I was really interested in learning how to.. because when I read the ingredients list..I realized it is very similar to making maynaise. Have you ever made that? Really both are very simple, or to me.. I guess that depends on what you are used to. For me, I am used to living on homemade bread.. or I was until recent dietary changes. Nonetheless, I still make it for others in my home. So I collected some recipes off the internet, and chose a few to try. Then I settled on a favorite. It is a matter of warming water in one bowl, oil in another and then mixing the two carefully by the directions (eg. in a fine stream) in a blender, adding essential oil for fragrance and cooling overnight. It is your preference as to oils. I use a combo of coconut oil and olive oil. :)

Wow, where did you learn how to do your own lotion? I wish I can do my own as my skin can't just use any kind of products but then, maybe I shouldn't dabble to make my own products as I don't have the patience :(

I have been making my lotion... very simple ingredients list.. plus favorite essential oils, for about a year now. I have been disliking the lotions at the store due to very high water content. So, I found a ratio of oil to water that I have been very happy with. :)

Currently I'm using Origins Dr Weil's treatment lotion for normal condition and Bobbi Brown Hydrating Cream for drier situation. I have to be very picky with my products as my skin is too sensitive and not the get-redness sensitivity but hard-to-adapt-to-any-products sensitivity. I much prefer the over the counter as they are cheaper but I always end up getting too dry or too oily/acne-prone face so in the end, I have to be very, very careful with my selection.

No big over the counter moisturing cream. I'm found body lotions of any kind work as long as
you stay consistent. I've used lotions for 34 years and still get told I don't look my age.

I use St Ives Timeless Skin. It's got collagen, it does not clog pores, and best of all, it's very inexpensive. I live in a very dry climate so I love moisturizers.

Another good one that I use all over, including my face, is Avalon Organics COQ10 ultimate firming body lotion. I love that it's natural and doesn't contain any synthetic fragrances (and yet it smells really nice) or parabens.

While I have no doubt that department store salespeople know some things about skin, I also think it's possible to get comparable results without spending a fortune. Good luck and let us know what you end up choosing. Sometimes you have to try a few things until you find what works best for you, and there are some great suggestions from everyone here, including many low-cost options that work really well. :)

Hi everyone...I'm new to this group as of a couple seconds ago! Great topic! I use Lancome...and love it. I've used Oil of Olay too, I love their sunscreen. I always use Lancome now though, which for me, is so much better for my skin. It is expensive, however I'm paying the price for my sun bunny days! emoticon

Hi Everyone,

Well, finally I went to a local dept. store and had them help me with my make-up. She recommended Lancome and I love it!!!! It actually stayed on my face, didn't slide off and looks great! It's expensive, but since I don't wear make-up often, it's worth it for me and will last quite some time. Much better than wasting my money on products that end up in the trash. I spent a fortune this past year, only to throw it out.

The only thing is, she put moisturizer on my face (2 kinds). One for all over and one for under my eyes, than she proceeded with these serums----2 of them as well.

They made my face feel and look great, but I can't afford all that----with the make-up, concealer, moisturizers and serums, it would cost over $300! I don't have that kind of money. The make-up and concealer are $70 and like I said, I don't mind paying that, but I can't afford the rest.

If I just got the make-up, concealer and 2 moist. it would still be $197, so that's out of the question, as well.

So I would like to know from you all.

What would you all recommend? What do you use?

My skin type is oily/normal, but oily for the most part.

"Thank You" in advance for all you help. Also, for recommending me to go to a Dept. store. I never would have thought of that, I didn't realize that they knew so much.

Ax
