emoticon Taking my mid-morning break - garden and boat work from 6-10 this morning

Making a list for the rest of the day - lots to do!

Jo - I can do simple repairs - this was easy because I was replacing with exact thing that broke and still had the old wire in place so could use that to pull new wire through the hull.
Hope you and friend loved the movie!

Have a great Memorial Day Eve everyone!

Pura Vida!

Happy Saturday!

Jo - yep - Harry looks much better! Hope you had more nice weather today and got out with the kiddos!

Kay - Sorry about your seedlings emoticon so disappointing - especially when you started from seeds - still hoping they perk up for you! Son got back yesterday afternoon - nice to have things "normal" even if it's not for too much longer. Hope you enjoyed the wine - but not too much! emoticon

Hope the rest of you are enjoying some outdoor time this weekend!

Today was mom transportation day so mostly in train, car, stores, etc but early this morning I was out doing a boat repair (transducer for depth finder broke away so had to mount and wire up a new one) and heading out again now to check the garden...

Creek party tonight? I'm ready to get in the water instead of driving over it on bridges!

Pura vida!

All caught up on my e-mails, thanks for checking on on that! Yesterday I turned the corner, and by this afternoon I finally caught up on most of the rest of my stuff. It was nice and quiet today with the holiday this weekend, lots of folks getting a head start!

Jo, sorry to hear about your twitter friend, I may have to check out the story.

Maui, it took me 2 weeks and lots of rest to feel almost human...this is a wicked bug!

Kelpie, hope the water class was fun!

Mary, are you still empty nested? I'm jealous of your veggie success, most of my seedlings seem to have bit the dust, perhaps they caught a virus as well? I may resort to buying starts if they all die. I'll probably have to for some things I didn't get seeds for anyway.

Our neighbors have invited us for wine tonight, so I guess that's my second day for this week! emoticon

Quick fly by...taking doggie to his beauty parlor at 8...

Jo - hope you get some sunshine today!

Maui - Mr. Rogers, so sweet, did make me cry emoticon
Have you seen a doc? If you think you're close to pneumonia I think it's time my friend! My strep tests were negative but doc put me on amoxicillin anyway (first antibiotic for me in 20+ years) and that's when I turned the corner - so maybe was bacterial for me or maybe virus ran its 5 day course and was giving up - I'll never know for sure. Hope today is much better for you!

Ok off I go with Harry

Have a great day!

Deckies/Friends,

Jo- emoticon so much sadness surrounding all this global human evilness and tragedy. I also really appreciate how there is such goodness in the world. I count this place as quite a special place.. Like you said Jo. I find hope here with amazing kind and wise folks. Yesterday I posted this on my fb page. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/
na
tion-now/2017/05/23/mr-rogers-story-R>probably-make-you-cry/340111001/

Like Mr Rogers says...always look for helpers. Watch the video if you have not yet. Love that kind man.
Anyhow, I find this place a reliable loving place to look for helpers. Thank you to all of you.

Mary- Lucky day! haha...lottery ticket. I have never purchased one...but what fun that'd be to have the funds to rethink how we use our time. I'd buy a farm!!!!!!!!!! What would you do?

I am still sick, maybe have not yet turned the corner. What the heck???
But I am trying to use my time well...reading a ton.
I am reviewing healthy relationship books! There is always more to learn.
My intent is to select a mini library to give to my adult married children a set of books to help guide them toward the healthiest relationships they can have. (They are all super happy) But in this modern world , they work so hard, and live with so much depending upon the 2 of them (Not much extend family time) best to make sure that time is well managed and aavoid pitfalls.
I have a couple so far that seem quite good!!!
Haha...a mother's job never done.

emoticon Jo emoticon I saw your Corrie/Twitter friend on the news as well. Such a kind and happy person. So tragic.

Kelpie - Have fun at aqua dance! Sounds like quite an honor and great opportunity for your daughter!

Kay - have you caught up on your emails?

Maui - more improvement and more sleep I hope! Yesterday was my lucky day emoticon we got the gentle showers (only 1/2 inch) I wished for and no storms! I should have bought a lottery ticket!

Choc - thought about you on Tuesday when we had thunderstorms - my pup gets very upset like your sister's dog - has your sister tried a thunder-shirt for her dog (if they make them big enough!)? It really helps Harry.

Storms with lots of rain and wind seemed certain yesterday so I got my workout moving the veggies I have growing in a dozen large containers onto the screened porch and back out again this morning. Rode my bike to a yoga class this morning!

I'm heading over to emoticon connection - it's time for me to hit the reset button for my goals!

Have a great day! Waterfall later?

Pura vida!

Jo, I know the young man you mean, I have seen him on the news. He was so full of life and fun. It is said that we all know someone who knows someone, I didn't expect it to be here on the deck. So so sad.

Maui, hope you are feeling more like yourself.

Kay, ditto

Mary, empty nest, I know, I know.

Holiday here, so about to go and try out aqua dance, then pick my daughter up from the airport at lunchtime. She's been helping to organise a conference on social economics in Marrakesh. Her former head of studies asked for her help, so good for her, and good for networking. It was of course for French speaking countries.

