choc - Time to get off that couch and get out there for a walk!

Mary - Trust me! Gloria would love to show you her quilts. Just stop in anytime! She really does beautiful creations!

Had a surprise yesterday. Went for my pacemaker check. Last time I was there, everything was still good. Yesterday, I was told we need to replace it, soon! Looks like I'm back in the OR in the first week of December. Just as my ribs are healing on the right side of my chest, we'll make the left side of my chest hurt for a while! As Maui would say, "Life".

Have a great day!

Well... Here in Michigan we've "warmed up" to a balmy 9 degrees (windchill... Actual temp is a toasty 19 degrees)... Both dogs snoring away on the couches, I'm knitting wool socks for Christmas presents (10 pair done so far) ... I think this is already turning into a "couch potato kind of day!)

Not sure if you can tell, but I did have my new style in my new profile pic (I think I had pulled it back though, so probably isn't really evident. If I get a new pic, I'll certainly post it!

Snow, how'd you like the ride from the back car? Hope it wasn't too rattly...I think we tired to make it fun, but not too joint-jarring!

I'm walking in today, so I have to go get bundled up for that! We're not quite a bone-chilling cold as some of you folks, but it's still frosty out there!

Good to see you back on the deck Carole! Yeah, it looks like it's going to be an early start to winter here too. And we moved into it just like you did. Last Tuesday it was 70. This morning it is 16! However, at least the wind settled down.

Hercules is one of those wooden coasters that rattles your teeth and tears at your joints. I think at this stage of the game I prefer the smoother rides that twist and turn and the G"s make your cheeks touch the back of your neck!

Snow - You? A girlie girl? Really? You're going to have to take me back to the treestand. You camouflaged it so well I couldn't find it. I'm sure those leopard throws will certainly inspire some wild thinking!

Okay Kay, I think we need a new pic with the new hairstyle!

Everybody jump on for an early morning thrill ride!

Life is good!

Hello all! I haven't been on in awhile but I'm back. :) Its been bitter cold in Colorado but it is starting to warm up. Yay! I don't mind the snow and cold but going from 70 degrees to -5 in 1 day was a bit much. ;P

My son is a roller coaster fanatic. He did his energy fair project on roller coasters and created his own out of a clear plastic tube and box. He had fun researching the fastest, tallest, most loops etc. His favorite coaster at the moment is Twister 2 at Elitches. An old wooden roller coaster. The kind that makes your teeth rattle. They are fun. I went on the mind eraser this summer. It was weird having my legs just dangle but they have you so locked in you aren't going anywhere. It was fun. Hubby and son won't do the loop roller coasters which I love. Maybe when my son is older he'll like them. He's 9 now. We are going to Florida for Christmas and I'm so looking forward to space mountain. I haven't been on it since I was a kid!

Everyone staying warm?

Carole

emoticon Good morning OP.... considering Im pretty "girlie" Wood, I am one of the ones who has spent a few hours up in the deer stand!! In fact... while others used their sweat and tears to construct that roller coaster.... I was making a "deer stand" out of the way a bit for you for when you get a sudden "urge" to just sit and think, listening to the chatter, laughter, and screaming from the coaster, the deck, and the pool areas. I figured today was a good unveiling day for that... so go peek at it and tell me what you think- hope that the leopard blanket throws aren't too much emoticon

I am braving my first ride on "Hurcules II" or whatever name we vote for..... kind of shakey about it-- Maui, Choc, Kay.... and anyone else want to go with me, I don't want to be in the first car... so not to worry about that.... we do have seat belts right?

emoticon OK.... better do it now before I chicken out..... just sayin".... I wont hurl tho- not to worry emoticon

Good morning!

Snow, I got a pretty good trim, no highlights other than what mother nature has put in there naturally, I'm about just below shoulder length now, it's so much easier, and not so much hair clogging up the drain! Good luck working your list! Hope the soreness doesn't get any worse, and enjoy your hikes!

Mary, enjoy the warm temps! We've been cold here (not Choc cold, but cold...) and I wouldn't mind if the sun came out and warmed us up a bit!

