Because of my alcohol intake, two nights out to dinner, and 3 nights of only 2-4 hours of sleep this week, I was too scared to weigh in yesterday to see if I made my January goal. But, I did it today, about 5 minutes ago actually. And as it turns out, I made my goal! I'm offically out of the 220s! After an entire semester of being stuck at the same weight, I'm finally really seeing myself lose again.

An improvement that I saw and NEVER thought I'd see from me was last Saturday at a homecoming dance, I had a tubetop dress and 1.) I didnt even care that I didnt have anything covering my arms (its usually my first concern) and 2.) I actually danced... I NEVER dance I'm wayyy to self conscious to dance. But I did, for three hours straight. That might seem like nothing but it was a big deal for me and my friends were all really excited too. It felt really good.

I promised myself to reward myself at every 10lb loss. But I didnt have anything planned for this one. I'll have to think about it and a reward for my next 10 so I can actually look forward to it.

Way to go ThatGrlChass! I'd assume that so long as the scales are pretty decent and haven't been moved around or dropped, they'd still be calibrated with one another. Good luck!

Thanks babybop! i am sure that you will meet your weigh in goal, sometimes those nights that we binge end up giving the ol metabolism a boost. but you are on the right track for sure!

Yeah i decided that i am not going to beat myself up over the last 3 pounds, i didnt realize that the month was over so soon LOL.. i am surprized that i was able to loose this much my first month, becuase i lost 55 pounds a year ago and gained it all back and i was afraid that i wasnt going to loose as easily as i did last time. I do know that it will slow down and i am prepaired for that. I will be happy with 3 pounds a week until goal(of course sometimes more isnt bad either).

Also the last time that i lost weight i had great success with weight training. But right now i am going to a weight loss clinic and they dont have the machine to tell the difference between your fat and muscle so they dont want me to lift weights. But i think that i am going to go full force on the cardio until the end of march, and in april add in a weight lifting schedual in there to tone, i am wearing a strapless wedding dress in October so i cant have my arm flab waving at everyone@!!!!!

To Thatgrl!

Setting a goal loss of 20 lbs. throughout January is VERY ambitious, so if you do your last official weigh-in tomorrow and don't meet it, just think how great it is to lose as much as you have, and what positive changes you've made to make that happen. Also keep in mind that if you keep up with the pace you are doing (and even if it does slow somewhat), you will still reach your goal weight seemingly in no time!

My last official weigh-in of the month is this afternoon - I have to be 214 or lower to reach my minimum goal. I am nervous! I haven't gone to the gym since last Weds. and from Thurs. night through Sat. night went WAY WAY WAY over on my calories from boozing and, in turn, emotional eating.

I made the boy and I dinner last night - I told him how it is funny that I've spent almost the whole month eating right and working out and it had gotten to be so much less of a chore, practically effortless. Then a few days of letting that fall to the wayside and it is such a struggle again. DAMAGE!

Including lunch and the stuff I brought today that I'm going to have for dinner (fruit, veggies, yogurt), I'm right at 1,000 calories, so I should be able to have a few drinks tonight. WHOO! I had
water, greenbeans, and a grilled chicken sandwich and pickle at a going away party for work - didn't eat the mayo or chips that came with it. I looked up recipes for southern style green beans on allrecipes.com and entered that calorie information in, since I know their greenbeans are cooked in ham or bacon, then I used the calorie info for a Denny's grilled chicken sandwich, which was probably comparable to the one I got. I could have 3-4 drinks tonight and be just fine!

Good luck with it. Just try to remind yourself of your goals. And have fun playing the show! This weekend I have a homecoming dance that a bunch of friends decided we'd go to drunk as hell and continue drinking there at the bar and then come back. I know I realllly have to be careful and maybe find someone who can look out for me. I can get ridiculous. Have a good time this weekend though!

Countto11 - sounds like your new roomie will be a good influence and motivator! My band is playing it's 1st show tonight and I'm going to Champaign (& hopefully Chicago) over the weekend, and I have a feeling I may be in the same predicament as you come Monday (bruised legs, bad hangovers, etc). I'm going to try to stick to things, though. Just gotta do my corny daily affirmations!

oh yes, and i have a couple pounds to lose by next weigh in day to reach my January goal. I had too many drinking binges this week which lead me to bad hangovers, bruised legs, no motivation to get to the gym and terrible junk food choices. I can't let that happen this week, it takes me off course so bad. At least I didn't gain though. Phew. Good luck everyone.

no loss this week. however, some changes were made last night now instead of having two roommates that sleep allllll day long i now have a room with lots more space for me to do workouts and yoga and such whenever i want. my new roommate, and one of my best friends, isnt around much and when she is around she encourages me to wake up early and take advantage of my day. I'm pretty sure this roommate swap alone will be very helpful for a healthy lifestyle. :) I'm going to do crunches now and now worry about my old roommate's ferret biting me. :) this is great.

