Late Happy Tuesday to you all.

Choc, so glad about your house and the accepted offer on the new place. I sure understand that the change is emotionally huge though...

Wood, your Canada family trip sounds wonderful.

Kay, I hope Larry is doing better.

As far as thing go for me, the garden or farm or whatever it is is eating our lives though it's also feeding us pretty well. This is just what we get for building our retirement home while were still working in town while we're in our 40's. We need to find some time away again soon, but in late June and early July did manage to get in a day each two different weekends of 16 and 17 mile paddles on the Wisconsin River. In a couple of weeks, hubs is leaving me to go up to his parents' for a weekend. I don't have to go, but I'm hoping either the morning that he leaves, or the night before, he can help me leave a car at a downstream landing and drop me in some miles upstream. It won't be like a few years ago when we each solo paddled 80+ miles, but it will be good to be out for a day and a night solo.

Happy Tuesday Deckies!

OK..so here we are August 4...month slipping buy already!

Choc- How's your packing coming along? I keep thinking about how exciting this all is for you.
:)

Mary- Excellent you, as a volunteering mom, now have no lines to stand in. And 2 walks yesterday, fresh air...yep. I think, I have always felt better after a trip outside...no matter what the weather.

Reso- Sending healing energy for SIL. Glad to hear you feel like you are drying out a bit. No gills yet eh? Your kayak trip sounds lovely...water lilies, fragrance...so nice. I used to live in MN and we had a summer place on a lake up north. It was a lake in a chain of lakes, you could go through narrow inlets from lake to lake on the pontoon. Often in the in between places there were carpets of water lilies...so beautiful. Thanks for the memory jog.

KAy- OK...you should be half way through your short week now! Whew! And hows that patient of yours? And how you you holding up my friend. What a year! I forget...when was his bike accident when this all started? Gosh...sending you extra hugs today my friend.

Sleep- yep...so important...the best place to start any journey to better health. I have been sleeping quite well the past week. Its silly really...I think my eye fatigue is helping. By the time 9:30 rolls around...it's impossible for me to keep my eyes open...lol...
Wood- I hear you...I too am a super light sleeper. I hear EVERYTHING! haha...remember the rooster in Kauai?
Anyhow...hope everyone keeps sleep a high priority.

OK...a little progress on 2 big 'fronts' for me today.
1- Had an arbourist out today to evaluate my trees. Looks like 4 need to be removed. Next step is submit his report to teh city for a permit. Sad sad sad.
But such is life...time to make lemonade...if this actually happens, we will get a ton of mulch. and...we can then put up solar. Costly and costly...but maybe good in the long run. And then plant a smaller decorative, drought tolerant tree out front. But man, talk about changing the landscape of my front...whoa. Lots of emotional here.

2. My eyes...went to eye doc again. OK.surgical eye great.
Looks like we will try again something new...Single focal Contact in non surgical eye ,
Glasses over both eyes for progressive and astigmatism...so I can hike, walk, cook, read, garden, computer at will...lol.
This sounds OK to me...cause what I need to to see and go about my business without all this monkey business. Yay!
Another few weeks...of 'processing'.

OK...what for supper? I am making BBQ flank steak, on a bed of bean mash, green beans with mint and parsley salsa, fresh tomatoes in balsamic...I am hungry! I made a ton...help your selves. There is plenty. I will even raid the wine cellar for some cab and zin...
I'm pouring...what's your pleasure?

Become the change you wish to see in the world.

Happy Monday everyone!

Welcome back Wood! Trip sounds perfect! As does your upcoming weekend! Hope you get a little caught up while you're home...

Reso...sure hope your SIL is ok! Kayak trip and Axe Island music - excellent!

A natural fireworks show for you Kay! How nice! I can appreciate your joy at one sunflower...my garden suffered while I was away...I'm a little discouraged about my fall prospects right now but will start some more seeds tomorrow and hope for the best!

Spent most of today doing school volunteer work...nice surprise is that while I was volunteering at registration day for seniors I found out that they were letting parents who were volunteering register today even if their children are not seniors...so I was able to register son today instead of standing in long lines early tomorrow morning to make sure he got a good parking space!

Heading out now for a late afternoon walk emoticon only a short walk this morning so I'm looking forward to the fresh air!

Have a wonderful evening!

Pura Vida!
Mary

Crazy days last week. We finally are having some dry weather so everyone is trying to catch up on the weeks of work we missed during what seemed like monsoon season. SIL went into hospital, drs not sure what caused a severe infection, brain swelling and seizures.

On the good side, we went kayaking Saturday. The water lillies were blooming and the fragrance down on the water was incredible. Also, we went to Axe Island to play music again. Lovely to jam there under ancient trees, watching the river roll by. Wood, I requested I'll Fly Away in your honor!

I'm excited about a new month. July kind of got away from me and I didn't get much done. I hope to do better this month.

Strive for peace, hope and perseverance.

Be an ordinary person doing extraordinary things!!!

Sleep? First of all, I'm the world's lightest sleeper. Everything wakes me up! I have motion detector lighting around the exterior of my property. If a light goes on, I wake up. However, USUALLY I go back to sleep fairly easily. Unless of course, I'm overthinking something in the middle of the night and then there's no such thing as sleep! I agree, exercise has a profound effect on the quality of sleep. This is a topic that Maui and i have discussed to great ends!

So I'm back for a couple of days then off for a camping/wedding weekend with friends. They're dancer friends of ours and we'll be camping as a group Friday night, wedding Saturday, camping/dancing that evening and then they're off to their honeymoon.

Our family Ontario trip was amazing! Great new house rental - beautiful huge log house on a very quiet part of the lake. Terrific weather all week, so lot's of swimming and water sports. Game night every night! Simply perfect!

Now however, I'm behind in everything! Garden. Flower beds. Wood cutting. Yardwork. Photography. Trying to fit a gallon into a 2 quart container!

Still - Life is good!

Yep, exercise does help, I think cooler weather (especially cool evening breezes) makes a big difference as well...we've had to turn on the AC again the past couple of nights, but we've also been getting cool mornings and can open the house back up again!

Mother Nature treated us to an interesting lightening show last night. Couldn't really hear any thunder, but the sky kept lighting up periodically...almost never when I was looking at it directly, so my peripheral vision was treated to the show!

I may try to get out for a walk today, it's overcast here as well, so may be the time for it!

Oh, and one of my sunflowers is actually blooming! It's very small, but I'm happy I got one anyway!

Yep...sleep is a very big piece of the puzzle of life! Another benefit of exercise and good nutrition...helps with the sleeping (most of the time - sometimes stress/excitement just keep the brain from relaxing!)

Choc - so excited for you!

Maui - excited for you and Leilani too! That's a step I can't imagine yet...even college 2 years from now frightens me!

Kay - shorter work week sounds like just what you need right now! Enjoy!

3rd straight overcast day here...I love the sun but sometimes it's nice to have a little break! Some rain yesterday as well. Life is good!

Enjoy your Sunday!

I guess this sleep thing is a problem for just about everyone! At least I can usually get my 7+ hours most nights, now, if those are fully restful, not claiming that!

