Yes, you can certainly do that; however, food sources of fiber are almost certainly better for you than fiber in a powder supplement. The aim of WW and SP is to make healthier food choices, not take more supplements. And in the end, the smoothie will have the same calories, regardless of fiber grams and points. You could boost fiber grams in everything to 4 grams to try to lower the points but you wouldn't be lowering your calories ... in fact, making a habit to lower the points by adding fiber might leave you eating too MANY calories. If you have difficulty getting in fiber or need more due to a gastrointestinal problem or other medical condition, adding fiber powder may be a good option. If you're doing it primarily to lower the points, though, ask yourself why. Maybe you just need to make better food choices.

But what if her smoothie didn't already have 4 grams of fibre to begin with? Can she boost the fibre count using a fibre supplement so that she can use 4 grams of fibre when she's figuring out the points value of the smoothie?

I've wondered if people do this myself...

Amy,

Your question is exactly why WW capped the number of fiber grams you can use in a point calculation to 4 grams. Whether a food has 4 grams of fiber per serving or 18, you count only the first four. People were adding fiber to try to lower the points of foods. Consider what your real goal is here... to lose weight by making healthy lifestyle changes. Yeah, more fiber is good up to a certain point. Trying to cheat or tweak the system by adding fiber so that you can eat more points or calories later... is that really going to get you to where you want to be?

AMYWILBERG,
Forget fibersure, buy a box of Fiber One bran cerial, put ahandfull in a zip top bag & crush with a rolling pin. Now you have the same thing as Fibersure plus a box of cerial for a little over $3.

Recalculate the smoothie using no more than 4 grams of fiber.

I made the smoothie recipe in the weight watchers book., each serving of smoothie is 5 points. If I add a spoonful of fibersure to the smoothie (5 grams of fiber) does it make the smoothie 4 points?
