Sigh! Smile! Now even a bigger smile!
New mantra - "Deckies are good!"

Snow - Love it when you make me blush!

Choc and Kay - Thanks for your input! You guys are great! (I may have told you that once or twice before.)

Off to my Mom's again today. My brother and SIL will be there for a few days. Coming in from NC so we'll pay a visit and party together a bit.

Have a great weekend everyone1

Now I've got to go and think about "rubbing off" on Snow awhile! emoticon . Not sure what to say on that matter.

I'm joining the "life is good" proponents on deck, I think there will always be good things and bad things that happen to all of us, and it is easier to handle both when shared with others, either a hand to high five emoticon or a shoulder to cry on... There is always someone who has it better and someone who is worse off, so we do need to learn to appreciate what we have, and be able to share that in good times and bad. emoticon In any case, we may not want to hear "life is good" when we are at our worst, but it probably does get through, so I'd say keep on putting it out there. And sometimes just listen and be there.

I have somehow developed a migraine at work, guess I was thinking too hard today! I'm hoping it doesn't last long...I'll be over there by the crick, lying in my hammock and thinking good thoughts...

This morning Im getting out the cyber-chain saw and cutting right through any of that "stuff" holding me down - the kinds of things Wood mentioned, even tho Im feeling like dancing the "Life is good" dance! I too like to spread the joy, the wonder, the fascination of life and positive thinking, even tho EVERYTHING isn't maybe perfect in my life (thinking about my son and his pain issues for instance) But you know, you can't fix everything... and in due time, I know my prayers and hopeful attitude will prevail. That is how I think. I hope it can rub off on others too, I know Wood sure "rubs off" on me!! You are a gentle person with a big heart, I feel the same about being too sunny, but I hope the overflow catches on to someone who is out there needing a boost. Support isn't always "in your face".... but do stop to smell those flowers I just planted on our deck.... Just sayin" .... Have the best day possible everyone!!

Wood... My thoughts are, when things get "tough" it's even more important to look for the "life is good" moments, experiences, and examples, because that's sometimes the only thing that helps get us through whatever is happening at the moment... Always need to remember that there's sunshine and rainbows after life's storms! (Those life is good reminders, along with great friends like you are very much needed! Keep em coming! .... And thank you for being part of the sunshine and rainbows in my life!!!)

Good morning OP!

Ever have one of those days where you seem to get a little deeper into thought than you mean to? I certainly do and sometimes I simply wish I just wouldn't do that. It takes away some of the warmth and sunshine of my world. Well yesterday was one of those days. Now understand that yesterday was a great day. My morning work cutting up firewood went without hitch (not always the case), had a great run/walk, and I got to enjoy working in my woodshop for much of the remainder of the day. On top of that I spent some fun time with one of my distant friends. I would call that a really good day! BUT somehow (maybe because of my good day) first of all, I got to thinking of my "Life is good" mantra. It seems that a lot of my friends are having a tough go of things right now; health issues, financial issues, emotional issues, and family issues. Got to thinking that no matter how much sunshine I try to put out there, Life is not always good. Sometimes it's damn hard. Made me think; have to wander if for these friends, do they want to hear about "Life is good" or is it just rubbing it in their face? I certainly hope not, but I know from my own experiences that when life is grey sometimes its very difficult to let any light in.

....sometimes it's also extremely hard of express precisely how one feels through on-line posts and texts. I guess this is one of those times.

Time to move on. The sun is indeed shining here, my birdfeeders are active and alive, and most important of all, I know that my friends are people who can't be held down and do end up seeking out the sunshine.

Wow! This may have been my the most unclear post I've ever put out there!

Live! Love! Laugh!

Well Snow, you never know. You just may decide that you need to get out there and try something new and you might think, "hmmmm, Wood always talked about how much he liked cutting wood. Maybe I should give it a try." And then you find that you liked it so much that you get DH to move to Pennsylvania and buy a place back in the woods where you can do the back to basics and play with a chainsaw almosts every day!!!! emoticon coul happen. Just sayin'.

Kay - I can't grow tulips because the squirrels love them but I hav hundreds of daffodils! Apparently they taste bad.

Star gazing anyone?

Sure WOOD toast all week long on the DECK I even set up a Easter tree covered with emoticon emoticon emoticon Easter eggs not only in our wall tent @ Redwood but also here on the DECK.
I even found an old bottle on a 100+ year rail spur out in the WOODS yesterday washed it all up and filled it with your favorite brandy for the DECK party tonight.

Enjoy

Hello, Deckies! We had sleet and hail yesterday so I was amazed any of our daffodils survived....they really took a pounding. But quite a few bounced back, and are brightening up our yard again. Cloud cover prevented viewing the lunar eclipse, which was a big disappointment. There are supposed to be a couple this year, so maybe I'll get another chance. Sorry I missed out on the dancing though...sounds like a blast.

During my walk home yesterday through the arboretum I was treated to a giant bloom of daffodils, they have mass plantings all over, and they are in full bloom (or were on Tuesday!) now, and it is quite a sight to behold. Since the squirrels here have kept me from wanting to plant any more bulbs, I'm happy to enjoy those! I don't get it either, that park is FULL of squirrels....maybe they don't like daffodils? If not, there may be hope yet for my yard! emoticon

Maui, enjoy your visit with your son, his fiancee is still living with you? Congrats to Leilani on another half! She is quite the runner now, isn't she? emoticon

Wood, sounds like you had a great pre-Easter celebration with your family, 300 eggs? emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon I bet the Easter bunny gets really pooped out at your place! Enjoy your "me time" with your chainsaw!

emoticon Hope the flower planting gets done there, Snow! I aim to get some plants for the yard at some point, I think it may still be a bit cool here at night to do too much right at the moment, but soon! Nice that you have hired someone to do the weeding! You must have a pretty yard...I imagine a lush green with lots of flowers and hummingbirds flitting from bush to bush... emoticon

emoticon They don't have a honey bee icon- darn it!! Yes, sometimes I do feel like I am darting around like on tho!! I bought a bunch of flowers yesterday to plant in the empty spots and in the planter boxes around the yard, I really don't have the time to do it, but Im making the time, I think Ive hired Eric's friend to help with the last of the weeding- side yard . I have to save my hands for hairdressing, so that will be a nice treat... and I will pay him for it so we both win that one.

emoticon Im going out to "enjoy my chainsaws"......I have to laugh at that one, I doubt that is a phrase I will ever use in my lifetime Wood!!

emoticon Maui -- ENJOY your Easter week with the family, Im glad you are feeling accomplished and you don't sound overwhelmed- that is a good thing!! Im thinking a lot about you these days!! Our boys sometimes drain us so, but its up to us to recover from their drain on us, and rely on the love in our hearts that gives us that DRIVE to fight for them and their health issues. We are good moms Maui, sometimes I know we both wonder if we are good enough.

emoticon Kay, well Im sure you might have a few tan lines yourself these days, and you "cut a rug" pretty fierce yourself woman!!!

emoticon Hi Choc.... are you getting another cold wave too? Gosh I cannot believe my eyes when I hear about more cold storms in the eastern US... Im so done with the cold!! Hope the daffodils are rising tall!

emoticon OK I have to get showed up, hello to Dan, Brenda, and where is K-PO? Hello to all Ive missed.... rush time to get to work.... Zumba and a spin class at the end of the day,,,,

Oh wow! Talk about missing all the action!!!! I especially hate it when I miss a party! Especially sorry to miss out on the dancing! I know a couple of you really have the moves!

