Hi! my name is courtney and i am just starting back on this site. I used this site over a year ago when i was trying to lose weight for my wedding. I DID meet my goal, but gained it all back after the wedding. I also just had a baby and am looking to lose that weight! My favorite thing about this site is the nutrition tracker. I need to change my habits and learn MODERATION. My biggest downfall is anything with sugar in it. I love to bake with my six year old so this will be hard!

I have found that sharing your progress with others really helps with motivation, so lets be friends!

Good luck to all. We can do it!

I think it is interesting that teams come and go. What happens? People give up on getting healthy? They reach their goal and feel they no longer need spark? They get busy and spark is not working for them? I can not tell you how many teams are going great guns when I join and then fizzle out. Laughs....maybe is it me..haha

If you don't eat enough sometimes, and then eat way too much sometimes...then you are probably a bit of a binge eater (like me). Tracking your food really helps with this...especially if you enter everything you eat and look at how many calories you just put into your body. Try to plan a few meals that are satisfying and healthy - meals that you can go back to any time you don't know what to eat. Just keep on trying. You'll get there.

Hi Hunisu! It sounds like you really have your hands full with kids and all. Good to see there is someone else here to rub elbows with.
I have always had healthy foods in the house. I find I eat more healthy if I don't use recipes, all the little extras in the recipes really pack on the extra calories.
Welcome back and good luck!

I'm back... again... kinda...

I'd like to say that I'm here for the long haul, but I know myself and will say that at least I'm back for now and am committed to eating healthier, exercising more and taking better care of myself.

A month and a half ago I started tae kwon do and it's going well. Hubby and I are doing it together and occassionally we work out with the kids in their class as well. Hubby actually helps out with the kids 5 nights a week and is doing very well.

We've started really looking at our eating habits again as well and have been amazed at how our shopping cart has changed its contents. We now buy ingredients instead of meals, that kind of thing.

Anyway wanted to say hi, but its time to get back to making dinner.

Don't do anything you aren't going to have fun doing. If it's not going to be fun, find a way to make it so. - Me

Happy one-year anniversary, Spark Class! Saw that we went from Kitty to Sunset and thought I'd drop by. :)

I was right on track to be at my goal weight by my Sparkiversary, but I sort of blew it in the last two months. :P Oh well, back to it.

Take it easy, peops!

I have to agree. It does not look like you are following a specific diet plan. That makes it tons harder. Using their suggestions or even following some other diet will get you in the groove of eating more balance throughout the day. Good luck!

Hi. I took the liberty of looking at your food tracker. Have you taken a look at the menues that SP suggests? You might do better if you use those as a guideline. You can substitute if you don't like something. Please feel free to sparkmail me if you need help.

Hi,
This is probably the first time ever that I didn't gorge myself on Halloween candy! I didn't buy it until Halloween day, then that night, I put all the leftovers in my son's room and in my husband's music room. Out of sight, out of mind! It is nice not to be on a sugar hangover. Now, to figure out how to handle Thanksgiving and Christmas! It is always the treats and comfort foods of holidays that get me in trouble!

After several false starts I have reset my tracker and had another fresh start! I know some people will think if you want to lose weight why so many fresh starts? Its like when I tried to give up smoking, I tried more times than I care to remember to quit but I did it :-) I quit almost 3 years now and I know I CAN lose this weight, no matter how many fresh starts I have. You just have to have paitence with yourself!

I also started in April and have slacked off a few times. I see it as part of the process. From April to June I lost 18 pounds and have not gained anything back although I took off from July till now. Making permanent life changes are difficult and we will feel like failures at times, but we are not! Let's continue to work on what we started in April and let the example of those who have gone further than us guide and motivate us. I hope to hear from you all.... emoticon

So I started my weight lose journey in April and fell off the "wagon" a few times since. When I got lost in my day to day life I lost track of my new born habits. Well I gained all the weight I lost and then some on top of that. I am DONE gaining emoticon and ready to start LOSING!!! Can't wait to see results but it will all come within time! I am ready to do this...again! emoticon

I have started back on the horse in great form...however haven't seen results. Of course it has only been three days. I walked 50 minutes last night in sauna like weather...I can't believe I didn't even lose a pound of water.

Anyway...good luck to everyone today.

Peggy, don't feel too bad...I gained 5 lbs on my first vacation at the beginning of July and another 5 lbs on my second vacation in August. So I am 10 lbs up and now 14 lbs from my goal. I had made it to goal in June but the moment I quit tracking my food intake or quit my exercise rountine the weight jumps right back on.

I haven't gained much of the size back though. I noticed I am still able to wear my size 8's and with a little wiggling, I can get into the size 6 skort that I bought in June.

Just wanted to say "hi" to everyone and let you know that I am back and tracking again so that I can lose and maintain.

