Stay warm, Jo! Family movie night sounds like fun!

I woke up thinking it felt like Monday, so I'm really happy to remind myself it's really Saturday! My brain is so mixed up from heading down to Roseville on Thursday...

We're supposed to have a warm sunny day here, better get out and enjoy it!

No more cranky pants! I put on my traveling shoes and headed down the hill, met up with 8 of my former work buddies...it was fun! And then stayed the night at my dad's and got to spend some more time with my aunt and uncle. Then I headed back up this morning, and ended up going to CrossFit early, so it feels good to have that all done!

I'll be roasting some butternut squash and asparagus tonight, maybe that will go with the soup and salad?

Maui, I bet things are growing like weeds, bunches of trees were blooming as I approached the Sac/Roseville area, seems crazy! They were telling me the almond orchards are at least a week ahead of schedule. And we have sun! So no skiing today, Larry thought tomorrow would be the better day, and I wanted to get in my CrossFit, so we'll ski tomorrow when its really sunny!

Wood, loved the words of wisdom, it's always a treat to read your treatises, no matter the subject! I guess I'm glad the CrossFit gym doesn't have the wall of mirrors...I can't see what I look like and can just go with my imagination!

Hehe...No Cranky pants!
Haha...loved this image Kay.

Hmmm, so what pants am I wearing today?
Liberated! My liberated pants are on and I am not stressing!
Just sayin...

What pants are you wearing?

Wood-lucky gkids, lucky you.

Kay- did you sneak in your ski?

Neal- Where are you?

Kelpie- yep...I see a goofy sentence too...lol. Happy Friday to you. All better? Getting in aqua workouts?

Mary- Must be bread day again...lol...I am feeding tomorrow.
Valentine's Day almost here, so is your son still seeing the new girl? Remember young love Valentine's Days??? How fun to watch. Soup...what kind of soup??

Jo- Yep...Wood is quite a thoughtful writer...Love it, right? Every time he writes, Its a good day. Oh I bet you are chilly too! Hugs.

Wood- Always good to chat. I did get out to do something 'out of the box'...went on a hike again! By myself. But I went on a more public trail...a paved trail which I don't care for. (it's harder on my knees)...but I went. Glad you got to ski!
Do you think you'll be able to take the gkids out for a ski?
Upper 70's again...

Choc- guess what? I have planned for Valentine'sDay for hubby...Pireogies. Your recipe. Making onion and potato. ;) That's our current fav. Always makes me think like you are here. Herbs are growing like a weed right now with all this sun. I hope water/rain is on it's way back.

Snow- you there??? Or are you up at the snow?

Dan- Your temps must be chili...tomorrow morning I am making savory 'dutch baby' in my cast iron skillet...yep...you guessed...you are right there. ;) Still sledding? Our snow in Yosemite is melting like crazy this week. The waterfalls are huge. But we need more snow...

OK...Time to fly. Weeds, planting some greens and turnips, all good exercise , which helps my spirit.
Catch ya later peeps.

Hey Deckies!

Wood and Jo - Speaking of aging I know y'all know mom has been dealing with eye issues...well last week we added dental issues to the list...when I took the train to her we went to lunch and she broke a tooth...went immediately to her dentist office - they love her there! - they got her back immediately - dentist spent at least 45 minutes with her - emergency visit and x-ray - grand total $18 - gotta love small towns! He's been her dentist for at least 45 years - hubby says no wonder he hasn't retired - he doesn't charge enough! He wasn't sure tooth was crownable and he doesn't do crowns anymore so got 2nd opinion here on Monday - luckily it can be crowned.

One of mom's comments to me was "If you're dealing with all this in my late 80s just think what you'll have to deal with when I'm up in my 90s!" She's planning to enjoy many more years even with all of the "age-related issues". Love her attitude! She is certainly taking Wood's advice and not living with fear!

Kelpie - "Funnily, the rest of thhhe e e e stae stae stafppyabou thesf mtttesf mt" - now that truly is funny!!!! I attempted to read it out loud and cracked myself up!

Kay - cranky pants - boy did I have them at a meeting last night (booster club) - there was a motion put on the table that I completely disagreed with - it didn't pass but I was dismayed it could even be considered...luckily only a few more meetings before my term is up!

Dan - sounds like you're quite the sledding daredevil!

I tried to do something outside my comfort zone today but turns out I didn't. It's been chilly and very windy here - not the kind of weather I like to go out in. So today I put on extra layers and went for a 5 mile walk. Well the wind died down and it got much warmer - I didn't need my gloves and had to shed layers! Oh well...at least I got out there.

It's soup and salad night here. I'll bring some to the deck!

Pura Vida!
Mary

Most important things first!

Jo! I think we all go through these times when we wish we were younger. I know I do! It's so easy to go back and revisit those times when we were young and dumb and we think , "now that was fun!" However when we're honest to ourselves, those times were also filled with trying, difficult times as well! (Yes they were. Life's just that way.) It's difficult for me to look in the mirror and see this guy looking back with a grey beard and weathered skin. And it can be tough when I'm at the gym with it's damned mirrored wall and realize that even though I work out pretty hard, I no longer have the muscle I had when I was 40 and it's strange knowing that I'm pretty much invisible to the younger kids working out around me! Oh, long life spans are not part of my family line as well and I've already experienced glancing at what's on the other side of "crossing over" several times.

So what do we do about it? First of all, we come to grips with the fact that we are no longer "young" in body and we may not be turning the heads of those younger than us, but (get this, it's important) we do still turn the heads of a lot of those who are in the same approximate age group as ourselves! I know that I certainly was a girl watcher back in my youth, but much to my surprise the only thing that has changed about that is that I now watch a much more mature "girls" and I still enjoy the activity every bit as much! You've probably noticed me girl watching here on the deck. Why do you think I enjoy giving the massages!

