Another below freezing morning here... Trying to convince myself it's not too cold for a morning hike... Maybe I just need ONE MORE cup of coffee to wake me up & motivate me for a cold hike, LOL

We may have lost some emoticon because of a few emoticon (without the rain) but I didn't see any eclipse, that would be cool... emoticon

Maui, thanks for the virtual apple crisp! It hit the spot!

Back to work for me, I did get to my yoga class, but then Larry wanted a ride to the eye doctor, and I ended up not making my zucchini dish. I got some stuff prepped, so maybe tomorrow?

Happy its' Friday!!!! emoticon

Bears and Eagles, yeh ... I like that..."sounds more like football, you're pretty clever Kay!!
If we lived a bit closer, we probably would have passed eachother at the gym.... I went to steps class andffollowed it with a half hour of ST while waiting for spinning to begin. Had a great time - and now going on a hike with another pal. Sorry I cant chat Wood, but how do you like the cleaning up that Maui and I began for you early this morning? WE wanted to surprise you!! Ill be back later to put some things back in the right places, I figured it was best to move everything so we could clean behind stuff.... looking better already! Team effort here prevails on the D E C K.

Beautiful day today in Ca. Breezy, but warm... aren't we supposed to lose a little sunlight today for some type of eclipse? I think I read something along those lines...
Hope you all are having a emoticon day, even if it might not be perfect weather, I wish that your outlook on life is bright and sunny.... LIFE is good! ***SNOW*** emoticon

Morning all!

Malia ! Yay...How are you? Grad school trucking along??? I remember you moved and hopped right into grad school...you settled? Really hope its all going well and leaving you some time to get out and about. Speaking of outdoor adventure, how is your knee??? So good to have you back...like Wood says...glad it was not goodbye...just busy! It happens.

Wood- Yes, always good to catch up. I'll jump in with Snow to help you spiff up the wood shop in preparation for winter creations. Fun. Gotta get the Tapas bar cleaned, prepped and ready so we can all hang out while you work. You know we like to keep you company.

Snow- Yes...the hike the other day was perfect! Clean air, sunny skies, cool temps, GREAT company. Looking forward to our next meet-up.

Choc- I hear you about humans and wildlife. Here we are having much controversy regarding big cats. Due to the drought, there are mountain lion sightings down in residential neighborhoods. Most often, the cat will be shot, since no body knows what to do. But, it saddens me. These big cats are just thirsty and following the small critters (food), down out of the hills. Once the rains come, this should turn around.

Mary- I thought of you yesterday as I was catching up out back...My peas are 2-3 ft tall and setting pods are beginning to fill with little peas. :)

Kay- Day off eh? Nice! Hey, I saw that Heavenly Valley had a dusting of snow, the morning after we left...did you get any?

Eggs and toast sounds perfect. Thank you! I'll add some apple crisp for a mid morning snack...had some yummy gala and honey crisp apples cooked up with oatmeal and almond crunch topping...you can have this in the virtual realm yes?
Plenty for everyone!

Mowing and composting day here... Plus other stuff...indoor house cleaning while it warms a bit outside...
I am off!

Become the change you wish to see in the world.

Hey, Snow, I'm off today too! Planning to head to the gym later for a yoga class... emoticon

Eagles and bears, that does sound more like football than baseball.... emoticon Choc, I agree about the people not doing those bears any good, I think I saw a story about a woman this past summer who was feeding a bear near Lake Tahoe, can't remember if they actually arrested her, or if the bear ended up harming her, something like that....not a good thing! Let the wild animals be wild...

OK, Wood, I can hear the air compressor charging up now, that's how Larry likes to clean out the garage when he's doing his woodwork!

I think it's time to rustle up some breakfast, anyone else up for some eggs and toast? emoticon emoticon

Wood... That's really cool about the bear! (Might give you some competition when it comes to fishing! LOL).... We have bears in Michigan, but mostly in the mid to northern parts of the state ... When I went backpacking on Grand Island (near the Pictured Rocks area / Lk Superior part of Michigan's UP) I had to hang all food & cooking gear on bear poles & store my other gear in bear "lockers" that are provided at the various campsites... This past summer the state park service actually had to close down camping on the island for a short time until they could capture & relocate a couple "problem bears" (the problem was due to people either purposely feeding the bears or carelessly leaving food around their camps & soon the bears "learned" a new source of food... Always amazes me that some people don't "follow the rules" when camping in bear country... Dangerous for people AND for the bears!)

Yeah, I agree Kay. Sort of like the kids stopping in for a quick visit: brief but always glad to see them!

Choc - I'm thrilled every time I see an eagle! We have a couple that live down along my stream now and I see them sometimes when I'm down there fishing. I'm always a little disappointed when I don't sight any of them. A different kind of sighting here a couple of days ago, by my neighbor, Deb, not by me. Apparently we have a bear in the neighborhood. That's a first, no one, not even the people who have always lived here, have ever seen a bear here. Don't know why though we have plenty of good habitat for them. I just hope he keeps to himself and doesn't get to be a problem. I'm looking forward to meeting him!

Maui - It's about time we had one of our long phone calls. We needed to catch up! Always a pleasure!

Snow - I don't know why, but it really surprises me that you're a baseball fan! I enjoy the game, but like football, I don't take much time to watch games! My Dad was a Phillies fanatic and seldom missed watching a game that was on tv. I have fond memories of going to occasional games down in Philadelphia.

In fact, he was such a baseball fanatic that we had a ball diamond in our backyard. Well it was a softball diamond (not quite enough room for a hardball one.) Yes a real ball field with lights and everything. We played every weekend from early spring until late fall. My buddies were all in awe over it! Funny when I think about it, because we didn't have a lot of money, but somehow Dad still managed to build his dream. I guess that might have been the secret. It was his dream and he and his friends did build it. No outside contractors.

Malia - Yes, I did make the assumption that you were not on the team anymore when I went to your home page and didn't see OP there! Really glad I was wrong! I'm okay with busy, but not with good-bye!

I've been working on giving my woodshop a total cleaning for the past week! Huge job!! Woodshops are dirty, dusty areas! Plan on finishing it today. Anyone who wants to keep me company there is welcome to join me!

Life is good!

It's always nice to show up at the deck and find friends there who you've been missing! Yes, Snow, I'm talking about you! And talking about you too Mary! Even though I knew you were at this tennis tournament, I've been anxiously awaiting news on how your team was doing! Isn't it great to belong to such a group that has such a good time together!? Life is good! Thanks for pointing out which person is you on your profile pic. I often wondered.

So Snow and Maui, how did the hike go yesterday? It makes me smile every time I know the two of you together because I can picture so vividly the non-stop chatter and the giggling! Would love to sneak along and listen in!

