Sodium is going to be off the charts today. We went for Chinese food at a new restaurant that opened in our area, and the lunch servings were HUGE. We both brought over 1/2 of our meal home with us and will reheat it for supper. But it's a god bit over 4000 grams for the day. But the food is fantastic !

Bob stuck mainly to the shrimp (boiled) and cocktail sauce. He loves shrimp so he was happy with that. He got some spare ribs too but found them too tough for him to eat. I had the wonton soup and vegetable fried rice.

I hope there's something your husband can eat that's not loaded with sodium. I worked in a hospital as a nurse and then in urgent care. We sometimes saw heart patients end up in the ER after eating holiday ham, Colonel Sander's chicken, or Chinese! It sucks. I love Chinese food and can't eat it anymore :-(

The sodium today will be off the charts as we are going out for Chinese tonight. Just what I tried to figure along with what we had for breakfast out had me at over 8,000 grams !!!!!!
So I'm not going to even worry about it today and just start fresh tomorrow.

There's conflicting evidence and no one really knows what amount of sodium a day is optimal. The American Heart Association changed its recommendations to 1500 mg daily for everyone. They used to say under 2300 for healthy people, less than 2000 for heart patients. Some sources say even as much as 3000 mg is okay for a healthy person.

I recently read an AHA Circulation Journal article from 2012 that said not enough study has been done to make any real determination. It did say that people with heart failure, hypertension, and or left ventricular (left pumping chamber of heart) enlargement should restrict sodium. So if you're in good health, you probably don't need to be too concerned about it as long as sodium intake isn't over the top. I have heart failure. As long as I keep sodium on the low side, I feel better.

I make my own soups, a big batch we can eat for a couple days, and freeze meal-size portions of leftover because I haven't found any decent low-sodium prepared soups. Besides, homemade tastes so much better and is far more economical. Also buy only crackers that are lower sodium or limit how many regular ones I eat, but that can be challenging sometimes.

A part of my added sodium has been because I've been having to use baking soda for Gerd.
But I got some more Gerd meds., so that shouldn't b an issue now. Hpefully now I can keep it under the 2000 grams. My weight is up 2.6 lbs for the week too because of the added sodium.

When I have too much sodium or eat late at night, it shows on the scale the next day or two. Drinking enough water and reducing carbs for a couple days before weighing helps me get rid of bloat. Maybe that'd help you too.

Some Sparkers say they don't dare have a taste of anything that might be a downfall, that they do better totally avoiding temptations. Others "bank" calories by eating less for a few days before an indulgence and/or exercising more. Maybe one of those tactics will work for you.

Don't give up. Keep at it! Old habits can take a while to change and might need changing a lot of times before they become habit. You can do it!

I would have been ok but we went to see friends and they had coconut cream cake and Bob and I each had a slice. That brought the sodium up a good bit. Before the cake it was under 2000 grams.
Kind of disappointed in myself. I decided to sneak a peek at my weight today knowing I'm supposed to hold off until tomorrow. And the numbers are really up there from the 1st. I'm up 4 lbs. So I'm not a happy camper, especially when I felt I was doing really well with my eating all week. Tomorrow is the "official" weigh in so we'll see what it shows then. I won't change my ticker until tomorrow.

Oh, those snacks can sure get ya. I can't have potato chips anywhere around. Sometimes I'll thinly slice potatoes and make microwave chips (lots of recipes on the web). That way I control the salt plus can only make small amounts at one time so that helps avoid eating too many. Other times my husband buys chips and I ask him to hide them where I won't find them!

3,589 Today. Much higher than I expected it would be. But tomorrow will be better.

I did something today I wouldn't normally do. I bought a bag of mini pretzels. I'm trying to watch the sodium but every once in awhile I want a crunchy snack that isn't a veggie. So I got the lesser of two evils ( pretzels vs doritos).

I've been eating a bowl of cereal at night as a snack thinking at least I was getting daily fiber but it's making the numbers on the scale go in the wrong direction. So no more cereal at night. Bob mentioned this morning I could still have my cereal, only have it for breakfast instead and have something small, like a yogurt for my evening snack. So I'll give that a try and see if it works better for me. I'm staying within my calorie limits with the cereal. I just think because I was eating it in the evenings, I wasn't burning it off fast enough so my morning weigh in reflects it.
