Dh and I did the 1 mi WATP today and yesterday. Hoping to make it a habit with him. We may also challenge our teen boys to lose 10 pounds. They'll need to figure out the exercise and best eating to accomplish it. (Don't worry, they have that to lose. ;) )

Don't laugh, but my oldest DD and I did the Tae-Bo Rockin' Buns. Though the name isn't quite appealing to me, the workout was great! I didn't know I hadn't work certain muscles yet...mmmm...I can tell now.

Welcome DKTurtles! You did it right. I'm not a runner, you might want to check out some runner teams.

I did my 60 min of low-impact step, I've been adding in some dumbbell work (not me .. real dumbbells!! lol)bicep curls, tricep extensions, military press, deltoid work and also squats. My pelvis is doing much, much better! I also ran soccer practice for my youngest's team today, just some drills and a mini-scrimmage.

Hey! Sorry I've been MIA... I'm (hopefully) back for a while, though.

I'm tagging in today with a one mile walk this morning, a 20 min Turbo Jam this afternoon and a 4 mile walk this evening. I've been walking 2-6 miles each day with my hubby at the local walking track.

You know.. I am not sure I can say it feels good. I really hate doing the shred.. but I am loving the results... in the last 10 days since starting it.. I have lost 3 pounds... and believe me I had not been losing like that for quite a while. :)

Rhonda - good job on doing the Shred!! Daily exercise just feels so good, doesn't it?

I did my low-impact step today, just that .. although I incorporate some dumbbell work into it.

For the last week I have been doing the 30 day shred. Comcast On Demand has level 1 and 2 for free.. as well as lots of other exercise stuff. It is kicking me hard.. but I have lost 1.6 pounds this last week, even though I have been eating on the high side all too often.

I am also walking 1-3 miles per day. So for now at least exercise is going really well. :) I hope to continue at this high intensity until I blow past the 180 mark. I have not been below 180 since before I got pregnant with my firstborn... so around 15 years now. After I get into the 170s, and fall and school start up I will decide how much exercise I can fit into my day.. but I know I never want to go back to no exercise.

Terri, you'll have to let us know how you did while you were camping!

I've been doing low-impact step 6 days a week. Some days I substitute gardening or biking. My back/hip issue has improved with regular chiropractic care, but regular walking exacerbates it. I am hoping that it is soon resolved to the point that I can scale back the visits to the chiro.

I'm now on a mini-streak! I've managed to get out the door for a walk every day since Sunday, for at least 15 minutes--and that was just one day, the rest of the days are 90 minute walks. While I walk, I try to do intervals of exercises (since I'm on a back road where no one can watch me...), and will add more exercises as I get my strength back.

So far, so good. We're leaving for our camping trip this weekend and I'll be in the mountains for 3 weeks. Hopefully, I'll keep it up instead of sitting by the fire all the time~

I didn't walk on Saturday, so I broke my streak. We walked again yesterday before church, though, and will walk today (Lord willing), possibly to the post office and back. It's downhill for 2 miles and then back, of course...

I'm on a 2-day streak! Woo Hoo! pffpplt~

I walked to the top of the hill again today and it's the first time I've done it two days in a row since my surgery. Talk about losing momentum! Sheesh!

I worked in the flower bed for about 30 minutes (weeding and planting a couple of new plants)

I should've done more stretching, but ds came by for some iced tea and a visit. Now I'll probably be a bit sore, but here's hoping for a continued streak!

I did my lower body and ab workout this morning...always a hard one to wake up for. There's just no easing gently into squats and lunges. emoticon

I can already feel that my quads are going to be stiff tomorrow.

I also went for a 30 minute walk. Easy pace though because I was with my wee ones.

I picked a couple weeds in between running my oldest to her tutoring, and my niece to work. Need to go pick her up. Doing low-impact step .. just 30 min today!

I worked in the garden today, weeding and planting a few more flowers for a couple hours. Also did a lot of walking, hauling dirt and the full/empty watering can on both sides of the house.