My 3rd official weigh-in since starting in earnest - down to 214.5! Hells yes. Man, I would be so thrilled if I steadily lost this much weight per week throughout the year. Something tells me I won't be so lucky, though. :)

I have a Pontani Sisters workout video. Of course I am sure it's not really a workout, just eye candy!

I also want to get Naughty Pilates (http://www.naughtypilates.net/) - workin' out to 68 Comeback!!!

I fudged and got on the scale yesterday. I am wearing some pants that are usually snug when I first wash them and even when they get baggy again are not too baggy - today they are sliding down past my undies without a belt!

I never make it that often but I read it somewhere, I too have a lot on my plate, I got to school FT and work PT, I stress alot which is like another FT job added on (lol).I worked out on Tuesday and did 30 minutes of an ab DVD on Wednesday. I had a night class until 9 last night and got home at 9:30, starving!! I ended up eatting boxed mac and cheese, I know it was a bad choice but I was desperate and tired. My sister suggested a pole dancing class! HA! Any thoughts on that?

I doubt it is completely necessary to go to the gym that often as long as you make sure to keep up with some sort of workout routine most days of the week. In fact, my first 26 pounds wasn't from a gym, just remembering to workout helped a lot. Even if it was 10 minute intervals when I found the time throughout the day. So, I guess dont stress if ya can't make it 5x out of the week, just try to fit something in.

CountTo11 - Way to go! Always so nice when you do better than you were expecting!

Lovaniez - I have only been going to the gym 3x a week - I do want to up this eventually, but right now it is just not feasible between a FT job and FT school and PT band. Do you really have to go to the gym 4-5x a week to lose weight?

Just weighed in and I am down 3 pounds from last weigh in, I guess because I got so active and I have been doing really good with eating right. Couldn't believe it so I checked it like 8 times. Felt good to move the weight tracker. Only 2 more pounds to reach my goal of getting out of the 220's in January. :) Crazzzy

Good for you COUNTTO11!

Man...I gave all my clothes away going up to 12s, just because I never even thought there would be a possibility I could be that small again. Now I'm sort of regretting it...so much cool stuff!

I have one drawer at home of my smaller sized clothes that I kept in the hopes that I would one day fit into them again. And I will someday :)

Today I actually went to the gym twice and burned about 500 altogether (according to the machines, but probably more than that cause I'm like an extra huge person). I was sweating my asssss off though it was crazy, no one else in the gym was as bad as me.

However, my friend Janelle was amazed at the distance I went when she was comparing herself to me. She was at 2.7 miles and looked at mine and expected it to be about the same since we started the same time but I was at 3.3 already. Felt good :)

Tomorrow morning I'm weighing in. Hopefully I lost somethinggg but if not at least I know that if I keep up with how I have been the past couple days I'll have to drop some weight.

Good job everyone :)

That's pretty motivating! :)

Of course I got clothes in my closet that go back several sizes, so I won't get any new stuff till late in the year, probably.

That, and I HATE shopping. (Of course maybe that won't be the case once I can actually find cute stuff to wear.)

The good news - at this mont's half-way offical weigh in, I was 216.5 - losing 3.5 lbs total, meaning I SHOULD be able to reach my goal of losing 6-8 lbs by the end of the month.

The bad news - I miscalculated my dinner calories (made myself two tuna salad melts in wheat tortillas) and went over in my calories today by about 200.

BUT - I'm hoping the fact that I burned 350 at the gym today (rather than the SP suggested 277) helps me a little.

;)

Keeping up with all this while in school is a task indeed, I totally feel you Countto11!

i went to the gym this morning and still have to take a nice long walk in the flurries. But this is actually a big step for me because we have this nice new gym on campus and I was always intimidated to use it. Well, my friend and I went and now I'm ready to go back tomorrow morning :) WHat the hell was I think the big deal would be?

Being back at school is crazy. There isn't much time to check sparkpeople. But I will try my hardest to keep up with it! I'm very under calories today so I better go find something to eat!

