Congratulations Jackie,
Giving up foods that become a major part of life can be a very difficult transition, but it's one that you'll feel so much better about in the long run. In May of '07 I was 278 lbs., terribly unhealthy with liver & heart problems, migraines, high blood pressure, early stages of diabetes and just about everything else you wouldn't want to imagine. Within 3 months of going raw I'd lost well over 100 lbs. and was healthier than ever. Anyway, take care and keep it up!

Hi,
When I started I weighed 140 pounds. Since I started exercising 2 times a day I have lost 4 pounds. I'm sure the combination of the 2 are what is making it work. I've been eating under 1600 calories a day too.

Thats amazing , not to mention fantastic . I've never heard of a link between diabetes and veganism before . Do you mind me asking how much you weigh approx.? I just find this all so interesting .

Whether you think you will fail , or think you will succeed - you are probably right !!
Choose your thoughts well

The book that inspired my BIL was the China Study.
As a family we have felt we should be Vegan, but it has been hard giving up meat. Over the years we have cooked both ways, so I have a lot of recipes we like. The hardest part is convincing my kids, and keeping the junk out of the house. It is hard to pass up goodies for me too. I've discovered Agave Nectar and use that for most everything you need a sweetner for. I buy it by the gallon, and I really like it. I'm on my way at least- a long road ahead to go.
Thanks,

Wow - that's fantastic!

How did your BIL find that connection?

Have you found it difficult?

I had to share my success story. I've been diabetic since I had my last baby-9 years or so. In the last 4 years or so it hasn't been controlled very well, I've resisted meds for good reasons. Well, my brother in law commited to go totally Vegan and managed to get his sugars down to normal in a month. My husband ended up in the hospital with a nasty infection in his foot due to diabetes and had to have his pinky toe and medetarsal bone removed, yuk! Those 2 things totally motivated me to try the Vegan diet. I just barely gave up the dairy products this week, but have been mostly Vegan for 3 weeks, now my blood sugars read 156 and 145. I can't believe my eyes! I'm totally convinced in every way this is the path for me to better health.
I'm feeling better, my thinking is clearer, and I have more energy. I am really happy I didn't give up, and I need to keep going. I want to lose some weight too.
