I have been working on Kellys Missions in the kitchen this week. Now that I have gotten back into the FlyLady routine the past few months, I am amazed at how little time it takes to keep a room nice looking. I am still not ready for the detailed cleaning list, but I did do a few of those things also!

Leslie, you accomplished a very important thing yesterday -- taking care of your health makes it possible to do all of these other things today!

Yes, yes, BabySteps. BabySteps are good. You can do this!

I did grocery shopping today (read: lots of walking) so that took up a good bit of my time. I got in my 15 min TV-exercise, and one 15 min of decluttering. I might have to go do the other before I go to bed. I can do anything for 15 minutes. Yes.

You go girl!

Wow, Alie Jo, you accomplished a lot!!
My whole day yesterday was taken up with a trip to see a doctor....so I didn't get anything done here at all.....
Today, I am off to a very late start, so not sure how I will do today either.
I have to stop the perfectionism and remember that even doing a little is better than nothing---baby steps!

I am havin' a good day! I've bowled a strike in my BabySteps for today.

emoticon

I didn't print off any more pages of my Control Journal. (Yet.)

I didn't buy anything today.

I didn't spend all day on the computer.

I didn't bury my face in a book, either.

I did my decluttering for today.

I exercised while watching TV.

I made good food choices.

I got all my water into me without getting bogged down.

I got some laundry done.

I logged all my Trackers, read my articles, blogged today.

I am happy.

emoticon

BTW Leslie, my printer stopped working, so I really can't take the credit for not printing anything today, either. emoticon

I just love graphics, they liven up any project, and they're all over the 'net. FLY-Lady says to have stuff around you that makes you smile, and the pix make me smile when I look at my CJ. I just have to settle on one, and not keep looking for the elusive "perfect" pic...

Thanks for the info. However, since I didn't even know I HAD a calendar, I certainly wasn't using it!
Now, I think it is kind of fun to see all those messages there. If they get to be a pain, I may ask again for the info, or, I could just save it to my favorites now......then, I can take care of it.

Leslie, Here's the message I got from Fly Lady about how to clear your calendar. I love using this calendar. I particularly like the feature that sends you an email reminder the day before any event on your calendar. Best, Michelle

Dear FlyBaby,

To regain control of your Yahoo Calendar, sign in with your Yahoo
User ID and Password and go to:

http://calendar.yahoo.com

Click on OPTIONS.

Next click on TIME GUIDES in the EVENTS column.

Un-check all the groups listed to stop reminders from those groups
from showing up on your calendar.

Hope that helps! :-)

I sent an email to Fly Lady about my problem with all this stuff showing up on my Yahoo calendar. She told me how to get rid of it but didn't tell me what caused it. Anyway, I'm so glad to have my calendar back to normal. I was having to scroll down several pages just to move from one week to the next.

Leslie and others,

I love FLY-Lady and the Brat Factor too. They both help to make the work more fun. I obsessed over my Control Journal, and printed off pages with this pic or that one on it. I believe that's why she says to use pencil on it... emoticon

I don't know if you've noticed since last month when there were protests at the volume of FLY-Lady e-mails, but now she has cut way down on the Reminders. Used to be about 15-20 Reminders a day, but now about 4 a day.

I was just deleting them because looking at all the stuff I "should" be doing was overwhelming me. Besides that, my sweetie has his ideas of what I "should" be doing, and that chips away at me too.

There was an e-mail this week about Children of Hoarders, and OMG, that's me! Likewise Kylar, which is why his words about how I should be cleaning this or putting that away, makes me want to throw things. Okay, some of them are my things, but many are his.

Anybody have an idea about how to block out the hurtful remarks without blocking him out of my life? I know, I only control me. Can I use that in this situation?

Exactly!! I am wearing a polo top and jeans and my sandals, and went out to the store for milk and felt as if I was dressed perfectly for the occasion! lol And, I washed my face and brushed my teeth and put on lip gloss and earrings--I have pierced ears, and feel 'naked' without them, and yes, I even combed my hair!
I never even look at my calendar (on the computer, and not sure I even have one!), so I don't know what you would do about all those reminders!

P.S. I just checked and there are Fly Lady entries for each day of all my previous calendar months, too. Weird!

