Phew!!!! Another great week!!!

VBS was a big success, a lot of fun and very very tiring! Even the weather cooperated and I was able to have my games outdoors every night! It's a very cool feeling when each of the groups would come to my station running and shouting enthusiastically! Lots of smiles. Although that being said some of the other adults nicknamed my station as "Blood, Sweat and Tears"! LOL! Mostly sweat. It was a hot week and my games were high energy, which, alas, also resulted in a few tears (quickly overcome) and 1 bloody nose! Little kids are amazing!

As if life isn't already borderline out of control, last week on the way to the wine festival, Glor, out of nowhere, says she's been thinking about us trading in our little hybrid camper for a fifth wheel camper! Seems she's a little concerned about being couped up with me for our long events in such a small space. LOL! We do have Nomad events coming up that will have us on the road for 6 weeks at a time. So anyway, we have spent what time we could find researching and going to see some "smaller" 5th wheels. Not sure where this is going to lead yet.

Maui - I love the fact that your hike was such a success! Welcome to retired life!!! ....and you know how I feel about the people we meet on our trips! Your experience with the young hiker is yet another example of "things to do, places to go, people to meet!" (Don't know if I had that in the right order.)

So, Kay, did the yoga and meditation help the computer issues? Never tried that solution for my frequent computer frustrations!

Choc, Isle Royale here you come! I love your sense of adventure!!! Go get em girl!

Got to go and do some watering! Hot and dry here! Don't want to lose everything!

Life is good!

Maui... That hike sounds AWESOME! I don't think I could have done those elevations! And meeting (and helping) a PCT hiker certainly added to the adventure! There's a young man from our town "doing the PCT" for a charity hike and I've been following his journey on Facebook ... He's posted absolutely beautiful photos ....if you are on Facebook and want to view some of his pics, go to "search" and type in:

Greg's PCT thru hike 2016

Speaking of hikes, I'm starting to "prep" for my solo Isle Royale backpacking trip ... Spending the next week getting all my gear & trail food ready ... Really looking forward to heading out "soon"

Also Going to be dog sitting my sister's 2 big Bernese Mountain dogs for the next 5 days ... (My cats will not be happy about that LOL)

Ok... Past my bed time! Night Night everyone!

Evening Deckies!

Wood- glad you have your computer back. VBS...how fun. What a great rec leader you'd be...you must be feeling OK with that rib. Yep...I know that kind of commitment like VBS takes a ton of time. Lucky kids.

KAy- oh fun! A mom visit...enjoy!

Choc- haha...your saute sounds like mine during summer season...harvest and make summer yumminess.
Wonderful.

Jo- I am like you...Love refrigerator pickles...my pickling cukes are growing like crazy and I have a few jars of pickles already in the fridge. I pick in the AM and there after supper, I look again...and What??? where'd these cukes come from??? haha...that time of year.

Mary- Hey hi there. ;)

I have just returned myself from a fabulous outdoor adventure. Hubby and I took off for a few days of high country hiking. We actually yesterday accomplished a huge hike. Biggest hike of hubby's life. It was not just big due to distance...it was the elevation ...about 800 ft up in 2 miles, then down 1200 in 2 miles over ridiculous steep snow requiring walking sticks to not slide down a 1000ft...then up across the other side of that valley up 1100ft in 2 miles, and then up another 900 in 1 mile. Had lunch by where my mom's ashes lay with those of a good friends' doggie . Beautiful day. Then reverse to get back to car...haha...my hubby was one tired pup up that last huge climb...and it was a slow but happy last mile down. (Down is harder for him) Anyhow...we had beautiful hikes the entire trip, and feel restored and one lucky gal. Challenge met.

Another interesting note...much of this hike was along a section of the PCT. When we got back to the car, there was a young man, a PCT hiker looking for a ride to south lake Tahoe. We gave him a ride. Great stories shared. We drove him straight to a friends' home where a huge gather was there to surprise him and welcome him. Very nice. Several of them will join him for a week or such, as he travels toward Canada. Very nice young man.

Now I must catch up in my garden. Looks like hubby's magical electric fence worked. All tomatoes are safe.
:)

Much gratitude.
Peace to all my Deck friends.
It's good to be back.

