Morning Deckies!

Choc- Yay! Wonderful! Adventure plans arranged...always a happy moment! And a pretty day to boot!

Wood- My goodness...always lots of excitement around your place. I really appreciate the family/teamwork that's makes all this happen. You have set a great example for your 'boys' and more...how to make it happen.
And of to pick up the boat for summer! wow...love the sound of that.
Sore eh? well...my turn, I'll set up the massage table, back near the waterfall, so you can listen. Don't you love the sound?

Kay- wow...we have been toasty and more to come.
OK...The murph sounds crazy...with or without a vest...wow...you continue to inspire.
LArry having knee surgery...hmmm...same leg as ankle rework?

Well...we got the biggest tree topped with bird netting to help slow down vermin of all sorts. Hubby uses an old pool sweep pole, he put a hook on, to lift the netting about a very large old apricot tree (Maybe 60 years old). At the base we will wind trunk with the red snapr...we link the trees via a wire run through pvc pipe. lol...it works. All I have to do is remember to turn off the electric before going in to pick...haha.

Mary- Bread rising...I love we share this...hehe...have you recovered from the chess games? We have gaming with our adult children when they come...almost always...my brain always gets a work out.
Habit and ADD...haha...me to! Chores are a funny thing eh? I find it best to have a schedule / routine for many chores...it really helps! Hehe...most of the time...
And I live about 40 miles south of SF and the micro climates around here are quite something.
My yard seems to regularly have the most extreme weather experience for my area. Hotter when hot and colder when cold, more rain and wind than just a few miles away...haha...several neighbors keep weather stations to document. So...the good news...if we need a break...go to Santa Cruz for a walk. Or head to Big Basin state park redwoods...lots of options. Even in the winter when it is in the 30's here...it's likely a prefect day at the beach.
Yep...in Silicon Valley. (On the west most edge)

OK...any lurkers out there...stop by and say hi!
You are missed...

Become the change you wish to see in the world.

Here, a little patriotism to start your day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLYA
yu
f1I1Q

We do indeed live in a beautiful country! We are blessed.

Choc - Congrats on the "new" mini-van! Hope it carries that kayak to many beautiful ponds, streams, lakes and rivers! Enjoy!

Glor and I got out on the kayaks on our stream yesterday! Beautiful! Had the stream to ourselves! Except for the ducks, herons, etc.

Mary - Sounds like a great day to me. Starting the day with your own personal 5k is a great way to start the day! Life is good indeed!

Kay - Your Memorial Day workout makes me sore just thinking about it!

No wait! I'm sore because of my own day yesterday! Morning - Mulched the flower beds at the church. Afternoon - kayaked. Evening - well, yes, the evening. Got a call from my younger son at about 4:30. Seemed his well pump had died. On a holiday weekend no less! So his father-in-law, himself and yours truely decided we could pull his pump and fix or replace it. Turns out his well is over 350 ft. deep!!!!!!! ...and Devin and I + his wife on the Kabota pulled it by hand. The Kabota just pulled all the plastic pipe straight as we muscled it out of the well. I don't think I ever had such an extreme workout! Turned out the pump was shot and a wire was broken!!! Finally got the new pump into the ground around 10! Used our truck headlights for spotlights so we could see what we were doing! Totally exhausted but feeling great about our accomplishment!

Today, church, then off to Mom's to pick up our boat for the summer!

Have a great day everyone!

Life is grand!

Quick pop in to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday weekend!

Bought a "new used" car on Friday... Chrysler Town & Country mini van... Now I can put my kayak inside the van instead of on top or sticking out the back window! WOO HOO!!! Planning on getting the yak out later this week (lakes are too "crazy" crowded on a holiday weekend!)

Planning on visiting the cemetery today to put a flag on my dad's grave... He was a Master Sargent during WWII ...
emoticon
After that it's w quick shopping trip to REI to pick up a few more items for my August backpacking trip to Isle Royale National Park... Finally have all my reservations confirmed for that (seaplane, water taxi, park camping feed, etc... Looking forward to that outing!)

Beautiful sunrise this morning! Have a great day everyone! Choc :-)

Just keep swimming!

Never give up!

Sorry I missed the creek party, especially the rope swinging, I've been practicing!

