Everyone seems to be doing fineand congratulations to all of you. I'm on Chantix and struggling. I seem to be OK for a few days and then I get a terrible urge to smoke. What do I do? I don't want to eat and I lose my temper easily. I'm a very easy going person, but lately, I'm edgy all the time. HELP!!!

2 years and 2 months.....Have not looked back once..The absolutely best thing I have ever done...Smoked for 53 years and quit in one night...I was tired of it...tired of the smell in my hair, clothes and house.......
You can do this...Stay away from people that smoke..Change your habits....Keep your teeth brushed...It all works..

I started smoking when I was 11, and just quit a little over 6 months ago, I'm 25 so that means I smoked for over half my life! This may sound really silly, but a friend of mine whom was also a heavy smoker quit and suggested I do it the same way as him, which was to read a book. The book is called "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking" and I have to say, it really did work for me. I will never light up again! I'd recommend it to anyone, and if you don't want to spend the money, rent it from the library like I did (I actually rented an audio book version and listened to it at work, but I'm sure the old fashioned was would work just as well)

With the help of Champix, which is miraculous, my hubby and I both kicked a 35-year+ habit for 7 months. Then, stupidly, during a stressful family time, we both lit up because........what harm could one smoke do? That one led to two, two led to four, and now four has led to about 6-8 smokes a day again. As wonderful and easy as the Champix made our quits, we both started having strong cravings around the 6 month mark, so those of you who are going through this now, do not give into it, or, like us, you'll be back to Square One again. Don't throw away what you've already accomplished because you'll be very disappointed in yourself. It's the stupidest thing I've ever done. Happily, we're ready to quit again, have set the date, and now know more of what to expect. Good luck to us all! It can be done.

Keep it up. You are well past the toughest part, but I think it is even easier after a year because then you have passed each major annual occasion.

Keep it up everyone. Here's to a great 2010. It gets easier I promise, especially after 1 month, though I am not yet at the stage where I never feel like having one. Others tell me that too will come, in time. I do know from everyone that we can't have even a puff because then not only do we lose the official quit, but the craving starts all over again.

Funny you should ask.....This is what I received this morning....

Your Quit Date is: Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at 12:00:00 PM
Test Time Smoke-Free: 609 days, 18 hours, 50 minutes and 55 seconds
Cigarettes NOT smoked: 6098
Lifetime Saved: 1 month, 16 days, 13 hours

How I quit..A friend told me that she couldn't go on a trip because of the Oxygen she had to use for breathing....I knew that wasn't going to be me...I stopped that night...I only smoked about 1/2 package a day but still I had problems breathing..

Congratulations to Pedal-Pusher and to all of us..

I have been smoke free 2106 days and still think of myself as a 'recovering' smoker. I honestly never thought I would do it, but the doctors gave me a choice to quit smoking or quit breathing........AND STILL I HAD TO THINK ABOUT IT!

You're doing great. I've been quit 43 days and I am trying to watch what I eat and exercise, but like you, my quit is number 1. That's a great thing you're doing, looking out for your quit and making it number 1.

I am at 45 days!!
I had a couple of bad days but got through them smoke free by the grace of God.
My hubby took me out to a really nice dinner
on day 30. He is really proud of me. Maybe I'll treat myself to a facial for 60 days!
I am really striving to create a healthy lifestyle and hoping to lose weight while doing so without making it my main focus - ya know with out losing myself in the process.

TODAY IS YESTERDAY'S TOMORROW!

That's great "268th day of being smoke free." It is hard, very hard but when you do it you feel so good. I quit in July of 2008 after smoking for about 25 years give or take a few. I remember talking to a pharmacy tech at the hospital while buying my last set of quit smoking patches and telling her that I had quit and she said don't you love being able to breath now....? and I just sat there and thought:

YES I CAN

AND YES I DO REALLY LOVE BEING ABLE TO BREATH NOW.

Today at 8:30am was my 268th day of being smoke free after smoking for 17 years.....over HALF MY LIFE! I am only 30, been smoking since I was 13 (stupid, I know) and just quit cold turkey on January 2nd, 2009 @ 8:30am.

Remember, it's not stopping smoking that is difficult, it's not starting back up that is the challenge!

Some things I have learned :

-Cravings come and go, but as long as you can keep a ciggy out of your fingers, the craving will pass

-When I smoked, my clothes, my car and my breath smelled like poo-poo....and dirt....TRUE STORY!

-Apples and pb&j taste so much better now that I am quit!

-I am not as angry as I was when I was smoking

-I CAN BREATHE!!!!!

"It is better to be hated for whom you are, than loved for whom you are not."
"You cannot change the way people act, you can only change the way YOU react."

I would like to say something about the cravings......forget them.....eat what you know is good for you..and if a craving creeps up on you and you can get rid of it..eat it...but in the form of an apple/banana or something healthy....but most of all..your job at this time is to quit smoking..that is your primary job and goal....after you have conquered that then work on any weight you have gained....One habit at a time is enough for anyone.... emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I've actually lost count! Which is a first for me... normally every time I quit I can tell you how long its been down to the last minute!

Somewhere inbetween month 1 and month 2 - prob 6 weeks I reckon.

ENJOYABLETYME, i heard that when you quit smoking your body is so used to the hand to mouth motion that your body craves that hand to mouth motion. Oral fixation is the reason people eat when they quit smoking. Some solutions would be try using a pen at work, it gives that same motion. Or chew gum. Chewing gum is working for me, and has worked when i quit in the past. Chewing gum is also the low calorie solution for the problem. It keeps your mouth occupied and your stomach under control until you are trully hungry.
i just quit...again...and i am 2 days in and feeling ok now. my longest streak was 3 days but i fell off the wagon due to 4th of july. i'm staying on the wagon this time, i can't afford not to. But i can feel that it is getting easier every day.

4 months and 3 weeks. It actually is getting easier each week, but I still get a craving now only a few times each week, so it is much less. Now to get those nasty 15 pounds back off!!
My only way to overcome the cravings, is just to pass those few minutes and don't keep thinking about wanting it, and deep breathing seems to also help me.

Good luck to you all too!

Congratulations to everyone. I'm on day 50, never thought I'd make it this far (I never have on any of my thousands of quits before). This quit feels different though and I hope it is. Just being here and trying to live healthier makes me feel like I'm doing something good for me for a change.

Congratulations Donna & Alice. Keep at it, it does get easier. I still get a craving about once every couple of days. a deep breath or two, and it does pass. Sometimes, it's like I am pretending that is smoking... a bit weird, but if it works...

Good for you Donna. Do your best to stay at it because it really does get easier, and you've done the toughest part. It's still not without a temptation maybe once a day (11 weeks tomorrow)