Focus on the good in the world...look for the light, kindness, love. I think when we look for it there is more good than bad, but it can be hard to see, since it doesn't seem to focus our attention as quickly.

I love hearing about the growing gardens, harvesting, playing, and general enjoyment of life on deck!

It's my trail commute day, as I look forward to a long weekend. My mom is coming for a visit to see an "art town" event in the local arboretum, they have artists working and showing their work in the outdoors, I can just imagine us all wandering around and finding special treasures...

Finally, home where the WIFI works AND I now have a working computer again! It's been a while since I've had both!!

Been living in a whirlwind again, but loving it! This past weekends wine festival at Watkins Glenn, NY was wonderful! Good drink! Great people watching and wonderful friends! We really only did the festival on Friday night . Satuday we went hiking and did some wine tasting at one of the many wineries in the Finger Lake region! Of course, as always, it was the people we were with that made the weekend special.

This week iwe are volunteers for our church's bible school. Glor runs the crafts and I do the recreation. Sound easy? It takes most of the day to do the prep work. It's a lot of fun though again working with all these volunteers and we got a great bunch of little kids.

....and that brings us to the topic of the mayhem in today's world! It's incredible, depressing and more than a litlle bit scarey. And it's beyond our control BUT we can all do our part in making the world around us a little more pleasant! We need to stay focused on the positive and there is a lot of good out there as well.

Live! Love! Laugh!

Maui... I hear ya on garden harvests making it hard to lose weight, LOL (but it all tastes so yummy!) Besides all the beans, zucchini, squash and peppers I've been getting out of my garden, today I went to a local "you pick" blueberry farm and came home with eight pounds of blueberries (most already in the freezer!) also bought a small jar of blueberry jam (I've never done any canning so buying it already made was my "cheat" for the day, LOL)

Gotta go out and water the garden now that it's cooled down a bit... Catch y'all later....

Happy Sunday!

Mary and Jo, Yes, yes, yes... Kindness...we are each just one person, but oh my goodness we can make a difference.

Mary, bread day. ;) I always think of you on bread day...hehe. Ah...the song...took me back for sure. Early days of playing my guitar, singing... as a teenager. I hope you are having a good good day.

Choc- Tomatoes, peppers, onions, squashes and more...yep...garden explosion time. Our lasts load of plums into the dehydrator happens today. I am sure I have mentioned this in years past...haha...but I find it VERY hard to loose weight in June and July...so much fresh fruit.

OK...time to harvest and process.

Hello wonderful deck friends!

Here is my new reality - before I post a light-hearted message here I turn on CNN to make sure I'm not being flippant while there is another heart-breaking tragedy occurring. Sadly when I just turned on the news this is yet another day of horrific terror.

Kay and Kelpie I thought of y'all yesterday - on an early evening walk I passed a local French club celebrating Bastille day in a small park beside a little lake - French flags flying, boules court, tubs of French wine and Perrier! I didn't get to see the food - the trays were all covered with foil - I bet the dishes were amazing but I doubt they were enjoyed because this was at the same time as the terrorist attack in Nice. I'm sure the news from France travelled quickly to the ex-pats at the celebration.

Maui - loved the birthday song and your poignant words of wisdom! In the words of MLK - "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." and "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." Somehow we all have to work together against all the hate and violence.

Hugs to everyone - Kelpie especially to you!

A belated emoticon Maui! Sorry I missed the festivities...

I've hiked to the top of Lassen Peak a couple of times, once when I was a teenager (seemed like quite the feat to get to the top of a volcano, we even got the "I hiked the volcano" shirts to prove it!) I've done the Brokeoff Mountain trail as well, I think that was a bit harder, better scenery. So it depends on what you're looking for.

I've picked 3 tomatoes (the cherry variety) so far. Hope to get more soon!

I'm definitely ready for a snooze in one of those hammocks! Been a few busy days since I last stopped by the deck.

Tuesday I went "up north" with some friends to do a 2 hour kayak drift down part of the Ausable River ... Super fun, great nature views, crystal clear water!
After kayaking we drove to a nearby beach to do some snorkeling, then to the "Lumberman's Monument" park (a bit of Michigan's history displayed)... And from there we visited some natural springs & waterfalls (you have to go down 300 steps to see the springs... And then of course it's back "UP" those 300 steps! Gasp, huff, puff, gasp!!!)
Later that night & again yesterday we FINALLY got lots of much needed rain! Not too stormy, just the really heavy drenching we needed! Flower beds & all those pine trees I planted got a great soaking!

