I am new to the group and enjoy eating healthy foods, but I am need ideas for cooking healthy. I do eat meat, not much, but I keep it to no hormones, no additives, fresh and organic if it is affordable. I am more concerned about the hormones and additives. I am a big fan of Tosca Reno but would like to read other materials from other authors as well. Thanks for any information.

I am so addicted to my computer, but I can so imagine what fun it would be to just go and do and not think about the computer. Have fun on your vacation... and hope you find what works for you with your blood sugar so you can get into a routine and feel more comfortable about it.

Thank you for the well wishes Deeann8.

Boy this is a learning curve for me. I found that I can't eat oatmeal as it takes by blood sugar through the roof. I also can't have 4oz of orange juice which I put into a lot of water for just a hint of something. I meet with a diabetic dietitian in a couple of weeks so perhaps she can help me balance these foods.

I will be missing in action for almost two weeks as we have vacation. My husband and I are not taking computers. He is on one all day long so he wants a break. We will have our smart phones but to be honest I have a hard time with the keyboard.

Wishing you all a wonderful 2 weeks. Keep to your plans!

No foods with high fructose corn syrup, sugar, rice syrup, corn syrup, fructose, sucrose etc. in the first three ingredients.

No foods that have more than 3 ingredients that I can not pronounce.

If an item has more than 10 ingredients it is too processed, I will not eat or buy the item.

Well my meal plan took a bit of a hit this week.
I have been a diabetic for some years. In the recent past few weeks I have been unwell and just not right!

The reason I found out for feeling so blah was my kidney function is not good. I had to come off all pills and go on insulin. So I took off any high carb food like the baked potatoes from the menu. I was not sure how they would affect my sugars. So it turned into more of a salad week!

I now face a vacation in a few days and I want to have a very low carb intake until I can get more experienced at the insulin use.

No meal plan for the next two weeks as it is vacation time!!!

Thanks for stopping by my page emoticon but it's a little deceptive at the mo emoticon ment. I made it down to about 164 (14 lbs from goal), the started to gain again. Over the course of about 4 years or so, I made it back up to about 267... and am FINALLY feeling like I"m getting back on track and am currently about 240. And I when I was so doing so well, heading straight for my goal I thought I'd NEVER gain the weight back. Just goes to show that you can't let your guard down for a second.

Have a great Sunday

Dee, good job on staying on track with your meal plans. I looked at your SparkPage and, gosh, you've come so far that it's awesome. Have you read Michael Pollan's In Defense of Food--it could be the bible for this team?

My week went well. My meal plans seemed to go well, which is unusual - there's usually a major bump in the road somewhere.

Congrats on the better fitting clothes. emoticon

So how did everyone's week go? Did you follow your plan?

I had a so-so week. The vegetarian lasagna I made last weekend was downright awful. It's amazing how a bunch of ingredients I love can be so bad in combo. I was mostly vegetarian but did have meat a couple of times. Wednesday I just couldn't drag myself to the gym at 5am--stress and a largely sleepless night did me in. So I ended the month of November with no weight lost but my waist and hips are down 1/2 inch. My clothes are fitting better and I'm feeling more energetic so I'm not complaining. In preparation for my blood work in less than 2 weeks (for annual physical on the 20th) I need to be seriously committed--so another plan coming up and some motivational reading.

Anyone else making a plan?
I am doing a weekly menu. I had not put a meal to a day but here is the list.
Soup/Stew, Spaghetti squash, Cobb salad, Falafels, Left overs, Chicken breasts & baked pots with veggies. Six meals.

Any special upcoming challenges to prepare for?
In a week and a half we are headed to Florida, part business for my husband and then a few days of vacation. I know it will be tough but I plan to stay in my calorie range and I plan to be able to exercise by walking too.

Will your local weather allow you to get outside for at least brief walks and fresh air?
Yes it has turned colder but no snow as of yet!!

I woke up with a plan in my head for the week. this week, it's eggs and veggies for breakfast. Sunday, it's a chicken spark recipe. Monday, it's a crockpot of tomato sauce. Tuesday it;s taco's. My work out plan is to treadmill at the gym before work, to walk at lunch time and strength train after work on monday, and thursday. there is a yoga class on tuesday and thursday that I want to try. It's a good plan, now I just need to implement it.

I slacked a little on daily exercise last week, too, but still managed to meet my goal for minutes and calories because I busted my butt on the four days I did work out. Still, I'd rather regain consistency than have to try to get everything in under pressure, so I am back to my regular schedule this week.

What a timely post. I was JUST starting to think about a plan for the week. I'll portion out as much of my food as I can. And my challenge is those dang computer games, and this week I am planning to limit my time there so that I can get in more physical movements - cleaning, exercising, etc.

OK, ladies. Thanksgiving is behind us, and today is Sunday--the start of a whole new week. Today I'll make a specific plan for the week--I know it will include mostly vegetarian food and at least 3 gym visits scheduled in. I really like the Giant Beans with Spinach, Dill and Feta and there are plenty of leftovers for lunch a couple of days. Today I'm making Butternut Squash, Carmelized Onions and Spinach lasagna which should be good for a couple of dinners. Both recipes re in the link I posted a few minutes ago for anyone who's interested. And I signed up this morning for the Quickfire Challenge team which gives you an exercise challenge each day--today I need to do 100 jumping jacks which I don't like but heck I can do anything for a few minutes--they don't have to be done all at once, just accumulated over the day.

Anyone else making a plan? Any special upcoming challenges to prepare for? Will your local weather allow you to get outside for at least brief walks and fresh air?

I tracked Thanksgiving, but did not stay in range. My daughter's first attempt at pecan pie threw me over, but I felt like I had to try it and be a supportive mom. She is only 16, and learned how to make the pie in her home ec class. Friday and Saturday are spent on leftovers. It was really cool to use my veggies from the CSA box. I made sweet potato, and two kinds of squash, plus a interesting fruit and nut stuffing that nobody tried... not made with butter, and someone else made a traditional stuffing that was loaded with butter and sausage.

Sunday, I will go back to the rules of eating.

I have to say I was very pleased with my calorie intake on Thanksgiving Day. I have really been doing my portion control and eating healthy foods so I seem to be back on the wagon. I did slip over the summer but that is all behind me.

I have a hard time with the calorie tracker here on Spark. I found one called My Fitness Pal. I have the app on my phone and it has been great to track my foods each meal, every day. I even pulled it out in the restaurant the other day!

Wishing every one good health.

It seems like time to start a new thread. Let's share our successes and our challenges.

How did everyone do over Thanksgiving? I did reasonably well mainly because my niece and her husband did a deep-fried turkey and I didn't much care for it, even if it was organic. And I'm not a dessert eater so that definitely helped.

Now this morning I'm thinking of all the challenges the holidays will bring and how close we really are to 2013. I'd like to make this a good holiday season but feel healthy and not declare every morning a new start.

This weekend I plan to try some new vegetarian recipes including the bean dish that's already sitting in my fridge waiting to be reheated (giant limas, tomatoes, spinach, dill and feta)--maybe butternut squash lasagna so I can try out the no-boil lasagna noodles I bought last weekend.