It's a cliche to say that we're as young as we feel and maybe not even 100% accurate, but I absolutely do know that getting out and being active is what keeps us vibrant and interesting. True, we may be more limited on the time we have to party here in this lifetime, but I firmly believe (and live at this point in my life) that that's exactly why we have little time to be unsatisfied in our life and get out there find whatever it is that makes us alive again!

In your photo gallery, there is a picture of a dog rolling in the mud and I quote you here: "life is good--if you want to roll in the mud--do it! It could be fun!" Do it! Roll in the mud! Some of us here on the deck will join you if you like!!! Life is supposed to be an adventure! Live it without fear! That's one of the best things about being part of this team - you're surrounded by active adventurous fun loving people. Worry about being old tomorrow. Today is for being "young"!

Oh, and if you're looking for support, there are people here on the deck that you can feel comfortable with sending a personal message to if you aren't comfortable with our group approach!

Now, Kay, get rid of those "cranky pants"!!!! It's not your best look!

Dan, it's those close calls that keep the blood pumping!

Maui - As always, loved the phone call!

Choc - Where are you? Celebrating?

Finally got out yesterday skiing! It was great! We're in a COLD snap now so the snow should last. Hope to ski every day for a week or so!

Life is good! Do something outside your comfort zone today!

Wood

I just about bit it big on Monday sliding around a corner and half off the sled! lol
Shrimp seasons are early Yipppeeee more grits!
On the way down to the hot tub with some more cellar wine see you all there.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHOC!!! late as usual.

Since we can do nothing to stop the march of time, I'm with Wood, better to look for those silver linings! Although I may need new glasses to see them!

Kelpie, you were breaking up at the end there, but it sounds like overall the day went well?

I've been wearing my cranky pants all day...so I may just do laps in the pool until they go away...

Frozen here too Wood...
oh Wood I am so having a hard time about getting older -- I don't mean to ..most is good ..
Both my parents died at 62 then 64 -- my siblings early 70's ... think I am letting it get to me instead of getting out and enjoying life as I know it here... which really is fantastic.

Hope everyone has had a great day-- we had snow all night all day and still coming down.. wow most snow all winter now.

Kelpie - I've been having some weird problems on my lap top lately, so I don't know if that one line on your post is the way you typed it or if my computer is scrambling it. Either way I can't decipher it!

Jo - Great new profile pic! Sorry I didn't stop in last night and therefore couldn't give you that massage, but today?

Mary - Lots of good things about getting older. We just have to open our eyes to them and stop crying the blues about the negatives!

Looking out my front window this morning looks like a scene from frozen!

Happy Birthday Choc and Jo's sis!!!! emoticon

Choc - how'd the reboot go! Great I hope! emoticon

Jo - hope the neck is relaxing! Will you and gks build a snowman? emoticon

Wood - hope you're out skiing right now! emoticon

Kelpie - disruptive kiddo - so unfair to the rest of the class including the teacher! If anyone can get this parent to see the problem it is you in your power suit!!! emoticon

Kay - get tips from expert classmates - great energy there at crossfit! emoticon

Maui - Solar - yippee!!! emoticon Wow 70s and 80s that is hot!

Dan - I've been meaning to tell you how much I enjoyed the big pot of shrimp and grits you brought the other day! emoticon I never imagined someone from Idaho would know how to cook proper grits!

Speaking of weather and shrimp - our spring (brown shrimp) commercial trawling season opened last week - this is nuts!!!! Last year it opened May 27th - that is normal! The Annual Blessing of the Fleet is not until the last Sunday in April! But maybe the 2015 Blessing is still in effect because I'm not sure the fall (white shrimp) season ever "closed". Now we've got 2 waves of arctic air headed this way - will get down into 20s - hope the ocean water is warm enough to protect the little shrimpies! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Happy birthday Choc!!!! Sorry I missed it yesterday! Hope you had a good one!

Well it is snowing this morning. Less than an inch of new stuff so far, but they're still predicting 4 - 5 inches today, so I'm hopeful that we'll be going skiing late this afternoon!

Kelpie - Oh I remember those parent meetings so well! Parents with their heads in the sand who feel that all their "little Johnny" issues are not his fault but the result of the way other kids are influencing him or ,even more irritating, everything is the fault of the teacher. Good luck! BTW, you look great in that outfit!

I set the massage table up by the cabana. No appointment necessary.

Life is good!

Belated Birthday to Choc.....

Wood, glad you're home safely, and the hotel sounded creepy.

Mary, the cake looks yummy, glad there's a virtual slice left for breakfast.

Dan, ther's been some snow on the higher ground, but the resorts are begging for more.

Maui, jacques has solar, so on sunny days we have lotsof hot water. That is how we heat the tub here on the deck, right,

Kay, keep inspiring us! I'm managing 2 sessions of aquagym some days, and that is good for me. Nowhere near your level though. I'm feeling the diffeerence, and others are seeing it.

Joo, how"s the neck?

I'm gong to be power dressing this morning. As I know that there are quite a few old teachers out there, you'll probably undertstand where I am coming from. One little chap, (aged 8 I beoieve) a nuisance in class, has had a couple of punishments....writing lines in English along the lines of "I maust not talk in class and disturb the others" Good for their English skills, and hopefully makes them think. Anyway, mum objected when I told him off a yet another time, and asked for a meeting. Meanwhile on Friday, my last class, he was trying to cheat, changing the answers on his test after I'd corrected it. And I'm seeing the mum today. What bothers me is why the kid felt he needed to cheat, have a perfect paper, especially after his reaction the the lines....lots of tears and I'l get into trouble at home. The same family objected to a boy with learning difficulties in the big brothers class. So can I make the mum think about her attitude? I rather doublt it, but I can try.

so powere dressing, and glad to be feeling better about myself having a few likos less. Which means I can get into some of my older clothes, that I don't usually wear for teacing in promary!

