I am spent.

We managed to fill a 2 yard dumpster with all of my husbands unneeded project crap and I also trimmed a row of evergreens that line the front of our yard. The branches are in piles out front but not hauled away yet. The rain came and went a few times over the weekend but we worked in between..

Can't do anymore until Wednesday as there is no more room to throw anything else away.

Congrats on finding the table again---I had to find mine this week, too---LOL
I think maybe my desk will be my project this week---I am busy this week but can tackle 5 or 10 minutes each day so it is not so overwhelming.

Success! The dining room table is now clear, and I have a table in the family room for working on my nutrition project. emoticon

I can totally sympathize with those who are depending on the men of the family to finish ongoing projects. We have many, many projects started here as well that are half-done. My wood floors have been half-done for probably 10 years now! But he has been busy with other things, so I can't really complain and try to keep my frustration to myself. If things continue as they have been for the past month, I'll be well enough to help with some of the projects, and that will be a whole other kettle of fish! We don't have the same way of working at all!

Good luck getting a male to throw anything away---LOL Set a limit on the number of projects he can have going on---he has to finish up a project before he can start another---hope that works for both of you!

Today with the help of my husband we are decluttering the front yard... in other words were throwing his "project" crap out. Going to try and save the man from becoming a hoarder and push him to choose 1-2 real hobbies instead of trying to be mr fix it.

Krys, yes the ketogenic diet has been recommended to me by my naturopath and I'm following it with the ok of my oncologist. It's to prevent cancer cells from growing, and is medically supervised (checking blood 4 X per day). So far, so good! I've been on it since Aug 28th, inflammation has gone down, iron up, and cholesterol cut in half.

Lecates, I too have to re-discover the top of my dining room table! We've just decided to use our patio table in our playroom (we would bring the patio table in soon for the winter anyway). Hopefully, that means I'll have a work space AND a dining room table!

Kyrs, you made a wise choice and did a good job on that one. We can eat "normal" foods if we watch our portion control----and an occasional snack when we have a craving is better than not doing it and then binging on it later.
I did get some Fall decor out last night but doubt any today as it is supposed to rain about the time I get home. Next on my list is to put all the flags away that I brought in and find the dining room table again---LOL

I'm not sure what ketogenic means, are you eating a certain way because you have an issue like diabetes?

We can not afford to throw food out, or give items away so when I first started with Spark I made up all the meals in our fridge and deep freezer before adding the food part to the exercise portion. Just the decrease in portion size was enough to get me started. Then when it was all gone I started filling the fridge with better choices. My husband and kids still have a lot of snack foods in the house, things that I can't have, but the meals are quite different. No more of 4 people finishing off 2 large frozen pizzas, those days are over. We've said goodbye to a lot of prepackaged foods.

Sometimes I read through everyone's posts and think -- that's my "to do" list. But for now, my decluttering is focussed on food-related items. Clearing the kitchen and pantry of foods that are off my list, clearing my recipes, and inputting recipes so I can track more closely. This ketogenic diet that I'm on really requires close monitoring (I check my blood 3 X per day), and close estimates of carbs, etc. just don't cut it anymore!

Sorry about that damage---but a good impetus to get rid of some things.
Shoes are changed over---a few to give away and a few in the trash.
Not a lot of time to spend on chores at home today---but hope to put out a few more Autumn decorations---some are piled on the porch and others on the deck in the back yard---I can get a few things out today.

My decluttering project for tomorrow is to tackle the back lanai. Our storage shed was severely damaged in a Florida storm. It blew the doors in and knocked down the back wall. What wasn't damaged or totally destroyed is in totes on the back porch. It's got to be gone through and sorted and stored.

My dog was not able to bust it but you know your cats so maybe it wouldn't work for you...

When I didn't need it on the bed, I put it in the clothes closet. You really don't need to get in there except when your dressing. Since I was out of bed and dressing it was time for the inflatable to fulfill its purpose and I just put it back on the bed.

This may seem stupid but I'll tell you what I did to my dog... I bought an inflatable for the pool and put it on my bed. if she tried to jump on it, then she got lightly bounced around like a trampoline and took off out of the room running. My inflatable also had a HEAD so it had a face and eyes, the dog did not like the face at all and totally steered clear of that end. Halloween is coming up you may be able to get one of those motion detector screaming, or booing sound boxes, offer your little furball a fun loving fright for her trouble.

good call on th etall husband to dust the collections. they are HIS toys anyway!

I have the same problem with my cats. I used to have the table full with books, magazines, things to sort out, this and that and it was where the mail came to rest to its final days as well. back then, cats on top of the mess did not make any more mess really.

I now keep a clear table and even put a fresh runner on it - but it gets full of cat hair within the day. I think I will just forget about having ANYthing on this table except cats. At least then I can only set a table cloth or runner right before dinner and then it will be a clean one.