Dan - Happy birthday! Sounds like it was a good one! Can I still toast to it? Coffee this morning, but something a little more festive this evening!

Man did our weather fall apart yesterday! Back to winter here this morning! Sunday we were enjoying mid 80's, Monday mid 70's and then yesterday with tons of rain, wind and a return to the cold! Back into the 20's this morning! (but at least the sun is back).

Sunday was a great day! Warm, sunshine, and family! Perfect combination. This years egghunt saw 300 plastic eggs spread filled with goodies spread out over about an acre of search area. You should have seen all my daffodils in full bloom! (they got destroyed in yesterdays downpour!)

Had a good visit with Mom and took her home on Monday. I think I get my love for activity from her. In her 80's she still helps me clean up my mountainside flower beds and was even stacking wood in my woodshed. I enjoy having her around (for a week or so) but I've got to tell you that it feels good being back to just the 2 of us here.

Got to get back on my exercise routine! I need it!

Choc - Sounds like you're getting your place all spruced up! you go girl!

and Maui - first of all, I thank you as well, and then secondly, enjoy the chaos!! Hope it all goes well!

Snow - So sorry I missed the dancing! Maybe later?

Kay - Sounds like you're as busy as ever! Of course, you will always be that way. We totally missed the lunar show here. Weather didn't cooperate!

Well, Luv is off material shopping with her quilting buddies today. Think I'll get out and enjoy my chainsaws!

Have a great day everyone!

Life is good!

Party on, eh? hehe...you Deckies sure know how to play...very nice!

Dan- you are so right...the crick is perfect...soothes the feet and soul. I think I could listen forever to the babbling water.

Kay- yep...not sure how I could have survived the schedule so overlapped. Didn't have it in me...I kinda cannot believe she 'heard' me. Still feels hard, since so much is uncertain.
Kids arrive tonight, their flight got delayed a bit. But, I don't have to drive 9hours tomorrow...so this is GREAT!
Bright side, bright side...
Leilani is in the shower, just home from the after her half marathon on Sunday...and she's going to the airport to fetch her brother and fiancee.
I was able to get plenty done today, so I am ready.

Kay- thanks. Yes...the garden ...she is a growin.

Snow- You are like a spring honey bee! BUSY! You know they are so happy, flitting about...hurrying, but able to stop and smell the roses.

Wood- you hiding with a private Brady stash???

Kay- May I have a glass as well?? A little glass...kinda tired...I might have to swing in the hammock while you all dance. Dan- can you give me a push??

Oh, yeah, that creek water feels like a great foot massage! Nice planning with the hammock placement so we could watch the moon and soothe our tootsies!

Maui, nice that you were able to postpone the Dr, and enjoy the visit with your son without that hanging over you! And great, 7 greens salad from the garden? Does that sounds yummy!

Snow, you do know how to bust a move! Must be all that zumba action you get! emoticon

Dan, can I top off your glass? emoticon

Let the emoticon continue!

Swing away, Maui! Hope it helps you sleep better tonight, you have a lot weighing on your shoulders, so I can see how that would be stressful and interrupt your sleep. emoticon

Hey there deckies!

Oh goodness...I sure hope we having 2 parties for you Dan! I would just hate to have missed your special day, hammocks, froggies, spiked lemonade and alllllllllll. sheesh...

So tonight...again? yes, yes yes!

So I am catching up late here...been trying to check many things off my list the last couple weeks myself...this week we have almost all the kiddos back in town again...haha...and with all the spring activities, been plenty to do.

Brenda- windows ...yes! it'll feel GREAT!

Choc- you are really heading down your list, good for you. (Wish teh weather was more cooperative...sheesh)

Kay- well?? how do you feeeeeeeeeel?

Wood- hey...how was the hunt?

C-D- tilling done? Sounds like you are marching down your list too...gardens are so therapeutic, healthy for you and the planet, setting an example for your community. Just this if everyone gardened!

Me, perking along. My mind is keeping me awake at night a bit. I am trying desperately not to worry about my older son, but its impossible for me. In the middle of company this week I have to get him to new doc appointments...you know...'make the magic' happen...just hard stuff.I don't mind hard work...don't get me wrong. This is working hard with no authority, no power over plans or decisions, but tons of responsibility. Sheesh. Finding a way through the muck, not easy. Anyhow...
On the bright side, I emptied and sorted my garage freezer this weekend, much accomplished outside and inside, veggie garden really on its way. Happiness.

Now I think a little creek time is just what I need...rope swing up yet???

Choc-You just reminded me I need to wash my windows. My husband has been in the house probably 6-7 years and I don't think they've been washed since he moved in...

Dan-It was delicious, but the lines were insane. Still, worthwhile!

C-Thanks! I was impressed I actually finished something too.

Kay-I hope you're not too sore today.

It was a stunningly beautiful weekend here and another wonderful day today before it gets back to normal rainy/cooler Spring weather. I plan to enjoy it once I get done with work!

emoticon Dan! is the party tonight or tomorrow night? Or both!? emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon I vote both...

I was busy yesterday, did my taxes, cleaned up the yard and the kitchen...then pretty much rested the rest of the day, as I was pooped! But checking things off my to do list was nice, and I can sleep easier with the taxes out of the way!

The winds have picked up around here....not my favorite, but they did seem to blow the clouds away.

C-Done, thanks for the Lynchburg lemonade!

Re-tilling the front garden strip today by hand as 7 inch rain "settled" things back a bit. Must get pea starts into the ground before they grow out the windows in my kitchen. Then a planned run of about 3 miles before it gets too hot. Lovin this sunshine!

I am just imaging all those great long hikes, Snow!

So impressed that we have an author among this group who actually has the endurance to get a project done and published. I am fairly green with envy!

Does a beat up old leaking washtub qualify as a hot tub? I am getting pretty anxious to spend some time chillin' on our deck with a Lynchberg lemonade in a mason jar. Everybody welcome. May get a little crowded......

Someone put some clouds in my nice blue sky....not sure where those came from! I was really enjoying the sunshine too... emoticon But it's not cold, so I really can't complain.

Day 2 of my new program today, it's very complicated, but fun! I'm sure I'll be more sore tomorrow....Oh I was feeling day one today....

My outdoor activity for today consisted of three hours of cleaning window screens and washing windows (the downside of having a sunroom with windows on three sides equals many many many windows to wash!!!) still have about eight or 10 windows and a couple door walls to wash but have to wait until the sun moves around to the other side of the house to avoid streaks.... Have a feeling my arms are going to be very very sore by tomorrow!!!!

We're supposed to have one more day of actual nice warm spring weather in the mid 60s and lots of sunshine and then we have two days of rain and storms predicted... Then it's supposed to drop back down to the 40s during the day and low 20s at night for next week!!! Beginning to wonder if Spring will ever get here "for keeps"

Choc-those don't sound like "light" chores, hehe, but productive indeed!

Snow-the hike sounds wonderful.. Spring has sprung here and I am loving it!

Maui-Thanks love-it's never too late to start again!

Windows are open-last night I walked outside barefoot while cooking fish on the grill, what a superb night. Tonight I'm heading closer to Wood's neck of the woods for an event called "Foodstruck". It's basically a street lined entirely with food trucks. I've been behaving MIGHTILY good this week so I can enjoy tonight. I just hope the rain holds off.

Have a great weekend!