Wood, glad you enjoyed the coaster! I think we'll all be fighting over the front row, and anytime you want a ride I'll join you! As to naming the beast.....we need to gather the creative minds of the deck and come up with something great! "Wood's Wilderness Wagontrain?" Too big a mouthfull I think...I'll keep my thinking cap on...

Choc, I try to stay out of the hot tub when it's really cold (and windy) out! I think I need a tunnel to the tub, and our gazebo needs repair to keep the wind out!

Well, still need to get to work today, I'm hitting the gym after, so need to get ready for that! Have a great one everybody!

NO WAY!!!! Our own wooden roller coaster! There have been many times in the past that I've returned from trips where I've come home to major additions to the deck (the treehouse being perhaps the biggest) but you guys have totally outdone yourself with this one!!! As you know, I love roller coasters! (Okay, let's face it I love just about anything (including people) that are thrilling!) The new high tech coasters with their loops and twists and super high speeds get the adrenaline pumping but the old wooden coasters with the chattering and the shaking and the turns that throw you into the person you're riding with....well they're just still really special! When I was still in college I took a girl on my first date with her on one of the best wooden coasters in Pennsylvania, Hercules. Didn't turn out to be one of my better first dates...lol...she ended up sick from the ride and thought we should go home. I had a brand new Dodge Charger that I was in love with. Yep! You guessed it! She got really sick! Threw up right onto the dash board which isn't cool at all because from there the liquid went right down into the defroster! I had to disassemble the entire dashboard to clean up the mess. Took me two days and the smell still persisted for a long time! Not a good start to a relationship!!!!

Now that being said....who wants to ride with me on this one? Have you named this coaster yet?

We (my son, my almost-a-son and myself) had a good hunt this week. Ryan, my almost-a-son, shot the only buck but it was a beauty! I didn't have anything close, but I'm okay with that. Every outdoor person should have the opportunity to spend extended time in a treestand. Lot's of time to ponder, to observe, to sharpen all of one's senses. One of my biggest thrills of the week was to the opportunity to watch a very large bobcat hunt mice! Cats are amazing hunters! So quiet! So precise with each movement! So patient! Very cool in deed!

Kay - sorry to hear that you're still sore, but let me tell you, you're not the only one! These ribs and shoulder are taking their good old time in healing as well!!!!

Got to go for now, but will be back later.

Life is good!

WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! What an amazing ride! Love the coaster!!!! I'm so impressed by all the craftmanship! I am always amazed by such skill and precision! (Craftmanship with a needle and thread amazes me as well as that as another skill that I am sorely lacking! I would love to see Gloria's quilts!)

In the 70s today - supposed to get down to low 30s or high 20s tonight - Crazy!

I'll see you around the fire tonight! Can't wait to see the coaster in lights!

Pura Vida!

emoticon Mornin' deckies.... sun shining...70 degrees again today, hike first thing, then a lot of "shoveling" to do. Im hoping the hike loosens me up after yesterdays wheelbareling and scooping tons of eucalyptus wood chips and mulch throughout the yard. I cant believe how much my son dropped off on the driveway (he is an arborist and has to unload that chipper thru out the day- one less expence that's for sure! All the free wood chips or mulch you could ever want emoticon
I woke up with no voice today tho, I think all the landscaping I was doing simultaneously while spreading a 6 inch layer had me taking in a lot of pollen from the trimmings and weeding. When I can say something... I sound like a man! (or a seductive prostitute!!) LOL!

Anyway, I do not ache as much as I would have thought I was going to-- DH however did way too much helping and is in some misery with that surgical arm.... he hasn't been shoveling in a long time, and favoring one arm is never good- he is hurting big time. I have a huge list of " to-do's" its more than I can accomplish in 2 more days off, but atleast I have the list and can just work on it bit by bit. Short hike is my way of starting the momentum. I have 4 huge piles yet to get to and a little less than a third of an acre to cover left.... wish me luck to put a dent in it today again. emoticon Feeling quite "buck!"

Hello to everyone, of course Ive kept up the posts daily, I got my flu shot in Sept- but thanks for reminding me to get my hubby down to get his now too!
Did you get a trim Kay, some highlights perhaps.... is your hair still really long? I had my DH cut 5 inches off my blonde locks, it was looking pretty scraggly, wearing it in a French braid or up in a bun kept my split ends hidden. Did I ever share that I hate getting hair cuts?! I get almost physically ill , I don't rrust anyone but DH - and he isn't NOT a hairdresser! I taught him well tho, and he gets a big kick out of it.

