A few weeks ago I cleared a load of clutter from various shelves. Problem was I started running out of time so put a lot of it in bags to sort out later. Of course I haven't got round to it. Now I'm trying to deal with my insomnia and I know somewhere in one of those bags, there are some magnesium tablets. So project for this afternoon/evening is to start going through the bags and dealing with the 'stuff' properly!

Back at it after two weeks with all four girls here and lots of activity. D20 and D18 went through all their clothing to decide what to take to college this fall, save for winter, give away (to me and D13), add to the costume pile, or throw away (or add to the rag pile). Now D13 needs to once again go through her clothes to see what she's outgrown to add to D10's fall wardrobe. She will start on that this afternoon.

Today D13 and I harvested vegetables from the community garden. After that I began cleaning out the refrigerator to make room for the produce we brought home.

Wow, Jyl, you should have good feelings all around -- you've really accomplished a lot. I'm taking the weekend off, just an easy job of cleaning out my shelves and drawers in my kitchen island. I don't expect to be able to get rid of anything but at least it will be freshly cleaned.

This week I've done a lot!

I cleaned out my pantry and organized everything -it wasn't too bad but I have two food cupboards and I want to eliminate the smaller one eventually. Had a lot of food that was from our son, stuff we can't eat that he didn't take with him when he moved out. I guess I thought I was hanging on to it for him so I hadn't cleared it out. The whole pantry is much more accessible now.

Also still sorting through a couple of bins of misc. junk that I had gathered up during our big decluttering session in July. Most of it can go, but I have to sort through it so I'm doing 10 minutes a day on that job. And I found still another box of homeschooling books that can be donated -- that HAS to be the last of them! emoticon

This morning hubby helped me move a table out of the basement to put at the curb with a FREE sign on it - it was awkward to move by myself or it would've been gone already.

And I sorted through a little shelving unit in the garage and got rid of a bunch of junk/garbage and washed it down and now it's usable again and not just heaped with stuff. emoticon Have two more units to do but that's enough for one day.

Also swept half of the garage and my last job is to make some room in the back of the garage for another set of snow tires that we are getting for my 'new' (used) car next week. My old car Betsy is 19 years old and so we're decluttering her out of the laneway this week. She's had a good life but it's time for her to go (I call her Betsy because her license plate starts with BTZE) (I always name our cars, lol) emoticon

I am almost at the end of decluttering - there are only a few things that I need to have hubby's help to haul away - a bed, a bookcase and a recliner - but he has to be careful because he has back/neck problems so he's not always 'up' to doing the heavy lifting and these things need to be taken to the dump. emoticon

I didn't quite get rid of as many books over the summer as I thought I would but I can maybe do another round next spring. I have an old encyclopedia set that I have to rip the covers off and recycle the insides (no thrift stores will accept encyclopedias any more) - that will be a job for next month, I think.

Hubby will be retiring in 3-4 years and if we were to downsize we'd still have to make some hard choices about stuff - hubby convinced me to keep my big oak desk - but this might be the last time it avoids being put at the curb. And we definitely have to get rid of more books - we got rid of 5 tall bookcases but we still have too many. I don't want to have to move them all.

So, still decluttering here, but at a slower pace - only have one box of donations for the thrift store and it's not even half full - kind of a good feeling! emoticon

My mom was good at decorating the house for all occasions. I never was. I like the idea. But I end up in a bad mood because you end up having boxes of stuff that you take down, and have to stow it away properly or you can't find it NEXT time. Maybe when the kids are grown and I have time on my hands, it will be more fun for me.
I applaud YOU for being able to do it!

As for ME, I'm still in summer mode. My summer never really got started yet.

I did NOT get my extra books packed away yesterday. Plan to do it today. I got a BOX ready for it, anyhow. That's a beginning!
I also have to go swimming today, bag and freeze some vegetable soup and some stuffed pepper soup, relax on my patio with a good library book and a few more things.
Hoping to box up those books before NEW CURRICULUM COMES IN THE MAIL. EEEEEK!

And we all lived happily ever after...