I'd better get the dog in, and get myself moving.

Have a great day everybody

gee Maui hope each day finds you better ---you got walloped ..

May empty nest really never got to have that ... but all is good ..
hope you do not get severe weather ---we are to have rain all day tomorrow .. but no high winds .

(Corrie is Coronation Street -- I have watched it since I was 19 years old --lol)
anyway wanted to share ..
On twitter I follow this hilarious/ serious guy that loves Corrie and loves (Audrey)( my age passed away last year) and I loved her character on the show... any way he always tweets stuff about Corrie
Well he was at the AG concert --- tweeted he was off to the leu .... that was the end
We found out he was killed when he went off to the washroom.. this is just so surreal... I mean I cried about the 8 year old gal --- cried a little for them all but now ... so much more close to the heart ...

guess we are all close --the earth is small .... with this new technology we have ...we become close to each other even if we have never met
you all have touched my life ---thank you for being here..

Good morning deckies!

Beautiful morning here - sunny and 72f! emoticon but it's not going to last - storms heading our way again this afternoon - my unofficial rain gauge says I got 4.5 inches yesterday! We are now above normal rainfall for the year! The year started out so dry I was pretty worried about drought possibilities - today flooding in the area is the worry.

Son is in Orlando - so I'm getting a taste of an empty nest - I don't like it!

Had a nice walk earlier - now off to the garden to weed and fertilize before the next round of showers (I'm going to think showers instead of storms and hope the weather won't be as severe as they're predicting.)

Maui - still sending you get well vibes - hope today is less of a struggle!

Have a great day everyone!

Pura vida!

Maui... so sorry to hear you're not feeling well! Please take care of yourself, get plenty of rest and hope you feel better soon!

As for my garden, all sweet peppers (yellow, green and purple)... I'm not much of a fan of "hot & spicy" peppers
.... the melons are 1 honey dew and a small variety of a watermelon (never tried growing melons before so will be interesting on how they do)... today I planted more strawberries and 2 more grape plants (green & purple)... also planted some "snow on the mountain" around 2 trees in my front yard.

Had my sister's two big Bernese Mountain Dogs for a 3 day weekend...
Was good having dogs in my house again (after losing my pooch in April
... made me realize how much I miss having a dog around!) all went well with the 2 Big dogs except for the one night we had a thunderstorm (one of the dogs is afraid of storms & she pretty much kept me awake "calming" her down for a couple hours that night poor doggie!) ... my cats are pretty happy the big dogs have gone back home, (cats hid most of the weekend that the dogs were here, LOL)

Going out to dinner to celebrate a friend's birthday in a bit so I better go get ready... will try to stop back later,
Have a great Monday everyone!
Choc :)

Just keep swimming!

Never give up!

Welp, I have had a hard few days. I am fine, kinda. Sick as can be and trying to get hold of this. Guess it was my turn.
Slowed my abilities for sure. I haven't even been for a walk since last Thursday. Such is life.

Hubby got it first. HE sounds worse than me. I made his stay in a different bedroom and away from me, and still I caught it. Might be the same thing Kay and Mary had....my eyes even hurt. Ack. My cooking abilities are not helping cause I am not cooking. Haven't felt this bad in a long while.

But wow...such wonderful Deck happiness...

Kelpie, the family tree...such love...thank you for sharing. (My tissues are right here, maybe the tears helped clear my head a bit...haha. Sophro time...good.

Kay- Glad Larry's surgery is over and doc got some of the fluff out. Important for his joint inflammation. Yep super warm couple days, and after all the work I have done in the front and back over the last year, what a horrible time to be sick!!!!

Jo- weather turning...it seems to be quite on a roller coaster here too...hot col hot cold...this is all so hard on the plants!!
Missing Ruby, yes yes...our dear pets. I always had pets, both dogs and cats, and for over a year now, I have no pet inside. (We do have an elderly very feral cat out back, but she doesn't let us touch her. Hard to miss our pet family members. I really notice it being sick. My kitties would always babysit me so well, when I was sick. :(

Choc- your garden report sounds fantastic!!!! What kind of melons??? Hot or sweet peppers?? Home grown melons is one of those things I jst love. I was yet again surprised last year how glorious the cantaloupes were fresh..so sweet and flavor full!!!! I bet you were tired.

Mary...yes...garden keeps me busy. The fava beans are in teh freezer ( I picked the rest, and pulled the plants and was supposed to be in the process of replanting, but I need to get better first.
Oh gosh, this is much be quite an emotional time for you and your son. Thinking about you. What a wonderful time.
Cute pic.
My son's sugar is still up around 250. I am stressed because while we are so sick we can only speak on line. VERY hard for me.Doc is concerned about the rate of increase of insulin. And its impossible to predict how the body might stall or change how its responding...so his increases are going to continue slowly.
Hard hard stuff...but to fast a rate could be fatal. careful is best.
Did you get out for your paddle??
Unplugged ...your was planned, mine was not. Just could muster up the resource to read and post. Sorry. I must report in so no one worries. Brain fried.