Hope you are keeping bundled up and warm Choc- is the hot tub fixed yet? emoticon

You back home now Wood? emoticon Did you guys get more deer after that one buck?

Hiking buddy ready, sorry I cant say something to everyone, but I will say Hello Maui! See you tomorrow for our hike in the hills!

Yep, I got my flu shot, Maui! First day back from vacation and I signed right up. It's so convenient to have them at work, they put the cart right by the front door....

The soreness is better, and my headache subsided yesterday morning. I got my hair done, and before that visited my trainers other gym, really nice place, it looks like it will be fun to work out there, lots of different toys and super-fit people working out there. Should be inspirational!

We got a misting last night, and it's cloudy today, and got really cold last night, I've been bundled up in my warmest sweatshirt for a week now! Hope that means we'll get some real snow soon! They are making snow at some of the ski areas, but, like Choc, I'm waiting for the XC to start!

Maui... Bitter cold here... Been that way all last week and supposed to get even colder this week...(so both my dogs are curled up & snoring away on the couches as I type this)
... No snow here yet, but the upper half of Michigan has lots if the white stuff and some of the ski areas around here have "made snow" and are opening this week (I'll wait for cross country skiing)... In spite of the cold though, I'm hoping to get out for a hike later this morning (it's deer hunting season here so my hikes are limited to the back roads so I don't mess up anyone's hunt... Just heard a gunshot nearby as I'm typing this... One of my neighbors must have just gotten lucky)

I also got a shingles shot (kept seeing all those scary commercials about shingles on TV and decided I definitely didn't want to deal with that).... Have never gotten a flu shot, and probably won't get it this year either (I know, I know, lots of pros and cons about whether to get it or not... Guess everyone has to make their own choice on that, LOL)

My hot tub has some major mechanical problems with the pump that circulates. & heats the water (only works if I run outside twice a day to turn it on manually)... The good news is, I hope to get it repaired this week... The bad news is, the repair is going to cost "big bucks" :-( sigh

Bonfire tonight sounds awesome! I'll bring some hot cider to share with everyone.

Just keep swimming!

Never give up!

Kay- Oh gosh, sounds like your body is rebelling for sure...water...always a great first step.
I think the water cure assists regardless of the problem.
Great that Larry's talk went so well. LOL...it's like when my son gives presentations...similar...I really enjoy his power point, posters, and graphs...lol. I do appreciate the skill these guys have with processing such complex info. Good job Larry!
Hope you feel better. You did get your flu shot, yes? Seems there are lots of bugs already starting.
On that kinda note...i took hubby down to get his flu shot at our pharmacy Thursday. Success! and...pharmacist checked our insurance again...and we could get the shingles vaccine for free...so we did! Both of us! Anyhow...hopefully it works to shield us from the Shingles!

Mary- I thought of you today as I picked more shelling peas. They are just so yummy. If you were next door, I could run some over. ;)

Wood- you back yet??? It's awfully cold to be waiting in a tree...well...at least too cold for me.
How do you like the coaster surprise we built while you were gone? SD had gone with for a play day and gave us the idea. :)

I am cold! hehe...I know silly to even mention it, since we are likely warmer than everyone else. Turned the heat on just a few minutes ago...first time this season. Wish I could build a fire...so I will on the deck! Bon fire night! Let's warm up, OK?
And maybe pour some Brandy or wine...whatever is your pleasure.
Who wants to join me?

Wow, what a ride....Maui you sure know how to sum it up! That coaster is a thing of beauty, a thrill ride, and a work of art, blood, sweat and tears (or fears?)!

I'm feeling the effects of Iain's workout, started yesterday while I was at the talk Larry had arranged. He was afraid it would not be well attended, but it was standing room only! Heavy on the engineering, so I did not grasp much of what was talked about, but I did enjoy looking a the diagrams...But about halfway through I noticed I was becoming very sore, triceps, chest,a little in the shoulders. And got a bit of a headache too, maybe not enough water. I ended up walking home right after the talk, and just tried to lay down and rest (after some gentle yoga and soothing meditation). Woke up with still a slight headache....hope it goes away soon!

