Saw the doctor today. He offered me cortisone shots. I declined since I am currently not experiencing severe pain. He said I am doing okay right now and has left my next appointment "open".

may places are doping them now...........so the recovery is easier etc.....

i have several frends who have had this done. one is having major problems over a year out..NOT because of the surgery but because her bones arent "growing" arouund the prosthetic joint.
I cant see how any replacement can be done laparoscopically, as the joint is large and they need an opening to put it in.
My other friends are GLAD they did them both at once..ONE recovery, ONE operation. My surgeon does it quite often, with excellent results!

I have not had it yet, but feel it is in my near future. Am seeing knee doctor on Friday. Will see what he says.

the insision is often done by laprascope so it makes recovery much easier and quicker..........

ps with rehab post op people depending on their dr's recomendations would bd probably.... using a walker,two canes or even crutches...........maybe those who have had this done could respond here...............am not sure if anyone here have had this done????!!!
we shall find out...........

Bilateral Knee Replacement Becoming Safer?

Bilateral knee replacement surgery means that both knees are replaced. Patients who have severe knee arthritis in both knees may be good candidates to undergo bilateral total knee replacement. In general, there are two types of bilateral knee replacement surgery:Knee replacement surgery is performed on patients with severe knee arthritis, who have failed to find improvement with nonoperative treatments for arthritis. Often knee arthritis is a problem in both of a patient's knees.

Simultaneous Bilateral Knee Replacement
A simultaneous procedure means that both knees are replaced at the same surgery, in one day.
Staged Bilateral Knee Replacement
A staged procedure means that the knees are both replaced, but not on the same day. The second surgery may be performed as early as several days after the initial surgery, or several weeks or months later.
Doctors have been concerned about a higher complication rate in patients undergoing bilateral knee replacement. However, new data has shown that over the past decade bilateral knee replacement has become progressively safer. The complication rate is getting close to that of a standard knee replacement surgery