I'm off work the next four days, so wonderful! No real plans, aside from the usual...will get to CrossFit on Monday, they do a Memorial day workout called "Murph" : "The original workout in memory of Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, 29, of Patchogue, N.Y.,who was killed in Afghanistan June 28th, 2005." (from "the murph challenge" website. It's a mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 pushups, 300 squats and another mile, in a 20 lb vest (or body armor). I've read some people actually do this in under 30 minutes! I'll be skipping the vest, and hoping for some kind of scaled version....and hoping I don't die during it!

Then Larry's having knee surgery on Tuesday...arthroscopic, so he should recover pretty quickly, according to the doctor.

Hope you all have some great weekend plans!

Circus! What a wonderful family memory Wood! I hear you about the ADD - once upon a time I could focus enough to get into chess without hurting my brain!

Maui stay cool! It always surprises me that your weather is so much warmer than ours...I'm at longtitude - 32 same as San Diego - I always thought San Francisco area was "up north" & cooler

Jo - hope you got some great rest!

Floating in the creek with y'all made my head all better! Got up early & jogged 5k, watered & fertilized then sat in an Adirondack chair under my live oak & vegged for a while! Life is good!

We may not even get out of the 70s today - crazy! Tropical moisture coming in - I better take Harry for his walk now...then I'm thinking about buying a few more veggie plants & getting them in the ground before the rain gets here...

Why did I water this morning with rain on the way? Habit & ADD I guess!

Have a great Saturday!

Pura Vida!

Been so long since I played chess, I don't think I remember how! Tough game for an ADD person like myself!

The circus was amazing!!!! My grandchildren were totally into it! Actually we were all really into it! Wish you could have seen my 5 year old - wide eyed, bouncing around, gasping and laughing! I was afraid that circuses were a thing of the past. Not so for the "Greatest Show on Earth"! Life is good!

I've been mulching all week (more to go), so how are we going to spend today MULCHING the flower beds at the church! LOL! It'll be fun!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Live! Love! Laugh!!!!!

Feels like summer here too Maui ..

enjoy the rope swing ... sounds like lots of fun ...

Instead of enjoying the great outdoors today I stuck myself in my room changing it about.. and refreshing the ensuite.. still not complete --but that is enough for today.

Enjoy your games everyone

My grandson has to be at the scout camp before 7 am so we will all be up and out the door ...

Ouch, ouch, ouch!!!! emoticon I need emergency medical laughter in the creek! emoticon My poor feeble brain is killing me!

Son and I have played 4 chess games in the last 3 days...I told him one a day was my limit but we played 2 this afternoon and my brain is aching - I'm not joking!

I taught son how to play many years ago but he never had an interest...but once AP exams were over a couple of weeks ago apparently all he and his friends have been doing at school is playing chess so now he has the bug - big time! Besides teaching him the last time I remember playing chess was a Christmas match with BIL probably 15 years ago!

Oh my - please lets play games tonight where not much thinking is involved!!!

If anyone's wondering - we are square - I won the first, he won the next two then I pulled out this last one. Thank goodness he got invited to go bowling at 7:30 tonight I really didn't want to play another game today - but the one on one time together sure is special! My dad taught me and we played often so it's sweet and bittersweet playing with son - wish dad was here to play with him!

I think a couple of beers while floating on a tube in the creek will ease my brain pain!!!

Then maybe some kabobs on the fire?

Pura Vida and Cheers! emoticon

Oh yay...creek party! Woohoo...NOW it feels like summer is on it's way for sure.

Woot woot!
So much to celebrate.

Play is just the best medicine.

I sure hope everyone has a great Memorial Day weekend.
We will be home all weekend, likely working on our fruit trees preparing to protect them from the squirrels...nets and electric charge! Oh yes...
Kay...have you thought about getting a system ? http://www.redsnapr.co.nz/redsnapr_drupal/
mains-energisers They work for us. One the squirrels have been zapped (doesn't kill them, just a good jolt)...later you can watch them circle the zone, staying an extra 4 feet back...hahaha great entertainment.

OK...chores calling.

Yes, Kay, busy indeed and it's all good!

Yesterday, there was only enough time to get a shower in between activities. (It's a real good thing there was time for that!!!) Volunteered for the Salvation Army in the morning. Prepped, planted and mulched some of my flower beds in the afternoon. (Much more to do! Went to gs's preschool graduation and then to his graduation party in the evening! Of course, the party included his new found love - doughnuts!

