Likewise, Vegpunk. Haven't exercised since 8/23...was dipping into the high-170s, but am probably back in the mid-180s again. Onward!

Ouch! August was ugly. I spent all of my money and even went into debt $177 at Old Navy. I barely exercised at all either. So.... September....

Hey, VegPunk, good for you! Now that you are being honest with your treatment providers, you probably will find that you are also being more honest with yourself. I hope you continue to improve, it sounds like you are making steady progress.

My Dad died almost a month ago to the day. I am having a hard time this month, and things have gone from worst to worster, if that's even possible, since then. Been emotional eating...still trying to get to the gym, but not as hard with workouts. I guess something is better than nothing, though.

yeah, since my first time in treatment in 2003, I have been open and mostly honest about it. It helps most of the time. It's not really anything to be ashamed of, it's just like any other addiction. People get drug and alcohol treatment all the time. We need to treat it the same--except that we can't avoid our drug like they can...

B/P ok ok ok...I'm glad you talk about it to get support. It is a problem I have as well, I just don't talk about it. I decided to stop obsessing about my food intake as much and just work out more. Instead of doing like a 600 cal a day diet I am doing like 1400 for now. I just dont like myself when I start obsessing over my intake, it uh well makes me out-take..so we will just work on being healthy for now, not skinny..:)

and as for the saving money goal, well, maybe soon. I am playing catch-up on bills and such, plus I needed more than 3 outfits for work.

ugh! wildfires! Santa Barbara's smoke is ruining our air. I haven't been able to exercise much because of it--and the tendons on the front of my right hip have been tight/pulled easily so I end up falling to the floor in pain. I don't know whay this has been happening. I am stretching and eating healthy enough. It is so odd. My mood is down today too because of the exercise inconveniences and a rough day at work. i am very tired and too hot--we have no A/C in the department I work in and haven't for a month. As for the B/P, I am up to just 4 days. Progress.

Great job Veg,
Metal I'm sure ya can meet your goals if ya work hard. Thats a lot of weight for one month so if you don't quite meet the weightr goal keep working and im sure you will.. :)

Danielle
Great job, I really need to get next to some yoga..I have the cardio under control but I think I need a change up..Yoga seems like a geat idea, maybe I can find some on the mag rag *digi cable channel*..

Pop,
Sorry hon that your going through that messy mess. Your still making it to the gym so thats great..Its hard to maintain when your stress level is high even though working out always makes me feel better, the motivation doesnt always come with the perks...your an arse-kicker youll make it out just fine..

I have been making it to the gym every morning before work. I am getting in an hour a day 5x a week..couldn't be more proud, but I'm super maxed out by like 6pm after the 5 am wake up and a full day at work. I just keep doing it because I know eventually I'll have the energy I need to sustain this whole thing. It says I have burned like 3700 cals in my fitness tracker and I still have tomorrows work out to do. I bet thats closer to 3000 though because they are always generous with the cals burned in the fitness tracker when it comes to the elliptical..Oh well it looks great on paper anyway. :P

I have been doing the morning workouts for 2 weeks now and have only lost 1lbs. :( I'm trying to not get discouraged about it and just keep going. I know it will payoff, but I'm greedy and want my results too soon I guess..

I'm stuck. Been going through some majorly heavy $hit lately, so I guess the best I can hope to do is maintain. I am managing to get my gym visits in, at least.

my water intake has been great. since i started getting up at 5:30, i can fit in 30min yoga or 48 on the elliptical before i have to work.. and by 10am, i'm 2 litres of water down. =D
i'd love to get a good handle on portion control by the end of the month too.

My goal is to get down to 125 by the end of August

My goal for this week is: drink at least 8 oz. of water, drink only 2 cups of coffee per day, go outside for a walk every day. Work out at my gym 3 times this week. Do some form of cardio every day.

well, I am up to 6 days w/ exercise and 6 w/o. My workouts have been super short slowish walks (20-30 minutes) b/c my feet hurt and legs are tired from work and it is still too hot for exercise. B/P hasn't really happened much at all this month simply b/c I don't have time. The time away from it has lead to an anxiety build up inside of me. I am easily annoyed esp. by my dad. I am still tapering off of my antidepressants--against doctors orders, of course. I suppose I feel okay. just sick of the heat and exhausted from work, that's all. Saving money. . . hmmm. . .still waiting on the money to save. need an oil change still. and good shoes for work. I am dying w/o arch support!

Of course I already posted this in the braggin rights section, but a double boast doesn't hurt I guess. Yesterday did 15 mins on the dreadmill, and another 30 on the elliptical. I have done this before but I pushed myself really hard yesterday, I would push until I couldn't and slow it down, and do it again. I almost puked yesterday. I did not know if that was a good thing or not, but I did what I set out to do.

Today I thought to myself I may go a bit easier because of yesterday, I stretched well before I left and headed out. I started out at 30 mins on the elliptical and then just slowly kept increasing my time intervals by 15 mins and then 5, I kept thinking I can do another 5 and so on. I ended up breaking a little personal record and did an hour on the elliptical. I drank my water slowly, and more often to help with the puke scenario. I ended up burning about 700 cals today and I couldn't feel better.