So coffee, cake, and some other indulagance, we can here on the deck....fresh mango juice anyone?

emoticon Choc! Nice of Maui to slip that in...Maybe you can treat yourself to that cake Mary brought to the party,it sure looked good! And deck calories don't exist, so it won't ruin your diet either!

We're having a "deload" week at CrossFit, but still managed to get in a good workout! We got to pick our poison today, work on things we're not good at, so a bunch of us were working on double unders...got some good tips from one of the experts, and I actually got 3 in a row....twice! My goal for this year is 10....I think I may actually get there! emoticon

Solar on the house, nice! With all the sun your getting that should pay off in no time...

Jo, do you need some time on the massage table for the neck?

Dan, are you getting more snow? We seem to have no snow in the forecast...but I sure did enjoy skiing in the sunshine yesterday...

Happy Monday Deckies!

Welcome home Wood and Luv! Sounds like a wonderful trip...(accept the Red Roof in night)...crazy. Did you get a refund? Sheesh. Off to the gym sounds like a plan. Like you say, so easy to slip. I have been eating too much lately...nothing super crazy, just too much comfort eating. It happens.
We rooted for the 'old guy too. Great game. Fun time with the kids.

Dan, Wood and Mary- We had great stars here too. Super clear skies. We walked eh kids to their car and stayed outside to star gaze awhile. Beautiful sky.

Snow...nope...we are predicted to get up to the high 70's today, maybe even hit 80. Nuts! With this prediction, we worked like crazy outside, trimmed all flowering plants, fed and watered. All fruit trees are ready for spring to and will begin to bloom today. Crazy.

Choc- Happy Birthday my friend. This is yet another first for you, first birthday in your new home. I hope you do get outside, hike, enjoy your day and treat yourself...maybe new hiking boots?

Jo- OK...what's on your list this week???

Anyhow, More planning and plotting for my front yard. Soon we will mill up the redwood tree logs laying in my front. We may have to give up the idea of digging up the underground stump/burl. We are quite certain has likely encased the gas line. CRAZY right? What do people, city planners think when trees are planted in poor locations. Anyhow...blah...maybe be best to just leave it there and slowly decay. :( Anyhow we have much to consider. I have another 'expert' coming on Thursday to discuss options.

Did I mention we now have solar? Got installed last week. We figured we could make lemonade from lemons and this seemed like a great option. Especially for summer heat/AC needs. Works great.

OK..Today, to the list!

Become the change you wish to see in the world.

I thought it was a great game! I didn't really care who won, but I was happy to see Manning get his 200th win! Besides I have to root for the old guy!

Yeah, too much eating and drinking for me as well. Off to the gym this morning and try to get a a good start to a healthy week.

Good stars here last night as well. I love sitting in the hot tub and star gazing.!

Yeah, Dan - I live on the North side of the mountain and still have about 6 inches. Looking over at the opposing mountain, it's about 50 % bare.

Looks like we should get more snow tonight. Hope so. I'd like to get some skiing in.

You can do it Choc!!!!! So easy to slip!

What a game by the Broncos!

Way too much food for me tonight! Setting out some healthy snacks in case any of you stop by the deck with the munchies!

It's a lovely starry night I'm heading to a chaise by the pool to star gaze as I go to sleep...I need an early start with exercise tomorrow!

Great to have you back Wood!

Dropping off a cake at the deck! I have an extra! Haha...I ordered 2 cakes for son's birthday - one to take to yesterday's game for the team to eat...well, somehow I missed the memo that the game was cancelled so now I'll take that cake to SB party!

Will be a fun party for me - 2 of my worlds colliding! Hostess is a basketball mom so quite a few basketball families will be there and she was my captain for the last 8 or 10 tennis teams I was on before I "retired" again...so I'll get to see a bunch of teammates I haven't seen much of in the last couple of years!

We'll only stay until halftime so I'll be back on deck for 2nd half!

Have a great day! Go Panthers!

Pura Vida!

Enjoy the sun emoticon Maui! Looks like it's going to be beautiful up here too! Not quite so warm...but I'll take upper 40's for skiing! Looks like the area has most everything open!

Wood, that's a lot of miles! emoticon both in the car and on your feet!

We had dinner at the neighbors last night, which means I had more wine (and bread) than I should have, but I don't think it was too bad....I did end my "no sweets" week successfully, thankfully they were not serving a sweet dessert, just grapes a a little cheese.

I'll brew up a pot of freshly ground Kona coffee, help yourself!

We're home! That's a long LONG drive! Round trip was about 2,300 miles! It was a great trip however, once we got away from the snow covered roads here and onto the interstate we had clear sailing to Florida with almost no traffic since the major cities were pretty much shut down. Had only one spot where they were removing snow from a bridge that things got backed up for about 40 minutes. Once there we spent 4 days with friends in Daytona Beach where we spent our first night sitting around a great campfire with a bunch of their friends. After that first night though it rained and rained! Spent one of the days at Kennedy Space Center. Amazing place! If you've never been there put it on your bucket list! Maui, you and Gary would love the place! Next was the Kumquat Festival! Turned out to be a huge event and lots of fun. If you've never had Kumquat pie you're missing out on a major culinary event!

Finally, Disney for 5 days! Like always, it was great and the weather was perfect! (partly sunny and highs in the lower 80's). My favorite stuff there is Epcot, all the evening firework shows (there's a new "Star Wars" firework show at Hollywood Studies that will knock your socks off (maybe more), and of course, all the roller coasters! Being surrounded by flowers in February is so very cool! Best part? The parks are not crowded in February! Like I said, great time! (Oh, we according to my pedometer we averaged about 11 miles a day!