Today looks just as busy. Flower beds first thing this morning. Then rototil the garden and plant some peppers, more tomatoes and a few beans. Then we're taking the whole family to see the Barnum Baily/Ringling Bros. Circus! Our daughter in laws and our grandchildren have never been to a circus!!! Felt we needed to get everyone there before the circus goes the way of the dinosaurs!

Seems to me that a meeting of OP should be held at the creek somewhere around 11PM tonight. Bring your favorite adult beverage. I'll build a bonfire. We'll put that rope swing to good use! As always down at the creek, swimming suits optional!

Have a great day everyone!

Life is good!

Kay I thought of you today!

In my yard early this morning I glanced at my kayak...then did a double-take...there was a squirrel on top hydrating him/herself by licking the dew on my yak...

Luckily this was front yard...garden is in back...

Warm here today...I'm grabbing a rope & swinging into the creek!

Sleep well Jo - loved the gk zoo pictures!

Maui - I've never been to Hawaii...I'll be seeking your advice if we ever go...I can't handle tourist traps...I am so with you about the driving! Was so lucky that I could take train to mom but now the 10am train to her only runs Fri-Sat-Sun so that's thrown a little kink into the system...up side is train was packed on Sunday and I had nice chats on platform with young folk from DC and on train with older lady from Savannah...thought of you today when I was feeding Hermione!

Wood - yep I think you need to meet us with Maui's wine in the hot tub! Any catching? Or just fishing? Both are good! Just being on the water...ahhhhh

5+ miles on sneakers and 4+ miles on kayak today plus almost 2 hours in doctors office for son's well visit...his doc likes to talk talk talk about the college process which is awesome since he has 2 in college now that went to son's nerd school so he has good advice...

OK time for bed to figure strategy tomorrow...son wants to take boat out with 3-5 friends...I said I need texts from those friends' parents saying they're ok with it and haven't gotten 1 text yet...'

17 - so close to being grown-up but so many oyster shells that will slice your feet if you jump out of the boat without proper shoes and so many kids that just moved here and have no idea! And won't listen to their captain ( my son)...so I want to know these parents know the risks...

AHHHH-hot tub, wine, berries.....

Pura Vida!

Howdy Deckies!

Welp...I either got a cold or horrible allergies. Haven't quite determined ...but sheesh...

Wood- well...I bet you are sore! Good for you though...running...and all. Your running the loop around your neighborhood? Those are good hills.
Earned pain...yes!
I did hills Monday as I said and no sore quads from the jog back...very cool.
And another truckload of mulch! Our best friend that mulch...hehe...I need more. CAn you believe it??

Mary- checking tides...love it. You know, we are quite the swimmers/snorkelers in Hawaii (Where the water is warm enough to go in) and tide checking happens every day. Moon rise, sun set, tides...all that good stuff for us outdoor folks.
Sleeping in...haha...can't do it. My mind's eye know it's getting light soon and wake I do. One day I slept till 7 and was like wow!
Walking , gardening, paddling...all good good.
Did you get out for your paddle?

Was up again at my sons yesterday ... windy drive! Crazy on the road...the trucks were all over the lanes...ack! Some days I hate driving.
Hiking is so much safer... emoticon

Choc- Arg..yep...trees sound iffy. But did you get out on that hike?
Tis the season for sure.

Jo- walking and enjoying then rest...good plan.

I am truly enjoying watching my garden grow...tomoatoes setting by the dozens...yippee. :)

Wood- hot tub tonight??? You'll be ready I bet.
I have some berries to bring, some wine to open...the waterfall plantings are looking quite nice this week. Maybe some pool laps and hot tub time to relax those sore muscles after all that exercise.

Yesterday I ran 3 miles, I mowed my property (equals another 3 miles), I spread a truckload of mulch, and I ended the daylight part of the day fishing from my kayak over at the lake at the state park. Today, everything hurts! No run today. However, I will get another truckload of mulch!

Sometimes you feel you earned the pain and all is good.

Peace!

Good morning deckies!

Gosh I haven't been out on this deck or out here at home nearly enough lately...oh well sometimes other things get in the way...I have been tending my little garden and doing a little walking but other than that mostly handling several projects for my mom...1 is complete, 1 will be complete by weeks end, the third will take more time...

Hubby threw away yesterday's paper so I'm online checking the tides...high tide's not until 11am so think I'll go for a run before going for a paddle...it's overcast right now and 66F - love it! but have a feeling the clouds will burn off as the temp rises to 85F by midday...so I better hit that trail now!

