How did every end up for Feb? I surprised myself and will be treating myself to a haircut (lost 6 lbs. this month!!!) and also a yoga mat...I had been using the gym ones but I caught a funky case of RINGWORM from them. EWWW!

I've been doing really well - but there was an ice storm and I couldn't get to the gym for my workout/weigh in . Iguess I will have to go tomorrow, after work, before I leave town. I hate to do it that way but can't stand to miss a work out!

Just checking in - how is everyone doing so far? I've been hitting my markers but still not losing weight! It's frustrating but, knock on wood, it's kind of become a habit, so hopefully if I keep at it, good things will come.

Congrats Baby,
That's a def victory. :)

ANNEVI, Grats on getting 2 out of 3. I really need to add a multi vitamin to my goals. I always plan on taking them before bed but I forget.

I am 3 lbs down from last week myself. I worked out eveyday, and sometimes 2x a day. If I didn't make it to the gym I did a workout video, my bike or weights. I'm feeling great!!!!

Well I did okay this weekend. I accidentally ate past 10 o'clock on Friday night and went over my calories. It was close to midnight (and I was over 1 time zone so definitely after midnight on my clock) so I put them on the next day's. Yesterday I had a wedding shower to go to and I *know* I must've gone over but it was all finger foods and nearly impossible to keep track. Did get to the gym Saturday since I knew I couldn't go yesterday. Hopefully I'll have at least maintained my weight and not put any back on!

I am on cold meds right now and feeling pretty nuts~

Well don't sweat the overlap! Think of them as both means to an end.

Godo news: I lost 2 lbs this past week. I think it was even closer to 2.5 but I like to round down. Woot!

4. eating breakfast daily
5. 90 minutes of cardio per week

Well, I consider the "Mini-Goals" for each month not so much a challenge as just a place for you to visually set out the goals for yourself and how you'd liek to accomplish them each month towards your ultimate goal - it's more of an ongoing-thing to help keep us on track and break our long term goals into smaller pieces rather than a "challenge."

ANNEVI,
Yeah this is a different one. Or I should say a challenge in addition to. This is a monthly challenge that you can customize for yourself.

Youkneeque,
Wow 2X a day!!! Thats awesome. I found out that my body right now is not going to do the 2x a day trip. It jacks up my knee and back to bad, and then I can't work out daily. So best to stick to the plan. Anyway good for you, I hope you win your little bet, and show him up :P

first I would like to say, CRYSTALUNICORNS I looooove the Labrynth pic! I adore Bowie! Now I can stop drooling and get to the update... I have not been in here for a while, but I have been keeping track of my food and hitting the gym daily. My food was going well until this past weekend. My roommate and I went all out for the Superbowl and my fat ass is paying for it.. But I am happy to say I did keep up with the gym and now I have vowed to go twice a day. Today will be my first day going 2 times. I usually go in the morning and try to go after work too but I get sidetracked or some other ridiculous reason to avoid the gym. But NOT ANYMORE! I am going today! whoo hoo.. I burned about 400 this morning and I plan to do an hour of cardio tonight.. lets see where that will get me.. I have a bet with my "friend" that I will lose some weight by the time he gets his new place. Damn it I will not lose to him!

It's not enough to have lived. We should be determined to live for something.

My sister in law has started doing Zumba. This year is the first I've ever made a point to do any classes, and I joined the gym in 2005. Spinning and yoga have been pretty solitary. Yoga was packed but you're focusing on yourself. Spinning was pretty empty. I guess since it'snot all the rage any more. I'd like to try Body Pump or Cardio Blast but like you I am reluctant of group stuff. They seem so cheerleady!

I don't know why but I have always been a little scared of spinning. Think I need another month in the gym before I try. My gym has a zumba class that everyone raves about, but I can be anti social at he gym. I should just bite the bullet and try one out I guess.

Baby,
I feel ya. I did yoga with my 4 year old last night. The first time I did it, it was really relaxing. Last night now so much. I think I just did too much yesterday. I went to the gym @ 5am..worked the elliptical for 45. Then came home, did crunches and push ups, and yoga for 30+ mins. I payed for it this morning though. I can usually do an hour + on the elliptical, but could only bring myself to do 35 this morn. I need to map out a set in stone cardio, and strength plan instead of doing it all in the same day.

I'm doing pretty well, so far. Did yoga tonight. I wish I liked yoga better than I did. THe first time I went I loved it but I don't know if it's my sinuses/congestion, I just don't feel like I'm getting as much out of it as I should.

Oh yeah, my reward to myself will be an elliptical. I have been saving for one for months and I think I am going to buckle down and just get a good one. My other motivation will be winning teh biggest loser pot at work 400.

cardio 6 days a week
strength at least 3 days a week
no more than 1500 calories - so time to stock up on lots of veggies and fruits and crystal light
at least 10 glasses (5 bottles) of water daily
set up a tentative date to visit some friends I haven't seen in a while as extra motivation to bust my butt.

