Evening Deckies!

Choc- wow...I am glad you got those outdoor lights up already too! The weather is a turning!
The blueberry muffins were amazing! Just right and soooo moist, not too sweet. It's like you made them just for me! One of my all time favorites! Blue berries don't grow so well out here. One of those things I have to buy.

Jo-Hot chocolate too...another favorite! Tis the season for sure. I made fruit cake , 3 kinds, and we have been munching a tad bit every day! Haha... maybe they were supposed to be gifts...but here we are eating them!
I do stuff like that...silly me.

Kay- 9:30 o the slopes sounds perfect to me. Yep...winter fore sure here it seems...in the 30's here over night. Low 30's tonight.
Yes...the project is quite something. I know I am working, cause my hands and bad knee have to hurt in a long time and this week woke them up for sure. They are better today...so this is good. Whew.

Today hubby and I went and got our tree! Yay...put it up, decorations and everything...haha...worked all day. So Christmas songs ll day, lights...everything...I am a much happier camper.
We are not yet done cutting stone out front which causes much icky dust...so...not wreath or outdoor lights yet! But once the sti=one is done I can put up my blue lights. My front window has all paper snowflakes I hand cut, and we hang blue lights around the porch...it feels freezing cold and wintery this way...hehe...
Snowflakes are up..

So, now feet up, and relaxing a bit...yay...
I am ready for a hot tub soak too!
Kay- you making hot toddy's again????

Yum, homemade blueberry muffins, and from hand picked blueberries! I'm not going to pass that by! Choc, my ride was quite cold, we're sitting around mid 30's here...but I bundled up pretty well.

Jo, I may fix myself a hot chocolate today...I've had a Godiva packet in the cupboard since last Christmas...time to heat up some milk and drink that up!

Maui, what a project! You do need to pamper yourself a bit, glad you are taking care of those hands....the race against the weather for sure! We're supposed to get some rain/snow later in the week again. Hope it hits more at the ski areas, the snow is sure starting out great this year!

Speaking of which we got in a ski yesterday, I made it higher than my first ski, so I'm feeling good about that, and it was a beautiful sunny day (still cold!) no wind to speak of. We got there early (for us) around 9:30, and the trails were great. I had a dinner with some former work friends on Friday, skiing on Saturday morning, then a friends birthday party on Saturday night....I'm ready for a relaxing day of just hanging out at home!

Maui... OMG! I'm exhausted just reading about all the work you guys are doing in your yard!!! But sounds like it's going to be absolutely beautiful when you're done!

Kay... Brrr...getting too cold here for bike riding! Low 30's and 20's predicted for this week with our first snowfalls (that are predicted to "not melt") ...
Glad I got all my outdoor Christmas lights up last week!

Trailwalker... it's definitely a hot chocolate kind of morning! I've got a big thermos of the hot brew and some home made blueberry muffins for everyone to munch on (blueberries I picked at a local farm just this past summer).... enjoy!

Happy December 3 Deckies!
Woohoo!

Jo- Yes.....trying to take care of me...haha...VERY tricky right now...we are racing the weather.
Today, 2 post holes though unimaginable roots...haha...it's gonna be rough. I'll take photos of the hole prior to cementing in the posts. These posts will be the support for the arbor.

The walkway and patio stone cutting and fitting dod not go as fast as hoped yesterday...haha...broken blades, its like fitting a puzzle...whoa...really SLOW.haha.

I got my snowflakes up on my front window...nothing else yet.
My hands feel like rubber..hahaha...

I am drinking my cranberry juice (Natural dietetic) to keep fluid out of my joints. Taking my healthy oils to help keep inflammation down...

It really is a happy holiday for us...this project has been slow...but its happening. Feels like a gift!
Oh ...did I mention the flies??? My huge truckload of compost with manure. I have flies in teh house! hahaha...the out front smells mighty fine too!
Merry Christmas eh?

Kay- A Hot Toddy! Wow...great idea!
I bet you are nippy this morning! We are cold down here...
Yoga, bike riding...whoohoo! You are making it happen!
What's 'on deck' for this weekend?

And...with all the folks leaving your dept...who is doing all their work??? Wondering about that...

OK...frost was on the ground this morning...but it's warming up...should get to 62 today and less windy than yesterday.
Let these post holes begin! Digger bar, axe, hand axe, root cutters...oh yes! This will be fun! Hubby and I take turns...he does 3/4 of the work...but I help!

Happy Saturday Everyone!

Hey, emoticon Captain! Just in time for the ski season too! emoticon Yippee!

Choc, nice job on those decorations! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Maybe Snow will stop in a put up some twinkly lights around the deck! I haven't started at all, but did put on some Christmas music at work... emoticon

Kelpie, nice that you can stop by, you do put out the best breakfasts! Even if it's just coffee... emoticon it's much appreciated!

Jo, hope the rain lets up so you can get that deck lit up!

I made it to yoga this morning...rode my bike in emoticon and brrrrrr was it cold! But my tire light had come on in my car last night (as I sat in a 2 hour traffic jam-this NEVER happens in Reno, makes me appreciate how it usually is) so I didn't want to have to deal with that on the way to work. Larry got it all taken care of, so we should be good for this weekend. We're putting the ski off until Saturday, but since I'm off tomorrow, I think I'll hit CrossFit early before we head down the hill.