Yeah Kay, if there's one person on the deck who shouldn't have to look at my life with envy it would be you. For someone who's still so young, you and Larry manage to put a lot of excitement into your lives as well. I hope it never ends for you! Adventure (and the adventurous people we run into) make my world go round! BTW - I checked it out on the treadmill a couple of days ago after you guys talked about it here on the deck: my walk turns into a run at about 4.7 mph.

One of the songs I heard at the concert the other night went something like this: "if you look for love, you'll find it. If you look for heartache, you'll find it. If you look for peace, you'll find it. If you look for conflict, you'll find it. If you look for pleasure, you'll find it. If you look for pain, you'll find it. ....and so on and so on." You get the idea! If I can find the song on the internet, I'll share it because it so much describes the way I perceive life. I'll add, "If you're looking for adventure, you'll find it." or you can sit around and just let it all go by. Expectations. Imagination.

Life is good!

emoticon Hey everyone! Thanks so much for all the good wishes you sent my teams!

It was a wonderful long weekend! So much fun! Love, love, love those girls and got to know some "newbies" who are amazing as well! They came soooooo close...40 and over team made it to the semi-finals on Sunday but lost 2 courts in very close matches...I drove back home Sunday night but the 18 and over team won their semi-final match yesterday morning - I have never been so excited to get texts messages! a hubby was there reporting point by point via group text as 2 courts won in 3rd set tie breaks! Then in the final yesterday they split the first 2 matches and it was down to the 3rd court which again went to a third set tie-break but unfortunately that one didn't go our way...a real heartbreaker...my weekend roommate and dear friend Kathleen (in my profile pic I'm the one kneeling in front with sunglasses on hugging Kathleen) was one of the players on the deciding court...so proud of her...she played the number one position in the finals last year and this year...that's a tough job!

I took my bike along and rode 70 miles over three days riding from match to match! I was following friends on 4 teams and matches were spread all over the island which is very bike friendly and flat so the riding was easy and the weather was perfect!

Choc - I did go a month without soda - but fell off the wagon over the weekend - peer pressure! But I'm back to iced tea today. Brrrr is right! You sure didn't have much fall!

Wood - loved the shy mountain story! What a great weekend trip!

Kay - great job putting in the work to stick to your food plan - keep it up! Glad you had a nice ride!

Maui - A little rain! Yay! And you had a lovely weekend trip as well! (:

Had a bit of a gardening mishap last night ); I went out to cut some lettuce for hubby's dinner and took my phone as a flashlight...there was enough light so I didn't need it so I set it on the ground...can you guess what happened next?...Yes I left the phone and turned on the sprinkler emoticon at first it seemed okay but it's not...I've got it covered in rice hoping it will dry out and come back to life! Ugggggh....

Have a happy Tuesday!

Pura Vida!

Mary

emoticon Quick fly by, hi everyone!! Hugs to all... fall is here... we got some light rain for a few hours yesterday, lifted my spirits and made me feel very domestic (polished all the oak wood cabinetry!) Heading out the door for my steps class, run home and change clothes - Maui is chauffeuring me to a Los Gatos Creek hike.... its been so long since we have met up- you'd think we were in different states!!

Maybe this will start a new trend... either way- if you listen carefully you might very well hear us chatting and giggling away as we get some well deserved miles in together emoticon
Meet you all later for that hot tub... Are you up for it Choc?? Two nights in a row? I have to replace the twinkle lights on the stairway to the lookout... they aren't looking to bright these days.... was thinking it would add some fresh sparkle to our evenings.

I"m a little green with envy of all the nice outings you all have been enjoying, but then I remember, I've had some pretty nice outings myself! emoticon emoticon emoticon We did get out on the bikes, and i was still feeling my Thursday workout, so did not go the distance with Larry (plus he's just been getting out on longer rides more often than me, and has better endurance!). I did make 12.5 miles though, and saw some turning leaves up there, but a lot of the trees have already lost their leaves. Lots of folks out on horseback too, luckily I did not encounter them much on the trail (I don't want to spook a horse on my bike!), but did see them on different trails.

We got a smattering of rain last night, and lots of wind, and, of course, I'm planning to walk to work today, so I'll see how that goes!

The sky is just starting to lighten up, and I don't hear wind or rain...wish me luck!

Every time I show up at "The Deck" right now I expect Mary to be here with an update on the Championship! I'm looking forward to hearing how they've done!

Yeah Choc, we're getting some of your rain. Started last night and will persist into tomorrow, but it doesn't look torrential here. Northeaster going up the coastline will probably not reach inland far enough to affect us here.

My mountain is in hiding this morning. Probably irritated at me talking so freely about her the other day.

Missed a couple of days here on the deck. Was simply too busy to get here! Spent the weekend in Hartford, MD at a nice B & B. Got in almost 50 miles of biking between two trails: The C & O Canal Path and the Western Maryland Rail Trail. They actually run parallel to each other for about 22 miles. The Canal Path is dirt and runs along the Potomac River. It's a beautiful, but somewhat rugged ride, made a little tougher this time because the muddy spots were hidden under a blanket of leaves. Riding along and all of a sudden, Surprise!, you hit a "greasy" spot and the bike squirms erratically for a moment or two. (no crashes). The Western Maryland is paved but not as scenic. Nice part though is that they're close enough together to ride one east and then return west on the other one.

Yesterday morning went out with friends for breakfast at a Farmer's Market type of eatery and then played cribbage there. Went to the gym in the afternoon. Returned, mowed and then went to a John Hiatt concert at the Penn State, York campus. Really good country blues!

Life is good!

Maui... Oh, that weekend getaway sounded awesome! I'll bet the fall colors made for beautiful photos! Glad you and your DH got to hike

Kay.., I'd be really bummed if I had to give up mushrooms (love em!) but hopefully your meal plan will help you feel better... Did you get your bike ride in?

Mary... Did I read back somewhere on an older post that you've gone without soda for a month now? Wow, you definitely have more willpower than I did (I lasted 3 weeks, but have fallen back on "evil habits" of drinking diet coke again... I do try to limit it to less than I used to drink though, so maybe next time I try to kick the habit it will be easier than this last time)

Cold & rainy here today & predicted again for tomorrow... But by the end of the week we're supposed to be back in the high 60's (that's a "heat wave" for mid October in Michigan, LOL)... Hoping to get some hikes in starting Wednesday... Want to start going a bit farther each day, starting to "train" for next summer's backpacking trip to Isle Royale (and boy am I out of shape right now! Good thing I have months to "train"!)