On the way home we stopped for the night after dark at a Red Roof Inn in South Carolina! I have never NEVER stayed in more of a run down place in my life. Think Bates Motel. Not sure why we stayed. Place gave both of us the creeps. Guy moved into the room next to us after midnight had a huge German Shepherd with him and he had a steady flow of "visitors" all night long. I believe he may have been a "businessman". We got up at 4 AM and decided to get back on the road!

More later. Got to get ready to go to church!

Life is good!

Morning friends,

Kelpie, thank you for the coffee. I love knowing you were here.

Mary- Yay...your son has met another landmark goal. Fun and sad I bet. I loved having the older children depend upon me for transportation. Great chatting time.

Dan- Last night ...I must have dozzed off...sheesh. But this morning...wow a breakfast spread for royalty. That's how to wake up! Real food! Thanks!

Kay- Tired. Rest day. Good idea. I suspect tomorrow the slopes should be less crowded due to the big game. Feels like spring. Crazy. Could be a spectacular view to ski tomorrow. They are predicting 78 for the south bay on Tuesday! What????

OK...I am gong to spend the entire weekend outside if I can. Beautiful Beautiful. Hope we return to winter tho...

Sounds like quite the breakfast feast this morning! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon maybe add a little fruit to the table?

Larry had wanted to go skiing today, but I was very tired last night from a grueling CrossFit, so he offered to go tomorrow instead. Gives me time to hit the grocery store and stock back up, the fridge and cupboards are depleted! We has surprise guests Thursday night, my aunt and uncle from Minnesota came through town on the way to my dad's, so we scrounged up enough to feed them! Really nice visit!

Kelpie thanks for the flask, it may keep me going on the trails!

I'll meet you there Dan! - with a flask full of Williams - one shot, a short soak & I'll be climbing into a hammock to rest up for a busy weekend!

Son turns 17 tomorrow & has Bball game (had one tonight as well)...he would be playing guitar in an afternoon gig at really cool ocean front bar as well but time conflicts with rescheduled Bball game ):

Yippee he survived his restricted license period without a citation or accident so he now has a real drivers license!

Then Super Bowl! We lived in CLT when the team started & are original season ticket holders...we won lottery for SB tickets! But sadly with all that's going on we couldn't make the cross-country journey.. Better view on friend's tv anyway! Go Panthers!

Pura Vida!

I see the hip flask was filled up on the DECK Mauimia, thanks KELPI great idea I'll take it down to the hot tub tonight, I am guessing KAY will be there soaking from her fast down hill ski runs, I haven't heard a train whistle from the DECK yet but when I go hotsprining in Montana I hear the trains whistle several times during the night where I camp, the coffee this morning was really awesome CHOC! This summer I would like to roast some in the new wood fired oven I made this last year, I'll bring some to the DECK and perk it while the pouch is lying next to the old rocker...lanterns are singing along with the crickets ahhh love the friends and warm water on the DECK.

enjoy

Choc- waterproof fit bit! Haha...YES! I have a waterproof-ish phone even. I cannot be trusted with anything else! Technology and I have to be well matched, which means I need to have rugged gear. My hubby teases me till this day, since my first cell phone I dropped into teh pig water trough. My second cell phone, Into the pig pen mud/muck. My 3rd cell phone got wet in teh veggie garden. Henceforth, I get used hand-me downs from the family as they upgrade. First time in years, I now have a new phone. Hope I can eep it safe....lol. So...'I hear you'.!

Kelpie- yes...'in person' real life experience...memorable. period. So, yes please for tonight! Apricot and plum please. ;)

Dan, what'll you have?

Jo-oh yes...together with chocolate...oh my yes.

Kay- Hehe...that's a lot of flights! Join us tonight?

oh Kelp you are funny --yep needed but avoided whilst babysitting the grands ..
I would love the apricot ---hmmm since I am a chocoholic I would be interested in chocolate flavor .. teehee...

Really though I am doing a sugar detox challenge here -- and so blew it today ... went out with a group of gals for my sister's 65th birthday -- and one of the gals made a cake -- will add a picture later .. it was done with butter cream --- every part edible..
talk about off the track..

Kay I only have the fitbit 1 ... I have the spark fitness tracker which is water proof but not track movement in the water -- so disappointing..
I love my stair counter as live in a 3 story (somewhat) home and walk many flights of stairs ... killing the knees softly.. lol..

everyone have a great evening

It's already evening here, so I'll roll out some of Jacques "eau de vie"

I may have said in the past, but there are lots of new people so even if I have, it's worth repeating myself. Here in France you can distill fruit, as long as it grows in your garden! We go by the spriti of the law, as it were, and so one of the flavours we have is apricot, even though Jacques only had one apricot tree. There is a portable still that goes round the various villages, and you pay tax on what you produce....although it can be difficult to check on the exact amount at times.

So there's a choice of apple, plum, pear, apricot, plus varous other flavours, usually based on apple, with added thyme, fir, chilli peppers.....

So, a great help with stress Mary, and Maui (you're the one who has actually tried a couple in real life).
As for the chaps, Dan, Neil and Wood, a hip flask helps you make friends, even if not influence people.
Kay, a hip flask might be useful after the slipping.
And Jo, maybe to be avoided whilst babysitting. Or maybe needed then?
Choc, I wonder if we could make a chocolate flavoured one????
Snow, fancy a wee snifter.

So what I suggest is singing round the camp fire tonight, who's bringing an instrument, and mellowing out with some home made hooch!

Taking a little train ride right now to my little home town in the swamp lands! Smile on my face because I love the sound of the train whistle!

There's been some great discussion here about making ourselves do things we really don't want to do and some great advice!