Have a good evening all, is anyone pouring tonight? I could use a warming beverage in the hot tub, maybe a hot toddy? emoticon

Yes... emoticon Captain!
Of course we remember you.
Jump right in...let the journey continue!

Deckies- wow...sorry I have been up to my elbows and knees in mudd and dirt and work!

The front yard project in underway...and let me tell you...we are working hard.
My hands and knees are complaining...
The ice has had to come out! I have avoided icing for much of he year (I think...lol...can't remember)
Oh well...this manual labor combine with the weeds the rains have brought...plus holiday cooking...I need to get my act together!
My hands are waking me up at night! Argh!
Anyhow, not complaining...haha...honest...just the facts.

The sand for the new little sitting patio (That will be under a redwood arbor with a native California grape growing on it...) went down already this morning. The sand for the new walkway too. ;)
The first stage of the irrigation system is in , and we put a mountain of compost on top and tilled it in. yep...work work-work! Tomorrow we may have the flagstone delivered. I am using blue stone its called ...getting excited...but oh man...sore.

So, when I am missing here...just know until this is done...I mam trying...hahaha...hands at times won't let me type.
Pics will happen when we are done...another couple weeks...but our goal is to get these plants in so they can benefit by the rain.

Kelpie- winter coming...yes!

Choc- new carpet, tree up...holiday decorations... :)
I am putting my snowflakes up today.

Jo- Colder for you too...rain...yes...I want my decoration up too...wow...might not happen but for my window snowflakes.

Kay- OK...you sound like you are back at it with PB! Woohoo!

Hello, All! I've been inactive for over two years now, so I don't know if any of you remember me, but I'm back and trying to become more fit through activity again.

I suffered a major/minor (depending on how you look at it) setback last year when I was diagnosed with achilles tendinitis. It meant I couldn't hike, ski, or really do anything physical for a year. Now I'm on the mend, and looking forward to a great ski season.

I am in my early 40s, moved our family to Vermont from NJ last year in pursuit of a more holistic lifestyle, and love the outdoors and nature. I am an adaptive ski instructor and love to hike. And I got a ton of weight to loose so I can be more fit, better enjoy the things I love, and live a long life surrounded by my kids and loved ones.

I think that about covers it.

Hi all... been busy last 3 days putting up my Christmas tree & decorations inside the house, and today (because we're having an unusual November "heat wave" of almost 60 degrees) I finished putting up my outdoor lights ...
Let the Christmas holiday season begin!
emoticon emoticon emoticon
I think we need to start decorating the deck too! Let's start with the tree over by the fire pit!

Whelp, it's been cold, but dry here, I do hope it warms up a bit, but then I suppose that's what long sleeves and sweaters are for!

I got to Budokon yoga this morning...it was nice after a week away! I didn't notice a difference in the floor, but maybe that's a good thing, it would be hard to yoga on a stinky floor!

Jo, enjoy the quiet!

Yeah! emoticon We're supposed to have that later this week, but it was cold here today. Even a little precipitation...I couldn't figure out if it was light rain or snow...but either way, the sidewalks were wet. All the Saturday night snow has melted, so at least the driving was fine!

Been hitting some PR's at CrossFit lately, my back is feeling better, so that may have something to do with it!

We're planning on getting in another ski this Friday on our way down the hill again, I'm getting together with my former work pals for a retirement dinner (2 of them are retiring soon). Then we have a 60th birthday party for one of Larry's college buds the next day. Not sure if we can (or want to) sneak another day of skiing in...

Good to see you drop on by, MLO! Anytime, we'll keep your seat warm (and it may move from time to time, it could be on deck, by the fire pit, in the tapas bar/woodshop, near the volleyball courts, by the waterfall, up on Ben Frien...you just never know!)

We had a nice dinner with the neighbors last night, kind of Thanksgiving 2.0. Their son and DIL are up for the holiday, so it was nice to see them too. And then we got a little snow on the ground this morning...just about an inch, so I imagine it will melt here soon, at least I hope so, my 8am walk around the block was a little icy! I need to find my yak trax!

Jo, hope you get a more relaxing day today!

Greetings from DYSFUNCTION JUNCTION!

Just consider me one of those "friends" you meet at your favorite Pub. You know, sometimes she is at the bar and sometimes not. But glad when you see each other.

Just caught up from 11/10 to current. I posted just before Halloween, I think? Note that some new members have subscribed or returned to the Hot Tub!

Usually, I've found that about 2 days after XMAS SPARKPEOPLE explodes with activity. I've been a member since October 2006...YIKES! 10 years. Been to goal a couple times and now attempting a return to that healthy action.

CHOC...Glad to read that your experiment with rehabbing your abode is finally coming to fruition! It is such a challenge as I well know after the similar investment.

MARY...tracking is such a personal choice. I have used SPARKY, MY FIT PAL and FITDAY. My Fit Pal was most comprehensive IMHO.

