Charity, that sounds delicious!

Mary, I'm glad things are cooling down where you are. The humidity is finally starting to burn off here after some rain on Sunday. I am so grateful!

Spent the morning finishing up cleaning the house. I have a phone interview for an awesome job here in a half hour, then it's off to work to pay with kiddos for a few hours!

Spent yesterday at the local UPick Farm. I got:rhubarb, red leaf lettuce, green leaf lettuce, romaine, spinach, napa cabbage, bok choy, broccoli, cauliflower, purple kale, green kale and kohlrabi.

I spent the better part of the evening processing it all. I juiced most of the greens, added in some other ingredients such as frozen blueberries, flax, chia, protein powder, etc and poured it into individual containers. I have my green smoothies all pre-made for the week now.

I also made Hot-Spicy-Sour Faux German Potato Salad using cauliflower instead of potatoes and it's amazing how delicious it is!

The weather is starting to turn here in Alaska. Fall will be just around the corner for us. Not terribly thrilled about that, but it's our reality.

I only have my clothes for this next week and the blankets that I'm sleeping on. The move *in* begins next Monday. Phew! In the meantime I'm still doing the camp counselor thing ams making my way down to the ocean for veg time.

Gotta run again, but happy Tuesday, everyone!

Been catching up on the posts....no time to reply though, as dinner is almost ready!

I will throw out a quick trip report, as I'm sure you all would have loved to go on our hike and scramble around the Chocolate Lakes (there are 4, and they are brook trout hatcheries), along with a nice scramble up the Chocolate Peak! Of course when I saw these places were just a few steps from our campsite, I had to go! It was a 7 mile round trip in all....really nice hike!

Also saw some birds, I saw a hawk swoop down and make off with a mouse while waiting for the boys to return from their mountaineering adventure (sorry to say, Larry has still not summitted Mt Humprhies, but he did get closer than ever this time). We had a campsite with lots of scarlet penstemon, which must be a favorite of the hummingbirds of Bishop, as they buzzed our tent every morning and evening in their quest for nectar.

Well, dinner is here so I must run!

Good evening OP!

Choc that is heartbreaking story that didn't have to happen. I love dogs too but if you have a problem animal you have to manage it, you can't let people or other animals be in danger.

Fertilized my garden and moved containers to a spot where they will get a couple of more hours of afternoon sun. Hope they perk up!

Wood - I was so relaxed last night that I completely forgot my manners and failed to tell you how much I enjoyed the scrumptious burger! It really hit the spot!

Tay can't wait to about the piano...how wonderful to fill your small place with music (and a beautiful instrument to gaze upon)...which one of you is the pianist? or is it both?

SD hope your move is going great!

Enjoy your night everyone! It was very hot in my yard today so as soon as I finish cooking hubbies dinner...I'm going to hit the swimming hole! (Who knows where ds is...he took off at 7 with a couple of his goofy friends on one of their family's golf cart...I asked him if he knew what he was doing for dinner...he said no...that was 1 1/2 hours ago so at this point if he comes home wanting dinner he'll have to fend for himself!)

Pura Vida!

Wood... Yes, thank goodness they got both dogs (they were from a house right where it happened) a neighbor who saw what was happening had to get his gun and shoot at the dogs to try to scare them off the attack.,, sadly for the jogger it was too late and he died in the hospital shortly after... Both dogs have bitten people walking or jogging by before (two incidents over the past two years, one bite quite severe) and police or animal control was called each time but only issued warnings to keep them penned up, but after this the dogs will undoubtedly be put down and the owners might face prosecution... Or at the very least a law suit... Sad and tragic for all involved.... (The dogs were a huge bull mastiff-like Italian breed called Cain Corsos, both weighing well over 100 pounds... The poor jogger didn't stand a chance of fighting them off) ... I love all dogs, but as a dog owner you have a responsibility to train and socialize your dogs and have them under control or penned up, ESPECIALLY if you know they are aggressive in any way!

Just keep swimming!

Never give up!

ok Wood I'm ready for a burger! then I'm off to bed...How's your back? Hope it's better!

Maui - you're right! Wine helps!...but I will miss my cucumbers...and girl you may call yourself a gardener but with all that production in my opinion you are a farmer!...for the last few years I've been gardening in containers but you make me want to go rent a tiller, tear up part of the yard and have a real fall garden!

Choc...that is a very scary story...please stay safe!

Looks like I'm first to the wine cellar!

