I think mostly for collages but sometimes for ideas of something to draw. And the graphic arts classes use them to discuss how and why shots are taken. I had some specialty magazines of my son that has some great examples of graphic art and interesting photography angles that are very useful for that class.
Yikes to having to pay for trash bags---glad that is not around here---but I do like how little trash we accumulate with recycling---makes room for when we do yard work and can get rid of our clippings, etc in the can---figure that will also help with decomposition in the landfill.

Our garbage bags come with a tax on them - we pay almost 2 dollars for each 35l (ca 9 gal) bag. So, recycling is a must, unless one enjoys really throwing their money away in the garbage :)

How do the art classes use the magazines exactly? Cutting pictures for collages? Inspiration? I don't think you can make papier mache from gloss paper, can you?

I didn't even put our trash can out front this morning because we had so little in it. We recycle a lot of stuff--but are lucky enough to be able to take it to the drop off bins when my dh's pick-up truck gets semi-full---and we don't have to bundle them. And I recycle my magazines here at school in the art classroom.

I'm glad you enjoy getting them and reading them!
I only mentioned cancelling subscriptions because I used to receive some magazines which I didn't even know how I got subscribed to, then I never had the time or the interest to really look through them either. They kept piling up and I kept having to bind them nicely to take them to recycling and I was too overwhelmed to cancel the subscriptions. Finally, I did, they kept calling me to renew and I had to just say no, no, no!
Now I have only one quality women's magazine coming in quarterly, I read it and then pass it on to a friend. Even that I am thinking of switching to the online version but my friend also enjoys getting the hand me downs.
Paper is not my friend these days. I have already switched to the online version of my newspaper and have requested most of my bills be sent electronically.
The environment is one reason and then there is the task of binding them and taking them to recycling. And they are heavy!
There is also paper and cardboard collection day once a month, for that one must get up early on a Saturday to take the bundles out by the curb so they can be collected. The bundles have to be outside by 7am but not allowed to take them out on Friday night already *eyeroll*
In fact, I should look up when the next collection day is and use it. My basement is currently one quarter full with paper and cardboard. Since cancelling the paper newspaper, I am massively relieved only having to recycle the occasional advertising letter (which I then re-use for scratch paper) and stubborn catalogs (they keep sending them even when I've requested them to stop). Cardboard is another story since it comes as packaging with so many groceries and I'm not the crafty type to reuse it... except sometimes I use it to kindle the occasional fire in winter.
Oh dear, look at how much I wrote, about old paper. I only logged on to track my breakfast.

Most are expiring soon---but I enjoy getting them and then when I have a bunch, I donate---I just let them get ahead of me and forgot to take them in last year a couple of times. Already planned on bringing them in to the school today so they won't be cluttering up my car.

Yesterday, I washed my day through Monday. I had not done the laundry in three weeks, so there was a lot! I washed about ten cycles, I think, folded, ironed and put them away. I live on the third floor without lift, so going up and down the stairs so many times was also my exercise for the day.

Since my bedroom is freshly decluttered and deep cleaned, I also have on the back of my mind "do not clutter the room again!" So I clean off the chairs that tend to attract all the stuff and my desk. I have a secretaire with a surface that opens down and the past nights I have made sure my desk is empty so I can tuck up the secretaire at night. It seems to work.

Today, Tuesday, I am sorting through my two wardrobes. I have decided on the clothes that I am keeping in there for now. Only things that fit me and are season appropriate. Summer dresses as well as things that don't fit me or I don't like anymore are piled on my bed, waiting to be folded and given away or stored away until next summer.

Our summer was so very short. I bought new summer clothes and shoes in vain - I only got to wear them a few days plus a week long on vacation in Greece. Now to pack them away till next year in almost new condition makes me sad. I am even more determined not to spend any money in September. No clothing, no kitchen gadgets, household items, nothing except groceries.

Amazing how a clean room makes us feel good. Sounds like you are really working on cutting the sugar craving--congrats on that.
Hope to do a craft project to help with getting rid of some clutter in my craft room.

