I juat joined this group and it might be just what i am looking for. Anyway I'm just starting to do the whole weight loss get healthy thing and lately it's been really getting to me. I've been really upset about my weight and it has actually stopped me from hanging out with my friends because really it's getting to a point where i feel embarassed to go out in public. No one knows this because I'm to embarrassed to say these things so I am sure they thing that i am blowing them off or spending lots of time with my man, and I'm being invited out less and less which hurts but I understand that this is all my doing. Then I found this thread, and it seems just what i need. It has been a reminder to make little goals and meet them. Not only about food but mentally as well. I have a viscious cycle of beating myself, hating myself, and then eating something to make myself feel better. I think Babypop's advice or goal is great! So here goes these are my mini goals.
1. When i think something aweful about my body I will think of something I like about myself and focus on that instead.
2. When I feel really stressed out, I will do 5 streches and do something good for myself like start a project or a new painting or drawing.
3. I will cut out pop and drink water instead and try to get to 6-8 cups water.
4. For the next 2 weeks I will do yoga 2x a week and the spark exercises at least 1x a week.
Okay thats it for now I know that there are a hundred other goals i need but baby steps right? baby steps... Anyway thanks for this thread
with my wedding being next month it is crunch time so here are my goals for this month.
Eat 5 servings of fruits and vegtables (each) a day. Workout at least an hour every day no sugar or sweets (my BIL will be my rock for this, he never eats sweets so I will just stick with him) Do 10 deep breathes everytime I start to feel stressed
Well, this is it - the last month of the year! Get a jumpstart on those "New Year Resolutions," and get into some good habits NOW!
Punk Rock slash and burners should know the drill. For the unacquainted and newbies, I'll fill you in on the short version of this thread.
*Pick a few goals for the month (or even just one day or week at a time) *Try to have at least one goal that isn't just the broad, "I want to lose x lbs this month." (e.g. getting enough water, stretching, doing x minutes of cardio activity x days per week, handling stress better etc.) *Here's the tricky part: also try to include a detailed plan of how you will attain your goals. (e.g., if your goal is, "I want to refrain from emotional eating this month," then your specific plan could be, "Instead of eating through my emotions, I'll drink a tall glass of water, and work on a craft project or some other creative endeavor, and post on the SP message board for support.) *Finally, think of a little reward you'd like to treat yourself to at the end of the month for reaching your goal.
Also, check previous "Mini-Goals" threads to see kind of how they work - it's very informal, and please check up on each other at least once a week! It's how we keep one another motivated.
Finally, here is a corny thing I posted in another thread and have posted in my bedroom and on my desk at work. Please copy it, save it on your desktop, print it put, and put it wherever you can see it if you think it will motivate you!
JUST FOR TODAY: I will live through this day only. I will not brood about yesterday or obsess about tomorrow. I will not set far-reaching goals or try to overcome all of my problems at once.
I know that I can do something for 24 hours that would overwhelm me if I had to keep it up for a lifetime.
JUST FOR TODAY: I will be happy. I will not dwell on thoughts that depress me. If my mind fills with clouds, I will chase them away and fill it with sunshine.
JUST FOR TODAY: I will accept what is. I will face reality. I will correct those things I can correct, and accept those I cannot.
JUST FOR TODAY: I will improve my mind. I will read something that requires effort, thought and concentration. I will not be a mental loafer.
JUST FOR TODAY: I will make a conscious effort to be agreeable. I will be kind and courteous to those who cross my path, and I'll not speak ill of others. I will improve my appearance, speak softly, and not interrupt when someone else is talking.
Just for today, I will refrain from improving anybody but myself.
JUST FOR TODAY: I will do something positive to improve my health. If I'm a smoker, I'll quit. If I am overweight, I will eat healthfully -- if only just for today. And not only that, I will get off the couch and take a brisk walk, even if it's only around the block.