Thanksgiving was ...um, er, uh...acceptable at our house. The turkey had run a Marathon as I tried to eat from a leg. Yup, that was me at the end of the table chewing same bite for 5 minutes then spitting out. Sorry I used cloth napkins. Lol

Last Outdoor Adventure was Nov 7th...think I bounced in here with a short report? Bear snarled at us on a trail walk? Let's just say I haven't ran that fast backwards in 20 years.

Adult beverage on the deck tonight is a Polar Cup Plus. That would be fresh squeezed lemon and lime juice along with Trop 50 OJ and a splash of Titos. (That is the "plus")

I may have more time to post. Mamasan fell 3 times last week. Up until then I went to the Office at noon and left her alone until 4PM. Now, she can't be alone so we have paid caregiver and in-laws to swing in here while I dash to work, hopefully 2 days? This is going to be crazy since I am Treasurer of our Company and some things have to be handled by me like Invoicing and paying bills!

ooooOOOOMMMMmmmm

But, I will have a bit of time to engage in structured work outs and maybe even get home maintenance and Mount Washmore handled during daylight hours. What a concept!

Over and out for now...save my seat!~mellow

I need to get a longish walk in soon....while it's sunny! I think we're supposed to get a little snow tonight, but right now it looks nice out, if a bit cool and breezy.

Just took a turkey enchilada casserole out of the over, leftover's from dad (and a few other ingredinets....) hope it tastes as good as it looks! I roasted tomatillos and onions for the sauce.

Kelpie and Jo, I guess those GK's are keeping you on your toes!

See you all at the hot tub tonight! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Skis are off, and I'm ready for the hot tub! emoticon

Well, I won't dive in quite like that, but it sure feels good after the brrrrrr skiing! emoticon beautiful snow though! Hope this is a good omen for the season...

Thanksgiving was nice, the whole family was there, even my nephew drove over from Monterrey with his roommate (after dinner was over, and right after my youngest sister/nieces/husband and my mom had all left) so it was nice to see them all, even if not all at the same time!

It was a short trip, but the roads were good, and traffic was pretty non-existent, so I'm happy with that.

Hope the rest of the weekend is wonderful!

Morning all, loved all the things we are all thankful for.......

My gd is two today, and whilst I am sorry I won't be with my blood family, I will be looking after Jacques gd (or possible two) when the others are working on the new flat, getting it ready to move into. So not outdoors this weekend, but busy in town.

In the meantime a bit of relaxing in the hot tub, with my morning coffee.....

Anyone to join me?

Have a great weekend, on or off skis!

Happy Thanksgiving Deckies!

Gratitude for so much...

1. I am Thankful for my family and friends...Love makes the world go round!

2. my health, my physical health, mental health and psychological health...my goodness , I feel so blessed.

3. The great outdoors, the mountains, oceans, gardens ..all of it! I read an article this week about getting outside. It stated, no only does it improve brain health, but those who spend time outside live longer, healthier! There ya go!

4. The arts, music especially. So nurturing.

5. This complicated, diverse world /place we call earth. Hopefully we humans can learn to appreciate it, and care for it better.

Happy Thanksgiving to my amazing deck friends. All of you bring gifts galore to the deck. Thank you.
Back to cooking!

Become the change you wish to see in the world.

Happy Thanksgiving for those celebrating today! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I'm also thankful for:

my health, and the ability to be active as I get older...
my family and friends near and far (virtual and "real"!)
the way we can connect with people we have never met all over the world, bringing us closer to people we would otherwise not even know existed.
that I will be able to ski tomorrow!
that I can be thankful for all different things, deep and thoughtful, as well as silly and frivolous

And the turkey... emoticon

Royal Gorge opens tomorrow....so excited to get to ski after the feast tonight!

Kelpie... great challenge! Five things I'm thankful for:
1. My family, especially my parents in heaven who loved us and taught us to be kind to others
2. My friends, here on the deck and in the "real world"
3. My new home (especially the new flooring project that FINALLY got finished, LOL)
4. My health, survived cancer twice, survived a mini stroke, have 2 "robo knees" that allow me to stay active, (and hopefully an ulcer that's healing) all that doesn't sound like "good health" at first, but the key word is "SURVIVED" and still active!
5. Finally, I'm thankful for our beautiful world of nature with all the wonders we get to view and enjoy!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone... Choc

I have to leave for CrossFit soon....but have to answer Maui's questions...

favorite Thanksgiving dish, probably the dressing if it's done well...I'm also a fan of the dark turkey meat, Choc! Give me a leg! favorite pie? probably pecan, but since it's so rich, I usually go for pumpkin, which is close behind. Although I did recently see a recipe for pumpkin pie that had pecans on top, a match made in heaven for me!

Maui... was fun chatting with you today! Your phone call definitely brightened up a cold rainy morning!

