Thanks! I am still building muscle I am sure. The main reason I do weigh every day is because my scale measures body fat, muscle and water and its better to to that daily to get a more accurate trend than once a week. What I might do is make say Monday my official 'weight' say though but track everything daily and sort of discount the weight part! I am lucky that it hardly ever has gone up tho, I think because I am pretty consistent about what and when I eat and exercise. I think its going to take a while to get to 140, but on the other hand I look and feel great and would much rather it was slow now than at the start! Thanks for the support its much appreciated!

Anna, I've been stuck at 150-149 since the beginning of the summer but I know that I have gained muscle and my clothes are fitting better, maybee you need to take some time off weighing yourself everyday. Your body weight will fluctuate daily due to many different reasons. Don't be a slave to the scale, as long as you are gaining muscle and loosing fat the scale may not show any change.
Remember we did not gain the weight overnight, so it won't be lost overnight.
Stick with your plan and mix it up every now and then to keep the body guessing.
Pam

Anna,
Hang in there. It's frustrating when you plateau. I think just about everyone has hit one and broken though. Just remain faithful to what you know you need to do. Oh, and think positive. When I was at a plateau it seemed I broke it when I finally had the mindset that I was going to break it! You can do this!

Tracy!!! This is EXACTLY my problem I think!!

Anna, I PROMISE you, if you keep exercising and watching what you eat it will happen. Sometimes it just takes a little while. If I were you I would just try and kick up my exercise a notch in some little way, maybe add an extra 5 minutes or maybe up the intensity a little during part of it.

I think its more my body because I have really been doing everything and really am not a comfort point mentally I REALLY want to be below 160.0 so its kind of ironic I am stuck 1 lb away. I really think its some kind of landmark weight for my body as was stuck here a long time after DD was born - and when the scales moved lets just say it was not in the right direction!! Maybe some cellular memory remembers this or something, I really can't figure it out!

Anna, I've been struggling with 170's-160's for two months now...for me I don't think it's my body's comfort level as the comfort level in my mind....I need to stop being so damned pleased with myself and the 50 pounds I've lost and focus on the remaining 20....but hey that's me....you probably are different or then again perhaps not. Thanks! At least I am at a plateau at 161 not 187 and gaining lol.

Its definitely a plateau - Day 5 now but eating more and not exercising did not hurt!! But I have broken through my previous mini-plateaus by resting then restarting so hoepfully this will help. I think maybe to get the next 21 lbs today I am going to have to calorie cycle. The interesting thing is I was stuck at this exact weight for 2 years after I had DD, so it must be some kind of comfort point for my body. Anyone else experience that? Weird!

I feel better today because after eating a LOT yesterday I was expecting to be more than 161.0! But no the same, it was very healthy food though, not junk.

Anna, you've dropped a lot of weigh so far...your body could just be adjusting. The body is a funny thing it gets used to a program and doesn't respond as well.....calorie cycling is great, I used it to break through a couple of plateaus, also do the same with your exercise...change things up there as well, do some totally different cardio routines a couple times a week.

And above all, don't stress about the scale not moving...find other ways to measure your progress. As we all know, sometimes life just doesn't work the way we want it to, but we have to keep on keeping on.

Hang in there, don't let frustration take root, you can do it!

Well I did up the calories, I don't think I am in starvation mode per se, I feel great and I *am* on my period so that could be a factor, but I do think my body has got used to 1200+ calories a day and I need to change things up a little, plus I may need more calories as I have built a lot of muscle and exercising a lot. I changed my goals and it still comes up at 1200-1550 for my exercise levels and everything, thats to lose 2 lbs a week. Anyhow no change but my fat was down 0.1 and muscle up 0.1 and thats probably 0.5 lbs of fat gone so SOMETHING is happening!!! I do feel frustrated. I am upping the calories to 1300, but not sure I will lose, or I may need to zig-zag but usually eat a little more at the weekends anyhow so do NOT want to start gaining! I am upset as I am so close to 159.9 and want to be there so bad!!! Day 6 of my period and not sure if things will start moving after it is over.