Leslie, I think you're absolutely right. Each should adapt the concepts to fit her/his needs. (Are there any men on this thread or do they all have women to clean up their clutter for them! Just joking fellows.) Today, I'm in my walking shoes, jeans, and a tee with combed hair. For myself I'm defining being dress as dressed enough to walk down to the post office, for example.

Thanks!! I don't think I could stand my lace-up shoes every day!
And, I know about the temptation to stay in pj's all day; I still allow myself one day a week to do that, but that's a lot better than the 3-4 I was doing it!
I don't have a/c, so mostly I wear whatever is comfortable for the day; I definitely don't get dressed as if I were going to an office job.
I am retired now, and think I should live my life pretty much as I please, but, a lot of flylady's concepts really do help to keep overwhelming clutter out of my life.

Help! After starting the baby steps and visiting Fly Lady's website, I find postings for all the baby steps plus more entered into each day on my Yahoo Calendar. Each is headed with "Fly Lady Mentor." I know I signed up for her digest several years ago but didn't do anything with it; so I'm not sure what this "Fly Lady Mentor" business is all about, and I have no idea how it got on my Yahoo Calendar. It makes for way too much clutter (LOL) on a calendar I use for business.

If anyone can shed some light, I'd be grateful.

I think one can decide what being "dressed" means to her/him, and in these days of velcro, many don't have shoes with laces. To me the idea is to get out of bed and dress for the day. This concept is really important for me, because I work alone in a home office, and often the temptation to stay in pajamas all day wins out.

I'm partial to bare feet, too -- although I know the dangers of such, especially in the kitchen. I think I'll save my bare feet for a treat in the evening when the day's work is done.

It always amazes me how something as easy as putting my shoes on can get me moving right away in the morning. I have to restart all the time because I keep slipping back into my old habits-and I really like to go barefoot in the summer!

1LBATATIME, I remember cleaning out my father's cluttered garage just before he moved, and, although it was physically tiring, I had no trouble dumping stuff.

Wanted to share two mini and smybolic successes I had last night and this morning. I discovered Fly Lady several years ago but somehow never got around to implementing her plan. Last night I did the sink shining exercise; it gave me such a lift to see it so clean (looked almost new), and it seems to have inspired me. This morning, Day 2, I dressed with laced shoes right after arising. These mini steps feel good, and I plan to make them a priority. I certainly need a plan; sometimes I get so overwhelmed I get paralyzed.

DARN! I have been able to keep my bedroom uncluttered for the past few months, so now I guess I will have to follow FLYLADY'S cleaning schedule this week. I like uncluttering better than I like cleaning!

Back around Christmas, I put 15 minute unclutter 5x a week in my SP goals. That really seemed to help. Now I have changed it to FlyLady zone 3x a week.

What I really should do is set the timer for 15 minutes to be on the internet! In the time that I'm answering my e-mails, I could have one whole room cleaned!
Strawberrymoon, FOCUS is the word! There are so many times that I get side-tracked, I will even say to myself "Focus, Jacque!" This works when I have a deadline!

I know what you mean!! A task can look so overwhelming, I can't get motivated to get started, but, as flylady says, you can do anything for 15 minutes. Then, all those 15 minutes add up. If only I could do the 15 minutes every day, or twice a day would be better, I would be able to get caught up.

CMCJACQUE, I agree; I get dispirited, because there is so much to do. But I know the only way I accomplish anything is to choose one task and focus. Sometimes I can but sometimes not.

Maybe there's hope for me yet! If I would just start doing the part about setting the timer for 15 minutes - what usually happens is that I'll start a job, but be so overwhelmed by how much needs to be done, that I just give up. Or I think that I really don't have enough time to really make a dent in what I have to do that I don't start at all.

I think I signed up a couple of months ago, and just now am finally grasping the rhythm of it all! It can seem overwhelming at first, but, as a lot of it repeats, it starts to fall into place. If only I could get my apt. into shape, I'd be doing great, but, little by little, I am getting there!

I signed up for the emails in Nov and finally grasped everything in Jan! I took me awhile to actually "get it"! I've been doing it a year and a half now and while my house is better it's mostly my mind and attitude that has changed!

