I use extra virgin coconut oil to do a hair oil treatment for 30 min. once/week & I also use a bit of it to take eye makeup off & to moisturize my face. I have baby fine hair and I've noticed that the hair treatments have made my hair feel thicker. It also makes it shiny!

I was at a spa party this weekend. The prices were enormous. So I looked over the products and figured out ways I could recreate them at home.
Hand scrub
Lavender essential oil, olive oil, epsom salt, scrub hands together leaves them feeling soft. Apply moisturizer on after.
Face exfoliator
2 scoops powdered goats milk, sugar (white or brown), olive oil (a little or as needed), lavender essential oil and a little water..not to much.
apply to face in circles and wipe or wash off in shower. Sugar can dissolve over time. So I toss in some ground nuts. Refrigerate
Foot scrub
Epsom salt and lavender essential oil. Apply on in shower. Leaves feet feeling good. Moisturize after.
Facial cleanser
Bottle of witch hazel. Sounds weird but is natural and works good. Refines pores and cleanses. Witch hazel doesn't smell great so I drop in my favorite essential oil and apply. Lavender oil is the best because it's good for sensitive skin, relaxing and regenerates skin cells.
I took a course in aromatherapy during massage school. Where I learned some of this information.

I no longer use shampoo OR conditioner....and my hair is softer, shinier and healthier than ever! Shampoos are FILLED with chemicals that strip and dry the hair. I "clean" my hair with a mixture of 1 Tbsp Baking soda with 1 cup water (this lasts about a week.) And I "condition" with the same mixture of apple cider vinegar. Sounds gross, but give it a try! It's gievn me AMAZING results! You can search for info online by doing a search for "No Poo." (No shampoo...)
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." 2 Cor 5:17
I am trying a new body scrub recipe to reduce cellulite and get the skin to shrink back according to new weight. It is ultra-easy: Mix used coffee-grounds, vaseline and sea-salt: the one with bigger crystals. It will give you kind of a paste which you apply in circular motions under the shower.
Feel free to join me on this experiment..

Use a facewash of your choosing: follow this with a light coating of vinegar (white or cider). The vinegar kills bacteria, preventing blemishes. Doesn't smell the greatest, so follow up with a nice smelling facial lotion. Works like magic to prevent blemishes!

I agree about makeyourowncosmetics.com!! So many fun, easy, and good-for-the-body recipes there!! My homemade secret is homemade soap! We make what's called "hot-process" soap from scratch, which is a sped-up version of cold-process soap making (you use a crock pot to speed up the saponification/curing processes). There are so many fantastic soap "recipes" and various oils and butters to use to suit your own skin's needs. :)

A rinse of half peroxide and half water is a great teeth whitener...in fact, that's the main ingredient in all whiteners. It's cheap and it works. Ajax is toxic..please don't put that in your person!

Back in the day before whitening strips were invented my girlfriend and I used to gently brush our teeth about once a week with Ajax. With the economy like it is I'm about desparate enough to try it again!

sugar mixed with a little water makes a wonderful hand cleanser and exfoliant - you will have baby soft hands afterwards !
If you slather your feet with thicke cream and slip on some cotton socks and go to bed that way, you feet will be softer and the heels less cracked by morning - this is essential for me as I walk anywhere from 8-22 miles daily and my feet take such a beating !

A great homemade scrub is simply sea salt added to olive oil and applied in circular motions onto the skin. But this is not ideal for face but great for the rest of the body.
This is also a great method of reducing the appearance of stretch marks.

half a pack of hard yeast.(i dont know how u call it in the u.s) squeeze half a lemon on top it makes your skin soft and beautiful and you smell like a cake (without the calories) all day long!
another tip: after removing facial hair with hot wax nothing gets the redness away like honey (even better than alovera.

I like mixing honey and oatmeal and using it as a mask. Also, great tip for your skin. Get a sock. Put oats in it, tie it off. Take a bath and rub it all over your skin and leave it in the water. Afterward, wash as normal. But this really makes your skin soft. I ALWAYS get complements on how soft my skin is.

Your hands and feet show your age first so be sure and use gloves if you hand wash dishes, use lotion everywhere, and pumice your feet often. Pamper yourself.
After washing your hair and face, rinse with cool water to close the pores for shiny hair and small pores.

I make fragrance and massage oils by mixing almond oil with a few drops of an essential oil I like or a mixture, you can get idea by searching the net for ones that go well together. I like peppermint for massage, for fragrance I like citrus, different flowers. The oils can also be added by the drop to a burning candle, the add a special feel to relax or invigorate you. I like patchouli, lemon. If you still us round light bulbs you can add a drop on top of a warm light bulb. Hugs, Celia

One of the cheapest and most common sense secrets:
spray bottle with water before applying anything. It does a body real good both in and out!
nuff said! :)
I bought a rose water skin tonic for this reason and now I just refill the bottle with fresh water.
Gaea, I love anything vitamin E. My Vitamin Shoppe rocks with good inexpensive products like this.
Have a great afternoon/evening gorgeous ones!

When my face is especially dry and I'm using a liquid foundation I break open a vit E into my palm and mix with foundation for a more nourishing makeup.
Usually I like the foundation in a compact I put on after moisturizing with any lotion that doesn't give me a rash, I add a little tea tree oil, vit. E, rosemary for youth, olive oil, shea butter, cocoa butter.
If anyone has a recipe to make cream or lotion totally from scratch, please share.
