Well I really pushed it today, I did Callanetics and with all the rain again today couldnt get out and walk with Dixie so I walked with Leslie (dvd) Did 2 miles, I am a bit achy but I feel good, must be those endorphines folks talk about :) I hope everyone is having a blessed day.

Oh Charlie that is so sad about Mollie, it is so hard to loose a pet, they are so much of the family!I hope you find or have found a new fur baby to share your life with!
Yes Dixie is a Gods send. She helps so much on those painful days.
Well got my face cleaned (used a milk and honey mask today) facial exercises done, on to callanetics!

How are you feeling these days. I'm glad you have Dixie, she sounds like a special dog. I miss my Mollie. She use to walk with me too. Mollie was killed doing her job with the cattle a few years ago. She was a sweet Blue Healer.

Took a walk round the block. close to a mile. Dixie was wonderful. Had to stop a few times but we made it walking all the way. I sure do appreciate having Dixie there to steady my step and help me back to my feet. Smartest purchase this year, Mobility harness , she loves to help momma out and she is so good at it.

Love your animals as they love you, unconditionally. They deserve the love returned as they so richly give.

Love my fur babies, Dixie and Zeus!

I hope everyone has had a blessed day. Today I completed my callanetics routine split up in many small modules, if you ever thought you could do it, well yes you can :) We have storms moving in so the day has been a rough one for me. The nice thing about taking my time is that I only required a few moments at a time and for those few moments my form was as perfect as possible, my head and heart was in the "space" I truly was meditation in motion. I think to many times we go through our routines hurriedly and its blah blah I'm through yay... but to slow down and really feel what we are all about is so much more beneficial.

how often should I measure myself? not that it is a must, I am just curious to see the results and noticed that many ladies here do that.

Good morning Adina,
10/10 is very challanging, I agree :)

You asked "is it ok to brake the hour to, let's say, two sessions"
Absolutely! Break the routine up how ever you wish. I have even split Super Callanetics between 2 days,how ever you need to break it up is fine :)

You asked "what is the point in the pelvic rotation exercise"
The pelvic rotations work the front and inner thighs and of course pelvic floor. When you lower your bum half way you are supporting your body wieght with the front and inner thighs. Remember to move slowly and controlled. The more controlled your rotation, the harder these muscles are worked.

If you have any more questions be sure to post, I am copying these down to the questions and answer section so others may find them, excellent questions :)

Well, I had my first 10/10 session this morning, G-d I forgot how difficult it was!
I had two questions and hope that this is the right place for them:
is it ok to brake the hour to, let's say, two sessions?

Thanks Charlie ! Good to see you posting today! We are all so very busy its nice to take a minute and connect. I hope everyone has a fantastic day.. will post more later on..lots of love

Spent a lovely hour doing the basic Callanetics routine, taking my time, listening and connecting to my body , so relaxing and envigorating but still feel worked at the end of it all. That shows intensity :) now one to housework in a silent home. Sometimes I just crave the sounds you hear when no one is there....

It has been a while since I posted here, sometimes we get overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of what we set ourselves to do.Today I did my cardio Callanetics and I must say I felt really good knowing I was making a difference in my life.I look forward to posting here ,sharing with my spark friends.We have a new member today! It is so exciting to see Callanetics is still a vibrant practice we share. The comradity here is something I enjoy every day. I have excercised my body mind and spirit today, it has been a wonderful day!

Suzy, you did a great job. I know those are hard, I can do those but I still can't do the thigh stretch. I have to admit though, I never knew those 3 (the pelvic scoop, rotating the pelvic, and the figure 8) were for the inter thigh.

Finally got a session of Callanetics in today! Each time I do Callanetics I add the advanced movements to my workout. I do the advanced exercises for a particular group each time I work out. Today was inner thigh day, I did the pelvic scoop, rotating the pelvic, and the figure 8. Whew my inner thighs feel TIGHT!!!!!
I try to keep the workout changing a little bit each time I work out, to help keep it fresh. Next time will be the inner thigh squeeze on the floor and elevated.

Thanks Suzy,

I love being outdoors also. But, walking in tall grass barefooted, not so much in my yard. We don't have stickers but I have run over snakes while mowing before. I hurt myself trying to get away from them. That's why we have Guinea fowl (about 30 of them). They keep the snakes at bay and eat fleas, ticks, grasshoppers, and many other insects. Awe the country life in Texas.

I have seen that list and I do use it for gardening and horseback riding. It amazes me that riding a horse for 1 hour = 500 calories burned, cause it's fun even though you use more muscles than you think.