Wood... Are you getting our rainy weather? I have a relative who lives near Pittsburg and he's been out bow hunting... Got himself a nice 10 point buck this weekend (made me think of you out on your mountain... Are you hunting this fall?)... We have lots of doe around here but I've only seen a few small bucks so far... I think the biggest I've seen so far here is a 6 point (the "big guys" are smart enough to stay hidden!)

How bout a bonfire and some hot apple cider on the deck tonight? Anyone want to join me?

Afternoon Deckies!

Mary- We have a little rain! Well...it's misting, but we will take it! emoticon

Kay- Adventures? well...yes actually. Hubby and I went on a whirlwind weekend to the mountains. Hiked up 'My Mountain' overlooking Faith Valley and Blue Lakes, and took a zillion pics of Fall color Aspens in Hope Valley, Day 1. Day 2 was a early morning drive around Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe, a hike up Eagle Falls Trail to Eagle lake, then drove around the lake and then more fall color hunting. We ate Saturday night at a German place , Himmel Haus great food and a beer! Drove home this morning so hubby could get to work, lol...he was there by 11. All good.
The skies we perfectly clear all weekend.

Did you get out for the bike ride?? Wasn't the weather amazing?????
I hear you on trying to cook without onions or mushrooms. Good to hear you are persevering.

Choc- well...hehe...it is October!

Wood- How was your weekend???? More fun, I am sure. Next training today?? :)

OK...catching up big time. I'll check back later.

It must have just drifted back out of the fog, Choc! emoticon Good luck to your sister, I try to get my walking speed up sometimes, but can't get much faster than 4.5 MPH before I have to start jogging....I admire those folks, like your sister, that can speed walk! emoticon

We've had pretty perfect weather here, sunny, just warms up enough to take the chill off, but not burn through everything! We're scheduled for a bike ride today, should be a nice day for it.

I did a bunch of cooking yesterday, trying to load up my fridge/freezer with stuff I can take to work for this food plan. The stuff I had in there all had onions or mushrooms, both on the "do not eat" list. emoticon Well it's only 5 more weeks....

Speaking of disappearing... Our stretch of mild fall weather is gone! Cold, windy and rainy today (can't believe how many leaves blew off the trees just today! Can hardly see my lawn under all the leaves)... And tonight through tomorrow morning it's supposed to drop below freezing!!!! BRRrrrrrrr !!!!!! (And in the morning my crazy kid sister is doing the Detroit Free Press marathon in that freezing weather... She does race walking, not running, but she can "walk" faster than many people jog!... I'll be rooting for her as I drink coffee & soak in the hot tub, LOL!)

Well, the symptoms come and go, but you're right, there have always been some issues, hormone related from what I can tell....those lady hormones can be a bear! emoticon But the plan is not THAT hard to stick to, I have 3 recipes from my book to try out this weekend, one is a fried rice and chicken that looks really good. I have to find some gluten free soy sauce, hope that's not too hard to find!

And Larry says tomorrow is the best day to go mountain biking, so that may mean I skip the yoga class I was thinking about attending. I got the new gym schedule, and no yoga on Friday or Saturday, but the rest of the week they have classes. Oh well, I'll see what works, and probably just do my own thing here today.

The sauna/massage was nice, but I'm still sore! Guess that trainer really kicked my butt more than I thought! 3 weeks off was maybe too much?

So what outdoor adventure do you have planned, Maui? I hope it's something good!

Morning Deck Friends,

Kay- Sorry you still have symptoms. Sheesh...but...I think 8 weeks (easy for me to say) is not really that long, still temporary. Tricking the body...yes...switching is hard...I believe this could be key. We all have this issue...but it often goes un noticed or not given enough attention...and as we age, we have to become more clever with how we make change . Don't let the body know...haha... I think its true when adding a new routine, increasing activity, going off NSAIDS, changing diet. Make changes sneakily...easier on the body. I think if we make too many changes at one time...we can unknowingly make he switches more sensitive as well. So...if you sneak...try not to sneak several things in one day...lol.
So...time to let your body recover and settle in.

Sore glutes...oh yes! :)
Yeah...not gonna say a work about the rain...OK? hehehe... Cooler here too.
Sauna, has to help! :)

Wood- Well, I had to read your story 3 times. Beautiful. You know I can picture sitting there right with you. We do appreciate when you write. You know this right?? For me...it causes me to slow down, take time to really enjoy what you have said. Thanks my friend.

Spinning...yep...I hope to find my way back to spinning...we will see. (Its so competitive at my gym to get int eh class...bleh...) But yes, great work out!

Have a great ride this weekend, you and Luv and friends. Sounds so fun.

Mary- Hey...we are thinking about you! Go Mary Go! We await your report! Have fun!!!!!!!!!

It's Friday! Let the weekend be an outdoor adventure! Near or far, its...as close as the door!

emoticon You almost make me blush with that description, Wood, poetic, and sensual....what a mountain you have!

Glad you like your trainer, and it's been a while since I've been in a spin class, but they do kick butt! Generate a LOT of sweat too, IIRC. I am happy to report that my trainer did not disappoint yesterday either, and I now possess a pretty sore gluteus maximus....but I get next week off, since he and his wife are headed to Zion and Moab for some mountain biking. I'll just have to kick my own butt.

Maybe Glor can watch some of the trainers at the gym and get an idea of their style, and pick one she thinks she will work well with (or who will work well with her, that's the important part!)

Mary, good luck with your tournament! Hope you kick a$$! emoticon

Maui, any rain on the horizon for you? I'm not sure what we have in store here either, but it sure did cool down the past couple of days. I hear you on not wanting to jinx it!

I have my sauna/massage today....so happy for that!

The FODMAP has been going OK as far as following the plan, but my issues have not yet resolved. Part of the plan is tracking it, so I figure in another week I should see some progress if this is going to work. On the other hand they say to do it for 6-8 weeks, so maybe it even takes longer than that? I'm planning to go for the 6 weeks (I think 8 will push into Thanksgiving, not sure how I feel about this kind of restriction then, but we'll see!).

Good morning Deckies!

Warning! The writer in me is begging to come out this morning! I'm going to chance opening his door and hope he doesn't offend anyone!

Just a few days ago I wrote of my mountain and her willingness to be somewhat showy in her autumn beauty. Well the last two mornings have found her in a very different role: that of a seductive nymph that enjoys fully teasing my senses so early in the morning. She knows that I am but a voyeur watching her awake each morning from my window. So she now wraps herself in a sheer gauze of misty fog. She was coy when wrapping herself in this shroud, varying the layers so that although completely covered, some parts of her are hidden totally from me while the fog is more transparent at random spots here and there, just hinting at what can't quite be seen. As she pretends to awaken, she slowly but boldly discards her veil of mist, allowing just a peak here and a flash of limbs there: totally absorbing my attention. Suddenly her shimmery fog is gone and once again she has captured me with her natural beauty, gloating in the power she knows she has over me. I tear myself away from my window and retreat to my coffee pot where I can regroup my thoughts and get back to the business of starting my day. Life is good!