Carpet was finally installed today! (Vinyl kitchen flooring was put in Monday) My flooring renovation are done and look great! (Will try to post a couple photos tomorrow) Boy am I glad this project (with all its delays and hassles) is finally over!!!
emoticon
Hmmm... favorite Thanksgiving dish? Probably dark meat turkey (with the skin), and the dressing! Growing up we also only got to eat black olives on holidays, so that has to be included just because it brings back childhood memories LOL!.... and fave pie is a toss up between pumpkin with whip cream or apple with ice cream (guess I'm gonna cheat a bit on my "bland diet" on Turkey Day)

My sis is taking part in the Detroit parade tomorrow... she's going to be one of the handlers for the giant balloons (this year her costume is a toy soldier)... when she's done we all meet at her house where her friend is cooking the turkey, and the rest of us are bringing the side dishes (beans from my garden & a couple pies from me)

Wishing everyone a great Thanksgiving holiday with lots of fun with family and friends!

Hey Kelpie-

Ah...baking! Yes...here too...Love baking and all cooking.

Busy day here, last day to prepare for the gathering.

Pies, table, place card wreaths from my rosemary.

Oh...amd I have a mountain of sod and dirt on my driveway ...hahaha...That's ok. It's time to get this work done...The rain has made it even possible to dig!

I am tired...but...feeling grateful.

Question for all Deckies...
What is your favorite Thanksgiving dish?
What is your favorite pie?

Me, it is so hard to choose since I love them all...(I cook so I get to choose, hahaha)
But maybe my tropical yams.
And pumpkin pie.
Yep.

I've made some baked goods that turned out fine...but this one was a dud! I think my oven may be problematic, I usually turn it up higher than called for to compensate for the altitude, but then I probably should have paid more attention to the consistency (and did the toothpick test!) before I took it out the first time. It definitely needed more time in the oven. Lesson learned!

Only one more work day before the long weekend... emoticon

It should be pretty quiet at work...there's practically no one left to make any noise! But I've found lots to do, so at least that will keep me out of trouble.

My poor apple cake was a minor disaster. It started out as a bundt cake, but when I took it out of the oven, not only had it overflown the pan, but it was underdone, and fell...so I put it on the cake plate, but it was way too sad to leave like that, so I put it in a square dish and back into the oven...20 more minutes than what was originally called for, and I still don't think it was cooked all through....but at least it tasted OK. I won't be repeating that recipe, Martha Stewart can keep it! I hope the butternut gratin I'm making for T-day turns out better!

Choc, glad the kitchen looks nice, like everyone else said, hope you can put the ulcer out of your mind for now, you are being looked at, and we're all pulling for you!

Jo, sounds like lots of snow! Bet the kids had fun making the snowman! emoticon

Maui, I don't think we got quite that much rain, glad you did!

Kelpie, hope you had a good day at work, see you at the waterfall!

Great news about the floor, Choc, not so great about the ulcer.......and you know what they say, don't worry, cos it causes ulcers! Talk about a non sequiter. Might be time to dig out that shawl

Jo, brrr..... it was like that last week here, but it has warmed up again.

Maui, busy as ever. keep inspiring us!

Mary, did you try the muffins? Both, what else do you use the extra sourdough starter for?

Kay, not too quiet at work?

Almost time for me to leave, so i'll set up the breakfast bar....... Porridge and bacon and muffins, and coffee, lots of coffee. Whilst I am really heading off to work, in my imagination you can find me by the waterfall.

See you there

Maui... the kitchen floor was put in today (looks AWESOME!)... the carpet gets installed tomorrow and then I'll FINALLY be able to move furniture and plants back where they all belong! Will be nice to have the house back in order!

Saw My doctor today... he's doing another endoscopy on me on the 19th to see if the ulcer is improving & wants to do more biopsies because he only took 1 small sample the 1st time (he said the ulcer was so big that he couldn't get more samples) ... bottom line, he's can't be sure that the ulcer's not malignant until he does more samples (Sigh, so now I get to wait and worry that it might not be "just" an ulcer...Always something to worry about)

Yup on going to my sister's for Thanksgiving... she is actually going to be in the Detroit parade handling one of the huge balloons (she does that every year) ... so one of her friend's will be cooking the turkey at my sister's house & her other friends and I are bringing other parts of the meal... I'm in charge of a bean casserole with beans from my garden, and also the pies (have to admit those will be store bought, I'm not a very god pie maker, LOL)

Hope everyone has a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving and can enjoy the holiday with friends and family.

Good Morning Deckies!
Yes, it's still morning here in CA.

I have chores , and clipboards of lists and more...
BUSY week here.

But first, Kelpie, thank yo for the coffee. Perfect for my break, time to put feet up a bit...
I read your blog. Thank you my friend for posting. We will understand of course, and send lots of love your way.

Choc- OK...so...how the saga today? You must really just want to get this done, right? I hear you...sometimes...we just want things to go our way. But yes, so pleased the tummy is feeling better. so today is someone coming out to assess?
Are you going to your sisters for Thanksgiving??

Jo, Oh my, I hear you about loving the gkids but getting exhausted. I don't have any nearby...so I don't know. But I have a couple friends who provide regular care...and wow...they too speak of fatigue. But... Brain health...that's a gift!

Kay- Wowza...we got rain! Buckets! How did the storm do for you?
I think all that cooking was a grand plan for the storm.
Back still behaving??

