kitchen drawers -- my cutlery was looking a bit dingy so I wanted to scrub it and shine it up and since I was already there I emptied the cutlery drawer and took out all the stuff that didn't need to be there, cleaned the drawer and put back only what belonged.

also scrubbed my dishwasher out (had some rust stains) and am working on my sink drain (it seems to have an odour emoticon -- half a litre of vinegar should take care of it emoticon

My decluttering project today was delegation--I told other people to empty the dishwasher and reload it!

I'm working so many hours, with this new job, and it's always hard adjusting to a new schedule. I'm wiped out.

My goal for February is to sort out my craft room - - a whole bunch of stuff got 'dumped' in there in the last few months so I have to sort/purge and put away.

Today I unloaded a box of craft books and put them on the shelf. (I have craft books all over the house in different places so I'm trying to put them all together into one bookcase)

Got rid of some things that were garbage or donations and took out the empty boxes. Found some more yarn that can go into the donate pile.

It was only 15 minutes of 'work' but I feel like I accomplished something.

Tomorrow I can go through the remaining 2 boxes of books and sort what I want to keep and which books can go (most of them!)

I have a few loads of laundry to do today and I need to declutter the living and dining rooms. I should also work on the kitchen counter. A quick trip to the library is on the list too.

What actually happened is that I started on the yard. It was a pleasant evening, and I was ragged out from a long day of work, and my back yard is a gigantic mess. So I got started back there. Just an hour, but three large lawn bags filled. If I could discipline myself to do an hour a day....

Today has been de-messing because our monthly cleaning people are coming. We also have a furnace guy here doing maintenance work, and the dog will have to be removed from the house when the cleaning people come because she scares them--she's just noisy, and she's small, but she makes them nervous. So a midday walk is in order.

And wow am I enjoying how clean and awesome my office is now!

Wow Jyl you are making incredible progress. I've been rather tardy due to watching the Australian Open. Hopefully I'll get back in my stride next week and make some good progress.

Got about half of my closet done - I'm going to postpone the other half until hubby has time to fix the shelf - every time I put something on the shelf, the shelf kind of twists (because it's gotten warped over time) and things slide right off - in the middle of the night -- BAM -- a box falls off. So that's on hold.

Instead I got into my linen cupboard -- it's an old piece of furniture, a kind of huge buffet/china cabinet thing, about 3 feet tall and 6 feet long -- I think it's been here since the house was built a 100 years ago because it won't fit down the stairs so there's no way to get it out of the house without destroying it.

It has two shallow drawers where I keep washcloths and extra soap and pillow cases and then two hinged cupboard doors underneath where I keep my towels and sheets -- Got all the sheets and towels out and went through them all -- have a stack of towels that can be turned into rags (they got bleach-stained somehow so they're not pretty and they're getting kind of ragged).

One large garbage bag full of sheets and bedskirts and flannel sheets that I no longer need (we got rid of the double bed years ago but I still have sheets for it!) Some twin sheets that were from when our son was young (space themed and Thomas the Tank Engine etc) - those can go to the thrift store.

Found a little bag full of hotel soaps etc - hubby used to travel for work a lot and he would bring home the little shampoo bottles -- one of the bottles had split open and spilled everywhere - I think it was supposed to be white but the liquid was kind of a greyish yellow - I'm pitching them all. They have to be from the late 90s because he hasn't traveled much in the last decade.

Took almost all the stuff off the top of the cupboard - it tends to collect junk that people don't know what to do with - so I took it all off and found homes for the stuff or pitched it - need hubby to move one heavy box and then I can figure out what (if anything) to use the top of it for.

Swept all the cobwebs out of the one corner -- I can't reach it without moving the little table that stands there so I took the time to move the table and clean under it and sweep above it.

Straightened the books in the bookcase that's at the end of the hallway -- dusted and sorted and rearranged so it looks clean and tidy. Son has a bunch of star wars action figures (unopened, hoping they'll become collectible) on top of the bookcase that I want to put into a container and stick in the attic out of sight, another day. And continue sorting out and tossing books -- would like to empty out at least one bookcase entirely - - not sure when that will happen -- Other than books the hallway has one more spot that needs to be cleared and I can say it's all done.

Took my hallway light fixture cover off to clean it and couldn't get it back up so it's clean and waiting for hubby to help put it back - it came off easily but it's so heavy I couldn't hold it in place with one hand while trying to tighten the nut with the other.

