Thanks Shelly. I pray too...reluctant Catholic, I guess you would call me. Lapsed, as well.

I guess that I will get the initial thread started (will post it officially either Friday night or Saturday some time) and then objectives, first 7 days worth of stuff, etc, and as I check in, I'll holla if I need someone to kind of grab the reigns for me. You are all competent and capable so I know you'll -ahem- gitr done!

Please continue to post in this thread if you get any more ideas of a daily goal/activity that can be used...we can have repeates but I'd like it not to just be 1 weeks worth repeating 4 times.

First and formost you and your father are in my prayers(yes i pray there i said it now you all know)!!! Keep us posted on how he is doing and if you need any help just yell at me!

I am working alot right now so i dont know if i could be much help but i am sure I can swing it!



Your plan sounds great I love how it is something new for each day!!!! You wont get as tired of the challenge that way instead of a month challenge its more like a SMALL everyday challenge! I love the 4th day for the outta America ppl! They have a lot to cleebrate on that day LOL!

I am not ashamed to listen to Prince he is a wild person if you listen to his music then you will know I just know a lot of ppl who hear the name and cringe so I refrain from telling them i enjoy a little prince every now and then!

Shelly - there is NO SHAME in Prince!!!! :)

Will get an official thread up (not just the brainstorming) in the next day or two.

I may need someone to kind of step up once I get it on there and help organize things somewhat though b/c I just found out my Dad was put back into the hospital (out less than a week) and I live @ 2 hours away which leaves me not a whole lot of time to do anything other than work and sleep right now.

Tentatively, does the first 7 days worth of July sound okay to post:

1) Eat a piece of fruit today
2) Take a 10-15 minute walk outside; if it's a gym/cardio day for you anyway, add an extra 10-15 minutes if you'd rather do that (but hey, being outdoors is nice!)
3) If you get the urge to overeat/emotional eat/binge eat today, instead, listen to a kick ass song and drink a glass of water
4) Happy 4th! Celebrate your independence by making something healthful for any celebration you attend. If you are not a resident of the U.S.A. do the same in celebration that George W Bush is not your president!
5) Write a SP blog
6) Try a recipe from SparkRecipes.com and report on it
7) Incorporate some strength training - don't overdo it if you're new to it, though!

Kinda something like that work for everyone?

I think I can do this challenge - so I'm in. I have no faith the pounds will come off, I don't have an accurate scale and I lose weight very slowly, I just lose size better than pounds... but no matter, I want to see if I can keep it up.

July 1 - July 31 my goal would be to lose either 1.47 pounds per week (6 pounds, 7 pounds or at 7% 14.7 pounds or anywhere over 6 pounds.

Babypop, I was on a team before that had a challange that had an image that was used for when someone was the winner they got to put it on their page to show their success off, until the next chanllange where it then got passed to the next winner....

Hey another song we could use even though it isnt punk rock but one of the local bands here cover it with one hell of an edge is 7 by prince. The orginal does have a little bit of a catchy tune and the song talks about all 7 will die just think of all 7 lbs or all 7% of the body weight dieing and use it that way could be inspiring!

I dont know just throwing some things out there what do ya think?

Granted we would have to keep our mouths shut about listening to prince haha!

Well I will keep this brainstorming thread up for a few more days and will try to post the official 7 and 7 is thread on the 28th or 29th, just so we can get more ideas in here.

So do challenges have a prize or is the prize just successfully completing the challenge? I'd suggest a mix swap, but I get way too into them and would be afraid I wouldn't get it done. Hmm...a thought.

Well how about this:

The goal will be 7lbs - or - .7% each week for the month of July (I think that .7% would work out to probably 6-ish lbs total depending on your weight) for July. How we get there and what goals we have are individual but I can post a the suggested things (strength training, fruit, walks, music, etc).

I was thinking maybe we could have 7 of these activities and rotate them i.e.:

Jul 1 - take a 10-15 minute walk in addition to any other planned exercise
Jul 2 - eat a piece of fruit
Jul 3 - incorporate strength training into your day - if you don't do it very frequently, start small, using canned soup (or something similar) for your "weights"
Jul 4 - make a recipe using the sp recipes and report on it
Jul 5 - listen to ____________ instead of emotional eating
Jul 6 - blog

etc...

of course, i'd try to take into account holidays/bbqs - my friends always have a chili cook off on july 4...so that's gonna be hard.

Or I could post them a week at a time for weigh-ins, that way if we find any new ideas or whatever, we won't necessarily have to keep repeating the same ones over and over.

Also- liking the 1 piece of fruit a day! It's true it is summer how hard could it be, it could also be our "Sweet Treat Dessert" at night! (that's when I find myself wanting to nibble and snack!!!)

Great ideas, all! Goldie, your idea is a good one but I don't know that it's doable in only one month's time. Most stuff I've read has said to shoot for 6-8 lbs/month max. The idea is to lose slowly and steadily and I'd be afraid with losing such a large amount, progress may stall or revert at the end of the challenge. HOWEVER - maybe we *could* in corporate something like - shoot for losing 7 lbs - or - .7% of your weight per week (following your idea):

150 * .007 = 1.05 lb first week
175 * .007 = 1.225 lb first week

etc...that'd probably work out to being less than 7 lbs total but still be a feasible incremental goal for people that may not want to lose a full 7.