Phew! Glad to get that out of my system! LOL!

Maui - Glor has not yet scheduled time with a trainer, but plans on it. She first wants to see if I survive the experience before she attempts it.

Leaving today what should be another awesome weekend. We'll be riding our tandem with a good friend of ours down on the C & O Canal Path down in Maryland. The leaves there should be breathtaking. To make it even nicer, we'll be staying in a B & B that's right along side of the trail. Good weather. Good company. A couple of days on a bicycle. How can it get any better than this?

Life is good!

Morning Deckies!

Mary- Well done you! Awesome...The hard part is done! So darn happy for you! A gift to yourself!

Wood-Well done you too too! Great goals. Core and upper body work will provide a bit a 'safety from future injury' . Very cool. Did Glor get a trainer too?

Choc- Gutters, Well done you too!...LOL...OK...I should not talk about rain, since maybe I am jinxing it. But I will say, my gutters need cleaning and I am not gonna do it. I figure maybe if I leave that job till after a good rain, maybe the rain will come. If I clean them, maybe that'll jinx it too...lol. So, I'll wait.

Kay- Kick butt for you too! LOL...Enjoy! Are you seeing some good fall color up there? I read the colors are close to peaking at the 5-7,000 ft level in the high Sierra.

OK...I am off...the list calls. Still riding that stationary bike ..its all going well. :) Yay...
Life is good.
Get out !

Good morning deckies!

Kay - hope the FODMAP plan is working for you!

Choc - keep on hiking! Good job on the gutters - it's a dirty job but has to be done!

Maui - Happy that you saved your Rose but sad that still no rain - hopefully soon!

Wood - your view sounds amazing! Glad you and your trainer hit it off!

Yesterday was my one month anniversary of no diet soda! emoticon

I changed my profile pic back to tennis team because tomorrow I travel with them to Hilton Head for 6.5 combo state championships! emoticon All of the other teams at state have coordinating tennis outfits - but as you can see we are the bad news bears of the court. We won last year! It was very exciting! I almost choked in the final match but thanks to my rockstar partner I got my act together and we came back from down 2-5 in the first set to win 7-5, 6-0...we won 11 straight games! and our team won 2 out of 3 courts to take the championship...a great memory! Sadly I couldn't play 6.5 this summer because the USTA bumped me up to 4.0 so I can't partner with a 3.0 anymore
Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Pura Vida! emoticon

Roses, gutters, butt-kicking trainers? We got it all on this deck don't we?

Just a quick "hi" emoticon this morning, I'm headed out for my butt-kicking this morning, and it will be a long day, since I'll get to work later than usual, and still trying to catch up there from my time off!

I hear you Choc! Cleaning gutters is not one of my favorite jobs either. So I put those mesh guards on all of my gutters as well as my mothers. Still needs some attention occasionally but not near as often as they used to.

We got some of that crazy weather that came up the Mississippi Basin, but near as much as we were told we could get. (although I might be talking too soon since the system is not completely through yet. Got some really strong winds but just briefly and a few very heavy showers.

To answer the questions about my first time with my trainer. First of all, I liked her very much. She seems to have a good solid understanding of the human body and how to get it to perform properly. Plus she's got a great sense of humor. We got along extremely well and both had a lot of laughs while she kicked my butt! My goals? Thought I'd try out for an Iron Man competition next summer! LOL! Actually, I'm really looking to improve my core strength as well as a little upper body. I am very aware of the fact that seniors start losing muscle mass in a hurry if they let it happen. So far, thanks to my lifestyle, I haven't been doing too badly, but I'd like to continue my lifestyle for some time to come.

Did I mention that Glor joined the gym as well?

Yes Kay, it is my kitchen window (actually my dining room window which is pretty much the same thing.) It's nice because it's a large window and is low enough for a good view while sitting. This time of year, it's the color. In the winter it's the open view to the wild life as well as some awesome snow and ice view. To make it even more interesting I have a number of bird feeders near the window so there's almost always something going on.

Choc - glad you're getting the fall hiking time in. A great time of the year for walks through the woods, but you're right, when the hunting season opens either keep to the roads or carry a rifle and wear orange!!

Kelly? Snow? Kits? Dan? Hello!

Got a workout today... Up and down a big ladder (seemed like a hundred times) cleaning out the rain gutters on my house... Nasty, dirty, yucky job carrying buckets of wet leaves, pine needles & "gunk" up & down that ladder....

Morning Deckies!

Wood- Well...how'd it go? Bet you learned something , even on day one. When do you go back for another training?

Kay- Yes, living without onions and garlic would be the hardest part for me too. How does one cook without them...hahah...but, maybe the temporary nature of this process will help you through. I know many folks who cannot eat onions. Sad.
Enjoy training tonight.

I worked from 9 AM till after 6m outside yesterday, with a 45 minute mid day break...haha...crazy tired last night, slept fine, and ready for a new day. Rose , who needed help, seems to be saved...yay. Don't look at my hands and arms. Yes, I wore leather gloves and long sleeves...hehe...but I do have war wounds.
Well...no rain came for us...had dark broody skies with some wind most of the day, but not a drop. Boo hoo. I skipped watering a few days in hopes it would rain...but no. Oh well.

I am off. New day.

Enjoy the fall day ahead. Cooler moist air. Different light. Colors. Nice.

You do have a way with words, Wood, I can totally see your kitchen window view (assuming that's where you enjoy your morning coffee....) of the hillside, just lovely! Kind of the views we had in WV, not so much here, we get a lot of yellow, but the sagebrush that grows on the hillside is the same green year round, pretty much! I have to look down by the creek to see any color in the fall.

And hope the training went well! As Maui asked, do you have specific goals, or just want to get stronger? Hope you got a great trainer whatever you need. I'm meeting mine again tomorrow morning after 3 weeks away....

Choc, nice wildlife on your hike....stay safe once those tree stands start filling up!

Maui, I think the FODMAP is quite doable, but still some tricky spots, I didn't realize the tea I drink almost daily pretty much all has some chamomile in it, that's on the "Do not consume" list, and not eating onions and garlic may do me in! But it's time limited, and then I'll add those back in gradually and see how it goes. All in all, I'm still doing much better than a month ago, so I'm encouraged that I can work this out.