Charlie just keep moving and enjoy life. I fahve read that to be healthy diet is 80% and exercise is 20%, thats not really alot of movement. I think your idea is awesome. You should enjoy your day, movement should not be a chore, unless you enjoy doing the chore ;)

Callan said doing 10 in 10 1 or 2 times a week is enough, so aim for one day a week if you can, then do all the other things you want to do. Personally I HATE being inside with a passion. People wonder why I use a reel mower I tell them its the cut but really I like walking in tall grass barefooted..lol

Hi Suzy,

Well I guess I don't know myself as well as I thought. I can't seem to stick with any exercise on a consistent basis. I know I should but, I don't do it. Even with all my planning so I have decided to just stay busy at the things I want and like doing, like working outside in my garden or working with the horses or building and restoring things this spring and summer. I'll see how that goes.

I'm so proud of you for sticking with your routine. You have found what works for you and that is a wonderful thing.

Welcome to our new month, so glad we are midwinter, I am so ready for warm weather. I say this as my snow boots dry beneath the desk :)
I did an extended version of Callanetics today doing out to the side and bringing up the rear sitting and standing. I also reread the sections on arthritis and back pain in the Fit Forever book and took the time to check my form, I feel much less sore tonight. Hopefully we all have a wonderful night's rest...

Yes it has been a better week, :) I am so glad you relayed my story to your friend, as far as I am concerned Callanetics has kept me mobile where the Doctors said I shouldn't be.
Having a workout buddy is so awesome! You can help each other to keep motivated and that is very important.

So far this week I have done Cardio Callanetics monday and 10in10 tuesday. Today is early but I did get a short walk in and cleaned the bathroom, not sure if I will do Cardio Calli today as I had planned or 10 in 10 as it is not as stressful on the back ya know.

Well I pulled out my Forever Fit Callanetics book today and I read each discription before doing the movements, sometimes you just have to go back to basics ya know :) The results were astounding, of course. Word of the day FORM, it means the difference between an eh workout and an AMAZING one! Hope everyone had a fantastic day!!!

I finally have gotten in the exercise mood again on Monday Jan. 28.

I took a short walk and yesterday then I walked a mile Tue. Jan. 29 and did my 10/10 Callanetics with a friend for the first time this year.

Deana (my friend) has some issues with her back and I told her about you and how Callanetics has helped you so, she agreed to try it with me. I was so glad because, that inspired me to get start again.

Happy Tuesday! I got Cardio Callanetics done today. I really like how that flows as opposed to jarring footsteps. Its more like dance and I love to dance :)
I have been having problems with dealing with stress here at home, but I am going to work harder on that today. Smile more love more :D

How's everyone doing with their new year healthy year commitment?I decided to try to get some woalking in, inside so last wee I walked with Leslie's 5 really big miles. I managed 4 days of 3 miles a day, took saturday off and today I did Callanetics.Just did a basic routine, lots of long stretches, I definately felt I needed that!Thinking I may try cardio C allanetics this week, I dunno, just love that I have so many different things to choose from every week, getting bored is simply not a problem :)

Kind of bummed, family didnt make it but I worked out yesterday and today and I feel so much better in spite of the coold weather. The snow is beautifuly from inside the house, thats close enough :) I plan a meditation each night before falling to sleep, hoping it helps with sleeping all night, I hope everyone had a great day!

Today seemed to take forever, not really I guess, but it seemed so. I am doing fairly well this day, tho the weather is turning a bit bleaker, we have had some snow flurries, I am waiting for the other shoe to fall.
Today I did all the 2nd half of Super Callanetics and then added a few back and inner thigh exercises. I really dont care much for the inner thigh squeeze, hurts my lower back for some reason, does anyone else have this problem? I have substituted Lying abductions (?) works the inner thighs really well and I can keep a nuetral spine.
So what is everyone else up to?

Well, I guess I need to work on the Mind first. The Spirit is ready, that's what got me back here.

I need to make up my mind about the exercising and get started to get too the body! I just don't have the want to, yet. emoticon I know it will come if I keep eating the right things and stay here on SP and keep reading, that ole exercise bug will bit me!

Awesome Charlie! I am so glad you are joining in! As I see it a healthy lifestyle has to take in account a total lifestyle dedication! Today I was sore from yesterdays extended Callanetics so I took the day off and my nephew took me shoppig. It was wonderful to laugh and talk and walk with my famlily :) I am looking forward to Callanetics tomorrow, those stretches sure do help tmy mobility!

What a wonderful day today! It was beautiful out, very breezy, a reprieve from the cold. I started doing 10 in 10 and kept adding elements of Super Callanetics and before I knew it, I had a 90 minute session in!