School's out for Summer! Yippee! Can't believe I'm not sleeping in! But son and hubby are! emoticon

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Maui... Oh yeah, there was no doubt about the trees... Dry brown "twigs" with the needles falling off at the slightest touch ... The few that have survived at least looked a little green and I could see new "buds" forming... The potted trees I bought to replace the dead ones are about twice as tall and had a really well formed root ball, so I'm hoping I'll have better luck with those.

We finally are having sunny & warm weather (mid to high 70's), so I'm heading out to do some more yard work
(And maybe a hike later)

Have a terrific Tuesday everyone!

Morning Deckies!
Busy busy busy...that time of year??? Don't we often say this??? haha...part of what I really appreciate about this group is how active you are...so often too busy to be here! haha...Life is good for sure.

Choc- Oh gosh...sorry about the trees. Are you sure you should give up so soon??? Everyone is different...and maybe they will come along soon?

Wood- Thanks for the encouragement about my hiking and jogging. It's not really running...but a jog...good for me anyhow. Did it again yesterday. I am not up to where you are (3 miles) but...if I can just jog I am happy. :) Yes...feels great. I am trying to really activate quads and have reliable cooperation between quads, hamstrings and glutes. I think my quads rest when they want. This downhill jog forces the issue...haha.
Yes, a Turkey vulture lesson in what nature shows us...what matters, right?????

Kay- yep...basil does not like cold. I just put mine in...this up and down weather has been rough on the plants. My tomatoes are happy though...growing quite well. They are well mulched. Also...squirrels like to dig in dirt. Maybe if you can , surround your garden plot area with woody mulch...maybe this would help too. Darn vermin. Furry rats.
You know, 3 mornings ago, I looked out my kitchen window, and a juvenile Red Tail Hawk, teenager, was sitting on our back fence. Looking about! Thank you! He swooped down though my yard...yay! He can live here for sure. We still have 3 redwood trees out back, maybe they are nesting there. :)

Jo-Cute pic!!!! Always good to be home.

OK...list list list...yep...I am one of those...I write lists.

See you soon my friends.

Good morning OP!

Jo - I'm sure your GS will have a great time camping this weekend. My oldest GD was camping this past weekend with the Girl Scouts - rained the whole weekend! They still had a wonderful weekend. I love it that my grandkids are able to get out there and enjoy themselves even when the weather is not perfect! Or maybe it is? Ever notice how the world just looks different in "bad" weather? The trees appear greener. The clouds provide interest in their swirling, shape changing awesome ways! Even the sound of rain provides a relaxing atmosphere to a very quiet environment. Don't get me wrong. I love sunny days as well, but sometimes, I love the rain! BTW - Loved the pic of the grandchildren. Your involvement with them makes me smile.

Kay - I frequently revisit OP members SparkPages. It fascinates me as I feel I learn more about who they are and where they come from. I love how your pictures reflect the adventures you've and Larry have had: the running, the rock climbing, the hiking, the travel. You live the life of adventure and I applaud you for it! Life is good!

Isn't it interesting how something as ugly as a turkey buzzard can soar the sky with such beauty? A lesson there, I think.

Life is good!

Sorry about your trees, Choc, hope the more established ones do better!

My frostbit basil seems to have bounced back...so I covered the cage last night, just in case!

Wood, great to get out hiking in the rain, and having the trails to yourselves too!

We had 4 turkey vultures sitting on our back fence yesterday morning...after they took off, I went out on one of the boulders back there with my breakfast and watched them gliding on the thermals over the canyon, and one swooped about 5 feet over my head, pretty amazing from that POV! Also enjoyed a nice longish hike in the canyon, and the one over, it wasn't too warm, so no sunburn for me!

Well, better get off to work! Happy Monday!

Many many years ago I bought a bunch of bear root trees from the National Arbor Society. I'm afraid my success rate was not that good either. Besides, by planting more larger balled stock we get to really enjoy mature trees much sooner. Let's face it: we're not that young anymore so if we really want to see results maybe we do need to spend those extra dollars.

Drizzle, Drizzle and more drizzle. We have had some rain I think for the last 9 weekends in a row! Yesterday, with Shelly visiting, we decided the heck with the forecast! She and I put on our raincoats and our baseball caps and we went hiking in the rain! You know what? We had a good time doing it! We certainly had the trails to ourselves!