Good luck with the rose project! We have winds today (started hearing the howling last night...but I was expecting them earlier, so happy they were calm on my walk home last night).

After noon folks,

Hey, Choc ...great miles! Good for you.

Kay- I looked up the FODMAP recipes/diet...looks totally manageable, especially for a certain time period. Sounds like a good plan. Hope it helps. Especially nice Larry can eat right along ith you. :)

Wood- Love the morning mountain description. Nice mountain you have there. Trainer, haha...very very cool. That's one of the best gifts I EVER gave myself. When I turned 50, I gave myself 2 x / week for about 9 months, with a very amazing lady personal trainer.
I learned a ton. I had taken classes from her for maybe 8 years before, so I knew her well. But since we were already familiar with each other, we could really make good use of our time. Huge success. Super you are taking this time to train. Do you have particular goals?? Exciting!

I have a huge project today. Cutting back more of this giant rose we have. We cut it back over the weekend, and the wind knocked half of it over, it bent into the walkway, before I could trim more...haha...huge job today. No option but to do it. But I am about 3/4 of the way through the task, taking a lunch break.

Wood... Love your description of the view of your mountain! Sounds absolutely beautiful!

Did a 3 1/2 mile "sorta rainy hike" this morning... Surprised a flock of wild turkeys and 4 or 5 deer along the way :-) also spotted
At least a half dozen tree stands for the upcoming deer hunting season (will need to avoid the trails and stick to hiking the back roads once that season starts!)

Need to get some household chores done... Be back later... Have a terrific Tuesday everyone!

Today, like most mornings, I have a morning cup of strong steaming coffee sitting here at the table in front of my dining room window. I love my view of the world and the way it changes from season to season; actually from day to day! Just a couple of weeks ago, the mountain I overlook was still total mix of the shades of green. When one thinks of a tree and thinks of it being green, it's easy to forget that a green oak is a different hue of green than a green maple which is different from a greet beechnut, which is different than the green of a black walnut and...well you get the picture. But now, with the exception of the pines, most are exchanging their coats of summer green to the many colored coats of autumn: intense reds, bursting oranges and brilliant yellows! And then, to make my view even more amazing, it the intensity changes before my eyes as the sun rises and the mountain explodes in the daylight! And then tomorrow, if one looks carefully, it's once again transformed and new and beautiful!

Life is good!

Well, Kay, you of all the people here will probably have the most appreciation of this: this afternoon I have my first appointment with a physical trainer ever! Out of all the years that I hung out at gyms and even worked at one, I have never had a trainer myself. Should be interesting.

Enjoy the day!

Choc, nice that you got in a hike, and feeling warmer too!

It was really warm yesterday, not as much today, and the trend is cooling, but I'm all ready to walk to work the next couple of mornings....Hit the gym today for a workout, no program at the moment, so I did my own thing. I'll have to look through the other programs I got recently and see which one tickles my fancy! I feel like I'm more motivated when I have a plan to follow.

I made a low-FODMAP meal last night that was actually pretty tasty, prosciutto wrapped chicken breasts w/ a sage polenta, and then I sauteed some zucchini in garlic-flavored oil to go with. Larry actually enjoyed it too!

Two days of frosty, freeze warning weather and now today it's a warm 60 degrees... Gotta love Michigan's fickle fall weather!

Went for a 4 mile hike this morning... Worked up a "good sweat" (translated means "boy how did I get so outta shape so quickly?")

Happy Monday Deckies!

Wood- Wow...yes...that wedding sounds really fun! Yep, I have never been invited to a wedding that said, 'wear jeans'. Fun Fun Fun. Lowers the stress for everyone eh? Raises the fun. Hmmm...porta potty....well...now that one I am not sure about. LOL... And you and Glor teaching he line dancing...perfect fun.
Thanks for sharing.

Mary- Well, I have been busy ...no rain yet...but I have everything crossed we will indeed get a real rain. So you had a little twister close by and critters busy busy. That time of year! Isn't garden lettuce the best? I was munching on lettuces and turnips this weekend from the garden. Lucky us eh? Mary my neighbors and I have been 'neighbors and friends since 1977. We are all lucky to have had each other through many 'spell's. Just hard with them so far away this time. He is more 'stable', and they are wondering how to get him home. Another day. We will see.

Kay- OK...FODMAPS it is...I have heard a little about this. Sounds worth a try. Sorry this is all such a struggle. But you sound like you are not letting it too down. So hard. Have you considered having the products off the FODMAPS list be totally pesticide free ? I just wonder ...how much a role that plays. (I know you know I am somewhat obsessed in this regard) ;)
Sure hope the journey becomes a clear path to feeling better.

Choc- Cool morning here, 52 when I got up! Feels great. Making bread and preparing for a little rain...haha...we can leave stuff out for 6 months and not worry. Putting my many sun umbrellas away, fertilizing, summer chairs away...must really be a change if I am doing all this! hehe...Yes...not a cool 28, but we are on our way I hope.

OK...I am a few bulbs to plant, and more...the list is calling...so I am off!
Enjoy the start of this glorious week.
Get outside if you can.
Make some healthy choices and fun ones too!

Become the change you wish to see in the world.

Sounds like that wedding was a lot of FUN Wood! How fun to lead the line dancing too, I used to do that a lot in a different life (during my 30's...) and really enjoyed it (line dancing that is). It sounds almost as fun as the wedding we attended, if much less formal! I did enjoy getting dressed up, but to go in jeans, that's a treat!

Well, we're back home again, and the weather here is warm and dry! I was getting tired of all the rain...so glad to be back west, even if we could use some of that rain for the drought, I'm happy to just soak up the sunshine.

Mary, glad to hear your garden is still producing! I picked a bunch of tiny tomatoes from my vines this morning, after cleaning out Trader Joes!

I'm trying a new food plan, called a low-FODMAP diet, I'm going to see if this will fix my tummy issues, or at least give me a direction to head. It's gluten free, and also some fruits, veggies and nuts are off limits as well as lactose for the first part, Then I'll try adding things back in and see how it goes. I started today, so wish me luck!

The wedding/party yesterday was absolutely amazing! Most fun wedding I've ever been to.
We were told to come in blue jeans. Well just about everyone did, except the bride who did wear a long white dress (which got totally muddy around the bottom 8 inches or so) and her brides maids, who all wore short black dresses with cowboy boots! They looked great! The groom and all his guys wore jeans and western shirts (and of course cowboy boots!).
Instead of an alter there was a "hitching post" made up of bales of straw and barn wood. We all sat on folding chairs and there was no groom side or brides side. Sign said today we were all one big happy family. Oh, I should mention that there were chickens and guinea hens running around among us.

There was beer and wine on tap and most had a drink in their hands during the ceremony.