Oh I love going through pictures! I have put most of mine on the computer now but there is something special about toughing a worn photograph, I don't know maybe I am just too sentimental :-)

I forgot to post yesterday so I will today, after a week of rain and cold, Monday was a breathe of sunshine, quite literally. I did 10in10 and although I was restricted by the arthritis flair up from the week before,I thoroughly enjoyed the workout. I just love the way you feel about your day and yourself after Callanetics, so peaceful.

Today has just started so will report on yesterday....I did an hour of zen pilates and then before going to bed spent another hour or so sorting through a box of photos. Wonderful to relive all the memories and to get them organised ...

10in10 today, got to keep moving, slowed down and took my time to add intensity, what a great workout!

Off to try a new class today.... not callanetics unfortunately but something called zen pilates - apparently combining pilates with the meditation etc from yoga. Looking forward to the hour of focused me time. The callanetics teacher has left the gym I go to so do it at home but never as intensely as when with a teacher.

I am starting the 10/10 routine again. Instead of jumping right in and wearing myself out doing the complete count, I started doing 25 reps of each and will work up to the suggested total.

Hello everyone! Well I got my daily walk in today, a whopping 2.74 mile walk! I am very pleased! Dixie is tuckered out, but I think she enjoyed herself as well :) I would like to follow up with a Callanetics routine today, back is rather ouchie, Callanetics helps that!
I read an article on intermediate fasting. The author of the article goes 20 hours before eating his first meal of the day. This is supposed to clean out your kidneys and liver and reset your system to burn cleaner.I am trying to build up to that point. I am realizing that I can get rid of hunger pangs with water for the most part.So building up to this 20 hour mark, I am at 14 hours right now. Yeah I am hungry but not lightheaded or dizzy as I was yesterday and as long as I dont fixate I can get my mind on something else. Yesterday my fast lasted 12 hrs so I think I am making progress . Hovering somewhere between paleo and atkins, I am determined to make my life as healthy as possible.I am going to stay in ketosys for now, I feel better and my back isnt giving me AS much problems as my bloated bread body was last week.

Got a session of Callanetics done!

It's beautiful today, Dixie and I went on a 45 minute walk, a whole mile, I am so proud and she was so happy to get out for some exercise. To follow up I did some callistetics followed by callanetics stretching. I feel GREAT!

I started tabata training this week. Tabatas are anaerobic and aerobic at the same time. Very demanding protocolin combination, I have used all the Calanetic stretches and a few of the exercises as well so its been a real challenge and lots of fun. Tabata is a training protocol in which you are doing high intensity work outs for 20 seconds and rest for 10 seconds. You repeat this 8 times, that is a set. If you are doing more than 1 set, you rest a full minute between sets. One set is 4 minutes and you will really feel it. :) hope everyone is having a great summer!

Walked today with Dixie, waht a nice walk. I actually made a fairly large on without too much pain. It used to bother me that I walked so slow, now, not so much, just to be able to walk is a wonderful thing!

Super C done today, I will be happy for tomorrow, I have been very sore all day, but I got in my session, I feel great about that. Today I turned down Chicken and dumplings... eesh... so I had chicken over broccoli and cauliflower, :)

Super C on Saturday, I added 14 pushups to the mix, I love it. We went to see a friends band play last night and I finally got to wear my tap out dress!It fit really snug and is oh so short, I got some great looks, hah not bad for 53!

Luckily the road I live on has a strip of grass and trees down the middle.I took Dixie up and down the blvd as it were, almost a mie but at least she got a change to stretch her legs a bit. To stay indoors and lie around must be hard on such a young athletic animal.Going to do my Callanetics today I think, I feel a bit better today.
I did 10 in 10 routine and extras for the back. I feel awesome :) Now to eat! Taco salad yum!

Hey Shari,I agree its so hard to exercise in the heat. I hope you can get back to it soon. The stretches are awesome, the bathroom is to the point I cant do anymore, the rest is for Greg to do, so now I can settle back and rest, start working out again slowly. Greg went to band practice tonight so maybe I can get some in tonight.

Thinking about your situation, there is a 15 minute work out, have you read about it? I can do a post about it if you would like.

Suzy, It is hard to exercise in the heat and humidity. I try not to feel too guilty about missing the Callanetics work out, I know I will get back to it when the weather isn't sooo hot and nasty. Also, I do try to do the warm up in the morning but those have slipped the last couple of weeks too.

Must focus on the last few pounds and keeping up with at least the warm ups and maybe do the stretches in the evenings. Don't you love those stretches, they are so relaxing.

Hope your back feels better and that the pain lessens.

OMG thats great Shari!!! I have been working on the house all weekend, with the storms I have had a lot of back pain so no work outs yet this week.I did get punched by the tree in the front yard this weekend, that was exciting :) Branch fell in a wind storm and of course I was looking up when it came down... Getting better, still got the black eye tho :)

Hope you have had a good week.. hopefully I will get some Callantics tomorrow.

