Morning!

Wood- Wow 100 beers! Don't think I have ever been in a place like that. European Honky Tonk...I think I'd like it. Sounds fun. I was chatting with my tile guy And turns out he plays in a band...guitar! Says its good for his soul and after the construction work by day...He plays at local bars and we are going to go! haha...He says I'll know every word to every song...hehe...my kind of place!

Miss Jaq- people watcing...fun! Hopefully this weekend is a break from appointments.

Our tile crew will be here again today. So, still stuck here...haha...but much of the wall tile got done yesterday. Today the corners, pony wall and shower sill...lots of cutting. The lines have to line up! And our first major delay...tile guy went to pick up floor tile and it wasn't there! No!!!!!!!! Not clear what happened...but apparently it will be here next week....such is life right?

Still dry here. So weird how wet it is in Texas and Oklahoma...we need a water pipeline not oil!

Well...have a good weekend Deckies. I look forward to hearing about the Memorial Walks/Hikes.

Have a good day. Hopefully outside!

Become the change you wish to see in the world.

I love Belgian beer (and Belgian chocolate...) but don't know much about the food. My dad is Belgian, so it's in my genes...

I need to get some walking in this weekend too, Reso, so I will be getting out there and hitting the trails! Hopefully I can get some in daily for the next 3 days, and maybe take the bike for a spin as well? I'll have to see if we dry out at all. It's been unseasonably rainy this past week, which is good for my plants and yard!

We got some bad news from the doc on Thursday, Larry is not to hike for 6 months after the surgery....so he's really disappointed, and trying to come to terms with the fact that this summer will be more recuperating and less activity than we planned. So now we're rethinking our summer plans, since trails are out for him. And he's due to have the screws removed mid-June, so we'll be restricted on activity right around then more than now, since the incisions will need to heal. But like the doctor said, better heal now and have another 20-30 years of active life ahead than to not heal properly. It's just taking an adjustment.

Jacqui - One of my favorite things to do is people watch. I believe you just may live in the perfect spot for that!

Went to a really interesting Belgium restaurant last night with some friends. Along with outstanding food they had over a hundred European beers, bottled and on tap! It was more of an old country bar than restaurant (sort of a European honky tonk) and it's clientele made for some really interesting people watching!

I am plunging in the hot tub. Instead of adventures this week it has bee hosehold projects and doc appointments with Hubs. Black Bike week this weekend, so the neighborhood is zoom zoom zoom. Completely different motorcycles than the Harleys, these are bright and colorful. Lot of Booty on the back in various colorful out fits, thong type.. Great fun to watch and hear.
I will sip on some Pinot Noir and can pir glass for anyone. I also have chocolate covered cranberries.
Annabelle will come tomorrow and probably stay 2 nights. The neighbors are down at their beach house with their kids. It will be lots of beach time, pool time and cookouts. Grab a cozy, a fork, and a swim suit and join us. emoticon

Maui... One of these days we WILL do a "meet-up"... How fun that will be!!!

Reso... Loved your description of your walk and the feelings of spirit animals... I've had similar experiences in the past & am a firm believer that friends & family who have passed are always with us & those "spirit reminders" often touch us in many unexpected ways (and often when we most need it)
emoticon
Well, our Michigan spring weather is driving me CRAZY!!! this is the third time in two weeks where they have issued frost warnings! Each time I have to bring in or cover my plants that are just starting to blossom.... Takes a little over an hour each time to move & cover everything... Then I get to spend another hour in the morning uncovering and moving everything BACK!
(Supposed to get down to 34 or lower by morning....gotta luv fickle Mother Nature!)

RESO I bet these animals may have the spirit of some of your relatives. I had the same thing happen once. Some call it a sign, I think of it as a visit.

I went on my walk this morning. Hopefully it will be the first of 3 or so, one each day through the holiday. Beautiful cool, sunny weather this am, accompanied by the two dogs. I walked out on our land about 45 minutes and found a shady spot on one of the hills, up high enough to look out across the hollow. No signs of human habitation for miles.

I am generally a very practical person but occasionally the Spirit takes me and I see hints of larger meaning in many things. As I began to pray, meditate and remember, different animals began to appear to me. When I was thinking of my father, one of our cats appeared out of nowhere and plastered himself to me, snuggling in a way I have never seen him do before. When I prayed about my grandmother, I heard the cry of a hawk and saw it fly below me down through the hollow. When I was thinking about my more distant ancestors, I saw a young doe making her way down the hillside to drink in the creek. Although I am apart from many of my loved ones, I am not alone. Today reminded me of that.

I encourage everyone to "do the walk". Word to the wise - take lots of tissues.

Morning friends,

Yep...no doubt...lucjy!

MissJaq- I send you thoughts of smooth sailing through the list . Seems many have an extra load to their list...Hope you DH list sails as well. I'll hang out in the hot tub today...sounds like a plan. What kind of music would you like?

Wood- I wake with a smile...love how your brain works! Lucjy defined! hehe...well explained. I agree we are lucky and kinda 'never going to grow up', right? Good for you to get to visit Choc again! On the way to Canada to fish?

OK...awhile back I mentioned good news...
It's Leilani! She has a new job, that utilizes her degree and previous job experiences. She's the new dietary manager of a long term care facility in the beach community she has been hoping to move to! She will only be 45 minutes away...but out of this valley! Housing will be more affordable, and a JOB! She has been working since graduation , but not fully using her degree. She is quite excited! Well done Leilani!

Choc- wow! you are getting lots of visitors! Very nice. Wish it was me....

Snow- well...when does the big truck arrive? How's hubby???

Tile begins today! Oh yes!

This morning I am thinking about the fact that Jaq said that we are "lucjy" people. We are indeed! If lucjy was simply meant to be lucky, well, I guess that's pretty obvious. We laugh. We love. We live. (and we live big!) Mostly we get to enjoy the outdoors, each other and all the adventures that come our way! If lucjy was meant to be "juicy", well, I guess we certainly are that too! LOL! This group has never been close to being a dry prudish bunch. On the contrary, we tend to play in a good natured way that allows the imagination and the inner youth in all of us come alive. I think Jaq meant to combine these words on purpose and I like it! We are indeed "lucjy" people and I relish being part of the group!

Life is good!