Yesterday dh and I walked to the top of the hill and back. It takes us nearly and hour and a half to do it but I stop and stretch intermittently. I HAVE to stretch more and walk slower since I've been so lax~ It's like I'm starting all over again.

Aargh! For the last two days, I haven't gone out to walk early in the morning and then the days have been consumed by...life, I guess~ Telephone, grandkids, emergency trips to town...

Yesterday I did 6 sets of strength exercises between chores and before leaving for town. Then I worked in the flower beds for an hour in the evening.

Today will be more flowerbeds, laundry, ironing (which requires trips up and down the stairs), cooking for the weekend, planning and packing the sleeping bags for the weekend, and that's only if the phone doesn't ring with someone else needing something.

So far, summer vacation has not been very relaxing~

Yesterday dh and I walked my favorite route to the top of the hill (1.75 miles uphill) and back for the first time in a while. I did lots of stretches at intervals and a couple of strength exercises as well.

Did some low-impact step and soccer drills. My girls start soccer camp Mon. I started them with a bit of conditioning this past week.

Today we were outside for about an hour. It started sprinkling the last 15 min. About 15 min after we came inside it bucketed!!

Tonight the girls have a friend sleeping over. Her family moved away 2 years ago, they come back to visit her grandparents periodically. She and her brother get a few nights to spend with friends so her Mom can get some one on one with her Mom.

Our dentist appointment turned into a full day of shopping! We must have hit every nursery in town and every Thrift store, planning flowers for dd's wedding in August (she wants homegrown) and some kind of containers to display them in. I didn't do any cardio, but was sure in and out of the car a lot!

Wish the boys would just drag me along! lol Seriously, it is soo nice being able to do things with the kids! I signed the boys up for tennis--a whole hour a week this month. Apparently they're in good standing since we've been playing it the last few years. I even lent one of my coaching books to the leader, a friend of ours.

Back on topic: I did a two mile WATP. It was raining here today. The kids had tennis in a gym.

Saturday was 4 hours in the garden--digging, bending, weeding, planting and laying out drip lines.

Sunday was church and grocery shopping...not too strenuous.

Today is a trip to the dentist with dd. Maybe more garden time this afternoon if we get home in time.

Puttered around the house all morning (laundry, dishes, cooking) and then spent 3 hours in the garden. We planted 38 jalepenos, 12 bell peppers, 30 pickling peppers, 30 tomatillos, and 150 ft. of pole beans--and laid out all the drip line to water them. Had tacos for dinner with son and DIL...delightful!

Okay, no hike; the day turned to rain.

I did get a good hour and a half gardening in tho! Got some broccoli in after hauling more dirt, and then covered it with plastic later since it will be cold 35* and rainy tonight. It sure felt like summer yesterday!

Dh and I went to go to a movie last night, but were so early that we took a 1/2 hour walk like the tourists. ;) I SO needed that!

Then the show was sold out when we got back, so we went to dinner. Got out with another hour to go til the next show, so we skipped it. lol

Then went looking for some workshirts for dh, so got a bit more walking in. Yeah!!

The scale actually says 192 today, which is down 2 since Tuesday. Hope it still says that next Tuesday--weigh in day!

Told dh when ds gets home that I want to go hiking as a family for an hour. We all need it so badly!

Boy, those dandelions around my garden are really huge! They must have loved the dirt I bought as much as the tomato plants last year. lol

I think the 30-Day Shred went a little better today. She makes mention on the DVD that those who are on day 6 or 7 should be noticing that it gets easier. I managed to hang in there and definitely know that it is working. Onward!

I posted in the "What's Happening..." thread about our two days of steam cleaning the carpets and spring cleaning the rest of the house before guests arrived. I was pretty sore from the steam cleaner, moving the furniture, and using the hand implement on the stairs...lots of bending, reaching/stretching, and lifting/moving boxes and furniture. I'm glad there's a "heavy cleaning" option in the fitness tracker, because I would have no idea how to estimate the calories burned.