Plan on switching some summer decor to fall in the 5 rooms I do. Would like to be done by September 1 instead of running late as I was with the spring & summer. Want to get back the feelings of joy and renewal I used to feel, instead of tackling it as a chore. Of course, the rooms HAVE to be all neat and tidy before the switch happens so that slows me up a bit.

Our school year is going to start later than usual- October- because of the busy-ness we've had for the last few years taking care of my mom.
We've had such a tough 2017 so far, with my Mom passing away during Christmas (the mid-year chance to actually RELAX for a month) and dealing with all the things that go along with that.
And then the UNEXPECTED death of my Dad on June 8th....we just didn't have ANY DOWN TIME yet.
We TOTALLY NEED down-time.
So I think we are going to begin in October instead of September.
The notifications are being MAILED right now, so THAT'S out of the way.

Homeschooling is such a blessing in so many ways, but SCHEDULING to meet the family's needs sure makes the Top 5!

Our local public schools begin TODAY.

I have always put my foot down and refused to begin before the Day After Labor Day. I mean, really, what good is Summer, when school never ends until mid-June and begins in mid- August. EEK!
My goal was always to be done by Memorial Day, but, in my 18 years of home-schooling, I've not achieved that very often.

With the notifications out of the way, I think I'm going to go through my library and box up any TEXTBOOKS that we are NOT using this year. Less chance of the current books getting misplaced among the hundreds. lol

I need to be held accountable, so I'm going to come back here and let you know how much I did.

And we all lived happily ever after...

Yesterday I did manage to finish up the decluttering of my 7-drawer file cabinet. Want to touch-up paint the top, but that will have to wait for another day. Tied-up with non-clutter tasks today.

Wow - waiting for October to start schooling? Our public schools in town already started this past Monday! That's so strange to me who never started until immediately after Labor Day.

Just don't stress over those notifications. One step at a time and you'll manage just fine. Won't it be nice when they're done!

For me, I'm hoping to finish up the decluttering of my kitchen 7-drawer file cabinet today -- just 2 drawers left. I can do this.

1. Finalizing my notifications. I've got so many copies to make that it boggles my mind. I hope I don't screw it up!
2. Trying to tidy up and organize some things I brought from Mom's house. But I keep getting distracted with more important things! Once these School Notifications are out of the way, I should start getting somewhere. We are not beginning our school year until October, so I should have a good chunk of time coming my way soon!

Yesterday I finally tackled the first drawer of my kitchen 7-drawer file cabinet. Reduced "stuff" in it by 3/4's. Today I'll get the 2nd drawer done. And work some on another project -- as yet undetermined.

Finish up the laundry and do a bit of ironing (instead of waiting until I need it).
Continue work on my closet.

Aah, but while you're away from home, it's not getting any messier! And I'm sure your family & friends appreciated your help and company more than any house ever could! emoticon

We also spent time with friends and ate too much at an early evening metal detector hunt and potluck buffet. Many hands make light work.

My project for today will be to finish up the scrubbing & reorganization of my kitchen cabinets -- the under-the-sink ones. Those are always the messiest, but hold the most potential for decluttering.

Yesterday I pitched in at my parent's house with the family backyard barbeque. Lots of set up, clean up, and tear down. Today I helped with lunch prep and washed all the lunch dishes. This evening my friend and I cleaned the fellowship hall after our family fellowship meal and activity. Not getting anything done at home!

I started working on my bedroom walk in closet which was packed with clothes and everything else that didn't have a spot to be in out in the house. I pulled out a bunch of things to go to a local charity thrift shop and then found the shop was closed until the 29th. So I'm making piles in the garage. Just wanted to get the stuff out of the house. Now to begin culling and organizing the clothes that are left in the closet. I'm not very good at that and have three different sizes of clothes and way, way, too many shoes.

Yesterday I washed the windows, inside and out, of the upstairs hallway. It was tricky to get the outsides clean as the window can't open up all the way because it hits the gutter. Today I realize I bruised my arm up a bit but I think I've never seen those windows cleaner! What women do!