Just popping in for a minute (but hope to be back later) ... So far today has been a "light" chore day compared to the past few days... Did some laundry, Emptied, cleaned and refilled my hot tub, repaired a few "gutter guards" that had worked loose during the winter, climbed up on the garage roof to saw off several big pine branches that were rubbing on the shingles, touched up some worn out painted areas on my house siding, and did a quick drive to the pet store for dog food for my 2 spoiled pooches, LOL (quick= a 20 mile round trip) haven't even started cleaning out the "winter-worn" flower beds... Want to make sure we're not due for anymore major "frosty mornings" before I uncover the new little sprouts and buds!

I think that's it for today... All these chores over the past week or so have definitely tired me out, LOL... Just might take the rest of the afternoon off! I'm thinking maybe an "Outdoor People" gathering around the campfire might be fun tonight... I'll bring the fixings for S'Mores!!!!!

Morning all!

Kay- No surgery just yet, but it will happen for sure. We have terrible insurance right now, (contract work, Cobra from last full time job, still less than CA Care...stll very costly for us) and are hoping for a change soon...so...after. Yes, much progress has been made with cataract surgery. Life. I am glad to have understanding why it's so hard to see or why my eyes fatigue so quickly...etc. No worries...lol.
Glad the knee is not 'talking'. I think with all you do to keep at this, your fitness supports your setbacks. Good for you!

Brenda- Of course my friend, you are welcome, loved and our deck is a safe place here when ever you need us. :) Nice to have in this modern world eh? A reliable place. Sorry about the steroids too...sheesh. Gotta do what ya gotta do.
And you are starting to exercise and food track again. This is key. Step by step. Look at Leilani...one day it just worked. Good thing to keep picking yourself up and try again. Dog walking...good idea. Very nice. It's spring...new life...new page...Life is Good.

Me- Life is Good.
Here is a link to a Beatles accapella-ish recording from Abbey Road. Got it from Manders, some of you remember her. Great coffee music while I visit the deck. :) Enjoy

Choc - Your energy is inspiring. I "hired" some help (a friend's children) so I'm waiting to touch the yard. I think I'll have them rake and help spread some mulch. The yard is a disaster from the nasty winter storms and have a tree taken down this Winter. The frogs sound like a nice sign of Spring!

Maui-Thanks for the warm welcome. Hubs and I are trying to walk the dog every night together. It's good even if it's just a short one. Starting somewhere, right? Sorry to read about the cataracts :( But glad to hear your scar has stopped growing. I just had some steroid shots for a nasty keloid I had from a mole removal. Now getting steroid shots for another unfortunate skin condition-no fun!

Kay-If you can continue to do squats/lunges/etc with that knee problem I am thoroughly impressed! The rest of your body must be in great shape to keep you stable and active, keep it up. Thanks for the encouragement-I need to start again somewhere.

I spent most of the winter hibernating in our attic finishing my book-it's finally printed and I've been able to relax quite a bit. It's a nice change! I promised myself no new projects for a year, but it's hard not eyeing up things I love. I already have my 2015 project lined up (I want to get involved in how to acquire the proper land use/development for extending a rail trail from the river rail trail to an existing rail trail near a major highway) but I just put the feelers out and told him we will meet in the new year to discuss. ANYWAYS. Time to get back to work, have a wonderful day everyone!

Knock wood, no pain in the knee...and my wrist seems to be better too. Now today it was just my neuroma in my foot pinging my a couple of times...but nothing serious and it didn't hang around for long. So, hopefully I can get through this new program without any pain/injuries! Started round 1, day 1 today, I'm "training to be MORE awesome!" Which means more weights, more push-ups, pull-ups, deadlifts, squats, lunges....love it!

Brenda! Great to see you back on the deck! And starting anew, sorry you lost the ground you had made, but you gotta start somewhere, so glad it's here!

Slimmer, moving to the right, and low blood sugars too, you must be doing something right! Enjoy the hammock and sounds of nature.

Dan, thanks for setting up those hammocks by the crick! Loving the sounds of the frogs that lull us to sleep while we stargaze....

Choc, what a list of chores! Sounds like someone needs a soak in the tub (and maybe a brandy?) emoticon

Maui, great news from you doctor about the scar, sorry about the cataracts, will you have them removed? They have that surgery down pretty well now.

OK, going to just lay in this hammock and doze...

Evening all!

Choc- wow...that's one great list of accomplishments for one day! And spring flowers trying to peak out!!!! Oh yes! Great day you!

Slimmer- Oh yes! Well done you! This is amazing! You go girl! I know...your goal is in sight! So happy for you. I believe in you. emoticon So glad to have you here. :) Hugs!

Brenda- It's a new day indeed. You too...have passed a landmark goal with finishing your book. And a first anniversary. SO...Good for you for heading here. You are starting again...YES!!!!!!!!! That's the key...you are doing this! Well done. Glad you are here. Yes...you...can. Remember to focus on fitness goals too,,, not just the scale. Diversify! (I am stuck myself...so maybe this can help nudge me too!) Hugs!

Dan- sun sun sun...yes, yes, yes...days of sunny weather kissing my garden. I go out and sit with a "Sh__ __ Eating grin" on my face...believe me. I bet your air is amazing. Love spring air in the mountain woods as all the new growth begins. The crick is a prefect place to hang out, listening to the frogs ad they waken from a long long winter. Is the rope swing up yet????

Kay- ME too...I am out very early...watching the sun rise every morning...and no jacket, shorts...yep...we have taken a turn. How'd your knee feel hiking in???

Me- I have had some appointments last couple days. Eye- got cataracts in both eyes. Bleh...my Lupus and asthma meds apparently...swell. I am not freaking out, just saying. And saw my cancer doc today...lol...she said my scar did not grow this time! YAy...you have no idea...swell...maybe you do...she's been telling me to stop growing the keloid...haha...I tell her "OK". Anyhow...I will take this as good news. :)

So. let's enjoy the crick sounds.

List of Today's chores finished: cleaned & swept patio pavers and deck ( tons of pine needles & leaves needed to be removed), put out my patio furniture & cushions (still need to clean the chairs and 3 tables) , cleaned up all the plant pots & planters that were scattered against the back outside wall of my garage, raked gravel off my lawn (piled there from snowplows clearing my driveway this winter), shoveled that gravel into a wheelbarrow to dump on a low spot in my driveway... And indoors started clearing pictures and furniture out of my "Great Room" so a friend can repair the drywall in several areas (including "WAY UP HIGH" at the peak of the cathedral ceiling) next week and then he's going to repaint the walls and ceiling...

I think I'm out of energy for today ... emoticon
Still need to start cleaning up all the flower beds , but it's still a bit too cold at night & early mornings to uncover any sprouting plants
(Although. I did spot a few daffodils, tulips & crocuses starting to peek out of the ground) ... We still have patches of snow in shady areas, but I "think" Spring just might be winning over winter at last!

I brought morning margaritas back from my Cozumel cruise-who wants some? emoticon

I know it's been a long time-I hope you're all well! Beginning tracking, again. The story of my life. Highest I've ever been - Hard to imagine how I got here.

But that was yesterday and today is a fresh day with a great fruity morning start. Things are finally starting to warm up here in PA and my flowers are popping up beckoning me to begin working on our distressed lawn.

Have a wonderful hump day!

Awesome spring weather up here in North Idaho and getting to play with my toys out in the big sand boxes.
There are 11 deer below the house and several turkeys, a big Tom ruffled out and started chasing one of the deer down towards the ponds and all 11 deer took off and ran up into the timber lol.

Hope all my ODP friends are enjoying life.