Most guests had to park about a 1/4 mile down the road at the Boy Scout Reservation. No problem. They were shuttled to the wedding site by way of a hay wagon! LOl!

Bride arrived on a "Gator"! Her mom was driving! A Gator for those who may not be familiar with them is a large utility ATV often used on farms.

Even though the wedding vows were pretty standard, the minister joked around and told very funny stories. She was very informal and was a riot!

Reception was held in a big rental tent that included a plywood dance floor. Although the bride and groom dance and the Mother's dance were the usual slow dances, the wedding party dance was a country version of the "Electric Slide", led by Gloria and me.

The meal was a gold old country buffet! (Did I mention the beer and wine on tap?)

Lots of line dancing (again led by Glor and me as requested by the bride and groom.)

We laughed! We partied! We danced! What a great wedding!

Only negative I can come up with: all that drinking and only one port-a-john on the property!! LOL! (lots of trees)

Life is great!

The wedding/party yesterday was absolutely amazing! Most fun wedding I've ever been to.

Good afternoon!

Only made it up to mid 80s yesterday...very pleasant...was 75 this morning when I went for my first paddle in weeks...I startled a pair of mallards and they in turn startled me when they flew out of the marsh...it's strange - very near my house a large area of marsh grass is almost horizontal - looks like it was visited by a very small twister - no downed trees on the banks or other signs of damage...lucky!

lots of blue jays, squirrels and lizards in my yard these days...and one little red-headed woodpecker!

Wood - emoticon with your gym membership - keep us posted with what you're doing! (I'm still working at making muscle structure exercise a permanent part of my lifestyle but have done better the last few weeks)...so glad the rain didn't dampen your wedding fun!

Choc - brrr - that's chilly! Is it normally that cool in October?

Kay - safe travels home!

Maui - your neighbors are so lucky to have you! I hope he is doing better and that you've gotten some rain to make things a little easier for you!

I've enjoyed some delicious food this weekend including lettuces from my garden! emoticon

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone!

Pura Vida!

Mary

90 there. 60 here. and a little rainy yet this morning. Rain doesn't bother me much. Weather happens. You deal with it. But today some younger friends of mine are getting married outdoors. Would like a nice day for them.

Did something yesterday that I'm pretty happy with: joined a gym for the first time in years. In my 40's and into my 50's I spent a lot of time at the gym and actually worked at one part time. Then moved on to other things. Now with the incentive of reaching 65 I decided that I was due to return to the atmosphere of the gym. Looking forward to the routine. So Kay and Snow, you two gym rats proud of me?

Life is good!

That's whole lot of buzzards!!! (That's what we call 'em in these parts.) They really are hideously beautiful. I think they're great...both real and animated! Remember the vultures in Disney's Jungle Book? Too bad they weren't actually voiced by the Beatles which was the original plan. I also love Looney Toons Beaky Buzzard!

It's supposed to be 90 here tomorrow...I'll be heading to the waterfall to cool off!

Enjoy the weekend everyone!

Kay - I really screwed up! I don't know where my head is but you've been just a couple of hours away from us!!!!! I should have driven down there for a meet-up, but no, My heads in the clouds like usual and it never even occurred to me that you were not the usual thousands of miles away! What a missed opportunity! (for me). I'm so sorry we missed out!

Maui - Of course, I have imagined soaring with the creatures that do it with such grace! Used to think about hang-gliding lessons or maybe a ride in glider that is towed up behind a powered plane and then released! What a feeling of freedom it must be. The closest I've come is "Soarin" down at Disney World. ...and even that was pretty awesome!

Snow? Who's Snow? We used to have a "Snowsnake" that really livened up the deck, but I'm not sure where she went. Miss her though!

Choc - LOL! Sometimes it's the most obvious things that evade us! Then all of a sudden we have one of those "Well....DUH" moments!

Got to get outside and do a few chores before the rain arrives. Hope it's out of here by tomorrow morning since we're going to an outdoor wedding tomorrow afternoon of a couple of young friends of ours. (couple of kids we taught to line dance and then bonded with).

Life is good!

Ended up on a short climb yesterday, the "most exciting 5.3 you'll ever do" according to Larry, it was pretty airy, on a knife edge ridge, but beautiful views (and ominous views of the oncoming dark clouds!) I thought we might get rained on, but it held off while we were climbing, and only a few sprinkles on the way down. Wood, we're at Seneca Rocks, WV, headed out today to visit a local radio-telescope (this seems to be our year for visiting those!) and back to the in-laws house since we fly back tomorrow.

Afternoon Deckies!

Wood- Yes indeedy...Vultures are not pretty. But the fly , glide with such ease I don't even hear them coming, just the swooping shadows and boom they are right there. Amazing creatures. When Snow and I hike in the spring in the higher hills, the red tails hawks soar with beautiful grace as well. Have you ever dreamt you could fly like them? I have. When you come out to visit, we'll have to drive down the coast, south to Big Sur and watch for Condors. Beautiful as well. And no, I have never seen so many before, that's why I am quite sure they were a migratory group, rather than local residents.
Fishing...nice. Nice company. You know I went out in the middle of the night twice this week. It was so bright out...loved it. Beautiful light to see the garden. stars, moon...you bet...beautiful. I therefore did not get up too early.

Choc- Bookmark...yep...good idea. Maybe that'll help. I don't wait for notifications either.

Trail- Thank you for the link! Beautiful prairie photos. Love the winter view with the buffalo. Are you and your wife docents?

I have had a bit of a wild a crazy day. As you know I am housesitting for friends/neighbors. They have gone to PA for a month and the husband has been hospitalized with CHF. Can't breathe right, fluid and other complications. Wife is totally deaf. When they are here, I am 'their person' in the hospital etc. Sad. Scary. Wife has been txting all day, since she cannot hear what's going on. Very hard. She is afraid they won't be able to come home any time soon. sheesh. Life eh? Take time to hug your loved ones. I am happy I can offer emotional support if nothing else so far away.

Good news...I am planting strawberry starts from the runners, planting winter onions, some dafodils, yep...happy camper.

Snow- Speaking of flowers, just wanted you to know, my birthday yellow sunshine Gerbera daisy is blooming again. It has a golden pot and sits over by the deck steps overlooks the veggie garden. :) Hows your hubby's recovery coming along?? Did you hear we might get rain next week? Here's hoping!

Kay- yep...giving the tummy more time is probably a good thing. Hope you are enjoying your last evening.

Life is good.
Every day.

Become the change you wish to see in the world.

It's our last full day here, so hope to make the most of it! It's starting out sunny, if cool.... I made a mess of the microwave, over heated the coffee, and it overflowed all over, but it was easy enough to clean up, just meant less coffee for me. Probably better for my tummy that way!

