I an 6ft 1" and am 118 kgs i am currently 28 yrs old and am still playing rugby league.... have had a few injuries this year.... prior to this season i was doing strong lifts 5 x 5 which i am sure is the reason for my muscle tears as my muscles have become too short and tight. I am in no way bad mouthing 5 x 5. I have seen great results with my body and strength, 200kg dead lift, 180kg squat and 140kg bench, but i also tore a hip flexor due to bad form and sprained my ankle due to a freak occurrence when squating lol. But for any explosive running sport my lack of extensive stretching and muscle imbalance caused by squats with 5 x 5 has caused a problem ... my fault not the programs.... i have joined spark as i would like to drop to about 100kgs but am looking to improve my core strength and just overall strength with my body weight as the medium as i am having trouble with my ham strings and am just looking to integrate a good workout 3 days a week with my 2 nights of footy training and game day.... i am pretty onto my diet all ready except for beer intake :(.... i have just lost a little motivation to work out and do weights as i am really trying to get on the footy field ... anyways looking forward to sharing my journey and helping others .... Any one needs any advice im happy to try and help my fav exercises are squats, deadlifts and bench press..... but these are taking a back seat at the moment as I have come to a point were i want my body to be able to be strong using just my body weight and then and only then will or should i start trying to push my self with heavy weights again .... well on my legs that is anyway...

I've been trying very hard to lose weight and gain muscle, Around september of 2012, i'm not sure what went through me but i got tired of being obese, I went out and i started walking and then after about a month and a half i was able to run a full mile this is a big thing for me considering when I was in school and it was that time where we had to run the mile and got graded on it well i never ran the full mile so i was proud, anyway since september i've gone from 290 pounds to 256 At first i done really well with my eating habits but here lately i've been getting confused about what I can eat and what I shouldn't eat, this site has helped me a lot with what my questions were about food now all i need to do is keep myself from giving up which i've almost done, i do not want all my hard work to go to waste. I'm just hoping to hear of many success stories learn some tips and get some confidence in myself.

I was looking for a team that would help be specialize in strength training, and a team that could support when it seems that only women are trying to lose weight.
Motivation and fun exercises are things that I always need more of.

MCSHAW317,
First thing - CONGRATS on your becoming a father to be. Being a dad has, and is the BEST thing that has ever happened to me. And now I will be a grandfather in a couple of months. Can't wait for that.

As for coworkers and others who make fun of you, be assertive and tell them that it is unacceptable. Stand up for yourself. If you don't, know one else will. I too have been becoming more assertive to tell people to knock it off. I don't appreciate being the comedy for their stupid pleasure. It is like when you are kids, they find that one kid who won't say anything. I call them verbal bullies.

Be strong, we are here to support you, listen to you, relate to what your going through and will be in the future. We can do this together!

As one of the newest members to this group and one of the more younger gents, I feel like I need some extra motivation from this community. I am 26, 290 lbs., and my wife has granted me the status of a dad-to-be! I am really excited about becoming a dad, but I know that it is no easy task. I quit working out almost a whole year ago and put on an extra 25 lbs. I am tired of being FAT and having the BMI (Body Mass Index) call me OBESE for the bast 10-15 years! I am also tired of my co-workers, of my friends, and of my family making FAT jokes about me which I also have consistently laughed at! I am ready to be a better son, brother, friend, husband, and father to my children! If you guys could help spur me on everyday I would greatly appreciate it because sometimes I just need a slap in the face when I miss a day or two! Thanks! emoticon

Not much for posting myself, but working on it. I belong to other SparkTeams as well. I would like to hear about some proven workout methods, positive attitudes, and healthy meals that work both for filling you up and for burning fat. I used to be pretty healthy, but have let myself go to the point of weighing 246 pounds and needing to drop to 210. I joined SP the second week of January 2012, and I've only lost 2 pounds. Most of that was taking January to get my mind right. I've picked it up considerably in February and look forward to pushing myself in March. I'll gladly keep you all posted if it provides any kind of motivation. You can only change if you want to ....not a famous quote but a real life experience one. Have a great day and a better tomorrow.