I think I need to work on my patience! I think I am frustrated because thats when I tend to throw in the towel and am doing really well so far and need to just breathe...it is my period still too so maybe its just that. I don't know how people handle weeks of a plateau though and I am sure my time will come!

I agree with Katherine, 3 days is not a plateau. You need to just keep focused and not worry about it!!! You could be retaining water for some reason.

You are doing great. Sounds like you are doing a lot of strength training which is great but as you know muscle weighs more than fat. So you could lose fat and be gaining muscle. Is that the kind of stuff your scale shows you? That would be cool. Do your clothes fit better? Do you measure yourself? You probably have lost a bunch of inches and maybe just not pounds. Don't worry you'll keep losing.

Katherine I do weigh daily, I have scales that measure body fat, muscle and water and like to track it daily. I know I have lost almost 3 lbs a week so far (and did post about if that was too much in the general message boards, but it is definitely slowing down now which I kind of expected). I think I am going to do more calorie cycling, and make sure I am getting enough calories. I am not sure how accurate some of the tracking is, for example if I get something when I eat out I have no clue and if anything over-estimate the calories to be safe. I hope its not a plateau, I know 3 days is not but since I was stuck here for such a long time (then regained the weight at a stressful time in my life when we moved and stayed with my SIL for 6 months) I am in a panic this is some kind of landmark weight for me!

Michele - I am doing 5 lb weights, I upped from no weights to 2.5 weights and every time I do it I adjust to the new weight in a few days! Yikes! I am very strong physically and have a lot of muscle. I can't do lateral raises with more than 5 lb weights tho but could use those for the lateral raises. I am actually really enjoying the weight training!

I agree calorie cycling is good, and changing up your exercise routines. But I don't think 3 days is a plateau. To safely lose weight you should only lose 1 to 2 lbs a week. So at the end of 7 days you may have lost weight. Do you weigh yourself everyday? I might be a good idea to just weigh once a week so you don't get discouraged.

I left a comment on your blog. I checked out your workout log. I think you are doing too many reps. What weight are you using? When I can do 10 reps easy I up the weight. Right now I'm doing 15 lbs for 8 reps @ 2 sets. When I can do 10 reps without busting a sweat I up my weight.

I think caloric cycling is a good idea, also.

Just my 2 cents,tho.

Thanks! I knew it was going to get harder and am glad I pushed through the first 26 lbs fast. I am just not patient though so this is a huge lesson for me! I think I am eating enough calories because I have been doing this much exercise all along, and then I started losing again in a big burst without changing the calories. I might start zig-zagging the calories again though. I always seem to gain then though! I wish I had plateaued at 159 not 161 though I hate to plateau right before a goal, my body likes to tease me I think!! Not to mention my scale!!!

Anna, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the more you lose the harder it is to lose....you actually burn fewer calories doing the exact same activity you did when you first began your program (hence the idea behind doing different cardio routines, keep your body guessing) Also double check your goals, with your increased exercise/fitness level you may actually need more calories.

Maybe eat a little higher in your calorie range, with the extra workouts your body may be holding on to anything it can because it's worried you're trying to starve it. Just a thought, and good luck! I've been gaining and losing the same 3 lbs for 2 months now!

I have been really working hard and eating at the low end of my calories and here I am at another plateau for 3 days. I know some people's plateaus last a lot longer and hope this is not going to be one as usually they have been up to a week. I am on my period on day 4 and that may be a factor but it was not the last time. I am not eating a lot of salt or anything. I just feel frustrated on Day 3 as I have been exercising well and eating very healthy. I know when I lost my baby weight before it was very very hard to get below 160 and I only did it once after a bout of stomach flu...so was not real weight loss just dehydration. Anyhow I was at 164 for about 2 years, occasionally 161 and occasionally 168. I was not exercising as much as I am now or eating as consciously and healthy, DD was nursing a lot at that time too. She still nurses a little, but is weaning so that may be a factor.

So I hope I can break through this somehow this time, as I am not sure why it was such a huge plateau before.

Any ideas welcomed.