Gentle cool showers this afternoon provided quite a show for me...it had been 95 degrees so when the showers hit the asphalt of our parking lot it was steam, steam, steam for 20 minutes...I was mesmerized watching the steam dance around...I could see wind in action and it was choatic...changing direction constantly and some tiny whirlwinds...skies were dark so it was like a scary movie set...nature - animate and inanimate is truly amazing...

temperature dropped 20 degrees to 75! emoticon so when I got home at 6:10 I hopped in my kayak and had an awesome 2 mile paddle...ok not really...I paddled 1 mile against the tide then rode tide back in...snowy egret, thousands of fiddler crabs and snails clinging to marsh grass, dozens of bats in the sky out for dinner as I rode the tide home...breeze was so cool that I actually had some goosebumps - that's a treat down here this time of year!

Tay...when my son was younger and I drove him and his friends out of state for basketball tournaments we listened to Harry Potter and Hobbit/Rings Trilogy books on tape...the boys loved it (this was before they all had cell phones) and I have to say it was fun for me too! So I say go to the library and pick stuff you love even if you know it all by heart already...

Wow!...the selection down here looks so great I'm going to close my eyes, spin around and play pin my hand on a wine bottle (hoping for a red emoticon )...meet me at the waterfall...I'll be sizing up the climbing rock picking a possible route to scale...(but not tonight - just relaxing tonight)

Cheers! emoticon

Looks like the wines flowing freely tonight! Should be a lot of fun! Count me in, but it is Friday night so I'm digging deeply into the cellar for one of my well aged brandies! I'll share. But what about the cookout? Anybody up for burgers on the grill as well?

I can't believe it but I lost another post!!! I did post early this morning, but once again it's nowhere to be found. Can't blame the tablet this time because I was on my laptop. Oh well. Hopefully this one gets there.

Maui - Sorry our timing was once again just a little off! After I get back from Canada we'll have one of our long chats!! I promise! ...and you're right - I do like the peach salsa - a lot!

Mary - The green worms - definitely a pain, but I love your description of them spelunking in the cucumbers. Yep, I too like your style!

Tay - Enjoy the roadtrip! Hey, let's sing a few songs tonight as well. After a drink or two of course.

Choc - That hiker getting killed by dogs is scary and unusual. Did they get the dogs?

Okay, who wants a burger? And what do you want on it? Putting swiss cheese and mushrooms on mine.

Life is good!

Just got back from a short hike, only 2.5 miles but "it's a start" to getting back in the swing of things (last summer I was hiking 5-8 miles a day 4 or 5 days a week plus kayaking)... Hoping to get back up to "par" for both of those ovèr the next few weeks with hopefully a week long back packing trip end if August or early Sept (if "life dramas" don't get in the way like they have most of this summer... Again, nothing serious, just "frustrations & delays")

Need to rethink all the solo hiking I do around here... There was a tragic incident just 2 miles from my house a few days ago where a jogger was attacked and killed by 2 huge dogs... Very scary and sad ...It was on a road that I often have walked or biked alone...Really makes me think I should start carrying pepper spray when I hit the back roads and trails... I've always taken bear spray on back country backpacking trips, but never even considered "animal danger" so close to home in the peaceful farm and woodsy area where I live...

Tay... Enjoy your road trip (or piano, whichever comes first LOL)

Maui... My "gardening" for the day consisted of picking two "sorta ripe" cherry tomatoes off one bush, LOL... Lots of blossoms though so hopefully I'll soon have lots more.... And loved your description of the walk on the beach & whale watching... Hope one of these days I can join you in a walk just like that! :-)

Ok... Gotta go finish some chores... Be back later cause I think I remember someone mentioning raiding the wine cellar behind the deck's waterfall ... Count me in on that! :)

Lunch break! haha...if you all could see my table, you might ask "break? I don't think so!"
Ahhhh...summer!

Full swing garden, and the end of the plums...whoa...timing is off this year. My peppers are not ready and peaches are done. Boohoo. Life. I usually make peach salsa (One of Wood's favorites and mine), and this year, not happening.

But my goodness, plums aplenty. I have given many a friend a 'batch' of plums, and no shortage here. Yesterday I made 6 pints green beans,8 quarts of bread and butter pickles, 12 pints of plum sauce for sorbet in the winter, a plum cobbler, zucchini, fresh tomato sauce and marinated tri tip for supper. Today, I have 14 more pints of plums, and 20 lbs of tomatoes ready for the pot. There are still strawberries, plums, zucchini, tomatoes, peaches, cukes on the table. But first, as my tomatoes simmer a bit, I am finishing Chili Verde! First of teh season , since I was able to pick a few Anaheims and jalapenos. Hubby will be happy tonight!