Enjoy

How was the hot tub soak, Choc? Hope it did the trick on the sore muscles! You've been cranking out the cleaning lately, your home must look spotless! Love that you were able to find new homes for some of your stuff...

Maui, digging in the dirt, new beds, water systems, and Leilani has a bf! In the scorebook? Sounds like your family is growing!

Wood, stargazing....it is humbling and gratifying! Glad the sleepover was so much fun, and congrats to your son! And DIL! What a great 5K for both!

Have any of you seen the movie "The City Dark"? We watched it recently on Neflix, its about light pollution, stargazing, etc, documentary film. We enjoyed it (and there are baby sea turtles, how can you not love that!)...

Skiing was good on Sunday, but my knee started talking to me, so I cut it short. It's been fine since then, so not sure if I should have pushed ahead, or if it was just smarter to head back and let it rest. It was really nice out though, and probably the last day out for us. Today I was supposed to start my new training program, but forgot that I had given the printouts to my trainer last time I saw him and said I'd just print out new ones for today. Well, guess who forgot to print them out? Moi! emoticon So we rescheduled, and I'll start on Wednesday...I went for a walk out back (instead of sitting on a elliptical, it's so nice out, I couldn't see staying at the gym when I could be on a trail!). Anyhow, work has been getting better since I decided to reorganize my brain, and start chipping away at all the little things that keep piling up, just an hour at a time....and I feel like I'm making some progress. And one of my coworkers is doing the same, so we're both feeling encouraged. At least I can breathe easier now, in that regard...

Hi Wood... Glad ur back!

Stargazing last night was so much fun, but I must have fallen asleep in my hammock... Thank you to whoever put a nice warm blanket over me,... Was a warm and cozy snooze through the night!

I'm taking a "day off" from all the cleaning and decluttering... Spent all day yesterday cleaning the garage and workshop, and today my muscles and back are really sore... So going to just rest this old body today, then get back to the chores tomorrow (still haven't even started on the yard... Still too snowy & muddy to do much out there yet, so will continue the inside chores until later this week when we will hopefully have warmer and dryer weather)

Taking care of my sister's big Bernese Mountain dog until Wed. Night, so I now have three big dogs tracking muddy footprints into the house every time I let them in... Have big towels by each door so I can "wipe up" after them (will add "washing & waxing" the floors to my chore list, but not until the end of the week for that job!)

Catch y'all later ... Think I'll go soak my tired & sore muscles in the hot tub for awhile!

Just keep swimming!

Never give up!

Morning deckies!

What a night under the starts! Wood, you said it...star gazing...one of life's gifts.

Snow, the Treehouse was a perfect idea. :)

Wood, what were you lookin at?

Dan- Wood- did you too get all those hammocks up? I woke this morning, in my Snorkel water blue hammock, blanket tucked around me...I was one tired pup again last night...Thanks for getting these hammocks up, who ever did.

Wood- your time with the family sounds super. Congrats to your son and DIL, great accomplishment. And a sleep over with the grandkids...at Grandma's...very cool. Nice time.

We played card games with Leilani and her bf last night (After finishing the last raised bed water system and netting...yay!) It was lotsa fun...the bf is now in the family game score book. hehe...Good weekend.

Kay- well...with this heat, the skiing must be going to end this week. We are expecting mid 80's ...so...watering my baby plants is in order and the snow must be going to melt.

Choc- soooooo...how warm did you get? I bet soon soon you wont even need that heater. With the warming temps, maybe you can get out on a short hike eh? Once the mud lessons maybe right?

SD- is that 'ol knee feeling any better????

Dan- the grandkids are back to school this week yes? You seeing signs of melting?

Well, I better git! Jobs need to get done outside before it gets too hot...wow...
see you later alligators.

Become the change you wish to see in the world.

Stargazing from the observatory sounds perfect! Save me a good spot.

Excellent weekend! (Here's where I am going to brag so if you want to avoid this, skip the rest of this post!) First of all, the grandkids were great for our sleepover in my Mom's basement. The 3 of them plus me and Luv all slept on air mattresses on the floor. First a bedtime story read by flashlight. Then everone honkered down and off to dreamland.
This morning my son in his wife did a big 5k down in Philly. Her first. She did great, but he did even better finishing first in his age group ( which consisted of about 450 runners! Yay!
Today we brought Mom back to our place for the week. Tonigh, country music awards.
Gosh! How good can life get?

Tomorrow, another day in the wood shop. Feel free to join me there anytime.

See you later in the observatory!

Life is good!

Snow... Thanks for the goodie.., brought a smile to my face! emoticon

Spent most if the day cleaning my garage... Lots of bags for the garbage pickup tomorrow, plus I found someone who wanted some of my "garage treasures" (two old aquarium stands, a charcoal grill and a few other things)... I'm doing a "happy dance" that I was able to "recycle" those items instead of just throwing them out! Got the whole garage and my workshop cleaned!

Only downside to the day was I sliced my knuckle open on a piece of sharp metal early this morning, (I'm such a klutz sometimes!!!) and with all the cleaning, lifting, sweeping, etc the knuckle bleeding kept restarting & I had to stop quite a few times during the day to re-bandage... It's not that bad of a cut, just right on to the knuckle so every time I bent my fingers the bandages would come off !

Warm & sunny today (in the 50s is warm for here this Spring) so it was a perfect day to attack the garage!

I'm ready for some major hot tubbing now... Lots of sore muscles!!!!

Just keep swimming!

Never give up!

KAy- yep, gardening...weeds much better undeeer control, and this heat ought to 'fix the dirt'...in for a break...haha....
You skiing?

Snow- Lov the idea...top floor observatory in the tree house , telescope out, clear skies and maybe we can have Dan help us get the hammocks out?
It's been a long time since we slept out in them.
Very cool you son brought you goodies from the market...we were going to go, but got out back...and there ya go. Please say hi to hubby for me.

Wood- bet you are having fun...lots of family. :) We have Leilani and her bf here this weekend and are trying to hurry up with chores so we can have some game time...should be fun. Board Games will always remind me of playing at your place and family. :)

OK...break is over!

Happy Sunday morning to you too Kay, and everyone who is up and going already today! We slept in a little bit, my son already went tot he farmers market and brought home all kinds of veggies, fruits and spices...and a gorgeous huge Orchid for me!! Our breakfast is cooking as well, and I want to spend the whole day outside - if it cant be skiing.... it will be gardening, feeding my plants and flowers are top on my list.... then of course weeding! Everything is growing like crazy, loved all the rain this week.

Im sending some heat your way Choc.... maybe you will top out in the 60's soon, and thaw out a bit ! Have a nice Sunday in the Woods, Im imagining you hot tubbed it this morning, and will follow at some time with a hike later?? Put those warm clothes on to clean your garage tho, mine is always cold!! Im glad ours got cleaned up last weekend, so great to see all the Xmas bins go up in the attic finally!!! Unlimited trash day was Tuesday and they hauled all the junk away, so Im feeling pretty organized.

Lets do something different this evening.... Jupiter, Mars, Venus... emoticon . maybe we should go up to the observatory and check out the constellations and Mars is so close right now, its easy to see detail..... emoticon just a suggestion.....

Good Sunday Morning OP! Did everyone survive the hot tub and brandy last night....and the chocolate!?!

Your hummers sound so cute, Snow, you do treat them right!

Maui, more gardening today?

Choc, heating up?