Work's been very stressful this week, but I vented to Larry last night, and think I'll make it through now, at least it's the weekend and I can forget all about it! And I'm taking 2 days off next week too!

Signed up for Pilates this morning (mostly because I missed going last week, just couldn't find time in my schedule, and the class I wanted to go to this past Weds was cancelled...) even though I had my training with Iain yesterday...glutton for punishment, I guess!

If the heat keeps up here I may just spend the day at the crick!

Great report Choc!
Sounds about right for your given situation.

Cat toys...lol...of course...they are 'helping'.

I have Leilani's stuff all packed up. Also emotional...I am at the same time excited, but also sad. Saying goodbye to the 'things' are very representative of this new stage of life. I am very happy for her and me...
I am plotting in the middle of the night as well...hahaha

Hi Maui... Sleep? What's that? (LOL)
I either can't fall asleep or I wake up at 3 or 4 in the morning! (Either way I just get up and do more packing & sorting instead of laying in bed "frustrated" because of these changes in my "sleep habits")... Dogs are taking it all in stride, my cats on the other hand think I'm losing my mind! (They're probably right about that LOL) the cats do love playing in all the boxes all around the house & think it's their new "cat toys"

Happy Friday, last day of July!
Welcome August!
Wow...how did this happen?

Welcome home Mary!
Congrats to the boys!
I think I'd love to go walking those miles with you. I go in the morning about 3-5...Maybe we can have a virtual walk. :)
The crick is perfect this afternoon eh? You have some serious skills with the rope swing.
I brought some inner tubes to float in and listen to the frogs and crickets.

Choc- More congrats! Well done with all the sorting. I bet you are excited. Mind a whirling. Can you sleep at night? What do the dogs think with all the commotion?

Hi all... Just a quick fly by... Everything is "crazy" here... My house is sold ... Found a house on1 acre with beautiful flower garden landscaping to move to, put in an offer on that & they accepted the offer (still have to get through all the closing stuff and "paperwork")... Had my "soon to be" house inspected (will need mostly "little" fixes with a few "bigger jobs" but nothing drastic ... In the mean time I've been sorting, donating things to Goodwill, throwing "stuff" away, and packing, packing packing! Emotional, Exhausting and Exciting all rolled into the last week or so & still so much to do !!! Anyway, have read back through some of the posts but too far behind to reply to all so just sending out "howdy's & good wishes to all the deckies out there! Will try to pop in once in awhile but until everything settles down it will probably be quick "pop in's"

Hey there deckies! Happy Friday!

Back from my trip to Kentucky...very proud of boys...5-2 for the week! Felt like I spent entire week watching games, washing uniforms and grocery shopping! Didn't manage to get away for any hikes but another mom was tracking her steps and we were getting in 8000+ every day just being team moms.

Maui - I sure hope your doc has found the right adjustment for you eyes! Loved the video! Crick time yes!!!!!! Not too hot here (86) but it's so darn muggy the crick will feel great!

Kay - Hope you and Larry are starting to get some good sleep!

I've set a goal of walking 6 miles each day for the next couple of weeks. emoticon It's time to get rid of the extra pounds before they get so comfortably settled in that they start inviting friends to join them!

After 8 nights on the road it's time to get back to making good choices - one day at the time!

Have a great afternoon everyone...hope to see you in the crick tonight!

Pura Vida!

Check out this video...heartwarming...beautiful ...smile!

Kay- Sounds like Larry is doing ok. Sleep at night can really help the entire rest of the day. So sorry about your leg cramps...water? magnesium? Hard workout?
Hope the crutches get figured...poor guy.

My eye doc tried another type of contact in my non surgical eye yesterday.
Makes driving easier...but cannot read anything...lol...computer, labels at the store...cooking! Cutting on the cutting board! OMG...just saying...gotta see when In the kitchen. haha...
Process continuing!

So...I am sorting...again...
Its super hot.
Leilani moved awhile back. She didn't take everything. Hmmm...well...so I am beginning the process ...re organizing. Good super hot weather project!

Have a happy Wednesday everyone!

Yep, feeling the heat here too! emoticon We resorted to the AC yesterday, first day in a while (well since the smoke blew in on Sunday, but that wasn't from the heat...)

From your description the crutches sound about right, I think he's just got to get conditioned for the movement, it takes a bit. I just don't remember that being an issue the first go round, but maybe he just had other things to complain about then. He's been sleeping pretty well, considering, not getting up in the middle of the night like he used to, that's a good sign, and still enjoying his multiple mid-day naps...I'm sleeping per usual, but had some awful leg/foot cramps last night. That makes it hard to get to sleep!

Hope everyone has a great Wednesday!

Kay- Great news Larry is feeling better. Poor guy (and you...sheesh)
But make sure he isn't tapering off too much on pain med support. It's still early.
Can he ice? (Or is it so wrapped the ice won't 'get there'? Ice is a great pain reducer.

As far as the chafing ...the only question I'd have there is the crutch length. Hopefully he got them fitted well (Cause that does not always happen.) When he is standing up, and crutch in armpit, there should be an inch or 2 gap so he is not down on his arm pit. As far as a pad...I bet the ortho shop has nice options.
Gosh...another journey...but on his way.

Are you two sleeping well yet? Sending more healing energy.
Hugs.

I didn't go towel shopping yet.
I did have to go back to the eye doc and he is going to try a new contact tomorrow in my eye, one that corrects for astigmatism. Duh...

It's apparently a 'process'...blah blah...and apparently I am impatient. hehe...alsthough a compliant patient.

Had garden tomatoes, eggplant and pesto tonight. Yum. (With some mushrooms and BBQ hickory smoked chicken) Just a few plants this summer, but still some good eating happening. :)

It's gonna be HOT the next couple days...is it crick time???

emoticon news Choc! Sounds like a nice place there! The stars seem to be aligning just right for you!

Maui, I'd like some new towels too, but we have so many here, it's hard to justify. But I can see how that would spiff up the new bathroom, especially since you have a new towel bar! It would be hard to put in old towels there...

Larry's feeling better today, he's finished the antibiotics, so I feel like I can ease up on following the medications so closely. He only needed 2 pain pills today, good sign! I think the worst of it for him right now is the chafing under the arms from the crutches! I may have to go check out the ortho shop and see what they have for that.

Now that my house is "sale pending" my realtor and I visited a house on 1 acre that I have had my eye on... It needs some "bandaid fixes" but has a big beautiful back yard with lots of perennial gardens, a veggie garden and is very close to lots of state land with hiking & kayaking areas... Sent the sellers an offer over the weekend and
They accepted my offer!!!!! (Still need to go through the inspection and all the paperwork but I am doing the HAPPY DANCE right now!!!!')

Kay- Oh my...the nerve block has worn off. Hopefully you have some pain meds for the next few days.
He's lucky to have such a great nurse.
Sleep and staying out of the way...yep...sometimes the 2 best things we can do.
Its hard being dependent.. Sending you healing energy for Larry and extra hugs.

Our good news is we have towel bars!
Another step done in the bathroom.!
I might go look for new towels. Haven't had any new one in a many years.