Mary, I like your style! Yes...we are very lucky here with all to celebrate on teh deck before the next adventures commence.Wine...you bet! oOur cellar is well stocked, so whatever is your pleasure. What your flavor? I love a nice CAb, or Zin. But you can woo me with a lovely Pinot or Chardonnay. Guess I am all over the map! But, did anyone tell you, we have some of the world's best chocolate in the back of the wine cellar? haha...yep! Help your self.
Sorry about teh green worms...wine helps.
:)

Tay .- you too! Super! Glad you can join us before you leave. 20 Hours!!!! wow. I mean...Yuck! Ah...too bad you never got to know Dan...good man.
We miss him. He can cook like crazy.

So, back to the kitchen for me, but there will be plenty of Chili Verde for supper, with a corn, avocado and sungold salad along side. Help yourselves!

See you tonight when I am done!

Become the change you wish to see in the world.

Good morning Deck-dwellers!

I'm enjoying my morning cup o' Joe in the hot tub, and contemplating the rest of my day. Perhaps I just won't get out.
No gardening for me, though my little houseplants do require the occasional drop of water. Mary and Choco, I'll come help you in yours - apartment dwelling makes me miss getting my hands dirty.

Maui - Roadtrip time is happy time for hubby and I. We have our best 'connecting' time when we're on the road. We even have a pretty little hybrid car (eco freaks who live in oil country!!) that sips gas. We'll do a bit of singing, but a lot of THIS trip will be one driving while the other naps. We've got a terrible push to get out there, and our first leg is a less-than-awesome 20 hrs straight. Ew. (anyone have an audio-book they can lend/suggest me?) (and to answer your previous question, I don't know Dan - he just replied first to my post on the team wall!)

SLD - I'm getting excited for you for your move, I'm sending good vibes your way.

Climbing plans for Saturday have changed - we're going to Sunshine now, and bringing extra people. Those plans might change again, as my hubby and I just purchased... a grand piano. Depending on when the movers are free, that may be my Saturday instead. (and yes, we're shoving a 7 foot long piano in my 900 sq ft apartment. Our neighbours will love us)

OOh, too much to think about.
Wine cellar sounds like a good plan for a Friday night! Who else wants to join Mary, Maui and I?

Good morning dear deckies!

Wow - we have alot to celebrate on the deck this weekend! A new baby, a grown-up baby moving close to home, bountiful gardens (sorry about yours, Wood, I can relate - little green worms have decided my cucumbers are a perfect place for spelunking emoticon ), bird sitings, chores accomplished, new deckies (Welcome Tay! - I'm new myself), wonderful walks on the beach, upcoming adventures! Let's have a big cookout before Wood and Tay leave on their road trips!

Maui sorry I missed the waterfall last night but I'll meet you in the wine cellar tonight!

Enjoy the day! emoticon

evening deckies-
I think I am gonna stay in the pool tonight. Hot day, hot night, lotsa chores...great day really, but now I need the pool.
I think I'll grab some of the pink floaties, and drift on over to the waterfall and listen to the soothing water falling. Of course, I snuck into the wine cellar first (for those who were wondering.)

Choc- Glad your lawn was dry enough to mow. And yes...it counts as exercise. Yep, close encounters are special. I have a bird feeder right outside my kitchen window. And with all the time I spend in there, I really get quality time with my hummers. Yesterday, a friend and I hooped in the car to drive to the coast. The ocean temps typically here in northern California, will forever keep me out of the water...COLD! But yesterday the ocean was 8 degrees warmer than normal, a record high temp. This brought anchovies into the bay and the whales followed,. we walked, strolling kinda, for miles, heading south, whale watching, feet in the sand, chatting away. Wow...nice. Sad part is...we shouldn't be seeing whales this time of year. must be part of this whole global warming. But it was a perfect day.

Tay- Ahhh...road trip. Yep, sitting can be rough! But time with hubby, chatting and gazing at the scenery as it passes by...love it. Do you sing in the car??? hehehe...we do. :) Any pasks on the itinerary?

Wood- good to chat today, sorry I was in such a rush to that appoitment! Sheesh...crazy day. So, hows the back after a day of rest? You did rest right? And like you, I too love the generational games. Uno- hehe...you know I can play that one. Bass look out is right! Tradition eh? Nice how you go back every year. Are the grandkids going with you? any waterskiing on the list? You sure have the toys to take along, that's for sure.
Thanks for checking in with me, I'll try and give you a proper chat tomorrow.

Like I said , the waterfall is calling.
Anyone up late, can join .me. The water is perfect. :)

Become the change you wish to see in the world.

