How about OYSTERS? Spit or swallow?

For me it's a "depends". I like them cooked but haven't really mastered eating them raw or steamed.

I wish I didn't...but I do. I LOVE red meat! Give me a burger or a steak & I am a VERY happy girl! I try not to eat it very often & I AM satisfied with reasonable amounts. I ordered an 8 oz sirloin last week & that was PLENTY!

I LOVE me some peppermint bark!!! Or peppermint. Or chocolate. You get the picture!!!

I like Shepard's Pie, but only the kind my sister makes because she learned how to make it in Scotland. :)

Red meat is a favorite of mine, especially rare!

I wish I could say that hot dogs are a spit @AMAOLIVIA . But I cannot tell a lie!

Hot dogs are a SWALLOW!!! That being said, I keep them down to maybe once or twice a year & then I eat them pretty much guilt free.

Hot oatmeal is good. Overnight oats...just no! I've tried them 3 ways and they are just gross. Maybe I did something wrong but halfway though they just get gross.

Eggs! Love them! I will eat them anyway.

I want to like oatmeal but i struggle. If I can put a bunch of STUFF on it, I like it. I'm going to try really hard to get into some of the overnight oats & see if I can like those. There was also a recipe for a type of overnight oats where you do it with yogurt instead & it's cold instead of hot & that might be more up my alley.

What about eggs? They pack a ton of protein without a lot of calories. You can make them a zillion ways. I know some folks are allergic, but there are other folks who just don't LIKE eggs. Are you one of those folks? emoticon

I haven't had really good homemade tamales in YEARS. Like literally TEARS. And of course now I will be craving them. We have a big Hispanic community here but you also know that everyone makes everything slightly differently.

Where do you get THOSE beets @AMAOLIVIA ??? Regular grocery store or more like a Trader Joe's or something? Are they almost like a potato chip that way? It's hard to tell in the pic.

Chicken & waffles...my kids LOVE that combo. It's the whole sweet & salty & filling bc of the protein in the chicken. I would try it but would have to be SUPER hungry. I might stick to my eggs & waffles! LOL! And yes, I put the eggs ON TOP of the waffles & cover the whole thing with syrup.

I love tamales, my friend's MIL makes really good ones that I buy from her. Adding chili on top just makes them that much better!

As for beets I actually have been buying these beets lately and they are really good.

I do want to try to do more with beets as I think they can really be tasty!

I have never tried leeks but I want to! If you like them I might try them out!

Spit or swallow - chicken and waffles. I can't even wrap my head around those two things together. I'm not sure I would ever want to try them!

OK...well I swallow pickled beets but have never had beets cooked any other way. Like I've never purchased a beet & cooked it.

What about leeks? I"m actually going to try leeks this winter. I'll probably make a nice leek & potato soup. And I've heard I need to wash the leeks VERY well.

(I'm still stuck on chili...butttttttttttttttt...)

I'm like you on protein bars. Back in the OLD days they were most definitely a SPIT. They were hard & chewy & didn't digest very well if you know what I mean. But now, some of them are SO good you almost want to eat them like candy bars!!!

OK now hot dog chili should NEVER have beans...but that's not the same as real chili like for a meal. And I'm from Chicago originally & we had GOOD tamales there & I don't think I have EVER heard of putting chili over tamales. WOW!!!

Spit or swallow...pickled beets? What about roasted beets?

@MONIQUEDVA Both ways are good but you can also eat it over tamales, on a hot dog, on a baked potato, or in nachos or just plain by itself. My family eats a lot of chili!

I personally had it over tamales tonight and it was delicious!

Spit of Swallow = protein bars

For me it depends on the bar...some are delicious like candy so I try not to keep them around.

OK @AMAOLIVIA you have just blown my mind!!! So in TX chili with no beans is the norm??? Who knew!?!?!? So do you eat it in a bowl with crackers or do you put it over rice? What is the most common way to eat it?

Chili with no beans is the norm here! Believe it or not Texans don't eat chili with beans. It's just a meat stew if it has beans.

My mom is not from Texas her people are from all over but she was born in Arkansas. She learned to cook chili here though and that is how they do it.

Chili with no beans only because I was brought up that way. I really don't mind if it has beans or not as I love beans!

OMG pimento cheese is totally a swallow. But please give this fat girl a VAT of the stuff!!! I used to have a friend who made it homemade & hers was THE BEST!!! But she moved to Wisconsin so now I have to settle for store bought.

Yes, @AMAOLIVIA I think many of us grew up with foods cooked to boil the taste right out of them & then when we discovered that they could be cooked differently & taste GOOD it was a shock!!! People really do put things in eggs that surprise me. I would never have thought of putting spinach in eggs unless maybe it was a quiche.

Chili? What kind of meat? Beans or no beans?

@MONIQUEDVA That sounds like it would be good! I will have to give it a try as I like most vegetables when they are roasted.

As for cooked spinach I like it in something like eggs I am working on getting to like it by itself but that might not happen due to texture. Honestly my family always boiled spinach to death and once I learned to fix it other ways I learned I actually liked it!

i LOVE cooked spinach!!!! And it's so easy to cook too!