We're headed out to ski today, hopefully sooner rather than later, although I slept in a bit, and it's taking awhile for me to wake up fully....but the dishes are done, and I'm getting ready to chop omelette veggies...so it's happening.

emoticon SPLASH!!! Im in...in the hottub..... not sure about Brandy tonite, but I will love the company!! It's killing me to hear about your daily skiing emoticon when Bob and I haven't been skiing in atleast 2 seasons now!! But someone has to do it I guess, and I like hearing all the ski buzz anyway! emoticon (really I do!) Yay Larry!! New skiis!!

I like that you got on your hillside and got a great nature fix.... I can just see those little bunnies in my mind! emoticon Maui and I always see them when we go to Rancho San Antonio preserve, so cute the way they disappear into the thickets. Chocolate? You said you bought chocolate??? Uh oh..... emoticon .

Well, after work today I layed down with my pups and took a nap, it felt so good to just pass out and dream away. Now Im up and watching DH fix dinner for us, while I touch base on the deck.

Choc, Im glad you will be in the sunshine emoticon and your heat wave makes me shiver... but I know its all relative to the icey conditions you have had! Soon your daffodils will be peeking? Let me know when you see a hummer.... mine are here and there - one tried darting in for a visit, almost made it in the front door! Such curious little guys!

Im looking forward to a summery day tomorrow, altho we have not made plans to do anything special yet. He's traveling on Monday, so Im thinking a little hike and just spending time around home and mostly outside putzing around.

OK, dinner is on the stove, and time to sit outside and play with the dogs and the tennis balls for a bit. Monday starts my LMS.... I have to concentrate a little better on my diet and shed a few for the summer! Now.... will someone turn on the bubbles here in the hot tub?? Feels so good on tired muscles!! Im loving the stars tonite!!

A soak and a brandy, sounds like a plan, and a well earned treat for you Choc and Maui! Mind if I join you? I ended up going in to work for about 5 hours this morning, skipped the gym, went to Trader Joe's to stock up on chocolate and some other stuff...then I realized I only had about 3000 steps and it was well past noon! emoticon So I went for a nice hike out back, now I'm over 14K. emoticon Nice day out, a little bit of a chill in the air, but it's sunny, the sky is blue with those puffy white clouds, and lots of blooming going on, birds chirping and building nests, bunnies hopping...gotta love it!

Welcome Nokomis! Hope the mud doesn't cause too much trouble!

We're skiing again tomorrow, hopefully early (should be warming up a lot in the afternoon, so it would probably be better earlier than later...). Larry tried out his new skis on Friday, I guess he likes them, even if they are Fishers!

Choc- you can count me in...I too worked outside all day...
Sounds like you got plenty done ...but thorns...ouch is right. Hope you are not too worse for the wear. And Sunday garage...wow...you 're on a roll. good for you! Must feel fabulous.
Heat wave...well about freakin time. Sheesh.
Now, don't feel bad when I tell you...a real heat wave is going to hit us...maybe 86 on Monday...what????????? Ok this is why I was working like a dog all day. We got rain...weeds come...they try and make seeds ASAP...and then temps in the 80's and the soil turns to rock...springtime is a race for us...

Snow- I bet you'll be out there tomorrow.

Nokomis- Welcome to the deck! I guess the mud has to be a good sign, spring is actually going to arrive. Vermont and muddy trails...how long do the closures last?

OK...hot tub time...and think I am gonna open that Brandy. ;)

Nokomis... Lots of mud here in Michigan too... But even with the mud it's so nice to finally have some warmer weather & watch the snow melting away! (Of course the bad part of the spring thaw & mud is having 2 big dogs leaving muddy paw prints on all of my floors! Good thing my floors are easy to mop up LOL!)... And by the way , welcome to the team & the deck! :-)

Spent part of my day cutting brush & branches that were infringing on my driveway... Wouldn't mind that exercise so much except most of it was "Russian Olive bushes" full of thorns!!!! OUCH !!!!! But I got it done, one more spring chore crossed off my very long list of "to do's"

"Heat wave" predicted for Sunday... All the way up to high 50's!!! (Sad state when I call that a heat wave, LOL, but after this brutal winter and very cold spring I'm ready to celebrate every little rise in the temps here!

Sunday chores for me will be to "attack" the garage and workshop... Been too cold to do much cleaning out there up to now.... Might empty & clean the hot tub too... We'll see...

Speaking of hot tubs, after all that brush clearing I'm thinking a good long soak here on the deck with y'all sounds like great therapy for sore muscles... Who else wants to join me?

Morning deckies! Happy Friday.

Wood- Welcome back! You know how much we love you here and miss you when you're gone...
teehee...yeah...sorry about the Brandy stash, guess we missed you. I have replenished your stash...don't want you going without.

Snow- Hey...can you believe the week we have ahead??? Sure cold and wet this morning, almost hard to believe possible 80's next week. Glad you took a recovery day. I have been stretching and icing and am feeling better. This was my error...I hadn't done hills in a long while. Muscles were not sure, but shortened...Much stretch like crazy. But full recovery is near.

KAy- Eggplant...both...I have oven roasted eggplant in my freezer from last year. I have baby plants already about to bloom, 12" tall and wide...I have tomatoes and strawberries blooming too. But I am baying them...a ton. Starterd them early, set plant out in raisd beds about 3 weeks ago. I have cages/nets around everyone...and I am putting my frost cloths on as blankets every night, off every morning...haha...I know...crazy, but its working to keep soil temps at 50. This week ought to clinch it...warmer weather is on its way. Sooooooooo glad you got out to ski! And new Skiis for LArry out of the deal...very good. Happy Friday.

OK...hello to everyone else...
I am off...busy day...weekend guest, garden and cooking...stuff...
Enjoy...Life is Good!

Well, a bad day skiing, is quickly forgotten once you get in a good day, and yesterday was a good day skiing! Even if Larry did break his ski (20 years old, finally time to break down and get new equipment). We got him some new skis, boots and poles (the boots had broken earlier this year, so instead of a zipper, he's been using a hook and eye system to close it up!) Now I will never see him again when we go out, he's going to be so fast!

Glad you had a great time with the Nomads, Wood, that work sounds very fulfilling!

Snow, good for you for taking a day off from the gym! Enjoy your date night, and spin class with your hubby!

Maui, do you have eggplant growing already or is that from last year? Is Snow right, is spring coming back this weekend? I was really getting used to the sun and warmth, this cold spell has set me back a bit, even if it did mean I got in another ski!

Well, I'm walking to work today, so better get a move on! emoticon

No more brandy!!! Not even nice to say Maui! Just checked my stach that you guys have pirated, but I see you haven't even made a dent in it. Anyway, you all knew I'd be happy to share it with you! Careful though, It's a lot stronger than the wine that you're used to here on the deck. Wouldn't want anyone want anyone doing anything that might embarrass you later! Nah, I didn't think any of you would believe that! Actually I'm a little flattered that you've all adopted my beverage of choice! Pizza and brandy sounds wonderful and doable here on the deck! In real life it would still be wonderful but we'd pay the price of about a million calories!

My experience with NOMADS was everything it should be: hardworking people who give freely of themselves, but still know how to have a good time; got to work in an absolutely beautiful area - the Smokey Mountains; as always on our trips we met great people everywhere; got to add more firsts to our lists of adventures! Life is good!

I HIGHLY recommend volunteer work to each of you when you reach the stage in life when you're able to do that! It's very deeply fulfilling!

