I just noticed that you have Verizon too. I must have been typing when you posted - lol

My monthly cell bill is already too high, lol. We have a total of 4 phone on it, AND the data package that is required for the Blackberry.

The phone service IS tempting b/c it would be one less device to have around. But right now I'm leaning towards the Garmin 500 or 550 which can also be used for hiking and other things.

I have a Blackberry and Verizon. It's 9.99 a month, but I don't think I'd use it enough to pay that much. Someone in the Verizon store told me I could download a free or cheap GPS from crackberry.com -- but when I checked it out, (and tried a free one), I found out that Verizon blocks the GPS signal from 3rd party software. Grrr.....

One last thing: I have Verizon, and the service is Verizon Navigator. Probably other cell carriers have a similar service.

Occasionally if I am in a very remote place it may have difficulty finding me and give me bad directions. But that's usually when I'm in a place on a back country road that isn't on a regular map anyway. But beyond that, it always finds me and I have no complaints.

I have the GPS feature on my cell phone and it works great. I think the software is the same or maybe a similar version as what you get on a separate GPS device. But the one on my phone couldn't be better. It constantly is searching and will aske me from time to time to confirm my location either by entering it or I can allow it to electonically detect my location and it gives me maps and weather or look for restaurants and other businesses.

For me, I wouldn't want a different device. Before you buy one, check to see if your cell carrier has it and try to test it out.

Which one and what do you think of it?

I'm thinking of getting one... Consumer reports rated the Garmin Nuvi 760 as a recommended GPS and it looks to have lots of neat features -- walk/hike mode, muti-destination capable, iPod interface, voice and screen recalculations, etc. .... BUT when I read the reviews, someone said that when you change states you have to tell it OR when you hit 'where you are' it will just keep searching or whatever.... and not find you.

What are your experiences?

Thanks,

Dee