Hi Team!
I'm back from my trip and sad to report that I gained 4 pounds :( I'm really disappointed b/c I ran 3 times, went for a 12 mile bike ride, and did my strength training routine twice. I thought I was doing well on eating, but I wasn't tracking my food so I guess I over indulged! Today I caught that little voice telling me that I'd already blown it, so I might as well forget the diet altogether. Luckily, I stopped and told myself to just get back on the wagon. (I guess I'm talking to myself now, yikes!) Anyway, I refuse to log those 4 pounds onto my weight loss ticker... I'm just gonna work until I'm back at that weight!
Happy Monday!
Peggy

Hi Peggy, I too am going on a family vacation and will be gone for about 10 days. I don't have little ones though, mine are teenagers. I just recently reached my goal of 130lbs emoticon and am very happy about it. I have already been on one family vacation this year and gained 3 lbs. I am really hoping to be able to maintain my weight. My plans are to do the best I can with the food choices I have and exercise as much as I can without being rude. I feel I really need to learn how to deal with these times around family without gaining weight. I hope you have a great vacation! emoticon

resist snacking as much as you can! and don't order the most fattening thing you can on the menu (if you guys are eating out a lot). for breakfast, don't have a full 3 course breakfast each morning. if you can, just have cereal and a piece of fruit or an egg and toast. something simple. also, if your kids are running around, run around with them! you're on vacation...enjoy yourself! and chances are if you keep yourself busy running around with your kids you won't be tempted to eat as much because you won't be bored. =)

Hi team,
I'm getting ready to go on a 10-day trip to visit family, and taking my 2 small kids along. Any advice on maintaining while we're away? I'm not expecting to lose any weight, but I also don't want to undo my hard work!
Thanks,
Peggy

Congrats, LM!!

I've been having a weird weight week. Last week I hit the midpoint in my weight loss, and this week it keeps vacillating between one and three pounds above that. :P

I did run my first ever 10K on Tuesday, though!

Yay! Vacation time!

Now I just need to make sure I'm tracking and not eating too much of that bacon-cheese dip I brought home from the store in a weird alternate universe last night.

One of my strategies is to workout before I sit my heiney down in this chair.

Hey peops! I'm back after a month off, kind of.

I did manage to go running at least once a week (thanks to the new institution of "Office Running Mondays" -- my coworkers rule!), but didn't track calories and ate too much bad stuff on too many days. emoticon

I ran a 5K (my second ever, the first one I did a few years ago) and am signed up for a 10K. It's been practically raining workout buddies, between my coworkers, my friends who are losing weight, and my friends who are doing marathon training programs!

This week I went back on my Spark program. Counting calories, doing cardio, kind of slacking on weights, checking in with my homies in my Spark Teams! I'm back to where I was at the end of May minus half a pound. emoticon And I'm feeling so much more motivated after spending a month not thinking about dieting 24/7... what a burnout. I was so obsessed with losing weight that my body image was getting worse, not better. emoticon

I hope to drop another 3-5 pounds in July, then maybe take another break before going for the home stretch towards my final goal.

What have you guys been up to???

~ Elaine.

I find if I stay away from the scale for more than a few days at a time, I am even more disappointed. The scales keep me motivated and decide what my diet is like for the day. Sometimes how much exercise, too. LOL

Just found out that you can burn up to 500 calories in 30 minutes on the eliptical machines. Never used one, but I am going to learn while I am at the resort next week. I know I will need to burn as many calories as possible not to gain.

I am right there with you. I weigh daily and it is depressing. Weekends are the worst. I start retaining water every weekend because I will have a drink now and then and don't drink enough water like I do through the week, so I have quit weighing myself on Mondays. Regardless, I appear to start over weekly. I will lose as many as four pounds during the week and then gain it back during the weekend. Since I only have 7 days til I leave for vacation, I plan to stick hard to the diet this weekend.

Yep, I've been seeing little by little losses this whole month, even some not moved at all times. It can be quite frustrating.

Here's to having a good weekend no matter what the scale says!

Congrats Hunisu! Wish I could say the same thing. I walked last night and plan on mowing tonight. Major help in the scale department.

I am getting stressed because I have so much to do before I leave for vacation and only 8 days to do it in. My face is also still extremely swollen and ugly from the sunburn and starting to wonder if I am having an allergic reaction to something.

Today is a great day...

though I'm a bit bored here at work. We're finishing up a deadline and just a few things are straggling (still finishing a day early though thank you very much), I've downed my water, I had a great lunch and my apple killed the sweet tooth.

But the best thing about today was the # on the scale. I'm getting so darned close. Only 1/2 pound away from the goal I set for the end of the month. I'm hoping that it'll come off by Thursday and I can start my vacation on a positive note. But if it doesn't happen then oh well, I'll just keep plugging away.

Just checking in to say hi. Was good this weekend on diet and exercise, but pulled the stupid move of forgetting to put sunscreen on my face Sunday on the boat and burnt the heck out of my forehead. No tan lines anywhere except on my face where my sunglasses were! LOL

9 days until I leave for vacation...my original goal was to be at 130 lbs by then. Not nearly going to make it. It has been over a week since I lost a single pound. Hopefully I will lose some this week before I leave.

Welcome back LMO - sounds like you have been doing well despite being off the band wagon. I didn't fair so well my last falling off...

I look forward to seeing the scale move down instead of up! Which will hopefully happen over the course of the next two weeks.