Lovely sentiments from your children, Kelpie, what a wonderful gift!

I'm off work today, scheduled my monthly sauna/massage so I'd have a 4 day weekend w/ Larry's surgery day off. Should be a good thing for my muscles!

My seedlings did not like being out in the sun yesterday....I probably left them out a bit too long, so I gave them some more water, and I'll see which ones perk up and which have bit the dust! emoticon I'm hesitant to plant them until they seem a bit heartier.

Busy busy, all of us.

Jo, if you were in tears earlier, just read on.
Here's a photo of the family tree, and the next bit
Something that each of the kids appreciate about me
"Never giving up on me despite all the crap I put you through"
"Driving and driving and driving us around for activities to keep us busy"
"Encouraging us to be who we truly are"
"Organising the best birthday parties a child could ask for"

It makes me happy to read and write that.

So all, enjoy your families, they are so precious.

Coffee and tissues!

I hope to get some planting done today, seems like we all have the same idea? emoticon

Larry's limping along...I think it's more painful than he expected (he said as much) and it's making him a bit grumpy, and my "banging" around in the kitchen is not helpful! So I'm trying to do the banging when he is up...I did today's recipe early in any case, now I have breakfast for the week, eggs, sausage and veggie muffins, as well as baked a bunch of bacon my dad sent up last time we were at his place.

Whelp, I do want to get out, it's really nice out today, sunny with a slight breeze...

Happy Sunday!

A little planting going on here as well - but more weeding and tending and harvesting than planting this week! Cucumbers daily for the last few weeks, my first vine-ripe tomatoes and a few okra pods and peppers.

Kay - how's Larry ankle feeling - did you get some planting done?

Choc - what a busy work day! You deserved hot tub for sure!

Jo - hope it didn't rain too hard! so you're a puzzler too! I don't do them often but do enjoy.

Kelpie - what a nice restaurant surprise - I googled and read a blog review of Le Denti - made me want to catch the next flight to Geneva and head straight to Annecy! emoticon emoticon http://tasteofsavoie.com/2016/07/06/le-den
ti-annecy/

Maui - how are you? How is your son? - I'm hoping his levels are down in the"100s" by now - maybe even below 100? I bet your garden is exploding!

Did my morning garden chores, now enjoying a little break. Son's baccalaureate ceremony is this afternoon. I have the tissues ready! Then the seniors leave at 4am Tuesday morning for 4 day class trip to Orlando. What a fun way to end high school! - of course, son's life is pretty fun just hanging out with friends around here. Lots of boating on saltwater creeks this weekend!

Time for me to sneak in a quick paddle! Hope you all get out today too!

Pura vida!
Mary

hi ladies

read everyone's posts --keeping busy

Kelpie you had me in tears ... how lovely the family tree...
I liked what you said not global warming but weather changing ...indeed.

Choc as always we are having the same weather ..almost..
We got our planting done today ...not sure if it was a good idea... as really turned cool and rain coming... just as long as it is not a hard rain.
enjoy your dog sitting..
I miss my Ruby ...

Mary glad you unplugged for a while but did miss you.. woot woot on the huge puzzle --love doing them..

well we are watching a movie tonight
long weekend here-- we celebrate Queen Victoria's birthday May 24th ... but hold it on the first weekend before....

Kay... glad the surgery went well in spite of the delay... hope it does help Larry's pain!

Weather forecast changed a bit (a bit warmer with rain next few days) so before the rain started here I did get most of my garden planted... sweet corn, green & wax beans, 2 kinds of tomatoes, 3 kinds of peppers, 2 kinds of melons, 1 zucchini & 1 pumpkin plant... also planted a mixture differentl kinds of sun flower seeds along each side of the garden (hope that lures bees & humming birds to the garden)
... still need to buy & plant more strawberry plants... and need to weed the grapes, berry and asparagus patches.

And after all that I spent 2 hours mowing & "weed whacking" the lawn
... needless to say I am TIRED!

Ready for a hot tub soak (both real and here in our "virtual hot tub" on the deck! Anyone want to join me?)

Just keep swimming!

Never give up!

We have been warming up, so I may be able to get some planting done this weekend, so looking forward to that!

I'm on a long weekend, Larry had surgery yesterday to take the plate and screws out of his ankle, and clean up the inside of the joint a bit, hopefully that will ease his ankle pain. The surgery was delayed, so we ended up not getting home until after 7pm, but that included going out to a new (to us) Indian food restaurant. Good food! We so rarely go out to eat anymore, it was quite a treat!

it was gorgeous at 6 when I fist took the dog our, but overcast now. Choc like you and everyone else, crazy weather. I don't say global warming, I saw climate change, cos to me that is more appropriate.

Lovely surprise yesterday, Jacques took me out for dinner, to a michelin mentioned restaurant. I can't find a website for it however here is the michelin entry www.viamichelin.com/web/Restaurant/A
nn
ecy-74000-Le_Denti-400467-41102
and they have a facebook page. Langoustines and monkfish...... yummy.

Today sophro this morning, and that blog is not going to write itself, and maybe this afternoon to Aix les Bains.