Also have been busy with my garden...
Lots of zucchini, squash, green beans and peppers to pick & freeze... Had to put netting over the strawberries to "hopefully" keep the birds out since they've been eating the berries faster than I can harvest them! Have lots of green tomatoes but no red ones yet...
Sweet corn is waist high & starting to tassel ... Raspberries & blackberries will be ready soon ....

Tomorrow I might take my kayak out again if weather cooperates... Wood, I think I'll go to that lake that we "yakked" when you and Luv visited me!

Ok... I'm ready for a hammock now! Nite nite everybody!

I enjoyed a great walk at Garden of the Gods in Illinois last weekend! You can read about it on my blog at: http://happytrailshiking.com/home/a-walk-i

In other news, I've gotten 7.5 miles on foot this week toward my goals and am planning a State Park trip for next weekend and hikes on my vacation. Has anyone been to Lassen Volcanic NP? Looking for great hike suggestions.

Make a great day!

Did a bunch of batch cooking this weekend, but neglected to add breakfast to the list, so I've been using the extra quinoa I made, a sprinkle of cinnamon and sugar, a minute or so in the microwave, throw on some fruit, and breakfast is served!

Well, it's about time to get ready for work now, so catch you all later!

ahhh kindness to me --- that is hard... taking time away from family to be quiet --meditate --- and also to spark.. my time... needed indeed.

my favorite pizza toppings -- spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms and just because olives --lol black and green... a drizzle of olive oil and provolone cheese --- the best ..
store bought pizza -- ham mushroom and pineapple ... also good .. not as healthy ..

Kelpie love your waterfalls and the lake swim --- awesome

Wood wow for a cracked rib you are doing awesome ... hope the computer is up and running soon enough for you.

night everyone

Kindness! Of course! Comes pretty naturally to this group of outdoor people! It's what keeps me here on the deck!

Yes, I am still here! The broken rib slowed me down some but didn't handicap me that badly! Friday I walked 5 1/2 miles. Saturday I mowed (walk behind mower). Today I rototilled (cultivated) my garden. I'm doing okay. However, my hard drive crashed on Monday which has certainly slowed me down on my contacts here on the deck. (doing this post from Gloria's computer and she gets nervous every time I use hers. good reasons I might add.) New hard drive arrived today, so I should be back to normal in a day or two.

Life is good!

Adding kindness into the world certainly can't hurt, can it? What a wonderful idea and sentiment.

And cherishing those beautiful moments we share with our families and loved ones. Precious indeed!

I have a couple of ripening tomatoes...I think the rabbit has pretty much done in my onions, still need to work on getting a barrier up to protect them, or maybe just give up for this year, and try to get something in place before I start planting next year! Time is an issue for me...it's hard to fit in everything into a short weekend, and we do love our vacation time to get away!

I feel pretty fortunate though, to be able to buy a grocery cart full of fresh produce, and then be able to use it (I made 5 different dishes this weekend, needed to replenish my freezer stock of homemade lunches!) One of the dishes was for yesterday's French Club potluck, a roasted cauliflower, onion and chickpea with tahini drizzle. I've made it a few times, and it's so good...I also made a SparkPeople recipe yesterday, lentils puttanesca, really simple and quite tasty! This morning I've made a quick coq au vin (really good, Cooking Light recipe) and another lentil dish, this one with spinach and caramelized onions. And I prepped some veggies for mac and cheese muffins....it's supposed to be spinach, but I'm using mushrooms and Swiss chard instead. I think it should be pretty tasty!

Kelpie- I'd love to join you by the falls , rest, meditate, then catch up a bit. Your did set out coffee and fruit...pretty good wake me up...the peaches...my goodness...yum! Thank you!

Ahhh...your swim in the lake with your man...how lovely...in so many ways. The view, your man, the mushrooms and woods...perfect day.
Good news to hear your bother may be 'out of the woods' and healing. Deep breath.

We have little tomatoes turning red all over...get ready...here they come!

