Wow, 114 pounds in 20 months! That's great. I hope that I can be consistent enough to lose that fast.

Thanks for the info. I haven't done much swimming but that might be a solution.

My right knee is bone against bone and my left knee is almost there. I have had 2 round of supartz injections and work out in the pool. Between doing these two things I have been able to live with it for 5 years now. During the cold weather it can be painful but the exercise and I take Meloxicam daily. It has taken me 20 months to lose 114 pounds which helped a whole lot too.

I love SparkPeople

Holly has given you some great advice already.....
would like to ask if you already use the pool for exercise????
if not get to one of you can as that is the best place for your knees especially in the deep water.......most pools have great classes you can join....your knees will thank you.....
great to hear you will be seeing your dr as that is the best place to start.....
keep us posted as to how things work out.........blessings and hugs.............lita

“There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when it's convenient. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results.”

When you get to a plateau, think of it as a landing on the stairway to your goal. And maintenance is a lifelong plateau, so a bit of "rehearsal" for maintenance isn't the worst thing in the world

Good to know. I will check with my doc at my next physical because I know that my hesitancy to really move makes exercise classes less effective.

congrats on the awesome loss!! WOW!!! thats fantastic!!
Mine was custom made...they put a cast on my leg, cut it off, and made the brace from the cast. they CAN do that...i have huge legs, whether i'm fat or thin. always have.

That's a good idea! The last time I saw the doc about my knee, it was a surgeon who determined he couldn't do anything but that my knee was too fat (I think he used a more tactful term) for the brace he had in mind. that was 45 pounds ago so maybe in a while something will fit.

Thanks!

I have a custom brace..it separates the bones on the inside of my knee where i have no meniscus so the bones dont break more than they have. i am sure there is something that would work..could you ask your doc for help?

My knee is doing better with some weight loss and consistent exercise but sometimes when I turn it or twist it, it hurts a lot.

Is there something (like a brace) that people have used to keep the knee in a straighter position?

thanks!