I think he did have vitamin D checked a while back, and was OK. He does take meds for hypertension and low T, but the BP has been fairly lowish lately, he got a new home BP cuff and keeps an eye on it. And we tend to eat pretty well, whole foods etc. Anyway, the nerve block has worn off, so now he's feeling the pain, poor man! I'm just trying to do what I can to assist, and then stay out of the way! Lots of sleeping is good for him right now.

Nice that you got a ride to Woodland! And great news on the labs! Hope the repeats are as good if not better!

Good morning Deckies!

Choc- I bet you were awake last night...giddy and happy...excited...Great news my friend.

Kay-Massage, pampering...good good! Hope you slept like a baby.

Such great news Larry's surgery is behind him. Now onto to recovery...rest, nutrition, compliant, right? Then PT! He and (you) can do this! And soon onto what you both would rather be doing.
Magnesium, Vit D, Calcium...heal.

You know I recently had pages of labs ordered from my Lupus and Hashimoto's docs. And the labs could not be better. Cholesterol below lowest risk, Liver , blood levels ...everything perfect. But the biggest news were negative for all Lupus antibodies. Crazy, right? Also, my Thyroid antibodies, instead of being in the 2-3K, we down below 10 and 5. Super low.
My docs and my OBGYN all VERY interested since 2 of the docs have followed me for so long, decades.So...no proof of why this is. But coupled with increased bone density, maybe significant to watch. And of course they all want repeatable labs to confirm in several months.
I mention this because of Larry's surgery.

When I had my year of surgeries in 2012, you know I went reading a ton to keep me occupied.
I believe Diet/Nutrition has to be a huge or primary factor.
I know you eat really well. But has Larry had his Vit D checked?

Maybe during this time...also add, organic, hormone free, antibiotic free etc...you know, right?
Healing is such a big puzzle. But give the liver a break from anesthesia, pain meds etc...the aging body has a lot to do,...
Maybe do every for now?

Anyhow, sorry for the rant...it was just timely seeing docs this week after labs.

Driving...lol..not too far, thats for sure. Hubby went with me yesterday up to Woodland to see my son. I often go mid week, but cannot drive more than 5-10 minutes then need to rest my eyes...lol. Baby steps. I see doc again tomorrow to check this contact now in my other eye.

Today we hang towel bars! Woohoo!

Congrats Choc! emoticon Glad it all turned out great!

Maui, driving? Guess the vision is better, good news! emoticon

Wood, have fun in Canada!

Reso, nice work on the hats and warm clothing, and for getting the family involved in the making of it!

Larry's surgery went a bit longer than expected, and his surgeon took a lot of pictures of the inside of his ankle, and very thoroughly went through them with me...he had some pretty bad cartilage damage that was cleaned out, and the doctor expects will heal OK. So good news, now we just need to get through the healing, and see what comes out the other side. He could do some grafting if need be, but I'm hoping he'll heal from this, and be back up and running (or maybe just hiking!) in a few months time.

And as luck would have it I have a massage this afternoon...so a little pampering for me. I could sure use it!

Choc- Great news! The best ever! Woohoo! Happy Dance for sure!

Wood- Glad yoga was working this morning and that the massage seems to have helped as well. Whew. You didn't plan in any 'down time'.
Canada , here you come! Hope you get more sunshine this time my friend. Safe journey.
Hugs to you and Luv.

Kay- Thinking about you and Larry today. Hope all has gone well. Big hugs to you too.

Reso- here comes another weekend...more music??

I did 2 short drives today...whoooooo...weird...I went mid day to return a dress (LOL...also trying to get ready for my son's wedding, right?)
And...went to get groceries...all the lights inside the mall and grocery store on my non balanced eyes...oh my poor brain. lol...But...it was OK.

I think next trip to my son's hubby will have to go with me. Not sure my eyes can drive more than 12 minutes yet.

OK...celebration tonight!
In honor of Choc's home sale and inspection passing, A chocolate party!

So this is how this goes...
I set up a chocolate fountain with all the dippings and fixings. But this is milk chocolate to be creamy smooth.

Everyone bring your favorite chocolate dish.
I am bringing dark chocolate dipped garden strawberries. :)
and wine...
:)

Congrats Choc my friend!
Party!

Now is the perfect time for wine!!! Just sayin! (As the missing Snow would say.)

Fished in my stream for the first time since the chemical spill. I figured it was pretty much flooded ever since the incident, so I was hopeful the bad stuff has long since gone by. Good news. Apparently I'm far enough down stream that it didn't ruin my fishing. Caught 22 bass in less than 2 hours. Can't hardly beat that!

Did my yoga this morning and pretty well got the back back into shape. However, I would be dumb to turn down the massage!

Life is good!

My suggestions for an Axe Island add-on would be to have a permanent axe/tomahawk/knife throwing range, a blowgun range, an atlatl range, some pells for sword fighting practice work, a nice mat for some martial arts work, and a lovely natural amphitheater where we could play music and dance under the stars. Oh, and hammocks where we can rest from our exertions.

Maui, hope you get the eye thing settled soon. That kind of thing can be such a show stopper. I sometimes get migraines that include visual distortion, and my level of function drops from 100% to about 10% in seconds. Hang in there.

More music down by the river tonight (different river, though). I enjoy going and sitting with friends and relatives to listen but I get antsy if I have nothing to do with my hands. So I crochet warm winter hats for our local Coats for Kids program that provides winter coats for children whose families can't afford to buy them. I joked with my SIL that perhaps some unsuspecting child will put one on and start singing the songs I was listening to when I crocheted it!

We currently have plans for many of the "crafty" people in my extended family to get together early in September and sew hats, scarves and mittens from that warm, soft fleecy fabric to also go to Coats for Kids. My goal is for us to make 15 sets. So I am buying up all the discount fleece I can find now. :)

Strive for peace, hope and perseverance.

Afternoon Deckies!

Wood- Thanks for the exuberant good morning!
Your wood shop projects sounds excellent as ever. Jenga...outdoor style...Fun!
And Axe Island for our deck...your bet! LOL... Singing, target throwing and more...lol...perfect addition to our landscape.
Busy bee as ever...

Choc- Sorry I missed the wine and hot tub last night. You know my eyes are goofy...hopefully better soon. But...Fingers , Toes...everything crossed for the inspection to sail through.

Kay- HAngover...oops...Its been awhile since I had anything to drink actually. (Since France), anyhow...Good you had such a fun visit, great wine, cheese conversation...you bet ...sometimes its just what was needed. Good for you.
So...tomorrow is Friday! Are those cabinets/files all put away by Mr Larry? Please give him a hug for us. Tell him hubby and I are sending healing energy etc.

OK...I am trying to keep up here on the deck, but...Feeling a bit challenged with reading and typing. Its a long story, but eyes are not quite 'there' yet. Had a complication (of course)...lol...and a posterior vitreous detachment of my surgical eye causing 'floaters' in my field of view. Also this makes it impossible for me to wear the glasses I had prepared...(An older pair, with r lens removed and replaced with a clear lens)
So until today my only option was to go no glasses...one eye 20x20 and the other -375 plus astigmatism. No driving , reading, even walking a challenge...too much disparity between teh eyes.
So, today he fitted me with a contact for my non surgical eye, correction to 225...so I can try and still read a bit. Now I need to go buy reading glasses...
seriously???
An adventure as usual...lol.