I have been horrible lately about procrastinating, taking care of absolute necessities but ignoring everything else...& not taking very good care of myself...when friends ask how I lost weight breakfast & walking is the advice I give...haha I never could get one of my buddies to take that advice & it always perplexed me but now that I fell off the wagon I can really understand...sometimes we know what's right for us we just don't do it...time to really make the effort to get back to my "A" game!

I love fruit & veggie smoothies made with grapefruit...I'll whip up s batch & serve them poolside! If you can't enjoy irl you can still enjoy on deck!

Have a great day!

Pura Vida!

I got 127 floors skiing on Tuesday, lots of ups and downs! It was great, snowed for part of it...I wasn't really expecting that! But so pretty. They had opened up Ana's Chute, a double black diamond...I ended up side slipping down most of it, but did finally straighten myself out at the end and got a fun downhill going!

I'll have some coffee this morning, Choc! Thanks for the offer.

Neil, swimming sounds like a relief from the heat! emoticon

Mary, glad the stress didn't have any lasting effect, what a roller coaster! Your son's coach sounds like a character, and a character builder!

Jo, which fitbit do you have? I just got a Charge HR (Not the waterproof one) to replace my One that died when I went snorkeling with it.

Dan, enjoy those groomed trails!

And Kelpie, sorry I missed the libations last night!

Lola... The Fitbit that I bought is a "waterproof" version of the Fitbit HR Charge... A company called "Waterfi" does the waterproofing, and the advantage (even tho it's more expensive than the regular Fitbit Charge HR) is that I can wear it swimming, kayaking, scuba diving etc without worrying about it being ruined by getting wet.... Not sure if it will track swim laps or water aerobics ... Haven't tried that yet... The "stair count" issue is the one drawback to getting the waterproof version though because according to their website they have to disable that function in order to waterproof it (in my case, that function seems to just add a whole bunch of "stair flights climbed" when in fact I didn't climb any, LOL! One day it actually recorded 55 stair flights climbed! ... Not that I'd ever be that ambitious, LOL)... Anyway, all the other functions seem to be working as they should, so I'm happy with the purchase
... It's definitely motivating me to get back out hiking!

And speaking of getting back out, it's time for the pooch and me to head out for our morning walk... Be back later (I'll leave a fresh pot of coffee here on the deck for anyone that needs a morning "caffeine wake up"

My DECK friends have been out hiking and step climbing you must be tired out from the STEPS, I'll light the lanterns down to the hot tub and crawl into the cellar and get some of that old wine out of the oak barrel and bring you all a half coconut shell full to relax with in the hot tub and pick you some tunes on the guitar this evening.

Enjoy

So hot yesterday and I was melting playing tennis. When we got home the thermometer in the living room was showing 37.5 Celsius (100 Fahrenheit). It's supposed to be hotter today, so my exercise this morning was an hour in the pool swimming lengths.

Happy Wednesday afternoon deckies!!!

I'm lucky that I don't suffer physical symptoms from acute stress often but I sure did earlier this week...and the event that caused the stress wasn't by any means serious - not like dealing with loss or serious illness - it was because son's crazy basketball coach got himself into some hot water with the refs last Friday night and it looked like he would be suspended for at least a game and when I emailed him Sunday to wish him luck with his appeal (and tell him to keep himself out of trouble from now on!) he responded that if he lost his appeal the school might fire him...when I awoke Monday the muscles on the left side of my back had become a knotted mess...it hurt to take deep breathes...I had 2 tutoring sessions in the a.m. then time for a quick lunch and walk...then a 3 hour shift at high school welcome desk...I have never found that desk chair uncomfortable but Monday it was like sitting in a torture chamber - hit my back at just the wrong place...I was so happy when son came home Monday night with news that high school league officials disagreed with refs ruling and coach was "innocent" so no suspension or job lost...by Tuesday morning I had only a small amount of residual soreness in back and could breathe freely without pain...good thing because last night's game was 90 minutes away and I didn't get home until after 11...

with coach there to lead the boys (and by lead I mean stand up and scream at them the entire game emoticon ) they beat an undefeated team and are now tied for 1st in their division! This coach is quite a character - in his late forties, 6' 7" Irish Catholic (luck of the Irish saved him from this pickle? emoticon ) from upstate New York with his head completely shaved (he had a thick head of black hair until last spring when he shaved it in honor of a high school friend who was undergoing chemo for breast-cancer - that speaks to the kind of guy he is)...he's just a good person for son to have in his life and I did not want to think of son playing next year without Coach Kelley - that would be very sad for us and for coach - he's a single guy so this team means so much to him - he cares about their play but also their grades, nutrition, social media, all of it...very traditional, stereotypical New York basketball coach...he wears suit and tie to all game and makes his players wear dress shirts and ties for the entire school day on game days!

Anyway, sorry so long, but point of story is it's crazy to me how my body can physically tie itself in knots just because I'm worried about someone - even if that someone is not a relative or very close friend. Luckily when the problem is solved the knot dissolves.

So big sigh of relief here and Kelpie - yes, please Jacques distillations!

Pura Vida and Cheers!
Mary

Jo, my mum can't have grapefruit either, and says there are times she just really really fancies some!

Maui, I regret we didn't get a sophro done when you were here, it can help with sleep. I'll have to try and record one and send it to you.

Whoops I didn't finish this post this morning, and it's bedtime now.

I'll pour a nightcap

Whisky or one of Jacques distillations? You choose!

Morning Deckies!

Had to go get a new phone yesterday...
Old one wouldn't hold a charge & if I tried to use it outdoors in cold weather it would just turn off (not good when I'm out hiking alone and might need to use the phone for an emergency!)

Took my pooch for a walk at a nearby park... Only a mile "loop" around a few ponds, but at least we got a bit of exercise! Hoping to hike some state game areas this morning (areas near my old home that I'm familiar with)...Still haven't "explored" State Land trails near my new home... Waiting for a friend who is familiar with those areas to show me some of the trails.