So exciting to hear read each post. There is dedication o life in each sentence. We are very lucjy people. I have been so detained in preperation to leave for the summer. Hubs is moving through his appointments with docs and labs and proceedures. Sheesh so much to grow old and have insurnce. LOL For me it is doing all the house preps which interferes with my adventures. I have a teacher from Canada who rents my house for the summer, so i like to do as much as possible to make that pleasant. Just sit and think about that job...
I cannot begin to tell you what happens Memorial weekend t the beach..Besides all the people with a long weekend and the kick off of simmer, the Vets, etc, we also have Black Bike week. We just finished Harley Davidson week. The month of May is Motorcycle heaven here. I love it, I love the noise.
This week has our roads made into loops to divert trffic, extra police hired, etc. I could never explain the fever, the pitch. I hope it all goes well. For me it will be spent on the beach, away from traffic, and lots of cook-outs.
Keep the hot ub rolling, the wine pouring, and the music loud..

Gotta love red toenails!

So many I could walk for. I need to give this some serious thought, but I
will walk!

Choc - Glad the visit was good, but even more glad you're back. Looking forward to our visit as well.

Yep! Worked on the shelter! 6 hours of mostly carrying in lumber again for me - including over 30 sheets of plywood. (2 man job) Everything hurts!!!!!

So definitely hot tub and wine for me!

I'll walk for my Dad, my Aunt C., and my Granny - all of whom taught me as a child to love the outdoors. And I will remember those mentioned here who have recently passed on. Also on my mind is a distant relative of mine who was a Cherokee Indian woman named Rhoda. I hope I am bringing honor on our bloodline.

And I would love a soak in the tub with a refreshing glass of dry white wine and some pleasant conversation. Do you all see that I just polished my toenails a cheery bright red to celebrate bring out my summer sandals! (holds one wet, dripping foot above the bubbles...)

I too will do a Memorial hike. So many...I will hike for My Mama, my friends lost to cancer (Too many), Hubby's folks, My brothers.

I think I'll open some wine and sit in the hot tub tonight. Who wants to join me? I am ready for some stories. I'll pour.

Maui... I'm here,... Been making quick fly-bys just to peek in & see all the activities everyone has been doing... my "California cousin" has been visiting since last week (he's from Eureka, California) ... Has kept me pretty busy but was fun having him here... He's left to visit other family, so as of today I'm back to "normal" (not that I've ever been "normal" LOL)...,

I've managed to get in a few hikes this week (good thing too 'cause while my cousin was here it seemed like we were eating all the time...and not exactly healthy eating!) I'm not going to get on my scale until next week cause I'm SURE I must have gained weight with all the chowing down we did!

Can't remember who suggested a "memorial hike" on this holiday weekend but LOVE that idea!!!! I'll do mine for my parents and my older sister... Miss them all so much!

Afternoon Deckies!

Wow...so much going on!
Yak and shelter building, gardens coming and going...moving, new projects, ...lots.

Kay- more seedlings up and I think you are getting more rain. Not us...
Walking in the rain to work...nice. I walk every morning early...just skunks...no rain...lol. Yes...I remember the wind in Reno...so...was it windy rain? Thunder storms? I love a good crack of thunder.

Wood- haha...I know you'd work in the rain. I bet rain wouldn't stop you from much of anything.
How'd the day go?
How long will Mom stay south?

Snow- How is DH?????? My goodness..a lot on your plate!

Reso- haha,...living room shooting sports store. You know you are in good company....a few years back our kids, while in 4H were into shooting sports. Out of our home for several years we ran state wide shooting events. And all targets got mailed to us. Our entire home would be filled with targets and NRA Junior Olympic Judges scoring targets. These were 'Postal Shoots' so kids from the entire state could participate in their own county and yet compete with each other. Fun. But yes...such things can overtake the house...haha.

Miss JAq- sorry to hear about the medical issue for hubbs. Glad he has you and I hope things get better. Hopefully this won't be the last trip up to Cape Breton. I too have never been. I hope to go at some point. On the list. Hugs.

Choc- where are you??? Maybe you are out hiking! Hugs my friend.

Mary- hehe..annoying cukes...too many boys...What ya gonna do? June 1 is a deadline for

OK...making great progress around here. The list of done...is growing.
Windows, and french door all done. In the bathroom, demo was followed by, new fan installation, new copper pipes, new exhaust fan, sheet rock, tape, new shower pan, today tile prep...mud! Tomorrow the tile laying begins! Too bad we have a long weekend...but Tuesday the tile will be finished, grout on Wednesday, painting on Thursday and Friday. The following week is the new hardwood floors! Wow...this was an expensive leak!
I have purchase all my fixtures and sink and toilet. Yep...we are making progress!

Life is good!

I am putting my other hat on and am now in VBS decorator mode. I am currently building a yak, but only a small one about 3 feet high.

We have a big family fun shoot scheduled for the holiday, but I am not too sure whether it will get rained out or not. Forecasts are ranging from a 60% chance to a 20% chance. who knows... We may try to go kayaking Saturday.

Kayotic, I do envy your garden already in. I am hoping to get a few things in soon, but our weather is not cooperating and while some days are in the low 90's, other nights are in the upper 30's so I'm afraid tender, new seedlings would not make it.

Wood, did you do your shelter building work today? Those trails can be slippery in the rain, even more so if you are trying to balance a heavy load.

Adapt, yep, gotta adapt. Be flexible, you never know which way the wind is going to blow next (especially here in Reno!)

Had to plant my newest tomato, as it had blown down, and the sun came out today, so I'm hoping it will adapt to it's new home!

More of my seeds are sprouting...so happy to see those! emoticon emoticon

Phew! There's absolutely no way that I can respond to everything that has been discussed here on the deck since I left to take my Mom to NC to see the southern contingency of her family. I checked the deck out a few times on my smart phone but didn't take the time to report in! This place is always busy but I think we're breaking records! Getting ready for lifetime changing experiences: moving to a new house; renovating a present house; graduating from college; heading to Cape Breton for the summer; teaching classes in almost unheard of outdoor skills; more than one big experience out there that people aren't giving us the details of yet; and I know I'm just barely touching on this list of what's going on!

Responding to just a few!

I don't know who came up with this Memorial Day hike idea, but I'm in! Great idea!

Snow - Breathe deeply and accept extra hugs!