But this typing and reading takes a bit, fatiguing...lol.This too will get worked out with time.

Wood- Should I set up the massage table? Don't need good eyes to help out there. Gotta take care of that 'ol back, right?

Is it too early for wine??

Good morning! I'm a little hungover...had a glass too many at the neighbor's last night, emoticon they invited us over to dinner with their nephew, Johannes who's in from Germany. Good conversation, as usual, and a bit too much wine and cheese! But every now and again that's what's called for.

Sunny side up trail? I think there may actually be an over easy trail after the crispy bacon trail (although that sounds like a bad name for a mountain bike trail), there is definitely a bacon strip trail. Pretty creative with the names back there!

I'm trail commuting to work today, not sure if I'll jog it or walk it...and we're having a potluck! I brought my tabbouleh in yesterday....it should be pretty good today, given the day to meld all those herbs together. I used a bunch of tiny tomatoes from my dad's, little yellow pear tomatoes and tinier orange tomatoes. Should be tasty! emoticon

So we're building Axe Island now? Sounds like a plan! Axe throwing and a music/dance area? Guess we need a good schedule so those don't overlap!

Choc, hope you get good news from the inspection! I would think the buyers would be OK with any findings, as they know the age of the house, one would expect to find something and just deal with it.

Have a great day all!

Rise and shine, Deckies! It's a beautiful low humidity day! Uncommon in these parts!

You know my fingers are crossed for you Choc! Soon this will be all a thing of the past and you, like Snow, will be in a new spot and loving it!

Worked in the wood shop until pretty late last night! Was making a giant Jenga game. You remember the Jenga game right - where you start off with this solid wood tower and you remove one piece of wood and add it to the top until someone makes it fall over? Well then one's made out of 2 x 4's and might be 6 ft. tall before it collapses! Saw one being played at the wine festival and thought it looked like fun! Maybe we'll try it out here on the deck! A new challenge!

Also split wood for a couple of hours and the back is feeling it. Not used to that anymore!

Hope you all have a great day!

Life is good!

Magic carpet ride strikes again! I posted a long commentary about my home inspection that took place today and it seems to have disappeared from the deck! .... Short version, inspection took 3 hours, I won't see the report for a few days yet so I'm a nervous wreck & need some wine with my deckie pals tonight ! emoticon

Wood... Enjoyed our talk too

House inspection was today... All the realtors, the potential buyers and the inspector are finally goneā€¦ They were here over three hours!... The inspector was a real sour Puss! ... I know he's just doing his job but he didn't have to be such a BIG GROUCH! ... He's supposed to give my realtor a copy of the report, but that might not happen for a couple days... I think I'm having a nervous breakdown over all this crazyness! Sure hope the report wasn't too bad for this old house :-/ So now it's the wait-and-see game again! Sigh :-(

I definitely am ready for some wine on the deck tonight!!!!

Good morning OP!

I really meant to stop by last night but by the time dw and I settled down it was almost midnight and I was just too tired! Got back yesterday from a really good extended weekend. Friday and Saturday was a dance/camp weekend with our usual group of dancers at a campground in Gettysburg. Had a lot of fun, but it was almost too hot to dance! (unairconditioned rec hall. Plus had another huge thunderstorm Saturday morning that flooded the campground. Those of us in RV's didn't have an issue but there were a lot of people there in tents that got a serious soaking! Then for Sunday until Tuesday morning we had our grandson join us for his 10th birthday camping trip! His favorite activity was riding on one of these things with his grandmother around the Gettysburg battlefields. I rode a scooter. Not a Harley but a lot of fun!
Oops! My picture download didn't work, but the thing they rode around in you can check out at this website of the place where we rented them. http://www.gettypeds.net/

To answer your question Maui, next trip is indeed Canada again, but this is not the houseboat trip, but the family trip. We rented a bigger house this year to accomodate our 11 people. So this time it's only 3 days at home to get the yard work done before we take off once again.

Mary - Ouch! Doesn't sound like your trip is off to a great start!!!!! Hope things improve from today forward!

Choc - Great talking to you yesterday! Got my fingers crossed for your house inspection today! Good luck my friend!

Music! Dance party! Yes! No secret here that I love music an dancing!

Maui - So glad the eye operation went well! Hope the whole world looks a little clearer again!
Of course, I'd be willing to give lessons! What fun to have a real dance party with this group!

Crispy Bacon Trail - Kay that sounds to me like a morning hike! Does it lead to the "Sunny Side Up Trail"? Hope Larry's surgery is flawless! As Maui said, outdoor adventures just over the ridge!

"Axe Island" sounds like a good addition to "The DecK" locale. What do you think? It's already been discussed how many of us enjoy music.

Got to go!

Life is good!

Yawnnnn...I am so tired...left around 1pm yesterday hoping to get most of the way to Louisville...we were making amazing time for 2 1/2 hours then I heard a little "pop" emoticon ...sounded like a champagne cork! Then I noticed the crack stretching from the very left of my windshield for about 18 inches...yikes!...told son to google autoglass in the nearest town of any size 30 miles away...pulled off at the next exit and called...no way they could get me in yesterday but gave me number in another town to call...they found my windshield in their distributor's stock so while I drove the hour side track to them while they picked up the glass and the crack lengthened another 10 inches or so...they completed the installation just before their 6pm closing time...then I drove until midnight, found a room and drove the rest early this morning to arrive to hotel issues...

we all ended up at a much nicer hotel but now I'm on the computer in the business center at 1:34am because the a/c in the room doesn't seem to be cooling so I'm tossing, turning, not sleeping and worried I'm keeping boys awake...no more rooms in the inn so they can't move us...but will comp tonight's room...

dancing sounds like so much fun but think I better stay as cool as possible tonight (guess I should say this morning) so I'll watch and learn and sip a cold brew!

think I'll play a few games on my phone to pass the time then go back up and give sleep another shot...desk clerk says a/c is on motion detection so maybe because 3 boys were in the room sleeping most of the day it decided room was unoccupied...hoping because I overrode the "autos" not too long before I came down (cooling on, fan on) it might be a bit cooler in an hour...oh well at least it's not as hot here as elsewhere!

Pura Vida!

Mauima, I am so ready for a dance party! We went down by the river tonight and heard a 50's band! It is beyond me how anyone could listen to that music and not have fun. My face hurts from smiling! It doesn't matter that the music was before my time, it is still great to listen to. I love music that makes me happy! :)

Afternoon Deckies!

Kay- Your determination and focus...yep...inspiring. I can just imagine the stress for poor Larry and you...but I also have no doubt you two will persevere and succeed. So much outdoor adventure waiting for you on the other side...just a little more delay here. Thinking about you.

Choc- so you must be sorting away. :) Hopefully not worrying. It'll all work out. Glad you stopped by for wine.

Still laying low here, waiting for my brain to adapt to the visual changes. Drops are all working just fine and eye seems to be recovering.

Wondering what many of you are up too.

I think it's time for a big deck dance party. Bring BBQ food, I'll put the hammocks up, musical instruments, voices and your most comfortable dancin shoes.
Wood, how about some dance lessons? Line dancing? Please? It's been awhile...