Got rid of several odd items of clothing from the closet in my craft room and hubby has given permission to get rid of a couple of coats and boots he no longer wears so another garbage bag of donations will be ready for the next pick-up. That makes 4, so far, and one large box. I don't know when they'll be around again - early Feb. I'm hoping.

So I'm taking today off - I've done a fair bit in the last two days!

I finished my January goal of decluttering my bedroom - all the stupid stuff that didn't need to be in there is gone (although some of it I still need to find a permanent home for). It almost echoes in there now! I think I'll paint it in the spring when I can have the windows open -- the previous owner did this kind of rag treatment on the walls -- they're a deep raspberry red. It's not a colour I like, but it does make the room dark for sleeping. But it's time to freshen it up - a soft lilac colour probably.

I was going to leave the bedroom closet and make that February's goal but I think I'll at least start on it -- I think I can get about a quarter of it done today (the easy part, all the linens, most of them can be put in the donation pile) so that will be a huge step forward. It's not a big closet but it's packed full with all sorts of craft stuff and hubby's hunting gear and more clothes than I need. Time to lighten up!

I wish I had taken before pictures of the bathroom counter. Due to a spill, my makeup/junk drawer had been emptied out onto the counter but it has just sat there for like 3 months (at least). I finally went through it all yesterday, threw out a bunch of old/ruined makeup, cleaned the drawer, washed off the good stuff and organized it all. I have a FULL trash bag of crap from just that Part 1 project.
Today I will finish the bathroom counter when I get home from work and then tackle the rest of the bathroom. I never get this kind of stuff done because nobody sees it but us, so I feel like I should spend my limited time and energy on places that guests could see. No more. We rarely have guests but we're in the bathroom every day, so I've decided to make it a place of peace and tranquility.

Today is for catching up on laundry and picking up clutter throughout the house. The living room has kid stuff here and there and the kitchen counter needs some attention. Also, the bookcase in the dining room and my desk.

Yesterday, did some decluttering in the main bath and threw some paper clutter out from my office. Also, DH and I defrosted the freezer and decluttered it yesterday. Now to put everything back we had to move to swing the door wide open. More stuff will probably packed to give away and also pitched today. Off to a good start in the new year, I think.

Yesterday we did go through some of our 2015 paper. Some thrown out some needed kept. Go do more at a later time.

Today I did more in the bathroom. I took stuff out of the drawer s and cabinets on the lavatory. One drawer and cabinet at a time.

I try to unchecked the email replies box. I come back to my teams anyway. Gets to be to much otherwise. Anyone else do that? Sure would be nice if one could leave it unchecked if we wanted.

I have been pushed to start early spring cleaning after taking down the Christmas tree and rearranging the furniture. Got one dresser emptied and before I put everything back will sort through.

Today I will move all the donations that are in my car and take them to a donation station for St. Vincent De Paul.

I am working in the bathroom today. We have only one, all we need.
We are doing pretty good at keeping on top of the paper clutter as it comes in. We should go through filed paper and separate out the 2015 kept paper however. emoticon

Although I'd taken the decorations down Wednesday after my 12th night get together, I hadn't sorted them out properly and put them away. So today I did that. Plus two loads of laundry, and washing dishes etc. I intended to catch up on the paperwork that built up over the festive season but I realised the dining room table was starting to get cluttered again. By chance a new oil cloth I had ordered arrived today so, I cleared the table and put the new cloth on. Hopefully that will encourage me to keep it clear. I would have then started on the paperwork but a friend turned up with a gift thanking me for Wednesday's 'bit of a do'

Gave the bathroom a quick clean. Being hypothyroid I lose a lot of hair. So swipt up the floor in there as well as counter, & stool. Cleaned light fixture in dinning area. No clutter, just cleaning.

Cleaned counter and back splash, moved stuff and got under. Also cleaned outside of cubords. No clutter there to get rid of. Took bills around to pay, shredded papers. Got all house trash out for city collection. Took recycle stuff to drop off bins.

Put away the few Christmas decorations that we have, put the dining room table back together (take out the table leaf, change the tablecloth, etc) Maybe clean out the fridge, it's looking a little worn out.

Going to focus on the master bedroom starting tomorrow -- a room a month should get this place back to where I want it by summer, I hope.