I realized something while I was there. Working out is much like getting a tattoo. At first it hurts alot. It burns and you think, hurm, am I going to be able to do this. Eventually everything kinda goes numb and becomes fluid. I thought yeah this is not so bad I can do this.

An Ipod is the best workout buddy I have ever met. Song choice really helps motivation.
With that said I hope everyone had a great weekend.
Michelle

Good job pop!
Best to take it easy until your really back in the game :)
I have worked out 4 times this week thus far, and plan on going to the gym this weekend on both days. Whew its hard to get up at 5 and into the gym before work. I don't know if it gives me more energy during the week of if it wipes me out. Either way I'm doing it :P

My leg is feeling better, but I took it easy yesterday - 45 minutes and only ~280 calories on the treadmill...that's a little over 1/3 of what I'd normally do. Better safe than sorry, though. I also stretched beforehand, though I don't know that I did it right or not.

Have to miss the gym today so will make that up tomorrow evening, hopefully.

yeah, I have a ball, but I lost the pump. Oops. I think my mom has one. I dig out the dumbbells once in a while. I just wish I had more options for cardio--not that I have the energy anymore after work. I am exhausted.
Ah, I know how it is w/ workouts and animals. i tried doing strength stuff while dog-sitting for a friend. The dog (choc. lab)thought it was play-time and kept jumping/climbing on me.

Hey Veg,
Do you have a swiss ball? I bought one for like 20.00 and you can do so much with them. I can imagine trying to walk with burning eyes and not being able to breathe. yuk...Wish you were in Texas and I would just give you all this workout equipment that collects dust around here. I found that getting out and going to the gym was better for me than trying to workout around a 3 year old, bulldog, and cat.
Baby,
Yeah I am really bad about slipping and feeling so guilty that it just turns into a landslide. I think you have the right outlook about tracking everything and not letting a slipup turn into a habit.
I got up this morning and went to the gym, did muh 45 mins on the elliptical. It was a lot harder today than Sat for some reason, but I pushed through anyway. I stretch better next time because I have a huge knot in my calf from Sat now. ouch. I'm still better off than you with that strained muscle though. It will eventually work itself out I bet just don't put to much stress on it.

Well, I talked myself into a run/walk last night. Felt it today at work--tired! I ran 10 minutes and walked 28. I wish I had a nearby ice rink. There was one in bakersfield but I think it closed down. Riverside-a 3hr drive-is the nearest I know of. No roller rinks, pool is too expensive. I am saving for a bike. My house is too small for anything other than jumping jacks or jogging in place. Ick. Ate closer to my sp range today. August money saving is off to a rough start. my whole paycheck was gone in one day b/c I was so behing w/ precriptions and personal products (toothpaste/brush, shampoo/conditioner, deodorant, etc) I spent $135 at Walmart. Ouch. Oil change will wait til later this week. But my next paycheck (17th?) will be big and I don't have many more bills. i need to get something in my savings account. I have less than 25cents.
oh, and wildfires make the air smoky in socal. hard to breathe. eyes burn, cough a lot even w/o being active. yuck.
babypop, best of luck to you. get back on track and rest that leg! emoticon

Wow, Michelle. That's a rough road. You can do it! I have been sort of backsliding a lot over the last few months (weight is stagnant - thankfully, i've not started gaining) and struggling with a lot of external factors that make staying motivated really hard.

I've found that, even with my backsliding, getting on SP daily helps me not to get too fargone with things. When I binge eat, it goes in my food tracker. When I miss my workout, it goes unentered. It usually only takes me a day to get back on track, rather than to keep "letting it go."

Speaking of letting it go...skipped my 35 minute cardio today. I pulled a leg muscle pretty badly and even light walking really hurts it. I've been putting icy hot stuff on it and taking advil, so hopefully tomorrow I can makeup for today's workout. I had a family reunion yesterday and am pretty sure I went over in calories. I'm definitely sure. But I wrote it all down throughout the day, so I need to enter it later. We play a big softball game every year, and I've not been able to do it for the last several years. I sat it out again this year, but did hit for someone and had a pinch runner, so I did get in for a minute, anyway. :)

Sounds like you could do with a swimming pool to magically appear on your doorstep ;) The sun has finally remembered the UK this weekend - it's not unbearably hot in the house, but not so great outside. A swimming pool would be good here too.
I guess I'm lucky that this is the beginning of my lose the fat and get in shape journey, because the workout dvd's aren't boring yet and I've still got the new-at-this enthusiasm and determination to carry me through. I'm also lucky enough to live in a rural area, with some nice countryside to walk in (do need long sleeves and trousers tho, cos of the nettles, brambles etc, which ISNT so good in hot weather). So I'm making the most of it while i can. Breaking that 3500 down to just 500 a day helps too. Several little bursts of exercise and other activities can get through it quite easily (i hope, lol ) And I wont feel so guilty about indulging in a few unhealthy but satisfying pints at the weekends emoticon
Variety is the spice of life, tried a different workout routine? new sport maybe (ice hockey appeal to you? sit on the ice while the other players push you on it - you'll be moving so you HAVE to be burning calories right? and keeping cool at the same time)