Now, an explanation as to why it has take me so long to get back on the deck. Leaving home for almost a month has it's costs. Spring is always one of the busiest times of the year with LOTS of property cleanup, garden prep, and the eternal woodpile; to say nothing of prepping for Easter, other special events (will be having 3 grandchildren for an overnight tomorrow night while their parents run a race in Philly. Going to take them for an overnight at my Mom's). Bringing Mom back for a week which will include our family egghunt. Then Easter, then our first dance/camping weekend, then a music festival in Ocean City, Md. and then.......
Well you get the idea. So anyway those of you who have been with me for a long time (and I do love you) know that when I get really busy, one of the things that I put on the back burner is my tech time (which includes social media).

Phew! Got that off my chest!

Snow - You're an exercise addict! So even though you didn't feel right about taking a Thursday off, it wouldn't have any physical effect on you whatsoever! Oh wait, maybe you do look a little heavier! LOL! Nope! You look amazing!

Maui - I am sorry that I haven't done well with my timing for a chat! We have to remedy that sometime soon! Especially glad to hear that you're getting all this outdoor time now without having any breathing problems!!! Yay!! Makes exercise and outdoor work a lot more pleasurable! Speaking of exercise, that's another thing I need to fit into my schedule a little more aggressively!

Kay - Bad ski days? There's such a thing? You know what they say, something like "a bad day skiing is better than a good day at work"? My skiing on snow is done for this year. Now I can start to think about doing it on water. (Well in another 2 months anyway. I used to waterski early in a wetsuit. Now I wait for the warm weather. Part of getting older I guess.) I just looked over your pics again on your homepage. Yep, you still impress me with all you do! Glad to share my brandy with you!

Choc - Yay! Spring weather is finally here (and there). It's a lot easier to get out into the hot tub again now that it's now 15 and windy!!!! Now when are you and Kathy visiting us this year?

I know that I didn't get to everybody, but that doesn't mean I don't think of you. BTW - I'm back in the woodshop for a couple of days. I need to get a couple of projects done quickly. One of them is for the Bridge of Hope Gala which is next week!!! Again I'm donating woodwork for their auction!

Life is good! (Remember that!)

I am looking forward to Pizza, emoticon Brandy, emoticon hot tubbing, and whatever might pop up later on! I took a day off, not a day off work, but a workout emoticon day off, I don't think I've ever blown off going to the gym on a Thursday EVER!! And I slept in, emoticon took my time having breakfast and such, didn't have to be at work til 12... and so I took my gym bag ( because that is what I always do!) to work and figured Id just do a spin class after my last client. When that time came.... I was talking to myself saying "WhY??!!" emoticon Why cant you just call this a recovery day and just go home?! LOL, so that's what I did...and Ill be much stronger tomorrow for having done that Im sure!

In the morning it will be some Weight training and then a fast, fast Zumba class followed by work and then date night with DH for spin class emoticon .......sometimes honestly...I think I just have too much energy... I need to direct it somewhere, like the garden!!! emoticon Summery weather on its way after Friday.

Peekee Boo Maui... I see you!!! Dual posting you call it??? Go grab Choc, I know she wants to come, maybe she's picking up Kay and Wood.... just sayin'......***SNOW*** emoticon
Im bringing some Greek yoghurt and all kinds of berries and granola to top it off with.... you are going to love it!! After Pizza , of course!! Yummers....who is coming out tonite for bubbles and Brandy???

mmmmm, hope there is leftover pizza! emoticon I need to fuel up before we head out to ski. And it's only 10:30 and I'm hungry!

Work... emoticon I tried to call into a conference call from home (had printed out the invite w/ my notes, and it kept saying the number was not valid. These things drive me a little batty, don't know why they can't get their invite number right! And I just used those on Tuesday (same recurring invite) and it worked then. emoticon again! Well, I tried....time to enjoy the rest of the day, but that is par for the course with our corporate folks...

It's sunny, but cold! should be a good ski day...and it's almost Friday, so can't complain about that!

KAy- Hot tub and a little Brandy sounds like just the thing for tonight. Sorry work has been so rough...one more ski, sounds like a plan. Good for you...looking out for yourself. Gotta.

Snow- hey there! Yes...beautiful skies indeed. I can breathe...just perfectly, for several weeks now...no meds! My yard too...sparkly, happy growing, green, clean...Really good stuff.

I baked bread today and the bi-product is pizza. In between I was weeding...lol. They are growing back already! OMG. Crazy.
In between i was also icing my knee...last week I guess I over did...extra miles, stress, moving dirt and compost, mowing...driving extra to see/help my son...
bad knee is squawking. So, I am being good...icing, NSAIDS yep...hubbby's back is hurting and so we are ice dueling...haha.

Dan- Sup??? What mischief you up too???

Wood- you waiting till there is no more Brandy??? Hello...did you notice we found your stash?

Choc- Good to hear you have heat again...whew. Sorry for the expense, but hey...this one should be MUCH more efficient. So for teh next 30 years...you're set!

I have plenty of extra pizza...fresh as can be...yummy.
Time for that Brandy...
Kay- shall I pour you another?

Anyone joining us??

Could use a soak and that brandy tonight, work has been crazy, and I have been cranky....so I'm planning to slip out early tomorrow and ski. Hope the conditions are better than last time. Larry seems to think they will be, and there won't be much skiing left soon anyway, so may as well get it while it lasts.

Drove through grapple on the way home...in the sun! Strange phenomenon....

emoticon Hey!!!! where is everybody??? Helllooooooo? Wow, I must be on the wrong deck.... or maybe I had just better start decorating early for Easter..... I bet that will bring the "peeps" out where ever you all are hiding!! emoticon

The rain here has been a blessing, my yard llooks fabulous, all the plants are happy! The air is finally clear and fresh.... I managed a hike yesterday between downpours altho we got a little wet at one point... but it was fun!

Had a good workout in the am, a hike and then did a Zumba class with a new teacher, a little 19 year old who really gave us a work out! I am still trying to shed my South Carolina lbs...... its been hard to get the scale to budge, time to rev up the Vitamix and watch my diet more closely...think Ill wander over to the Hard Work thread....... a bit later.... a day of work first.

Hope everyone is springing into some new ideas for a healthy summer! LMS again anyone?

Well we did ski....gotta say, skate skiing is NOT fun with fresh snow...I suppose we should have bit the bullet and gone downhill, but I just love to skate...I'll try to remember to let the snow settle next time. I think we were just so pleased with the snow amounts (3+feet?) and the arrival of the sun! I survived though, can't say I was very pleasant about it! emoticon

But we had Larry's MIT buddy over for dinner afterward (ran into him skiing) and that was fun.

Choc, glad you are getting a new furnace, this one will keep you toasty warm!

SDL, indoor green garden? Sounds great! emoticon My gardening has been hit and miss around here. If it's not the squirrels or rabbits, it's the wind, heat and dry air! The plants just don't like any of that stuff. But I do keep a basil plant on the window sill pretty much year round now. Trader Joe's has been selling them more often, and when we demolish one, I just pick up a new one, it's so great having fresh basil.

Snow, busy gal! 3 hours at the gym? No wonder you need a rest, you have heard of overtraining right? Maybe you spend some of that time in the sauna? Gotta rest sometimes, they say that's where the magic happens....

So speaking of rest and magic, I heard the hot tub is open? We haven't had dinner quite yet, but I sure could use a soak! It might help me get over the bad ski day...ahhhhhhh

We are so blessed to get this rain, and it appears we may have a lot more coming as well...fingers crossed!! Having to drain the pool, but all the flowers look happy!

