I'm glad SunnyArizona is an expert, and gave some very good advice. Good for you Joan, to be thinking about how you can push your doctor's buttons!

Thanks everyone, especially SunnyArizona. I am on the call list. I did think about going to the ER, but there again waiting for 4 hours and who knows what they may or may not do. This is just very frustrating, but no way will I be dismissed by this doctor as if I do not matter.

Thanks again,
Hugs,
Joan

Joan, sorry your still have pain. That should not be. I agree with everyone. Get that second opinion and call them back and speak to his nurse directly and explain your situation. Get on that call back list when someone cancels......Please, keep us posted on this.....Praying for you.

Joan, DO let your Dr. know about the lack of being able to get that appointment.

I am an Ortho nurse, and TRUST ME, your problems with that pain are NOT normal.
If you can't get in sooner then go back to your current Ortho, and DEMAND an MRI of that area!!!! He is blowing you off without looking into this. Like it is NORMAL to have that pain...NO it is NOT NORMAL......HE needs to check this out PRONTO!

This situation is very frustrating to me. I want to hold somebody up by their heels and shake them a while. You have done all you can do to get yourself up and running again, and to be treated this way is unacceptable. I don't have a solution other than the ones already mentioned here. I 'd guess the emergency room might be my choice. If you can get yourself admitted to the hospital, somebody will have to see you. Maybe the hospital where the second opinion practices.

We learned the hard way that avoiding a hospital stay put us further down the road for an appointment than getting admitted to the hospital.

I do hope you find a solution. You've had enough pain!

Thanks everyone for allowing me to vent today. I have a call in to my Internist to see if she can recommend someone else. No way I can wait until October. My Internist's receptionist that called the surgeon and could not get me in until October 4, did tell me that she told their appointment person, ''call her (me) if you have any earlier cancellations." I am hoping that maybe if my Internist calls this doctor that even if he can't see me, maybe there is someone second best. I have to admit, I have never in my life been treated like this by a professional.
Oh Liz, the surgeon that did my surgery, his own mother passed away just the week before I had surgery. I even gave him my condolences when I heard about it when I was in the recovery room.

Thanks again,
Hugs,
Joan

Joan, that is awful..the health care seems to be getting worst.
I have a sister-in-law that has been waiting for a hip replacement now for a year, her leg/feet are so swollen.
But your surgeon needs to be reported. You don't have pain for no reason..ask him if that is how he would treat his Mother?
Maybe you can call to put yourself on a cancellation list...
Hope you get some answers and feel better soon... emoticon

Oh Joan my heart goes out to you. Pain is not easy to cope with. It is horrible to just be dismissed. I hope you can phone the get your appointment brought forward.

Or ... could you go to the emergency department of your local hospital and get it seen to? I don't know how it works there for you. emoticon

I would call the office of the doctor for the second opinion and see if you can speak to that doctor's nurse. If you explain the situation to her/him, they might speak to the doctor and see if there is any way to squeeze you in sooner. I have personally dealt with situations like this, from both sides, and it needs to be fixed. It is NEVER acceptable for a patient to remain in pain because of a doctor's dismissive and condescending attitude.

Ok now i'm ticked. There is a problem and it can't be ignored. He did the surgery and any complaints you have should be noted. Joan there has to be a minor problem with hip and he just doesn't want to admitt a problem. This will not do. You need to be whole to take care of your items and people. ughhhhhhhh......So where do you go from here? don't give up. There is a solution out there it just has to be found. By october it will be wayyyy too late.

Keeping fingers crossed for you. but your not going to give up on you either so the fix is out there.......

Facts do not cease to exist just because they are ignored."

I have a ''Joan story" for today. As all of you know that have been with this daily post of quotes and even sometimes information know that on April 16th I had to have a hip revision done. I'm 8 weeks post op now, and when I was 3 weeks out, and went back in to see the surgeon I told him of this pain I have in my groin thigh area. On that day his reply was, ''don't have an answer for you on that." I have to admit I thought that was odd due to 1. I don't complain unless I have a legit thing to complain about. 2. I did think, ''well, it has only been 3 weeks." So I began putting heat and ice packs on it, I used Ben Gay on it, one night my thigh hurt so badly I even wrapped it in an ace bandage, none of this has helped. So I went back a week ago today to see the surgeon for my 7 weeks post op visit. Again I told him, ''I am still have terrible pain in my groin, and thigh area, in fact I cannot get up from a sitting position unless I have that walker there to steady for for at least 2-3 minutes." My surgeon's reply was this....." I can sympathize with you, I can give you a hug, and I can write you a prescription for pain medication, other than that there is nothing I can do."

People you might as well set my hair on fire!!!!!!! I am so not a woman that takes to being dismissed like this. Thing that no one seems to understand including me is the attitude of this surgeon, the same surgeon that did the original hip replacements, plus my one knee that has been replaced, and he is the one that has done the two revisions on my hips. There was no, ''lets look further into this, there was no I don't know but we have to find out what this problem is." I still can't even drive due to I cannot safely or even fast enough move my foot from the gas to the break when need be, and we all know things on the road happen quickly at times. Kevin, Bob's oldest and the one that has been doing all my driving and errand running and taking me to the doctor, well he and his wife will be leaving in less than 3 weeks heading back to their home in Texas, so what do I do then? I even explained this to the surgeon and all he did was repeat his I can sympathize with you, I can give you a hug and I can write you a prescription for pain medication. I won't even tell you all what I said to him due to this is not a place for bad words.

So I went to my Internist on Monday of this week, told her of my problem and she said, ''we need to get you a second opinion.'' She referred me to an Orthopaedic doctor that does only hips, and my Internist knows that time is of the essence here due to Kevin leaving, so the office called yesterday and the EARLIEST appointment is for......wait for it....wait for it.....OCTOBER 4TH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah, just a little too late for me.

I am frustrated, I am in pain, I have Bob to care for, I DO NOT take pain medication, that is something too easy to get hooked on. So I am facing up to the facts but it seems my surgeon believes in , ''Ignorance Is Bliss."

Thanks for listening, I needed to get this out.

Make it a GREAT day.
Hugs to all,
Joan