Hi! I don't have a car and I cannot drive, either. Our recycling center is about five minutes down the road from me. I have loads of paper and cardboard, which I can take little by little (as people are supposed to do, I guess) and also some old furniture and junk in the basement which I can have them pick up.
Today I went the extra mile and really tidied up my bedroom. Took out things that certainly did not belong here and put them away to their place. Threw some things out and some for bringing to the donation containers. Cleaned underneath my bed and the mattress, dusted the top of my wardrobe, and my desk is empty but for my laptop. I removed the overflowing hampers from my bedroom to the next room till Monday (Monday is my laundry day). Emptied the chairs and the bin, vacuumed and mopped the floor - wow! My room looks big and fresh now and the floor is beautiful.
I did NOT get around to bringing the winter clothes upstairs but I'm more than happy with what I accomplished. I rolled with it :) Monday I will tackle the laundry - ALL of the laundry and also do the folding and putting away on the spot instead of dumping the clean clothes by the door till I need them. Rest of the flat looking good. Not crisp, but good.
I counted the cleaning as my daily excercise and I am under my recommended calorie intake. I did not feel like having a substantial dinner, and had to make myself eat a slice of bread with my salad.
I'm on day three abstaining from sugar. And today I had only one sweet craving, after lunch, and I had a buttery apricot and was happy.
I hope you've had a good day as well!
have a lovely weekend all and I'll catch up with you Monday.

How about taking the recycle stuff right to your car so that when you are out and about you can just drop it off instead of taking up space in your basement? but the steps are a great way to exercise.

Today, Saturday, my project is:
to bring some stuff for recycling to the basement, until I can take them to the recycling center.
and to bring winter clothes from the basement up to the flat because autumn is already here :(

There are three flights of stairs in between so at least at the end of it I can say I moved my butt a bit, too.

Today, i decluttered a chair.
I had been using a chair for my desk which was cutting me in at the thighs and the knees. Not simply annoying but causing my legs to go numb. I hated it and dreaded it.
I also had another chair, more like fluffy armchair, sitting in the corner always full with stuff.
Well, after joining this group I got up, emptied the other chair, put the things away, I even found a forgotten bill, ouch! then switched chairs. Added a meditation cushion on the armchair and now i'm sitting much more comfortably and with better posture... !
Along with that, I also put away the iron and ironing board which had been standing by my bedroom door for two weeks. Wow, that looks so much better.
Well, thank you for this nudge, Team! :)) Looking forward to improving my room further.

Today is picking up the living room and dining room, then dusting and vacuuming both rooms as I go back to work on Thursday---then dh has to maintain the house since he is still home on extended medical leave. Figure if I am working and he is not, then housework is his job---LOL

I cleaned and reorganized my exercise clothing. Remember those plastic pants to help you 'lose weight' from the 80's? Well I found a pair. LOL. I put them on just for fun and can't believe I every wore them (but I know I did). Into the trash can and it feels good!

I agree on the books---and some are keepers---I do have a Kindle now, but prefer to buy certain books---ones that I am sure that I will keep to reread again and again!
Not sure what I will get into today---maybe clean the outside of the fridge---I have a gd so I have tons of magnets on it. Plus we have a doctor's appointment for dh for a follow up from his surgery last week.

* Today I used one of my empty colorful bins to put something in it and labeled it

and I used my clear shoe size plastic containers and labeled it: like...
scissors
credit cards
remote controls
batteries

Have made progress over last two weeks. My bedroom, bath, and walk in closet are 95% done. Several projects I am saving for August.

The kitchen is also nearly done.

I have about eight boxes still in living room that I plan to finish off today. There are 10 oversized boxes of pictures and wall hangings that I may not get to until after company.

The Guest bedroom is now complete as is the guest bath. Added night lights, wastebaskets and paper towel holder yesterday.

My son's room and walk-in closet are done except for a DVD holder that needs assembled.

Worked on yard and removed some really stuffy shrubs and trimmed the hedges and pulled weeds.

The workmen are to pour floor for the sunroom on Monday.

Sorry not posting but have been in whirlwind of activity.