@AMAOLIVIA with brussel sprouts, I just go the easy route. I put them in a bowl cut in half. I put some oil in the bowl & garlic powder, pepper & a dash of salt. Then I roast them on a baking sheet and & put them in bowls for the week. I bought some yesterday so I am going to roast them & a head of cauliflower! YUMMM!!!!

Spit or Swallow - Homemade chunky cranberry sauce

Swallow - Only way to have cranberry sauce is homemade and chunky. Matter of fact my family called me and said I had to bring my recipe to Thanksgiving again this year. I am not at home so I cannot give you the recipe. But I will when I get home. :)

Hmmmm....
Spit or Swallow - Brussels Sprouts - I do not like them cooked like my mom used to..but love them baked with olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper! YUMMO.

There are a lot of leafy greens that I find have a dirt-like flavour. I don't know what it's all about, but collard greens and even fresh spinach have that flavour. The only thing I have found that make those greens palatable is to add cheese, and a sharp cheddar or a another strong-flavoured cheese at that. It's kinda like patchoulli -- it smells earthy-mossy-dirtlike. And it's not a scent I enjoy. I really don't know of any other way to prepare collard greens other than boiling them. They're really not my fave, but that said, I'm more than willing to try it in a different preparation.

No, not chocolate-covered cherry balls.... something much more sinful, and it doesn't include chocolate. Here's the recipe. You're welcome. :-P www.cooks.com/recipe/ys3d439n/no-bak

I'm gonna need lots of Jillian Michaels after the holidays. :-D

Giblets - best served to the dog for a real treat, and not on my plate.

I am trying to picture a cheese sauce on collards & am coming up totally short. The flavors wouldn't mesh very well no matter how you cooked the collards. That's funny. So let me say this & this is a message to myself as well as the rest of you (hello brussel sprouts). Sometimes as kids, we were FORCED to eat something cooked a certain way by our parents or grandparents or whoever. And that food might have been seeped in fat or lard or it might have been boiled so long that all of the color & flavor had drained out. So we learned to HATE that food.

But guess what...we don't have to cook foods in those ways. If we are curious about a food 9and we SHOULD be!!!) we can Google almost anything & find a healthier, tastier recipe & learn to enjoy new foods. Just putting this out there with LOVE!!!

By Cherry Balls, if you mean chocolate covered cherries...those are a HELL YEAH!!! If you mean something else...I REALLY like cherries to probably. LOL!

Giblets...I always FIND them in the dressing & I do NOT like them!!!

Collards -- swallow, but only if there's cheese sauce. Otherwise, the taste of dirt on my greens isn't appealing. :-P

Spit or Swallow: Cherry Balls (traditional Christmas treat -- and it has too many calories to be considered healthy!)

Spit or swallow: Donairs or Gyros

Donair Atlantic Canadian Style: made entirely with lean ground beef.
Gyros: made usually with a mix of ground beef and lamb, sometimes pork.
The food is usually served on a pita or Naan bread, some places turn it into a pizza.

Cinnamon - hahahahahahaha!!! Cinnamon is a wonderful smell when added to hot water, like a tea. I've purchased ground cinnamon and put it in a little pouch and dunked it in a mug of boiling water, just to get the smell.

Squash -- it was delicious with the Turkey & rest of fixin'.

Herbs & spices -- generally jarred variety, but sometimes some fresh herbs are bought for a special meal.

Olives -- either, pitted are best. :-)

Pumpkin cheesecake -- spit or swallow!

Jarred herbs & spices in general. Do you buy the jarred stuff or do you use fresh or make your own?

I'm so sorry Jo...but your response just totally made me laugh & almost spit my drink out. I had the mental imagery of bathing in it & having a massage with it & then snorting it. I'm sorry!!! I didn't mean to be catty!!! emoticon

"Swallow when added to foods." Ummmmmmm...what else exactly were you planning on doing with it? We are NOT advocating swallowing a half teaspoon of cinnamon all by itself in these here parts ma'am!!!

Butternut squash & spaghetti squash. I haven't made SS in YEARS...but I am seriously going to attempt it again soon!!!

Pumpkin spice is a favorite! I add some to my vanilla yogurt to change it up some.

Roast beef is a swallow because it is so delist as long as no one cooks it until it is dry!

Cinnamon I love to add to things because the smell is so pleasing. I need to research on how it is good for you though...

I like roast beef but I don't like ANY beef cooked to well done. So if you've cooked it until it's grey...no thank you I'll stick to the vegies!

Ok we're moving in to Fall (HOORAY!!!) and I read a really short thing recently about how good for you cinnamon is...so how does everyone feel about cinnamon?

Squash is a swallow. Seasonings I like the best: Club House italiano and greek mixes, salt & pepper. The Wife likes Club House Montreal steak spice -- I'll eat it, but it has to be light on the beef.

Spit or Swallow: Roast Beef
(I'm one of the weird ones who would rather spit than swallow roast beef.)

I LOVE squash & pretty much all kinds!!!

OK...let's talk herbs & spices. What's your favorite? Your go-to. Your must-have! If you fancy yourself a COOK...help the rest of us who struggle in this area. What makes EVERYTHING taste good & unfortunately SALT is NOT a good answer. LOL!