Getting out to the gym in a bit, just chased Wood down his driveway- he was out running in the sunshine after the ice storm yesterday I guess. I caught up with him, he seems to be feeling like chopping up some wood, so I said I would just wait in the shop and take pictures of his efforts!

Maybe Choc and I will share the hot tub tonight? Ill be there...who else ?

See you later, ***SNOW***

Snow... Yup, furnace is fixed, (my furnace guy is awesome... Local business and he's always come to my rescue right away day or night when the furnace dies... He's been my knight in shining armor for years of furnace emergencies)...I've had so much trouble with the furnace the last two or three years that I've decided its time for a new one (the one I have is 26 years old).... So my furnace guy is coming back out Mon or Tues to do the install...(and gave me last year's price quote, so it's a good deal... And better yet I won't be constantly wondering if I'll have heat or not!)

Another hot tub party tonight? Oh yeah, I'll be there!!!!

Hello, everyone!!! I know, I suck for not being on here more. Thank Kay for encouraging me to swing by between assignments this morning! I've been on Spark but mostly just to check my news feed and maybe update my status and post a blog. I certainly miss the interaction, though!

It's so great to see the conversations have shifted from freezing cold with snow and power outages and ice to talking about gardens and wearing jackets! As someone who did not experience any of the weather you all did, I feel a sense of excitement for you all to be finally coming out of such a grueling winter! I, too, am contemplating starting a garden. I actually try this every year and it always fails, lol. This year I'm going to try planting an indoor greens garden. Radishes, spinach, kale, lettuce, and maybe some basil. Hopefully it sticks this year. My mom has a green thumb and I keep hoping I inherited it, but so far the evidence is not in my favor, haha!

Aside from that, powering through my last few weeks of school! I graduate May 18, but I'll be done with everything by the 8th which is FAST approaching! After that I go straight into my Phd program! Got that acceptance email last week. WOOHOO!!! There's a lot more that I blogged about, so check it if you find the time and you're so inclined. ;-)

Hope everyone is having a relaxing Sunday! I'm in bed with the BFF doing homework, applying to scholarships, and searching for employment post-graduation. SOOOO MUCH to do but all SO EXCITING!!!

I walk by a house up the street that had veggies in the front yard, never "napped" any of those, but I can't say it never happened! I suppose easy picking will be picked by folks with less scruples and easy access.

We got lots of snow at the ski area....Larry still wants to ski today, I'm thinking it may be too cold for me! Can't believe I'm becoming a fair weather skier, but I may just bundle up and go as well. I'm warming up to the idea....and from the webcam, it does look pretty....but chain controls still, not sure it's worth that kind of effort to me right now! Decisions, decisions...

Took chunks of tilled sod to patch some bare areas in back. Area is unobtrusive and can hardly wait for things to warm up enough to plant. Work was done in just over 6 minutes! Would have killed hubs and me. As it is got outside for "general gardening" for 2 hours including some honeysuckle attacking and winter clean up in the forest. So good to get outside even if it is still jacket weather. Took a video for our youngest grandson to view- he watched it 3 times. That kid is a genetic farmer!
Sore in _________(bodily place:you name it)! Is it too early to start drinking that brandy? emoticon

Wonder if we'll get vegetable-napped, too. Probably just from the wildlife. Don't really think others will notice it much as it will be hidden from the street by other plantings in the front.

It's raining...so I'm trying to get my steps by pacing up and down the stairs! I'm up to 6700 so far...not too bad considering it's an indoor kind of day.

I may brave the hot tub in a bit, I don't think it's too windy so I should be able to run out and hop in quick enough!

Looking forward to the brandy! emoticon

Maui, glad the pollen hasn't done you in!

Choc, nice work on the decluttering, hope the allergies subside quickly!

Not sure if we'll get out to ski tomorrow, I told Larry I might be able to play hooky from work next week (well, go in early and leave early) to go skiing if we have a better day for it. Just need to make sure everything is going smoothly first...

Dan... That was pretty funny, LOL (brandy will do that!)

Hi Kay & CD emoticon

Maui... Glad no ill affects from the pollen... I'm fighting allergies today from cleaning my basement... Lots of old "dusty stuff" to store or throw out... Pretty stuffed up & "wheezy" after all that (And I haven't even done the sweeping part of cleaning the basement... Think I better wear a face mask when I kick up all that dust!!!) ... Did finish decluttering a bedroom and my utility room today though... And since it's FINALLY supposed to start warming up this week the garage is next on my list (still have snow on the ground so the yard and flower beds are at the bottom of the "to do" list)

Sipping on some wine that a friend gave me (they make their own wine) ... I'm sure this wine will help ease my allergies, LOL!

Happy Saturday deckies!

So far so good, no ill effects of the pollen...sheesh...last night my eyes were blurry, so I was worried. Kay, yes...everything is covered in my yard.

CD- Hey, good good...plow up lawn and plant garden. That's my plan...haha...I keep eyeing more of my yard. But for now, I will stop with what I have and hope we can keep this much watered. I have all mine out back...my front is challenged due to tree roots. I have a VERY large redwood out front and it's roots cover the front. (Not complaining...just facts) And, I have often wondered if my veggie crops would get stolen out front.

Dan- hahahaha...yep...i doooooo remember this part of last night...one bite of stew, one sip of Brandy, then eventually heading to the hot tub WITH the Brandy...and um...well...yet again...who ever it was who brought out the pink floaties...bless you. My back is much more relaxed after a night in the hot tub.

Kay- Oh yes...plenty of Brandy...Wood had quite a stash. Hehehe...I am sure he was hoping we would find it. And That recipe looks yummy, Going on my 'try it' list. Behaving wrist and knee...good good. (I had to ice my knee this week) Bleh. It'd been awhile.

Dan- have fun with the boys!

Missed the brandy, maybe there is some left for tonight?

www.fannetasticfood.com/2013/08/02/sweet-p
otato-lentil-coconut-curry/
this is the curry I made, had some for lunch yesterday, maybe even more yummy than the first night. I served over quinoa instead of brown rice, but it's probably good either way. I figured more protein w/ the quinoa, and quicker to cook. I was talking to a co-worker about the recipe, and wonder if just adding the lentils to the curry to cook along with the sweet potatoes would work just as well as cooking separately (unless you had lentils already cooked). I just seems like a lot of pots to cook them separately. Of course you'd need to add more liquid to the pot!

Vegetable garden in the front yard. Never tried it, but I have grown artichokes in the front yard (they are nice looking plants), and I think asparagus is supposed to be pretty nice looking too when it's growing, so I'd say go for it! (plus I love asparagus....) I think if you set it up right it could look nice enough so the neighbors wouldn't mind, but then I suppose it depends on what type of neighbors you have! Maybe share the bounty and they will join you!

Maui, that's a lot of pollen! Good thinking on getting the mask on! And good luck with your son's disability case, you are one determined mamma, I can't imagine you not prevailing in this!

Dan, got the big toys out working yet? Did you say something about a hot spring? Sounds wonderful...

We may ski today or tomorrow. They had closed Royal Gorge last week, but these recent storms have put down more base, so they've been packing and grooming....still waiting to see what the best day is to head out.

And I met my trainer yesterday for my final assessment for my program. Improved in all areas, so that's nice, And my knee and wrist behaved for the most part!