I just joined FlyLady and have mixed feelings about it. I love the concept of it and how well she lays out what needs done in each zone. I also love how supportive she is and urges you not to be perfect (perfectionism is one of my flaws). However, her method of organizing the information doesn't jive with how I would present it, so I'm in the process of getting all the information in a system that works for me. I realize this is encouraged because we all function a little differently, but I thought it'd be put together a little better. But, I've only been a member for a few days, so it may just be that I need to get used to her format. Oh well ... here begins the babysteps!

To set it so that you get a daily digest rather than individual e-mails, go to the yahoo group, and click on the place (to the right of your name at the top) that says "Edit membership". Step 2, Message Delivery lets you choose if you want individual e-mails or a daily digest. If you pick Daily digest, you will get one e-mail with up to 25 individual messages combined. I chose individual e-mails, because I can easily delete some from reading the subject line (like the go to bed reminder.) With the daily digest, sometimes it's so lengthy and you get it later in the day and by that time, it's too late to do any of the tasks.

If you don't have a goal, how will you know when you get there?

Yes, I have really let the bathrooms go lately - especially ours, since we're the only ones who see it. But our bathroom needs a complete overhaul - I hate cleaning it because it doesn't look good no matter how clean.

I have been trying to find the part of flylady.net where you sign up for the emails, and you can choose the digest form.....however, I always get lost on the site! If you can't find it, you could always do the 'contact us' thing, and ask.
Good for you for doing the swish and swipe! I am glad the bathroom is the zone for this week, because mine needs a thorough cleaning, and then I will be able to just do the swish and swipe daily.
Little by little, I will get caught up!

Think I got shining the sink down even when we picked chores to do my husband picked dishes to do yesterday. I was amazed I think he's done dishes 4 times in the 7 years we lived in our house.
Bathroom swish and swipe I have pretty good.
Zones will start this week.

If anyone knows how to get the emails set to digest form please let me know.

This week the zone is the bathroom plus one extra room. YUCK I will do just about anything to avoid cleaning the bathroom. But I do like when it is really clean.
I sort of spread out the House BLessing throughout the week. I really should try doing it in one day!

I've really got to get with the program - I have done nothing in the last week, expect the laundry. Tomorrow, I'm having a CM get-together at my house, and Thursday I host bridge, so I've got to do my "house blessing" tomorrow first thing!

If you don't have a goal, how will you know when you get there?

I'm embarrassed to say I really haven't got to the zones yet, but, I know they keep repeating, so I will get there......I have to do my weekly home blessing hour this weekend.
Little by little, I am catching on to this--it all seemed like so much at first, but, doing one thing at a time, and making a good start on clearing clutter is helping me to feel as if all of this is possible.

How did everyone do in the kitchen zone this week? I can't believe how easy it was to clean once the clutter was gone!

I love the idea of flylady, though the daily barrage of emails can be overwhelming (what with the SP emails and WORK also). I love the 27-fling-boogie, and have gotten rid of LOTS of stuff that's physical and emotional baggage. If only I can get my DH to part with more stuff he doesn't love but ("there's nothing wrong with it") -- any ideas, ladies? I don't want to relocate the clutter to the garage, i want it GONE GONE GONE.
Some of the best ways to get rid of clutter, I found:
1. schedule a Salvation Army / Purple Heart / your favorite charity pickup. They will send a truck to your house to pick up donations, and give you a tax-deductible receipt for it. Yay! With a deadline looming, you'll be inspired to see how good a contributor you can be.
2. Subscribe to your local Freecycle (www.freecycle.org) mailing list -- people locally from different cities are looking to give away and receive anything from baby food jars to furniture.

WORK as if your wife were watching,
THINK as if it didn't hurt,
DANCE as if you need the money.

Last night DH actually said something about how clean the kitchen looked. What a suprize, He normally doesn't notice those things! It really made my day.
I never actually joined FLYLADY, so I don't get all those e-mails. I just look at what zone I should be in each week. Then I focus on that area.

Oh my--that is a lot of emails! I just get one a day, in digest form, so it has a whole list of points. There must be a way for you to request getting it in that format so you don't get so many.