Time to open the wine cellar...and maybe brandy for later?

Life is good...

Happy Tuesday! The countdown has begun...for me at least. Just a few more days until I have a patient to take care of, and still have to put away those file cabinets! But he assures me they will be put away...it's just the shelf he's working on is taking longer than planned! The story of my life. emoticon But one way or another, those cabinets will be put back by Friday morning....if I have to do it myself!

Running in to work today, a few more miles on my shoes. emoticon

Maui... Oh yes please! Wine is just what I need to help me calm down! I'm going to spend all day Tuesday cleaning house, mowing lawn, etc to get ready for the Wed morning house inspection...I know I shouldn't be so up tight about it, but I just can't help being nervous that something might stop the sale! .... I've done some decluttering but haven't really started packing yet (figured I should wait till after the inspection when I know for sure if they are going to go through with buying the house!) ... If all goes well, closing is supposed to be on or before Aug 31st so I will have about a month to "house hunt" , pack and move ....(I have about 5 or 6 houses "saved" to go see, so I have been doing on-line "hunting" and some "drive-bys" to view those homes & neighborhoods before I actually have my realtor take me inside for a real tour)

In the meantime, let's enjoy some of that wine! (I'll bring some nachos and avocado dip to go with the wine!)

Happy Monday everyone!

Kay- OK...Surgery Friday. So recovery begins soon too! Great you are so smart about preparations etc...soo so important for post surgery.
12 miles on a bacon trail...lol...super glad you made it home safe and sound. ;) Wandering...good for the mind eh? Not just the body. Good prep for this week...some miles for you. I have thought a lot about how my surgeries must have impacted hubby. You are always smart about taking good care of you too.
Ratatouille in the crock...making me swoon.

Wood- IS VBS all done? Next adventure when? So many gardens are really suffering this summer. So weird...either no water or too much...

Reso- Choc-and Mary- Yep, super happy this surgery is behind me. I want my other eye done! My surgical eye is doing VERY well. :)

Axe island...hahahahaha...

Choc- you packing??? Hope you are stressing too much about the inspection. These things usually work themselves out. Try not to worry. Sorry I missed the wine.

Mary- Yes...that's a LOT of corn! Good for you! It reminds me of 'what I think is, a funny story. Back when I used to live in MN, I grew huge gardens. One location was just corn. I shared gardening locations and chores with one neighbor. She and I kept each other company and shared everything. When the corn, 'came in', it was a huge job. And for maybe 10 days, all we did was pick, cut and freeze corn for the year. All meals during the harvest were...yep...corn on the cob. Every year during the corn harvest we gained weight! Hubbies would tease us, reminding us about 'corn fed cattle'...lol...Good thing it was a short spell every year. But lucky you having access to such a great harvest!

Choc- OK...how about some wine tonight?? I'll bring a Plum galette and vanilla ice cream too. Summer yummy.
Plenty for everyone.
I'll make the wine a zinfandel... Kay...you up for some wine?

Happy Monday! I ended up on a 12 mile hike yesterday, wandering around the trails out back...I wanted to see where the "Crispy Bacon Trail" got to....well, it got way out there! But I made it home with just a little cross country under my feet.

Larry's surgery is this Friday, so we're trying to put the house back in order for when he's back on the crutches... emoticon

Choc, don't stress about the inspection. If they find something, you can always negotiate on the price of the house so that it doesn't derail the whole deal.

Maui, glad you got the procedure done, in spite of the computers.

Mrsand, we used to live in Florida where it is FLAT. We once went on vacation up to North Carolina to the Smokey Mountain National Park. We were struggling with this tough trail. I feared I would find blood in my hiking boots when I took them off, if I didn't pass out from exhaustion first. Then a guy walked by, carrying his kid on his shoulders. Apparently it was an easy trail for normal people, used to the topography and altitude, but a killer for us sea level flatlanders! Now that we live back in the hills, it doesn't bother us so much anymore.

Wood, went to "Axe Island" today and played. There were a few younger guys (20 somethings) all the way up to a lady who said she was 80. Lots of bluegrass, gospel and old time. It was hot - temps in the low 90's and about a...thousand percent humidity. But it was fun and we got invited back to play again next month. However, the rain is ever present and a storm was chasing the paddlewheel boat that brought us back to shore. Think of a good song and we will play it in your honor next time. :)

Strive for peace, hope and perseverance.

Had a nice Saturday, we came home from Roseville, after attending my Sister's graduation ceremony. It was great to spend some time with family celebrating her accomplishment!

Choc, fingers crossed for the inspection! I know you put some new stuff in recently (or recently to my memory) so it should be fine...moving forward anyway!

Maui, glad you got the procedure done this time! You should be seeing clearly in no time!

Mary, that's a lot of corn! Sounds rewarding!

I worked on the yard a bit yesterday, should go out and water the plants the sprinklers don't quite hit, and then I want to go for a walk. I've got ratatouille in the crockpot, brought home some giant zucchini and a bunch of tomatoes from my dad's garden, so I figured ratatouille would be a good idea!

Hey Choc! Enjoyed the wine! Fingers crossed that all goes well with the inspection!

Maui - Yippee the surgery is finally behind you! Hope the patch is off and you're seeing better than you could have imagined!

emoticon Had a blast gleaning corn this morning! 10 or 12 of us collected 851 pounds! Came home and picked the sandspurs off of my socks and shoelaces and washed the dirt from my feet and legs but haven't showered yet 'cause when the heat of the day passes I'm going to work in my yard a bit...so on the computer doing more bookkeeping until then...guess I better get back to it...uggg...

Maui... So glad the eye surgery went well for you (and that those computers didn't crash again!) get some rest my friend!

Thanks everyone for all the good wishes re my house getting "an offer" ... Next big possible "what if" that now has me stressed out is next Wed morning is the home inspection for the buyers... I'm a nervous wreck afraid they might find something that would make them change their minds on buying (after all it is a 26 year old house so I'm sure there's a few things that will get listed as "need fixing!" )... Problem is, I have neither the money to pay for repairs nor the talent / skills to do repairs myself! So I'm hoping it will go well, and there won't be anything "major" to stall or stop the sale! ..... (I think I need a couple glasses of the "deck wine" tonight to settle my nerves! Who wants to join me??????)

Happy Friday indeed,

I am home again from eye surgery! Got it done this time. All went well apparently. I am home. My eye is patched an numb, my other eye a wee bit tired...so, not going to type anymore and reading is too much right now. So, I'll catch up this weekend.

Anyhow, thank for all the good thoughts.

Happy Friday Deckies! emoticon

I'm going to grab a cold beer and a floating pool chair and bob close to the waterfall for a while...craving fresh air - spent way too much time indoors today...my own fault, I got so interested in researching parks where I can go hiking near Louisville that I spent a few hours researching on line so there went my outside time...but I think I found some nice trails with elevation changes! - exciting for me 'cause it's flat as a pancake around here!...I did get some bookkeeping chores done on the computer as well then had a humid 30 minute walk with little Harry...now taking a quick break before starting dinner...

Kay I hope we both have some ripe tomatoes soon!