What an amazing sight and sound! The coaster is operational. The team effort extraordinary and perfect as ever!

Mary the food and tunes were just what we needed to keep us sustained in spirit and energy resource.

Kay- your leadership, planning, coordination made this possible. I never had any doubts we could make this happen, with you on board.

Dan- Hearing you drive up with a team of earth movers and all the equipment needed to prepare the foundation...Have you ever seen a group of happier smiles?

Snow and Mary- the painting and decorating...perfect! Love the colors...happy , natural and fit the team so well. Some of my favorite flowers. And all coordinated by how high they are on the ride. High elevation flowers up top...hehe...of course.

Brenda- I love how you and hubby stopped by to help! I knew you were a woman of many talents...I knew you had rhythm cause of the tuba , choir and all...but 'man' can you ever swing a hammer!

Kits- haha...clever you, not afraid of heights! Up there on the top most rail with your hubby working on the electrical finalizing. Very cool!

Kelpie- Well, I am so not surprised you stopped by to help Mary feed us. French cheeses, wine and chocolates...hahaha...of course!

SD- OK...from the very beginning your strength of body, mind and spirit has impressed me. But...do you ever sleep? Wow...woman...you can work! Thank you! Having you by my side as we lifted rails into place...you are crazy strong!

Choc- I knew we could do this, right? You had some very cool ideas for the cars! Mountains of all kinds from tropics to alps...hehe...so depending upon our mood right???

Cassie- well...you can just run circles around us while you worked. A virtual energy bunny eh? Where did you learn to a handle table saw like that?

Morti stopped by to take some photos for us...very cool eh?

And so many others' of you...wow! Drills, Cables, iron work and our Coaster is ready to ride!

Whose going on the first ride???
Wood- what do you think of our new toy? While the test run were going...it rattles just perfectly. I Love the sound it makes... Oh...we borrow some of your wood shop tools while you were gone hunting...hehe...Luv said we could. ;)

Kay- I hope Lain was easy enough on you...so you can still enjoy a ride.

Wat shall we name our new Roller Coaster?

emoticon Great tunes you've got going there for the coaster crew, Mary! I think we may be doing more dancing than building! emoticon We sure could use Dan and his heavy equipment for this one! emoticon

It's a bit rainy this morning, just started to hear the pitter patter on the windows....so I'm glad I'm not walking in today! It's my training day....hope Iain doesn't beat me up too badly!

I was quite irritable at work yesterday, too many phone calls! And about half the time I have to route them to someone else....the other half are recruiters either trying to sell us something or trying to poach my staff (not that I have any staff left to poach!) I just hate the interruption when I'm in the flow....need to remember to breathe and let it go!

I'll help everybody out by staying out of the way emoticon ! Carpentry is not my forte! It would take y'all twice the time to build if I tried to help because you'd have to come behind me and tear out my work and redo it! (Better that I admit my short-comings than make a mess of things!)

How about I set up a chow tent and man that! I'll make sure there are always healthy, tasty foods and bevs for you to enjoy during break times! And I can be DJ and keep happy tunes playing through the sound system so you can whistle and sing and dance while you work!

When it comes time to paint I'm your girl so I'll put in my hard labor then!

Evening,

Kay- LOL...management never ceases to amaze me. Good thing you can leave and go outside! And I remember when you were really short staffed. Hopefully this new employee can help out!

SD- yay...wooden coaster it is! You know, here on the deck...we have all shills necessary. What do you think we get it all built while Wood is gone and surprise him??? I bet we ladies would make one damn good construction team. What do you think??

Wine? Fire? A couple of my favorite 'things'. Why yes...I'll join you!

Sounds like a great day all around! Kiddo and I had a blast. Had caricatures made and I look like Condoleezza Rice, haha! I really dig em though. Kiddo is back to school tomorrow but tomorrow is my regular day off, so I'll spend it volunteering in the morning, hanging out with kiddo in the afternoon, and class in the evening. Kiddo (10, I just remembered someone asked) has a dance performance before I head to class so I'm looking forward to attending that tomorrow. :-)

I am totally down for a wooden coaster! Who are our handy people on deck? How long before this thing is up and running? In the meantime, I'm going to lounge by the bonfire with a bottle of wine. Anyone care to join me?