In keeping with the 7's...

We could see who can get closest to losing 7% of their body weight within the month?

ie. 150*7%=10.5 lbs.
175*7%=12.25 lbs.
200*7%=14 lbs.
225*7%=15.75 lbs.

It would be work, but fairly easy to regulate with all different diets/workouts.

The winner(s) could get a cool mixed CD with various "GOOD" workout music from the other forum!

***5 lbs of MUSCLE = size of 3 tangerines***
***5 lbs of FAT= size of 3 grapefruits***

First off, Im sorry BABYPOP to hear about the crap you had going on!

Ok, well I think that the recipie idea challange is a great idea, because I always mean to try one, and never do, Although lately Ive been thinking I should!!

Another challange could be to eat at least 1 fruit everyday! Its summer so that cant be that hard!

We should have a goal to do stregth trainig/toning exercises regularly, Because I know I neglect those, like crunches, and weights...what are those??? lol.

Music incorporated??? Um, on that "at least 15 minute walk" we can include listen to your most encouraging rock song. Or each week chose a new inspirational song to listen to.~~~~~I took too long to post and there are 4 new posts on this idea :)

LOVE the 10 minute walk idea!

That would get my butt out of the house to walk Zephyr (my boxer puppy)... I always workout before I take him for his workout and sometimes I'm just too tired to take him on his walk...eek!

I haven't read everyone's post so this could have already been mentioned... BUT...

KATIEJIMMY- mentioned something about music...

I too have been bad about staying in my calorie range lately... and I notice that it because I'm bored not really because I am hungry...

We could do a challenge where we have to listen to the "song of the day" which someone could post each day before we decide to eat that snack or nibble etc...

JUST AN IDEA!!!

I just know that I need SUPER distraction when at home to keep me from eating... ANYTHING to keep me busy! haha

Cool - anyone else got two cents to put in on it? Idease for teensy daily challenges

I was thinking one could be:

Take a 10 minute walk, regardless of the weather! (Even if it's a regularly scheduled workout day!)

Try a recipe from Sparkrecipes, share which one it was, and whether or not you liked it.

Just some really easy stuff that wouldn't require a whole lot of planning.

I generally aim to lose 8 lbs per month, 2 lbs per week, so 7 for July fits right in. I think its a great idea and Hot Hot Hot for August is good too since August is usually the most stinkin hot month.

Hey - okay, this is a little different than what we've been discussing, but I saw a team that is doing 7 lbs. for july - duh! 7 lbs, 7(july's month), 2K7 (year!)

So maybe we could call the challegne:

7 and 7 Is... (after the wonderful Love song!)

But this is a cheezy 80s version off an Arthur Lee solo so it's kinda over produced...the original versional is super fast and punk rock as f***, but I can't find it online.


We could shoot for losing 7 lbs in July, checking in daily...maybe come up with 31 small daily challenges? And save the Hot Hot Hot for August? Thoughts?


Hopefully we can kinda hammer out specifics and post the sticky official challenge on the 25th so people have time to say they want to join or help with mini-daily challenges or whatever.

And of course, you can lose more, or less, no biggie. And people will hopefully do the "monthly-mini goals" thing for overall support that isn't challenge-related.

Things are looking up somewhat. Thank you for the kind words. So...I was strying to think of some ideas for challenges.

The mini-goals are hopefully helpful to people. Maybe we could do a HOT HOT HOT July challenge? Not sure the topic or whatever. Maybe just picking ONE thing and reporting daily on it...I don't know...just brain farting.

Will try to check out other threads. Please post if you think of something fun/interesting to do!

I can't even see the "banner thingie." Is that where it ranks most SP points per team? Weird...I remember seeing that sometimes but can't see it now.

Man...$hitty weekend. $hitty week ahead. Will make myself get to the gym...and hopefully stay in calories. I bet I'm back up to the mid-190s.

My Dad has been in the hospital, my boyfriend dumped me tonight, and I gotta go to court on Thursday for a traffic ticket - out of state so a 4 hour drive, meaning either leave at 3 a.m. and drive in the dark (NOT SAFE) or fork out $ for a hotel.

Grrrr.

OK - lets get some ideas rolling on challenges!

I haven't had a chance to look at the boards for reasons stated above.

I would love to have some sort of a challenge, but I am completely in the dark about how it works as well. We could find a goal and a way of measuring the success of that goal, to make it competitive we could set a date or some specific challenge. Or at least that's my take on it! Do you have any goals in particular you want to work on?

OK - in another thread I posited (?) having some sort of "challenge" b/c I have such little discipline as of late when it comes to staying in my calorie range.

Would anyone else be interested? I've never done one before and am not quite sure how they work so please share your idease here, even if you don't think you'll participate.