Hope everyone's weekend is off to a great start!

Pura Vida!

Hey! Just caught up on all the goings on around here....

Congrats Choc! Now the fun begins, right? I agree w/ Mary about getting rid of stuff...do it now before you move it will make it much easier. I still have some boxes from my last move that I've never looked in again...sure don't need that stuff!

Big families...my parents were both one of six, and my dad was born on a farm...some of the family still farm as well (Southwest Minnesota), but many of my cousins are doing other things now.

We've been fairly cool this week, in the 80's, it's been nice, and the mud has dried up, which means I had to turn the auto watering back on! I'm still waiting for my tomatoes to turn red, but I have had 3 so far, and the bushes have lots of fruit on them.

Maui, too bad about the computer crash, hope you have better success next time with the procedure!

Glad to hear about the strength training! Sure makes a gal (or guy) feel good to push around some heavy weights! emoticon

Upper 50s - Wood that sounds lovely! - we barely get down to the upper 70s at night...does your mom still live on the farm where you grew up? Same here...I just have one sister who lives in Ohio but slews of 1st cousins since mom had 8 siblings and dad had 3 brothers...the fact that you've had successful summer gardens with all your traveling is amazing but I understand your frustration this year!

Hoping I might enjoy some night time 60s next week...traveling to Louisville, KY for AAU National basketball tournament...knew son's team qualified but wasn't sure we actually would go but got the hotel info today and made our reservation so looks like we're going...(but I'm still never sure until the caravan is on the road!)

Excited about volunteering Saturday morning to glean some corn fields - I have corn from the same fields in my fridge! - picked it up in my CSA yesterday...the corn we glean will be provided to families who live in "food deserts" - unfortunately there are many in our area including the immediate area where my son's school is located - so many families don't have supermarkets near their homes and also don't have good transportation - makes it so hard to have decent nutrition when they're relying on small, expensive neighborhood stores...just seems so wrong that I have 3 large regional supermarkets, Whole Foods and Trader Joe's within 2 miles of my home...and I live on a creek...life is truly good...I try not to take it for granted...

Love the hands-on, get dirty kind of volunteering much more than being on boards but I was asked by the prez of HS Booster Club board to take a board position (she's also a basketball mom)...she's such a hard worker that I couldn't say no...so I found myself attending a 5 hour meeting Tuesday night...review of By-laws, groan, so tedious, but necessary and I've served on many corporate and volunteer boards so I did contribute...but 4:30-9:30...that's a long meeting!

Hope everyone's having a great day! I got in an hour of strength work so I'm feeling great! And just logged my nutrition...exercise & tracking...big keys for me to get back where I like to be and where all of my clothes fit!

Pura Vida!
Mary

Sun is shining; humidity is low; temps in the upper 50's; birds are singing!! What a wonderful start to the day! Good morning OP!

Wonderful news Choc!!! You're going to be one busy girl this coming month!! Lots of boxes to fill; lots of decisions on keeping vrs. discarding; lots of memories popping up everywhere and then there's that emotional carousel that you won't be able to get off! But as Maui already said, what an adventure you'll be on! (Just ask Snow. She'll be able to tell you!) Good luck my friend! Luv and I will be there to party with you soon after you've moved out!

I really enjoyed your story of your grandmother's "farm", Mary. I too come from a huge family! I only have 1 sibling, a younger brother who now lives in North Carolina, but both of my parents had a bunch of brothers and sisters who ended up having a lot of kids! More than half of my aunts and uncles have now passed on. I too enjoy talking to my Mom about her life on the farm, but her farm was quite a bit bigger and is where I started life! My grandparents, Mom's parents, held family get-togethers at almost every holiday. It was great fun for us kids because there were so many of us! Life is good!

Maui - OH NO! What a terrible time for a computer crash!!!! Wow! Talk about frustration!!!! For one of my more major operations, I too was all prepped and medicated, but not yet under when it was discovered that my surgeon's "tools" were left behind at his office. I laid there talking to his assistant as we waited for someone to go get them. Set a 5 hour operation back almost another full hour! But at least mine still happened!!!!

Gardening? I'm seriously thinking about making this my last year for a garden. First of all, we're gone so much that it makes it difficult to keep up with the garden chores. But worse than that is the fact that my garden this year is the worst one I think I ever had. First of all, the critters are getting more than I am! The garlic spray didn't work but that may be because it rains almost every day and washes the spray off! The raining every day is a problem too believe it or not! It promotes plant disease and encourages rapid weed growth. This is the first year ever that I lost my pepper crop! Some kind of disease shriveled up the entire bunch of plants. They're still alive but look terrible and have no fruit on them. I'm just not feeling much pleasure there this year!

You're my kind of people Reso!

Hey congratulations, Proud Sister! My bet is she's pretty proud of you as well. French club sounds like a good time! I had a terrible time with languages. Tried Spanish, German, Latin and French and didn't do well with any of them! However, I do remember having a crush on my French teacher!! LOL!

Well time to hop on our roller coaster called "Life" and get this day on the way! Anybody want to ride with me?

Life is good!

Hello there deckies! emoticon

Lots of family in town last week...then we all traveled up the road 70 miles to meet more family for the weekend reunion...stayed up there Friday night...so much fun to listen to my first cousins, most of whom are 10-20 years older than me (my mom was the next to the youngest of nine siblings and is the only one remaining so she is the "matriarch" of the family) talking about my grandmother's "farm" which was in town and couldn't have been much more that 1 acre but every square inch was utilized...she grew peanuts, beans, tomatoes, potatoes, corn, lettuces and much more, had at least 6 pecan trees, 3 apple trees (I was always jealous at apple harvest time because I wanted to climb in the tree with the (older) boys and shake the limbs!)...and a chicken pen and coop - for eggs and for slaughter - my mom always says she hated it when she had to hold the feet then sling the headless chickens into the yard when her brothers beheaded them!...and Mimi also had a small fish pond...what a busy lady! Fun to reminisce but a bit sad that all of my aunts and uncles are gone along with 7 of my 17 first cousins...I am so lucky to have known them while they were here!

Choc - super exciting! Get rid of everything you can! Don't do like me and pack boxes to go through later - I'm still up to my ears...groan!!!!

Maui - what a bummer about the crash!!!! Glad you're still getting a little harvest! Mostly cucumbers and herbs for me right now but in a few weeks will start harvesting some greens and have more little seedlings coming along...tomatoes are driving me crazy...they won't ripen on the vine or in paper bag...would blame the heat but I walked through a community garden the other day and saw plenty of red...maybe need to put plants in ground instead of black containers! Compost seems to be warming up but not to 120 yet...still experimenting!

Wood - very sweet video! I too could see you and Luv enjoying blue grass on axe island!

Reso - how did the yak turn out??? (I think it was you building the yak - wasn't it?)

Kay - French club - very cool! I thought I was channeling your energy last week - I was really getting into some strength stuff - but then family showed up and my focus became enjoying all the snacks that I don't have in my house! Weight's up so time to try to do better again...tracking my food today - always a good idea for me...

OK - hot tub it is for a celebration for Choc!

Pura Vida!

OK...Now the rest of my post...lol...