Recently bought myself a "Fitbit" activity tracker... Gotta start working on getting more "steps" in each day!!! (I've been a "slacker" on that lately)... This tracker also records heart rate, calories, food, sleep etc ... Pretty interesting! (Supposed to also moniter stairs climbed but that function seems to be "messed up" cause it always says I've "climbed" more flights than I actually did!... Oh well, that part isn't really needed for my activities so I'm just ignoring that "glitch"

Anybody get hit with all those storms that went through the last day or so? Everything pretty much missed us (in fact we're having really unusually warm weather for the past week)... Hope everyone is safe from bad weather!

Gotta go get a few chores done before I can head out to hike... Be back later! Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone!

Choc emoticon

Just keep swimming!

Never give up!

No snow so far, but it is cloudy! The prediction is snow showers, not much accumulation, so we are going skiing today, Larry is waxing the skis then will make omelettes from the veggies I chopped up...

As far as getting things done, I think you have to figure out the biggest priority, give that your focus early. If you wait it won't get done, since our willpower is in limited supply and evaporates over the day...at least that's what the books say! And don't overload yourself with a lot of tasks....it has to be doable, or it won't get done!

Morning Deckies!
Groundhog Day here in the U.S.
Shadows anyone??

Kelpie and Jo-
I can just picture Jacques babysitting. I have several friends with grandkids close by and are babysitting. As a team, its not so exhausting, but alone...wow...everyone talks about fatigue. The non stop responsibility. Jo, rest when you can. You'll need a break after 3 days. Hugs from afar.

Kelpie-Yes, my mind is keeping me scattered and awake. I did plenty of tree trimming and weeding yesterday. It was cold and windy. I thought that might help me sleep. Nope. Then, I hate to wake hubby, so I lay and ponder...sheesh.

Kay- Its raining here again! I had no idea...lol. Maybe you'll get a touch more snow.

How to get ourselves to do what we don't want to? Oh, Maui, if only I had the answer! I am such a procrastinator, and have various tasks hanging over me! Flylady's timer can help, I can do it for 15 minutes, and then go onto something else. However recently I haven't even been using that. You are inspiring me at a distance to get my timer out and get onto that list!

And above all, and this goes for all of you, be kind to yourself. What would you advise a friend to do. And if it is rest, then do it!

Stress! Don't we all know about that one! I think we'll be lining up for that massage.

Kay, any skiing yet?

Mary, how are you today?

Neill, your summer activities are such a contrast to our winter ones.

Jo, we had gd overnight, and then Jacques had her for the day. He was tired after. So three days is a lot.

Wood, how's the trip going?

Snow, looking forward to seeing more of you.

Choc, decided on a gym yet?

Anyone I've missed, there's an extra pain au chocolat to make up for it.

Fresh fruit juice anyone?

Have a great day

RG is Royal Gorge, the ski area we have passes to. They closed the main lodge area, a bridge on the way had flooded out! Larry says it was on the news, the folks that live up there in the Serene lakes homes were stuck with the flood, but it sounds like Cal Trans was able to get it under control.

No skiing today, I thought it would be good to give them another day to get the area fixed up, so we're going tomorrow....and that way I got to CrossFit tonight, so I don't have to do another 2 days in a row like I have the past couple of weeks! Give my muscles a chance to recover a bit.

Glad you are getting a winter garden going, Maui! I know you missed it this past summer...

Jo, rest up, sounds like you need it!

Mary, how's that massage feeling? Lowering the stress level?

Kelpie, loved the porridge this morning, we are pretty soggy here too, it does hit the spot!

Mary- Ahhhh...Bread day. Hehe. Hope things settle down with son's coach etc. Stress is rough. ((hugs))

Jo- Yes! I have grown yams, Beauregard variety. Amazing! The do need warm temps, regular water and a long season. Last year it was a 'no go' due to drought. So we will see. But yams are a favorite food of mine. Yum! Right now I am focusing on this cool season veggies I can grow before June. Then, we will see.
Like Kay said, is there any chance you can re-figure how to use your 'hunting stuff'?

Been trimming the last of my fruit trees. They are trying to bud out, my plums will be first.
With all the rain , after the drought, growth explosion happening, 'The race is on'.

Hey all...quick drop by then I've got to get some dinner going...

This time I'm the one in need of a massage table...wish it was because I've been working my muscles but nope it's stress brought on by of all things an ongoing saga involving son's basketball coach...but son just walked in with some good news...maybe my back will loosen up on its own now!

Son home means time to head to the kitchen (where bread day was last Thursday!)

Have a great night everyone!

Happy February Deckies!

Kelpie- fly by's, any visit, is fabulous from you my friend. Thank you for the hot breakfast! Just what I needed. Cold wind here today.
Coffee...helped warm my hands (I forgot my gloves for my morning walk, silly me)
Corrections eh? More and more...ongoing...you know, seems we all must have these aspects of our lives that are seemingly for-evering. I hear you.
I sure hope that cold leaves you ASAP. Darn colds!

What are the tricks?

Deckies...how to we make ourselves do those things we have to do, but are in a spell finding we don't want to?? Ideas?

Jo- Those kids and gkids are sure lucky. I bet you all are.

Neil- hehe...great weekend! A break from the rain, nice. And a botanical garden. You know I'd love that, right?

Mary- Yesterday was bread day, so of course you were on my mind.
Dan you too! Have you used your new starter yet??? Anxious to hear how you fare. What flour are you using to feed?

Kay- Maybe you are off today to ski. Bet its pretty. Windy though??? Windy here, not as bad as late yesterday.
We are having solar installed today. Sunny day.
You said, "they closed RG", what does that mean?
And yes, some iconic restaurants down here. we visited David Kinch. Oh my...talk about a memory making experience. Still basking in the glow.