The paint is dry and today is shelf installation day! Woohoo. We shall be doing that this evening when my husband gets home. During the day ill be attempting to reorganize some of our office files and pitch old papers. I'll take a pic of the shelf when we are done.

You bet he's going to be the one up there dusting, i'm 5'1 he is 6'2 i can certainly justify not having to drag a ladder through three rooms and a hall to do the job he can do with ease.

I have to sort through my boyfriend's important papers and organize them. (If I don't, they'll just get mixed in with junk mail and be tossed into a big box and kept for years as we move from place to place. Sigh.) Then I have a few pieces of clothing that need buttons sewn on. The washer and dryer in our apartment seems to be a bit rough on clothes, I think.

Hi seawave, I hope you have adjusted to your new diet! I don't have many loose recipes, I do have a small shelf with cookbooks which I look through for inspiration sometimes.

Yep, putting collections up somewhere where they are out of your way you dont have to think about them anymore sounds good :)

Well my decluttering has been going on little by little. I even picked out a couple books which I left at the post office.

Then a friend gave me a bag of books that havent found a place yet - oh well. Books will be books and I am always looking to not flow over with them. I have my four bookcases and that's it - if it doesnt fit, something has to go. Most of what I read i give away after.

My beloved (ex) mother in law who is also an avid reader has a house overflowing with books. Not only the study rooms, tv room, bedrooms and the living room but even the kitchen, the bathrooms! even on top of the pantry. They have a three storey house which has books in every room from basement to the attic. She permanently has a big basket full of books for people to pick out by her door and she is a wonderful source of free and quality reading material. Unlike her, I don't own my house so the idea of having to move books at the next relocation keeps me thinking ahead and working on a stable number of books week by week.

Plus it is a good practice for letting go and realising that things are, well, things. Even books :)

I 've went through stuff in the basement, took the recyclables away, gave away three bags of clothes and organised the rest. I have kept a few bags with clothes to give to my mother who is visiting this winter. Still lots to go through down there but it looks way better already, and there is a wider corridor now in the middle to walk through. Imagine that.

Next should be tackling the bottom of my second closet and sorting out the top shelves of the basement.

The husband and I are building a crown mold shelf in the office so he can display his many RC cars, trucks, helicopters, and airplanes. This will free up a lot of desk space and I will not have to continuously move them to work at my desk which he often uses as overflow when there is no longer any space available on his.

The paint is in the process of drying and it should be fully installed tomorrow night.

My decluttering today (well, for the week-end) is the kitchen and my recipes. My doctor and nutritionist at the cancer centre have just put me on a new diet, and I have a major re-org to do!

I think mostly for collages but sometimes for ideas of something to draw. And the graphic arts classes use them to discuss how and why shots are taken. I had some specialty magazines of my son that has some great examples of graphic art and interesting photography angles that are very useful for that class.
Yikes to having to pay for trash bags---glad that is not around here---but I do like how little trash we accumulate with recycling---makes room for when we do yard work and can get rid of our clippings, etc in the can---figure that will also help with decomposition in the landfill.

Our garbage bags come with a tax on them - we pay almost 2 dollars for each 35l (ca 9 gal) bag. So, recycling is a must, unless one enjoys really throwing their money away in the garbage :)

How do the art classes use the magazines exactly? Cutting pictures for collages? Inspiration? I don't think you can make papier mache from gloss paper, can you?

I didn't even put our trash can out front this morning because we had so little in it. We recycle a lot of stuff--but are lucky enough to be able to take it to the drop off bins when my dh's pick-up truck gets semi-full---and we don't have to bundle them. And I recycle my magazines here at school in the art classroom.

I'm glad you enjoy getting them and reading them!
I only mentioned cancelling subscriptions because I used to receive some magazines which I didn't even know how I got subscribed to, then I never had the time or the interest to really look through them either. They kept piling up and I kept having to bind them nicely to take them to recycling and I was too overwhelmed to cancel the subscriptions. Finally, I did, they kept calling me to renew and I had to just say no, no, no!
Now I have only one quality women's magazine coming in quarterly, I read it and then pass it on to a friend. Even that I am thinking of switching to the online version but my friend also enjoys getting the hand me downs.
Paper is not my friend these days. I have already switched to the online version of my newspaper and have requested most of my bills be sent electronically.
The environment is one reason and then there is the task of binding them and taking them to recycling. And they are heavy!
There is also paper and cardboard collection day once a month, for that one must get up early on a Saturday to take the bundles out by the curb so they can be collected. The bundles have to be outside by 7am but not allowed to take them out on Friday night already *eyeroll*
In fact, I should look up when the next collection day is and use it. My basement is currently one quarter full with paper and cardboard. Since cancelling the paper newspaper, I am massively relieved only having to recycle the occasional advertising letter (which I then re-use for scratch paper) and stubborn catalogs (they keep sending them even when I've requested them to stop). Cardboard is another story since it comes as packaging with so many groceries and I'm not the crafty type to reuse it... except sometimes I use it to kindle the occasional fire in winter.
Oh dear, look at how much I wrote, about old paper. I only logged on to track my breakfast.

