Memory

Have you ever considered how it would be

If we didn't possess a memory?

Of all the things that we used to do

And our thoughts were just "all brand new"?

The quaint, little muses of a former day

Or the voyages we took so far away.

Have you ever considered what it would be

If we didn't possess a memory?

The good, the bad, the happy, the sad

No past to learn from, no past to recall

No reminiscence of Summer, Winter, or Fall

No recollection of anything, anything at all.

Have you ever considered how it would be

If we didn't possess a memory?

No wisdom to draw from, no joys to recall

No family,or friendships, nothing at all.

What a gift we've been given with our memory

To make better choices from the past we see

But a most special gift for you and for me

Is no knowledge of life's future, just what it will be!

Living a life a little less ordinary!

"Strong is the enemy with
outposts in your head!"

Title: "Always Find Me There"
Date: 02/07/12
By: Desiree A. I. ©

Come down from there
I don't want you to fall.
I wish you wouldn't dangle
From up so far,
So close to the edge.
I feel myself get dizzy
My heart beating fast
All I want is your hand in mine
I want this to last!

I feel you are broken
Beyond my repair
You feel alone
In the world
But always find me there..

My wish for you,
is that you'll see
You are not alone,
You are not broken,
Beyond repair.

I love you,
So you'll always find me there.

All I Can Do
by Julie A. Carter (c)

It hardly seems fair
that I can't be true to myself.
I don't measure up
to expectations or standards
placed before me.

I would like to be
loyal
honest
but it always seems cut short
painfully aware
that I'm not.

All I can do
if I even know what to do
is to believe
is to live
as I know truth.

My perceptions are all quite skewed
I've created this reality
I need to belong to it.

Once again, I realize
it hardly seems fair
confusing even
that I just can't be who
I really might be.

"Pitiful"
By: Desiree I ©
Date: 09/13/10

Why are you so pitiful?
Why are you so pathetic?
Why are you so weak?

Can't you find a way out?
Can't you piece this thing together, again?
Can't you fix what is broken?

No, you can't...

Withering away somewhere
Is a heart.
Not a robotic heart
But not a real heart either...
It's only a figment
Of my imagination
But, it still exists
Nonetheless.........

This doesn't make me weak,
Although I feel... very weak.

I'm losing sleep,
I'm falling deep
But not into something
As special as love,
or a dream...

Chasing memories.
They call it the past,
Because it should remain...
In the past.

But I can't stay here, in the present
Pretending, not anymore.
I feel my heart beat quicken.
Your words become tears that
Fall from my eyes
Piercing my heart a thousand times...

I hate you, but I love you too.
Is this possible?...

"Not at the top."
By: Desiree I. ©
Date: 09/13/10

I can't shake this...
This feeling,
Like... I'm doing this all wrong
Like, no matter what
I'll never be able to do anything, right.

I break, when no ones around
But it's not like it used to be
I have to be strong
Not just strong for me, anymore
Strong for them, strong for her...

In silence I find peace
In silence I also find a raging war
One that I can never seem to stop.

I was once at the top of the world.
Where am I now?

Wall Flower
-Monique Gibson (c)

Often I find myself
standing somewhere at the back of a room
and watching you.
Just the way you move.

So I lay myself bare to you,
a blank canvas,
a landscape of emotion
just waiting to be painted

Because you just have this way,
of making me feel so small
and building me up.
But you just don’t see me
as you pass on by.

So I'll stand here and wait
and hope you don’t see my tears.

My most recent one. I post all my poems on a blog if anyone would like the link feel free to ask. I'm always looking for feedback and opinions.

"If I Can't..."

If I can’t see, how can I witness
the beauty that surrounds me?

If I can’t hear, how can I be entertained
by the sounds of nature?

If I can’t speak, how can my voice of silence
say thank you?

For the blessings I receive everyday,
from Him ~

Untether My Heart, by Elaine Jarvis (prayerpilgrim)

I am longing for something.
I cannot tell you what it is,
what it is called or how to find it,
only what I think it must be like—

like the day you relax enough to float,
to let go and, instead of sinking like a stone,
to feel yourself become buoyant
and finally trust the water to hold you.

like a bird must feel when,
stretching its wings on the edge of a precipice,
it feels a gust and then the lift beneath its wings
the first time it soars above a canyon.

What is it that enables us to risk?
What unseen fortune tips the scales of our hearts?
What daring or knowing compels us to follow a dream?
I want to untether my heart.

It was hard for me to decide what poem to post here first... I guess this poem is nearest to who I am:

Plea to Pen
April 2008
Angel D

Take me back to a time
when I was sure God was the sun
and was always there
[for the moon is a mirror
that reflected info back to him]
When I would pray with watchful eyes
that I never closed,
[but I never could
look God straight in the face either]

Take me back to a time when
neglected lawns overrun with weeds
were a garden
Where a little girl with grass stains on her hands
raised purposeful palms to blue skies
and knew for sure
[as clouds cleared]
her song was heard
For the warmth of golden rays
were as real as any hug from loving parents

When dandelions were called "blow flowers"
and with the simple act of exhaling
magic happened
turning white into a sea of yellow blossoms

Take me back to a time
where even the flowers in my garden
outstretched along side me
[yearning to be closer to God]
Well...
until mowing day,
when I'd morn the loss of beauty
and learn that all things come to an end
eventually
All things have their season
and the world changes
perpetually

But also...
that sometimes they come back again
a little stronger than before
with the help of breath and wind and prayers,
song and outstretched palms

Lessons came a little easier then
in the days where the sun seemed a bit brighter
and the moon was a giant mirror...
Take me back?

Tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it.

And now for one of my poems. I wrote this poem when I was deep in grief over my dad's passing. I was the only person in the room when he passed away. I will never forget helplessly watching as my father died. It has been copywritten. I can't read it to this day without crying.