BABYPOP, great job! I also had some chili this weekend, it had beans and steak but I only had 1/2 a cup. I have also been going to the gym regularly. Tonight I have a gym partner! I have never had a gym partner-its my sister.

Today is the end of week two for January's mini-goal. How is everyone doing? I go to the gym today and will record my weight officially. I went Sunday and was down to 217, which put me at the half-way mark for losing 6 lbs for the month. I hope that I am still there (or even less) today. Good luck everyone!

My boyfriend's mom had a digital scale down in their basement (where we practice) that I get on every time I go down there. It was 2 pounds lighter that it was when we practiced last Saturday - AND I was wearing extremely chunky/heavy shoes. YAY!

Also, I had a HUGE bowl of white chili at the boy's sister's house - with tortilla chips, FF sour cream, and FF cheese - it was yum yum and filling AND I stayed within my calorie range for today. They were also having fat free yogurt floats/sundaes, but I passed b/c I didn't know how many calories the chili had until I got home and looked it up.

WHOOOH! Baby steps.

Well, I am done beating myself up over the cheesecake thingy - it's really a feat that they've been in there as long as they have without me eating the whole pan! Plus...I DID go to the gym yesterday as scheduled, even though I was totally tired and not feeling it AT ALL. Better than going home and napping, even if I did end up overeating.

I do, however, need to find an alternative for when my sweet tooth kicks in. I would say a bag of hershey's kisses or something, because one usually does the trick, but I'm scared I'd eat the whole bag at some point! Ideas?

LOVANIEZ - that is great! It's always nice to be pleasantly surprised. Last year I lost about 13 lbs. in the course of 3 months. I wasn't weighing myself, and went to the oncologist, where they weighed me. It was the first time I'd ever been there and the scale was LOWER than the time before, instead of HIGHER. Good job! Slow and steady!!!

So i got weighed and apparently I was at 148 on October 30th, then I was 144 yesterday. So I lost 4 pounds in less than 3 months, but I guess that is pretty good considering I havent exercised in that long. lol. I will have to change the ticker, the 141 was from the beginning of September and I was weighed on the gym scale, not the doctors (the doctors scale is one of those old fashion scales, and has alwasy been 2-3 pounds more then the gym scale, but since the gym got rid of its scale I will start going by the doctors). I switched to the birthcontrol pills (which I have never been on) from the depo which I was on for 4 years, the doctor says I shouldnt have any weight gain because the pill has less hormones than the depo shot. Maybe I'll lose some weight???

Im not disappointed though. Im going to the gym tonight at 5, hopefully it wont be so crowded b/c its friday!

Its ok that you ate the pb cheesecake! You have to cheat sometimes or you will go mad! When I heard I lost 4 pounds I ate a slice of pizza, 1/2 a sandwich and drank a soda-a drink with caleries in it! ahhh. I dont feel bad, because I will work it off tonight.

EESH! Did so well on calories today until just now. My roomate had these peanut butter cheesecake cupcake things in the fridge from Christmas. I rarely have a sweettooth but was dying for one, so I had it. So I am WAY over my calories by like 450...even with taking the gym into account, I went over. I think it was because at the gym today I hadn't lost anything. Damn it damn it damn it. Well, done beating myself up over it, I will do better tomorrow. emoticon

today is day 3 of my eat right/get butt in the gym program. i started my tom. boo. i'm going back to the gym again tonite (cramps be damned). part of my main challenge this month is no looking at the scale. so far i'm just focusing on how i feel after the eating well and exercising. it's keeping me focused knowing i won't be able to check my weight until the end of the month. plus, it keeps me from being discouraged when i don't lose or (gasp!) gain.

if it was easy, everyone would be thin

Hey, awesome job getting back. I bet taking it a little slower than you used to was a better choice in terms of getting back to where you were anyway.

My weigh in for week 1, last Thursday, I lost 1 pound. This week's weigh is in on my 22nd birthday and I know that I haven't been doing as good as I could but I am going to be working on hopefully losing 1 pound. If that happens I'll know that I'm at least back to losing something again. :)

Keep up the good work! How is everyone else doing?

So how is everyone doing after the end of week one? Tonight will be my first gym weigh-in after a full week of eating right and working out. I will try not to get too discouraged if I haven't lost though - my first two workouts I burned so few calories, but by my third, I was back where I was before I started slacking!

boo on booze, ha i know exactly what you mean.
i've surprisingly been doing good with passing up on booze while i am home for break but i know when i get back to school booze is gonna get to me again. oh and my birthday (thursday), I can't pass it up then!
I've messed around with different weigh in days and Thursdays turned out to be best for me. I'm pretty good with sticking to weighing in once a week, mostly before I fear the scale.

