I found something that might interest some of you -- I ride a stationary bike for my knees but my bike doesn't do mileage .... so I've been thinking and looking and searching for something to convert my minutes to miles....I found the following site that's kind of fun and I'm about 50 miles into it or so ....only 2400 and something more to go....check it out if you'd like . You can also use the miles from your bike or walking.....it does any exercise.

aarp.getfitonroute66.com/Default.aspx

Just thought some of you might be interested.

I post my weight on another team Lita...wouldn't be any problem to post it here as well but the hardest part is remembering!! LOL...

just thinking...........

Just wondering...would people be interested in having a weekly weigh-in thread as an ongoing challenge? Each of us could post what it is our weight goals are and pick our day of the week that we post our progress.

Let me know your thoughts on this and if there is the interest I'll start up a Weekly Weigh-In thread.

Also if you have a particular suggestion as to how to structure the weigh-in, I am more than open to ideas.

i have tried the elliptical and my knees don't seem to like that machine.............there are different ones out there so it would be best to try them out before you decide to buy one.........make be check out the ones in gyms and see which type you like............i use the bike and rowing machine and treadmill at the gym i go to and that seems to agree with my knees.......although have had to back off of the machines the last three weeks as my knees they have been giving me some grief so for now am back in the pool 6 days/week.........good luck with finding or checking out the elliptical.......i know many others swear by this machine.........i just have not found the right one for me..........i'm sure others will tell us what works for them.........blessings and hugs.........lita

I am curious about the eliptical machine. I find it hard to do. But I think it would be better for my knees than the treadmill. I also do a water aerobics class. That seems to be the all round best for me. It helped me be lots more flexible--even in my bad knee. Chris

GOAL: Reduce A1C,BP,tryglicerides,and weight. HOW? By not eating added sugar, using Omega3s, base meals on veggies, water aerobics at least 3X week and using NuStep when I can't get to the pool.

New weight ticker option - shows weight goal vs. current/start weight

We launched an enhancement to our weight loss tickers today where you now have the option to not show your actual weight, but instead your goal. If you go to Edit SparkPage and to your ticker section, you will see 2 options:

1 - Show my starting weight, goal weight, and current weight (example starting 180, goal 160, current weight 170)
2 - Show my total pounds to lose and pounds lost (example starting 0, goal 20, pounds lost 10)

So basically option 1 used to be the only option (and if you make no changes how your ticker will appear), and you can now change to option 2 if you'd like.

This change was based on feedback from members who preferred not to share their actual weight but still wanted to share in their progress and success.

Hi Everyone!

We launched a new option for SparkPages today. If you click to edit your SparkPage, at the top right you'll now see a checkbox that says "Only allow my friends to see my page". If you check the box, only people who are friends on your SparkPage will be able to see it.

We hope members find this to be helpful if they need it!

Thanks!

Coach Jen

Hi....I have to agree with you Dmoseley...DON"T over do it! I posted elsewhere on this site that I tried to burn the 400 calories and I didn't make it. Close, but not exact. Which for me is good. I tipped over on my stationary bike this AM and now I feel like I've been hit by a truck...every part of me is SORE. I'm so ready for spring....but I can't walk outdoors yet b/c the dr. says no! TKR is sometime in June...

I have been exercising for years. I've always walked or did something for cardio at least 3 days a week. Besides the 3 months in 2005 that I didn't exercise due to knee surgery I've had a little break from September to December because of health issues but I jumped right back to the swing of things less than 2 weeks after my hysterctomy in December. I had a job for 3 years prior to my current job which I've been at for 7 months now that required me to do A LOT of climbing and my knee didn't hurt like it does now. I was diagnosed in October with Lupus by my knee doctor. I had nerve tests done and I have nerve damage in most of my leg. My leg goes numb from my knee down and that's a new problem that started in August. I need to go see a specialist in Houston, TX for the Lupus to get a second opinion and make sure I really have it. I don't know if the problems in my knee are from the small amount of cartilage in my knee or the Lupus. I just know that I will not over do it. I'll just stick to what I've been doing and not trying running.

good for you.............if it were me i would not run at all...........to risky.thats me though others may have my head..........oh well...........you made the right choice............keep the swimming though as your knees will love that for sure...........i'll say thank you for them...........haha.........
you must be icing, elevating and medicating as we speak...........i am sure...........how long have you been exercising?????if you just started perhaps this is more than you should be doing????if this is your usual for a while now ...perhaps check with your dr as to how much you should be doing at this time.............if the knee is swollen,i'd consider a rest till the swelling settles down at least............if you must then gentle pool exercises...........don't overdo....take care there is only one of you.......keep us posted........

Well I started a cross training camp last week that alternates swimming and running. We swam last week and it really pushed me to my limit with my knee. I was supposed to go tonight for the first day of the running portion and I decided not to. My knee is swollen and hurts like crazy and I decided that maybe it's just too much for me. I don't want to push myself to the point that I may be out of work due to an injury so I think I made the right choice. I will just continue with walking, my elliptical and my Biggest Loser DVDs until I build more strength in my knee and lose more weight.

Hi everyone --
Holly -- sorry to hear of your problems. You will be on my prayer list.
I missed the SP lady on Today since I teach.
I was just wondering how others are exercising when your knees are hurting. I ride my stationary bike til I have my TKR in the summer. But I was wondering if there were any other things I could do. PT told me walking shouldn't be my exercise of choice right now. So I guess I'm looking for some knee exercises that won't hurt too bad. I've tried a few on SP and can't do some of them but some I can...but I am just looking for others as well. Hope everyone is doing well. I was excited to see a 5 lb. loss this week after staying the same last week -- eventually it DOES catch up I guess!!

I watched the today show with Melissa but was disappointed when it didn't focus on her time with sparkpeople and how it helped her to achieve her goals. I am very happy for her and her accomplishments and I guess it was to add her to their Fit club for her terrific weight loss.

STAY POSITIVE AND SMILE. DON'T BE DISCOURAGED WHEN YOU HAVE A BAD DAY. THEY CAN ONLY GET BETTER.

this was posted on another team and thought it was worth sharing..........

Remember to wear red tomorrow to remind everyone about women's heart health. Heart disease is the #1 cause of death for women. It beats all forms of cancer combined. Wear something red tomorrow (Friday, Feb 1) to remind people of this. For more information you can go to http://www.goredforwomen.org/ for more information.

As people who are overweight to some degree, this is something that can happen to any of us.

LET'S TRY A DAILY CHALLENGE.................STARTS TUESDAY,JAN/29/07

The challenge is not with others it is with yourself. I know that I think of this on a daily basis. If I am doing better then a year, a month or even yeasterday then I am winning. I don't care what others are doing because that does not in anyway shape or form affect me.
Only you can get yourself off.... the COUCH.

BLESSINGS AND HUGS TO ALL.............LITA
