I live in an area of year-round airborne pollutants and allergens. Several years ago, my DH had the allergy tests done, as he was constantly fighting one symptom after another, sinusitis, etc.

The doctor was so embarrassed about having to tell my DH that he did not test positive for even one allergen! So, we both take a near daily dose of Loratidine and muddle through the seasonal barrage.

Oh, well!

I too mostly want to know if I will feel any better. Most days I am worn out by 4pm. I also feel bloated a lot. I have a friend doing gluten free and swears she feels so much better. I am hoping that in feeling better I will be able to work better and exercise more - the result weight loss. I have allergies to many things dust, mold all trees cats dogs smoke grass most plants etc. Can't afford the food allergy test but I am willing to try this way and if I have a sensitivity to gluten.

I'm just interested in seeing whether or not going gluten-free will make a difference in how I feel, not for any weight loss concerns. Like others here, I read labels and try to avoid processed, enriched, refined and bleached products and buy organic when it makes most sense for me (the produce I consume the most). I don't think I'll go 100% gluten-free, though; will have to see how things go. I just like the fact that we can find so many products, nowadays.

While it's not a choice for some, my SIL fits this category, it could simply mean making more healthful choices for the rest of us.

My mom, who now lives with us, is finding this an "experience," as she keeps looking for white rice and such in my house (nowhere to be found, lol!).

Interesting thread. Are you all talking about gluten-free as a strategy for weight loss? I'm only familiar with it as an option for people who have celiac disease or a wheat allergy. My partner fits into this second category, so she's 100% gluten free and I'm probably about 70%, just so we can eat the same meals at home.

The tricky thing with gluten is that most processed food has it unless specifically labeled otherwise. But with a focus on starting from scratch, it's relatively easy to do. We eat a whole lot of rice and corn as our grains, but quinoa, amaranth, and millet are also options.

Right now, I'm trying to find a gluten free binder for patties and loaves (crab cakes, meat loaf, etc.) that can substitute for bread crumbs. Any ideas?

I'm Sue, and I won't let fear hold me back.

I don't know if I will ever go 100% either - being part Italian I love pasta, pizza and bread but I have had some decent pasta. I found some bread yesterday. I will say it is OK but maybe if I don't like it so much I will lose some weight LOL. Is Coco your dog?

I am not sure that I can go 100% gluten free, but I am making an effort. I read all labels and check out what I am eating. I will say that I have my little Coco on a gluten free diet. Hopefully it will make a different in her lifespand

Keep on track

Same here, trying, but not 100%. So, it's impossible to tell, right now, if there's a difference in how I feel.

I CAN say, however, that some gluten-free products don't taste quite as good as their counterparts. For example, I had a Pamela's Chocolate Chip Walnut cookie, wheat/gluten/dairy-free. While it was alright, it wasn't great.

On the other hand, the other day, I had Boulder's gluten free rice & adzuki bean snack chips with natural salt and these are now my new favorite chips! Even people at work liked them.

I tried some dried pasta, too, but didn't save the box. With fresh pesto, the pasta was fine.

Let's keep an ongoing "food review" here, as I'm trying to see if going gluten-free will help with some weight and health issues.

I've been trying Gluten free for the last week but not 100%. I've seen a few other people mention it. What benefits/disadvantages do you find.