A great day is being had! By the time I left work it was pretty much a ghost town....everyone else either took the whole day off, or came in earlier than I did, and were gone. Found out we got a new employee the other day, and we were not told (no reason Corporate should tell leadership in a department when they are getting new employees, right?) I'm glad I found out before her paperwork is due!

Enjoyed a nice walk to and from work though, it's nice weather right now, not too hot, not too cold, can't beat it!

Mary... Nope, all that snow is in Michigan's upper peninsula and the northern parts of the "mitten".... I'm down in the middle of the. "Thumb" (gotta love the shape of Michigan when it comes to describing locations, LOL)
We might get a light dusting of snow here and definitely will be really cold over the next few days.... Right now it's almost 60, but that goes away tonight! Time to unpack the winter clothes!

Wood... Glad your "test run" on climbing into your deer stand went well... Take care of yourself, have fun and good luck on the hunt!

Morning,

Wood- OK...you can do this climbing...good good. :) Just listen to the 'ol body, pace yourself. The 'test run' was probably a good idea. How cold will it be? Hope you enjoy card night...lol...
You too have a good week!
Now you remind me, I think you've told me about this friend with Parkinson's. My BIL has it too...I wonder about toxins and if they are a contributing cause. BIL flew in Vietnam AF...and my friend lived in the central valley CA and was probably down wind of much pesticide/herbicide. When you see the planes fly...its crazy concerning. But yes, hard for these folks who suffer.

Kay- Yep...Beautiful weekend for the 'high' country. I doubt I will ever understand my love of granite, cool air and warm sun. The smell of 10,000 ft is maybe my favorite. We did some trail and some cross country...fun fun.
OK...Love the idea of around Ben Frien, and an old wooden ride like the Giant Dipper in Santa Cruz. It is still the same old coaster. Great sound. Great ride! Maybe we can call it "All Hands on Deck"!

Still here. Leaving this afternoon. Tonight, cards. Tomorrow, hunt. I went out hunting last night, here at home. Mostly for two reasons: needed to retrieve my climbing stand that was chained to a tree and secondly because I wanted to see if my shoulder and ribs would allow me to climb. They protested, but I can do it.

Maui, its my friend with Parkison's that owns the property that I'll be huting on. So I know a little how you feel.

Computer is acting weird. Hope I can send this.

Have a great week everyone!

Life is good!

I imagine either one of those big framed wooden roller coasters like the one on the boardwalk at Santa Cruz, or in and around Ben Frein, like the Matterhorn at Disneyland (although it's been awhile since I've seen either one, they may both have changed dramatically since I was there!)

Maui, Desolation, nice! We hiked up to Donner peak on Sunday and there was snow on the ground in spots, but mostly melted off. They are making snow at some of the ski areas, and we did see folks hitting the slopes at Boreal....

I'd better get moving, I'm only working a half day today, but really don't want to get in too late!

Evening all!

I have also , returned yet again. Hubby and I took off for the mountains again...I drove us back down by noon, so hubby could head off to work.
We Hiked up in a granite area called Desolation Valley, south of Lake Tahoe. Yes...more pics...hehe. We were both super tired last night...haha...good good.
On the drive up, we stopped by to see a good friend I have known since 1963. she and I started camping together with each others' families by 4th grade. Many of you know I talk about 'My Mountain'. She and I hiked there the first time in 1964. She now has Parkinson's and her future is very uncertain. But our visit ...special.

Kay-Ghost Hunting...audit...yep...you half day off sounds like a good plan! So...we saw snow up there in the Carson Pass area. Not much in the Tahoe Basin. How about your area? Has it all melted??

Choc- That buck sounds like quite a site. Nice he stops by. :) I was thinking about you this weekend. Last I remember...your knees don't hurt on the down hill anymore...correct? My right knee says 'hello' if I have to do any serious downhill..like steep or major elevation change. I am so happy for you, that you have new knees! It was a warm beautiful weekend out west here. Up in teh mountains it should be much cooler, but nope...sunny beautiful day. I'll be posting a couple pics on fb soon.