Definitely want some motivation from others in similar situations as me. Seems like the majority of the population here is women. It's nice to hear from other men trying to lose weight.

Oh, and how about a new group picture that doesn't say 2011!

I am new and fear the "bro science" most weight and muscle gain programs teach as it never works except to add to my gut. Heavy protein diets have causes massive gains in fat for me from 175 to 225 in 6 months with a BMI over 29% not cool. Since that roller coaster I have decided to track my intake and just lift as I can it might take longer but it is not packing on pure fat. I do not take supplements to many bad ones that cannot live up to the package labels, and not enough available information on the ones that could work. I would like from my Spark Men Team real talk, geek level PT workouts that do not require becoming a gym rat. High protein foods that are proven to build muscle not just empty mass. Support because I am the laziest person on the planet(self title) My current stats are 189lbs 5foot 9inch, and no abs in fact sad truth I have never seen my abs not even as a kid, so before 30 I would love to see my abs, but my upper body mass is currently more important but I do not want "show muscles" I would prefer working muscles ones that will not disappear in a week outside of the gym. And of course any other information that would be beneficial is also very welcome.

Yeah...so I am sick of coming back here ever few weeks and typing "Hey, I'm back...again!"
I stepped on a scale and am at 250. I need to be at 200, if not 185.

I workout at CrossFit five times a week. I don't run as much anymore. I am 38 now, not the young guy I was when at 33 I lost something like 50 lbs with SparkPeople's help, encouragement. I am trying to switch back into more running, so that I run on Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday, in addition to the M-F CrossFit workouts.

I'm leaving Tuesday for a solo trip down to Jacksonville/Orlando and then I'll be tripping up to DC and NYC, back to NC on the 21st....going to be a challenge exercising, but I am going to try to get into the routine of logging my food again.

Back when I lost lots of weight I remember a caloric intake of 1300-1600 calories. I am looking and thinking that I need to be around 1300 now since I am getting older. We'll see.

I want this time around to be a serious attempt. I'm wanting to look great in (and out of) a t-shirt and shorts this summer (I own a beach store). Hell, honestly I want to see a six pack on myself before I die--one of muscles, not cans.

Sounds right! 10 days ought to be enough to get my body ready for something a bit more intense.

this is not so much a "men" thing.....I want a group of people who "get me." Frankly women don't share the same outlook or experiences. Even when they suffer through the same events men and women process them so differently it is not always helpful.

Hmmm, that made more sense in my head than it does on the screen. Perhaps I'll write more when I'm actually awake.

I've been on Weight Watchers several times, and it is all women! I don't relate to most of their stories and issues, and I think what would be helpful about Spark Men is sharing our own stories and issues.

In some ways, working with weight is the same for everyone, but is many ways it is not.

I would like to see more support oriented discussions in here, like there is in some of the general forums. Motivation - what motivates us, what happens when our male-style expectations of ourselves can't be met, etc.

Anyway, I'll try to start a couple of items over the next while and see how they go.

I am more of a lurker than a poster at this stage but what I scan the team posts for is encouragement and tips. Your post, John, about attitude adjustment would be an example of both. This weight loss and fitness thing is a slow slog for me and, as a newbie, I don't feel like I have a lot to offer others yet, but if I stay with it, I believe I will. Somebody used the metaphor of the elephant (emotions) and its driver (mind). This mind (mine, a learner's mind) still needs plenty of encouragement and tips in order to drive the elephant in a kind and deliberate manner. Thanks for your help.

Hello from SanDiegoJohn. I'm a new co-leader for our men's team, and I want to get a better feel for what we want as a team.

So, why did you join this team and is it what you expected? What's working and what isn't? What, if anything, would you like to see change?