Saturday, we walked over to the garden (at ds's house) to show the family what we've done since they were last here. While there, I had to pull up some weeds, so I got a little more exercise.

Sunday, I weeded in my flower bed for an hour before people started waking up, but the rest of the day was spent cooking, folding up bedding for the day, visiting with family and celebrating dd's birthday.

Monday we said good-bye to some of our guests and life began to slow down. I was actually able to take a nap, but then we walked over to the garden again and I worked for an hour while dh and ds built a new side gate for the garden.

Today has been light housework, laundry, changing the sheets on the beds, catching up with Y'all and trying to stay out of the last of the birthday cake~ Maybe I'll be able to get dh to go for a walk with me this evening.

Good morning,

I hope you all enjoyed the Memorial Day activities. I haven't posted in a while, but have been keeping up with daily exercise - I just take Sunday's off. I started the Jillian Michaels 30-Day Shred yesterday and it really proved just how out of shape I am! I managed to get through level 1 with just a few modifications. When I woke up this morning, I could hardly move, but pushed through it and did my 3-mile WATP DVD. I'm planning to do the 30-Day Shred on M,W,F this week and do other programs on T,TH,S. Thursday will be Tae-Bo and Saturday will be a long bike ride.

Keep working out and having fun!

Okay, I've been way too busy deep cleaning the house, cleaning the carpets, dusting those places I always avoid high up, etc. So, no 'regular' exercise the last few days. But this must be working, cause I'm down a pound--well actually 3 since Wednesday, so we'll see come next Tuesday. emoticon

Wow~I didn't realize how long it had been since I've posted here!

On Saturday, dh and I tackled one of my old flowerbeds down by where we lived in the trailer before the log house was built. It had become overgrown with Hypericum (ground cover), which was better than weeds, but much more difficult to eradicate! We dug out several large wheelbarrow loads of roots and turned the soil. I planted it with red and white geraniums, red and white dianthus, red and blue petunias and some dark blue lobelia...see a theme here?

This is actually a planter with a low rock wall/bence that is about 3-4 ft. wide and 30 ft. long. At the other end, I planted some bronze dahlias that I'd separated from larger clumps, and some yellow and bronze rudbekia, which will bloom in late summer. I'll have the R, W & Blue for the 4th of July, though.

Sunday, was church and dgs's 3rd b-day party.

Monday we set out our tomato plants in the big garden--all 90 of them! I don't know what we're thinking, but DIL says she has a market for them. We'll see~

Yesterday, I weeded for an hour, planted a few more flowers in the beds and then made up some flower baskets. Not much cardio, but a lot of bending and walking on uneven ground, which is good for my post-op foot~

Today, we're trying to push through the inertia to finish our school (dgd has grown roots!) and that might be all the exercise I get!

I never got a chance to post here yesterday. I did my Tae Bo Gold video yesterday morning and then my 2-mile walk with the children mid-morning.

Today, I did the 3-mile WATP Power Walk DVD. It's raining hard, so I don't think the kids and I will be taking our walk today. I've been starting to incorporate small (very small) stints of jogging into our walks and my children have been a great encouragement.

I did 3 miles on my treadmill this morning at a 3.5 to 3.6 mph pace - finished in just under 52 minutes. I've had this treadmill for over 3 years and can honestly say I've NEVER done 3 miles in one session. It felt great!

Speaking of gardening, our weather forecaster had an interesting bit of trivia last night. I live in NW PA near Lake Erie. He asked if anyone knew why some of the inland counties (mountainous) did not have frost warnings last night like we did here at the lakeshore. The answer was that it isn't planting season in the inland counties yet - they don't need a frost warning because they haven't done any planting yet.

Hope you're feeling better, Varina!