Jaq - I've never been to Cape Breton, but just researched it! It's now on my bucket list! Hope DH's doctor appointments go well.

I don't think I talk to my plants, but I talk to wild birds and animals all the time! Nice to know that it appears that all Outdoor People are maybe just a little "crazy". LOL!

Been thinking a lot about climate change lately. The world is changing and I guess we will need to adapt to those changes. It'll be interesting!

Wish I had more time, but don't right now.

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning!

Snow- ((hugs)) my friend...such an emotional, wild, exciting, adventure you are on. I hear you about talking to the plants. I knew we were sisters! I have been doing the same. With this drought and new restrictions heading our way, I am really struggling emotionally too!

Ha ha...my living room too! We have bedroom dressers side tables, we can barely navigate around...haha...Good thing I can do outside and visit my hummers and garden.

Reso- you are in good company with all the stuff eh?

Kay- we have gear too in the garage...garden sheds have garden stuff and bikes. Rain! Cool...

Miss Jaq- your description of you gd birthday sounds excellent...perfect...as it should be. Not often anymore we see children truly playing...like you say as it should be...outdoors!
Nature...yes...I love my time outside. With this drought...looks like 'tjings' will be changing...big time.

I too will walk this Memorial Day weekend for our dear ones....

Work is about to start again today.
Here we go!
Forward ho!

I love your idea of logging the Memorial walks, Missjaq. And I am very envious of a trip to Cape Breton!

We have lived in the same place for the last 15 years, but before that we moved fairly frequently and I hated that. It is so hard to leave a place that you have struggled to make into a home. Snow, it sounds like you are working hard to bless the next owners.

I worked hard yesterday to make my living room look less like a shooting sports store exploded there. Cleaned gear, oiled gear, packed gear, and put it away, knowing that part of it will need to come back out this coming weekend.

I've been researching axes online and have found some beautiful ones. But they are certainly pricey. I may have to take that business man up on his offer to help sponsor a few.

I also may have hired on to teach atlatl at a summer camp for a week or two this summer. I definitely need to acquire more gear if I am going to do that. I need another barn just to hold all my "toys".

It is so good to come here and hear how busy everyobe is. Also everyone hs plans that will keep them busy. It reminds me of Henry David Thoreau when he sat on a hill and watched all the birds and beast sow, hunt, gather, then he looked at the farmer sowing, gathering, and harvesting. We are all the same in Nature.

I had a busy weekend with my GD birthday party at an incredible large preserve with horseback riding and a lot of kids playing. It dawned on me that kids would play outside more if they had more space to play. They played with the toys, but in a true kids spirit, Like batting pine cones instead of birdies, tying the hoola hoops to vines, and such. They played hard for 4 hours.

I am getting to the deadline of leaving for Cape Breton in a couple of weeks. So much to do to leave the house, the list keeps growing. The hubs is having medicl issues so i have to be a part of those doc visits. Hope the issues are all fixable. He is 81 so they cannot be shrugged off. He will fly up and back, and I will drive. If we make it this year, it will probably the last time we might be able to go for this long of a time.

I like the idea of a Memorial day walk.. I will log my walks and share who the Memorial is for. Probably my dad and grand fathers.

emoticon You think your living room is full of "stuff"? OMG - I think there is barely enough room in my living room for the delivery guy to bring my new bed unassembled 4 poster canapy and amoire (both reaching 7'11") to sit in the middle until we move! And the movers are packing all the rest of the dishes and things in closets- where will all those boxes go?? emoticon The garage is already pretty full.

All of this worry gave me a migraine yesterday but I worked so hard on the yard and watering emoticon (today feeding) everything emoticon so I figure it wil be nice for the new owners, I hope they put in a drip system soon!! They have construction plans to build a huge master bedroom and bath, I think I told you that they are going to fill my pool in-- So why did I "waste " a day doing the front and back yards? Well.... I just need to spend time with my garden, I talked to my roses, emoticon encouraged all the plants - I even explained to them that I was not abandoning them, and how much Ive truly loved emoticon them... I think Im losing my mind??? and then I cried for about 10 minutes, quietly, it took me by surprise as Ive been thinking how Im handling this moving thing so well. 33 years......oh man. emoticon

Humming bird wars big time out front emoticon - at my "Starbucks nectar fly- thu"!! Yesterday I was sitting looking out the front window, huge hydrangea showing huge blue and pink blossoms, when all of a sudden a hummer just flew right into the glass! She hovered looking at me in astonishment, she seemed surprised but uninjured- lost her nectar collection tho and went back to the feeder for more! I think she saw my parakeets in the window and just thought she could come in also..... Im glad she didn't break her neck or beak!

Today its just going down the list...I am frantic at this point, trying not to get overwhelmed, I really need to go out to buy a new mattress - hoping that is possible later on. Feeding plants, depositing client checks, pack up a couple of suitcases of things needed until moving day (25th), buy a small bird cage to transportt the birdies in... and pack up a few more areas in boxes.
Finishing up my coffee, taking my DH's temp.... looks like he is fighting a virus emoticon of some sort, he is NEVER cold and he complained of being freezing all night long. Oh gosh, gotta take care of him, he's the one going to get me thru all this!!! He and all lof you guys of course! I love all the virtual things I am doing right along with all of you- know that I didn't mean to be a whiney girl.... reading about your lives really entertains and relaxes me...
I hope you are surviving all the construction Maui, you will love your home when its all done- with all the improvements you made- it should feel like a new house! emoticon Tip- keep all your receipts for the things you have done to your home, if you ever sell- it offsets the capital gains amount so you don't pay so much in taxes. Atleast keep an ongoing list of everything just in case you end up being like us- wanting to escape the madness! I think we have rebuilt every single thing you can think of in our home, even my door handles. I just thought about the back yard- I forgot all we've done to that.... Ive got til tax time tho to add on.

Have a great day everyone! I am counting the days to a new normalcy!!! ***SNOW***

KAYOTIC, Good for you & the eventful sounding longesh walk. Sounds like fun! Thanx by the way for the encouragement. emoticon

RESOLVEDTOWIN & MAUI,
It frightens me the drought.. All of those trees and livestock and wild animals. What will happen? The possibility of losing 30% of the trees & then what about forest fires? emoticon

I spent much (most of) my day in a hospital emergency room with a family member today. I had coffee & am a bit hyped it was kind of a crazy day (just got home actually & finally had some food & am going to bed).

