Today is day one as a new "Sparkie"; my name is Kathy. I started working on nutritional changes about a month and an half ago. Two weeks later I took a fall and broke my right leg (in the knee. I have been using a wheelchair/walker since. I hope to start walking again in June. In the meantime. I am working on leg stretches, strengthening the good leg and lots of arm exercise. I have lost 2.5 lbs in a a month and a half. I was excited to find this site today!

I'm doing better than can be expected, considering I'm working full time with my internship, planning a wedding, and working on my senior thesis.

I'm surprised I haven't gained all my weight back. I'm one tough cookie. Hahahaha.

I use to dress for the gym at bed time when I was in the Army. Makes for a quick start and minimal thought process.
Layed up today to rest pulled a hamstring on friday.
This right leg gives me fits.
All gave some, some gave all.
I will not forget.

Yeah, I have to do gym work first thing, or it doesn't get done. For a while there, I even dressed for the gym before I went to sleep . . . It works quite well.

But I do go dancing in the evening :-)

Hugs -- Edith Started at 220, made goal 160 now I have to get there again :-)

Keep Dancing. Joy is the best exercise.

I have to laugh at how you described what you go through with your brain. Hahahaa I have never heard it described like that before.

But I feel like that when I go and try to do work out after work. I don't have time in the mornings since I wake up early enough for work and I have an hour commute. So I try to do my stuff at night. And I do have a battle. Sometimes my brain will win and I think convince my feet to hurt more just so that I get turned off by working out and I just do research instead. Hahahaha. Meanwhile I walk around my job alot, in my high heels too. I typically do a mile or 2 a day in my heels. So I would like to challenage any guy to try and do that and say why are you tired. Hahahaha

You're not alone with this one SandFlea

The morning battle
I look forward to the gym every morning and there is no denying it makes the rest of my day better. It's the first 30 minutes of my cardio that drives me crazy, it's me vs my mind, if my brain had a voice it would sound like a spoiled screaming child. The fight is on the more my brain complains the harder I push. Once my brain tires out it falls asleep and the rest of my weight training rocks. I hope I'm not the only one who fights like this.

Vbutterfly - I remember you!

I can't follow the meal plans on here. It requires too much planning for my life. What I do if eat my own food, but I buy lots of grab and go snacks like apples, oranges, kashi crunch bars, activia light. I usually eat a salad for lunch, with mostly romaine lettuce, turkey or tuna, cucumbers, tomato, beets, etc. I estimate the quantities of everything I put on so that i can plug into my tracker. I even grouped the salad items so I can just add "turkey salad" and all the trimmings get added at one time.

I try to keep my planning to a minimum in the interest of time. But you still have to plan *some*.

Jenny/Countrygirl,

Make sure you are set up to receive emails in your profile. If you are, and you still don't get them, leave a post in the technical help section of the community. They are very good about responding and troubleshooting.

Babe - When you are under stress, it's hard to lose the weight. Trust me -- I have said before, I am losing and gaining the same 5 lbs all through April and now May. Life has gotten pretty stressful and complicated - which is one of the reasons you guys don't hear much from me.

Sometimes, you have to cut yourself some slack, and focus on when things will be more normal. Do what you can, and don't add to the stress - that's the best I can do (for me).

Karsen,

You can go to the community section and there is a thread for "buddies" or "buddies wanted" something like that.

Also look for sparkteams that have focal points that interest you, join them or just browse through - I call that "loitering". You can check out what people are saying, check out some sparkpages, and leavea comment for someone you may find interesting.

People with similar goals tend to find each other and make friends.

meg1177 if you go to your sparkpage and edit it you can get your weightloss ticker there.

a quick question for the ladies out there, its a little on the personal side, but im sat here in tears because of my complete disaster today, its that time of the month and i just couldnt control my urges for crisps and chocolate, its all ive eaten today, im so disappointed in myself, does anyone have any advice on how i can deal with this in future months?

I make sugar free jello pudding, it has less calories and stuff but is still chocolatey.

Also, my husband and I have found that either purchasing or bagging chips and whatnot into the suggested serving size (or smaller as desired) helps control how much we have eaten.

I wouldn't say this is a major problem but seeing how I'm driving myself crazy about this because I can not figure it out I would say so.

I'm trying to change my signature here on SP for everytime I post something on a message board, right now I have my .. Me in Denial thing talking about weight changes the higher you go up.

How do I change that into something different, it's not in Sparkpages unless I missed something, please help me because I'm going nuts and instead of focusing on finals and packing I'm focusing on how to change my saying. Hahahaha.

Thanks in advance!

I am having a huge problem with time. I work full time during the day and have evening classes throughout the week. I'm finding it really hard to follow my meal plan. I made it a goal to pack lunches but by the time I get home I have to finish up homework and I am too tired to put a lunch together. Plus I love to sleep in... I am the worst at this getting up early in the morning. I dont know what to do I am very frustrated. I am not going to give up but I am on the verge of tears because I am so overwhelmed with everything. emoticon

Lynn,

The difference is probably that the Leaderboard is counting current month points, not overall/total points.

Hey - Try the Fiber One Oats and Chocoalte bar. It's good for you, and I promise it tastes like a really gooey cookie or candy bar. Only 140 cals, but 9g of dietary fiber, and VERY filling/satisfying.

So is the peanut butter one, but you mentioned chocolate...

I think K gave the greatest advice.

Sometimes when we don't eat stuff we should, we eat more of what we shouldn't because we still should have eaten the right stuff.

One of those things we overlook is protein at breakfast. We should have some eggs, meat or beans at breakfast. We should have a bit of milk too (I have a very milky latte), but I find milk, though it is great for calcium, doesn't have quite enough protein to give that satisfaction effect it can.

Another thing that makes us feel satisfied is fiber, which is why I often do a cup of beans at breakfast, since it has both protein and fiber.

For crisps and chocolate. I didn't give them up both at the same time. I gave up sweets first, then the next week I gave up the chips. And it certainly is the hardest for me in PMS. I usually eat more then, though I try to snack on fruit and whole wheat pretzels. Have the good snacks around :-)

Hugs -- Edith Started at 220, made goal 160 now I have to get there again :-)

Keep Dancing. Joy is the best exercise.

The best advice I can give is:

1. Plan for it. Work it into your eating plan - under your control! Add it to your tracker as a snack, not a meal.

2. If you do mess up, don't trash the whole day. Pick up where you left off. If you can adjust the rest of your eating for that day to accomodate the slip, do that. If you can't (like it's the end of the day), try to work out extra to burn the calories off.

3. Forgive yourself, and move on. We all do it.

Hi!

Yeah, while a topic can have many threads, it is easier for people to find what has been said if the thread resides in only one topic.

Though, when enough time has passed and a topic has been dormant, starting a new one on the same theme rather than trying to unearth (or telling someone else they should) the old one is fine. If the old one is found, it can be referenced in the new, but often as not the issue isn't the information under the topic, but the need to talk about it, which helps us to think about something.

Hi Jess,

Within a topic would be definitely be a reply to the topic. If you have another topic, then you create a new topic. THere is a button on the page for create a new topic. Does that help?