Yesterday I planted my potatoes. red and yukon gold. Should be yummy. Garlics look fabulous. Already have cilantro pickable. Baby steps. It's starting to feel some recovery.

Choc- LOL...not in the front yard yet. Looks like a war zone. But the herbs out back are happy campers.

OK...Happy Monday!

Great weekend with my boys (My wife was off in Queenstown) We did a few bike rides, the peninsula walk out at Karitane, hung out on the beach, dinner in the botanical gardens, hung out with a few friends and generally took advantage of the fact it wasn't raining for the first time in a week.

No skiing for me this weekend, but I'm going to trudge through the snow (will break in my new goretex hiking shoes) and work for a few hours, so we can maybe go skiing tomorrow or Tuesday (I'm hoping Tuesday, so I can get back to the normal CrossFit routine). They closed RG today, flooding, if you can believe it! I guess it rained up there yesterday...today it's snowing, supposed to snow all day here, and we have 4 inches already! Maybe I should wear my snowshoes to work!

Dan, no soup yet, but I'm thinking about chicken soup, maybe chicken and farro, (since I have some farro), but I have a whole chicken in the crockpot cooking away today, so I'll have a lot of cooked chicken to work with!

Jo, sorry you got all that new gear and nowhere to go with it! Any chance you can find some new hunting partners?

Kelpie, maybe you need some of the chicken soup now? emoticon

Good afternoon from snowy north Idaho, JO - heck ya enjoying life here as well I got got back last night from some Montana Hotsprings!

MARY - MAUI The lady that I work most of the summer for had me help her move out of her new house back into her old house last weekend and cooked me some sourdough bread and flapjacks then gave me some of her Klondick sourdough starter, I always wanted to but have never taken the time to use the sponge before now I am excited to start as soon as I replenish my good flour supply. My ears (eyes) open for any tips!
Four and a half hour dinner marvelous, lucky guy!

CHOC - Salted Carmel Chips...what's your address again! mmmmm My mom gave me a old fluorescent hat the other day so when I would like to hike during hunting season like yourself I'll be seen hopefully.

DesBLOOM - where do you get to hike at close by?

KAY - Are you enjoying the new snow on your skis this weekend? What kinda yummmy soups are you making for this week, I am going to put togeather a barley soup with some left over smoked pork I made, with Okra, peas, green beans, celery, little bit of corn, carrots, homemade salsa.

WOOD - Enjoy
Dan

Work and rain yesterday...good day for CrossFit! I managed to get it done, and a new PR for front squat, 110 lbs...lots of PRs on the board yesterday, I noticed!

It snowed last night, makes the world look so pretty! Maui, I think it's not supposed to be much accumulation, so maybe not such a bad weekend for a ski? I'm not sure about the mountains, but not so good for cross country. Monday is supposed to be a break in the storm. Glad you got out hiking! And treated DH to a nice dinner, you have so many choices over there, iconic restaurants I'd love to try...sounds delightful!

I'm going to put in another plug for the one week at a time thread...post a goal, get some encouragement, encourage your teammates! It's fun!

Happy Friday evening Deckies!

I made it out on a hike! Went to one of my favorite places. Had to get into the hills. I went by myself , but there were many folks out there and I didn't to the back side hills, stayed on the front side where most folks are. The soil was soft of my feet from all the rain, but not too muddy. The air are fresh cool and clean. My eyes got to search out the distances and rework my brain. Just what I needed.

KB-half days, warmer weather and a picnic...wow...good for you. How's the teaching going?

Kay- Yes...weekend storms. Hmmm. We have seen this before. My younger son is headed up for a ski /snowboard weekend. He's gonna have some rough weather I think.
Too bad.
It's nice you can, at times, rework your schedule. Nice.

Last night I took hubby out for dinner. I made the reservation 3 months ago. It was for a bd dinner. Hubbies bd was 9 days earlier, but this way I knew the family activities would be free. Hubby has wanted to eat at this place for 13 years, and we have never made it. Well we did. He was one happy camper. The chef is beyond words. 24 small courses with wine pairings, meal lasted 4.5 hours. Memorable bd for him.

We're supposed to have rain and snow for the next few days...Not sure why we can't have a nice sunny weekend! Maybe next week? I may flex my schedule again, since there is supposed to be a break on Monday (again), so if I can work part of Sunday and take off early on Monday, I may give it a go!

Snow.... Hey good to see you on the Deck! Yup, I'm pretty much all settled in at my new home and looking forward to the warmer weather and all the flower & veggie gardens in my new yard. As for my old home, yup, I have days I miss my neighbors (although the neighbors here are very nice, I miss visiting with the neighbors I knew for over 20 years)... I also REALLY miss being able to just walk out my door to hike the back roads and trails around my old home... here at the new home I have to get in the car and drive to the nearest trails... only a few minutes drive, but I find I don't "get out" as much as I did when I could just walk out the door... Hoping that once I get a chance to explore some of the State Game area trails near here I'll get back to hiking more often

Kelpie... thanks for the coffee! Needed the "wake me up" this morning!

Wood... hope your rainy weather changes to more sunshine for your trip! (I know you and Gloria will have fun, rain or shine!)

Maui... raining there too? Hope all is going well with all your yard work and gardening!

Think I'll do some baking today... homemade granola bars and maybe some cookies (found some "salted caramel baking chips" that I'm going to try instead of regular chocolate chip cookies.... I'll let y'all know how that works out....trying not to think about the calories, LOL)
emoticon emoticon
Have a fantastic Friday everyone! Choc

Just keep swimming!

Never give up!

Coffee anyone? I'm having hot lemon and honey, so you're welcome to that too.

I'm hoping I'll be better enough tomorrow for a walk at the very least.
Jury's still out for aqua tonight.

Neill, after the really cold snap a fortnight ago, it's unseasonably warm again. So things are a bit topsy turvy.