So ladies, see you in the hot tub, away from the cold and damp. There's coffee and crumbless croissants!

Well, earlier post re garden plans got delayed... weather has turned cold and same predicted for almost all of next week... decided to hold off putting out seedlings or planting any seeds until end of next week when HOPEFULLY it will warm up (a couple morning low temps are "too close" to possible frost to takes chance on planting)

I did finish prepping the garden area though, laid down some weed barrier cloth, transplanted 3 pines that I had "over wintered" in the garden (now in pots for planting later this summer) ...
So even though I didn't plant veggies today I did get a lot done I guess.

Crazy weather... was almost 80 last 3 days and now rainy and in the 40's & 50's (springtime in Michigan! Sigh)

My sister's big dogs have made themselves at home here (nice having dogs around again after the loss of my pooch last month... my cats aren't as happy about the "visitors" though... both kitties pretty much hiding under the beds most of the day, LOL)

Gotta go finish laundry... have a fantastic Friday night everyone!

Just keep swimming!

Never give up!

emoticon Hey deckies! Happy Friday!

I unplugged myself from my computer for a week. Several things pointed me in that direction so I just did it. I think my favorite unplugged day was Saturday - it rained gently all day and I hung out on my screened porch putting together a 1500 piece jigsaw puzzle a friend gave to me a couple of days earlier.

I missed this team and did check in a couple of times via phone. You have been sharing some wonderful times! Next time I unplug I'll make an exception for deck time and food tracking!

Gotta run but I'll pop back in tonight.

Pura vida!

Kelpie... love the family tree comments, what a great idea!

I also have "doggie duty" this weekend, taking care of my sister's two huge Bernese Mountain dogs while my sis is up north doing a 53 mile bike ride to the Mackinaw Bridge!
(My cats are not too enthusiastic about the big visiting dogs, LOL)

Off to a doctor appointment soon, then hope to start planting my garden when I get home (corn, beans, peppers, tomatoes, zucchini, ... and for the first time trying a pumpkin & a watermelon plant... also going to plant several types of sunflowers for the birds)

Jo, enjoy your day with your son. Hope the rain holds off and you get stuff done in the garden.

The rain is back here, so taking the dog out was a short affair this morning, just round the garden.

My kids gave me a wonderful present for my 60th, and I am going to share it with you bit by bit. It's a "family tree" however written on the trunk some of their thoughts. I'm going to spread them out. The first is an important memory for them. Here they go

"Flying a kite together on our first holiday together in the Camarque after dad left"
"Ass-slapping at zumba class"
"When you applied a wet cloth to my forehead when I was in hospital"
"Teaching me to make millionaire's shortbread"

The hospital one got me, as it was when my son, then 17 over celebrated when he passed his exams, and when trying to jump on top of it, Tarzan style pulled a coca cola machine onto himself, broke 5 bones, and then developed severe peritonitis in hospital. I knew he was ill when he let me put that cloth on his forehead. That he remembers it and cherishes the action is moving. He recognised my gesture of love and concern.

Since it's raining I think I'll just hop into the tub with coffee, and some music. Here's a song the mentions Coldbackie, where my heart lies

www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkIvd2vf6f0

Have a great day everybody

Kelpie seems to be the trend these years world wide --people in a rush and driving to fast ... nasty..
wow impressive getting remembered by one of the responders ...awesome

Had a great day today out with a friend ...
Tomorrow my son stays home from work --he is taking a holiday-- so we plan on doing gardening and getting things we need to have better grass ... our place is wet in the back ...

Didn't get as much done yesterday afternoon as there was a not serious accident outside the house. My reading was that the lady was driving slightly too fast for the road, and misjudged the big tractor with even bigger material behind it. Luckily there are airbags and seat belts.

Funny thing when one of the responders came up to me and said he's been a pupil a few years back!

Have daughters dog which is nice. More walks in the garden

As always, rushing, have a great day ladies

Coffee??????

The frosts ought to be over here, as the "ice saints" have passed. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_Saints Is it this same with you Jo? And Kay?

Glad you enjoyed your outing Jo.

Choc, great to see you, and as always hear about your water adventures.

Kay, ouch indeed, hope you are better soon. It' s so frustrating being injured, isn't it?

Mary, how are you doing?

Anyone I've missed, sorry.

I've decided to spend as much of my summer as possible in Scotland. We might get my dad home for a bit if I am there, and in any case it will give my mum support. My brother is very poorly now. Sad times.

So all the more reason to find happiness when we can.

Coffee and chocolate cake this morning.

Windy here, supposed to get some rain...still waiting! But I hear it was snowing over the summit, one of my coworkers was headed that way to tend to her sick mother.

Chard gratin sounds pretty tasty! 60 jars should keep you fed for a while too, Kelpie!

Choc and Jo, I'm in the "waiting till the freeze danger is over" club too, still watching my seedlings grow, and trying to water them without killing them!

Maui, Swiss chard pizza sounds pretty yummy too!

