I agree with Lorie's last post about clothing sizes changing. I remember as a girl I played dress up in a "size 8" bridesmaid dress that probably dates from the 80's (but doesn't look like it, I swear! Still very pretty). Once I reached full height and got my womanly body, I could only get the thing to zip when I was about 112 pounds and at the time 5' 1". But now I'm 5' 2.5", 149.2 pounds this morning, and I am usually a size eight in almost everything - pants, dresses, skirts. Although I have found a few pairs of size six jeans and even a size six sheath dress that fit now even though I'm still ten pounds overweight. I know the size eight I am now is not the same as that "size eight" bridesmaid dress. But whatever. I'm just happy to be back to single digits.

One more side rant. I think your overall size also has a lot to do to whether or not your fat is evenly distributed. I am lucky to have a proportionate body even though I'm overweight, while some of the other responses I read make me think that being top or bottom heavy means you have to wear a larger size than if it were evenly distributed.

I'm 5'8", 144 pounds. Generally an 8 or a 6 depending on the store.

If a store's sizing is weird and only the 10 or 12 fits, then I don't shop there. I want to wear victory skinny sizes!

I am back to size 10, but hope to get back to some 8's again after about five more pounds!

Two years later and 20 pounds back on and now 20 back off again! And I am again able to fit into size 10 and hope to wear size 8 after five more pounds!

5'4 still wearing my 12s because I refuse to buy new pants until the Fall but I have to wear a belt and they are seriously baggy. I tried on a pair of 10s the other day at the store and they fit (at 149 lbs right now). I hope to be in 8s by the time I'm ready for a Fall wardrobe.

Most of my current stuff is size 6 with a few size 4s and some size 8s. Skirts are generally 4s while pants I needed 6 or 8s (same brand at the same store!)

Hi! I'm 5'1" and 144, and my max is size 11 too, but that is for pants (I am bottom-heavy.) In dresses and tops I can go as low at a 6, but that is pushing it.

It would be such a relief if they could standardize sizes...

I am 147, 5'7" and wear a 6 in Gap, Banana, Old Navy, the Limited, etc. However, in teen places or cheaper brands, I can go as big as an 11.

I am top heavy (tummy and bust) -- so my dress size is much larger than my pants. I would say I need a size 12-14 dress.

I think that sizing is bigger than it used to be. I think the clothes manufacturers do that to make us feel better about ourselves. The difference could also be how much and what kind of exercise a person does too. I know when I slow down on the exercise, my clothes fit differently too. Lorraine

Wow, I must have a really funky body or somethnig after reading all of these posts!!
I'm 5'4", weigh 146.2 lbs, and I wear a size 13/14 pants (snuggly), but I refuse to go any bigger.
I see all of these ppl who say they're wearing 6, 8, 10, and occasionally 12, and I couldn't fit into those if my life depended on it.
I wonder why it's so different for me. I just had a baby 2 months ago, and my maternity weight (right before delivering baby) was 180. I was wearing a 15 then, and I'm wearing a 13 now after losing 33.8 pounds!! Hmmm...

It is interesting how much variation there is. I am five foot nothing and weigh around 143. I am in size 10's but they are tight. I have a lot of size 8 clothing that I would love to get back into but there is absolutely no way I can right now. At around 135 I would probably be able to do up size 8 jeans.

I agree with the last poster. Clothing sizing are so subjective to individual stores these days. Right now, I have 10's and 12's in the closet jeans-wise, but in dresses I'm normally about an 8. I don't really know what size I want to be, I just know what I want to look like. I'm thinking a comfortable 6 in jeans would be nice.

It so hard for me to pin down a size with every store coming up with their own measurement schemes these days. Also, I don't think that I have really mentally accepted my changing body. I went to a store and a woman pulled a size 4 jean from the rack for me to try on. I was shocked! Granted it didn't fit, but that she even though it was a possibility blew my mind!

I'm 5'0, 146lbs and am a solid size 8 and sometimes size 6, and even have a size 4 dress. It just really depends on the store.

My question is when do you guys start buying new clothes. Most of my clothes are really big now, but since I am still losing weight, I've hesitated to replace them yet... but they are really unflattering.