Just checking in. A little down but it is my own fault. I have really been slacking lately and only have 14 days until I leave for Jamaica. I am still 10 lbs from where I would like to be but I know it isn't possible to lose that much by the time I leave. If I could just lose about 6 before I leave I would be happy. I have to double up my exercise and start watching my carbs a little closer.

Aggravating weekend, was traveling 8 hours on Friday & the return on Sunday. Couped up in a car, visiting with relatives, some of the food seemed out of my control. Tried not to totally lose it and I refuse to weigh until tomorrow to see if the scales hate me. Either way back on track tomorrow.

I just realized something... last week I bought a bag of goldfish cheddar crackers. The kids finished theirs off a couple days ago... I haven't had ANY since Saturday.

WOW! That's a new one for me. I actually forgot about them.

Yay, Elaine! Good for you! I am just within reach of my 135 goal myself. I hope to get there in the next couple of days!

Beans are a great protein source, although I realize this doesn't help you today! Or sometimes I make a smoothie with protein powder, milk, and fruit. I have to be creative with protein, too, because I don't eat a lot of meat. I'm not vegetarian, I just don't like to eat any more meat than I absolutely have to!

I hope you are having a better day, today! How is everyone else so far this week?

Haha, thanks, Svelte!

My weekend went okay. Friday and Saturday involved too many big meals and too few little snacks. Sunday I ate all my calories at brunch, and so when evening rolled around, I was so hungry that I had to eat something, putting me over for the day.

But, I did reach my weekend goal of 135 lbs! And this morning, my overindulgence didn't really show up on the scale.

Now I'm sitting at 1100 calories and trying to figure out what to eat to bump myself up to 1300 calories and hit my protein range... I'm not really hungry though, having a bad night. :(

Hahaha! Svelte, I love your avatar... but as you can tell from my avatar, I also play around with the doll maker program waaaaaaaay too much. ;)

Laura, sounds like you're got a nearly foolproof health plan for the weekend -- planning out your meals for the entire time in advanced, and having nothing to do but exercise the entire time! Enjoy your trip -- take some photos and share them with us when you get back!

sounds like some good weekend plans!

We rarely do anything on the weekends, so I guess my strategy is to stay on track as much as possible and maybe not sit on my arse all weekend :) I did change my fitness tracker to incorporate cardio on saturday, so maybe that'll get me going.

My SO and I are headed to our cabin for the weekend!! Yay!! And the best strategy yet for watching my calorie intake on saturday & sunday will be to take only planned meal ingredients!! The cabin is very remote....we can either hike in, 5 miles on foot, or canoe in, (how we're going in this time)which is more like 8-10 miles....needless to say, we don't "run" to the local market while we're there!! I'll get lots of exercise too, as we're bringing in enough lumber to build the walls of our guest cabin. We've gotten really good at loading the boat to the gunnels as they say emoticon !
I'm looking forward to a weekend in the Maine woods, our 1st so far this spring.....we just had a snow storm on the 13th of April!!....but camping in Maine (and living in Maine!)is the greatest never-the-less emoticon

It's my son's third birthday on Monday, so we are having the party for family on Saturday. I'm going to make sure I get my workout in before I start madly cleaning my house, and I'm planning on either having just a wee sliver of a sliver of birthday cake, or none at all. I can usually get away with not having any if I'm busy enough with our houseguests. And I always make sure there is no cake left when everyone goes so that there isn't any to tempt me when I crash from the day!

I've very carefully planned my Saturday. In the morning I'm doing yoga with my mom, then I'm hoping to take a walk down the river with my friend to watch the kayak festival. I need to run on Saturday, too.

Sunday my bf and I have brunch with his parents. I'm going to have a lite & healthy breakfast so I don't go crazy on the bread basket. But the place we're going usually has terrible food, so I'm not too worried about overeating, lol. I might run on Sunday, but I'm definitely doing strength training.

Anybody else want to share their weekend strategy?

What are everyone's plans for the weekend? Anyone going into a situation where we can come up with some good strategies?

thought I'd pop in and see what's going on in here :) Looks like a lot of fun. I'll second that this is my favorite team. Lots of great support and a great overall attitude.

Yay!

Dreamweaver, where did you get your 25 lbs lost "trophy" for your profile pic? That is so neat!

You gals are funny!

I have to reintroduce myself - I kinda disappeared from this group after the first couple of days. I wish I hadn't!

I'm Andrea, mommy of three kids age 8, 5, and 3, and married for 9 years this month. I'm also in the 30-somethings group, 10-25 lbs to lose group, and Slim in 6 group, but this one is the looking to be the best! You're stuck with me!

(And I also love the cat picture - who picks them?!!)

YAY! Today I exceeded 1,000 Spark Points!

I need to get that "trophy" on a t-shirt or something, lol.

On yet another random note: B-flat.

Okay, that was bad! emoticon

On another random note, this is my favorite spark team! I am on three other spark teams that are all specific to my lifestyle - 30 something, Ex-Smokers, and Low Carb and I do not ejoy any of them as much as this Spark Team!