Went over my calorie goal last night due to 1 glass of pinot grigio!!! But considering I burned 325 at the gym (yay!) I am not feeling too bad about it, as that put me at about 1400 for the day. I watched the season premier of the L Word with my next door neighbor and was really tempted to have more than 1 glass of wine, but I didn't.

I wouldn't bother weighing myself except for the goal I have for 6-8 lbs in Jan. BUT I really do need to limit myself to once a week.

Congrats on the 2 hour gym and resisting snacky foods! That is so hard for me!

My band has its first show in 2 weeks and it is going to be really hard to pass up free beer :)

I never weigh myself, because I have my doctors appointment every 3 months and I get it done then. I have my appointment on Thursday, so I'll let you guys know. I dont think Ive lost anything, but I dont think I've gained either. Im not really looking to lose as much as tone though.

I was at the gym on friday for 2 hours, and then I used the treadmill at home on Sunday for 40 minutes.
Doing good for my first week back at exercising!

There was a football game on yesterday and tons of snacky foods out, but since I didnt watch it (not football fan) I told myself I couldnt have any of the snacks. I didnt need them anyways.

EEP. Went over my manually entered calorie goal - wouldn't had if it'd not been for condiments!!! So I went and readjusted them to the automatically recommended calorie range and VOILA! Although...I usually like to only eat the high end when I work out, which I didn't today. I used to use Saturdays as my "off days" before but not any more so I guess that's a good start, even though I went to about 1635 today and not the 1200 or 1300 I wanted to. (Ate out for lunch and dinner...still not too bad considering.)

Gym tomorrow then I have to really focus on school. Bleh.

How are the rest of you coming along?

I weight myself at the boy's house and it said 221...some things have said 219 (at the Y)...I need to just stick to one scale and only get on it once a week but I can't help myself. I do so hope I can lose at least 6 lbs this month!

Ha! No joke - I have been working late lately and it is amazing how much less crowded it is when I go at 6 than at 5!

So far all I've had today is water (6 glasses!) and a granola bar. I brought yogurt+grape nuts and some clementines as well, and also have some frozen healthy choice meals in the freezer. Should be about 520 cal, plus another 300 or so for frozen dinner, but truthfully, I've eaten the same thing every day without a frozen dinner and am not hungry throughout the day, so I just skip a hot lunch and am able to eat a little more at night. :)

I am resisting getting coffee or a diet coke...coffee has calories (so tired of it black) and i've heard diet cokes stretch and then shrink your stomach and cause you to be hungry...but oh, I want one!!!!

Jemstar - try packing your lunch at night - that way it is ready for you in the morning! I know I NEVER get up early enough and have to do it before bedtime if want to stay on track. I have been getting Healthy Choice meals to bring and leave at work in the freezer for tiems when I am in a rush and don't have time to pack - at least it gives me an option besides vending machines and eating out. If you are worried about sandwiches, etc, getting soggy, pack your sandwich components in separate containers or baggies and bring them with you each morning, along with a utensils.

Lovaniez - great goal! Actually...I think I should have only committed to 3x a week for January, considering how far behind I am in school and I don't want to burn out ang get discouraged. Do you think that would be okay? (Guess I need to go change it in my planning thing.)

Goosebean, you might want to get a water bottle that has the ounces marked on the side. I have a 32oz bottle that I fill up and drink twice a day, and it makes it really easy to keep track of how much I've had.

My January minigoal... I think first and foremost it's to pack my things and move out of my exboyfriend's house! Heh. But Spark-wise, I need to start packing lunch! If I don't bring lunch to work with me, I end up eating a banana 'cause that's the healthiest thing around (I work in an ice cream store), and that's just not enough. Problem is, I'll need time in the morning to pack a lunch, which means I'll have to start getting up earlier, which I still can't do. When does it get easier?

the water intake at first i thought was really going to be hard for me, because i was using my cups at my work, since thats were a hugh put of my day is spent. Here i thought the cups where 4oz big, so i was like drinking to of them considering that make it 8oz. One day i asked the girl i was working with if i was correct, she was like Um no sweetie 1 of them cups are 8oz.. so here it was doubled the amount i was drinking 16cups of water a day. So now that i have the proper measurement it seems easier to me lol. Just thought id share my brain dead momment with yall!