Wood- Seems I missed you. Not sure you are going to read this before you head off to the hunting trip. But like the other gals mentioned...hope you keep healing. The dancing sounds like it was super fun...but sheesh...still achy...be good and heal well! Hehe...i like how Choc is assuming you are safer in the blind...should be safer...But I hope the sleeping gets easier. Sleep is when we heal. Take care my friend. Enjoy your trip.

Mary- You are so right about Kay and her planning. She has always been an inspiration. Always setting goals and resetting goals when necessary. There is a reason she is so fit. Mary, my garden is doing great! As soon as I got home, had to run out and say hello. Since its organic, and I have so many cruciferous veggies, I have to fight off cabbage moths, therefore search for cabbage worms! Yes...I found some! But all is well! And...yes...we will be eating peas teh next few weeks. They are very happy plants...cool nights and warm days. Perfect. Today I picked a big bowl of lettuce and spinach for supper.Yum.
You know I love Thai food...your soup sounds really yummy if hubby thinks he likes it more than Moussaka! Moussaka is hard to beat! Did you get any ?

SD- 6 Flags...hehe...Roller Coasters...Love it! You know...with all we have built here on the deck, I cannot believe we have never built our own roller coaster! Sounds like a great day.

Snow- glad we caught up a bit earlier...whew...Yes...your friend is really lucky to have you a part of her team.

OK...what do you all think??? A roller coaster??? Yes???
I want one...hehe...
And a theme for the ride....and where should be build it???

Mary, I'll join you ...hammocks, blankets...dancing fire...prefect.

Just popping in for a quick "Hey!" emoticon

SDL enjoy the rollercoaster bonding! Sounds like fun!

Snow, thanks for the goodie, it made me smile! emoticon

Mary, your soup sounds great, hope your DH left you some! emoticon

Choc, hope that buck pauses for his "close-up" soon! And then skedaddles into the deep woods...nice that you are still getting out and having some nicer weather.

I'm not taking Friday off, we're having "ghost hunting" at work and I had signed up to work it already! (That's what they call the payroll audit they've been doing the past couple of years) And then administration wants all the non-Clinical departments to take tomorrow off (nothing like giving us advance notice...) so I decided to take a half day tomorrow, and the other half on Friday! emoticon

Mary... No photo ops yet on the buck.., have the camera ready & hoping I'll see him before Saturday (that's when deer hunting season starts... He's definitely going to be a prize target for some lucky hunter unless he's smart enough to stay hidden deep in the woods!)

I did see two smaller bucks while I was out hiking today (4 1/2 "slow poke" miles, LOL) also had a doe jump right in front of my car later in the day... Luckily I was on a bumpy dirt road so was driving pretty slow when she ran in front of me!.... Once deer season starts all the deer will be "on the run" (and my hikes will be limited to the back roads so I don't scare the deer away from anyone's tree stand or deer blind...Plus I'll be wearing blaze orange "just to be safe")

Temps were pretty balmy here for November ... High 50's.... But we're supposed to be in the low 30's to mid 20's by end of the week (snowed in the upper peninsula, but only a few flurries here so far)

Wood... Enjoy your hunting week...(being up high in a tree stand out in the woods is definitely safer than taking a tumble off your bike in traffic! Hope you're feeling better!

Snow... You are awesome for being there for your friend with cancer... The kind of support you are giving her means a lot in coping with and recovering from cancer (having been through cancer twice myself, & remembering the beautiful prayer shawl that Luv made for me and all the wonderful supportive letters from all my friends here on "the deck"... I can testify to what a huge emotional boost that gives and how much it means to anyone battling cancer or any other life changing issue)

Just keep swimming!

Never give up!

Hey y'all! 3 overcast but pleasant days in a row here...some nice rain last night...great walking and soup-eating weather...made a yummy Thai-inspired chicken soup in the crockpot yesterday...my husband might like it more than moussaka...he says it's all for him and I'm not allowed to eat any more! emoticon That's not happening! emoticon

Choc - Any luck "shooting" that buck? There's been a huge Great Blue Heron hanging out on my little dock...I've been trying to sneak up on him (assuming "him" because of size but could be a "her") for a picture but no luck yet...