Gratitude- Positive- OK...here goes...Here on teh Deck are some of my favorite people on this planet. You never could have told me it'd be this was...but here we are. So, thank you my friends. I also bask in the winder every day of a growing garden, new life of food that nourishes my body and soul. Out side in glorious nature, always a cure.

Yes...acts of kindness...so many options. In this time of of uncertain politics (lets keep that discussion off the Deck). But there is much global healing needed , heal this humanity...
I read an poignant article written by one of my grown up 4Hers, who is a lawyer, public defender. Basically we all need to take more responsibility. Standing by and saying we are not contributing to the problem , is not enough. We must take action steps to contribute to the solution. Doing nothing, is a part of the problem.

We have relationships with family, who are less enlightened, neighbors who continue to exhibit prejudice of some kind. Maybe the kindness thing we can do, is contribute to those relationships, in kindness, and work a little harder to explain the reasons w e believe as we do.
Rather than letting them receive all their information from the news, let us in heartfelt kind was, continue to plant seeds of change.

My kids are coming today for another BBQ. Lucky me. Food and games, chatter and giggles. (2 younger kids and their spouses) hehe...I get to say that.

Kelpie- Thanks for the waterfall time.
Love you all...
Extra hugs

Become the change you wish to see in the world.

Whew, concentate on the good in the world, so easy to say, so hard to do. So much happening, all over the world,

The good....well yesterday I had a lovely day with my man, swam in the lake in the morning, then got enough mushrooms for an omelette, whilst walking the woods and reminded of the majesty of nature, yet so close to the city. A nice lunch, and by coincidence catching up with a nephew. I took a book and relaxed as he fished in the lake. A beautiful sunset.

I also talked with my brother for more than half an hour, the upside of his being stuck in hospital in Brussels. Having been through some scary moments this last week, it looks as if he might be ok.

So this morning? Coffee, of course, and more fruit........

And everybody, let's all try to do at least one act of kindness for someone else.......relatively easy for all of us.....and one act of kindness for ourselves.....Rather more difficult I suspect!

I'll be over near the waterfall, meditating if anyone would like to join me.

Ah...sometimes its good to find that place of peace, kindness...rest.

We are very lucky, to have this place we call the Deck, where we can be reminded of all the good in the world.

Kelpie- Veggies, and fresh fish. Very nice. Lunch here today was garden potatoes, onions, zucchini fresh herbs. Peaches and strawberries...hehe...
I'll give our friend a hug...for sure.
The fruit salad was glorious.

Jo- Thanks. Life is good...we have to all keep our eye upon gratitude, eh? Much to be gratful for.

I do believe we can all make a difference. We do.
Please be kind.
We all have so much...gratitude.

Hugs everyone.

Early morning tub? Coffee and croissants, and a humungous fruit salad!

Too many scary things going on, I'm glad we have peace and quiet here at the deck.

Last day of an "intensive" teaching week. The kids are happy but exhausted. one poor girl was in tears with fatigue yesterday.....I'm not far behind.

Our veggies are starting too. It's so nice to have tomatoes and peppers from the garden. And fish from the lake.

Maui, say hi back when you next see her. One of these days we'll all meet up in person again, on your side of the pond.

Hello to everyone else, I'll catch up soon

Evening Deckies!

Jo- My son was kind of managing stable for a couple months, but the last 2 weeks he is more serious again. His BP has gone back up (180/110) and his sugar is ridiculous, 388, for those who know diabetes. He is on 3 different diabetes meds and its not working. :( His fluids are building up in his legs and around his heart. But his spirits are quite good when we are there...love to visit. And since he is very well read, and there is so much happening globally...there is much to talk about.
This is a good thing.

Mary- Oh my...sounds like a bad corner. Glad everyone was ok...
Well...yourheat wave sounds kinda rough. We are dry here...so that really helps how it feels, even when it's 95 or 100...it's almost tolerable.
120 lbs of potatoes..., that's a lot. I got 60lbs out of my second box and forgot to weigh the first box...but that;s plenty with all teh other veggies we have to eat or preserve. Busy times.
Popsicles sound good. We have peaches right now. I made peach ice cream...kinda more like sorbet...but super yummy. We find it hard not to eat some very night...lol...

Breakfast has been pan fried zucchini disks with rosemary butter. I toast some of my bread, brush with the fry pan butter, spread with fresh ricotta, top with Zucchini. Yum. Peach on the side...add an egg...food for royalty.