Although I don't plan on putting much of a garden out, I do plan on getting tomatoes, peppers and jalapenos out. So far haven't touched my veggie garden. Maybe tomorrow afternoon.
Having some friends over for breakfast and cards. Her birthday.

Maui - I'm thrilled that you're able to do some running again! Feels good doesn't it? I've been getting 3 miles in about 3x a week and I'm pretty pleased with myself as well. However I will admit I'm sore most of the time. Maybe it's time to set up the massage table on the deck again!

Need to go, (not that way, Maui) but I'll be back tomorrow. Have a great evening everyone!

Life is good!

Out of all those 20 "bare root" Norway spruce trees I planted about a month ago only about half "might" survive :(
Not sure if it was the very cold spring we've been having or just that bare root trees don't have a "good" survival rate
... At any rate, today I purchased 9 bigger "potted" spruce trees (some Norway Spruce some "Black Hills" spruce) and spent the day pulling out the dead & "almost dead" bare root trees and replaced them with the potted trees... Hoping spending the extra money for bigger & "more established" trees will bring better results... Don't think I'd ever try planting bare root trees again... Was a big waste of time, effort and money!!!!
Oh well... Live & Learn! emoticon

Woke up this morning, and was pleasantly surprised to find it's calm out! emoticon and sunny! emoticon so I should be able to hit the trails without armoring up!

I put in a couple of tomato plants, a serrano pepper and a small purple basil yesterday, in the squirrel proof cage....I think the frost may have done the basil in last night, I should have thought about that! emoticon Will need to pay more attention!

I also put in a bunch of different onion starts....they had a variety pack at the local nursery I went to, so I thought I'd give it a try. (thanks Maui!)

Wanted to get some plants in Thursday since I had the day off, but the wind! And it's still blowing...got some sprinkles last night, still with the wind, so the window leaked...And it's still blowing. One of my work friends said their barbeque blew over, if that give you any idea of the strength of these winds!

But at least it's sunny!

Jo, glad the little one is better, enjoy the pandas!

Maui, great that you are having fun on the trails!

Choc, glad you had a sunny day to get out in the yard!

Awesome hike/jog Maui ..

My gs will be in a one week only program ---not confirmed as of yet...

We are heading to the big city(LOL) for an overnight stay.. while there we will visit the zoo -- I have free passes.. and will see the baby pandas born ... they are like 6 months old now ..
I am not too impressed with zoos but.... only way in my life to see these beautiful animals.. and at the Toronto zoo they are well looked after and have almost natural habitats...

Everyone enjoy your weekend ... loving this weather

Oh my...I am trying to catch up...finding myself a wee bit behind.
But...had a great hike with my hike buddy.
Ran/jogged the last 2 miles back again...haha...but I ahd to pee soooooooooooo bad...hahaha...I know tmi...but it was just what I needed...the hike that is.

Wood- did your project get all done in time?? Nice you are using some of your photographs to decorate. We do that here too! Hubby's pics all around. :)
Have fun with the company.
GD volleyball...Fantastic! She's quite a good buddy for you and Luv...(Apples don't fall too far from the tree)
The work you do as a volunteer...yes...not small. You and Luv are such a light in the lives of many...including me. Thanks my friend.

Kay- outsmarting squirrels...not easy...but worth it. Once they make a habit of your crops...they bring friends. They are often after water too...the moisture in the plants. I keep a trap set at all times...and I am hoping the population is down. I have tomatoes setting...apricots will need to be netted next weekend. They don't like onions and garlic...maybe you can plant a 'barrier'.

Choc- yay...warmer weather for you! We are actually windy and cool here today, and supposed to get some rain/sprinkles tomorrow! Every drop helps. Great you get to get the garden plant ed...fun fun.

Mary- I am feeding Johnny and June today...hehe...Always makes me think of you. What is your son doing this summer?

Kay...wonder if this storm will make it up your way.

Jo- Here comes summer...will the gkids have summer activities different from school year?
Hehe...cute pic of visitor.

OK...chores are calling, but...it's nice to be back home on the deck.
I think I'll head to the hot tub tonight. My quads may thank me... emoticon

Good morning Deckies!