Back home again. My living room looks like someone's gear storage locker! I have GOT to sort this all out and stow it away. Class today went better than I expected. I even had a local business man mention that he and some of his friends might be interested in sponsoring the purchase of some of my training axes for next fall!

My two favorite days of these shooting sports classes are the first day - I am so excited to get back into it again, and the last day - I am just plain tired and glad to get my Sunday afternoons back. My living history class ended today and we only have one more shotgun class next weekend, then I will be done teaching for the season. I will have a break until it starts up again in the fall, in late September or October.

Kayotic, I can only imagine walking out of your house and getting caught up in a race event! The only races around my place are when it's feeding time!

It makes me sad to think of all that is being lost in the drought areas. It is interesting to look at the tree rings from large, ancient trees and see the recurring drought cycles that have occurred, but not at all fun to live through!

Strive for peace, hope and perseverance.

Happy Sunday Morning Deckies!

Reso- wow...you are amazing. And like Kay said, I think practice is key, yes? I have to really work at a new skill...over and over, then boom...all of a sudden my brain has it, forever. But not easy getting it in! Ha-ha...

Kay- yep...your walk, race in the neighborhood...very cool indeed. Nice views, open hills...I can see why. Fresh pesto is hard to beat. Its nice hearing Larry seems to be getting back in his groove with cooking. Pesto eggs...yes!

Hobbes- Willamette river walk...you know I was there years ago...such a beautiful area. Good to hear you are moving! Also great news your son's review went well. Let's you exhale , right? Each of those benchmarks (for me reviews from disability), cause me tension, I think I hold my breath the entire time. And I used to do that for piano recitals too..hahaha.
Anyhow, good news!
So, the long program is for you. I like what reso mentioned, that you will pick up more valuable info in the 'regular' program. And now...now you can look forward to summer plans yes?

Kelpie- My mind is enjoying the green green hills and fields by Jacques and your home. Here we are so dry, and the water shortage is really starting to show. Brown trees everywhere. There are reports maybe 30% of all trees will die this year. Sad.
This will definitely be quite a journey though this drought. But...I have nice images of a beautiful green place, with lovely friends, to bring me smiles.

Snow- Since Kay mentioned races/events heading by her place...it made me think of your new place. :)
Hows the packing going???

Yesterday I attended a baby shower of one of my 4Hers...soooo so cute. All these 'kids' are getting married and having children. This one in particular was landmark one for me. While I was working for the program, I had youth from age 5-19. At one point I chose a 'kid', who I just had such admiration for, who would mark my retirement. When you see so many youth grow up...at some point I decided..."when Gina ages out, I will resign". It was my "Gina" who's baby shower I attended yesterday. FUN! College, marriage, now baby. Hmmm...I am not older, right????
Anyhow, very fun.

Gotta get all my 'chores' done, before more work continues this week...progress...all good. Can't complain...work is going along at a very acceptable pace. Can't ask for more.

I have had some other...very good news...I am anxious to share...but cannot yet...but soon!

Life is good!

Become the change you wish to see in the world.

Keep moving Hobbes! emoticon That walking is good for you.

Reso, I'm going to bet those ladies picked up more that you think! At least they have seen the concept, even if they haven't mastered it, those things must take a lot of practice to master, and we all have to start somewhere....so you have done them a great service by showing them the basics and planting those seeds.

I got out for a longish walk yesterday (a little over 7.5 miles) and ran into an endurance event! They were running 15 miles or 50K, and maybe even another distance, I only talked to the guy at the aid station for a minute, but assured them I didn't have a number, so they didn't count me! It's funny having racing events literally in your backyard! They had a mountain bike event last weekend and we could see one of the aid stations from our yard.

Larry made a homemade pesto last night and it was fantastic! There's leftover if anyone wants pesto eggs this morning... emoticon

Wow, you are all doing so well you're an inspiration.

As you we'll know I long since fell off the preverbial wagon but I'm gonna check in again anyway to try and keep myself honest.

I walked jogged this morning with my friend across the Willamette River as well as went on a walk tonight with my son (so I'm moving).

Back from my class. Things seemed to go pretty well. I taught blowgun and atlatl to about 25 ladies, ages 17 to 92. Only one lady got on my nerves, prancing around and telling everyone what to do, even when she had never done it before either.

I got the car unpacked and now I am going to go hit the shower before cleaning all the gear and putting it away. I think I will have a beer and listen to some good music while I do that.

Then I need to finish the last 5 paracord bracelets for my class tomorrow afternoon. I wish I had time to tweak some things to try to teach the bow drill techniques again, but I don't think there will be time. I hate to let it go when I know the students didn't really grasp the concept. I am thinking that even with a teen aged group, that topic may take more than one class to master.

I did get some photos today and if I can learn how to download them from my new camera, I will try to post a few.

Hobbes, sorry about the fast track program, but perhaps there are some important things for you in the normal paced one. Kayotic, sorry about your father's friend. I do think we ought to do that Memorial walk over Memorial Day weekend - each of us making the trek to a scenic place and spending a bit of time remembering and honoring those we have all lost. Memorial Day should be about more than picnics.

Strive for peace, hope and perseverance.

We have a cloudy Saturday here in the West...and it rained yesterday afternoon into the evening...had to dodge the raindrops to get in the hot tub! But it was worth it.

My dad's girlfriend passed away yesterday...so if I'm a bit on the quiet side, you know why, she was in our lives for the past 15 years or so, and a wonderful traveling companion to my dad (they met on a cruise, and took many more together, as well as numerous trips around the world).

Brenda, I've needed to kick my butt in gear as well, drifted up past my comfort zone, and slowly getting back down, I finally bit the Spark bullet and started tracking again...it's tedious at times, but it works! I'm not going for a huge deficit, but something manageable, and moving makes it easier.

Hobbes, sorry you didn't get into the summer program, but you have the summer to enjoy now! And will start in the fall! emoticon Sounds like a perfect way to go to me...

Maui, hope the construction is humming along!

Wood enjoy the trip with Mom!

Finally on deck & just look who I find:

BRENDALEEFREE, It has been awhile since I've connected with you. Sounds like some pretty happy plans this next week. An early happy Birthday to you. It was me that fell off that wagon! I'm 'still' struggling but getting more motivated than I had been.

