Massage, sauna, tub soak...all sound quite lovely.
A treat still ahead of me.

Kay- I appreciate how you take care of yourself. :)

Kelpie- A tub with lavender...so so nice. Relaxation at its best.
Good idea , plan ahead for our reward ahead of us. :)

How will I love me today? Not feel negative, be gentle with myself...but have to go slower. Yesterday was too much. Hard to take really. The red raw sandpaper look was back on my wound.
Last night when hubby got home to look...he said "what did you do today?" Hehe...
Bandaged back up, and fewer steps today. I tried sitting on it a bit yesterday too. So, baby steps. Are ok.

Jacques keeps saying he'll dye his hair.....actually, maybe he should, then he'll realise just what a bind it is, and why I am choosing to see what it's like "silver!"

A very lazy weekend for me, had a long soak this morning in Jacques tub, which is indoors, however, still very nice with the lavender and bubbles.

Meditation after yoga sounds nice Kay....

Right, why don't we start thinking of little treats for ourselves when (not if) we stay in LMS?

Guess we all have our vanities!

Had a massage and sauna on Thursday, nice...and been doing the Yoga Journal 28 day challenge to "boost willpower". I'm not sure I need that, but the challenge is really nice, yoga followed by meditation, and so far I've been sticking with it (except one day, I just didn't have time), and enjoying it.

A little secret - for several years I colored my beard. The hair on my head is very dark and my beard used to be almost black, but alas, the beard went grey long before the hair on my head, so I took the advice of the women I worked with and used Just For Men. It was simply too big a pain because it grew out too fast and I was always coloring it. Funny thing then though is that my students thought I had a toupee because my hair didn't match my beard and also because my hair is VERY thick! Fortunately for me, my hair is still mostly dark and is still thick. Got lucky there!

I haven't dyed my hair since I moved up here, a year and a half ago...Can't say it's pretty, but it is easier!

Got a massage tomorrow (and a sauna) looking forward to that!

Kelpie- Absolutely!
OMGosh, yes. This of the chemicals you are now, not exposed to! I made this decision too. I went colorless several years back, then Snow added a little highlights over my gray, before my PA trip a year ago.
But zero color, less stress, less time, no chemicals to absorb through skin or breathe...yup, Many layers of self care.

The only hard part, is Gary shaves his head and keeps all his gray gone...lol. Next to him, I think...hmm..maybe I need to shave my head too. Hehe...not going to, tempting though to go very short.

Yes...self care!

Kay- yoga. walk time.

Kelpie- walk...

Very nice ladies. Self love...important concept.
Yesterday, I called an elderly man friend. He had a stroke 18 months ago and lost his r side and needs 24 hr care, but is home. It helped me feel better, to keep him company. I also spent much of the day fighting with the insurance company....many calls. seems to be our nations way, cause i remember when Choc went through this too. You get cancer, have surgery, and then have to fight the insurance company...sheesh.
Today, taking care of me is my job. I have been 100% compliant as a patient. Now, to help my spirit...hmmm...I read, watch movies, visit with my kitty who has decided this 'new way of life' is the best...I huddle under blankies a lot since it's seen so cold...haha. And she sits keeping me company, complaining when I get up. So, I will endeavor to find a new way to feel better, not get 'down', while waiting.
I will tell myself, good job. :)

Glad you stopped by, Wood, you should come over here more often!

Kay- Yes...must need the sleep. Weird. Maybe this will be my clue, when I require less sleep...

Kay-Shopping, planning ahead, creating tasty food you enjoy, knowing it holds what you need (not more), best way to love yourself.
And it has so many levels of making you feel good about your choices and leading directly toward your goals. Yes...well, done!

Wood- I am very anxious to see Les Mis. we have have several cycles of Les Mis-mania here in my home. I know, you and I have spoken in the past about family, children, and music...my older son had piano lessons from age 5-18 and became quite accomplished. For personal enjoyment he would pick up sheet music for his fav movie Broadway show. For over a year we heard a LOT of Les Mis when he was about 15...nice memory. Glad you got to go see the movie, I am hoping it'll still be in the theatres when I am allowed to sit that long. But...I WILL see the movie.

Embracing things that bring us joy, build our confidence and trust in ourselves...self love indeed.

You know, I should visit this thread more often. There is a lot more to a healthy life style than just diet and exercise. Doing things that feel good to you, I believe, is very important. Yesterday, Luv and I went to see Les Miserables and it was wonderful. I felt inspired and invogorated afterwards.