I'm on the injured reserve again, came off the bar last night at CrossFit...I was trying to save my palm skin which had torn a bit more from the first round of toes to bar (started on Friday with the pull-ups) so I put on my lifting gloves, but I should have either only worn one, or just gone for the tape, the gloves were too slick for the bar, and I just came right off and straight down onto my "bum". And now it hurts mostly sitting stuff, even yoga this morning I could not enjoy savasana, because my butt was so tender! I'm pretty sure it's bruised. At least it's easy to ice this injury!

As usual, I'm way behind on what's going on here on the deck! Just been really busy with "outdoor spring cleaning and activities" here at home
(That's my "excuse" LOL)

Did an 8 mile river kayak outing with friends on Sunday... starting point only a 10 minute drive from home...at the start river winds through backyards & farms, then ends up winding through forests and State Game Areas... very scenic, lots of wild flowers, a few (very small) "rapids"... had to do s short portage around one fallen tree, was able to "squeeze" past 2-3 other fallen trees partly blocking the river... the rest of the river had been "cleared" (of fallen trees) by the local DNR (Dept of Natural Resources).... all in all it was a fun outing!

Rainy morning here today but supposed to clear up later so hopefully I can start prepping my garden for planting (still too early to do much planting right now because we still get some frosty mornings)

Have a Terrific Tuesday everyone!
Choc emoticon

Happy Monday Deckies!

Hey Jo, Plants!!!! Yay! Wonderful...what plants did you get?

Kelpie- Yum! So , I will now research canning chard. This I have never done. Just fresh. I make a chard pizza with fresh corn, a little bacon, and goat cheese. One of my favorite pizzas.

We make gratin with our swiss chard, it's traditional here We now add bacon pieces that Jacques has cured himself. With 60+ jars we have enough to keep us going for quite a while!

I would love some time at the beach How far to the nearest one from the deck?

Whoops, running way behind ,try to catch up later,

Jo, Mary and Choc are the regular kayaker's on deck, I've been a few times, but it's rare! Glad you are enjoying some nice weather!

Kelpie, beautiful chard! I did not know you could can it either, I've only had it fresh and sauteed...but then the ones I've tried growing were all eaten by our local critters... emoticon

Maui, nice that you got some quiet time at the beach, soothing sounds...and a nice read sounds like a lovely day!

I got out on a nice walk yesterday, took a bit longer trail, not quite 4 miles worth. It was nice (sunny) earlier today, but now it looks like the clouds are heading in along with the wind. I may just stick to the streets in the neighborhood for my walking! I did get some weeding done earlier, it's really never ending... emoticon

Hello Deckies!

Kelpie- Wow wow wow...beautiful pics! For the jars, canned swiss chard?? What recipe? I have lots of chard right now too! Looks beautiful!
Petanque- rememeber???Of course!!! Fun fun clear memory (haha...) and we have a set so we can play. Vic and Bill too! hehe...Life is good for sure.

Kay- Yes, Son's sugar is super high. I think often folks are hospitalized with numbers that high. But yes, right now I feel hopeful with doc working hard increasing the insulin and so frequently checking. I think your comment is interesting about how the body can adapt. I think his body is doing a lot of that. His BP is so high, because if they let it go too low, his heart will be too strained.
Work- invigorating!!! Well done you! I think this is fantastic...good for you! I am reading Sheryl Sanberg's book 'Option B' , yes, it's about loss, but wow, a jam packed book that's a tool kit for anyone wanting to take a situation and make the best of it...a go forward plan. Highly recommended read.

Jo- Happy Mother's Day to you too!

Hey, I made it to the beach yesterday! Walked about and sat on teh shore, listed to teh ocean, reading my book. :)

Happy Day All,
Hugs

Later today, almost wine o clock!

Spent the morning helping J with the swiss chard......

He did the harvesting and then I chopped.... 62 jars later, both tired enugh to have a nap this afternoon. For J the late night after the petanque might have had something to do with it emoticon

Weather nice today, so he's back in the garden, and I'm cooking.

It is quiet on deck, maybe we all are out and about, enjoying some fresh air?

I've really been busy at work, they made me interim director....hope I didn't make a mistake (or they didn't make a mistake) in accepting that, but I think it's good for the department stability. But I have a lot to learn about the rest of the department, not just my little corner. It's actually kind of invigorating to have a new challenge....

We're supposed to be rainy this weekend and through next week. At least I don't have to get the sprinklers worked out just yet!

Maui, those sugars are high, but great that his (new?) doctor is taking so much time and care to get them down. I think I've heard some people get used to higher sugars, and get hypoglycemic symptoms with sugars most people would think were too high. The body is an amazing machine...

Kelpie, my heart goes out to you and your family. Glad you can be there for your mom, what a tough time for her, and for you. emoticon and I'll join you at Ben Frein, any time.

Mary, Jo, hope you all have a great weekend, and can get out for some outdoor fun!

Quiet here on the deck. Hope you are all enjoying the treat outdoors. Raining here. Jacques has a petanque competition tomorrow, I'll watch some of it. Remember playing petanque Maui? I think we have a space for on the way to the waterfall. Anyone else fancy a game? With wine, it's Friday!

