I guess the logical thing to do is check with your doctor. As I said, I wear compression stockings, so maybe that would help you, but you need to know why this is happening first. The stockings (prescribed by the Doc) are expensive- around $60, but last a long time, and I love how my legs feel now. I can go without, I have some "support" stockings, the over-the-counter pantyhose, that I wear if I'm wanting to look a bit more fashionable, and my ankles do OK with those now that I've got the sodium down, and I've lost a total of 140 lbs.. If I'm traveling, or sitting for a long time, I make sure I wear the compression ones.
Good luck.

Hi Donna, I try to stay under 1500mg of sodium a day. If the stats in my nutrition tracker are correct then I actually stay between 800 and 1200 mg a day. So the swelling doesn't make sense to me either. Strange, huh?

It doesn't make sense to me, mine are wonderfully slim now, but I also wear compression stockings, and if I don't wear them I do have a bit of puffiness. How low is your sodium intake? I keep mine between 1000-1500 generally speaking, except for when we eat out, then I have no idea what it is, but that's no more than once a week, if that.

Hi there.....I'm new to this team and really glad I found it. I've only been with Spark People for a couple months and my weight loss is very slow. I am on a low sodium diet trying to control my blood pressure. I was amazed to find how many foods have a large amount of sodium in them and have had to totally change the way I prepare meals. But gradually I have gotten to like the foods without salt and find the restaurant food to be too salty to enjoy. The question I have for you all is......I have found that I have swollen ankles more often now than I did when I was eating whatever I wanted. Does that make sense? I drink alot of water normally and that hasn't changed and I'm keeping my sodium below 1500 mg in a day but find most evenings that my ankles are puffy and tight. Any ideas as to what might be causing this? Doesn't make sense to me at all!
Thanks for your help,
Carolyn