Only I can make this happen.

heh ok. So auggie is already upon us. I am starting out super strong this month. Quick breakdown of my last few months. I quit smoking (started back so no grats please) and gained like 30 lbs. I had previously lost close to 60 and over the last year managed to gain all but 15 of it back. I was feeling pretty defeatist about it, and had actually made an appointment to start proceedings for the gastric bypass. I went back and forth about getting it, my friends offered mixed options, and frankly it just scared the hell out of me.

So my thinking and decision now is, if I can almost allowed myself to be cut up then I owe it to myself to give it a good honest try again. I went yesterday to get a membership at the Powerhouse gym. Which I had to force myself to do. I have always been so intimidated by those huge gyms for some reason. I thought you had to be hot to even go in. I woke up this morning at 7 to get a good work out in, and found there are people of all ages and sizes and actually I felt right at home there. I did 45 mins on the elliptical and then another 30 on the circuit work out. I left feeling absolutely awesome, and motivated again.

So here are my Auggie goals.
To drink tons of water
Get in the gm at least 5 days a week.
Not stave myself or get back into my unhealthily obsessive food habits.
To eat fruits and veggies 3x a day.
Get my protein shake 1x a day,
Seek support when I need it.
Lose 10 lbs this month.
O yeah and try to be a better admin. :P If school, work, and offspring permits.

I am going to start a pic journal as well. At the beginning of every month take a pic of myself so I can see my progress. I have always felt it was never enough so this time I am going to take joy in the little victories instead of obsessing and depressing on the overall goal.
Michelle

My August goal is to burn 3500 calories a week. I should be able to do this with about 30 mins of kickboxing/tae-bo type workouts each day, and some walking.Have already burned about 4000 since sunday, so this week is covered. And I hope to finish August being a lot fitter than I am now emoticon

Okay AUgust.
One goal I have is to be under 90kgs by Aug 21st my boyfriends birthday. Thats 3 weeks-3kgs so doable hopefully.

To get there my other goals are to:
Stick to bulk cooking and preplanning my food each week. No takeaway/snacks!

Put more effort in the gym. minimum 1hr cardio 5x/week. and do some heavy man-sized weights:)

Its only 3 weeks so i think i can do it without slacking.

My goal for August is simply to get in my 3x cardios/week. I'd also like to work my way up to planning meals better, grocery shopping, and weightlifting, etc., but things went all to heck in July so I'm just going to start small.

Good luck, everyone!

Punk Rock slash and burners should know the drill. For the unacquainted and newbies, I'll fill you in on the short version of this thread.

*Pick a few goals for the month (or even just one day or week at a time)
*Try to have at least one goal that isn't just the broad, "I want to lose x lbs this month." (e.g. getting enough water, stretching, doing x minutes of cardio activity x days per week, handling stress better etc.)
*Here's the tricky part: also try to include a detailed plan of how you will attain your goals. (e.g., if your goal is, "I want to refrain from emotional eating this month," then your specific plan could be, "Instead of eating through my emotions, I'll drink a tall glass of water, and work on a craft project or some other creative endeavor, and post on the SP message board for support.)
*Finally, think of a little reward you'd like to treat yourself to at the end of the month for reaching your goal.

Also, check previous "Mini-Goals" threads to see kind of how they work - it's very informal, and please check up on each other at least once a week! It's how we keep one another motivated.

Finally, here is a corny thing I posted in another thread and have posted in my bedroom and on my desk at work. Please copy it, save it on your desktop, print it put, and put it wherever you can see it if you think it will motivate you!

JUST FOR TODAY: I will live through this day only. I will not brood about yesterday or obsess about tomorrow. I will not set far-reaching goals or try to overcome all of my problems at once.

I know that I can do something for 24 hours that would overwhelm me if I had to keep it up for a lifetime.

JUST FOR TODAY: I will be happy. I will not dwell on thoughts that depress me. If my mind fills with clouds, I will chase them away and fill it with sunshine.

JUST FOR TODAY: I will accept what is. I will face reality. I will correct those things I can correct, and accept those I cannot.

JUST FOR TODAY: I will improve my mind. I will read something that requires effort, thought and concentration. I will not be a mental loafer.

JUST FOR TODAY: I will make a conscious effort to be agreeable. I will be kind and courteous to those who cross my path, and I'll not speak ill of others. I will improve my appearance, speak softly, and not interrupt when someone else is talking.

Just for today, I will refrain from improving anybody but myself.

JUST FOR TODAY: I will do something positive to improve my health. If I'm a smoker, I'll quit. If I am overweight, I will eat healthfully -- if only just for today. And not only that, I will get off the couch and take a brisk walk, even if it's only around the block.