Choc-How was the hike??? Great you have a guide buddy! Fabulous! Watering do to drought! you and me both! Goodness...

Kelpie-YAy...glad things are settling. I look forward very much to catching up more! Guess what? I have a surprise visitor today...a buddy you too have met, at your place. Great morning sipping coffee and catching up. :)

Snow- Hi! My goodness, life is ridiculously busy ...we have skunks in our yard!!!! Ack! Have you bee able to get out with your hike buddy?

OK ...dishes and shower are calling...super dirty girl today. Fed teh garden with fish emulsion...whooo ...stinky...but a good thing. I did have to scrub my legs and feet before I came inside...But...now I need to do a better job.

see you later in the hot tub...after I clean up!

Happy July everyone! I've been lurking with my phone but have been avoiding the computer - seems like I'm not the only one!

Maui - glad they caught that bad guy! Wild stuff! We had a wild afternoon in my 'hood a couple of weeks ago

A woman in a $100,000 BMW was texting and missed the curve across the street from our house, taking out a power pole...this same thing happening in late Feb when a DUI teenager hit the pole at 5 am one Sunday morning...when this happens it knocks out power to the entire neighborhood (~400 homes) and traps us (because we're a peninsular there is only one road in)...it took about an hour for the car to burn out (FD wouldn't put water on it because of power lines) then another 3 hours to get power back...thankfully no one was injured this time or in February! Three 14 year-old boys on bicycles were almost hit as they rode on the path where I start so many of my walks (the car's rear tire is on that path in the photo) I think the woman took a wrong exit off a nearby traffic circle and didn't even realize she was on a road with a 25mph speed limit...the id she gave police was a passport with a Texas address but she said she just moved from D.C. and she kept wanting to go to her car and get some legal files out of her trunk as we were watching the flames and listening to her tires exploding! - weird stuff indeed...

Maui I have gleaned a couple of times in the last few weeks - 2 other women and I had a nice harvest of 600 pounds of cabbage and potatoes once but the next time out most potatoes rotten so 8 of us only managed 120 pounds - a shame. My garden is producing but not like yours! Great that you're enjoying interesting talks with your son!

Choc - great to hear you're enjoying you new surrondings! Kay - great camping trip! Kat - exciting trip upcoming - yay! Jo - it's a good thing we had you on deck or the turtles would have taken over with so many deckies missing! Wood - another broken rib - that stinks but glad it wasn't worse! Kelpie - hope you get back soon - your breakfasts are always such a treat!

Dog days of summer here as well...humidity is ridiculous...dew point is 80 degrees so even when temp is below 90 it feels like 106...even early morning walks are not pleasant because of the instant condensation when I step out of the door! Haha...the readers of Travel + Leisure who just declared us the best city in the world must not have visited in July or August!!!

At least we are getting t-storms pretty regularly in the afternoons so I shouldn't complain! The thunder upsets little blind Harry but he becomes a ferocious protector of the family and barks his head off when he hears fireworks and sirens! emoticon

See you in the hot tub - after I take a dip in the crick!

Pura vida!
Mary

Evening Deckies!

My goodness...I am behind...again...how did life get so busy?

OK...all is well here, no broken bones! emoticon

Wood- Oh my goodness...please heal fast and well! Hope this doesn't get in the way of you getting out to exercise too too much...but be smart! There are more adventures to be had...so take good care.

Choc-Jo- wow...drought finding you two as well! Honest.I hear you! And some have too much water...sheesh...

Kay- glad you were able to get away a bit...summer seems in full swing here...I bet all the snow is gone, eh?
Your trip sounds grand...flush toilets and showers! woohoo! Good to hear Larry is still doing PT. Gotta stay on that stuff.

