When I could eat mangoes (I'm allergic now, blisters on your lips just aren't worth the succulence), I'd slice the cheeks off, then criss cross slices, turn the skin out and make a "hedgehog". Then you can either eat them right off the skin, or slice under them with a paring knife. Sigh, I miss mangoes.

I have seen the mangoe splitter at Bed Bath and Beyond. I just could not justify the cost as I usually do it the old fashion way. Plus, I am streamlining my kitchen and elimating the items that I do not use

Keep on track

I stand my mango on its side and cut down right along side of the seed on both sides till I have 2 halves in my hand.. I then slip my thumb between the meat and the skin and work it all the way around and the fruit plops out in one piece..less skin. I eat a lot of mangos and had not heard of the gadget either

I have started back here in Feb 2012 after putting some weight back on. I lost 114lbs here previously and I now know I need this community and the food tracker to keep me in check.

I just love my co-op! I get two huge baskets of fruits and vegetables for just $15 and that usually lasts me nearly 2 weeks.

Go to: http://www.localharvest.org/ to find something similar near you.

Here is another great site to find places to actually go pick your own produce: www.pickyourown.org

It's blueberry picking time! :-)

That's a really cool idea about the fruit baskets, I may look into that in my town :)

HI, Tara:

Welcome to our team!

My mom thinks I have just about every kitchen gadget in the universe, but I still cut a mango by hand. To be honest - I've been seriously considering a mango cutter!

Getting a basket from the co-op sounds so wonderful, how lucky you are!

Thanks, I'll do that! :-) Something to cut pineapple would be really helpful too. I get these fruit/veggie baskets every couple of weeks and it's always a surprise as to what kind of things you get. :-)

No problem! Check out like Williamssonoma.com or even check like Bed, Bath and Beyond, they have every kitchen gadget imaginable and there is a gadget for every fruit you can think of- Pineapples, cherries, everything. It's great!

There's actually something called a mango splitter out there?! Wow, that just shows you how little I know about kitchen gadgets. :-) LOL! Thanks for the great tip!!

Get the mango splitter. It will take out the core for you, and then you can cube the mango while it's still attached to the skin, and kind of peel the cubes off. It's hard to explain without actually showing the the mango splitter has all the directions on it.

Hi all! I'm new here and I have a question about mangoes. :-) It sounds silly, but does anyone have a quick method of peeling these tasty treats?

I just got a big basket of fruit from my bi-weekly co-op and I have 5 mangoes on my hands. I love mango, but my attempts at taking of the skin leaves me with little fruit after it's all said and done. Any tips?

Thanks! emoticon