MAUIMA, Of course I'm joining in! As far as your question about my meeting the other day It was surprisingly positive👍!

Unfortunately today I discovered that I was not picked to be a part of the fast-track graduate program. So I start in the Fall as initially planned.

Things are as they should be and are as they are. Thanks everyone for your wishes of good-luck in this potential endeavor I'd hoped to be a part of.

So if you see me just sitting quiet tonight pondering things know that I'm just processing. The wine will be therapeutic tonight (as well as the fire). Come and laugh with me.

Mauima, why yes, I would love to join you for a nice, relaxing dinner. The menu sounds lovely. And then perhaps afterward, we could take an extra glass out to sip as we sit by the fire, listening to the night sounds. It is a little overcast here, so no stargazing.

I do need to practice a bit of restraint since I need to head out around 6:30 tomorrow morning.

One fun thing I have been doing is weaving several of those paracord bracelets for my living history students, as a momento of their participation in my class. Since we did the cordage, ropemaking, snares, etc., I thought a nice length of study rope that they can take with them easily would be a good option. I am doing the basic pattern with one continuous cord, so each bracelet has about 12-15 feet of strong cord in it and can be unraveled as needed. I did see some trickier braids as I was researching - one with a wire saw incorporated and another with a hollow core where you could insert a bit of emergency cash, if needed. Fun ideas! Anybody here need a new bracelet? After 15 of these things, I am getting fairly good at it!

Strive for peace, hope and perseverance.

Evening Deckies!

Brenda- Howdy! Hey...you sound good, regrouping. And ready for a birthday camp trip. I will join you on this re-boot effort on weight loss, ok?

Wood- Safe journey to visit brother with Mom. Luv's with you too, yes? Glad you feel appreciated by us gals. ;)

Reso- I LOVE your idea of a Memorial Day walk for all our loved ones who have suffered. Let's do this!
OK....a party...I am ready. It's been a long week and we are here for you! Prepare for tomorrow. You can do this! So...I might suggest something simple, since you do have to work fully 'on' tomorrow.
I suggest a lovely red wine (of course) Its my go to drink..but...has some health benefis and will relax you.
How about a little pasta , heavenly cheese, crisp salad and Merlot. Simple hearty food. You'll sleep like a baby.

Anyone want to join us? I made plenty. :)

I'm afraid I have no pre-blow-dart-atlatl teaching drink experience, but put an umbrella in it, then if it rains you're covered! emoticon Can you combine the blowgun/atlatl and tai chi somehow? That would be a sight! emoticon emoticon

Whew! I just got the car loaded for class tomorrow and I am hot and tired. If I forget in the future, someone remind me, I do NOT travel light. All that gear weighs a ton. I went up to the camp this afternoon to get my ranges set up. I have one fully set, hoping for decent weather. I have a "Plan B" one set up in case of rain (40% chance). The problem with the rainy day scenario is that we will have to share the shelter with another class. Not a problem for me, but somehow I suspect that our blowgun and atlatl carrying on will be a bit distracting to the tai chi class we will be sharing with!

Welcome, WittyKitty! This is a fun place to be. Everyone here is involved in an amazing range of outdoor activities. I have received a lot of encouragement and I just joined a couple of weeks ago.

I'm so sorry that so many here have experienced the loss of loved ones of late. Perhaps we could do a Memorial Day "walkathon" to a scenic place to remember those close to us and to our friends here who have gone on before us.

But for tonight, I'm ready for a virtual party! Tomorrow I'm going to be facing a tough crowd of been-there-seen-it-all women and trying to teach them something. I need to fortify myself tonight. What libation do you all recommend?

Nacheat & Resolved-Nice to meet you both! I haven't been around in a few weeks, so it's great to see some new faces

Snow - SO sad to read about your friend. Cancer really does suck and my thoughts will be with her and you as you give her encouragement.

Snow-Safe travels! I hope your mom enjoys the trip.

Maui-More house projects woes? OH no :(

Jaq -LOVE those kayak pictures.

It's been a rough couple of weeks - my mother in law's (late husband's mother) boyfriend passed away last month so I took some time to head north and see her. She's been through so much loss in her life, this was just a total blindside. I decided to head back to therapy to work on myself and deal with some grief situations (lost my former boss, and then my mother in law's loss - triggers a lot).

Over the month I fell off the wagon as well (someone else on the thread described this too) so while my eating isn't quite back to the great way it was, my exercise has been overdrive in praise of this wonderful weather! So while I yo'yoed up almost 10 pounds, now I'm settling back down and should soon be passing my previous "low point" in this weight loss journey.

I'm trying not to celebrate beautiful sunny days all the time because, frankly, it's REALLY dry and we need the rain. I'm concerned we'll be heading into a drought situation if this keeps up. I rototilled my new garden plot and have been watering almost every day. Lettuce is finally peeping up so I hope others catch on soon.

Next week is my birthday and we are heading on a trip - I'm counting down the days and essentially living for this time off. Hubs and I both need a getaway - us, the 2 dogs, and our 13' scamp. Should be fun!

Life is Good is sooooooooooo right, here on the Deck!

Wood- again your words brighten my day...a gift you are my friend. Thank you!

Snow- You sound good! So much to do...and you are making this happen! Very cool. I love how you read deck posts to DH. He must have really gotten used to us by now eh? An interesting commentary of life in this modern world. I am so sorry about your friend. Big hugs to you and her. Say hi to Mom and Dad! I want to get over and see your yard, you and DH. I am stuck here with construction. Ack!!!!!!!!! This weekend????????

Kelpie- Going to the lake, Jacques fishing...My heart lept...I have been there! So amazing. I can picture it, and taste the fish. Still asking in the glow of our visit...thanks for the log on the fire...you know how I like fire. ;)

Hobbes-How did the meeting /eval go for your son? And yes...choices! So good to hear you laugh. You have a lovely giggle you know. And you know...cooking/gardening...I just over the years shifted how I do the yard and cook. Shifted what I purchase and how I plan ahead...was not an overnight change. But now it seems easy...not extra time.

NAch- Great adventure area. Did you ever hike up out of Paradise? What trail? I love the Mt Rainier area. Been several years since I was up there...but what a place, eh?

Kay- You think you'll get some rain or snow today? we are supposed to...but nothing yet. Its Thursday...almost made it through your week. Maybe we can get some help for this drought!