Mary- How are you??? How is your garden growing? You still going to the farm to volunteer?
My garden is growing like CRAZY! I am having to water too Choc...such is life out here.
Tomatoes are starting to turn red...
Currently harvesting plums still, 2 kinds of peaches, lettuces, chard, green beans, walla walla onions, green onions, leeks, strawberries, zucchini, patty pan squash,herbs...coming...tomatoes, figs, watermelon, cantelope, cukes, yep...happy times...lots of work. Currently have a skunk in a cage I was trying to get a coon...(Haven't figured out what to do. ), hubby finishing an amazing electric fence around the tomatoes. haha...busy! My Borgese tomatoes are 7ft tall...a wall of tomatoes...hahaha...
http://www.seedsavers.org/principe-borgh
ese-organic-tomato

On July 4th...we had a huge morning adventure here, I awoke to a noise, went outside, followed by discovering there was a HUGE police event happening...on my street, in my backyard, neighbors back yards, gate and fences being kicked in, dog teams...multiple cities' police special forces, Yep...they were hunting an armed guy , who I heard over the back fence while feeding my cat, saw hurry down my driveway and across in front of my house, all before discovering there were police. I went out front and saw 7 police cars, 17-20 police are with weapons out and an officer shouting "Mame, go back inside and lock your doors and windows". 3 minutes later they were at my door, and with automatic weapons out, ran through my house to the back yard, searched sheds, looking for this guy. They asked my hubby for a ladder to get on the roof. I then looked up the the back behind my shed, the garage behind my back fence and there was an officer up there with an automatic weapon swooping about, pointing his weapon in all directions...looking for the perpetrator. Police continued to run about all over the 8 neighboring home and the 2 streets on either side...2 hours later the dogs flushed out the guy, grabbed/bit him by the armpit and dragged him out. (Across the street)
We have photos of more than 30 cops in front of my house, needless to say...crazy day!
a 4th to remember.
We have no idea what he did...still waiting for reports.

Headed off to see my son who is sick...he has had a bad week. Life is as it is...but we had a GREAT visit. Yesterday, with all the politics to talk about...he had much to say.
He may not have a body that is cooperating, but his mind is sharp.
I am focusing on enjoying every visit...every moment.

Hey...I will try and get here more often...its just been ...well you know.
Time for the hot tub! I am going to relax a bit.

Wood- are you allowed hot tub time??

Wood... Yikes, OUCH!!! Sorry about your broken rib...sometimes our adventures do seem to turn into "misadventures" ...

Hot hot hot here,... Almost no rain all last month, everything turning brown, burn bans in effect... Have had to water my garden and the 20 pines I planted almost every day... We do have a "chance" for rain today through Friday so keeping fingers crossed for that (in the mean time, I need to go water everything right now, so I'll catch up with y'all later)

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Well, we were only 3 nights without internet...just got back from a quick long weekend getaway. We really lucked out with the camping too, first night the campground (called Bootleg in the Walker River canyon) was at least half empty, and we had our pick of nice spots, plus flush toilets, and only 11$ a night! Next 2 nights we stayed at Silver Lake, also not full, much to our delight, more flush toilets, and also showers! Gotta love that, especially after a couple of dusty hiking trails! It's physical therapy for Larry, and lots of nice views for me!

Wood, sorry to hear about your rib, hope it heals as well as all those others! emoticon emoticon

Cat, enjoy your European vacation! Sounds like fun! I put my mint in tabbouleh and also tzatziki in some recipes....or I just dry it and make mint tea.

Choc, hope the menagerie made it through the noise on the fourth OK! We never heard any fireworks, but where we were I think they were banned....there is enough fire without adding any more to the mix in the Sierra.

Jo, sorry it was so quiet in here....it does get that way sometimes, but this might have been a record! Anyway, I'm kind of happy it didn't take me too long to catch up on the posts!

Hmmmm! Yes, sort of like a ghost town around here at the moment. I went almost totally tech free this past week in Canada: no cell phone; no internet anything; no TV and I've got to tell you, it felt good to me. Sort of a different kind of freedom. Maybe that's whats going on around here. If so, that's okay too.

Canada was great! Lot's of great weather. Lots of good fishing. Lots of wildlife. Lots of boating and kayaking. Just the right amount of interaction with great people. Just the way a trip should be.

Went kayaking on Sunday with my older son and family on a new section of stream (not my stream) that we never floated before. Beautiful area with just the right amount of fast water. However, I had a freak kayaking mishap in a set of rapids: too much talking, too little observation of what was in front of me and too little common sense. I led the way, with my son right behind me. Things got messy! I got tangled up with some big rocks in a fast chute, turned the kayak over. Dane was right behind me and capsized as well, torpedoing his kayak into my back as I was pinned against the rocks. Ouch! Another broken rib! Had to kayak another 2 miles with a broken rib to where we could take out. Got to the hospital a couple of hours later. Waited 4 hours in the emergency room to have what I already knew: another broken rib! Good news was that the break was just north of the liver. Could have been a lot worse. Doctors made fun of all the already healed breaks that showed up on the x-rays. Evidence of an active life!