Wood - Happy Hunting! Great to hear that you enjoyed dancing after all!

Kay - Sounds like your doing a great job planning your week! It's important isn't it! Otherwise our weeks fly by without goals being accomplished.

SD - 6 flags! What fun! How old is your kiddo?

Snow - emoticon to your dad! My mom was also born in 1927 - her birthday is 7/27/27 - pretty cool! She too is amazing! So great of you to be there to offer much needed support for your friend!

Maui - Hope all is going well in your garden! Harvested any peas yet? emoticon

Hope you all have a wonderful evening! Think I'll grab a warm blanket and hang out in the hammock after dinner gazing at the waning moon and the dancing flames of the fire pit!

Pura vida!

Mary

Snow, you are such an amazing friend to be so supportive during this time. I know her and her husband and family really appreciate you.

Wood, I'm so glad you got to go dancing! For 4 hours, no less! It's always comforting when we discover our injuries aren't quite as debilitating than we thought. Just be careful not to go too hard too fast. Would hate to hear you re-injured yourself!

Kay, sounds like a nice week you have planned! Go get it!

I had a pretty chill weekend. Didn't get quite as much housework done on Sunday as I would have liked, but still got some, so that's fine. Kiddo and I both have tomorrow off, so we're going to head to Six Flags for some rollercoaster bonding. Guest speaker for half of class on Wednesday means I have that much less time to write into my lesson plan, so I'm happy for that. Overall just a chill week lined up! Let's hope no crises come my way, lol.

Have a great day/week!

Hey Snow! Welcome back to the deck, sounds like you had an eventful week, full of meaning, love and family. Sounds like you made a good intermediate step for your friend, nice that she can try out a new look before giving up all her hair, will the wig be done before you go "all the way"?

Wood, glad you enjoyed the dance lessons, and weren't as bad off as you thought with the injury. Sometimes moving through the soreness makes if feel a little better, loosens it up in a way. Enjoy your hunt too!

It's Monday, back to work! Gotta work out my plans for the week, when to walk in, when to hit the gym......maybe take off on Friday! I have a massage scheduled and Larry has arranged for a speaker at the university, I think he'd like my moral support there! We'll see...

Welcome back Snow! 87 is quite an accomplishment all by itself but if you can reach that age and still be in great shape physically and mentally, it puts you in a very exclusive category of individuals. Seems to me that he may have passed those genes down to you!

Turns out that we went to the Couple's Dance Workshop. 4 hours of dance lessons followed by a really nice dinner, followed by a dance. My body did much better with it than I feared it would. Got through all the lessons without too much discomfort and had a lot of fun, but was a little too sore to dance after the meal. Hardest part seems to be sleeping! Too much weight on the tender spots! But life goes on!

Better get that sick hot tub fixed before the cold really sets in Choc! Always something demanding our attention (and our money)! Get a picture of that big boy before the hunter gets a shot at him! They are fun to watch right now with the rut in full swing! Nature sure makes males dumb when there's women around!!! LOL!

Gotta pack up today for my hunting trip that starts tomorrow! Don't know yet if I'll be able to use my bow or if I settle for camera shots or maybe I'll switch totally to hunting wild turkey with a rifle. I'll use a low caliber gun with minimum kick to the shoulder!

I don't have any wifi up there so no "Deck" for the week, but for those of you who I have phone numbers for I'll still be texting from my tree stands! Maybe that's why I don't shoot as many deer as I used to.

Have fun!

Wood

Twas a beautiful day here today, I have watched my son trimming trees like a professional that he is, chopping wood, cleaning up each mess before moving on to the next project, lawns done, mulch in driveway, partially spread some around the yard today, its eucalyptus so it smells wonderful!

I cut my girlfriends hair, but we went to shoulder, neither of us was quite ready to go bald yet, might have a week left to enjoy a chin length bob that she would have never tried anyway. We are more prepared, this is the usual and best way for women with butt length hair, its more like an appendage of their body emoticon , like having an "arm trim"!! Anyway, she just texted that her family likes it a lot, her husband was wanting to come with her, he is terrified of her losing all this hair..... but he is accepting it...maybe she did the half way for him. Yeh, probably.

Ok...off to dad's party...... ***SNOW*** emoticon