Snow! Thank for the birthday wishes! No worries my friend, I love birthday's that go on and on!
Yep, last year was fun! Campfire, food friends and Ladder ball, girls vs boys...lol...girls rock!

Reso...wow...that's a lot of rain. I know it much be getting really old. There are predictions here, that we will have flooding rains next winter...(of course). But still we have to let everything die this summer...swell. Oh well.
And the Axe throwing Island! hahaha...you crack me up again!

KAy- I think I'd enjoy French club. Love the diverse group. I especially enjoy listening to stories from the elderly. And the food...yep...you know me. ;)
And Lain after work...Ok then...I'll have the hot tub ready and a glass of Zinfandel...and maybe a small piece of chocolate. ;)

Wood- Ahhhhhhh...Love....of course. Great video link.
I can just see you and Luv out on Axe ISland, for the sing along/music jam with Reso! Right up your alley. Fun Fun. And yes... even midnight is likely past my bed time...lol.But you two made it to midnight. OK...with a little help from Jack, I suspect I'd be up dancing the night a way too...Then Crash!
LOL...

Speaking of Crash...OK...yesterday was my eye sugrery. First let me tell you I am fine...BUT...
Got there at 6. Had been doing all my pre surgery eye drops for 4 days. Got my IV in, and all the meds. Had all the operative eye drops for dilation and pain in. Anesthesiologist met with me to go over the plan. Doc came in, ready freddy...rolled me over to the laser area. And the hard drive for the computer controlling the laser...CRASHED!
I came home! No surgery! all meds in and for no reason! Ack!
Anyhow spent the entire day, with my eye patched, unable to negotiate too much. Even at bedtime the dilation eye meds had not worn off...
What a wasted day!
I am awaiting a new date...lol...
So...today, I am able to ready the computer a bit better, signed in to log my food and there was Choc's Great news!

(Today I ate 3 kinds garden tomatoes salad for lunch. Yum. ;) I don't have much of a garden...but those bites I do have...I appreciate, let me tell you.)

Mary, did you get your compost cooking?? Any harvest coming your way?

Life is Great!
Hugs all around my friends.

Tonight...Hot tub!
Celebration for Choc!
(This is why we HAVE to have chocolate!)

Good morning!

Wood, we play bluegrass, old time, old time gospel, a little folk and some Celtic. I like to also listen to rock, blues and international folk. Lots of people around here play and we may go over to that island where I took my axe throwing lessons again for a music jam this weekend.

Kayotic, French Club sounds like fun. Once upon a time, I was fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, but without practice I am now pretty rusty on both.

Mauima, glad my mud travails give someone a chuckle. I'm not laughing. We got more major storms last night, but they are predicting dryer weather tomorrow and Friday. But then back to 50% likelihood of rain for the weekend. Our ponds are full and the geese and frogs are loving it, but the rest of us are oversaturated!

Strive for peace, hope and perseverance.

Hey o'peeps! emoticon Happy Wednesday!

French club is a group of folks who speak or want to speak French, mostly adults, although at this gathering there were quite a few kids running around too! Larry joined the group years ago, he is French heritage, and learned in Montreal when he was getting his PhD, and wants to keep it up. Many of the members are native French speakers from all over the world, so it's good for the French students to improve their conversational skills. And there is one member who wrote a book about his time in WWII as a spy for Churchill! He's in his 90's now...(I'm reading the book as my lunchtime diversion, riveting story!)

Glad I made it to Wednesday, I'm training with Iain after work, since I'm off Friday to go to my sister's graduation (she's getting her Master's in Waldorf Education). Proud sister here! emoticon

Snow - Good to SEE you! We definitely are in need of more talk time! Hope all is going well in your new surroundings.

Mary - Happy anniversary! The "Deck" has been a better place with you on it! You're right, this is a different place on SP, but I love our little silly group of friends here!

Maui - No! No! The party may have gone strong until about 2, but we were in bed by midnight! Not a kid anymore.

Reso - Now that sounds like my kind of weekend! Bluegrass? Folk? Blues? Smokey Mountain stuff? Gospel? I don't play, but I'd love to sing along!

Kay - French club? Like French club at high school? I can see all kinds of variations of "French Club".

Choc - Did that bid on the house come in?

Again, lot's to do, so I better get to it! VBS lasts until Thursday. Being activity director for a bunch of 4 - 11 year olds certainly is interesting!

Hey there Deckies!

Thank you for all the birthday wishes! My goodness, I am feeling the love.

Wood- Yes...what a journey it has been! Lucky us, eh?
Thank you for being a part of my world and making it a better place. Big hugs. Wine, hugs, hot tub parties, vacations, everything...been quite a ride.
And your weekend...wow...fun stuff. But...I don't know about staying up till 2 AM...lol...Glad you had such fun.

Choc- Thanks for the party! The food, decorations ...everything! Love you my friend.

Mary- Happy first anniversary. We are oh so blessed to have you here, sharing this crazy adventure!

Kay- Thanks for sharing the party fun! Always a better day with you here. Lambs ears...NICE! and a french cookbook! Which one? The kids brought me an Opera Cake yesterday...whoa...now thats a cake.

Reso- Thanks for the birthday wishes. :) You know I giggle out loud when you spoke of the mud...I am so sorry...didn't mean to be rude...it's just so weird this weather we are all having. I kinda 'lost it' there for minute.

I brought lots for everyone to share...chocolate, coffee, almonds, creme...yeah...CRAZY good!
Enjoy!

Wow!
What a crazy, crazy weekend! I've never attended attended a major event at a raceway before and I'm not sure I'll do it again (but I might), but what an experience it was! I tried to figure out just how many people were attending and all I can tell you was that it was many thousands! Actually I think there were a couple of thousand camped there in the center of Watkins Glen International and it was all one HUGE party! If quiet tranquility is what you're looking for (and I often am) than an event like this is NOT what you're looking for. There's music blasting from every direction and don't expect quiet hours to mean quiet, at least not until well after 2 am! (I found that Jack Daniels makes a pretty good sleeping aid however.) The 11 in my group with their zebra skin togas were quite the attention getters. I don't think I've ever had my picture taken quite so often. Try to imagine us in our togas line dancing at the festival!

Saturday, we decided to have a totally different experience and the 11 of us left the party experience for most of the day and went hiking at Ricket's Glen State Park. It was one of the best waterfall hikes I've ever been on! Beautiful place and we'll return to it again in quieter times. Saturday night - we steamed over 400 clams and got back into the party mode again.

Switch gears - returned home fairly early Sunday because Glor and I are directors at our churches VBS and that started last night. (will continue this week.)

Next event - this weekend- coutry dance weekend at Gettysburg campground with a bunch of our dancing friends.

Phew!!!!

Life is good!

Wood

Happy belated birthday, Mauima! Hope you had a great day - in both the real and virtual worlds.

We finished a lovely, 4 day weekend of playing music and listening to music with family and friends. Not too much physical activity (other than my fingers, we played until we had to break out the super glue and beyond), but loads of fun.

Still horribly muddy and supersaturated with rain around here. More storms predicted for today, so I am trying to fit time at the gym into my crowded schedule. We met a new couple at church yesterday who are just getting started in kayaking. If there is a break in the weather this week, we'd like to introduce them to our new favorite "go-to" spot for quick, local paddles.