Most are expiring soon---but I enjoy getting them and then when I have a bunch, I donate---I just let them get ahead of me and forgot to take them in last year a couple of times. Already planned on bringing them in to the school today so they won't be cluttering up my car.

I went thru the huge magazine pile again to remove mailing addresses, put them in bags and took them out to my car---they will go to the art teachers today----nice area of the living room is now clear!

Yesterday, I washed my day through Monday. I had not done the laundry in three weeks, so there was a lot! I washed about ten cycles, I think, folded, ironed and put them away. I live on the third floor without lift, so going up and down the stairs so many times was also my exercise for the day.

Since my bedroom is freshly decluttered and deep cleaned, I also have on the back of my mind "do not clutter the room again!" So I clean off the chairs that tend to attract all the stuff and my desk. I have a secretaire with a surface that opens down and the past nights I have made sure my desk is empty so I can tuck up the secretaire at night. It seems to work.

Today, Tuesday, I am sorting through my two wardrobes. I have decided on the clothes that I am keeping in there for now. Only things that fit me and are season appropriate. Summer dresses as well as things that don't fit me or I don't like anymore are piled on my bed, waiting to be folded and given away or stored away until next summer.

Our summer was so very short. I bought new summer clothes and shoes in vain - I only got to wear them a few days plus a week long on vacation in Greece. Now to pack them away till next year in almost new condition makes me sad. I am even more determined not to spend any money in September. No clothing, no kitchen gadgets, household items, nothing except groceries.

Amazing how a clean room makes us feel good. Sounds like you are really working on cutting the sugar craving--congrats on that.
Hope to do a craft project to help with getting rid of some clutter in my craft room.

Hi! I don't have a car and I cannot drive, either. Our recycling center is about five minutes down the road from me. I have loads of paper and cardboard, which I can take little by little (as people are supposed to do, I guess) and also some old furniture and junk in the basement which I can have them pick up.
Today I went the extra mile and really tidied up my bedroom. Took out things that certainly did not belong here and put them away to their place. Threw some things out and some for bringing to the donation containers. Cleaned underneath my bed and the mattress, dusted the top of my wardrobe, and my desk is empty but for my laptop. I removed the overflowing hampers from my bedroom to the next room till Monday (Monday is my laundry day). Emptied the chairs and the bin, vacuumed and mopped the floor - wow! My room looks big and fresh now and the floor is beautiful.
I did NOT get around to bringing the winter clothes upstairs but I'm more than happy with what I accomplished. I rolled with it :) Monday I will tackle the laundry - ALL of the laundry and also do the folding and putting away on the spot instead of dumping the clean clothes by the door till I need them. Rest of the flat looking good. Not crisp, but good.
I counted the cleaning as my daily excercise and I am under my recommended calorie intake. I did not feel like having a substantial dinner, and had to make myself eat a slice of bread with my salad.
I'm on day three abstaining from sugar. And today I had only one sweet craving, after lunch, and I had a buttery apricot and was happy.
I hope you've had a good day as well!
have a lovely weekend all and I'll catch up with you Monday.

How about taking the recycle stuff right to your car so that when you are out and about you can just drop it off instead of taking up space in your basement? but the steps are a great way to exercise.

Today, Saturday, my project is:
to bring some stuff for recycling to the basement, until I can take them to the recycling center.
and to bring winter clothes from the basement up to the flat because autumn is already here :(

There are three flights of stairs in between so at least at the end of it I can say I moved my butt a bit, too.

I will try to work on the magazines tonight---need to go thru and remove address labels and bag them up to take to the school to donate to the art classes.

Today, i decluttered a chair.
I had been using a chair for my desk which was cutting me in at the thighs and the knees. Not simply annoying but causing my legs to go numb. I hated it and dreaded it.
I also had another chair, more like fluffy armchair, sitting in the corner always full with stuff.
Well, after joining this group I got up, emptied the other chair, put the things away, I even found a forgotten bill, ouch! then switched chairs. Added a meditation cushion on the armchair and now i'm sitting much more comfortably and with better posture... !
Along with that, I also put away the iron and ironing board which had been standing by my bedroom door for two weeks. Wow, that looks so much better.
Well, thank you for this nudge, Team! :)) Looking forward to improving my room further.

emoticon It does make you feel better to get rid of extra stuff that you no longer want or need.
Today is picking up the living room and dining room, then dusting and vacuuming both rooms as I go back to work on Thursday---then dh has to maintain the house since he is still home on extended medical leave. Figure if I am working and he is not, then housework is his job---LOL

LOL, interesting find---glad you threw them away!
Not sure what I will get into today---I have pretty much got everything done for the summer so I am bored----still have magazines to go thru but that is about it. I sorted Legos yesterday so that my granddaughter can now play with the smaller ones.