Beautiful sunny morning here and we're supposed to have "real" spring weather "at last" for the next few days! WOO HOO!!!! Sunny & temps in the mid to high 70's and best of all, no more frost warnings at night! So today's outdoor activities will include finishing my veggie garden plantings and mowing the lawn! Should keep me busy most of the day!

Have a fantastic Friday everyone!

That sounds like such a rewarding volunteer experience, Wood, hope it did benefit those guys you worked with, I suppose being assigned community service could help a person see how rewarding life can be helping others if they are open to it.

Jo, hope the little one is feeling better!

Cat, hope May brightens up down there soon!

That said, we are overcast today....the forecast is for cloudy skies, no rain. I may move my squirrel cage system into the new garden area, and see if I can plant something in there, the only thing that's still going from my earlier attempt is the kale that is locked behind the cage...so it should work.

Good morning my OP friends!

Rise and shine! It's another great day to be alive!

Glor and I are just about done with the bathroom renovations. Mostly put back together and it looks really good. Just have to rehang the curtains and come up with some pictures for the walls. I think we're going to pick out a couple of my photographs and frame them.

I know that I've talked about our volunteer work with Nomads many times in the past and about how much this kind of service work just plain makes me feel good! Well we do some other service work through our church and for me through a hiking club as well. But Gloria and her friends put in a tremendous amount of time through other groups as well: mostly through their quilting group where they produce a lot of quilts, pillow cases, tote bags and other items that go to a number of charities that include children's hospitals, cancer funds, and veteran's hospitals. They have also become very involved with The Salvation Army over the past year. I found out there's a lot more to the "Army" beyond the bell ringing at Christmas! Well Glor has now managed to get me involved as well and once again, I find it being very fullfilling being part of the organization. As always, the thing that most impresses me is the people who give of themselves freely and enthusiastically! In a world that is filled with negative thoughts and hate, these organizations are manned by positive thinkers that are simply there to make a positive impact no matter how small that impact may be. (BTW I don't think it's small at all!) I'm fortunate enough to still be in fairly good shape so I end up being "the muscle", the guy who moves things around. This week, I got to work with two men that were there not because they wanted to be there but because they were assigned to be there as community service time put on them by the courts. Neither of them were the kind of guys you would think of doing this kind of work, but I'll tell you what, I really enjoyed working with both of them! Conversation came easy and the time passed rapidly. I don't know that this work will change their lives, but I assure you that working with all these positive people, it will provide a positive light in their world.

I'm so very happy that being retired provides me with these kinds of opportunities.

Life is good!

Sounds like this weather is crazy all over! It's still May gray in my part of the world. Every now and then we get little bits of sun. Not too much rain, though, so that's good. Just a couple sprinkles here and there.

Nothing new to report on my end. Busy evening. Kiddo has violin, then hitting the farmer's market for dinner, and I've got dance class at 8. My day is going to be super chill, though.

Have a great one!

I know I posted yesterday. I wonder where it went and what I said?

We've got a home improvement project going right now. We totally have the one bathroom torn down. (Well not totally, bathtub area is still intact.) Mostly just cosmetic. Replaced the ceiling fan/light, stripped the wallpaper off and repaired the walls. Today we'll start painting. Getting a guest for the weekend so we need to finish before then. (DC)

Went to GD's last volleyball game for the season yesterday! Lost the first match (very close), but won sets 2 and 3 so they did win the game! Great game! Jacey (my granddaughter) played all 3 games and had a great night. Her overhand serve was right on and a big factor especially in game 2. Proud Pop!

Have a great day everyone!

Happy Monday, deckies! Sounds like everyone had a great weekend for the most part, even given the weather! It was overcast all weekend here too, but BF and I did happen to catch the 30 minutes of sunshine each day for our walks.

Maui, welcome back!!! I can't wait to hear all about your adventures. I really need to get back out to Hawaii soon.

My weekend was REALLY lazy, lol. The BF took his last final of his first year of law school on Friday and we spent all night partying. Then we woke up early for my BFF's graduation - the ceremony started at 8 a.m.! Oh, we were hurting emoticon , but still in good spirits! It's hard not to be in good spirits when someone you love is celebrating such a HUGE accomplishment.