Miss Jaq- hehehe...raising vegetables...yep...more giggles. Your kayak pics and story...Lovely! Feet adventure pics...yep! Nice!

Reso- hahaha...now blow gun classes......yep...crack me up too!

OK...I feel like I am hurrying...every day these days...
construction update...bathrrom gutted! Yep!

Noisy few days...no place to hide...noisy inside and outside...cannot leave...haha...progress.
The leak behind the tile was revealed yesterday ...not as bad damage as we expected. But still good thing this is getting done. Whew.

I will catch you all later...let the crazy begin again!

Become the change you wish to see in the world.

Wood, as always your wisdom comes at the right moment.

Just a flyby as had a much more active outdoor day, even if it has left me a bit tired...good tired!

Enjoyed carpaccio of fera yesterday with the fish jacques caught. Had a short hike this morning, did some weeding this afternoon, and looking forwartd to eating the veg this evening emoticon

Hope everyone else is having fun.....I'll be in my tartan hamock, with possibly a nice ros wine with grapefrui juice....

Will take the time to write properly soon, but if it's a choice of outdoor or here, outdoor has to win!

MISSJAQ,

Paddling through the weeds and canals exploring intricacies of the tide and perspective of nature as well as the houses along the shore. Yes, thanx for those images & it so many times what I've dreamt of discovering on my own. There is a spit and inlet I've been eyeing with longing to find a way to explore.

Wood, I loved reading your words this morning, I was tickled and left in admiration of your prose.

I'll be ready for a mud bath and a good soak after on the deck Friday night. I hope the stars are abundant and the laughter plenty.

Have a good Thursday everyone.

Keep climbing emoticon

SNOW,

I laughed along with your reaction to Wood's words of wise-dom: ..... "and then of course.... I laughed at raising vegetables or being one! Which goes to say, we all have choices in life, so lets spend it LIVING IT!"

Here Here!

Good morning, Im all caught up as well. Wood, your words gave my day meaning. I read them to my DH while he was making me coffee, and they will stay with me atleast the whole day thru. You somehow addressed each one of us and yet, each phrase I can some how connect with on some level. And your thoughts transmitted to words on "paper" washed over me almost spiritually....... and then of course.... I laughed at raising vegetables or being one! Which goes to say, we all have choices in life, so lets spend it LIVING IT!
Have a great day all you wonderful people, off to the gym, then to see mom and dad today.

Lot's of responses to make. First of all reading by the lake, fishing and fresh air is just about as good as it gets. I'll be making my first Canada trip in about a month and that should pretty well describe it! Life is good! Friends being there for friends I think is what angels here on earth really are! Life is good! Noodle hockey is played on the grass, not in the pool. Life is good! Making a house your home is accomplished by taking a simple structure and giving it a life that reflects your soul. Life is good! Sitting in a kayak, drifting with the tide and allowing yourself to be absorbed in the manmade world as well as the natural world around you allows you to find that place within you where you can just be you. Life is good! Getting off track but then finding your way back on is what we do so well here on the deck. Life is good! Being normal is not a requirement, in fact it may be a detriment. Life is good! Playing with blowguns, throwing spears and hatchets is not what most people would call normal, but the people who do these things certainly make life a lot more colorful! Life is good! Learning to embrace rainy day hikes opens a whole new world! Without those rainy days those waterfalls just wouldn't be. Life is good! Some people opt to be vegetables while others raise them. Life is good! Having someone who prepares omelettes for you is devine! Kayaking with swans is an experience similar to swimming with dolphins! Life is good! Being around others who allow ones mind to expand as well as meander provides me with tremendous satisfaction!

Life is good!
Wood

KELPI Reading by the lake is all the activity you need. Fresh air and fishing is divine.

SNOW sad for your friend. I hope you had a nice lunch with her and just enjoyed the time. Cancer sucks but friendship is so dear. Also, annoying to know the new home owners will make changes to your home, but they must have found comfort already to make the space perfect for their life. Once they are in the walls, they will let the house breath in the direction it needs for them.

RESO you crack me up! Blow gun classes this weekend? I would be astounded to spend a weekend with you. I only heard of some of these things in books and movies. You are a true warrior.

HOBES I did have a great time Kayaking. It was calm and I was able to use the tide a lot. It is amazing to watch all the Egrets and Herons, Oyster catchers etc. And as you paddle through the weeds and canals, you see the homes of people, High rises, and nature all living on the edge of the ocean.

RESOLVEDTOWIN, You & I both ( I also work for schools & at the end of the year all kinds of treats flowing everywhere). I too have found it inordinately difficult to want to track or to say no.

SNOW, So many changes! So sorry to hear about your customer/friend. My best friend died of cancer several years ago it's a great nemesis in our world. Broke all of our hearts can't even reach to the depth of that kind of sorrow. I have no words but feel an ache everyday related to the great loss of her in this life. I'm so sorry...

I'm about ready to head out the door on my walk.

emoticon Hi all, just checking in ... Im officially retired from hairdressing now.... count down til moving date.... Ive got lists everywhere!! Its coming together, I think maybe Im doing more than necessary sometimes, but then I look around and figure, If I don't organize now, Ill just have to do it all later at the new digs, so I just keep going thru things meticulously...

Just saw my client/girlfriend that had the ovarian cancer at a restaurant when all my gym friends took me out the other night. Her hair was growing back, shiney silver...saw her with her DH and another couple in the parking lot and figured we were all headed to the same place. I went up to her and asked why she hadn't texted me back the day before when I was touching bases to hear how she was doing, and then I saw her face go white and serious. I knew. she said she "beat the ovarian" but then it has surfaced somewhere else and its not good at all. So we hugged and I said I wanted to get together with her over coffee and just the two of us to talk and visit - so she agreed and Im going to try to work that in today sometime. Its so heartbreaking... I really hate cancer. it has almost driven me mad enough to want to make it my next cause to channel that anger somewhere. She knew that this was not going to be a sure thing, al the chemo, the surgery.... the hope that maybe they cured it for a while atleast.... Like you Choc.... missing out on celebrating Mothers day with your family members... I wonder what it could possibly feel like being that mother knowing it might be your last..... argh.