I need to get reused to working out too. I know for sure that I have to do it first thing the morning or I wont do it at all. I have noticed so far in January that I am making smart decisions with my food options and drinking lots of water. Now, to step up the working out a little more.

Good going! I have a feeling that I'll have to take it easy (sort of) for the next week or two, while I get re-used to working out. I was going to do half of my weight circuit yesterday, too, but my gym is remodeling and the computers on the nautalis equipment aren't working. I need to try to get online and do it by hand at some point, if it's not up and running soon.

Thanks for posting that Al-Anon speech - thinking patterns like that "just make it through this minute/hour/day" got me through some serious depression and anxiety issues, I never thought to apply it to weight loss.

Mostly I just want to work on having a more positive self image and not talk and think so negatively of myself. I spend a lot of time beating myself up for things and it certainly does not help!

How is everyone doing so far? Yesterday I logged in 1300 calories exactly - that includes eating at Denny's and giving myself a no-bake cookie. Drinking lots of water really helps! So far so good for me, knock on wood!

I also stocked up on some clementines and Healthy Choice dinners - granted, not particularly "healthy" and I could have a slice of REAL pizza with the same calories as one of their dinky ones, but they're good for me to have on-hand when I can't get to the grocery and such.

-walking for 30 minutes everyday, plus other cardio
-strength train a couple days of the week
-yoga
-control drinking habbits
-get my 5 veggies, 3 fruits, at least 8 glasses of water

These are all goals that are pretty much what I've used in the past. I've seen them give me results but when I go back to school I slowly watch them disappear. When I go back to school, Jan. 13th, I want to keep up with them and that is my main goal. I hope to lose 6 pounds through January.

I x-posted this in the Fastbreak board, I added a little to my goals, and also tacked on a little motivational thing to keep in mind:

----------------------

I have a long-term weight loss and health improvement goal, but I am going to create mini-goals for myself throughout 2007. This may be something you want to consider!

I would like to lose 6-8 lbs. by the end of Jan 2007 by:

1. hitting the gym 3-4x/week
2. eating 4+ servings fruit/veggies daily
3. keeping track of what I eat and PLANNING MY MENUS AHEAD OF TIME
4. managing my time better - to easily incorporate band practice, down time, working out, menu planning/grocery shopping, and school work
5. keeping the booze in check
6. keeping night time/emotional eating in check by working on embroidery/art projects, writing, or schoolwork

Also, this is corny, but this ran in the newspaper today and I hope it can be helpful. My brother is a recovering drug addict, clean for 5 years or so, and I know this is where he started when it looked like he'd never get his life in order:

DEAR READERS: Rise and shine, my friends, and welcome a brand-new year! This is our chance for a new beginning. It is the day we discard destructive old habits for healthy new ones. With that in mind, I am printing Dear Abby's often-requested list of New Year's resolutions -- adapted by my mother from the original credo of Al-Anon.

JUST FOR TODAY: I will live through this day only. I will not brood about yesterday or obsess about tomorrow. I will not set far-reaching goals or try to overcome all of my problems at once.

I know that I can do something for 24 hours that would overwhelm me if I had to keep it up for a lifetime.

JUST FOR TODAY: I will be happy. I will not dwell on thoughts that depress me. If my mind fills with clouds, I will chase them away and fill it with sunshine.

JUST FOR TODAY: I will accept what is. I will face reality. I will correct those things I can correct, and accept those I cannot.

JUST FOR TODAY: I will improve my mind. I will read something that requires effort, thought and concentration. I will not be a mental loafer.

JUST FOR TODAY: I will make a conscious effort to be agreeable. I will be kind and courteous to those who cross my path, and I'll not speak ill of others. I will improve my appearance, speak softly, and not interrupt when someone else is talking.

Just for today, I will refrain from improving anybody but myself.

JUST FOR TODAY: I will do something positive to improve my health. If I'm a smoker, I'll quit. If I am overweight, I will eat healthfully -- if only just for today. And not only that, I will get off the couch and take a brisk walk, even if it's only around the block.

I would like to lose 6-8 lbs. by the end of January by planning my meals ahead of time, and getting to the gym (cardio) 3x a week. My calories are 1200-1500 (a little more on days I work out).

Please join me if you have a mini-goal for this month!

(I figure I can maybe stick to this better rather than just saying I want to lose xlbs by 2008.)