After that, though, BF and I pretty much spent the entire rest of the weekend sleeping, lol. We got out for a walk each day, and I made it to my two hours of dance on Sunday, but aside from that, we were snuggled under the covers passed out. Then last night we went to karaoke at a local bar. I don't usually sing, but saw that they had one of my favorite songs - Coin-Operated Boy by Dresden Dolls.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAnyYTjjhJ0

So I decided to sing it, and then the host announced that I was the first person to ever sing that song at that bar! Very cool. Also fun fact: That singer, Amanda Palmer, is married to Neil Gaiman. Neil Gaiman! So rad. What a perfect couple.

Anyway, have a great Monday, everyone!

Yep, I remember snails being a big problem when I lived in Sac, hated the buggers and the slimy trails they left all over my berries! And Larry does his best with the air rifle, but we have so many (and acres behind us that just have more) that I'm not sure that's going to really help, considering they have wiped out almost everything I planted so far...and I mean to the ground! I may just give up on growing food, and try planting something else until we can completely enclose the garden (maybe a green house?)

Choc, snow? Wow....we cooled down since yesterday, but not that cold!

Maui, welcome back from Hawaii! What fun!

Jo, maybe the neighbors would say "yes" about the hot tub, if they don't use it, they may be grateful to have it gone!

Happy Chilly Sunday everyone!

Gardening day for me...I finally got out there for a few of hours of much needed weeding this morning...taking a brunch break now and logging on my nutrition tracker - something I desperately need to do if I'm going to attempt to get back to goal weight!

I'll head back out to fertilize and mulch soon...think I'll take my phone and little blue-tooth speaker with me and listen to some tunes while I'm out there...I always take it on boat and when I solo kayak...wonder why I've never listened while I dug?

Wood I would love a irl paddle with y'all! I completely agree with the Aladdin philosophy!

Choc - there was a frost advisory as far south as Cinci where my sister lives...last night was niece's prom - sis said the poor girls were freezing at the pre-prom outdoor photo shoot! Luckily sis insisted on taking a jacket for niece and niece was declared the smartest girl there!

Jo - did it frost up there as well?

Kay - squirrels are in the oak trees all around my yard but don't bother my garden - I guess it's either they're well fed by all of the acorns or they're scared off by the urine of my ferocious 10 lb Harry emoticon My nemesis is the lowly snail - I plucked hundreds from the dirt as I weeded this morning - at least they're easy to catch!

OK - heading over to the tracker to log my brunch - enjoy the day!

Pura Vida!

Snow showers!!! No thank you!!!! Chilly here as well, but beautiful blue sky and brilliant sunshine! We're having a professional outdoor family photo shoot today. It's going to be a little cool.

Jo - Read a book many years ago entitled the Aladdin Factor. It had a huge influence on my life. The basis of the book is this: Aladdin had a lamp with a Genie in it. The Genie would grant wishes, but order to do that Aladdin had to ask for the wish. The author stated that if you don't ask, you don't get. We tend to be afraid to ask for things because we're afraid of negative responses: we might be laughed at, or we might sound greedy, or our request sounds illogical, or we're afraid of being turned down or rejected. Thing is, if we don't ask then it doesn't happen. Want a room upgrade? Ask. Want a lower price on an item you're buying? Ask. Want to have someone join you on a trip? Ask. Want to marry her? Ask. Interested in the neighbors neglected hot tub? Ask. Asking has become a part of life for me. You would not believe how often people will grant your wishes! Of course, it doesn't always work, but what's the worst that can happen? You might get turned down. Big deal. You'll get over it! Try it on the hot tub. Find out first what it's worth and then make a much lower offer on it. Take a lesson from Aladdin - ask!

Kay - Hot chili spray didn't work for me. You can buy predator urine at hunting and trapping stores, but again I'm skeptical. Fences? They're easy to trap but then you still have to figure out how to get rid of them. Take them for a ride a couple of miles away? I swear they find their way back! Those little buggers can climb anything! About the only thing that works for me is a good quality air gun!''

Time to start moving. Have a great Sunday everyone!

Happy Saturday!

Thinking up ways to thwart my mortal enemies....those d$%^$#@ squirrels! So far, google has told me to use fences, predator urine and/or garlic, hot chili spray, trapping or feeding them far from the garden. I may go for the chili spray first, I think it would be easiest to try first. I'm guessing predator urine may be harder to come by, unless I could coax those coyotes we hear at night over to the yard....

Choc, fun trip planning!

Cat, I agree about that offer, while it shows they really value your work, it's a big commitment to make, and time away from your kiddo....I think you can provide your value to them in less committing ways.