Mary, have you tried sourdough English muffins????? My goodness , my new favorite way to use up starter. Easy peasy.

OK...me...it's gonna be one of those weeks...haha...
you know as they say, "Ya gotta make hay while the sun shines' ? well, after the last storm hubby and I worked digging out redwood tree roots.
Then, now we have another soaker...today we are house cleaning for T Day, and doing sod removal...2 pick axes can do good work after a rain. Wow...
and the lists are everywhere for getting ready for Thursday....haha...we can do this!

Luckily I am one of those people...you know...lists and plans...so that helps a lot!

Sooooooo, breaktime s over!

It had got cold, but has warmed up a bit here.

Coffee?

I'm finishing the last of my correction, then paperwork, as I have no classes this morning.

I'd like to get out a bit too.

Smoked trout sounds good for breakfast, maybe with some cream cheese and Maui's fresh baked bread? (and capers?) although IRL I've got oatmeal with bananas and pears and walnuts...and a little bit of coconut.

Today's project will be baking the caramel apple cake, I've got garbanzo beans cooking, and will bake the butternut to have the puree for my gratin for T-day. Larry says they have chain controls over the pass! I'm guessing it will be cleared up before we need to drive that way. And, yes, we have ski passes...

Ok, off to read Kelpie's blog!

I'm not getting outside today, as I have a ton of correction to do.

I have blogged about the past year or so, I think you'll understand my absence better if you read it. It's a long read though.

mmm, smoked trout. emoticon I was eyeing the whole (cleaned) trout at the grocery store last week....just didn't know if Larry would appreciate trying to cook that!

Jo and Choc, hope the snow doesn't trouble you too much, maybe it will be just enough to be pretty? emoticon And Choc, sure hope the project gets done by Tuesday, you've waited long enough!

Maui, what fun, a trip to SF! I love Fisherman's wharf, fresh crab sounds wonderful!

Mary, hope the game was a winner! emoticon

I'm on a cooking spree this weekend. I'm going to bake a caramel apple cake (Martha Stewart recipe) tomorrow for the last of the outgoing employees on Monday. I found out Monday was actually going to be his last day (I had thought it was Wednesday!) so I'm happy that worked out! I've got steel cut oats w/ apples and pears in the oven right now, will be breakfast today and for the next few weeks as well (I freeze the leftovers), my neighbor brought the apples from her tree the other day. I'll use a few for the cake as well. I've also got a butternut gratin to make for Thanksgiving (well at least start, I have to bake the squash so I have mashed butternut for the gratin, which I can put together on Thursday). Also, a kale and barley soup, which just sounded good...it's getting to be soup weather.

Hope you all have a pleasant weekend in store!

Good Morning Deckies!

Kelpie and Choc- Thanks for the hot tub visit! It's hard to out into words how much I enjoy this time, relaxing with you...Such good Pals.

Choc- Wow. What a journey this project has been! Ack! I do know these projects seem to never go smoothly...but sheesh. On the bright side...I am super glad your tummy is feeling better. Keep being good now! I think the hardest time to be good, is after we start feeling better...just sayin. ;)

Kelpie- Yes the museums, a nice change of pace. My joints needed a rest a bit...hubby and I have be doing LOTS of manual labor on our little property...trying to get the front yard work done and get the new plants and trees in before the weather gets any colder. But we do need rests too and I can feel the break helped. (God plan right before the Thanksgiving weeks business)
The weather was amazing while we were in SF too! It was cold and rainy before and after our visit...haha...Grand luck!
How'd the sophro meeting go? Gosg, isn't this the way? Life's balancing of the ying and yang. Emotions ! Once we let them in, they can create a flood at times...I am so glad you have Jacques. And, yes...smoked trout! I remember. ;) Hugs my friend.

Mary- OK...Game report? Are you free from all that smoke?? It's not getting down to your area is it?
Good thing the weather is shifting and hopefully put all those fires out.
And are you cooking for Thanksgiving? Any specialties??? I am already at it...family will be gathering here. Fun week ahead. Will Mom and sister come your way?

Kay- well...looks like a real storm! Real snow on its way! You going to buy a season pass?
We are getting some sprinkles soon, then a real rain this afternoon. Yay!
We picked figs today...Super late for figs...another long long season. Sounds like may of the ski resorts are opening up!

Jo- I hear you about the retirement thing. Money is quite a driver/anchor. But keep the hope alive. Step by step...you will get there. And this time with the grandkids must seem overwhelming, but what a blessing too. Such cuties. You know I have read many reports that when a grandparent cares regularly for grandkids, the brains of the grandparents age better than all other peers. Kids benefit too...Having said this...I really hope you will get that place in the basement of your own...soon. Hugs your way too!

OK...today...finishing some turkey broth for my gravy (Make ahead makes Tday easier!), bread, more food shopping, haha...not easy to get tit all in! It's a staging process!

Happy Saturday everyone!

Still room in the hot tub choc? I could do with a relax and a chat with a friend. Good news about the ulcer, fingers crossed for all to be ready for Thanksgiving.

Mai, wonderful museum visiting, it's been a long time for me.....

