TEXASLYNN: I use loose bay leaves scattered on top of my cornmeal, flour, etc. inside their containers in the kitchen pantry. They do help, but need replacing every 5 months or so. Bet your mom appreciated your efforts -- that sure counts!

This actually happened last week but close enough: my mother discovered her cornmeal had weevils in it. Gave me the perfect excuse to climb up in her cabinet and throw away masses of stuff, some expired in 2012. And since I was "at it" I used the opportunity to go through her spices, her dried foods containers. Big, big discard pile.

Last night my husband and I together figured out how to fix a tassle on my daughter's winter hat so we could FINALLY put it away. Yesterday I laundered the curtains for the windows in the sun room that we don't open up and today I will iron and hang those up. Did not get around to washing the inside of windows and cleaning the screens in the living room yesterday so will attempt to do that today.

Spent 30 minutes in a corner of the masterbedroom decluttering. This morning, while husband is still in bed, I'm also starting on a major clean of the kitchen, removing everything from one cupboard per day --- washing, tidying, reorganizing. Back to the bedroom later this morning after some weeding, etc. outside before it heats up.

Today I readied library books for easy return tomorrow. I also mended my youngest daughter's bathrobe, our winter down comforter, and a fabric hamper. Then I washed the inside of the windows in the sun room. I started menu planning for the week but will need to finish that up tomorrow.

Now that I've finished with an easy project (see DEN submission under 30 minute challenge), I'm ready to tackle a more challenging room: the MASTERBEDROOM. It's gotten rather messy: too many clothes poking out of drawers, draped on bedposts, bulging in closet. Jewelry is all over bureau and chest of drawers. Never finished decorating.

The den -- an easy room -- took me 13 hours in the first half of July. I would imagine that this bedroom will take me 3-to-4 times that. So I'd better get to it! This project should be a decluttering bonanza!

I'm putting away garage sale items like hangers, tape, money box, and bags. Too tired for anything else today except church fellowship and exercise.

Good luck with your spur-of-the-moment yard sale. Not easy to do, but hopefully you can take advantage of the traffic to your neighbor's sale. Wishing you Good Luck!

My husband decided today that we should go ahead and have a garage sale tomorrow. Our neighborhood is having a street sale. We've found items in the garage this morning and are working on the basement right now. I have a XXL bag of clothing ready and a few games as well. We'll be setting up tonight late.

Had plenty of time to declutter today but took a nap instead. The humidity is really socking it to me. I did manage to look in the fridge and determine what needs to be used first so I can actually use up everything in there before doing my menu planning next week.

We've encountered the same shorter life problems over the last few years than in years before.
We did find that one issue is that Energy Star appliances are more prone to electrical spikes than older types of models. It's not something that happens with just one spike typically but over time. So now everything from kitchen appliances to tv's to pc's have surge protectors.

Well we don't think our side by side freezer part of the refrigerator can be trusted. Shows 40* when its suppose to be freezing. Funny thing is its making ice. Thankfully we have a small chest freezer. Refrigerator was bought new in 2004. So it is 13 years old.

Society calls us a throw away society but stuff like this is the reason. When our children were home we had purchased a upright freezer. We used it off and on for maybe 20 years. Gave it to our DS family. He used it around another 20 years. It just quit a year or so ago.

My dad wasn't working today due to the rain so that meant we could borrow his truck and haul off the branches. After throwing all the branches in the bed of his truck we decided to trim all the beds with ground cover growing onto the sidewalks and put the trimmings on the truck to head to the solid waste facility as well. What a job but I'm glad it's behind us.

Taking a break from decluttering today -- hubby and I have spent two whole days cleaning out the attic - 6 bags of garbage and two bins of recyclables, mostly old homeschooling notebooks and workbooks -- and we have at least one more car load of stuff to go to the thrift shop (maybe two loads) -- and put several big things out at the curb which the neighbours were happy to grab (such great neighbours, lol) The only thing left is a huge chest of drawers that no one seems to want - hubby might put it to use in the back of the garage (I'm not letting it come back into the house!)

Our son will be stopping by tomorrow to poke through a couple of boxes of his stuff and we can donate whatever he doesn't want.

I found a whole tub of fabric that I had forgotten about - most of it is being donated but I kept a couple of larger pieces that might be useful.

Also found a set of door handles that I have been looking for for at least 2 years - I knew they were here somewhere so I refused to buy another set - they were a bit expensive, so I'm glad I waited. Our door that goes down to the basement has never closed properly because the door handle is broken - it won't stay in the 'shut' position - so it will be nice to not have the door swinging open randomly. I have no idea how they got put up in the attic, though!

But, yeah, my back is feeling the pain of stooping and lugging stuff so I think today will be a rest day. I did 25 flights of stairs on Monday but, boohoo, I forgot to use my Fitbit yesterday. My calves are feeling the burn, lol.

Hubby is going to clean the attic (sweep and wash the floor) and paint the walls that need paint (two walls are drywall, the other two are covered in little strips of wood planks - I forget what you call that stuff) then it will be ready to put stuff back.

Only a couple of bookcases left to go through and then I will tackle the kitchen - I have a bread machine and a grain mill that I haven't used in 3 years since hubby found out he has issues with gluten/wheat. And some mixing bowls and other dishes I inherited from my Gramma - I am keeping her fancy china (I got rid of my plain china over the winter so my china cabinet actually has room to breathe, lol ) and I might keep a couple of other things but the rest can go to another home.