Wood, nice to fine a new fishing friend!

Mary, hope you see more dolphins! I love that you get to kayak with them.

Jo, hope the hot tub is on the short-term project list!

Maui, out hiking and gardening?

Snow, Kelpie, Dan? anyone else out there? Have a great weekend!

Wood ... Yup on kayaking those lakes... They are definitely on my list of favorites! Haven't kayaked yet this spring... Between our unusually cold spring (frost warnings tonight, AGAIN) and all the yard work I've been doing it just seems like I haven't had time yet! I really need to start exploring the lakes, streams and trails up here around my new home so I don't need to drive so far just to get out and bike, hike and kayak!

Off to run Sat morning errands... Be back later... Have a great day everyone!

Great evening on the water! Even caught some fish! Nothing big, but they were fun! Actually the best part of the fishing was the camaraderie. The friend that went with me is a relatively new friend and it was the first time we fished together. Turned out to be the best fishing companion I've had in many years! Lots of laughter! Life is good!

Jo - maybe you ought to see if the neighbor is ready to sell their hot tub. Might be a good way to get one at a big savings?

Mary - By hiking back from where you dropped the car off gives you a nice extra activity there - the hike. I like that! I've kayaked with Maui, with Choc and with DC in the past. I think somewhere in the future we need to get a paddle in as well.

Choc - Do you still ever kayak on those little lakes where all the swans were? I really enjoyed that spot.

Enjoy the Saturday everyone!

Life is good!

Mary enjoy your kayaking tomorrow ..
My son and I both want the hot tub ...not sure where it is on the list... my son plans for everything... financially... speaking..

Hey Deckies!

Choc - you rock! you've got your solo hiking system figured out!

Cat- enjoy your Friday! I'm sure supervisor will respect your answer & send more responsibilities your way.

Kay- you've really got that crossfit bug- love it!

Jo- a hot tub at home is in your future?

Wood- loved the early morning paddle yesterday! My favorite time - sun not so harsh, winds & waves usually calm & most likely time to see dolphins!

Likely will be on the water early tomorrow...first I'll take my car to my planned extraction point & hike the 4 miles back to my launch point...not sure whether I'll have company or go solo...I enjoy both so either way is great!

Have a great evening!

Pura Vida!
Mary

A little consideration, a little thought for others makes all the difference.

Thanks Wood.... I think maybe because I've lived alone for so many years I've just grown accustom to doing things alone when needed, whether it's home & garden chores or trips and outdoor adventures (Though I certainly do enjoy doing those things with family and friends whenever I have the opportunity! LOL)

Speaking of chores ... I better get busy with yard work!

Have a great Friday!
Catch y'all later!

Good morning Deck friends!

Cat - Sounds to me that you've got a very workable plan! First of all, as it's probably obvious to everyone here, I am a firm believer that you've got to have "Me Time". As much as we might like our jobs, taking time to pursue non-work activities. They round out our lives, keep us whole, and make us more interesting people! I have a couple of friends who "live" for their jobs. They love what they do, but then when it comes to doing something outside the job, they're lost and uncomfortable. Then when it comes to the stage of life I'm in (retirement) they are bored to death and have no idea how to entertain themselves. You've got the right idea. Love your job, but seek out adventures! There's my old man advice for this morning!

Choc - I love the fact that you're so independent! Not just anybody can be comfortable out there on their own. I only did it once in my life and I thought I was going to love time of just me and nature. Much to my surprise I found out that when by myself I was a "day hiker" happy wandering by myself and my creator but allowed myself to be spooked by the feeling of lonesomeness after crawling into the sleeping bag. You will always impress me my friend!

Jo - Yep, a couple of us here do love our hot tubs! However, I will say that a lot of people buy them and get very little use out of them after the first month. To me, it's my spot for meditation and for grounding myself to my world.

Busy evening last evening - first went to one granddaughter's volleyball game then went straight from there to our other granddaughter's softball game. Well actually we stopped at a township park to have a picnic in between. Unfortunately, it was a disappointing evening to both girls as their teams got kicked pretty thoroughly! Part of growing up as competitors! Proud of both of them. As you all know, I love active women and I want my granddaughters to grow up with that sense of self worth and independence!

Hope to go fishing with a friend this evening, but the weather report doesn't look good! Might be card playing instead.

Carpe diem!

Wood