On a brighter note, My yard is so gorgeous! Flowers everywhere... Im going to miss it a lot. I want to take it all with me! I heard that our buyers were talking to a neighbor one afternoon and told him that they planned on filling in our pool with dirt!!! O M G. They have plas to make a huge master bedroom and bath.... I just try not to think about it, It would be a great thing, but they could build it out to the patio... the pool??? Really? Deep breath....

Ok this is longer than I had planned! Gotta get back to it--Hi and hugs to all... and yeh Wood, Im around!!! I check in to read posts when I take a break and then I zip right out again.... be good you guys, I shall be normal again someday...

Missjaq, your kayaking trip sounds like fun. I hope you are all dried out from the storm.

Nach, I envy your fantastic hiking trips.

Mauima, I am jealous of your garden. We had more frost just last night. I wonder if we will get any fruit at all from our trees.

I kind of fell off the wagon with Mothers Day stuff, teaching my class (I was a little frustrated, they didn't "get" it as well as I had hoped), helping my daughter study for her finals, and preparing to teach my blowgun/atlatl class this weekend. With so many other things churning around, thoughts of my diet left my mind and I fell back into that rut of grabbing the most convenient thing. Oh well, time to pick myself back up, dust myself off, and get back in gear.

Strive for peace, hope and perseverance.

Be an ordinary person doing extraordinary things!!!

MISSJAQ, Exploring the marsh in a kayak sounds like so much fun (wish I could come with you). Let us know how it turned out will you? I'm wanting to do that too.

KELPIE57, A good time at the lake? I hope some fish were caught.

NACHEATHERC, It's been over 25 years since I've been up Mount Rainier. Good to hear you made it. Do you do much exploring in the Northernly part of the Washington Cascades? I love Eastern Washington especially.

MAUIMA, I don't know how in the world you accomplish all the things that you do in the Garden & Kitchen (You are simply Amazing!)

Just enough time to set out breakfast, put a log on the fire, and go darn and double darn! The lady I should have been seeing today has a health issue and is being operated on on Friday do my meeting has been postponed....I just ope it's not too serious for her, as that is pretty quick surgery.

Will keep you updated.

Hoping to go on the lake with jacques this afternoon, no real activity, he'll be fishing, I 'll be reading, but it'll be nice to get outdoors before the weather changes tomorrow and it gets cold and rainy again.

I will just soak a bit in the Hot tub. Sunny here now and the humid steam that comes with a wet ground. Still some cool breezes in the shade, but this will pass quickly and we will be hot, hot, and hotter.

Tomorrow I am hoping to rent a kayak and explore the marsh. Wish I could practise first, but I am sure I will figure it out. I looked a t a video and see the waist and arms are a bit different than in a canoe. I am hoping sitting in the kayak will make it's own natural feel work.

Finally got caught up..
Although, I don't really have a big enough window to appropriately respond.

emoticon emoticon I'm so elated to have finally found a morning walking Buddy. I live very close to the downtown (it's quite beautiful) but unfortunately not safe due to the abundant homeless & transient population (at least as a woman walking alone in the dark on any consistent basis). We meet at 5 with our headlamps on, today although was just too too wet to go.

NACHEATHERC I hope the weather holds out for your trip to Mount Rainier today.

It's a full day today for me: I have my annual evaluation at work today as well as my son's IEP meeting after work today.

All of you Trekkers and moon howling bicycle, kayaking, ax throwing, power gardeners have a great day. What a team....!

Still no news yet about my fast track graduate program.

Thinking of U...

Chef duties may have worn Larry out a bit....but he's still at it! And he's tapering off the heavy duty pain meds, so that affects his mood and spirits as well.

Nacho, enjoy Rainier! One day we'll head up there, we were planning a trip about 10 years ago, but there was a lot of flooding and some of the roads and trails we were looking at were washed out, so we ended up in Oregon instead.

Maui, glad the inspectors approved of the windows!

Kelpie, fingers and toes are duly crossed for you!

Choc, more hugs coming your way... emoticon

Pool noodles and balloons? Your family does know how to enjoy themselves, Wood!

I'll be hitting the trails to work this morning...better get moving! My trainer was a no show last night, I don't know if he forgot to tell me he wasn't going to be there, or if I forgot! Either way, I almost cancelled myself, so not to disappointed, and I did get in a little workout on my own.

Evening!

Choc- Glad you are feeling better!

Kelpie, Wood- Petanque !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMGosh...oh so fun! We have to make a petanque a dirt 'court' to play! Another one of my favorite moments with Kelpie...
Many favorite moments...I am still basking in the glow of the visit.

Great idea Kelpie.

Wood- I think we have discussed this growing up before. Nope...not going there.

OK...inspector came by and signed off our window work. So...stucco guys come tomorrow. Yay...step by step!

Had a busy day in the kitchen, while waiting for the doorbell...lol. Made some Rogan Josh beef and hummus...yum! Bread day and roasted almost, made nut btter, roasted peanuts, oven roasted leeks and froze those...basically a good day while waiting for teh inspector. Luckily I got my walk in early before I had to be 'on call'.

JAq- Oh gosh ...how you holding up? I hope the storm passes soon!

Kay-your Tiki party sounds fun! Larry must have felt good being able to pull off all that omelet cooking! How did his leg hold up after all that standing? I too like routine. Hope day 1 was efficient and productive.

Noodle hockey in the pool...right???

OK...Hot tub tonight, OK?

Okay now I've got to look up petanque! We sure are diversifying!

Yep KB - Noodle hockey uses pool noodles, a balloon for the ball (keep extras ready), and I just paint the goals on the grass (it grows out eventually). No rules. Balloon can be up in the air or on the ground. The whole yard is in play. Our players include all ages. My 4 year old gs is awesome and so is my 83 year old mother!

A fly by.....I've not been outdoors I'm afraid, had yet another nast cold and spent yet another weekend nursing it in bed. I was so disappointed as I had been planning lots of walks....

Oh well, the best laid plans of mice and men....

Still, I have a meeting on Wednesday about a possible full time teaching job next year.. It's with infants and primary, and I would have my own classroom! I would no longer be a bag lady. Keep your fingers and toes crossed for me.

Oh, and since Maui enjoyed "petanque" so much when she was here, why don't we have an area for that. it's a bit less dangerous than axe throwing.

