I have a fruit allergy. The same thing happens to me when I bite into an apple, pear, plum, etc. I went to an allergist. He explained that I'm allergic to the pectin in fruit. When the fruit is cooked, it breaks down the pectin (which is why applesauce, and apple pie don't bother me). He said the pectin in fruit mimics tree pollen (which I am severely allergic to). He said to avoid those foods in the raw form. There isn't anything that can be done. It makes healthy eating difficult. I used to eat fruit as a child, but in my late teens this developed. :/

I haven't quite figured it out (and I really should just get an allergy test done) but there is something in apples that I react to. When I bite into an apple, my tongue and mouth become extremely itchy. On some occasions, it does trigger a slight asthma reaction too. But luckily, I haven't had anything extreme come about it.

The weird thing is, I can eat apple pie and not experience the same sensation.

I wonder if it has something to do with the cooking process or maybe the apple skin?

I have several food allergies.
- Pork gives me migraines,
- Citrus gives me hives - can't even have vitamin C that contains orange!
- Eggs give me hives. I can eat something that has eggs in it, provided there are not many.
- Fish makes me feel really ill.
- Aspartame gives me major migraines, so no diet pop or gum.
- Bananas: I look like the skin has been peeled off in areas.
- Coconut makes my mouth itchy

Eating out is not an easy thing to do and as my hubby is Asian, family dinners are a little inconvenient - I always have to make my food to bring... Fish and pork are the main ingredients

Taking it one day at a time...

I know I am allergic to all tree nuts. Over the years I have found that oatmeal is not for me.....I get bloated and feel like I cant breathe. I love avacodos and they do the same thing. Healthy fats?,,,,,Other than olives and olive oil I guess I am left out.

I am new to sparkpeople. I am allegic to corn, all corn including HFC. Also can't eat walnuts. Eating corn causes asthma symptoms. Sometimes I feel like I can't eat anything. I've learned to stay away from almost all prepared foods. I'm not sure why I have a weight problem. I guess I'm filling in the blanks just fine with other stuff.