Interesting topic!

I am 5'4". I started at 175 and a size 12-14. Now, my shorts and capris are all 6s, with 1 or 2 4s and some of the 8s I still have are as baggy as the 12s were. At my last weigh-in, I was 145. I don't have a goal size. Last time I was at my goal weight, I was in juniors size 3-5, but after 4 kids, I know I will never get back to those!

Sizing is so freaking interesting to me, I had to bump this topic. I'm 5'3" and 144. In regular pant sizes, I'm a 6, but in juniors, I'm a 9. I'm a pear shape (seriously tiny torso, enormous butt, hips, thighs and arms); I've bought x-small t-shirts from Target that are only a little snug. Hoping someday I get to the point where my top half and my bottom half are a little more balanced!

Right now I'm a (tight, but not awkwardly tight) size 10. At my goal weight of 124 I should be around a size 6 - at least that's what I was last time I was that weight.

I am a size 10 - 11 at 149 pounds and my goal is 140 pounds. I remember liking my size when I wore 8 - 9 so Im not really sure I am just going to work at getting to 140 for now and see where that takes me!

I am 148 pounds now. I am mostly wearing size 10. When I get in the low 140s, I'll be a size 8. (I am 5'4") Before I had kids, when I was this weight, I was a size smaller, alas.

I'd love to be a size 4-6. But I've never been that small. When I got married I was barely fitting into size 6- for a week!

I am wearing a 10 at express. Sometimes a 12 if the cut is slimmer. Just got a J.Crew dress that is a 10 but the bust is way to tight. I bet it will fit when I hit the 130s!

oh--ok. I haven't shopped in Junior's well... since I was one probably. Which is why I probably don't remember:)

Maybe I'll check out some junior sections next time I go shopping. I just don't ever think to go there... But, who knows, maybe I'll be able to find some bargains. I love TJ Maxx:)

For my body type, I find an even bigger difference. I don't generally shop in the juniors section, but every now and then I'll see something at TJMax I want to try on. I'm a 6 but in juniors seem to need a 9 or 11. I think it's because I have big hips/thighs and juniors are generally made for that less curvy teenage body.

Odd numbered sizes are usually Juniors sizes...They sell odd numbers (only, like 1, 3, 5, 7, etc) at stores like Hollister,PacSun, Kohl's etc. They aren't in between sizes, and they generally run a little smaller since they're for "juniors." For example, I'm a size 6, but a size 7 in juniors.

I have a question... where do people actually find the following sizes: 5,7,9,11? Seriously. I am not trying to be a bitca. I have never seen clothes in odd sizes. Unless the clothing company uses European sizes and it is a 31 or something. Technically, right now, I am probably a size 9 (if it exists, but I think it is like Unicorns... everyone has heard of them, but nobody has actually seen them). My 10's are a bit loose--well most of them are, depending on the cut, but my 8's definitely too tight.

ok--so if someone can tell me where you find these odd number sized clothes, I'd appreciate it!

I'd like to be between 5-7
Now I'm 9-11, some 7 & 8's fit me fine, for instance in Levi's I fit nicely into some 7's depending on the cut & 9 in other cuts. In tops I fit anywhere from s-xl, so confusing, I really must try on any clothes before buying them

I do not have a goal size. I have dropped down in jean sizes at a really fast rate. In June, I was having trouble buttoning my size fourteen jeans. Now I am wearing size four jeans (they're stretch, though so maybe I am a size six?)

I suspect that I will drop at least one more jean size as I pull into my goal weight.

I am almost five feet one inch tall with 141 pounds.

Someone commented how we should not wear Juniors sizes, but I actually like them a lot. I don't like the way womens size clothes fits and feels, IDK. But I am wearing a size 11 at 148-149lbs. Also I think ladies it depends on your body type, frame, and where you are carrying a lot of your weight.

I think with clothing size it also depends on who makes the clothes! Sometimes I go into a junior type store and I'd be lucky to fit into their size 7's! Then I go into the gap or a higher make type and the clothes fit perfectly!!!! I have always been in the size 6,7,8! Now that I've had kids, my tops are more larger! It doesn't seem like my chest is going anywhere, but maybe it will, I hope! Another thing too, is if clothes are stretchy! I know I could fit into about any size if the clothes were stretchy enough, but then they probably would wear out sooner, jeans wise that is.

