Actually...

I had a sandwich made with Ezekiel bread yesterday with avocado, cucumbers, red onion, alfalfa sprouts & a homemade veggie patty!

Yummy-Yummy!

Speaking of sprouted items, have you tried sprouted bread? There are a few varieties around, like Ezekial 4:9 (4 to 9), made of sprouts instead of flour. I so rarely eat white bread, anymore (garlic bread at last night's team pasta party was one rare occasion), opting for whole grain/whole wheat, and love the nutty texture and taste of sprouted bread. My Darling Groom makes great sourdough bread, but I've even found sprouted sourdough.

I know this might sound weird but sprouted items have an increased protein amount (compared to their unsprouted counterpart) while being full of vitamins & minerals. You may be surprised to know that you can sprout beans...give it a try and see whatcha think!

BTW, EFA (essential fatty acids) actually help our body metabolise fats properly so try to avoid unhealthy fat while not abandoning the healthy fats found in fish, moderate portions of raw nuts & seeds & limited amounts of avocado (just to name a few).

I have actually dropped weight after a stagnant period of plateau since incorporating these items back into my diet.

Thank you! I love the whey protein idea!
The little roll ups with Cream cheese is a good idea too ...

I am insulin resistant so I try to make my diet heavier in protein to help my body process carbs -- yummy snacks are:
almonds -- very heart healthy
protein bars -- I love the Pure Protein Chocolate Delux (omg-- just like eating a rich brownie)
We also do Whey protein shakes -- I put the mix in my coffee instead of creamer that makes my coffee taste like a mocha or french vanilla and is 26g of protein (Body Fortress one scoop)
You can also make ham and cream cheese roll ups - take one piece of boiled ham with a tbls of cream cheese and the green end of a green onion -- roll up and enjoy -- these can be made ahead and put in plastic containers in your fridge....hope this helps emoticon

This year is for real!! No more false promises....no more excuses.....

haha - I drown cheese, too! One of my favorite snacks is spinach dip (low fat, of course) with ultra light tortilla chips. My mom keeps bringing some over with her favorite veggie chips - but those are higher in fat than my tortilla chips, go figure! Wrapping spinach around a baby carrot just doesn't cut it, hahaha!

Cottage cheese - gotta get on that kick!
Beef Jerky? Never thought of that before? I love that stuff! Love edamame too ... should start stocking it in the fridge.
Thanks for the list :)
I've been eating a lot of fruit lately and I think that might be what is throwing it off balance. I LOVE cheese and in the past couple of months it's been a huge part of my diet ... think that's where the problem started. Even though it's lowfat I was putting it on everything cause it makes everything taste better! haha

How about:

hummus
cottage cheese (low fat)
beef jerky
protein bars
edamame
sliced turkey w/ low fat cheese sticks
organic peanut butter
a hard-boiled egg

What are you snacking on now?

The most important thing is to create a good balance of protein, carbs and good fats. Hope this helps.

I know that ... I'm not eliminating fat I'm trying to find ways to add protein without adding fat. I'm high on carbs, just right on fat, and low on protein. I know beans are high in protein and I add them to everything I can but I want suggestions on snacks that are high in protein/low in fat. emoticon

PS: I like the idea of Beans and Salsa - I bet if you put it in a food processor it would make a great dip for celery and stuff!! Thanks!!

I know it's not really a snack food, but most beans have around 15 grams of protein and 1 gram of fat per cup. A small bowl of beans with a little salsa...yum.

I noticed that I have started to go a little high on my carbs and low on my protein and figured out it's because I'm avoiding fat.

What do you guys snack on that is high in protein and low in fat? emoticon