Friend coming over tomorrow to till up a good swath of our front lawn for a behind the berm, front yard vegetable garden. Figure we will have enough room for a set of tomato plants, a hill of potatoes, a bush or two of green beans, and maybe a green pepper plant or two. Excited to see what will grow here if it actually gets some regular sunshine! Don't think the neighbors would go for corn sticking up in the air or asparagus which I have been wanting for eons, but lets see how this experiment goes. Anybody else tried this?
Had a great character assembly this afternoon with Cookie Monster teaching a lesson on patience and rewarding the throng with a nice chocolate chipper afterward. We had 432 cookies and many smiling faces. "Me want it" parody of Icona Pop' s hit tune. What a rockin' afternoon at the escuela!

Hey Dan and Choc-
I know it's early out here in CA...but...I say it's Brandy time! hehe...

Choc- your decluttering project sounds super duper! Good for you! Busy is good...

So, had teh most pollen mowing I have ever had. Seriously...had a yellow dust cloud swirling 15-25 ft around my mower . The mower and bad, completely yellow. HAd black gym pants on and a long sleeve black shirt,...was completely yellow. I had to go in and get a mask...OMG...I came in and through all teh clothes in teh washer after shaking them out and showered. I think if my hubby had had to mow, I'd have had to take him to the ER. Never had it so bad before...wow.
Brandy time. :)

Maui & Dan... Hot tub & Wood's Brandy, oh yeah, count me in!

Maui... Still working on main house decluttering & cleaning... Washed all the drapes yesterday, finally "found" the top of all my kitchen counters (I have a really bad habit of walking into the kitchen & just dropping whatever I'm carrying onto the counters... Boy that stuff piles up quickly!) next will be the office, the basement (and if it ever warms up I need to declutter the garage and start cleaning up the yard... But we still have snow on the ground so outdoor chores will have to wait)....also Donated 5 or 6 big bags of clothes and household items to Goodwill and Salvation Army, and have a feeling I'll have more bags filled up soon for another donation drop...

The good thing about this "mega-cleaning" binge is that it's kept me so busy I haven't had time to have "snack attacks" during the day! Haven't lost weight but haven't gained either so I'm happy about that, LOL !

Who else is joining us for Brandy & hot tub? Let's party!

Dan-hehe...secret hooch...you know...I bet he left it there, hoping we'd find it. He was gone a long while and hoped we'd think of him while we relax in the hot tub, sippin his Brandy.
Count me in...I'll be there with 'bells on'. I am ready for a deck night. I think it'd be great if Wood shows up...it's time, don't you think. He'd love catching us.
I bet you are loving the spring break with teh boys. What you doing today???

Kay- I did a little research on the curry sweet potato lentil stew...yes...sounds yummy for sure. Do you have a link to a fav recipe??
So how'd the knee feel walking to work??? Sorry you are feeling aches...yep...this aging can pop it's ugly head up, but with time you can modify and move past it. Honest...might require modification though.
And look at the forecast for tomorrow! Woot! More rain and snow for California and the mountains in your neck of the woods.

I am feeling a bit more encouraged this morning...been working through this disability issue and may have this review coordinator listening and working with me. I will not know for sure until the review is over and his disability has been reinstated...but when we hung up last, she was encouraging.I slept better last night. Yay.

Choc- you joining us tonight?? Hope so...good to hear you were able to get the tree and such clean up done. Progress has to feel good. What's next on the spring plan?

Tonight, I'll bring a beef and barley stew...we need food if we are drinkin Brandy...lol. Right??

CHOC - Do you save the wood from the Pine tree for your fire pit or wood stove?
Speaking of Hot tubs guess what I found last night down behind the tree next to the hot tub on the DECK - I found 2 cases of WOODS BRANDY ! ! ! What ya say we all meet down @ the hot tub tonight and sip some of WOODS secret hooch and see if he shows up and catches us?

Enjoy

Kay... Your sweet potato curry sounds yummy! Glad you're getting a chance to do some walking... Have you tried using some kind of knee brace to give you some extra support? I used to wear a brace duringy hikes (until it became obvious that I needed the knee replacements!)

Dan,... Congrats on a clean bill of health on your physical exams! You Rock!!!!

Had a local tree service come out this morning to cut down a HUGE dead pine tree (that was right next to my hot tub)... Sure didn't want that tree to put an end to my morning "hot tub & coffee" routine!.... Only took the crew an hour to bring it down, clean up all the debris and even chip up several brush piles I had back in the woods... One more. "Spring Cleaning" chore crossed off my very long list of "to do's"

Ok, gotta get back to work...Have a great day everyone!

Yep, back is OK now, wrist getting better (since I'm on a lifting break) and yesterday my knee started twinging while I was walking! About every 10th step or so it would let me know it was there....not sure what brought that on! I am slowly falling apart, it seems! emoticon

But my sweet potato lentil curry turned out nicely. It was a bit on the spicy side, but not too hot, the sweet potatoes and the coconut milk make a nice combo with the spices and sriracha. I threw in a little yellow curry paste, since I had that from another recipe. Served it over quinoa, tasty! And I have leftovers for lunch. Even though it says it serves 4 I ended up with 5 servings...I guess I can't count very well!

I'm walking in this morning, hope it's not too bad out there....it's been blowing wind all night. We did get some rain yesterday morning, early. I left for work at 5am and it was raining at the house, got to the main street, and it had stopped. From what Larry saw, it doesn't look like too much snow for the ski areas....maybe from these next few storms coming in? We're supposed to have them for the next week. I guess March is going out like a lion! And I was getting used to this springtime!

Maui... It took most of that day before the smell finally left the house!....Opened windows, had fans going, all that kind of stuff...but it sure took a long time for the kitchen to smell "normal" again!

Still really cold here but the big "Eastern Snowstorm" missed us... Supposed to get up into the high 40s the next couple of days... that'll feel like a heat wave!

Doing some major major big time spring cleaning and decluttering....can't believe how much stuff I've already thrown out and/or donated to charities (and still lots more decluttering left to do)...I'm such a pack rat !!!!!!

Morning deckies!

It's a glorious rainy day here in northern California...this is big news, cause we need more rain! Reason to celebrate for sure.

KAy and Choc- lol...not sure how I have avoided exploding boiled eggs, but alas I have...whew! Choc- has the smell dissipated yet???

Tar - sore muscles and sinus headache eh? Sheesh...Must mean its spring! I am usually sore in the spring...this week confirms spring for me...hehehe.

Kay- a Magpie next, how cool. Love nature discoveries during hikes...KAy, its so cool you get to traverse that kind of beauty on a walk to work. Btw- glad to hear the back is holding up...but gosh, wrists...you have had a LOT wear and tear the past several months. Hey...after all the employee changes, has the dept hired again? Do you have any good help??? Sure hope so. And you should be getting some snow today, yes??? I heard up to 16 inches above 6000ft Maybe there is another ski day???

Speaking of hikes...Snow and I finally got to meet up and hike for several hours yesterday. A perfect day, just before the rain. And did we ever get caught up on chatting...love you Snow! Very nice day...and yes...come over anytime to check out the boxes!

Choc- Spring??? More signs of spring in your neighborhood...or are you getting this snow storm too???

Dan- do you have any signs of spring?? Temps rising a bit???

Today, I have to yet again deal with the social security office as an advocate for my adult son. Please keep me in your thoughts and send positive energy! We are no way 'out of the woods' yet...Thanks.

I made a pot of chicken chili with Rio Zape heirloom beans, with a fresh cilantro relish atop...a little 'heat' from the jalapenos, fresh limes to squeeze on top...so...when you are hungry and need a lunch break...help yourself.