Whatever works for you is the best way to do it---so good for both of you.
I, too, have been going thru magazines to put in the bags to go to the art classes at school in the fall.
Had my gd for the past 2 days so today I need to put her toys away---and going to make my dh help!

I have gone through a few picture frames..not alot..but it's better than nothing..I keep looking through the closet and dresser drawers whenever I have a couple of minutes..it helps me give away more things, if I just go thru a few things..

Good for you in getting rid of that stuff---and I agree, better to give it away than bring it back into your home. I love going to those parties, but refuse to buy something that I won't use---and most of the stuff is overpriced anyhow. Luckily, not many of the people I associate with have many of those kind of parties.

we had a community yard sale. I gave 95 percent of my things away, I barely made any money, but what was better than money was the smlies, as the customers could not believe the items were going for free, no way was it coming back in the house. I am an avid reader, gave 2 large tablets of mostly hard cover books away ( I love history so a lot of them were of that reading material ) Gave clothes away new shoes, dolls, Princess House Crystal, I never wanted it in the first place, but bought it over the years to help someone having a party Never again doing something foolish like that! I thought I had all the things out I wanted ,after a week I started going through more & have 2 boxes started for next years sale. YIPPY SKIPPY!!!
Any one out in clutter land start the de-cluttering process as it not only de clutters your home, but also the mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bet lots of memories in those boxes---take the pictures out--maybe plan on a scrapbook of them---you can create just a simple one with big pictures---and only keep a few frames you love that you think you will use for other pictures.

I didn't do as much as I wanted to in the office yesterday. I got started sweeping the front porch and steps. Cleaned the front doors, Did 4 loads of laundry. paid bills. Yes, I love my plants, they are all blooming. Roses, zinnias, marigolds, I had tulips in bloom. My mums are getting ready to bloom. Today, I need to do a grocery list, go shopping. I will cook a couple meals for this week, and put in containers.

Started on a section of the basement. Spent a couple hours filling trash nags with rusty tools and long lost widg-its. If we need a 1/2" hook in the future, we will splurge on a new one.

Reading about everyone's progress is very inspiring emoticon and makes me feel less alone in the battle against STUFF!

Last night I saw the floor of the bedroom closet. I used that as my "wrapping station" at Christmas (the closet is kind of hidden from the bedroom door and I could hear the kids coming if they got out of bed) and realized I haven't seen the floor since December, as there was a tape dispenser and a baggie of To/From labels at the bottom of the huge pile of clothes emoticon

Today is organizing what is left in the closet. After getting rid of the maternity clothes and everything else too big/unflattering I think the rest will fit nicely!

LOL---good one! but after I typed that I did spend time while waiting for things to load up to finish cleaning off mine---and then today while watching a movie, I went thru some paper piles on my coffee table and got that cleared too. Been super busy today with yard work and my walk but have managed to catch up on some laundry, strip my bed and remake it, and put my clothes away---so it has been a good productive day.

Sounds like you are feeling overwhelmed. Figure out what needs to be done before you start the moving and then it won't seem so overwhelming.

emoticon Had to wait for my daughters to get out of their music lessons today. The sun and heat always makes me sleepy. Getting ready to head into our home office to search for paperwork needed for registering with a new homeschool charter school for the Fall, and much needed paperwork for my husband's business.

My clutter situation makes it hard to put things away. I need to move some furniture out of the Master Bedroom to the Family Room. But before I can do that, I need to move the file cabinet into the Office. But before I can do that I need to clear the clutter that was B-Filed (boxed or bagged) stashed into the room when guests were coming. With all the rooms and hallway, the stuff has to be cleared out of the way to move the bigger heavy stuff in/out.

In the past, I've moved the stuff outside to make room to move the bigger furniture, but when I did that, there was an unexpected rain storm.

Oh well, to the Office with sorting bags I go!

The library project is basically done and now we are tackling bins full of s-t-u-f-f......This is truly a drag of a project, but at the same time exciting because it will get us very organized and if in the future we relocate we will already be downsized from all of this junk.........

Nice to find some old favorites---and if you discover those fitness books are not any help for you---get rid of them afterwards.