Not sure if we'll be hiking or climbing today (I'd prefer hiking, but we'll see). Tomorrow we're headed back to Virginia, should be a rainy day, so time to get out of here!

My turn to look at the moon, but I really didn't do it intentionally. Just woke up early this morning and got up, made my coffee and headed to the hot tub. The world was totally illuminated by this giant orb in a crystal clear sky. Beautiful. Could have gone for a hike without flashlights, easily. We did that once out at Arches National Park years ago. We hiked out to the remote arches well after midnight with a full moon as our only light. It was a night that I don't think any of us will ever forget. Sort of another world type of experience. Again, beautiful!

Maui, vultures are residents here in my little mountains as well. We have quite a few (although not 25 or more, more 12 -15). Not the most beautiful creatures on God's earth but what grace they have as they glide on the thermals between and above the mountains. I think went man was first tempted to fly like the birds, he was probably watching vultures sail the skies.

Trail Trodder - Just got back from a 3,000 mile road trip through a few of the prairie states but we didn't get to Kentucky. Do you teach as part of the National Service, through the university, or as volunteers?

Choc - I don't even bother with the notices. I just have "Happy Hour on the Deck" hot-linked through my favorites and just stop in and see if anyone has been there.

Was going to go hunting last evening, but my stream beckoned me and drew me in for yet one more time wading the swift flowing stream before it simply gets too cold to enjoy it. Not as many cooperative bass as usual, but ospreys, heron, kingfishers, red-tail hawks and clouds of blackbirds kept me entertained. (and there were still some bass to provide me with some sport).

Think I'll get out there with one of my favorite toys this morning - a chainsaw. Life is good!

The Konza I speak of is a portion of what's left of the tallgrass prairie. My wife and I spend many hours at the Konza Prairie Biological Research Station, teaching others about the various ecosystems of the tallgrass prairie.

Kay... Thought of that, but it's been listed in my contacts for a long long time (I even tried adding it again)... Keep finding the spark notices in my spam folder, keep marking them as "not spam" and moving them to my in box... Nothing seems to help... Hoping once I'm back on "real" computers on the 11th that "maybe" problem will be fixed? Might have to end up contacting my email provider for help if problem continues

Could have used that coffee this morning, Wood! Sorry I missed it....but happy you missed that deer, or she missed you!

Choc, do you have to add "Sparkpeople" to your e-mail address book so it doesn't go to spam? Or just keep checking that spam folder..sounds like you should be back up on your regular computer soon though, so problem should be solved there!

Trailtrodder, hope you had a nice hike!

Mary, hi! emoticon

Maui, sounds like quite the sight all those turkey vultures, too bad you missed the shot, but at least you got to see the sight! I enjoyed some nice views today from the ledges. We got to the rocks today, didn't get too far up, but it was fine by me. Too windy at the easier part, and Larry couldn't get past a tricky part of the climb on the next try, and since I don't lead, we made our retreat! Just pretty views though of the hillsides covered in trees changing colors, hawks soaring overhead and leaves catching the thermals and going up and down above the forest....it was a nice day to be out!

Morning deckies!

Wood- I'd love a cup of coffee...just one though...Thanks!
Did you see that study released saying how much coffee we desire is genetically linked??
haha...another study...funny how every time we turn around we get more info regarding whether or not coffee is friend or foe...now we get the 'why'. hehe.

Wood- sounds like you had a super weekend . (sorry I was slow to get here to the deck) Just been busy, all good here) Your bike ride and almost 'run in with a deer' wow...CRAZY! But you rode 20 miles! good for you. I am still trying to ride the stationary bike and I can tell my body is starting to remember this. So far , 5 miles one day, 10 he next, every other day...and I seem to be holding up just fine. Next is to take 'it' outside.

Kay-Oh gosh...tummy fighting back. Yep, prob too soon...and ya know...I hate to say this, but as we age, gotta take more care eh? Sounds like you are seeing some great views. No camera...well, that does have advantages...now you just get to 'take in the scenery. Take care of that tummy!

Mary- hehe...yep, Dead rats are a real treat. Gotta love em. I have just afew more peppers out back, so this weekend might be the last rats of the season.

Choc- I got up too to look at the moon. I first was up at 1:30 and it was so bright outside...CRAZY. Then later the blood moon/ hunter's moon...amazing. It was mostly clear...a little fog haze, but mostly just moisture int eh air resulting in a reddish blurr...but really nice.

Trail- Howdy! Welcome to the deck. Not sure we have met. Yep lots turning brown. What is Konza???

Been crazy busy like I said...My neighbors left for a month and I have to hand water (Their dripper system broke before they left)...lol...and yesterday it defiantly dipped below 90. Of course, this always happens when they leave...heats up.
I also awoke on Sunday Am to go out back and fine vermin had dug in 3 of my raised garden bed. Huge digging...in my potatoes, peas and cauliflower. I was so upset I almost cried...lol.
But, I attacked the problem, cutting back a huge climbing rose And removed any place they could make a nest for winter. They are likely racoons, squirrels, possums or skunks...or all of the above. I most suspect grub hunting vermin like coons, skunks since I smell skunks regularly. OK...so I lost 1 cauliflower plant, several potatoes and a few peas. I added more above netting and every night since I am OK.

But the fun part was while I was out Sunday at dusk, 'buttoning up for the night', I had turkey vultures stop by in my huge redwood to roost. They are HUGE! Crazy. They were quiet. I was busy with the netting and saw shadows/light changes. I looked up and saw them all (maybe 20-25 of them), trying to land in my tree...I watched for a few minutes, remembered to OMG...Get the camera, ran inside and scared them off running inside. So, I missed the pic.
Kay-see...sometimes we are just meant to enjoy the moment.hahaha...(I know you know)

I did some research last night and I suspect they were migrating south from Canada or Northern US. We have locals who stay...but apparently there are migrators who fly from Canada to as far south as South America,

Anyhow...HAppy Wednesday.
Get out and enjoy.

Wood- Thanks for the coffee.

Wood... I'll join you for morning coffee! (Actually this will be my third "mug-o-joe" this morning.... I'm not only a choclaholic, I'm also a "caffeine-a-holic!")

Watched part of the lunar eclipse this morning... Couldn't see the "full eclipse" though because by then the moon had dropped behind the trees that surround my house

Finally getting some sunny fall weather after many days of cold & windy rain... Hopefully will get some outdoor chores (and maybe a hike) in today

Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone!