Wood, this place is heaven. Nothing better than a morning hot-tub, and a good afternoon outdoors. Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm sure you'll see me around lots!

Choc: Good luck with those chores. At least yard chores allow you to be outside... right? Right??

I'm going climbing in Wasootch (Kananaskis) on the weekend. I wanna get it all in now, as I'm about to embark on a two-week cross-country roadtrip with the husband. Lotsa sittin'. Not a lotta doin'.

Have a great day all!

Wood... Oh yeah, pour that cup of coffee! Beautiful morning here as well... Bright blue sky, sunny and 52 degrees! I love mornings like this! (Just came back inside from the hot tub!)

Maui... So cool about the hawk! Love it when we get a chance for a close encounter with nature's critters! Great news about your son too! Woo Hoo!!!!!

Welcome to all the new deckies!

Lots of house & yard chores "calling my name" (I'm trying hard to ignore the call, LOL) ... Hope to get out for a short hike some time this morning... Been too long since I've hit the trails... Taking care of my sister's Bernese Mt Dog this week and next so maybe will take her along for the walk....Then house cleaning and yard work will probably be the afternoon agenda

Storms have once again passed through and today promises to be a beautiful day: cooler, breezy and with a lot less humidity!

Went to a progressive UNO night last night where the players ranged in age from 4 to 80. I love events that put adults and kids on an equal level. Healthy for all of us!

Lots of good news at your end Maui!!! I can see why you're so excited! I'll be around most of the day if you want share more of whats going on!

SDL - I can see where alcohol and walking the wire may be hazardous to one's .....well just about hazardous to one's everything!!!! However wounds heal quickly on the deck. It seems to me that things are just about exciting at your end as they are at Maui's! Lots of change! Lots of excitement! Life is good!

TAY - "What goes on here?" is a really loaded question on "The Deck". Basically we're a bunch of "real" outdoor fanatics that hang about on our virtual "Deck". Here we share our adventures, our bucket lists, our silliness, our accomplishments as well as our frustrations. Most importantly of all, we share ourselves and we become good friends who support each other and who laugh a lot! You'll find "The Deck" has just about everything you can imagine: a hot tub, an Olympic size swimming poot with a waterfall, a climbing wall, firepit, Rose garden, treehouse, volleyball court, a very well stocked wine cellar, a nearby stream with a swimming hole and rope swing, and just about anything you can imagine! Some of "The Deckies" have been with me for over 8 years, but we're always open to new people who love the outdoors and love fun. It's a place where the real world and the imagination come together. As one of my friends put it, here we become a "virtual reality". Welcome to "The Deck".

If any of the rest of you want to add to that description, please feel free to do so.

So the deck has a new baby, "Olivia Rose"!!!! Now just how cool is that!!!! Congratulations KPO!

Choc - You ready for that 3rd cup of coffee? I'll pour! Real pleasant early morning hot tub this morning with the temps in the 60's and that Canadian breeze coming through the mountains.

Speaking of Canada. Almost ready for my next excursion there! Look out bass!

Luv is heading to a quilt show with her buddies today. I was supposed to be working on a trail cleanup with the local hiking club, but, alas, playing with a sore back right now and decided that playing with a chainsaw on the mountainside just might not be the best thing to do. I'll stick with lighter exercise today!

Have a great Thursday everyone!

Life is good!

Happy Hump Day evening all,
Gosh, I have been away too long to catch up.

Dan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hello!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very good to see you stop by. You would have loved what I made for supper! Though of you and here you are! Please let us know how you have been!
And yes...

K-Po has a beautiful baby girl, born July 20. :)

Tay- welcome! Glad to have you stop by and join the deck! How do you know Dan?

Wood- so sorry about those garden pests! All that rain has not helped I am sure. We get powdery mildew on our squash when its too wet. My garden has been keeping me busy busy. I think by Friday the peaches and plums will all be done...whew.

SD- POD and moving...that'll keep you busy.Such an exciting time really. New home. I have not moved in a really long time, not sure how I would do it. But I do think about it from time time. Not sure where I would go though. Hehe...Wood remembers everything... LOL.

Kay- you off on another adventure?

Choc- hey you, with all the water you have had, are the lakes for yaking the best ever???

C_ So what's this week's crop? My cukes and green beans are going crazy. I have been making fermented pickles by the crock and now have some green beans fermenting. This wild fermentation is new for me. Do you ferment? Can? Freeze? or everything?