Hope everyobdy gets out and about if that's what they wish.

I'll just stick to the virtual hot tub for the moment,

Hi all, is the sun shower still up and running on the deck? I think I need a good couple of hours in it. It's been raining here now for 5 days straight with temperatures around 14 Celsius (57 Fahrenheit) We're supposed to be in summer!!

Morning!
Snow- Hearts...YES!

Kelpie- sorry about the cold. Darn! Good you are taking care. The fire time last night was just what I needed.

Kay- Hitting the hills! Yes! I am going to do just that. By myself...need some hill time.
It should be gorgeous.

Hello all, with a special mention for Snow..

Yep, hearts and showing our love, great idea!

I didn't go to aqua today, as I have a cold, and thought it really wasn't a sensible thing to do....

So i'm off to make myself a hot toddy, and heading to bed.

In my mind I'll be wrapped in a blankie with my friends round a roaring fire...

Anyone to join me?

The DECK sure is busy!

Since it started getting a lot warm and raining more I am hiding out in some Hotspring over in Montana for a few days until the weather gets colder and SNOWs for more winter fun.

Enjoy

Well I made it thru Double Step class, X Bike, now waiting for Yoga to wind it all down . Gorgeous sunny day in the El Dorado Hills, can see the Snow covered Sierras begging me to visit, to come play. Then rain again on the weekend.... Planning to finally get to the last unpacking of things pushed aside from our move here last June- mostly all clothes, did I mention Xmas and the tree are down?? Red roses on my table, hearts appearing here and there.
My goals now are to get back into some sort of routine that also includes my DH - doing more hikes together, starting with snowshoeing Donner Lake tomorrow.

How are you feeling in your new home and location Choc? Do you have " those days" where you miss the other? Or just sort of an overwhelmed feeling due to the change? I have to fight off worries for the future sometimes.... Wondering sometimes and doubts creep in, lose a nights sleep.... And then it passes and I'm happy again.... Never wanting to look back , no regrets. Funny we both took on that huge challenge in 2015.

My latest thing is joining Wood on Words with Friends... Still getting the hang of it, lots of questions.... Like how do you know when the game is over??!! Lol!! We get some cute side comments in as well... Making me try a bit harder .... wood has this game down for sure!!
Hoping you are a bit warmer in Florida ... You there yet???
Gtg- Yoga starting... Hello to everyone!!!!!!!!
Luv, ***SNOW***

Hearts! Love Love Love!

Snow- I am so happy to have your sweet self here for a visit. You are truly missed. I am sorry you have much on your heart. Sister, we are here, Love you and happier when you are here too.

Kay- Legs...yes yes yes. I hear you...I am not doing anything so impressive...But...I can feel them legs! I walked 4 miles this morning, stretched last night and this morning...and even after walking my hamstrings were talking back..hahaha...yep...winter rains weeding season!

Today is a long long day for me. My older son has a new doc appt again, long long day ahead. Time to keep my stress in check! Anyhow...we will see how this goes and what the new doc says are options. 5 hours of driving too...but beautiful day, music to sing with in the car, and hopefully some good news.
Ok...I'll try and check in when I return, otherwise I'll see you all tomorrow.

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon love the hearts decorating the staircase, Snow! Glad you found your way to the deck!

I got in the running yesterday, I did step-ups instead of box jumps (legs were just a little heavy still!) but it was still a good workout! Lots of wall balls too....

Happy Wednesday!

Helllllllo there Deckies!! It's SNOW here! So great to finally touch bases with you all, I'm up on all your posts, your always in my thoughts.... And I feel as tho I'm sneaking around up in the tree fort watching the pool parties, laughter coming from rides on LIFE, listening to the chatter in the hot tub, and I really just need a little trip over to Ben Frien... To unload some stress, drop off a touch of fear and negativity and shrug off any left over bad feelings so u can be more open and free to live life with the gusto I my heart!

Love❤️❤️❤️ ***SNOW

❤️speaking of. H E A R TS.
I'll be dressing up the staircase with hearts and red tinsel, letters spelling ❤️L O V E❤️ randomly hidden here and there.... Thinking we should all be thinking of the one(s) we love, and showing our LOVE throuought January and all the way to Valentines Day ( and beyond hopefully!!!) tell someone special that you love them❣better yet-- Show Them!! It will make them wear a smile and the joy will spread to others. Doesn't get much better than that!!
It's late or I would write more. Be good, and Wood!! You be safe on those roads, see you on Words...... Nitey my friends.....*

Evening all,

Kelpie, the fruit was perfect! Dreaming of spring here, with all the rain, everything is trying to bud out. CRAZY!
But the fruit is a perfect reminder of what is soon to come!
Yum!

Neil- How'd today go? I see you went swimming! Excellent. I thought of you today while I was out in the garden...I have no currents. But I have garlic growing like crazy. and tonight I picked cilantro for my veggie dinner.

Jo- Tigger eh? Hehe...I usually think of me as Tigger too! How were the grandkids? Hopefully everyone had fun and got done what they needed to get done! When do you go back to doc? I am sorry, I forget where you are in the 'testing'.

Kay- Yes, Kanga is a good fit for you. (And yes, a girl) I think she is the maternal sensible one, organized and patient. You do look after us all quite well here, so this fits. When Kanga first arrived, the others thought she was fierce. But soon found how kind hearted she was. Also fitting. Strong Kay, warm heart.
Skipping burpees sounds just fine to me. How does the running feel??
Glad you got in a ice ski.

Mary- More taxes???? wow...that's been going on a long time, right? How was it outside? I went out and weeded 5 hours straight...lol...I am going to have what I call Weeders legs tomorrow! Whoa...Not in condition for weeding! (Made a lot of progress.)

Well my friends, I am exhausted. Shower time and then my book.