Sounds like a great workout, Mel! I was worried you were into olympic type workout--way beyond me! lol

Busy day. Saw my mom while looking for a phone for mil with dh. Then back to church for the Mom's Day brunch and cleanup. Took one of the kids friends home, a touch of paperwork with dh, visited mil and went for dinner. No real exercise today.

Tomorrow the kids and I will go work in my mom's garden, enlarging it and giving it straight lines. The kids are with grandpa and would prefer playing cards, but we're there for the exercise. lol

Then it's digging up stuff for the garage sale (for their mission trip) that starts Thursday night. This week is gonna go fast!

I did a 35-minute Tae Bo Gold (for people over 40) this morning and then got the kids out for a 2-mile walk before lunch. It looks like rain, so I wanted them to have some activity before being pushed inside.

Have a great day and Happy Mother's Day weekend!

Hope you're all feeling better today. If not, take it easy another day.

When dh talked about putting the big windows in down there, the covers were my worry. I told him if he expected me to spend time down there I needed plenty of straight sunlight. What a fussbudget, huh? lol They don't get cleaned out very often anyway...

I was so busy yesterday I didn't check in. No exercise yesterday or today. My youngest has had diarrhea, think she's got that flu since my niece had it .. and I feel kinda achy and headachy so I took it easy today too.

Window wells are fairly common in areas that basements are the norm. They are a pain to clean. Tina, have you thought about covers? www.windowbubble.com/ this looks similar to what my aunt used on her house .. just a thought ..

Wow, I've never seen such a thing before. They must not do that around here. Around here we have tiny windows at the top of the basement at ground level. I don't think anyone could get thru. them.

I wouldn't want to have to escape thru. one of your windows right now. haha.

Don't they fill with water?

It's an opening around a full sized basement window that's below ground level, that would be used for an escape in emergency. Ours are about 4' deep X 3.5' wide and tons of leaves and such have fallen in them.

Sounds like a great plan! We're not ready for that yet. lol

We did get out and do yardwork for a couple hours again today. I see transplanting and cleaning out window wells in the kids future... emoticon
Feels sooo good to be working outside again. It's been a long winter! Tomorrow will be cooler again.

walked a 5k with the kids this morning. We are going to try to do that every day. But not when it is raining. It took 50 minutes today.

You know, a couple years ago with SP is the first time I've lost any weight. Yes, and when it went back on it was with an additional 5-10 lbs. :(
Time for it to GO!

And the gallbladder attack lasted about 8 hours start to totally gone. Started eating less right then! lol

Took all the kids out to work in the yard for 2 hours! Hoping that will help get them going in their work--school and otherwise. I'm guessing once a week hockey or volleyball or whatever just isn't cutting it for them. We're just starting the personal fitness badge. I'm planning to take them hiking at least once a week, tennis once a week, and get a gang for volleyball once a week. Ds's also trying to get an Ultimate (Frisbee) team together that would play weekly. That plus their biking, etc. should help them tone up and lose some weight, plus improve bp.
So, I got 2 hours of exercise! Yeah!
Off to do school now... I mean the rest of it... ;)

Ashley - did you enjoy the article?? I found it interesting that it is actually harder to maintain than it is to lose. Explains why yo-yoing is so common doesn't it?

Alright Tina! 40 minutes of raking is lots of calories .. good job! Sorry that you capped a great physical activity day with a gallbladder attack! yuck! How are you doing now?

I still need to do strength training today, I did my low impact step and yoga. I could stop here, but I'm finding that doing that bit of strength training really makes me feel like I worked out! lol

gall bladder attacks are VERY bad, and scary sometimes! You might want to google for th olive oil and lemon juice home rememdy for gall stones. It got rid of mmine, and now I do it every so often to keep them away.

We got in a half hour walk before supper tonight, and I think I will try for a little more now. I am trying for 250 min./ week. I read an article a few weeks back (spark- I think) that said any amount of exercise was good for you, but didn't really help a whole lot with weight loss unless you were doing 250 min or more each week.
