Yup, I've been impressed by how active this team seems. And I did find the message board to be the biggest help my first time 'round doing Weight Watchers.

I remember so well the first week I lost less than one pound and felt soooo hungry all week (I was actually in tears over being hungry all the time.) That was awful because everyone else on their first week was losing 2-4 pounds. You expect some water loss your first week, so if I had any of that (which I should've), I lost NOTHING after starving all week.

My leader mostly suggested stuff I was already doing (like eat lots of veggies -- although she did have a helpful tip about breakfasts.) I got really good support from their message boards, though. On their advice I changed my diet so I was getting more protein, started weighing/measuring my foods and found out I was eating less than I thought (apparently the opposite of most people.) And I talked my leader into giving me the info on how to calculate exercise points the following week (again, on message board advice.) After that, I was eating 300 - 500 calories/day more than I had the first week, and lost 1-2 pounds/week every week for the next 3 months. So I guess the starvation mode thing is for real :D

It's important to make sure you are eating enough. I burn 4500+ calories a week and my calorie range is from 1860-2210. I always make sure to eat within my range and I've been losing about 2 pounds a week. It's great that your upping the exercise, but you have to be sure you are eating enough, or your body will go into starvation mode and not lose. I understand your frustration, I have been there! But when I started eating more, that was when I actually lost.

I hope this helps!

Sher, I was doing the same thing when I started my journey last year. I really didn't eat "that" much. I had skinny friends who ate a heck of a lot more than I did. I have learned it wasn't "how much" I was eating, it was "what" I was eating. A little bit of a high glycemic food can work havoc on your system and put a kink in your progress. If you think about it....we can be really good for two days in that we have knocked off 3200 calories..that is one pound. Then we can eat a couple of slices of pizza and have a soft drink and put at least 1000 calories of that back on. If we take away a meal in the process of thinking we are catching up, we play havoc because the body "thinks" it isn't going to be fed again and it "holds" onto all that fat and stores it. We "have" to eat in order to lose..so, it is really important to find foods that you can satisfy your cravings and remain within your limits. You can do it....we all can....its just a trying learning experinece. Balance...balance!

At 240+ pounds with that much exercise, I am sure you can comfortably eat 1500 calories/day and still lose at least a pound/week. I am sure if you think about some of the things you used to eat, you will find that it's still less in calories (even if it's more food in volume), plus you are working harder.

Do make sure you're correct in your portion sizes. Most people would not think 1300 calories seems like a lot of food. If you've checked your portions carefully, then relax and enjoy :)

Sweetness, I know exactly where you are coming from. It can be so confusing sometimes...the thing is, you have to try to think of your body as a fine tune automobile. "Food" is the gas that keeps us going. The correct combination is the oils that keep us lubed...the water keeps us flowing and flushing the fats. When you started your diet, you cut down in order to "lose" the weight...then you started exercising and gaining muscle mass. Muscle weighs more than fat and in that, you need more intake to burn the machine. The difference between a 4 cylinder and a V/8.... be careful as to "which" foods you choose to increase your caloric intake tho. We need the proteins in order to "burn" so, don't overlook the fact you need a certain amount of protein in your diet to keep it going. I remember thinking I would lose if I didn't eat anything and I would end up gaining...now I know our bodies don't work correctly if we don't inject the right combinations. You keep up the good work and don't allow any thoughts of disbelief come into your mind. LYMI, Sharon

You're not wrong in feeling nervous - but trust me, 1310 calories is still VERY calorie-restricted. The additional calories is basically the equivalent of a banana. The idea of exercising is to increase the metabolism of your body to help you urn more calories just by sitting and breathing. The idea of eating more calories is to avoid sending your body into starvation mode, which kills your metabolism. If you don't eat enough to nourish your body, it will start to shut down essential systems and hoard every single calorie that you put in your mouth. This is why recovering anorexics can gain weight by eating only 700 calories a day. Scary, isn't it? Believe me, eating 110 calories extra in a day is a small price to pay for sustained weight loss! Especially if you're burning that many calories a day through exercise, this is REALLY noting to be woried about.

And one more thing - it's okay to like eating! You should like eating! The idea of changing your lifestyle is to learn to eat in a way that you can enjoy your life to the fullest - both the eating part, and the being healthy part. Don't turn food into the enemy here, try to see the food you eat as a tool that's going to *help* you get your body into the shape you want it to be.

Go team Blue!!

You don't want to eat any lower than around 1200 calories or your body will go into starvation mode. If you're exercising that much more, they've increased your calories so your body doesn't starve. I would just try to stay at the low end of your range. That's what I'm doing.

Ok so i changed my diet plan because i was in fear that i was in starvation mode w/all the exercise i was doing and the amount of calories i was burning w/each workout i have been doing turbo jam and i have been burning anywhere from 400 to 650 calories a day. I want to work out 5 day's a week So that is ALOT of calories burned within a week. So i had to put that in my new plan. I am devistated because i was eating between 1200 and some and 1500 and some calories a day and they upped it to 1310 and 1660 that is ALOT more! This upsets me because i have to eat MORE each day now and i have a food complex now. I don't WANT to eat as much i fear i'll gain rather than lose. Or i might like eating more and get into the habit again. I also feel like i NEED to be doing this much exercise a week because if i'm exercising like this i'm working hard for my weight loss. It keeps me energized and motivated to work out. How many calories do you have to eat each day? Am i wrong in feeling so nervous about this? ughh