Kay - is your hot tub indoors? Never knew that.

Life is good!

That is interesting that you are sleeping well now...good observation, and I'm guessing your body needs the sleep to recharge, heal, rejuvenate.

I did get to the grocery store, needed some things to make lunches for this week, but I suppose that belongs on the hard work thread! But then nourishing myself well is loving myself too...I made a spicy (more than I was expecting) chicken Creole from the SparkPeople cookbook. And a fish stew from another site. Will give me 6 more stockpiled lunches in the freezer! I'll have a different entree (all homemade) every work day this week, none over 400 calories! That's what I call pampered!

Ladies, I have to agree, rest seems not to be a highly rated part of a quality life, by many modern 'standards'. But...Like you said Kay, its under-rated.

Many people who know me, say, "Oh I know people with Lupus, you cannot have Lupus". But, I think well timed rest is the answer.
when I feel the pangs of fatigue...I respond straight away without waiting. I think it works.
I have also been shocked, that through this recover from cancer surgery, I have had no troubles sleeping.
Truly something for me to ponder.
I have suffered with sleep related issues for many years.
My common response...it work harder, get good and tired, then I will sleep.
Maybe, relaxation contributes to better sleep like meditation.

Foam rolling sounds good. I have been missing stretching. Its very hard to really stretch without being warmed up, and never involve pelvis or glute. Tricky business. I am sure, soon...and then foam rolling again. Yay.

Hot tub sounds lovely... a nice soaking bath will be very welcome, when I am allowed. Lavender...heavenly. I use French lavender soap. Love he smell on my hubby...hehe.

relaxing is underrated, sometimes! I'm taking a restful day today (will have to get out for some errands, but nothing strenuous), after the long ski yesterday, I need some rest.

Also some foam rolling would be good for the sore muscles too.

Yes, I always forget to massage my self, and its so important to remember and appreciate your body, so as not to take it for granted. Today I'm going for a long walk on the hills and give my body some well needed exercise.

Yes yes yes...massage.
Kay- so right...we HAVE to take care of ourselves...scaring is can be a huge culprit, I think its negative power is underestimated.

After my back surgery, (remember I was dissected from the front and back), I could feel teh scar tissue growing from the surface of my belly all teh way to my spine on the front. And on the back, yes, less tissue, but I became aware of adhesion growing there too. A huge part of my PT was to use finger, hand and elbows to break up scaring.

I think when we over do with exercise even , as the body heals scaring is ALWAYS a sub set. Massage is a critical, yet often undervalued tool in out kit of haling or strengthening.
Message away. Like Kay has said before...Its a 'good hurt'. emoticon
Kelpie- massage often...twice a day, break up that stuff! J can help yes????

Kay- Ya for foam rollers indeed!

Yep, we gotta take care of ourselves! Need some pampering too....I did have a massage last Thursday, got some of the knots out of my calf that were bothering me. Still taking the time every day to foam roll, and it's helping too.

I went to my first group session of EFT (tapping therapy) last night. I was a bit sceptical at first, but I have woken up this morning with new vigor and and a feeling of empowerment. You should try it. I loved my self my healing some old issues that were hanging on.

I actually felt better by the time I started in to work. I got in about a half hour later than usual, but felt fine all day, even with the minimal craziness they threw our way...Monday they want us to work overtime to get caught up, Tuesday they want us to send people home because the census is low, even though we're behind and not a census driven department....and we were already short one person who is off this week... emoticon

But, the short meditation helped, and today I feel pretty good, did my yoga, and will bike in and get my class tonight, I should be able to do a little meditation before that.

Sometimes that's what it takes, deep breaths...

I have a meditation app on my tablet, 4 minutes of a gentle gong sound, so I did that this morning. I'm not feeling too great today, but feeling better after that, I was debating calling in sick, but I think I can make it in.

I'm deep breathing at the moment, feeling that there aren't enough hours in the day, so taking my time to reboot myself!

yeah, where is Snow? She would be all over those rollers...

I did my meditation, 11 minutes before my gym class, it feels nice to just sit, listen and breathe.

LOL, yes, hair rollers, I think we need Snow here!

And I'll join you in the meditation practice, I've let my sophro slip a bit, I'm so easily distracted at the moment!

Do you mean hair rollers? Sounds like a great idea!

I had started a meditation challenge in July, and did pretty well, not daily, but close to it, and I have let that slip a bit, so I'm really needing to get back to it. That's my goal, (not challenge, since that makes it sound difficult!) to get back to meditating as near to daily as I can. I think even if it's just for a few minutes, it will help.