My world seems reluctant to show itself this morning wrapped in a shroud of fog. Although since I don't have to go anywhere for a few hours, I enjoy the obscured view. A lone grosbeak sits on the feeder seemingly watching me at my computer as I sit here watching him, wondering why he's only here in the spring and fall. I wonder where he goes from here?

Thankfully, the coffee pot just signaled that my cup of Joe is now ready and I can complete this process of waking up. Pour anyone else one? It's strong, hot and very aromatic!

Life is good!

The Konza is turning brown, trees are turning color, air is beginning to be a little more crisp. Fall is upon us and it just adds another dimension to hiking. Yes, the photo opportunities will be more vibrant in reds, yellows, and orange. Will begin tomorrow and Wednesday with a trip on the Konza among the bison.

Was out on my bike this afternoon (did 20 miles - windy and hilly!) Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a large dog running along side of me. Turned to look at it and my large dog turned into a doe. I applied brakes and it cut right in front of me! Almost got run over by a deer! Another life adventure!

Kay... yup, they keep ending up in the spam folder... I keep marking them as "not spam" but doesn't seem to solve the problem... I think you're right, it might be happening because I'm using my mobil phone to check emails and go online (still trying not to use my "real" computers until I'm sure the "hacking" problem is solved... my new billing cycle starts on the 11th of each month so hopefully by this weekend I can be back "on line" for real)

Just keep swimming!

A couple more thoughts, Choc, and then my "tech support" (or lack therof) is done! Could the notices be going to spam? that's happened to me before, not sure why! Or could they be going to a different e-mail than the one you're checking? It does sound like the mobile works differently, I don't have that, so can't say what's going on there, but maybe that's the problem....

Wood, you are right, the dancing was great, and the drinking abundant! And probably too much rich food as well.....my tummy is fighting back a bit today. Hopefully Larry's good cooking will fix that right up! We walked up to the top of Seneca Rocks today (were going to climb, but I just wasn't feeling it, so Larry took pity and we just hiked to the top, and had some great views of the countryside and hills with all the changing leaves (just wish one of us had remembered the camera! emoticon ) It's a good thing, since about an hour later it started raining! We'd have been at least coming down in that, not my favorite way to climb!

Mary, sounds like you are becoming a dead rat aficionado! Hope you get your friends on the healthy eating bandwagon.

Wood... Sounds like you've had lots of fun this week! Gotta love that!

Glad you're building a crackling fire! Definitely need it here... Been cold, windy and rainy for the past several days here... I finally had to "give up" and turn my furnace on to take the "chill" off the house (was trying to wait till later in the month to use the furnace but Mother Nature had other ideas!)
Hopefully the weather will warm up a bit this week and I can turn the furnace back off for awhile longer

Our trees are really starting to show fall colors now, but all the wind and rain is making the trees lose those leaves pretty fast! Still very pretty though... I think Fall is definitely my favorite season in spite of the "wacky weather" changes!

Is it time for some warm cider as we sit around the fire Wood has going?

Hey Deckies!

The end to another great weekend!!! Spent most of the weekend at our last dance/camp trip of the year! Great people! Great exercise! Great fun! See I told you it was great! However, I'm afraid the large amount of exercise we got dancing may have been totally unbalanced with the amount of social drinking we did both nights! That sort of happens at our campfires! LOL! Then this afternoon we went to our granddaughters softball game. You may remember that we arranged pitching lessons for her for her birthday. They're paying off big time! Not only did she pitch well, she drove in the tying run and then scored the winning run herself!!!!! Yep! One proud Pop!

Maui - Funny, I never thought of fall color in your area. I just assumed it stayed green there (or brown thanks to your draught). Our color is just starting to get really nice. The next two weeks should be beautiful. Went down to 37 last night. (Nice campfire weather.) Supposed to go down to 35 tonight.

I love the fall!

Kay - Sometimes taking the long way just adds to the adventure. Haven't been to the Smithsonian in years. Need to put that on my list again! Sounds like you were with me: great people, dancing and drank and ate too much!!! Was fun thought wasn't it!

Try again Kelly! I need an update!

Mary except on these social events, we too have learned to eat a lot cleaner over the last couple of years. Makes a difference!

I agree totally Choc. It really pi**** me off when my computer gets hacked into or I pick up on yet another virus that gets passed all of my "protection"! Just think what these guys could accomplish if they put their talents to positive use!

Snow - You know I miss you. Right? Just sayin!

Putting a lot of pine on the fire tonight because I love to watch those little sparks fly when the pine tar pops! Smells good too!

Life is good!

Kay... Yup, the box is checked for "I want an email sent"... And for some reason my "deck" page doesn't have a button for. "Subscribe to this post" so I can't click in that (I used to see that button at the top but it's not there anymore???? (Maybe it's a new format being used for Spark mobile aps? Anyway, very frustrating not to get notices and then find out just how far behind I am here on the deck!!! )
I've been having some technical problems with my Verizon data plan (going through WAY too much data WAY more than usual... Turns out my internet modem got "hacked " & I had to get a new one with a new ID & password) so I haven't been using my laptop or desktop computers much lately until I'm sure the problem is solved (waiting for my billing "cycle" to reboot to make sure new info & data are correct)... Hate it when some jerk "hacks" my account or anyone else's account! What a pain this has been!!!!!

Good morning deckies!

Golden silk spiders are spinning their giant webs - it's a really cool sign of fall around here - very "Halloweeny" emoticon - we don't get much foliage change...

Kay - sounds like a great trip so far (except the blister) - extra walking is always a good thing!

Choc - I've been wondering where you've been!

Kelly - bummer that we didn't get your post - send another when you have a minute!

Maui - I picked up the Salt, Sugar, Fat book from the library yesterday - I figured out a couple of year's ago that if I was going to lose weight the first battle to win was at the grocery store - I would take pictures of the whole foods in my grocery cart and text them to a friend who started this journey with me - unfortunately she still eats way too much processed food and orders way to much take-out and is still overweight & having health issues - she'll be on the girl's trip in a couple of weeks - I'm hoping the book will help me convince her (and a couple of the other girls) to eat more cleanly - but it's a fun trip so I can't be too "preachy" - I don't want to be a buzz-kill!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone! emoticon

Mary

I hate when that happens, Kelly! I bet it was a great post too!

Choc, do you have the box checked for "I want and email to be sent" that shows up when you add a post? Or, in addition, hit the "subscribe to this post" when you bring up the topic. Sometimes the box gets "unchecked" when I add a reply, and I stop getting notices....it sure is frustrating when that happens!

Ate and drank a bit too much last night, but it was great seeing so many folks out to celebrate! Also, new shoes, not the thing to walk in in DC, got a nasty blister on my heel....hope that doesn't interfere with tonight's dancing!