The weird thing is, though, I've seen at least two different women, about 60 lbs. heavier than myself (I don't know their heights)... they both said they tried on junior's pants and they are size 11's. I am a size 11 in juniors! How can someone who is 190 lbs. be fitting in the same size as someone who is 136 lbs.? I must be doing something wrong. Or shopping in the wrong stores!

Oh yes... if you are curious, I like to shop in Target. If I go to the mall, I like Heritage 1981 and Old Navy.

Size 6/8 bottoms and medium tops. Ultimately, I would like to get down to a size 4, but at this point I am just happy to be in a size 6.

Don't feel ashamed. Read through this list and see what a wide variety of sizes people are in and we all weigh about the same.

I now wear a size 14 (since March), but hopefully when I get back to 140 ville legally, I will wear a size 12 again! (I have way too many size 12's I can't wear now). I also wear a large in tops, hope to get that back down to mediums as well!

Hopefully by August! or maybe faster.

size 10
I see that is a big size compared to others around here but I prefer it the size 16 I used to fit.
Probably I should get to a size 8 when I reach my idealweight.

I'm the *big* girl here! I'm comfortably in a 10 pants/jeans. I just got rid of all my 16's. I still keep a pair of my size 26 jeans just for reminders.

Depends also on body shape. I am a true pear shape with no chest, so I carry more weight on my bottom half than my top compared to an apple that might have small pants but larger top. Frame size matters also. And how much of yoru body is muscle tone (think of how people can lose inches but not weight on the scale).

Another note, odd numbered pants sizes are designed for teens so can fit differently. I wear a 4 or 6 in womens pants, but when I sneak into the Juniors section to look for jeans, I'm more like a 9.

I'd like to be in 4's or 5's... hey, how come people who are the same height and weight as me are in such smaller sizes??? I've noticed that other places as well. Not fair. Oh yes, I'm about a 10/11 now.

I am currently wearing 10's and 12's but I swim in the 12's and the 10s are now baggy on me. I am only 5'5" and carry weight in my hips. I can finally wear a 9/10 that I bought a few months ago (my motivation jeans) so maybe that is my new size. I will go shopping soon to find out.

I'm in a size 8 very comfortably, size 6 for petites much of the time. I want to be an easy 4 in everything and Junior 5 or 7- although I rarely wear juniors clothes, why do they make them so LONG?!

4/6 (sort of in between)
I can fit into my Express jeans which are a size 4 and still breath but my size 4 j. crew khakis are still a bit snug. I think I'm a few pounds away from being a true 4--being in between is annoying because none of my clothes fit quite right (too baggy or too tight).

I wear a size 8 some days and a size 6 other days. I would love to get down to a size 2 or 4, but we'll see. For now I am just glad that I am in single digit pant/skirt sizes. emoticon

I wear size 8 or 10 now a days!
My thighs are big...so pants are annoying. If they fit my legs they are too big in the waist so I need belts. If I get ones to fit my waist my legs are trying to bust out of them. Oy! So I have to go for wide leg or relaxed fit. I'm so excited about my clothes lately. I hope to get to a size 6 and I will be unbelievable happy.

I'm a size 8 in American Eagle jeans. A 10 in another different pair and a 9 in another pair of jeans.

I don't care what size I end up at - as long as I fit and healthy looking. I'm thinking it will be around a 6.

Went through my closet yesterday and made a donation pile of all clothing that is now too large. I figured if I held on to them I was subconsciously telling myself it was okay to gain the weight back. Well, it's not!! I am at 144.5 this morning and wearing 6 and 8 in pants (got rid of all the 10s and 12s). Tops are still M and L (used to be only L and occasionally an XL). Making room for those Size 4s I'll be buying soon!

I guys. I am barely in 140ville. Gotta be careful or I'll have to take a trip back. Anyways I am 5'7" at 149. I wear 8/10's. My 8's fit after I "stretch them out(you know what I am talking about lol) But my 10's will be falling off me by the end of the day. Just need to hurry this weight loss thing up so I won't be in between sizes.