Dont Go!
In Memory of My Dad
08-27-35 -- 09-16-2004)

By BigmeLittleme

My hand disappeared
In the vastness of his
Towering above all the rest
In height, integrity, duty and honor
He was a man greater better and best.
He stood by my side
Through life good or bad
There were times I made him proud
And times I made him sad
But his love he never withheld
Because that's the way he was,
My Dad.
Then it was my turn
To give back a little
I could never give back all
Alzheimer's was too big and I, too small.
I held his hands and looked in his eyes
I stood by his side
As he slipped into his good-bye.
I whispered in his ear,
Don't Go; Don't Go!
and then silence...
I love you, Dad.

I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me! Philippians 4:13 Praise God!

ANDRAXIA - I have a Bachelor's Degree in Integrated Language Arts/English. I took so many literature classes and poetry classes that I totally get what you are saying. I came out of school Paralyzed. I cried and cried thinking..."I am NO writer! These people are writers (referring to Frost and Whitman and Thoreau and many more). They are masters of the language; this is true, but the first poem that they wrote didn't start out being famous and make them legends. They were all very sceptical of their work and many of the great poets died broke and thinking they were failures. So please, please, please whatever you do...pick yourself up...dust yourself off...don't compare yourself to others just look deep within yourself and write, write, write...

Same goes for those of you who want to write novels...Stephen King wrote "Carry" and threw it in the trash thinking he didn't create a convincing/realistic female character because being a man he really didn't think he knew enough about the pubescent female to do her justice. His wife was cleaning the house while Mr. King was at work (not as an author) and took it out of the trash and read it. When he got home she returned it to him and told him it was good and that he should persue the book. Whether you like Stephen King or not, you have to admit that he is one of our day's most well-known and wealthy authors. Most of his books are turned into movies and become box office hits for a reason. That's all I have to say...I hope it helped to inspire someone...God Bless you all.

Oops...I signed it, sort of. Just habit., I uused to sign it and put the time and place it was written. Something I picked up from reading tons on Allen Ginsburg. So, what poetry do you think inspired the way you write or gave you the inspiration to write poetry?
I read a lot of Nikki Giovanni, but the first poems I ever saw were most likely by Shel Silverstein.

I have a friend who lives
in a room
full of anger.

I cry sometimes and think
that he's so afraid to care that
he walks upon a checkered floor
alight
but full of shadows
threatening
to invade.

-Wendy Melton

Gosh, I wrote that so long ago that I know there is another verse that I can't remember. A high school attempt at creating a love affair with my best friend. He never got that it was about him. We never dated, I was too shy to tell him he was my everything. No idea where he is now.

One afternoon, as I sat having tea
A spark of light hit the sky
I looked out to see what it could be
And found lightning had hit a tree

I should have closed the curtain
But instead I looked outside
And the lightning hit the steps
Of a neighbor on the other side

I couldn't take my eyes off
I should have right then
Because lightning saw me
And rush to the window

Before I could sit down
Or get away
It caught my arm
As it brought fire

So now I learned my lesson
Never to look and see
When lightning comes calling
For it could hit me.

This actually happened.
That

Title: "Lightning Hit A Tree Outside My Window."
Date: April 16th, 2009
By: Desiree I. ©

It was a warm July night.
We were casted away by
The moon light, & nothing more.

The the clouds came in,
From the sunset.
Where the horizon
Meets with the ground.
Never making any sound
Until thunder, shook its way
Through the earth's crest.

And we find nothing there,
An invisible sheild we like to call it.
We aim to please,
We shall not fail it.

I am laying in my room,
As rain falls on the roof
I hear it, but cannot see.
Its midnight.

Wishing I could find peace
In the rain
But I cannot, I am stuck here.
Inside this house.
For many moments
It is silent, everything seems
to stand still...

Then, out of no where
Just like fear rising off
Something hot and aggitated
Mixed with something cold, and calm..

Like no other noise I've ever heard
Came the great pang of life!
I was scared out of my mind
Thought that it was me
Who might then perish.

No, as I looked out my window,
I found something even more
Devastating than that.

The remains of bark,
And leaves lying lifeless.
And bleeding years,
Of rain and enduring
Lightning, never once
Had it seen,
Something
As catastrophic
As this..

Gone, like
Nothing ever mattered.
I tired to filter this sadness
With my pillow, paper, and a pen.
But, it was no use.
I was whithered
And tired, and the storm
Had met its final calm
When I was ready for sleep.

"Poor, tree." Was my final thought.

Garden Fantasy

nto the eerie nights we wander,

Within our dreams do ponder,

Many distances travelled under

Do we want any blunder?

Going anywhere in our dreams,

Doing anything it seems,

Beyond the minds of plenty scenes,

Only we can imagine the themes.

Protection from our spirits,

Who help us reach our light,

Ask and you will be delighted

Travelling to your destiny excited!

Title: “That Beautiful”
Date: March 10, 2009
By: Desiree I. ©

Like a sand storm
Twisting and turning
In a rainbow,
That was some how burning
In the rain,
All that thunder and lighting
All makes sense to me now, some how.

All of that mumbling
And jumbling around
I knew I’d taken a chance
Got lost in the romance
Something I know
I’ll never get back, now…

But there you where
Forever incandescent
And there I was
Just as dull as the gray sky
You made me see
My sun could shine through too
Just like you.

And still I always wondered
How I could ever be
Just as beautiful as you…

Just as the rain stopped
Just as our hearts touched
We turned away.
Somehow it changed.
Just as a dream lives,
No sooner than it thrives
Just then it dies.

I still wonder,
How anyone could be
so beautiful.
How could I ever be,
that beautiful?