Mary, how did the playoffs go? Home team supporting I trust! Team work in so many areas.

Jo, enjoy the weather. And then enjoy the snow too. Very wet here, too wet.

Kay, busy as always, even on spa days. Do take some time for you.

Coffee and consistent breakfast, then I'm off for a hike to Ben Frien, anyone want to join me? After the hot tub of course.

In reality heading off to a sophro meeting, we have them once a month. Wondering if I'll be able to keep it together, as it does tend to bring down the defenses, and let the real emotions out.

Jacques is smoking trout with his partner in crime, Seb. I'm looking forward to that. I have a ton of correction to do.

Have a great weekend all.

74 and sunny today... supposed to be in the 30's and snowy this weekend!
CRAZY weather!!!
emoticon emoticon
Still trying to get my flooring project done (aka "even started")... have gone from first plan of hardwood flooring getting scratched to now carpeting in my living room, dining room and hallway and vinyl in the kitchen... THAT was SUPPOSED to start yesterday, now has been rescheduled for Monday and Tuesday! In the meantime my stove has been disconnected since last Saturday, furniture and plants all moved into bedrooms, old carpet partly pulled up (from when the hardwood installers were here looking at the subfloor) ...
This whole renovation project has been a 2 month long frustrating nightmare!
At this point I just want it "over" with so I can get my house put back together!
(If that actually DOES happen this Monday and Tuesday I'll definitely have something to be thankful for on Thanksgiving!)
emoticon
On a positive note, my ulcer issue seems to be improving so I'm also thankful for that....

Ok, I'm done whining... anyone want to join me in the hot tub?

Just keep swimming!

Goodness...almost let the day get by without sparking...

Long bike ride day! Gorgeous weather...most of the smoke is gone!

Tonight boy's school hosts a playoff game for the first time in school history! They've made playoffs the last couple of years but never a high enough seed to get home game. Well sort of...the field we play on (a rec center field very close to school) doesn't meet state standards to host a playoff game so we're playing at another school closeby...at least we don't have to travel to another town...

Gonna take doggie for a quick walk then get ready for game...

Pura vida!

we had snow flurries off and on all day, it was quite amusing looking out the office window and alternately seeing the flurries or blue skies and sunshine! None of it stuck though, thankfully!

I'm off today, it's my spa day...but I'm heading to my morning yoga soon, and I have a doctor appointment this morning as well. And I need to stop by work to say goodbye to yet another co-worker who has had enough is is leaving! (that 2nd out of 4 this month...) My department has turned into a ghost town.

All this handy work going on, new doors, new showers, hopefully new floors! Inspiring!

Thanks for the coffee & breakfast Kelpie! emoticon emoticon Just what I needed to go along with my green smoothie this morning!

Sorry about the lost post Jo! always frustrating when that happens...

Hubby and I ripped out and installed a new front door yesterday...good teamwork...he had done the research so he was the leader but he's good about thinking out loud and when he did I was able to come up with some quite helpful suggestions...

OK time to hop in the shower and head to my tutoring "gig"...

Enjoy the day!

Pura Vida!

I am so lucky to have Jacques as a partner, he is currently redoing the shower downstairs, making it into a sort of wetroom, his own house, mind you, but it will be so much easier. The tiles on the fround are like pebbles, like my beach at home.......

Hope to catch up soon, meanwhile leaving out STRONG coffee, I need it, and various other breckie things.......smoked salmon and scrambled eggs anyone!

Very eerie out this morning - combination of fog and smoke from western North Carolina fires (although hundreds of miles away)...

Hey Kelpie! it happens...sometimes hard to fit posting in...look forward to your blog! emoticon

Choc - maybe a second opinion from another company or contractor just to make sure there are no other options besides carpet?

Jo - I hope you're feeling better!!!

Kay - wishing you rain!

yesterday I tutored and had projects away from the house...didn't get enough good stuff in me to meet my goals and didn't get around to tracking what I did eat...I'm still managing to stick with my program 3 out of 4 days and that's an improvement over where I was...and I'm on a 10 day spark streak - always a good thing!

Time to feed my boy and pack his lunch...it's so nice that school starts 30 minutes later this year - we don't have to get up in the dark...

Have a great day!

Pura vida!

Sorry to hear about your floor woes, Choc! I hope 3rd home improvement project is the charm? emoticon

The moon has been so bright and beautiful, so nice to think we are brought together by enjoying it!

The wind has picked up, maybe the storm is coming along with it?

I have missed you all, my own fault entirely, I will blog soon to let you know what has been going on in my life......

Butcher? Well, not a lot at the moment, more into chutneys and relishes. Made a chili and peach one that made J think and thank of your mango, Maui!

Took some photos of the moon, not great, but thought of us all, in different parts, all enjoying the same think, and that is a nice feeling. Friends separated by miles but joined at times in joy.

So let's be joyful, ladies, and any gents around.