Hard work needs some fun to keep it going, so, here I am sitting on my rollers, not very outdoor, but great PT trying to get them in, and showing me that I think I am worth the time! It helps that I got lotso f lovely compliments over the wekend, and that sort of motivates me.

Sooo, after the pool, 3 times a week, home and pop in the rollers, and if I can, body cream too.

What are the rest of you going to do?

Yep, I haven't started this one yet, but Yoga Journal has a new challenge you can sign up for if you are interested in meditation. It starts July 9th, but you can sign up now. www.yogajournal.com/meditationrevolu

I'm going to try this when the challenge starts and see how it goes.

I've been doing the 21 day yoga challenge on this site too, but not daily, I just do them when I have a chance.

First post to this thread- showin' the self-love thing (I think) is the topic? Well taking "care" of myself by getting in the regular aerobic exercise weekly for several months with only a couple of misses is my biggest accomplishment!

Oh goodness, no posts here for a long long time.

I showed myself some love last night, by searching out the body lotion, and using it after my lavender bath. My skin has been very dry recently, when I'm being massaged you can almost here it sucking on the oil, so I'm showing myself a bit of TLC.

Not sure what I'll do today, but I'll do my best to think of something.

Yes, Love, probably the most important power on earth. So simple and yet so complex. ...and loving oneself can at times be the most difficult kind. We (I at least) tend to look at our weaknesses and then tear ourselves up over them. I suppose It's one of the biggest reasons that my friends are so important to me. They seem to focus on the postitive attributes of mine and that helps keep me less abusive to myself. Yes, I too love my OP friends!

Long time no post on this thread.......

The weekend in Sitges can be summed up in one word, love, so naturally, that brings me back here, and concentrating on how loving myself can help me to be the person that I want and deserve to be.

I'll be thinking/contemplating on that issues as I work today, and may come back and share some of my thoughts later.

Love all my spark friends!

hope you found something Frenchie, I have never been over in that area, so no help from me!

The move went well, now for the long, slow process of unpacking and finding a home for all my stuff. I'm finding that I'm still putting things in the "donate" pile, guess I wasn't sharp enough with that knife in the packing process...but I'm taking time and care to do it right, and not get into an overly cluttered situation, that just drains all my energy!

KAYOTIC -- good luck with the move! I hope it works out well!!

This weekend, I went kayaking on the Wildcat Creek in Indiana (just a few miles from home) -- made it all 14 river miles!! Next weekend, I'm thinking about a hike but I'm not sure where to to...does anyone here have a favorite weekend hiking area in/near Indiana?!

Man often becomes what he believes himself to be. If I keep on saying to myself that I cannot do a certain thing, it is possible that I may end by really becoming incapable of doing it. On the contrary, if I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning.

mmmmm blueberries! Sounds like you are enjoying life and the fruits of the earth!

Almost done with all the house selling stuff....will have to take some time to really do more sifting through my stuff, and taking care not to beat myself up over having to make more decisions on moving some of that stuff out...co-mingling 2 households makes for a lot of duplication, and I'm trying not to be so attached to the things that we let it get in the way of our happiness.

So - this weekend I finally went backpacking overnight for the first time in my life - tent and all - up in the Dolly Sods Wilderness Area. Saturday we hiked in, camped by a rushing creek (after having forded two other creeks on the way in - mind you, for those in the west, these "creeks" in the east would be called "rivers" in the west!). Hiked back out again Sunday, feasting on wild blueberries! Loving m'self means to be continually bringing things that I "always wanted to do" to come to pass - and enjoying life along the way!

Yes, that's loving yourself, nice walk at lunch, good for you!

We have quite the wind here too, it just drains my energy, but I did get in a run (I've signed up for a half marathon with my sister in October, so I need to get some miles on my shoes!) it felt really good, so I'm happy I got out.

managed a nice walk at lunchtime, windy, so not too hot....thinking it is good that I have started again, rather than how much further back I am now compared to a couple of months ago. That's what loving myself is, isn't it?

Prob no biking for me...but hey...

I was good to myself last night after a very long day working in the garden...had a nice long hot bath. It was cool enough...felt great. I am still sore this AM (back), but better that expected. Lots of stretching going on too, and I think I am making progress...yay.

I really am enjoying riding my bike in to work, it's so peaceful, and almost all downhill, now coming back home is another story! But it's a built in workout, so I can't complain!
