Be thankful for that. lol When it comes to his choice in tux, just remind him that everyone needs to look similar. I mean, you're not going to wear a long gown with opera gloves and have your bridesmaids in mini dresses. The same should go with the groomsmen. As long as the look is unified it doesn't matter how formal or informal it is. It is the two of you's wedding after all, you can "bend" the rules.

Thanks girls. I guess I shouldn't be too picky about the tails, at least I talked him out of the powder blue tux he wanted.

First off, just remember this is his wedding too. Yes, tails are a bit formal for an afternoon wedding. With that said, if your whole wedding is going to be a bit more on the formal side (lots of attendants, full length gowns, etc.), no one will notice. However, if he wears tails they all should. Or you could compromise. Has he ever thought of wearing a cutaway? It's a bit more formal than a regular tux but not as formal as tails (it is also the most appropriate for a traditional afternoon/early evening wedding) I do suggest not taking him to the store and having the sales person "set him straight." This tends to discourage his involvement all together. Good luck!

this is something i have totally left up to the fiance...ONLY because it is his wedding too...and i got to pick my dress...he should get to pick his tux. i agree that tails are a bit much for afternoon, but maybe this is something he ALWAYS saw himself wearing when he got married. good luck....maybe you can discuss it with him and see why he wants it....j

I agree with the others. I think tails for an afternoon wedding may be a bit formal. I like the idea of asking the store person what is appropriate since they are the 'experts'

I suggest going with him to the tux store. My FI listened to the store person who told him what is appropriate for our afternoon wedding. Most men do not really know what is appropriate, so either have your FMIL speak with him or have the store person set him straight. Good luck and congrats on your engagement.

Honestly, I agree with you, it won't look good, especially if he's the only one in tails. Never let guys decide what they should wear, lol...

My fiance wants to wear tails, but have everyone else in regular tuxes. We are having an outside afternoon wedding. I don't think it will look good. Any thoughts?