Jo... thanks, I know about the stuff you're talking about... I actually asked the flooring guy about that, but he said that because this is a double wide modular home (two halves put together) over a crawl space that it wouldn't work because of the modular's construction ... only thing they could do is put in a whole new sub floor in living room, dining room, kitchen and hallway
... there's lots of tearing out and extra construction involved in that... plus extra cost in an already tight budget..,
I just don't think I can afford that on a fixed income retirement budget... I'm supposed to meet with the salesperson tomorrow to see if there's any other options..,I just might have to settle for carpeting throughout because that would "hide" the unevenness of the subfloor... not what I wanted but now that the old carpet is torn up I have to do something to fix this mess...

Choc not sure who you are dealing with but you can even out your floors
there is a (like cement) that you pour on your floors and it levels itself... Watch the HGTV channel... Mike Holmes .....

Loved the moon... really nice tonight.

Well I got the kids sickness ---drat have a fever and shakes so saying goodnight and getting into bed....

oh think someone asked if I was close to brother ---not really since he was married before I was born ...his kids are only like 3 and 4 years younger then me...

sorry I am not too social ... right now ... hope to feel better soon

Well… My home improvement project number two has now gone down the drain! They can't install a hardwood floor because my floor is too uneven…
And now the carpeting is all torn up because they had to pull it back to see what the subfloor was like! Waiting for the salesman to call me back to let me know what my options are.., I'm guessing that I'm probably going to have to go with carpeting and vinyl (exactly what I wanted to get rid of!)

Disappointed and frustrated... no wonder I have an ulcer!!!

emoticon Nice surprise this morning - compressor finally kicked on and fridge and freezer are working again! I'm not going to run out and buy lots of frozen stuff just yet!

But I am going to make a big pot of Italian gravy that I had planned to make yesterday...

right now I'm going to enter all the ingredients so I can track accurately when I eat...

Off I go to my nutrition tracker...

Hey all!

haha Choc I didn't know that you were really a candle maker but know you are extremely crafty!

Jo - parades are fun when kids are that age but exhausting too! hope you are well rested!

Kay - we got our rain today - 1st in over a month, but I know you and Maui would welcome monthly rains so I'm not complaining - but it was weird not being able to walk or ride bike today - how quickly we get accustomed to a new normal - no moon waking me up - too many clouds!
Glad you enjoyed the moonlight & went back to sleep!

Maui - You're too modest - I bet all of your friends and your family consider you an amazing baker! I know I do just from your descriptions!

Always something - today freezer not keeping things frozen - luckily not much in there because I haven't restocked since storm (didn't lose anything - had coolers and took to mom's the next morning) - I told hubby we'd need to call for repair on Monday then went to grocery shop - fridge was working fine - hubby tried to fix freezer but not only was that a fail - I realized a couple of hours later that fridge not as cold as normal - luckily neighborhood club has ice machine so I loaded up coolers once again and our food is in the coolers on the porch since it was only 46 here today - should be fine. Such is life! I wouldn't have grocery shopped if I knew I wasn't going to have a fridge!

Enjoying our first fire in the wood stove tonight - hubby wanted last week but I told him he had to wait until temps were in the 40s! I think this is our first use of any kind of heating or a/c since Matthew - no rain but very enjoyable temps lately.

Hot tub for sure tonight - even better than wood stove at warming chilly bones!

Pura Vida!

Morning Deckies!

Jo- Hope you slept well and feel aught up a little on rest.

Kay- Moon woke me too! Haha , I got up to see if we had left a light on before I remembered it was a bright moon! Went out to gaze awhile. Eventually got back to sleep, but still was glad I awake to witness.

Rain may indeed be returning...if not Wednesday for us...the following week a lot maybe...we will see!

You know I have never actually seen myself as a baker...haha...just cook stuff.
But last night before bed, with extra starter mixed my dough...this morning made English Muffins . Welp...maybe I am a baker.

Thanks for last night everyone.
Very healing after a hard week.
BTW- I plan on heading to teh hot tub again tonight. :)

The moon was very bright when I woke up around 2:30ish...glad I was able to get back to sleep, but the room was bathed in moonlight, really pretty.

Count me in on the deck party & hot tub! We had our first "below freezing" temps here last night & supposed to have the same for the next few nights before it "warms up" to nights in the 30's & 40's again....

Definitely want to watch for the super moon (thinking a view from the hot tub will be perfect!) 🌝⭐️🌜⭐️🌝

Maui... floor project was "supposed" to start today but they had to postpone for Monday because they had problems finishing up a job they were already on
.... so plan now is tear out old flooring Monday & lay new hardwood floors Tuesday... just a two day job (I hope)
.... then I have to move all the furniture and plants back where they belong. Looking forward to getting this done!

Party on the deck tonight (and maybe tomorrow night too!)

Good Morning Deckies!

I have bread in the oven baking, breakfast.
Sourdough starter cinnamon waffles with sliced apples sauteed in butter with garden apricots, yep...good start to another hard working day.
Apples are Arkansas Blacks, Yum. Beautiful.

I must say hubby and I have gotten PLENTY of hard work done this week...lol...LOTS!
We have been pick axing out roots from that redwood tree that was removed. My goodness! We have filled out green compost containers of ours and our neighbors...and we have barely begun. This next few weeks out to prove to be interesting. But really I cannot wait.