I though of my deck friends this morning. I have redwood tripods, lashed together, when I grown my cantaloupes and cukes. Atop one tripod this morning was a huge hawk, sitting and turning his head, scanning my garden. At fist I thought he might be an owl. I am not sure what he is hunting, gophers, lizards...not sure.Wish I could have gotten a picture, but I didn't want to run for my camera and miss watching him. After he flew off he landed on the nearby telephone pole and the hummers from my yard, flew up by him, circled and darted at him, trying to scar him off. It was quite a show. Wood, you had your Heron visiting...very cool.

My other news is my son is moving back near me on Saturday. He has taken a job at a solar research company, Solar Junction. Very cool. Great job, hoping to help the planet, and he and his fiancee are now close by, 12 minutes away. This Mama is happy!

Life is good!
Hugs all

Ah, yes, yes! Wood, why must you bring that up. I have some scrapes in some places that you don't wanna know about! Haha. It was fun, nonetheless. You all are a bunch of trouble-makers!

It's been a little fast-paced over here. I've worked a couple extra shifts (I need the money!) and am still over here packing and cleaning! I've got a POD arriving tomorrow that I'll have packed by Monday afternoon and then I turn the keys in on Wed. Crashing with the BFF Thu-Sun and then unloading the POD at my new place the following Monday! Just a week and a half - almost there!

I hope everyone is enjoying their week! Happy Wednesday!

Good morning OP!

Dan? Dan?? I sort of remember a Dan that used to hang around here!! LOL! Welcome back Buddy!

Choc, when I get sloppy with my eating/drinking, it's almost always because one of 2 reasons: 1) social events (including family events) and 2) the emotional trigger! Why is it that as soon as things get us down or just out of sorts we immediately turn to the fattening stuff to "make us feel better"? Sad part is that it usually does not really make me feel better. I just beat myself up for putting on weight! You'll get back on the wagon again.

As I'm sitting here typing but still looking out my window, I have a beautiful great blue heron sitting in the top of a tree preening himself. He's an old guy with a really long beard. I see them all the time along my stream when I'm fishing, but have never had one sit where I can see it from my porthole to my local natural world.

Mary - I think you'll find the rock wall on both sides of the waterfall great climbing! If you need pointers on the climbing we have our resident expert, Kay, who I'm sure will be happy to help you out. If you want to repel down the rock face, I might be able to help. Of course, if you're just looking for advice on building muscle, Snow as well as Kay, would be the one's to see. Most of my strength training comes from my major outdoor activities; wood cutting and wood splitting. (which you're welcome to help with!)

Speaking of which, Snow, you haven't been hanging out at the woodshed while I split wood for a long time!

Maui - My vegetable garden looks worse than ever. Bugs in the squash and the tomatoes have some sort of blight! UGH! Not my year for the garden! Glad yours is doing much better.

SDL - Haven't seen you since you were consuming enough alcohol to perform the dance on the high wire! Hope you didn't get injured! Good week at camp?

Speaking of camp, guess Charity is in the backwoods with 100 teens! Yikes! Now that sounds like a challenge!

C_ - Killing zuchs by touching them when they're wet? Didn't know that, but it may be just one more reason my garden looks so bad this year! I'll have to check that out!

Well, no grandkids today but a lot to do before my next Canada trip in a few days! Time to get to work!

Life is good!

Just popping in to say hi... Been kind of "AWOL" from the deck this week... Just "life" craziness keeping me away (nothing serious) ... Hoping things will settle down by the end of the week... I definitely need to get "back to work" on my diet and exercise goals (again "life craziness" ...and my own lack of Will power/emotional eating to blame for sabotaging those goals ... Not an excuse, so I need to "snap out of" this funky mood ASAP!)

Hope everyone is having a great week... Will try to read back through the posts I've missed later to catch up....

Good morning all!

Paddling was delayed and shortened by rumbles of thunder so I didn't make it all the way to the harbor but did spend about an hour on the creek - very peaceful and relaxing - except when I passed a bunch of rowdy 10 year olds in the creek having a pluff mud battle! Life is good in the lowcountry!

Kay - Hope your travels are going great!

Wood - glad you had a great weekend! Enjoy those gks!

I'm attempting to add some muscle to my arms - wish me luck - strength training is not my forte! Maybe we can build a climbing wall at the deck! Or better yet - are there any good rock climbing spots near the waterfall?

Pura Vida! emoticon

Well once again I thought I posted from my tablet from the campground and once again there's nothing here! Don't know what the story is!

We had a great weekend! - country dancing, hiking, biking, adult water gun battle and a crawfish catching contest! Top it off, I went fishing last night and caught a bunch of smallmouth bass and a huge catfish! Life is good!

Today and tomorrow, we're gk sitting. 2 today. 4 tomorrow.

Hope you all had a great weekend!