Well hello ladies (and gents)
I have finally frekn graduated, so I may be able to act like a human again, and start taking care of myself like I want to. I have just organized and started the biggest loser at work. It will run for 3 months. By the end of that I hope to have lost at least 30 lbs.
This month my goals are to workout 6 days a week.
Do cardio at least 4 days a week at 1 hour in the morning, and follow up with yoga or pilaties at night if possible.
I will rotate in strength training at least 3 days a week as well.
I will not eat over my allotted 1500 cals for the day, but I still want to eat healthy to get my slow metabolism back on track due to treating my diet so poorly.
No crash diets, just healthy food.
No slipping back into bad eating eating disorders.
Drinking lots of water.
Start logging my cals, and exercise in Sparks.
Post more in sparks for support.
Just get back in the game!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I can only speak for myself, Medusa, but I tend to stick to my goals more frequently when I tell them to anyone who will listen, be it on Sparks, my boyfriend, my sister, friends, etc. Good luck!

I don't know why I've been so hesitant to post my goals up here, maybe I'm afraid of failure or being held responsible for them, but here goes.

1. Cardio 3x week for 30 minutes
2. Tracking my meals everyday and staying with in my calorie range 1240-1550.
3. Drinking 8 glasses of water everyday
4. Doing a shutterbugs assignment at least 2x this month (which includes walking and that does not count for my cardio goal per week)
5. Everytime I have a negative thought about myself i will take 10 deep breaths and recite at least 5 things I'm lucky to have.
6. I will only have pizza 1x a week TOPS. hehe

Okay there is probably more but thats all I can think of right now.

Share with us your circuit training. I am trying to do that, today, I did one with my lower body and abs. Including an hour of cardio. I like your idea of an activity outside of the gym. I am going to come up with something. Maybe Roller Skating! Still at 222!

Great goals, Bethclod. Try to check in here once a day and maybe that will help you stay on course and track your progress.

My goals for Feb. are pretty much the same as they were for January. I would like to go from 190 lbs. to 182-184 by the end of the month.

* 8-10 cups of H2O per day
* 35 minutes of cardio 3x/week
* 1 full weight training circuit/week
* 1 day of non-gym activity/week (walking, jogging, bike riding, batting cages, etc) or group fitness (yoga, pilates, aerobics, etc)
* Cooking more
* Grocery once every 7-14 days (fresh fruits, veggies, dairy, etc)
* Staying within my calorie range (1200 - 1550 on days I work out)
* Not buying anything I don't need (gum and soda can be bought on grocery trips, but not at gas stations or at work, eating out limited to 2x/month, shows limited to 2x/month, and anything I *want* - such as a new bike or new music - that is a "non-need" purchase can only be bought with money earned from selling something I already own) (I fudged on this part last month - bought two records from a band I love, so I need to put some things on ebay to account for that!)

And, since I didn't make the goal last month, my reward for February is a haircut/color.

For February, my #1 goal is to start tracking my progress, I have been really slack in this area. I will do at least 1 hour of cardio a day, plus a quick circuit of weights at least 4x a week. Eat more veggies (which will be hard, I don't like the ones that are good for me!) I hope by the end of the month I will be 5 lbs (or more) lighter!

Maybe you started 2008 with a fresh outlook for your health and fitness. Use February to either continue momentum or to brush yourself off if you got discouraged in January. Use this month to build on your strengths and to challenge yourself on your weaknesses!

Established Punk Rock slash and burners should know the drill. For the unacquainted and newbies, I'll fill you in on the short version of this thread.

*Pick a few goals for the month (or even just one day or week at a time)
*Try to have at least one goal that isn't just the broad, "I want to lose x lbs this month." (e.g. getting enough water, stretching, doing x minutes of cardio activity x days per week, handling stress better etc.)
*Here's the tricky part: also try to include a detailed plan of how you will attain your goals. (e.g., if your goal is, "I want to refrain from emotional eating this month," then your specific plan could be, "Instead of eating through my emotions, I'll drink a tall glass of water, and work on a craft project or some other creative endeavor, and post on the SP message board for support.)
*Finally, think of a little reward you'd like to treat yourself to at the end of the month for reaching your goal.

Also, check previous "Mini-Goals" threads to see kind of how they work - it's very informal, and please check up on each other at least once a week! It's how we keep one another motivated.

Finally, here is a corny thing I posted in another thread and have posted in my bedroom and on my desk at work. Please copy it, save it on your desktop, print it put, and put it wherever you can see it if you think it will motivate you!

JUST FOR TODAY: I will live through this day only. I will not brood about yesterday or obsess about tomorrow. I will not set far-reaching goals or try to overcome all of my problems at once.

I know that I can do something for 24 hours that would overwhelm me if I had to keep it up for a lifetime.

JUST FOR TODAY: I will be happy. I will not dwell on thoughts that depress me. If my mind fills with clouds, I will chase them away and fill it with sunshine.

JUST FOR TODAY: I will accept what is. I will face reality. I will correct those things I can correct, and accept those I cannot.

JUST FOR TODAY: I will improve my mind. I will read something that requires effort, thought and concentration. I will not be a mental loafer.

JUST FOR TODAY: I will make a conscious effort to be agreeable. I will be kind and courteous to those who cross my path, and I'll not speak ill of others. I will improve my appearance, speak softly, and not interrupt when someone else is talking.

Just for today, I will refrain from improving anybody but myself.

JUST FOR TODAY: I will do something positive to improve my health. If I'm a smoker, I'll quit. If I am overweight, I will eat healthfully -- if only just for today. And not only that, I will get off the couch and take a brisk walk, even if it's only around the block.
