I've taken the sticky off this thread, but I'll try to keep it at the top for a while.

That sounds like its a must have! I love his philosophies, and I have been meaning to research on him and ALL... but just haven't found the time in between going to class, homework, and going to work... I think I would enjoy reading that book...
Have a great Monday... and rest of the week...

"How to Practice" by the Dalai Lama. it's a basic intro to Tibetan Buddhism, but moreso instructions on how to be more compassionate and at peace with yourself and the world. the writing is very straighforward, an appeal to the masses kind of thing. (i hope that didn't sound snobby, because it wasn't meant to be.) it's been nice to wake up to, nice reminder to chill out and have a good day.

feel free Ms Love : )

although i have to confess, i haven't done yoga since i wrote that... excuses excuses, i know, but the morning afterward my husband was at home and i can't concentrate on yoga when someone else is around, and then the day after i was starving when i got up and had to eat and so then i needed to wait and it ended up just not getting done... and then this morning i woke up feeling extremely nauseous. i'm feeling a little better now. don't think i'm going to get the yoga done, but i will if the urge strikes. and tomorrow's a new day.

the one thing i have stuck with is reading that book while having my tea first thing in the morning. it's definitely a great way to start the day (and easily accomplished), so i think i've stumbled upon my morning routine from now on.

Sophia that is a great christmas gift, in fact I agree is the best way to start the usual hectic lives we lead.... I think I may want to "copy" and do the same as well...

Welcome, Sophia!

I'm so glad you've jumped right in!

It sounds like you're off to a good start this morning. The gift you've chosen would probably benefit all of us.

I think I'll go eat my steel cut oats instead of indulging my caffeine habit while I read my email.

Thanks!
Flo

this is a really interesting question... i know it was posted a while ago, and now we only have three weeks to go, but...

i guess i would most like to end this year on a good note with eating, exercise, and thinking. this fall has been a little touch and go with all that. i'm right now picking myself back up from a weeklong binge, and i need a little stability to get back on track. so, as a christmas gift to myself, i will start every morning with my cup of tea savored over a spiritual book, and not gulped down while checking email. once the tea's finished, i'll roll out my yoga mat and do yoga for an hour before starting anything else, and then i'll have a healthy breakfast. that's what i did this morning: a cup of green tea and the dalai lama and then yoga and then a green smoothie and a grapefruit. i feel so much more centered and awake now than i do when i leap out of bed and immediately rush into things. also, when i was doing yoga this morning i was having some trouble with balancing poses and for an instant was scolding myself, but i caught that negativity quickly and let it go, and was then able to balance better because i was relaxed. i've never been able to do that so quickly before, and i really think the relaxing and reading beforehand had everything to do with it.

so that's my gift to myself: beginning my days doing something good for myself rather than my ususal rude awakening.

Well, I'm glad I'm noticable! Actually, my entire last name is "Wroblewski". Blame my polish husband! I tend to shorten it for message boards, etc.

Thanks for the hints. Actually, I've already been facing this - I'm not losing much weight, but I am noticing that my clothes fit better and, actually, I'm having trouble keeping several pairs of my pants up! So, I'm not discouraged. I'm not worrying too much about my weight right now, because I LOVE feeling so good!

BM: I do a double-take every time I see your username. My sister's married name was Wrobel.

And, welcome to Whole Foods for Health.

I'm so glad you replied to this thread. I've had a lot on my mind this month, and I had forgotten about it. You called my attention back.

About your weight loss goal: if you increase your exercise, especially strength training, you may gain pounds of muscle while losing pounds of fat, resulting in a disappointing -- and deceptive! -- number on the scale. You might want to check out the article I've linked on the team page about other ways to measure progress.

I suppose this year, I'd like to cut myself some slack and stop worrying about pleasing everyone. This year, I'm (hopefully) going to say to myself, "It's okay to relax and just enjoy the season." I stress so much about pleasing everyone and with my in-laws here for the Holidays, I'll have a tough time relaxing. Wish me luck!

Oh, yeah, I'd certainly like to reach my mini goal of 10 pounds off by Christmas too!

Great post. thanks.

I guess - besides being able to consistently eat healthy (at least 80% of the time)...

I'd like to find a better way of celebrating Christmas. A way to focus on the 'Reason for the Season' and family. A way to make it less commercial without offending anyone.

Wouldn't it be great to have a wonderful time wtih family without all the stress of gift buying and exchanges -- worrying about who wants what, will they like it, and can I afford it. It seems all that takes away from the enjoyment the season SHOULD bring.

Well.... anyway... that's my take on it.

Thanks again for the post.... and forgive me if I offended anyone. It certainly was not my intent.

Hi, all!

A post on another forum led me to realize that it's ten weeks until Christmas. (Kwanzaa, Solstice. Hanukkah is a little earlier this year.) (Oh, so I fudged the count to get a nice number. It's actually 11 weeks from tomorrow. I chose to just omit Thanksgiving week from the count.)

Anyway...what gift(s) would you like to give yourself?

...a new habit established?
...a current habit extinguished?

...a peaceful holiday season accomplished by evaluating what traditions really matter to the members of your family and what ones have just become routine, and then preparing a little at a time? (look for Holiday Cruise at www.flylady.net)

...a relationship mended?
...a relationship ended? (Sometimes we let them drag on and on when deep inside we know it's time to let go.)

...kindness to others?
...kindness to ourselves?

...structured time committed to a home business?
...a decision to give up a home business that had become a source of guilt and frustration instead of income and warm fuzzies?

I started this post thinking about fitness habits and goals, but....

What can we commit to now that will bless us with a payoff three (or so) months from now?

Flo