Welcome back Pam.

The car is almost packed...just waiting for some rice to cook, and we'll be out of here.

It's been cloudy all morning, and we got some sprinkles earlier, but the forecast is for thundershowers today (30% chance) and clear the rest of the week, so hoping that holds up!

If I don't get to sneak on deck for the rest of the week, have a great one!

Hope everyone got some fresh air today!

Just a little for me but my kayak is calling my name for tomorrow...

Have a great trip Kay! Pam I'm a newbie so not sure we've met but try not to work so hard that you don't get to the deck! (I work too hard in my opinion but am lucky that work is less than 2 miles from home.)

Wood - hope you and your better half will give us some country dance lessons when you get back!

Tequila, peaches, ladderball, zumba, whatever your heart desires, it's all here!

We're headed out of town as well....made it to Cabela's, my first time there. I got a little camp table that was a hit, and a soft sided cooler that was a miss....so Larry will bring that back, and maybe pick up the reclining camp chair to replace the one that broke. I don't think we'll be able to bring it on this trip, but it is a comfy chair.

I've picked 3 more tomatoes from my garden! Had 3 for lunch yesterday (they are Early Girl, so pretty small). YUMMY!

Yeah Kay, I LOVE the activity here on the deck lately! Lots of great outdoor people doing great things.

I am really enjoying all the youth stuff going on. Kids into the woods of Alaska, summer camps, Bible school, games with your teenage kids.

Also like all the diversity of activities among ourselves: stranding vans on rocks, gardening, hiking, biking, tennis. It's been busy, busy BUSY!

....and of course, what is it that I like best? Seeing the return of the silly play here on "The Deck". Ladderball challenges, pink floaties, zumba on the high wire and a return to the swimming hole down at the creek. Let the imaginations run!

Yep Maui - new toys are great! Ah heck! So are the old ones! I just like toys!

Good luck with the combo week Mary! Get out there and enjoy kicking some serious butt!

Off to a weekend of country dancing and campfires! Don't know if I'll have WiFi or not. So in the meantime, have a great weekend everyone!

Life is good!

Oh, man, it's been too long since I've peeked in on deck, and it's all full of games, tightropes, zumba dancing and tequila?

It's been a crazy week...I've been walking in all week, and Larry's friend is here from Boston. So lots to do...and no time to Spark! But I was able to switch my days off, so now I can head down with them when they do their Sierra adventure, instead of just meeting up for a few days. Weird weather we've been having lately, thunderstorms, strange skies, lightening last night...

Nice to see everyone out and enjoying so much summer thought!

Snow, it will certainly be hilarious I'd I lose and have to Zumba on a tight rope. I don't think I've mentioned it on here but I am NOT the best dancer! Lol ill just have to step up my game!

Charity, your trip with the teens sounds awesome! I'm a camp counselor, myself. On any given day I have between 15-30 kids in k-8. We play games, swim, and do art/science/cooking projects every week. It's loads of fun but draining some days. I got home today after 4 solid days and just wanted a beer and my couch.

Wood, idk how you do it. You are just always moving and shaking! Your family is fortunate to have such an active and positive person in their lives.

Well, time to eat dinner! I need my energy for this game of ladderball with Snow. But more than that, I need some alcohol in me so I can actually perform this Zumba dance when I inevitably lose! Haha. Let the games begin!

Been crazy busy lately because Summer Camp starts Monday. We're taking 100 teens to the Alaskan backwoods and i have a ton to do! But thought I'd stop in and say a quick "hi"

Wood - Yes, we managed to get the van out of the woods and The Hubs swears he will never do that again. We shall see. Seems like I've heard that before, but this time was a doozey so maybe...

Took a teen hiking yesterday and have another scheduled today. For the first time ever I had the thought that maybe I'm too old for youth work. How long can I keep up with these kids? LOL! Motivates me to keep at the weight loss and fitness. Gotta travel light when moving at this speed...

Gotta run! I'm in charge of stage design at camp and we're doing a vintage train station theme. Got to create some antique looking railroad signs before today's hike. See ya later!

With all the big talk from Wood I thought I better bring my tennis team to the deck...we don't take it easy on anybody! Picture is us celebrating just after winning combo state championship last October...o.k. it wasn't very high level tennis (6.5 which means a 3.5 partners with a 3.0) and it was 40+ age group...but still it's a great memory...sadly life, kids, work & injuries prevented us from continuing our dream at sectionals in January and many of us have been bumped up by the USTA to the next level so this combo season will be at 7.5 instead of 6.5...but what a great group! you can see we are the bad news bears of the tennis world...we were probably the only team at state without coordinating outfits!