Have a great weekend all.

Maui

Good news for your son, and maybe a tad less stress for you. Things going in the right direction

Awake too much of the night, and of course slept in.......

So another fire on the log, and time for me to run

Maybe catch you later

Coffee....... lots of coffee!!!

Evening all,

Ahhhhhhhhh...fire...singing....lovely company. I can't stay long asI am quite tired.
But I thought I'd share...
I was up seeing my older son today.
As you recall, one of his issues is Diabetes. His glucose (for those who know such things) was up at 350 much of this year. On all the meds.
New doc is increasing his insulin steadily and carefully, hence lots of appts. But...today it was down to 220. Good news! Now this is still awful...it should be under 100. But...huge step. A little encouragement goes a long way. Maybe his body is starting to respond.

Thanks for caring.
Nighty all.

Thanks Mary, I can just imagine some of the roads, and I believe the time saved! Annecy gets grid locked at peak periods, both summer and winter.

Yes, quality bonding time. So important to make memories.

Time for me to go and get ready for bed now.

Another log on the fire, someone got a ukulele, and we can sing away......

Here's an old girl guide song, that you find in French too, that talks of the Alps. I'm pretty sure we can have a chalet too.......................................

Welcome back Kelpie!

Sounds like you and mom had some quality bonding time - outdoors digging in a community garden - good therapy for you both I hope. Gosh I sure hope Edinburgh gets rain soon. emoticon to you and all of your family.

I must admit I never realized exactly where you are in France and that you're so close to Geneva. I have actually been to Annecy - it is gorgeous! Was just a pass through, 14 or 15 years ago, on the way from Geneva to Meribel for Christmas - holiday traffic on the main road from Geneva was a parking lot so our crazy Brittish driver picked an alternative route - crazy, twisty, at one point an unpaved path through someone's pasture - quite an adventure with my mom and son (then a toddler) in tow but driver swore we saved 3 hours by avoiding the traffic and what beautiful scenery!

Enjoy your day everyone!

Pura vida!

Thanks Jo. My brother is still with us, his original goal was to make it to xmas. His family is expecting a first granddaughter any day now (they already have a grandson) and I think he wants to meet her. After that, well nobody knows. My dad is back in Edinburgh, Scotland, and I live near Annecy in France. Luckily there is a flight from Geneva to Edinburgh, but it isn't as if I can go every weekend. My term ends in early June, so I'll be heading back for a few weeks then, if nothing else to keep my mum company. As she says, she is waiting for the two most important men in her life, her husband and her son, to die. It is very hard for her.

You know Jo, there has been no rain in Edinburgh for weeks, if not months, but not warm, still a cold wind. The ground was so dry! I spent two mornings helping my mum water her plants and put the pots into the right places. Good exercise.

Hope everyone else is having some outdoor time. I need a bit more, just to connect with the universe. So I'll head off to the waterfall, and just enjoy the sights and sounds.

I'll leave you breakfast though.

Enjoy

Goodness, I seem to have missed a lot, but I'll just jump back in!

Fire burning, coffee brewing, and a gentle breeze bring the scents of the forest to us.

My dad is very up and down, had one good day when I was there, and one poorer one. My eldest came to see his grandad too, which was good. This is a message from him
"For my sins I've agreed to participate in the summer WOLF run (woods, obstacles, lakes, fields) to raise funds for the Brain Tumour Charity.
They are a fantastic charity who really help people affected by brain tumours and their families through hard times."
So I'm proud of him for dong that. Will share how it goes.

I'd better get back to work, will try and catch up, but not sure I'll manage.

Have a great day everybody

Our sun came out on Sunday (appropriate, right? emoticon emoticon ) so I'm enjoying that!

Maui, I got the beans at Raley's, mine has an heirloom bean section right by produce (or possibly attached to produce?) so I just pick up the beans that I think are pretty...They are from "elegant beans", I just looked at the new bag I picked up the other day. These are green flageolet, smaller, I thought they were cute!

My personal chef just announced dinner is soon, so gotta run! emoticon

Maui - I love figs (and walnuts but especially figs) - I bought a little fig tree on my road trip a few weeks ago. The breakfast bread sounds delicious! I think I looked it up and I think maybe pineapple sage is a hybrid - but a hybrid in Mexico since the 1800s so not a new-fangled hybrid. I loved the smell so I bought a 4.5" pot last spring - it got no attention over the winter but bloomed all winter long - now the plant is 4' x 4' and almost 3' tall! Leaves and flowers are edible - both taste like pineapple - I've mostly used the flowers in salads - so pretty - but have new growth leaves again now with the sweet flavor so I've just started adding to teas and will be experimenting more with cooking.

Yes, Yes, Cooking on the fire! On deck I can have the tomato sauces and spicy stuff that I'm missing! Can we make some of your famous moussaka??? And maybe some spicy tapas??? And cold beer to wash it down - 'tis (or for some of us almost 'tis) the season!

What's everybody else craving?

Pura vida!

Morning Deckies!