Hope everyone is having a great week already. I need to rest up from my mini vacation!

Strive for peace, hope and perseverance.

Amazing weekend, but too late and too tired to go into much detail. Later.

However, the important thing now is that it's Maui's birthday. Maui, my friend, you've been with me almost since day one of "the Deck". I've enjoyed "Magic Carpet rides" with you, God knows how many bottles of wine in the hot tub and spent two weeks with you and dh in Hawaii. That's better than some married couples have done. Maui, I'm so glad to call you my friend. I hope your birthday was a wonderful one and now, let's open one more bottle of cab and toast to yet another year of growing older on "the Deck". Happy birthday, my friend.

Life is good!

emoticon Maui! Hope it's a nice one!

French club was fun last night, lots of cheese, and home-made chocolate eclairs...can't beat that! And I won a French cookbook, and they were giving away plants, so I took one of those too (a lamb's ear). Our neighbors have some, and I've always like them, so I'll see if I can get it to take in my yard.

We decided to salvage the day by working around the house a little, then going in to play music with bil/sil and then going back down to the festival to hear some more of the bands (if it doesn't rain again).

Happy Saturday morning Deckies!

OK...I have seen one picture so far of Wood and Luv in their togas (on fb), and For sure....there are going to be stories to loo forward to when he gets back. LOL...oh boy! They know how to have fun!

Reso- darn! too bad about that rain...life's goofy eh? When's the next opportunity? Gonna try it again? And today rained out too...weird. Did you see the high Sierra got Snow??? Crazy! We had a cooler week here, no rain.

Kay, Bastille Day celebration sounds like a plan. After being in France, and having a tour of Versailles, I too will celebrate along with the French. It was quite a mind opener. The people had very good reason to revolt. Anyhow, herbs...yep. Fresh is the best. I only have 3 tomatoes and 8 eggplants left of my entire veggie garden. I simply don't have enough water.(We check the meter every saturday) Such is life. BUT...I have saved several herbs...this helps.

OK...kids are coming tomorrow and we have a list of this and that today.
Life is good eh?

So get outside! Everything is better outside!

Hope those rivers start to cooperate soon for you Reso!

We didn't get much rain yesterday compared to earlier in the week, but lots of threatening clouds, and it was so much cooler than it's been. We have French club tonight (Bastille day celebration) so I'm making tabbouleh, got the bulgar soaking, and I'll head to the store for the herbs I'm not growing, it's really tasty!

Tonight we went to a fun music festival along the banks of the river. Great time with friends and family - until we got rained out. Also, no river kayak trip for us tomorrow. The water levels are still too high. Guess I'll have to stay home and do housework. :P

Yep, guess I'm a mudder now! And not the only one...Resolved, hope you get a break soon too!

Wow, a Finger Lakes Wine festival sounds like a great time! Enjoy, emoticon and don't forget to bring some samples back for the deck wine cellar!

My trail commute was a little less muddy yesterday, still some spots I had to get around that were pretty bad, but for the most part it was dried out, that's the desert heat and lack of humidity for you! Today is my training day, I've switched to Friday's (from Monday) and really like it more than I thought I would, it just puts the cherry on the end of the week, and then I'm ready for the weekend! emoticon

So Kay, you're a mudder now are you? I always thought those mud events looked like fun but never participated.

Like so many of you that live outside of California, we've been getting a lot of storms! Big ones! Last evening I took my gd to her softball game. It hadn't been cancelled even though there were tornado watches going on in the area. The coaches were raking and lining the field and the girls were warming up (my gd was supposed to pitch so she was working with her catcher) when the wind shear hit full force loaded with rain! Everyone scrambled for cars! My big SUV rocked in the wind and even with the windshield wipers going full force you couldn't see more than about 10 feet! In about 10 minutes our infield was under 2 inches of water! When the rain let up I pointed out a tornado in the making to my gd. Huge black cloud spinning in the sky, but never touched down that we saw. Needless to say, no game! LOL!

About ready to leave for the Finger Lakes Wine Festival. See you all Sunday night!

Life is good!

Mud and rain are the story of my life these days. Going on 3 or 4 weeks that we have had rain at least 5 days out of every 7. Our yard crackles like a bowl of Rice Krispies cereal because of the way the standing water percolates down through the heavy clay soil. I know at least 6 families that are fighting roof leaks and many others who are struggling with flooded basements.

We wanted to go kayaking on a nearby river this weekend between storms but will have to wait until the last minute to see whether the water level is safe. Right now it is at flood stage and would be too dangerous to kayak.

Outdoor activities aren't much fun with all the rain and mud. And even normal things like walks can be risky due to all the lightning zapping around. Even though it helps a little to know that others here are experiencing the same troubles, I am getting pretty grumpy about this....

I don't begrudge the missed vacation (too much), we'll get to it eventually, once Larry's all healed and mobile again...in the meantime, we'll just work on the house and the garden and watch the seemingly daily thunderstorms! I even turned off the water the other day, we're getting so much rain I don't need it....go figure!

Kay- Oh wow...Mud???? I think I remember mud emoticon
So...mud colored trail runners. And you had to get off trail to make it home. Crazy.

Sorry about larry's ankle /missed vaca thing. :(
It happens.
I had back surgery and a knee surgery on hubby's birthday, different years. Life happens eh? Hopefully the extra pampering will help offset.

Hey, has anyone here every seen these kayaks in person? http://www.orukayak.com/
I could take them places, even on a plane. We have nice lakes and reservoirs even when we have rain.

If I had the energy and inclination I'd post a picture of my trail runners, lets just say they are more "mud" colored than the "purple" they started out at the moment! emoticon We had some pretty dramatic storms yesterday, and the mud is everywhere! And since I ran in (on dry trails) I had to walk home. Had to take a different route, as when I got to the bridge by the duck pond, the water was coming down in a raging torrent! The bridge was fine, but on the far side of the bridge I would have had to wade through running water, wasn't jumpable (not by me anyway) and I hate getting my feet wet. Little did I know about all the mud I was soon to encounter! So I took the long way home, and ended up ankle deep in mud in a couple of places. emoticon

Mary, your Saturday night with the boys sounds like a great way to go! Candlelight and charades...

Snow, pretty flower! Hope that's at your new place!

Choc, any news yet?

I'm off today, went to Pilates this morning, and I have a facial later this afternoon. I figured since I had to cancel my vacation (again!) for Larry's ankle, I'd at least schedule some pampering days in for me!

Morning Deckies!

Snow...lol...OK...I just sent you an email without reading here first. I did ask about my room! Hehe! IS this Hibiscus from the Waiohai? Or your new home?

Mary- Family. emoticon emoticon Enjoy.

I finally ordered towel bars!!!!! They will be here soon. Yay. Then towels etc...lol...All these little details take so long! haha...Oh well. It's partly me. Making these kind of decisions I will live with semi-forever...answers don't come easily.

Happy Wednesday, get outside if you can!
Enjoy!

Today I drove up to see my son...good day. :)

Toga, Toga, Toga... (But I'd like mine snorkel water blue, not white. ;)