I haven't done any exercises since Monday. Tues, Weds, Thurs, and today I was doing landscaping work, 3 hrs per day. I am too worn out from all the physical work to add exercises. I hope to get back to Callanetics next week!

I have lost 2 more lbs, that puts me within 2 pounds of my goal weight. So I am charged about that.

This is for Wensday, I did Super Callanetics, 2 hours worth... today I am not really sore, well maybe the backs of my arms feel a little tight but I felt so strong doing the work out, I really enjoyed myself. I love being able to tape my favorite shows and then watch them as I work out :)/

Not sure what I am going to do today, its very hot outside so I may do my walking inside today

Good Morning,

I have missed a few days of exercise, our cooler stopped cooling on Sunday, it was too hot to do anything but wait for the day to cool off so husband and son could get on the roof and fix the cooler. The indoor temp went to 95.5. Yesterday was better, but still recovering from the excessive heat. Today I have to do some landscaping work, so I will do the warm up exercises only.

Wow Shari you really got an early start! Great Job!
I had hoped to get more done today but on a good note Dixie and I took a good walk, almost 2 miles!It wasn't too hot so pretty enjoyable for the most part,plenty of spots to stop and sit under a tree and rest my back. Dixie got a bath today and we did a little shopping. Not too bad considering yesterday, the pain level seemed some what better. Though by the end of the walk my back was so done, even with the frequent stops.I plan to do 10 in 10 tomorrow and another walk if possible, that will give me 2 10 in 10's and 1 super , thats a pretty good week I think!

Was up a little after 5am, grabbed a quart of water and headed for the living room and did my 10/10. It is hard to get started, but the body loosens up pretty quickly and I get the work out done. I find myself with a huge yawn after the first set of the stomach work, then I am crusin' along.

Today was a GREAT day, I walked 3 miles with Leslie(5 big miles dvd) then after a bit I did super callanetics and even added some push ups! I'm not sure if I will take tomorrow off and just do some walking or get in a 10 in 10 session. I guess that depends on how sore I am from today :) \i really would like to get in 2 to 3 miles of walking in EVERY day , but we will see how my back is.

Shoot Shari gardening is hard work! that's great strength and cardio, I would make sure and track that on your daily activities!

Sure thing Shari, any thing to shake up the work outs. I have an article on my blog about triple add sets, I use this technique with Callanetics as well. For instance, do as many pulses as you can, rest 10 seconds, repeat, rest another 10 secs and repeat. What this does is totally exhaust all the fibers of your muscle and aids in muscle growth.

I didn't do the work out yesterday or today, I do make sure to do the warm ups every morning (almost emoticon . I have been doing lots of digging and hauling of compost for my garden, so I have gotten a work out, just not Callanetics.

Tomorrow I plan to get up early and do the work out.

Suzy, Sounds like you have a great plan, I might incorporate the fast/slow pulse to see how it works for me. Thanks for thinking outside the box.

Oh I understand about the heat. Thank goodness I have central air these days.I got my 10 in10 yesterday and mowed the lawn, today I have gotten my walk in,going to get my Callanetics in after I rest, that heat is rough today!

Well I ended up cleaning house all day, but I did stretch before bed and I had that mile walk, so really a busy day :)

Really shaking up the routine by doing full counts, pulsing fast, or slow, not doing full counts.. all these confuse the muscle as to just what is expected, so that is a very good thing. Besides it helps to keep the work out interesting.

Keep hydrated! Fruits veggies and water!

I have gotten up three mornings in a row and down the 10/10 work out. Some mornings I do all the reps, others only part of them, it is better than nothing. I am seeing great results this morning, pulling in, firming up etc...

Now if I can keep it up, the heat is wearing me down and sapping my strength and my appetite.

Yes I know exactly what you mean by the returning aches and pains. I ended up taking off saturday and sunday but tomorrow I will jump back into the routine.

Heat can be a real problem, you might do half the workout in the morning and if it gets hot on you, do the second half in the late evening once it cools off some.
Make sure and stay hydrated!!!

Hi Suzy,

I have run across Sandra on another site, she has loads of good information and help.

It has been so hot here, exercising is difficult when the temps are this high. I got up early this morning and did most of the 10/10. Will try to get up early every day while it is hot and get in my routine. I miss it terribly when I don't do it, noticing little aches and pains returning to my back and hips.

I got a session of 10 in 10 done today. Thats very empowering, truly. I also found a great Callanetics page on facebook rand by a certified teacher named Sandra. She stated if I needed something to refresh the program, just let her know.. sounds very exciting :)