Hugs to you all, (with an extra one for Choc)

Awesome advice Wood~and have no plans of growing up too fast or too soon emoticon It helps to have a younger brother....long weekend for him so we are going on an adventure on new trailhead I found. Noodle hockey sounds like lots of fun~guessing like street hockey only with swimming noodles??

It's been cloudy and little rainy lately, nice things dry out quick here in the desert...before you know it, will be in triple digit temperatures~little overcast today. Perfect weather for a hike!

Jaq - Is it past? Time for some much needed rest? Nobody needs a Mother's Day like that! The tree house should be nice and quiet today if you're looking for a retreat. Let us know if you need anything. Or maybe under the shade tree down at the swimming hole at the creek might be just what you need.

Kay - Your day sounds much better than Jaq's! Larry came through once again!!

KB - Congratulations!!!! I think spending one more summer as a kid before you join the big people's world sounds like a great idea! Enjoy!! (I'll let you in on a little secret - After this summer, there's no reason to stop being a kid! You can still be a kid LONG after you become an adult!)

Snow - Haven't seen you since your hangover!! Is the big day still the 25th? Yeah, I can see where it might be crazy time for you! Let me know if you need my help.

Maui - You'll love "noodle hockey"! Everyone can play; very few rules; getting smacked with a noodle really doesn't hurt; and best of all lots of laughter.

Time for some breakfast and then over to the garden. Going to be another very busy week!

Life is good!

Brutal Mothers Day here. The Tropical storm made land fall here. Started yesterday and still going. Very slow moving with an enormous amount of rain. I have spent the day in condos on hands and knees wet vacuuming and mopping. 2 more inches tonight and then hopefully it will depart. We expect a good bit of flooding, nothing like Texas I hope. Not a sexy mothers day. emoticon

Enjoyed seeing my old buds from Sacramento last night at the Tiki party, they put on a great event, and it's always fun to see what new drinks are on the menu! My friend collects Tiki mugs from all over, so everyone has a different one, so cool! emoticon

And mom enjoyed her Mother's day brunch and mimosas (my sisters too!) emoticon so it was a nice day. Larry cooked his butt off! I don't think he's ever made that many omelettes in a day!

I'm still waiting on the rest of my seeds to shoot up....not very patiently! emoticon

Hey everybody! Happy Mother's day to those on deck and silent prayer for those Mothers in Heaven......reading through the post, holidays and anniversaries when a loved one has passed can be rough.

emoticon Finally finished with classes and got my degree! emoticon Think just going to fart around over the summer before eventually becoming an adult, and getting a real job. I still have few things lined up for the summer, more like fun jobs~like camp councilor and lifeguard! I doubt we will do anything like axe throwing, can definitely brush up on archery skills.

Love how everyone is staying active!

First of all, Hugs Choc. Those kinds of anniversaries are tough!

Secondly, Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there!

The Mother's Day hoopla here yesterday was a big hit! It was a beautiful day weather wise and their kayak trip was a blast (helped I'm sure by the fact that they each had their personal Black Box wine with them!) They were using their smart phones to "call in" various birds along the creek. Had some really fun encounters with a barred owl that kept swooping in on them, a very cooperative Baltimore Oriole that gave them a real close up and a bald eagle that came in close as well. When I picked them up at the end of their float they were all as giddy as little girls at a sleepover! (Oh! "they" refers to Luv and our DILs!)

I'm happy to say that my lasagna was a hit and then we ended the day with a really great game of "noodle hockey"! We need to play that on the deck some night! I guarantee that you'll never play a game that you'll do more laughing in!

Life is good!

I am good, thanks for asking. Shoulders seem none the worse for the wear. Spent the day taking my mother flower shopping - it's best for us if she picks out her own gift!

I envy those of you who got to go hiking. I could have used some of that, but am having one of those "wall to wall" kind of days. Chock, sorry to hear about your sister. We always carry the memory of those we love in our hearts.

Here in a minute I am going to go out on the porch with dh and we will sit and whittle our bow drill spindles so they will be ready for class tomorrow. It's supposed to be another hot day but supposed it will be cooler next week. Hope so or I am going to have to start getting up earlier to go walk/hike before it gets too hot in the day.

Maui...Knees are good ....(not sure about the rest of this old body, LOL) haven't hiked quite as much this week due to bad weather & "life stuff" postponing hikes but still met my weekly mileage goal... Hopefully will get more hikes in this coming week

Today is the 2-year "anniversary" of my older sister's death :-( visited her grave, then also put flowers on my mom & dad's grave at a different cemetery ... Made for a sad day of memories, but I'm home now, the rain has stopped & the sun is shining, so maybe I'll get a short hike in after all..,.

Hug your loved ones everybody! You never know how long you have left with them

Sounds like a nice way to treat those moms in your life Wood!

Reso, sounds like you had a successful trip! Hope the ice and tiger balm do the trick!

Seems like we have the makings of a nice weekend here, it did rain last night to freshen things up, some of my seeds seem to be sprouting (the sunflowers, thyme and radishes).

Have a great weekend OP!

Oh no! I put a long early morning post on here ( or thought I did) and its nowhere to be seen.

Short version. Mother's Day party today. Glor and the DILs are going kayaking like the boys and I do for Fathers Day. Differenc wine instead of beer. Afterwards I will have the dinner waiting - lasagna!

Back to work!

I'm back! The boat ride was uneventful, which is good. The makeshift cooler did well. If you ever need a disposable cooler, the cheap styro one reinforced with duct tape worked really well and the duct tape handles were perfect.

I was able to do 3 separate private, one hour lessons during the course of the day. I could have done one more but had to cut it short to catch the last boat out. Besides, my shoulders were getting rather fatigued.

Out of God only knows how many throws, I was able to stick a couple dozen, and of those, about 5 were bulls-eyes. I also got to spend a couple of quality hours going over the details of where and what to buy and how to care for the equipment and also had a great discussion on the safest range set up and general safety concerns.

I crawled off the boat and came home to take a cool shower - it was over 90 degrees on the island and I was not very "fresh" afterward. Now I am sitting with a cold pack on my shoulders to hopefully pro actively ward off any lingering effects. After the ice I will slather some Tiger Balm on to make me feel all cool and tingly!

Then after a rest, I need to go out and cut the branches and gather enough dry tinder for the bow drill sets for Sunday. I will get the spindles and hearth boards tomorrow. The fun never ends!

Strive for peace, hope and perseverance.
