Hey Dangerouslamb81! Right now, I'm a White Belt, but I am going for my Green Belt training up in Albany this week. Five days of learning and exploring Nia! I can't wait!!! How about you? For anyone out there.....any Nia Belt holders? Let's here from you!
It's so hard to say! For me, I love the choreography, but it is so nice to be given the opportunity to express myself and let the music move me. When I teach in the gym, most people do not like the freedance aspect of Nia, so I come up with original choreography for those sections of the music. In the dance studio however, the dancers love freedance, so I incorporate it in. Most people get use to freedance and eventually learn to embrace it and love it.
There are no classes near me and I am very new to Nia, but ordered a DVD and it is a combination of choreographed and free style. Some of the choreographed steps are also flexible; that is you can move your arms and body how you wish, but the step is a certain step and sequence. I love it that way.

What 'kind' of Nia do you like? Choreographed or freestyle moves/routines? Personally I like choreographed the majority of the sessions . As far as freestyle I like short bursts such as freestyle walking. I love the flow and repetition of the moves, my body naturally flowing through them, gravity and life force taking over. What are your favs?