Today I am taking my four girls to my parents house to visit with my sister's family. I will help my mom keep up with the clan. Really a day off for me.

Jyl As the saying goes...A place for everything and everything in its place. It sounds like you are nearly there!

Today we are starting to sort "stuff" in the attic cleaning as we go. This may take days!

Today I am sorting out and purging old dayplanners - I have way too many planners and binders and pages - I buy them and then I don't like the texture of the paper, or the lines are too close together or I don't like the layout of the daily pages...so they just sit, unused or partially used...and then I find another one to buy/try. emoticon

Got rid of two that I stopped using and have two more Filofax binders that can go into the donate box (donate box, singular....not boxes plural, for the first time in 4 years, lol)

And got rid of a stack of old Franklin Covey calendar pages from 2015/2016. I was keeping them to use as 'scrap paper' but they are unsightly and keep falling over - and I will never need that much scrap paper if I live to be 150....so into the recycle bin they go... emoticon

Still need to go through and organize/purge a couple of boxes of stuff in the craft room but will leave them til we have a cool day--it's hot up there this week. Ditto for the kitchen pantry - I have a lot of canned food that DH can't eat that I need to get rid of / or donate to the soup kitchen. emoticon

Other than those two spots, the house is done -- It's SO great having things where they should be and not having too much of everything.

My one regret is that somehow my little embroidery scissors got donated - they were a little expensive because I wanted a good pair to last a lifetime - now they will last someone else's lifetime, lol. emoticon

Yesterday I sent out the homeschool notification, did menu planning, and grocery shopping. I threw out coupons for restaurants and car repairs that were expired.

Today I took the day off from home cleaning/decluttering to enjoy a special day for my husband and me, our 30th anniversary! Got to get the trash out to the road this evening though.

Taking down light fixtures because of tiny little bugs is so frustrating! Some ceiling lamp designs make it so difficult.

Yesterday while I tackled washing the windows (inside/outside) of my daughters' room, I had them declutter the tops of their dressers. Also my husband had to replace their light switch as I pushed the bunk beds into it the other day and accidentally broke it after we put sheets on the beds. We had to turn the switch off at the breaker and found out that all of the rooms on the second floor and the steps leading up to it were on the same one except for the bathroom. This made for a very interesting night.

Today I plan to take down their overhead light fixture to clean it and dump out all of the bugs. I also am working on my homeschool notification to the local superintendent. Once I get this done and sent out my mind will be a little less cluttered.

Got the old refrigerator taken out of the house. I used it as long as I could. But this morning the milk was clabbered. I hadn't been keeping any meat in the freezer for a good month.
Then DH and I went to a larger town about a hour away and shopped for a new one. Found a 14 cub foot that we decided we could get in the house by ourself. Which we still struggled. I told store saleperson I wasn't happy old one only lasted 13 years. He thought that was good for today's appliances. He said they normally last 8 to 10 years. Wow! That is just not long enough for the price we pay. And I don't replace mine just to have the latest in appliances. There is no pride in what is being built.

Yesterday I had a problem winding the bobbin because the mechanism that does the work has a broken o ring. Looked up what to do online and found I have to replace the whole mechanism. So I didn't fix the coat since I had no pink thread in the bobbin. I had enough white thread ready to go and decided to let my daughter (13) give it a try. She thought that was fun.

Today I am going to help my husband repair or throw out toys if we determine they cannot be repaired with an easy fix. He started on this last evening and would like to get through them this week if possible between freelance work. We have a few little gems that we want to fix and keep just because they bring back memories.

Yesterday evening I helped my daughters declutter their room. We threw out a broken mirror, a snap bracelet that no longer snapped, a cracked frisbee that had been stepped on, and a few signs hanging on the door to their room that were no longer needed.

Today I plan to mend the kitchen door's curtain and a winter coat that was given to us recently. I also hope to take care of e-mails that are piling up.

Finished cleaning out, scrubbing & reorganizing 11th kitchen cabinet -- mostly glassware. Inventoried contents of cabinets #3, 4 & 5. And the day is still young!