The fence repair is currently standing and have not heard for the neighbor since Tuesday...a quiet patch...not necessarily reassuring. Could be good Could be bad...but...we have number close by and a plan. So that helps a lot!

Mary- Hi there! Glad to know your son is uncasted and playing sports again. The young heal so quickly. I have been walking every morning and we are in the 50's as well usually. I have to put on a light jacket for the first couple miles!
I have missed you too! Sorry I have been soooo tired. HAd a rip to my son's this week as well. He had another rough spell, but this is how this roller coaster will go.
Seems I lost a LOT of sleep this week. And then a lot of yard labor to fill...LOL...Last night I slept like a happy baby. Great for brain chemistry.

Kay, Mary, and Jo...all of us,
Yes...tracking. For me I go though spells. Especially if I start gaining...right now I am too heavy but not gaining. A loss of about 15 would be GREAT!
Mary, I am like you...I try and pack the early part of the day with macro and micro nutrients, protein and complex carb.
(Lunch today has yam, swiss chard, shrimp curry..)
I like to weigh food as well, and my kitchen scale never gets put away. It lives on the counter.
Made graham crackers again yesterday...my hubby sure does like his treats. This helps hold him off.

Jo- How are you holding up? Emotional week for you too. Hugs. Been thinking about you ...a lot to process. Were you and your brother close even though far aprt in years? (I have a daughter who is 10 years younger than my oldest son...and they are the closest of all the kids)

Choc- Exciting! New floors. I love my one new floor. Just our bedroom got new floors, but we redid the old hardwood in the old part of the house ourselves...lol...sanding away.
How long will this project take? Carpets all gone???

Kay- Sorry about that headache...ack! But your ride sounds like is was a good cure with all that sleep. How'd your back feel doing that?
riding is such a great core workout...hope back stayed quiet. Good test!

I have a long list ahead today. (Not doing pick axing today...my wrists and hands need a serious rest, hubby too) So we will removed the tomato plants and work out back for lighter work today. There is always plenty to do!

Hugs all around!

How about the hot tub tonight???
It's been awhile...who's in?

Good morning!

Went out for a short walk earlier - my phone says it's 55 but felt like the 40s to me...quite brisk!

Kay - I'm pretty diligent about making sure I get credit for every mg of potassium I consume when I track! (aka obsessive) You're right - spark items often don't include K - when that happens I go to self nutrition data to figure out the K:kcal ratio and enter K as a separate item on my tracker - another peeve of mine is that grams aren't always a choice when entering food quantity - I like to weigh - so things like sweet potato I've made notes for by entering these as items in my favorites - "sweet potato 100g=90cal=.65 c cubes"...I don't always track but when I do I am pretty obsessive - but I did take yesterday "off" - I think if I can manage 3 out of 4 days I'll be in good shape!

Jo - I have to work to get enough potassium - I just did a search to remind myself what foods have high potassium to calorie ratios - thought you might be interested too so here it is...

Kay I too get frustrated with the food tracker.. I try to track my potassium and magnesium --+ iron now but always says I am under --- I agree think the foods do not have the nutrients tracked ..

Cool cool day here for our Remembrance Day Service -- felt bad for the WW 11 war vets out in the cold...

night everyone

Yeah, it was nice to get out on the bike! emoticon

Choc, sounds like lots of work, I bet those floors will be well worth it! emoticon

Mary, I found the spark food tracker has lots of items that don't report potassium at all, so you are probably getting more than you think....I used to add my own because most food labels don't have that on there, but most foods have some. I don't know why that really used to bug me about the tracker! But still, it sounds like you are making really healthy choices if you are hitting your goals early! emoticon

Jo, glad you pointed out those new emoticons, makes me want to go in and see/use them! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi all... just got done spending 2 hours moving furniture, plants and small odds & ends out of my kitchen, living room & dining room (and cramming all that into 3 bedrooms)... have to clear everything out to be ready for a crew to come in tomorrow to tear out carpets, laminate and vinyl flooring to be replaced with hardwood flooring on Monday ... definitely got my exercise doing all that tonight! ... tired & ready for bed now so I'll have to catch up on posts tomorrow

Night all emoticon

Great job Kay!

I rode for a couple of hours yesterday but no hills here so you got a much better workout!

3rd day in a row I'm weighing and tracking my food...if I hit my potassium and fiber goals early in the day with my first 700-800 calories everything else (macronutrient ratios, etc...) seems to fall in place...so far so good and feeling a little better already...

Have a great day!

Pura Vida!

Well, I pushed through the fatigue, and we went on the bike ride, 3 hours worth! It was a new trail for me, just west of Carson City (that's the capitol of NV, in case you are wondering), but Larry had done it before. They had bells at each end of the singletrack for bicycles to warn hikers (and perhaps animals?) that we are coming, so that was fun! emoticon emoticon I walked a bunch...par for the course! Especially on the steeper hillsides with narrower trail. But I'm glad I got out, and I sure did sleep well last night! Over 9 hours! emoticon

I'll be headed to yoga in a bit, hope you all have a wonderful day!