My family was on a short trip from the 5th — 7th. While we were away our big oak lost two large limbs in a storm, so on Saturday my husband and I spent a few hours cleaning up the mess and stacking the resulting firewood. We got around to unpacking from our trip on Sunday. Yesterday I did some meal planning for the week. We are presently quite low on funds for food so we won't be trying new recipes but will attempt to concoct dishes that will use up what we do have on hand. This morning my daughters and I worked in the community garden and got our first reward: a kohlrabi— yum! Today is Tidy Tuesday so we'll also make sure we're keeping up with what we've already accomplished. Hopefully tomorrow we will start decluttering a new area. I'm sure my husband has a project in mind!

emoticon done & dumped. Started at 8:00 everything put away by 10:30. I claimed 90 minutes exercise. I don't claim it all because there were two water breaks and time running it out to the dump. That said I think I was quite conservative in the time I claimed.

So far OK. We think the drain hole in the freezer was plugged with ice. After defrosting DH blew it our with air pressure. Will have to wait and see if it plugs up again. I'd tried defrosting before but may not have gotten the drain all the way unplugged. Hoping it will work like it's suppose to. Thanks for asking. Made me feel like someone was still here on the team.

Defrosting our refrigerator. Not suppose to have to. Its been leaking water out the freezers section for a long time. Have to keep something under the door. Well this time it had more ice built up then ever. DH took it apart to see what is going on.
I also cut up some wore out shirt's for rags.

This morning I spent a few minutes going through old DVDs and video games - still have one shelf to go through - also have filled up a whole box full with CDs that we no longer listen to. emoticon

Last night Hubby brought down a one-foot tall stack of old fishing magazines to put out for recycling tomorrow (some of them are from 1986!!) emoticon

Still one piece of furniture out at the curb that hasn't been grabbed by someone - hoping it's gone before we get rain again. Even the two massive bookcases are gone, which is awesome because I was not looking forward to having to haul them back inside.

Also decided to get rid of a little dresser that I had started refinishing - It has a deep 6 inch by 3 inch crack/dent in the top which I thought I could fill - but when I got the top sanded I realized I couldn't stain it if I used Bondo on it -- and I don't really want to paint it - so I think I'll just put it out at the curb and let someone else take it on. I'll get Hubby to to haul it out tonight.

I'm enjoying decluttering so much I almost wish I had more stuff to get rid of.... emoticon

LINDAF49 — Close yet independent is a blessing!

Today I'm taking the day off from deccluttering to celebrate my mom's birthday and the 4th. I'm helping everyone gather up their belongings this a.m. so we can leave to take them back bright and early. I also have to pack for an overnight this time.

Amazing weekend of adult daughter beginning her move back in home with us so she can concentrate efforts on education and starting up new business. She will pretty much have the basement and hubby nd I the upstairs with her using the kitchen for major cooking but tiny kintchett in basement - we built this home just before she ws born and planned it s two family potential but never fully finished all of it - she will enjoy her homemaking and may even begin some finishing of main room -

All this to say I have been forced to do a lot of decluttering and consolidating of our stuff and junk nd excess belongings that have always just flowed to this space - she is a delightful help and encourager and I look forward to this next year or two of having her back so close and yet so independent.

This weeks projects will be to continue to sort, delete and arrange/organize things as she has returned to the city for her work week. Move will be completed by the end of the month.

Yesterday we all went to church and then to the beach. We got home at 11:20p.m. last night but I managed to put all we took with us in the laundry basket or back in its spot. Today I gathered up library books and returned them. Tonight I will file papers I copied for homeschool testing. Other than that I am just going to enjoy my family and make some pasta salad for a cookout tomorrow.

Prepared large container strawberries so they are ready to eat. Walk 30 minutes. Took utility bills around to pay. Will take recycling up to their spots and out of my garage.

Changed seasonal decor in sunroom from Spring to Summer with all replaced items put away in basement.
Next will be going outside to "declutter" gardens. Going to be a gorgeous day!

I was in the car literally all day yesterday from 7:20a.m. to 4:00a.m. this morning except for restroom breaks. Today I'm recovering and enjoying all of my children being with my husband and me in the same house. Today we simply put away all of the items we took on our trip like books, cds, and leftover snacks and drinks. Everyone is settled for a four-day stay. Making double food for a big family, too.

Yesterday I wasn't home much so I kept up with the basics and washed the couch cover because somehow it had sand on it, too. I'm thinking it must have been from our back packs.
Today I am drying the couch cover on the line outside and washing the sleeping bags. Once those are away I will feel like I have my house back! We are rearranging a bit here today as my three olders are coming home for the weekend and the fourth and we want them to all feel welcome. As of right now each does not have their own space but hopefully we can do something about that before we leave to pick them up tomorrow a.m.

I don't care for the spark emails in my regular account either so I try not to click on them. I also always try to uncheck the I want email reply at the bottom each post I make. Spark email is fine.
Today I walked while it was still in the lower 70s.
I'm washing bedding today. That's not clutter by it's my project for the day.

Spent some time this morning deleting 200 emails and 23 downloads. Most of the emails left are from SparkPeople. Must figure out how to deal with them!

Shopping, so I've brought in but its consumables. Except for a birthday gift for GGD, short set.