I have a love-hate relationship with rosemary. I absolutely LOVE the taste. We roast butternut squash with olive oil & rosemary in the fall. But I HATE picking trees off my food. Any suggestions?

Kind of the same with basil. I LOVE me a caprese salad. But hold on while I pick the rosemary OUT. I LOVE the flavor but don't want to chomp on the actual rosemary.

Oh Sylvie--You are so high energy...I LOVE it!!! And just like I told Jo...I would LOVE to hear you talk. I LOVE an accent. Hell, took me 11 years to get rid of the last one just b/c he had an accent. LOL!

I've not tried the cauliflower mac & cheese but I would. Totally.

I don't do peas. ICK!

I do like me some guacamole, but that usually involves chips! And maybe tequila!!! I saw an ad on FB for an avocado pie & I thought I would DIE at the very idea. ICK!!!

Being Canadian, I've definitely called Kraft Dinner KD , LOL
I've been in VA for 3 years and apparently i say everything wrong hahaha.

I used to love KD, but definitely love our homemade mac n' cheese way more.. Also, mix it with tuna and peas, delish! We often make cauliflower mac n' cheese, which is way healthier, but of course still lotsa cheese so still the indulgence we love about mac n' cheese. The cauli replaces the pasta.

As for Knorr side dishes, I'm not a fan. I do try and stay away from processed foods (even when in binge mode) i just love whole wheat pasta way more.

I'm a huge fan of asparagus too, and yes the pee is a real thing haha!
I had asparagus with dinner last night even..Yummeh!

I am not a fan of avocados either. I'm a big texture person, like the taste, hate the texture. But, my honey and I make fresh guacamole, and i will eat that in bits on sandwiches sometimes. Still don't love it though LOL , i think it's also the color that turns me off. But if I close my eyes and take a bit, i love the flavor.

Back to the Knorr rice/pasta dishes...oh wait...I know...KD=Kraft Dinner??? Right Canadian??? LOL! I am one of the few people on the planet that absolutely does NOT like boxed mac & cheese. ICK!!!

I LOVE asparagus & I am one of the small percentage of folks who get asparagus pee. Yup, you heard it here. Within I would say 30 minutes of eating asparagus, if I go to the bathroom...my output smells EXACTLY like asparagus. Google it...it's a thing!!! I don't really like vinegar on ANYTHING except occasionally a red wine vinegar as salad dressing. I like asparagus roasted or baked or sautéed in a pan. They have to still be tender crisp. I like olive oil & garlic & or lemon as conspiratorial flavors.

I have the weird avocado thing with the texture so I would probably NOT like this sammy/wrap. I also like the whole darn egg not just the white. And cooked tomatoes aren't high up on my list.

Knorr Sidekicks -- yes, rice or noodle packages. I only have some when I'm desperate for pasta, because it ain't all that great. It certainly isn't KD. :-D

What's your favorite kind of lettuce/dark leafy green?
Romaine and spinach, but spinach is defintely a mood thing.

Poms: I like them, but it feels weird to eat the little bulbs that they are. Oh, and you don't wanna know how yummy vanilla liquor-soaked pom arils taste over vanilla frozen yogurt. SSSHHHH! :-D

Asparagus: I'm still trying to learn to like it. My Wife made some for us over a year ago, and I had 3 head spears. It was ok. My Wife said they taste better in vinegar -- meh, not so much.

Avocado, tomato and egg white omelette wrap? (one of the local food shops makes this, and I LOVE them. The only thing I'd change is making it with a whole wheat wrap. No butter, no added fat, just S&P. Chomp & chew.)

Are Knorr Sidekicks like the rice dishes?

I do like those, but I'm working on eating less processed food. I want to learn to someday make something that tastes as good as packaged but from scratch. Mr Man always THOUGHT he did that, but his flavor palate and mine were VERY different. So he would think something was the bees knees & I was ready to throw up. I'm a mild-medium heat person & famous last words at my house are..."It's not that hot Mo..."

What's your favorite kind of lettuce/dark leafy green? Don't make me list them all...
Romaine? Iceburg? Green Leaf? Red leaf? Spinach? Kale? Mustard greens? Collards? Turnip greens? Or any other that might be your face...

I like spring mix. And when the mood hits I like the bite & flavor of arugula.

Right. Slow cooker did that part. Crisping fat layer on top becomes a place for flavour overload, so you can have a bit with every bite. I have a hard time not thinking of mashed potatoes when served ham.

Kiwi is swallow.

Knorr Sidekicks - list flavours.

I have baked many a ham. Never roasted one I don't think. Roasting would indicate low heat & very slowly, correct?

Kiwi Fruit?

When we buy a ham, it usually has a knuckle bone in the centre. Some hams are pre-cooked, while others are raw. All hams must be cooked, but the pre-cooked ones only require some reheating. We had a raw ham that we roasted first in the slow cooker until it was done, then put it fat-side up in a pan in the oven to crisp up the fat side. And add blended brown sugar and mustard to the top after scoring the fat to give it that extra little touch.

Have you ever baked/roasted a ham?