So taking it easy for a few days.

Hope the rest of you are doing well.

Life is good!

Hi Trailwalker! Yup it sure is quiet on the deck... Hopefully a Sure sign that everyone is out having adventures on this holiday weekend!

I've been out kayaking for the last three days ... Some friends have been showing me some local lakes near my new home (most of the lakes are only a 10-15 min drive from home! Liking that!) Same friends are also showing me some of the nearby hiking trails (these lakes and trails are mostly on "state lands" open to hiking, fishing, boating, etc ... And just a short drive away! Gotta love THAT! )

Also taking care of my sister's two HUGE Bernese Mountain dogs while she's away for the weekend... "Critter Count" at my house right now is 2 huge dogs, 1 blind dog and 2 cats that are not pleased with the new visitors at all and have been hiding for the past 3 days!... And just to add to the "fun" the 2 Bernese dogs are afraid of all the 4th of July fireworks and I've had to leave the TV playing at night to try to "hide" the sounds of the fireworks) definitely has cut back on MY "sleep quality" (or lack of !!!! )

Anyway, hope everyone is having a safe, happy and adventurous holiday weekend!

Cat-
Fresh herbs...the best right?

OK...Mint- add to fresh strawberry salad...OMG...yummy.

Chocolate mint, combine with apricots. They are in season right now...super yummy together atop some ice cream...hehe.

Your upcoming travels sounds fantastic. I'd be excited too!

I just picked, washed and cut about 100 Satsuma plums to load into my dehydrator...super yumminess to come from that!

ITS HOT!!!!!
Bad air too...

Crick time. Rope swing...I am setting up the ice chest in the cool water, fresh berries and wine coolers all ready. That's where you'll find me. ;)

Good morning, deckies! I'm loving all this talk of garden produce! I don't have an actual garden, but I do grow a bunch of herbs: rosemary, thyme, cilantro. My favorites, though, are my mint and chocolate mint. I don't even know what to do with them except eat them! I just come out on my patio and pull a leaf every now and then, lol. I also planted some garlic from one I bought from the store that just started sprouting in my fridge. It seems to be doing pretty well also!

So the BF has officially landed in London, as of 6 a.m. PST. He plans to visit Ireland and Scotland before classes start on Monday, then will have a super intense study schedule through all of July. I fly out the 29th and arrive in London just after his last final. From there, we've got a week and a half to travel all over Europe! We plan to hit France, Italy, and Amsterdam (and I plan to make him go back to Ireland with me). The countdown has begun and I'm super excited!!!

Maui... Garden is doing great in spite of our dry spell .... Haven't had rain for several weeks now so I have to water the garden & all those (20) pine trees I planted in the spring every day (luckily I have a well, and so far we don't have any water restrictions here... But I try to water "just enough" and do it after the sun goes down so it soaks in and doesn't all just evaporate away)... The fence is working so far with the rabbits, but if any deer wander by I'm betting they wouldn't hesitate at all to hop over only 3 foot high fence and chow down on my sweet corn! ... So far though there haven't been many deer, unlike the herds that used to come through my yard every day at my old house! (I do miss watching the fawns like I used to)

At my sister's house right now, waiting for the "Invisable Fence" guy to show up for training session #2 for sis's new Bernese Mt dog 🐶

Gotta go... Will try to stop later

Just keep swimming!

Never give up!

Kay- I go nuts for nuts too sometimes. I keep a stash of eery nut known, in my freezer

Fines...yes! And I let my entire front yard die! And we basically never shower. (Hose off out back...lol)No back lawn. I use maybe 20% from before and still will get fined.
Its all crazy since only a VERY few people in the state are even regulated. Stupid.

OK,,sorry...ranted again.
But I will continue to to grow my food...cause its the right thing for me.

Chard, garlic and caramelized walla walla onions over pasta with the last of teh apricots with apricot ice cream for lunch...lol

Yep...I am spoiled.