Match was rained out last night ): but I did a cardio dance DVD then when the rain subsided took little Harry on a 2 mile walk...going to do some yoga now (outside on the deck!) then get ready for work...

Enjoy your macarenas, hikes, runs, hummingbirds, grandchildren and busy days!

Good morning OP!

Fast and furious day here as well! First of all, we'll be "sitting" two of our grandkids today while Mom (FUNSHAM) is at a training session. They'll be here in about a half hour. GD wants to see if she can run 3 miles with me. That should be fun! Also gotta service our tandem bike, pack for our camp/dance weekend, and mow the yards. Oh yeah and then it's our last night of Bible school as well. Should be a great day!

Snow - It was funny watching that little Macarena thing! However, I do hope you win this time. Having Malia Zumba on her aerial rope should be quite interesting as well!

Maui - Don't let Snow talk you into anything foolish on that hike today! I'd love to listen in to that conversation the two of you must have while hiking! I can only imagine! ...and the pink floaties?....just remember what happens here on the deck stays on the deck! I wouldn't want any of those pics to get out to my hunting buddies!

Got to get ready for the kids! Have a great day everyone!

Live! Love! Laugh!!!!

I cant believe that when Malia beats me at ladder ball.... I have to dance the Macarena while barking like a seal!! Good grief, if it wasn't for the tequila shots before hand, I would have been too embarrassed! But now Im going to challenge her to a little Zumba contest and see if she is up to "shaking the girls" while doing some fast tricky footwork ..... did I say she has to do that while walking that aerial rope? Hmmmmmmm ..... interesting idea.

Wood- I didn't get lost, just found a trunk full or your baby pictures emoticon and fell asleep with a bunch of them in my hand.... pink flowers in your hair even back then.... hmmmmm Maui, who knew??!!

Gym class in the am, meeting Maui for a hike after that - and to work by 1.... fast and furious morning.... you know she and I will be talking up a storm while taking in the outdoors.....

Bed is calling, running on a sleep deficit this week... time to catch up....hello to everyone and be safe and sleep tight emoticon ***SNOW*** emoticon

Worried...well...not me! hahaha...this Ladderball is especially fun after a couple drinks.
Mary, don't worry, Wood is seriously competitive, but what fun! This way we all play our best. And let me tell you, we 'girls' are just as competitive...lol.
Fun fun!

Wood- Glad to hear you are enjoying that new bike! New toys are great!

SD- hehehe...bark like a seal, that would be funny...your game night sounds quite fun!

Oh...and Wood, I am not sure I'd agree with 'everyone wants to make Wood look bad'...lol...why else would we prop you up with pink floaties in the hot tub when you are tired?

Become the change you wish to see in the world.

Okay Mary but I hope you're up to the challenge! I take my game playing pretty serious! Especially with this group here. You'll find that everyone wants to make Wood look bad and when someone does I have trouble living it down. Sodon't expect me to be easy on you just becase you're new! Great new pic SD! I like to change my profile pic often to remind me how lucky I am to have many things in my life that make me smile...so take a good look at my happy little shihteranian, Harry, with his precious stick...I will probably be bringing someone or something new to the deck the next time I visit! 5s sounds like a blast! Games with kids are the best!

These days my 15yo and his friends are into Texas hold em...I love it when the games are at our house...they crack me and each other up...my husband usually joins the game...I usually just listen and laugh and provide snacks!

hey Wood...sorry I missed ladderball last night! Yesterday was one of those days that involved 3 hours of driving time chauffeuring my son...last activity (basketball game) didn't end until 8...was too pooped to party by the time I fed us all...I'll stop by tonight after my tennis match for a quick game (you might want to practice up, I've got a feeling I'm going to be a natural, heehee)...combo league cranks up this week...love, love, love the girl I'm playing with tonight - so much fun!

Enjoy the day!

I'm going to have to look up this ladderball game. Never heard of it! I learned a game tonight called 5's and the winner gets to make the loser do something silly. I lost twice and the 11 year old that won both times made me lay on the ground and bark like a seal the first time, and the 2nd time I had to dance the macarena, lol. What a fun dinner party with some great people. Even made a few connections for possible jobs!

Wood, I love that you're enjoying that bike so much. Makes me excited to buy mine next month. I'm going to talk to a friend who is an avid rider this weekend since I know nothing about bikes.

Well, the evening is winding down and the turtles are harassing me for some play time, so off I go!

SDL - Love the new profile pic! Shows the whole world your spirit of adventure! You're awesome! ...and exciting news on the new place! I think we should all come over for a housewarming party!

