i had a blend tec. It is electronic. Electronics can go hay wire. I tended to use the same speed for everything. did not find it as user friendly as could be. wish it had a taper to push down some things. It was great basically but I think the vitamix is easier and very basic. A taper is just a tool used to push items into the suction action of the blender. stuff that just does not get blended in initially. best place to buy try ebay or google raw foods and buy from a site tat sells gadgets for raw foods. I sold my blend tec and vita mix. I am back to wanting to do raw again so now I have to start over----enjoy your purchase

the reviews i read made not having/needing a tamper a good thing?
i ended up getting a blendtec and it's wonderful...i think a vitamix probably would have been great too...in reviews they came out back and forth for who liked what the best so i went with the advice of the only person i knew who had both and used her blender ALL the time also i liked that the blendtec fit under my countertop but i'm sure i'd have been happy with either
I really want to get a super-blender...for the works, grains, nuts, ice, etc.... It seems like people might like the blendtec more..I see there was already a vitamix post any thoughts? Anyone know of a good place to get one? Anyone want to sell theirs? :)