Today I spent my 15 min. unclutter time cleaning the stove and the vent. Just doing that one thing has made the kitchen look sooo much cleaner. Hopefully this time around, I will be able to stick with the FLYLADY program.

We just had a really big storm here; I sat out on the balcony (sheltered) to watch it and feel the cooler breeze--we have expected this storm for several days, so it is a relief to finally have it!
I did not get much done today either.......

Today was supposed to be the front porch zone. However, it is raining really hard. So I vacuumed my living room, dining room and hallway instead, along with uncluttering those areas. I will spend 15 minutes on the porch tomorrow.

Hello! I'm a fly baby. Need to get back on track though. I've been good about keeping the sink clean and the dining room uncluttered, but need to move to the rest of the house. I love setting the timer for 15 minutes and feeling like I've accomplished something. Got to get moving on that again.

I signed up on Flylady for the second time. One thing that I like is some of her surprise tasks. - and that you can do anything for 15 minutes. Some days, I go through & delete most of the e-mails, but other days (like today), I got up and did what she said as soon as I read the e-mail. Usually, when I read the morning routine I've already done them. Today, I felt like I got a lot done, just from the prompts.

If you don't have a goal, how will you know when you get there?

just finished sink reflections and it had some good ideas I'm going to copy down.

I just get one email from her every day, and kind of glance through them; a lot of the points are repeats, just as reminders. I set up a folder for her emails and go through them a bit more later on, and then just delete.....so I don't feel overwhelmed with them.

I haven't completely gotten on board the Flylady train, but I still get the emails. I end up deleting them quickly, but the subject lines at least make me think. I'm working on routines at work, and I think it's starting to spill over to home.

I started the FLYLADY babysteps a long long long time ago. I need to restart the whole thing. I do like how everyroom is planned ahead for the month. I just haven't been very consistent with it. I tend to put a lot of effort into it when a holiday is coming and then I slack off again.

I look at my list of emails everday and delete the repeats I already know what they say like morning and evening routines and got to bed, etc. I do like the weekly home blessing hour and the snapshots of what's coming . I find them useful. I'm interedted to know people's take of body clutter I requested it at the library but haven't got it yet.

I'm glad you did get something out of it!! There is an email every day, with a list of things, but, I just glance at it and move it to a separate folder and read through it when I have more time. I am not fanatical about following everything in the messages, but, with her help I have been making a good start on my clutter, so I'm very grateful for that.

I have to say that I tried her emails and such but could not get past a 'tone' of saying things. Almost like being talked down to. I realize that I was there because I needed someone to tell me how to get it done. I think it was mostly that some of the things did not work for me but her way was the only way. At least that is the impression I got from the email bombardment. I found that my house actually got worse because the morning routine utterly overwhelmed me and the time spent online reading the emails drained any time I had for cleaning. That said; the one thing I took away from the site that really helped me was "you can do anything for 15 minutes". With that in mind I have been able to get quite a lot done.

I signed up for the Fly Lady daily hints and get them in what's called "digest" form, hence one email a day. I will select one item from the list to add each day; that way I won't get overwhelmed.

I'm just starting to get into it -- shining sink here I come!

I know and like fly lady-has alot of good stuff to offer-but I had to back ofv-I got overhwhelmed with all the e mails. That said=she is logical, caring and on target. If they could combine all the emails into one daily I would re subscribe. am off to dump garbage and pull stuff out of the closet. I have also committed to one other thing-I was with my best friend today-we hadn't been together in a LONG time (in person) she made the comment that I like to shop and it contributes to my clutter-so as of today-unless it is an emergency I will only run errands/shop one day a week-will keep you posted! emoticon

I love flylady!! I have not 'caught up' to where I would be if I had added in a new step each day, but, I am doing a little bit here and there. I am shining my sink and getting dressed, and doing decluttering, and have started to attack my mountain of laundry, so little by little, I am making improvements.

Thought we could start a thread about FlyLady. I bleached my sink this weekend and have done about 15 loads of laundry and folded and put them all away.
Please share your thoughts about the good and bad things you are finding about the site.

I'm determined to be successful at this, but at the same time I will not get depressed if I slip up I will just keep on going and do it a bit at a time.
Never give up remember it is never to late to start again!!! Stay motivated and please help motivate me!!!!