Snow - Where are you? You said you'd be in the treehouse tonight, but I can't find you. Hiding?

Mary - Cornhole is popular here as well. As a matter of fact, it has probably taken over first position for favorite picnic game away from ladder ball. We have both and enjoy them equally. In fact, I challenge you (or anyone else who's game) for a game of ladder ball tonight on the deck.

Charity a heck of a day for sure!!!! So did you get the van off the rock yet? I pulled a similar stunt last year, but with my boat up in Canada. Put it on a rock that I even knew was there but got careless. Could not get it off because I had to pull the motor up so I wouldn't damage it! Needed help to get off. One of my more embarrassing moments on the water.

Pouring down rain here again tonight! So far no severe storms although they're predicted. At least they waited until we got home. Been a busy week again. This time a lot of our time has been taken up because we volunteered to help out at Bible school. I'm the recreation director (of course, they're all rowdy games and the kids I have loved it.) and Gloria is the craft leader (quilts of course). Did manage to get a good ride in this afternoon on my new bike. Loving the new approach to exercise!

Okay, now that game of ladderball.
Life is good!

All the sunburns look to be bronzing nicely. There might be a little peeling on my shoulders but nothing extreme. The kids are no longer in pain, which is nice.

Got word today that I can move into my place within the first couple days of August! Guess the tenants just needed a fire under their bums to find a new one. When I said I'd move in a few days later than its availability date, I was told that since there will be time, if I buy the paint, my friends/landlords will pay a professional painter! Totally rad! So now a trip to home depot is in order. :-)

Today is a social day. Caught up with my cohort from grad school and am going to a dinner party this evening. Getting ready to head out for some live jazz as an appetizer.

Happy Tuesday, everyone! Snow, enjoy the treehouse! I think I'll hang out with the turtles under the waterfall tonight.

The hummers are madly dashing around and enjoying some hanging flower baskets surrounding the feeder.... they seem to approve of my front patio rearranging emoticon Im getting to know one of the little females better, she is so curious about me! I think I may be able to touch her in a week or two if Im lucky, maybe stroke her back when she naps on the Japanese Maple.

Running to the gym, but just one class because I have some heavy lifting to do in the yard work department today, I want to be able to move for the evening spin and zumba classes !
Have a great day everyone.... Im going to be up in the tree house this evening ....little telescoping.... emoticon .***SNOW***

Good afternoon all!

Beautiful but hot here...taking a lunch break at work right now...no basketball activities for ds after work today so I will have some "me time" to get outside emoticon

Kay I hope your toenails and garden are growing! I don't play singles much anymore but I remember on my birthday 9 years ago I played a 4 hour singles match on hard courts and had to have a podiatrist drill holes in both big toenails 2 days later...so disgusting...that was in April and I spent that summer wearing bandaids where my big toenails should have been when I had on flip-flops or sandals...worst part was it was a league make-up match and I was the only one on the team playing that day and was supposed to meet my teammates after my match so they could treat me to a birthday lunch...but by the time I got there they had already eaten and had to go back to work or pick up their kids! (p.s. I won the match so that eased my toe pain and the disappointment of missing lunch!)

SD - I hope your little lobsters' skin has cooled and bronzed!

Snow - I have never played ladderball but I'm going to get a set and take it to the next outdoor party I attend! Corn hole is the big party game around here but I hang with a competitive bunch so they will love a new game! WOW - competitive surfing in Hawaii!!! That is amazing - you had to have a core of steel not to mention arms and legs! I can't imagine be able to do that - even just out of high school...what a great skill set you have in storage if you ever want to dust it off!!!!

Wood - so glad you had an amazing hike with like-minded buddies!

Charity - oh my gosh! Crazy day indeed! Sounds like you ended up getting even more exercise than your original plan! So glad you're safe! What about your van - have you rescued it yet?

Enjoy your day!

Mary

Wood - you are blessed to find likeminded folks!

We had a crazy day today. I intended to bike about 13 miles to local Butte and hike it. But The Husband caught up with me in the van, hiked the Butte with me and then wanted to check out a backwoods trail. In the van. Sigh.

We got high-centered way in the heck no where. Had to leave the van and hike out about 6 miles on very rough trail.I had thrown my bike in the van and had to carry it out (my road bike, no way it could handle that terrain). We had to cross a glacial stream and then when we finally found a road, I had to get on my bike and back to where I had left the car and then come back and pick up DH.

We are sooooo lucky it wasn't winter!

The group of people I hiked with today were amazing! All within 10 years of me and all young at heart. I needed a day wi th that kind of group.