Mary- Wow! Morning paddle! Wonderful. Brings me a smile.Feeding starter today, baking tomorrow. I am making one of my new favorites.(Nit sure if I already told you. I add dried Calimyrna Figs and walnuts....morning toast with nothing more. Yep.
Pineapple sage...Oh...I have too look this up! A cooking sage?

Choc- I can almost see you Oriole feeder. Our hummingbirds are busy as can be.
Jo- Rain and cold...ack! But sunshine yesterday and you got out! Yay yay yay!You are really getting more than your share of cold. I hope warmer temps become more consistent!. Did you here it was snow and hailing in southern California yesterday??? Nuts! And morels...oh my...swoon. Looks like the weather may cooperate for growing some more!!

Kelpie - dear one, thinking about you, tending the fire (It got a little wild last night...hehe...Good thing Mary is feeling better and kept me managed) Sending you warmth and love, Plusses.

Kay- Wow wow wow...just looked up snow capped beans. Heirloom and amazing I think. I think Heirloom beans have higher protein than modern hybridized beans.Beautiful beans. Did you order from Rancho gordo?

Hey...since Mary and I have fire stoked and cookin...how about we bust out the dutch ovens and bake our bread out there? I have been missing Dutchoven Dan and maybe we can recreate our meals outside. Its warm enough.
What else should we cook up?

Good morning deckies!

emoticon Happy me! I got in a little paddle this morning and I almost love food again!

Choc - I thought those must be apple trees emoticon - hoping forecasters are wrong and frost stays away! An oriole already - fabulous! I saw a hummingbird in my pineapple sage yesterday! I must get a hummingbird feeder!

Jo - Sunshine! emoticon Hope warmer weather will be there soon!

Kay - Nice rain! emoticon Glad you didn't get too wet on your trail! Enjoy your salads!

Maui - yep I deep plant my babies too - just the top sets of leaves uncovered. My first round of tomatoes in the garden are large red cherries ranging in size from 8 in - 4 ft...
I have a second round of seedlings to plant - these are inspired by you! - Borghese! Early in April when my cherries were looking promising I thought I'd try something with fruit a little larger and remembered your post last year so I ordered seeds - it took me some practice to get the seeds going but I've now got a couple of dozen strong looking seedlings ranging from 1"- 8" - I will likely be giving some of these away due to lack of space - hopefully I'll get the transplanting process started with the larger ones this week. Loss of permafrost very scary. Bread day tomorrow!!! emoticon emoticon

Kelpie - thinking of you! Hope you're having plusses emoticon emoticon emoticon A relief to have the election over - yes?

Off to the grocer I go. I really need good protein today.

Pura Vida!

the beans I cooked up yesterday are called "snowcap" really pretty beans!

We got a nice bit of rain yesterday, started just after I came in from my walk! (well I did get a few sprinkles when I was out, but nothing serious). It's still cloudy today...maybe we'll get a little more?

I made the buttermilk dressing and a potato salad today, should make for some yummy lunches this coming week, lots of greens, and other salad stuff I can throw together. I may whip up some hummus as well.

Mary sure hope you are on the mend now ... glad you got back to the doctor -- You caught one nasty bug ...

Choc you and I have about the same weather ...
flooding in lots of my town ... not my area --- (home) as we are high... but we are right off the river and it is the highest it has been in the 7 years we have been here..
Love all your bird feeders and your new one too..

Kelp -- thinking of you

Kay --- no planting here either -- still calling for possible snow ... not sure it will happen but we are going to -2 tomorrow night ...

Maui --- all good on the deck with soups and such ..
I do know about the polar icecaps --- a lot do not believe it is happening ..but people on east coast can see the ice breaking away and melting as it goes down the ocean stream.

Mary... those are apple trees... had them pruned last month & hoping that will help produce lots of apples... got almost none last year (late frost last year zapped the blossoms... might get a frost Monday& Tuesday so hoping if we do it will just be a light one and not hurt the trees too much)

Kay... yum in buttermilk dressing! Sounds delicious!

Maui... haven't planted the pines yet, hoping to do that Sunday when it's warmer... rained most of last week & been cold & windy, so haven't planted petunias or herbs yet either, but I did get two big flower beds mulched today

A friend and I went morel mushroom hunting this morning... found some old ones that the deer had already nipped off the tops, (bummer), but we're going back later this coming week after a few warmer days so hopefully new ones will be up (and hopefully we'll beat the deer to them this time)

Had a male Oriole eating jelly out of that homemade feeder this morning! Happy to see him enjoying the grape jelly! He's pretty much ignored the oranges and nectar feeder, but a few smaller birds have been picking at the oranges,... still haven't seen any humming birds, think it's been too cold, but their feeder is hanging by my front porch ready & waiting for them.

Starting to cloud over & looks like more rain, so I better go bring the petunias back inside (I had put them out for a little sunshine so "Murphy's Law" the sun disappeared!

Catch y'all later... Choc

Just keep swimming!

Never give up!

Good Morning Deckies!

OK...it sounds as if Deck Friends are now on the mend...whew.

