Wow---We didn't get shoveled out until Sunday. My landlord is 92. You would think the young guys with snowblowers around here would help him. No one did though. We had to wait until the street was half a$$ed plowed so the service he pays can come and do it on Sunday night about 10pm My homemaker told me that one of her clients had to go to dialysis on Monday and they had to call 911. The plow had to come out in front of the ambulance to clear a path. Anytime 911 was called the plow had to go respond to clear.

Bonnie my son works for the DOT in newington and he was told to stay home. Granted he doesnt plow hes an engineer. But they didnt do his street, either. he is lucky to be on a street in New Britain with alot of elderly people..he loves it they look out for him and bake him treats. he and the one other yougish type guy on the street went and shoveled to olders driveways. he was POOPED but was all excited because one couple made he and the other guy dinner.
I'm proud of my kid...hes a good one!

well that sucks! is there any one or agency you can report this to? I know when we got hit with a previous storm in my area and I had a devil of a time getting to the bus stop, I called the bus company and asked about it. I told them I nearly fell a couple of times b/c the snow banks were so big and high at the corner. I also said since that corner had an "empty" business (no one there) no one was clearing that sidewalk, yet the other 3 corners were cleared b/c those businesses did their job. I was told it was the city's job to do this, but that the bus company themselves had crews out working on such corners. They thanked me for letting them know and they would make sure their crews got out there soon. It was cleared up the next day.

Hope you and your neighbors are able to get cleared out soon.

Lin

Holly--I don't know. Today is the 12th and I live in New Britain. I think the town did a horrible job clearing the streets. We didn't see a plow until Sunday night and then they made one swipe. It is a two lane street and now it is made one. God forbid cars meet. Our street is mostly elderly. My landlords are in their 90's. The storm ended before 8am Saturday morning. What if they needed an ambulance. No police fire or ambulance could get here with 3 feet of snow on the ground. The fire hydrants are still not dug out and it is Tuesday. God forbid there is a fire. What do we pay taxes for. Obviously for a big fancy new police station and not decent roads or plowing services. Our city is the only one I know of that had such a poor response to this storm. I have seen the plows on our street twice. It is a joke. Everyday the major called and said they were working around the clock. Well they were working 1 hour and taking a break 23 then.

We got 32" of snow. Even though it stopped snowing by the time I got up yesterday morning, the plow didn't show up to plow our street until almost 11 this morning. Then it only made one swipe. We are stranded. I watched neighbor helping neighbor dig out. It was nice to see. One guy was shoveling by hand, and a neighbor went over. I don't know what was said, but the neighbor crossed the street and started using the shovel to break up the snow and the guy plowed. Then they went and did the other guys yard.

Yeah it's tiring work. I was only there for 30 minutes. By time I got dressed and out the door a neighborhood kid was there helping. Between 3 of us it got done quickly.

It is but many don't/won't. My son lives in ct, they got 3 feet of snow where he is. I've been trying to reach him all day and was getting really worried. He called me at 7 pm sounding horrible--he started shovelling at 8 am..his neighbor came to help him then they did the other guys drive--then the 2 of them did am elderly couples drive, and just kept going! 11 hours later and hurting they got finished. I'm proud of him!!!

Why wouldn't I help my neighbor? It's the right thing to do, plus she has helped me by giving me a ride now and then.

Just popped in to let y'all know I am around. Been an off week for me. Both weather and illness has not helped much. I did get outside for about 30 minutes today to help my 80+ neighbor shovel her driveway. Now I am gonna pull out my knitting and learn how to do something new.
I was gonna go to Y this past week, but put it off due to budget contraints. However, I got a pleasant surprise this morning, my tax refund showed up in my bank account! So, gonna make plans to head to the Y this coming week.