Mary- wow...you have really been hit hard. What an awful experience. Good you went back to doctor...I wonder what you contracted? I sure hope today bring you much relief and therefore rest.
Magic mouthwash...excellent. Too bad doc didn't give you earlier this week.
Tomato pruning...yep...mine are only about 15 inches tall. I plant deep for root development. They were tall little plants, developing well, and when I plant I put them down quite deep covering lots of leaves. This underground part of the plants will develop roots to also feed the plant. So, they are growing again. What kind did you plant this year?
Thanks for help with the fire. Very nice to share the fire. I love the sound, the heat, the dance of the flames. I think I will never tire of a fire.

Kelpie- Sending more love...every day...we will keep the fire going until you return, not letting the fire go out. Were yo able to vote?? Wow..an election similar to ours...ack!
More plusses. Love this idea. Hugs and love.

Jo- More rain! wow...I have seen reports of flooding in many places...did you stay dry? Is your home in a flood zone? This whole global warming and more water in many places. I have read about Canada's permafrost melting (Also in Russia) a huge story it seems nobody is talking about. HAve you heard about this? (Link is down below...not sure why)

Choc- Wool project! Very cool. It's nice you can feel good about the folks who bought your place. That soup was amazing btw...Kay let me have some and I think it helped me not get sick! Yay! Were you able to plant in the rain? New pines to replace the ones that died??

Kay- you sound like you are much much better. Planning lunches ahead...that's 'our' Kay! I really do a lot of planning ahead too. Mine is based on 'what food needs consumed first'? My garden keeps percolating and producing, so we have to eat in order to have zero waste. (My OCD helps here too...lol) But it's a bit like an orchestra...having to keep my eye on all the parts to succeed. Planning ahead a must. This morning we had fava beans, chorizo, eggs, garlic scapes. Yep. Yummy. My starter will get fed again on Monday and bread on Tuesday. This week I fed and used my starter for pancakes with walnuts and dried figs...with a little cinnamon...ridiculous.
What kind of beans?? Yesterday I cooked up a pot of white tepary beans.
Storm...last night and today...windy!!!! Hubby has tied the umbrellas down so they don't fly away.

Kelpie, safe journey, sorry to hear about your dad, and hope for some "plusses" headed your way soon... emoticon

Choc, thanks for the soup! Very healing, just hit the spot! I've got salad on the brain lately, I'm cooking up a pot of beans, took out some grains I had frozen, and may just whip up the buttermilk dressing I've been planning for next weeks lunches. I just hope it warms back up again! emoticon emoticon

Mary, tomatoes? I'm so far behind you and Maui on the garden...my seedlings are still hanging out in the kitchen, still don't think they will be hitting the outdoors until maybe later this month? emoticon

Maui, is the bread baking? Are you getting this storm this weekend too? We've really taken a turn in the weather, and just when I was sure summer was just around the corner! emoticon

Jo, what's up in the great north these days? Any more visitors? emoticon

Whelp, better go check on my beans...

Hey Choc!

Hope the orioles love their new feeder! What kind of trees are those blooming in the background? Hope your night stayed above freezing and you can plant your herbs and flowers soon! Thanks for the chicken soup!

I am so much better today. Yesterday I asked doc if she would please prescribe me some magic mouthwash and she did - it truly has been magic - now I can even swallow the horse pill amoxicillin she prescribed if I cut them in half and I can eat soft food! When I got up at 6 this morning temp was down to 98.9 (had been 100+ all day yesterday) so I have summited the mountain of pain and am cautiously heading back down to the real world!

Checked on my garden and pruned tomatoes but there is much more to do!

Have a great Saturday everyone!

Pura Vida!

Kelpie... sending prayers and hugs to you and your family!

Weather here has turned rainy, blustery and cold! High Temps low 40's, lows next few nights predicted in the mid to low 30's... been raining steadily for three days! Making outdoor activities really "yucky" to say the least! (Have pine trees, petunias and herbs waiting to be planted but don't "dare" until weather warms up... well, maybe I can plant the trees, but not the others yet)

Saw my first Baltimore Orioles yesterday so have put out the nectar feeders, oranges and this morning I made a "DIY" jelly feeder out of a recycled 12oz Gatorade plastic bottle and a piece of old plastic coat hanger... turned out pretty good even though it looks like a "grade school art project" LOL

Guess I need to visit the new rainbow connection thread "soon".... need to give some thought to my goals first though.
emoticon
Have a slow cooker pot of homemade chicken-vegetable soup simmering away... I'll leave some here on the deck.... sounds like the flu, spring allergies, or colds have some of us "under the weather"... chicken soup "cures all" LOL!

The people who bought my old house gave me two bags of wool from their sheep... Monday I'm going to drop it off at a local "wool factory" to have it cleaned and prepped for spinning (that will take a month or more to get done just because it's their busy time of year)... once I get it back I'll be doing lots of spinning to get it ready for knitting and weaving projects next fall and winter....

OK, guess I'll brave the nasty weather and try planting a couple pine trees before the rain starts again.

Have a Fantastic Friday everyone! Choc emoticon

Your thoughts and love go with me, which helps to lighten the load.
